A compact speaker with a big voice

When it comes to speakers, JBL knows their stuff. They should — they've been building high-performance loudspeakers for decades. Their Arena 130 bookshelf speakers use JBL's long-standing design expertise to deliver an affordable speaker with impressively big sound and a sleek, compact enclosure.

Each cabinet features a high-output 7" woofer for deep, powerful lows and clear mids, plus a 1" soft dome tweeter for smooth, extended highs. The Arena 130's room-filling, full-range sound makes it a great choice for both music and home theater systems.

Born from JBL's storied studio heritage

The Arena series' crisp, punchy sound was inspired by JBL's mighty M2 Master Reference Monitor — one of the finest speakers they've ever created. The Arena 130's tweeter uses JBL's proprietary HDI (High Definition Imaging) waveguide technology to help deliver optimum sound quality throughout your room.

Build a complete Arena system

JBL Arena series speakers let you enjoy dramatic and well-defined sound in just about any room. Use a pair to create a high-quality stereo system, or build your own custom home theater speaker system by combining Arena bookshelf or tower speakers with JBL's Arena 125C center channel speaker. And don't forget to add the perfectly matched Arena Sub 100P powered subwoofer to get deep, rumbling bass in the mix.

good for a small room

michelle from Los Angel on 7/21/2017

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

nice sound. I can hear all the tones, even with only a 2-speaker set up. The sound is ... small...contained, I guess. I have them in a small room, so it's okay for me; but in a big room it might not work.

Pros: easy to set up reproduces all the notes

Cons: weigh a lot sound seems contained

Back to Basics

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great sounding speakers! This is my 3rd set of JBL's and the bass response for this size speaker is fantastic. It's not fair to compare them to my big 940's, but the 130's play considerably "Bigger" than their size. Used in a 2.0 setup with 100 watts and an old school EQ, it's a classic sound. If money was no object, I'm sure there are better sounding speakers. But for my budget, JBL's always hit the sweet spot.

Pros: Sound & build quality are respectable for the $.

Cons: None

Dissappointment

Mark from Queen Creek, AZ on 3/16/2017

Bought these speakers for a front L and R main channel for 5.1 surround sound system to replace my JBL Northridge Series ND310 floor standing when I moved into a new home. Needed a high quality bookshelf speaker to fit into cutouts in entertainment wall. Very disappointed with the Arena 130. They can't handle any bass whatsoever and rattle when pushed. Speakers look cheap and appear to made of plastic. Not what I expect from JBL.

Pros: Not

Cons: Cheap materials. Below expectation quality from JBL brand

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great compliment to arena floor standing speakers . I am using the 130's as rear channel and like the bass response they provide . I have them placed on stands about 24" off the floor. I have used them as bookshelf stereo speakers and they sound great. The cabinets look good too.

The sound is somewhat flat when playing in direct from an Onkyo receiver. I hope that after 2 or 300 hrs it will improve in sound.

You will need a receiver with Bluetooth capability that can sync with your phone. If you prefer portability and a less expensive option check into a Bluetooth powered speaker by Bose or JBL . The Bluetooth speaker option gives up quite a bit in terms of sound and stereo imaging but costs much less and is portable with a rechargeable battery [ Richard  Feb 28, 2017 ]
