Overview

Our take on the JBL GT7-5C

These GT7-5C component speakers from JBL have everything you want when shopping for a car speaker: an advanced design, quality materials, a cool look, and a practical price tag. But in the end, it's what they sound like that matters most, and true to their iconic heritage, these JBLs deliver.

GT7-5C profile

The compact design of the GT7-5C woofer makes this system a fit for a wide variety of cars.

A cool upgrade

These GT7-5C component speakers from JBL have everything you want when shopping for a car speaker: an advanced design, quality materials, a cool look, and a practical price tag. But in the end, it's what they sound like that matters most, and true to their iconic heritage, these JBLs deliver.

How do they do it?

You'll gain a satisfying boost in sound quality from this component system, thanks to JBL's patented Plus One™ architecture, which expands the surface area of the polypropylene woofer for impressive bass. And the edge-driven dome tweeters handle a wider range in the high frequencies for more natural sound — vocals, in particular, benefit from a smoother transition from the midrange. The external crossovers direct the right frequencies to the each driver to ensure a balanced sound.

JBL built these GT7 speakers to handle up to 45 watts RMS, so they'll perform spectacularly with an aftermarket radio or amp, but with a design geared toward maximum efficiency, you'll get superior performance even from a factory radio. Grilles are included for a custom installation.

Installation note: You'll need a pair of our universal backstraps to install the tweeters in the factory locations.

Highlights:

  • component speaker system includes 2 woofers, 2 tweeters, and 2 external crossovers
  • 5-1/4" polypropylene Plus One™ woofer cone with foam surround
  • 1-13/16" edge-driven dome PEI tweeter
  • power range: 2-45 watts RMS (135 watts peak power)
  • frequency response: 65-20,000 Hz
  • sensitivity: 92 dB
  • woofer top-mount depth: 2-5/16"
  • grilles included
  • warranty: 1 year
  • Our 60-day money-back guarantee

These were very easy to install and the tweeters really bring a new dimension to the music.

Great sound at an excellent price!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

My Acura MDX had a pretty decent speakers but they sound tired and needed of a replacement. Cosmo from Crutchfield recommended these speaker, which I concur based on my extensive analysis of options, price range and reviews. As always, Crutchfield service was excellent. The speakers came pretty fast and the installation instructions were great. The speakers needed some time to adjust and the sound to fit properly, which I can say improved in 2-3 days of normal use. They sound superv with a lot of detail that I was missing on the factory ones's. Highs were controlled and adjusted as the sound mature. The center speaker made all the difference and the clarity of the music were improved a lot just with that change. My next step will be to replace the subwoofer but wanted to test the JBL's one step at a time. Couldn't be more satisfied with them.

Pros: - Perfect fit, easy to install - great sound improvement with just the midrange - Balance sound at a great price

Cons: - tweeter require more work to connect to the crossover, over factory connection - midrange came in pair, so I end up with 1 to spare.

I purchased these speakers to replace the factory JBL subs that were gone. I have had them for a few weeks and regret not changing the speakers sooner. the bass is tight and the sound is superior to the original factory setup

Pros: Great sound

Cons: it takes a little creativity to install even with the speaker ring kit. I used the original factory speaker mounting rings after cutting the basket off (saw it on an online video) then attached the kit to it and it worked perfect in the factory opening. I also sealed the rings with black silicon.

Stock receiver Blew Bass

Douglas from New Jersey on 6/5/2016

2000 Oldsmobile Alero

Bass couldn't hack it. Why are they saying it is compatible with an Alero if it blew the bass speakers like this. If you do not want to keep adjusting your bass low for certain tracks do not get these. Otherwise, the mid and high is really good which is what saved this from being 1 star.

Pros: Mid and high

Cons: Bass

Crutchfield response on 6/7/2016 Component speakers like these JBL speakers do generally benefit from more power, but our OutfitMyCarT compatibility is based on vehicle fit and not power. That's where our knowledgeable Advisors can help you make the right choices for your vehicle. Our Advisors would've possibly suggested 6-1/2" or 6x9 speakers to fit the Alero's rear deck locations, since larger speakers produce more bass response.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Like the title, this is a good overall set of component speakers for their price range. Installation is straight forward inline with crossovers. The highs on the tweeters are very sharp and the woofers are great for mid range sound.

Pros: Easy installation Sharp highs Strong lows

Cons: The connections on the woofer are delicate and seem to move if you abuse during installation

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I installed these in my 2008 Subaru Legacy and the tweeters sound good, but my only complaint is that I was expecting a lot more powerful bass. I would suggest getting a sub if you want more bass because these just don't produce it. The overall sound is very clear.

Pros: Good sound

Cons: Terrible bass

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Not bad. Very nice speakers. Very clear and about average midbass. Only reason it didn't get 5 stars, the "universal" adapter wasn't a perfect fit. The midrange speaker was suspended without any way to seal to the adapter bracket.

Pros: Reasonable price, good sound

Cons: Included bracket

Great sound from such small speakers. Replaced the stock ones in my 1990 740, they were all blown out. Huge difference in sound even with the factory radio, which will also be replaced soon.

Pros: Great sound Inexpensive Easy install

Cons: None really.

Solid little speakers for the price

2008 Honda CRV LX
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

My only complaint about these speakers, which should be a given considering their size, is lack of bass. Get a sub. I'm also not going to spend hundreds of dollars to soundproof my car. That said, this package did wonders for my CRV. I listen to a lot of podcasts and the dash-mounted tweeters made a massive difference. What used to be muddy and sometimes unintelligible is now crystal clear. With music I get great punch in the mid-bass. Kick drums and toms really jump out. Again, more actual bass is necessary, or at least some additional juice if you're just powering the speakers with your head unit. Installation was a snap. I'm pleased, especially considering the price.

Pros: Great highs. Punchy mids.

Cons: No bass.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Speakers installed fine. Wiring diagram from mfr did not apply to my install. Bass response seems to be a little tighter, even tho factory speakers were slightly larger

Pros: Slight improvement on bass response. Maybe an add on amplifier would make a noticeable difference?

Cons: Tweeters that came with this component system sound shrill compared to old original factory tweeters. Included crossovers had virtually no effect, ended up leaving those out. Kept factory wiring as far as woofer, tweeter configuration. When wired according to factory sheet, tweeters have very little output, as if I didn't have them. Would not recommend this system. Maybe an add on amp is required to make an audible difference?

Loud and Crisp

MicktheBass from Wisconsin on 4/3/2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I chose this speaker primarily for the high sensitivity compared to its rivals of similar price. It did not disappoint. Very loud, crisp mids and highs akin to what you get in the high-end OEM systems of top-end German cars. I ran these without an amp and they could easily keep up with my subwoofer. They cannot compete in the low-end department with more expensive component speakers, but that should not be a concern for anyone who is powering components with an HU. If you want bass, get a sub. If you want clear and crisp mids and highs, get these and power them with whatever.

Pros: Very loud, even with little amplification Wonderful resolution across the mid and high ranges Small, easily hidden crossover

Cons: No speaker wire was included for connecting the tweeters to the crossover; my experience with Polk and Infinity is that those brands provide a length of pre-cut wire with terminals for wiring your tweets.

2009 MINI Cooper
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Love the sound, easy install for the larger 5 1/4 cone. Smaller tweeter cone was a little fiddle, but I was prepared for it. Scosche brackets worked well. Now I just have to get the rear 6x9's replaced, but I am going to enjoy as is for a while Mini Cooper 2009 with stock stereo

Pros: Crutchfield directions were very good, and instant improvement to the sonic experience. Did a lot of online research before jumping in and all went swimmingly well. Thought the crossover might give me a fit, but was simple to attach and dial in. No change in the appearance of the interior.

Cons: Had to fab a bracket for the tweeter, but that went as advertised. Scosche does not seem to make little brackets. Just used some weatherstripping aluminum and tin snips.

Tweeter Mounting Options: Using the supplied housings the tweeters can be surface mounted flat or surface mounted at an angle (no flush mount housing is included). Once mounted in the appropriate housing, the tweeters have these dimensions:
