Larger woofer for more bass

The REF-9603ix appeals to bassheads too, with tough polypropylene woofers and durable hi-roll rubber surrounds that deliver strong low-frequency performance. Each Plus One+ woofer sports a significantly larger cone than speakers of similar size, adding plenty of punch to the speaker's smooth and accurate highs.

Great for any power supply

You can power these speakers with up to 100 watts of RMS power — they'll work great with an external amplifier, but they're also sensitive enough to be a good match for a factory or aftermarket stereo. Plus, Infinity comes up with a safe way to get a little more power out of your system — these 3-ohm speakers combine with the speaker wire in your car so your car stereo sees actual 4-ohm impedance. Grilles are included along with Infinity logo badges that can be attached to your factory grilles.

Product Highlights:

  • 6"x9" 3-way speakers (pair)
  • Plus One+ polypropylene woofer cone with hi-roll rubber surround

I have had 2 pairs of these speakers. The first pair sounded great until the capacitor on the tweeter and midrange actually exploded. I returned that pair and got another pair. Within 2 weeks of install, the tweeter/midrange began to sound blown (static/scratchy sound). I replaced them with Alpine that time and haven't had a problem. I love Infinity but I think there is a problem with the True 4 Ohm setup these speakers have (they are 3 Ohm speakers that are supposed to make up the extra ohm in the speaker wire for a true 4 ohms). I was running a Kenwood amp to them in bridged mode to produce 150 watts to each speaker. Haven't had a problem with the Alpines running off the same amp setup. Hate to have to give Infinity a bad review but these speakers have a problem.

Cons: Tweeter/midrange issues

Great speakers! Great price!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I'm not an audiophile but it was easy to hear a remarkable difference in the music I listen to after installing these speakers. The stock speakers were not damaged and were actually working pretty well at the time of install. I chose these speakers when I decided to upgrade because of my satisfaction with previous infinity speakers and they were on sale. I also liked the fact that they were identified as a speaker that would not require an amplifier due to their increased sensitivity. After the new speakers were installed it was like going from SD to HD.

Pros: Full dynamic sound

Cons: None

great speakers. Sound is fabulous. Very impressive base, mid range and high end sound.

Pros: awesome sound

Cons: needed a little altering to fit. My car did not come with standard sized speakers. I thought the speakers came with a schoshe kit to fit.

Outstanding Speakers

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Even though the site said these speakers would not fit, they went in just fine. The sound quality of these speakers are night and night and day better than the so call "premium Alpine System that came with the car. Clarity and proper bass is what these speakers bought to my Dodge Charger. This was money well spent for sure. Also a special thanks to my product advisor from Crutchfield for all of his help. If you are looking for some proper 6x9 speakers don't hesitate to buy these.

Pros: Solid build, huge magnet, great tweeter. Speaker just reeks high quality.

Cons: Not really a con but, these speakers will fit in a 2014 Dodge Charger!

Excellent speakers

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I always use these in any upgrade. Tried other brands and they have sounded more muddy. These have the best crisp highs and mids I have heard for any speaker without going to separate components. No need to with these. They are weak on bass but I have always felt that acoustics have been to blame.

Pros: Crisp highs

Cons: Weak bass

Excellent Speakers

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I ordered the Infinity Reference 9603ix three way speakers for my 2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse, and they blew my mind. I previously had the Infinity factory speakers located in the rear panel of my car, which began to deteriorate, as they were made out of treated paper. Although they still seemed to match up to most car systems, the tweeters were not doing their job, often making shrill and distorted noises that I could notice as I drove, and the woofers were kind of beat up after ten years of use. So I decided to invest in the same brand, and I am so GLAD I did. These speakers are made EXTREMELY well. The tweeter on these things is one of the clearest i have ever heard on any 2 or 3 way speaker, despite the fact that the high-quality rubber can produce large quantities of bass. If you want to hear all of your highs, I suggest buying these, as the super tweeter also adds significant difference to what you can hear, adding approximately 4 dBs of high frequency to your music. The bass fills my car's small cabin with immensely low tones, and SHAKES EVERYTHING. I LOVE IT! There is no doubt in my mind that these speakers are easily one of the highest quality, yet reasonably priced 6X9 speakers you will find. If you like bass more so than highs, buy the two ways. But if you want bass, but hate to sacrifice crystal clear highs, BUY THESE. They have everything someone could want, AND MORE! Thank you Infinity and Crutchfield, once again with outstanding service.

Pros: Easy Installation Tweeters are unmatched Bass is very full, due to rubber Very high quality, well manufactured Priced well for what you get NO DISTORTION.

Product Research

Plus One+ Woofer Cones: Each speaker uses a cone significantly larger than other speakers of the same size. This is accomplished by using a unique basket design and hi-roll surround. The Plus One+ design offers greater bass output and increased efficiency.

Hi-roll Rubber Surrounds: The hi-roll rubber surrounds allow the woofers a greater range of movement, resulting in longer X-max and more bass output.

Tweeters: Each speaker uses an edge-driven textile dome tweeter and a super-tweeter for smooth, accurate highs. A switch on the front of the tweeter housing allows you to boost the tweeter output 3dB, useful if the speakers are mounted in a location where high frequencies are easily absorbed.

True Four Ohm Impedance Technology: The speaker's 3-ohm impedance combined with the impedance of your speaker wire provides a true 4-ohm load to your connected head unit or amplifier.

Power Handling: Although Infinity rates the 9603ix speakers at 100 watts RMS (continuous average), they also recommend amplifiers with a power rating from 5 to 200 watts RMS.

Joe, one more thing. Use a good quality speaker cable and not factory wiring. Reason for this is it will cut down on distortion in the sound. I highly recommend MONSTER CABLE. A little expensive but well worth the sound quality. [ David  Oct 14, 2015 ]
Joe, I was able to bottom mount (under the rear deck) my speakers using different screws and a little adjustment to the factory holes. Then I was able to reuse the factory covers giving it the factory speaker look. I have a 2002 Honda Accord, depending on you're make and model car you have you may be able to do the same, if you're replacing factory speakers. It really depends on how the rear deck is formed to fit the speakers. I will say this,,,, YOU WILL LOVE THE SOUND THESE PUPPIES PUT OUT, and if you have a power amp hooked to them, WOW!!!!!!! If you have any issues feel free to contact me here with the vehicle information and I'll see what I can do to help you get them in. ONE NOTE, make sure everything is good and tight as the bass they can produce is AWESOME! Let me know how it turns out. David [ David  Oct 14, 2015 ]
They do come with grill's. [ RUDY  Oct 26, 2014 ]
they do come with the grills and the speakers work great. [ Frank  Oct 24, 2014 ]

They do come with the grills, screws, and extra Infinity emblems. [ monte  Oct 24, 2014 ]
I got these and yes they do come with the grille/screen but depending on where you're installing you won't need them or possibly not have the room for them [ Fred  Oct 24, 2014 ]
