Overview

Our take on the Infinity Reference REF-6522EX

There's a reason why our customers choose to upgrade with Infinity, year after year, car after car. The Reference Series REF-6522EX 6-1/2" speakers exemplify Infinity's mission of providing excellent sound at a competitive price. A textile dome tweeter makes your music's high frequencies clearer and smoother than ever.

2-way excellence

There's a reason why our customers choose to upgrade with Infinity, year after year, car after car. The Reference Series REF-6522EX 6-1/2" speakers exemplify Infinity's mission of providing excellent sound at a competitive price. A textile dome tweeter makes your music's high frequencies clearer and smoother than ever.

Bring on the lows

Infinity maximizes low-frequency performance with its unique Plus One+ woofer design, which.gives this speaker a significantly larger cone than speakers of similar size. Infinity employs a tough polypropylene woofer and durable hi-roll rubber surround that deliver, time and time again, in spite of the harsh conditions life in a car door entails.

Primed for power

These speakers will really blossom when powered by an external amplifier, but they're also sensitive enough to be a good match for a factory or aftermarket stereo. Plus, Infinity comes up with a safe way to get a little more power out of your system — these 3-ohm speakers combine with the speaker wire in your car so your car stereo sees actual 4-ohm impedance. Grilles are included.

Product Highlights:

  • 6-1/2" 2-way car speakers
  • Plus One+ polypropylene woofer cone with hi-roll rubber surround

So far so good. These dropped right in the back doors of my 2015 Nissan Frontier. Nice clear sound with solid bass. Not heavy on the bass but it's there. I do wish I would have gone with the ix model as I feel they would have fit without much fuss and provided a little more bass.

These speakers offer exceptional mids and highs and will be a great addition with a subwoofer. If looking just to replace speakers without adding a sub, look for something that has a little more bass.

Pros: Great mids and highs. Easy to install.

Cons: Not much bass

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I wasn't expecting to have to cut my door. The gent on the chat line literally put these in my cart so I went with them. I did try to tell him that the stock speakers weren't round and asked about something that fit the stock hole. I'm not against a little cutting, but it did lengthen the project a bit. They do sound pretty good though. I need to install an amp now I think.

Pros: They sound nice.

Cons: They didn't fit my truck like I tried to tell the guy on the chat. I did have to cut my door, but they're in now.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great sound on my aftermarket head unit with no additional amps or subs. I was looking for a simple inexpensive upgrade for my 2009 Rav4 and these worked out great. Huge improvement over the stock equipment! The lows obviously can't compete with a system that includes a sub or two, but I can't imagine getting much more sound out of a 6.5 inch speaker on 22 watts RMS. Compared to the original speakers, these have great bass. Would definitely buy again!

Pros: Great mids and highs Good bass Nice quality

Cons: Wish I would have upgraded to these years ago...

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Ordered based off of excellent reviews and they were back ordered, glad i ordered because they far exceeded my expectations. Speakers have clear highs and wonderful mids and lows are surprisingly punchy. I installed them in a 2016 Ford Transit i Drive for work and they really have improved the drive, only issue i had was i had to get a proper seal of speaker to door metal to get lows to sound punchy.

Pros: Best speakers at this Pricepoint PERIOD

Cons: Make sure speakers are sealed to door metal for better Lows

I wish I bought these before I bought my kicker speakers for my other vehicles. Infinity definitely has my attention and has gained a happy customer!!!!

Pros: Great sound through lows, mids, highs!!!

Cons: Customers don't know about these speakers from the beginning

Definitely an upgrade from factory! The speakers look so nice that I hate to have them hidden behind a door panel. I can hear more instrumentals and voice that weren't pronounced before, and I'd imagine if I tweaked the equilizer more, they'd have my little prius rocking that much better!

Pros: Attention to detail, sound, and quality.

Cons: The kit supplied may not hold the speakers in tight for long.

2015 Ram 1500

Fits front doors of 2015 Ram 1500 Quad Cab perfectly. Removed Kicker DSC650's I put in a few months ago to replace factory speakers. Wasnt 100 % pleased with the Kickers after listening for a while. I had also heard the Polks that claim to fit and did not like them. Initially they were a bit improvement, I just needed better overall sound quality. These perform way better than I expected , Adam at Crutchfield was very helpful. he said there may be a fit issue thats with these are not on the list of speakers that fit in the Ram 1500. But they went in without a problem. **Crutchfield should add these to the list so people with the same truck as mine have them to choose from. Fantastic sounding speaker in every way

Pros: Great quailty sound, fuller and harder hitting bass than expected. Fantastic mid range and smooth highs. Just a A+ speaker all around.

Cons: none so far

If you're looking to replace stock speakers and not break the bank, these are worth every penny. I have an aftermarket stereo, so I am sure my sound quality is slightly enhanced by these as well. I recommend doing the rear speakers as well because that's when the sound quality came around. Kudos to max for responding quickly to my text message and providing the items in a shopping cart for me. Such an easy transaction and superior customer service!

Cons: Prongs for wire harness are weak and bend easily.

I replace my Honda Accord 2017 SE manufacturing speakers only with this and kept the head unit. The sound improvement is exceptional. The sound is clear and crisp. I also added an Infinity basslink and that just made the sound unbelievable good. Got an estimate for professional to install and I was told that it will cost about $2000 but did it only cost me under $300 to do it by myself with the help and support from the awesome Crutchfield customer/technical support. The installation instruction is 100% perfect, not too detail just contains perfect enough information. One of the minor issues I had was locating the center screw from the back sit.

A step or two above the factory speakers

Steve from Corvallis, OR on 9/11/2017

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I do not have a high powered audio system in my vehicle, but I purchased these to upgrade my sound and knew that my 12 year old originals were probably rotting away. I was surprised that these speakers didn't sound as good as I expected. They are definitely a step up from the OEMs, but the difference is not big. These speakers do not handle low bass well, so you need to apply a HPF (high pass filter) if you have one in your Audio head. Rolling off the low bass on these speakers really cleans them off. I will need a small sub to fill in what I removed from the sound.

Pros: Polypropelene speaker cones, coaxial, internal crossover. Sound noticably better than the original speakers.

Cons: These speakers muddy up with low bass. I have to use a HPF to drop off the low bass, which cleans up the sound considerably. A small sub woofer will fill in what has been cut from these speakers.

The 2-way reference speakers fit easily in my Honda Civic back behind the rear seat, but the sound using my factory Honda radio is not remarkable. The component version out-performs the 2-way speakers by a fairly significant margin. So these are good but not great with a factory radio and no amp.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I really like these speakers, but, i need to play around with the settings on my headunit to get the sound just right. I listen to a lot of metal, and these guys are great for the highs, the lows seem to be lacking. They are claimed to not fit in my 93 Landcruiser, but using the 6 3/4 adapters i was able to space them out from the door just enough to get them to fit. My application requires shallow mount speakers, so choices were limited. I may end up needing to get a small sub, though I haven't decided yet. all in all these are a great product and i'm very happy with my purchase.

Pros: looks, fitment, quality, highs

Cons: lacking lows.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

In terms of acoustic quality, slim fit for my 2014 Mazda2 Sport, and 3 ohm impedance, this speakers earns 5 stars. I only gave it 4 stars in part because of the price and because I initially thought it had tweeters that could be redirected like the REF-6533ix. Nevertheless, no regrets as an upgrade from the essentially new OEM 6.5" woofer/whizzer rated at 4 ohm while keeping my OEM head unit. The rose gold finish on the tweeters is a nice touch.

Pros: 3 ohm efficiency on OEM head unit Slim fit for subcompact door Excellent sound

Cons: Price compared to 4 ohm 6.5" 2-way Tweeter is fixed; cannot be directed up

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I installed (2) of these in the front doors of my 06 tundra, using the factory head unit. They were recommended by Crutchfields online support. I had previously chosen some speakers that were half the price. I wish I had purchased the cheaper speakers. These are nothing special. Perhaps their qualities would be more apparent with a higher powered system. But for a factory system save your money. Also the speaker mount adapters sent by crutchfield do not match the holes on an 06 tundra double cab. I had to drill my own holes.

Pros: None

Cons: High price, not noteworthy quality

Features

Plus One+ Woofer Cones: Each speaker uses a cone significantly larger than other speakers of the same size. This is accomplished by using a unique basket design and hi-roll surround. The Plus One+ design offers greater bass output and an increase in efficiency.

High-Output Design: The 3Ω voice coil design compensates for the high in-line resistance of small gauge factory wiring, extracting more power from factory (or aftermarket) receivers. This results in clearer, richer sound for the listener.

Mounting: Without an adapter, the 6522ix speakers fit standard 6-3/4" applications. Given their required cutout, they will also fit 6-1/2" applications without an adapter, but new screw holes must be drilled. Using the included adapter brackets they can be mounted in a variety of 6-1/2" and 6-3/4" applications, without any modification.

We found the speaker's mounting height requirement to be too tall to fit under the available clearance of the factory speaker grills. [ Ryan  Dec 21, 2017 ]  Staff
Well it depends if you have the upgraded infinity system in the RAM, if it is the basic non amplified infinity system in your truck, then the reference should be better than what you had, but if you power the reference speakers just from your radio, they may not appear to be as good as the ones that died in your truck, if you pair the reference with a nice little amplifier, something say around 50-75 watts you should be fine, I have a set that are two years old and i had them powered by a 75 w and had to dial the amp a bit back as it was a bit too much for them. If you have the cash to spend and can afford it, refitting your truck with the Infinity Kappa series and an amp powerful enough to push those speakers would be a definite upgrade over the infinities in your truck. I hope this helps a bit, I have Infinity Kappa Perfects in my jeep and they are amazing, but those are really expensive. [ Slurge  Nov 25, 2017 ]
Are They are the same company that makes the speakers? Yes. But as to the exact and model that was in your truck I've no idea. I can say that my infinity car had the bose speakers in it and the infinity speakers i repllaced them with sounded better. If that helps you any! [ James  Nov 24, 2017 ]
That's crazy I'm having the same issue, check the wires connected to your stereo [ Richard  Nov 24, 2017 ]
it just goes into the system, pretty straight forward to get it plugged in. the hardest part about the level controller is finding a spot in your door to put the device in. once i found the spot for it, and figured out the best way to wire it, it was pretty straight forward.
