Highs and lows
JBL's MS-52C component speaker system sports a 5-1/4" woofer housed in a rugged cast aluminum basket that's specially vented to shed heat and run cool. The cone's fiberglass laminate construction ensures that it'll hold its shape when the music is kicking and the volume is high, so you'll enjoy tight, clean bass and accurate midrange output without missing a beat.

Titanium sets the bar for crisp high-frequency response, and you can rely on the MS-52C's 1" titanium tweeter to cut through road and wind noise. The inverted dome tweeter design offers strong output and excellent dispersion — ideal for sharp stereo imaging.

Adjustable crossovers for fine-tuned sound
This speaker set comes with a pair of high-quality external crossover networks, featuring superior components that create a smooth transition between the woofer and tweeter. Tailor the sound to your car and taste with three levels of tweeter output and phase control.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I do a LOT of research before buying anything. So I reviewed component sets for several weeks before buying these. All of my research led me to try these as they ALWAYS came up in discussions on best component sets for the money (many users stated them to be better than other sets costing much more). I had updated my system recently with the Kenwood KDC-997 (excellent head unit, highly recommended, also purchased here), My system sounded great with the Kenwood all dialed in, but I wanted components that would play a little lower and take more wattage. This set sounded fantastic. I noticed immediately the improvement, a sharp clarity in the music. Mid range is great, with all instruments coming through loud and clear, vocals are spot on. As for the tweeters, well, they are without a doubt, some of the BEST sounding tweets I have ever had the pleasure of listening to, and I have heard many sets. These are titanium domes, but they have absolutely none of the harshness normally associated with metal dome tweets. The highs are astonishingly smooth and crystal clear. Cymbals, high-hats,cowbells,( yes cowbells, I do like to try out new speakers using an eclectic mix of music), all ring true. Crossovers are very nice, using quality parts, and the crossover enclosures are very sturdy, so you can safely tuck them away almost anywhere without fear of accidental damage. The included grills are very sturdy, look great, set also comes with lots of wire, screws, and mounting hardware.

Pros: Excellent sounding set, very, very good value for the money. In fact, I would gladly pay the asking price for the sweet sounding tweeters alone. Grills on both the tweeters and mids are very sturdy, and look great. Sounds great at lower wattage, but really comes alive with more juice. This set sounded great with only 40 watts, but do sound much better with the recommended RMS of 80 watts.

Cons: Not really a con but I did have to replace my front stage amp with a larger one to really make them shine. I was planning this anyway , as I like to run slightly larger amps than needed, so I can keep my gains set lower. Doing this lessons the chance of unwanted distortion, and will lower or eliminate system noise. In my experience, this set really shines with recommended 80 watts RMS.

Woofer Cones: The woofer cones are a lightweight yet rigid fiberglass laminate, minimizing distortion due to cone flex and improving the bass response. The rubber surround is resistant to ultraviolet rays, temperature extremes, and humidity to add to the speaker's reliability and longevity.

Woofer Baskets: The woofers' cast-aluminum baskets are vented to dissipate heat, allowing them to play louder without the distortion caused by power compression. A woofer phase plug further reduces heat buildup by allowing air to move freely within the motor assembly for greater voice-coil cooling.

Terminals: The wire terminals on the woofers are spring posts; they will accept bare wire up to 12 gauge.

Inverted-Dome Tweeters: The inverted-dome titanium tweeters are stiff, light, and extremely efficient.

Mounting: The tweeters can be flush mounted or surface mounted using the included housings. The surface mount housings are angled and offer two mounting options, approximately 9° and approximately 40°.

Tweeter Mounting Dimensions:

Flush Mount 9° Surface Mount 40° Surface Mount
Mounting Height 0.334" 1.27" 1.61"

External Crossover: The MS-52C system features external 2-way passive crossovers using wire-wound resistors and polypropylene caps.

Tweeter Output Level: Each crossover allows you to select the tweeter output level according to system requirements and personal preference. The tweeter level can be set to 0 dB (flat), -3 dB, or -6 dB.

Tweeter Phase: The tweeter phase can also be easily reversed using jumpers in the crossovers.

Crossover Connections: The crossover inputs and outputs are screw terminals; they will accommodate spade connectors up to 0.3" wide.

Crossover Dimensions:

  • Width: 3.08"
  • Height: 1.15"
  • Depth: 5.11"

Q & A

Customer Q&A

1 question already asked

Personally, I would run these with a sub, as the 5-1/4" size physically limits the amount of bass they can produce. They can play down into mid bass range, but I run this set high passed at 200hz, and let my mid bass and sub handle everything below. Though they will not play sub bass, they are an excellent set of components, a set I would highly recommend . [ KELVIN  Jan 05, 2014 ]
