Overheats and kills itself don't buy

Elizabeth from Virginia on 7/18/2017

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this amp and had it and all my equipment professionally installed in March, for the first month it was fine but when the weather got warmer outside it would overheat and shut off for a while and now it doesn't work at all. Yellow light stays on constantly and no bass in my system.. I wouldn't recommend spending your money on this.

Cons: Overheats

Crutchfield response on 7/19/2017 After receiving Elizabeth's feedback, we looked up her order and found that her amp is still under warranty. While her order is beyond Crutchfield's 60-day return policy, she can contact Jensen at 866-382-5476 for further information about the 1-year warranty on this amp.

Thought it was worth a try

Brad from Plainfield, IL on 7/13/2017

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Thought i'd give this amp a try given the price point but sadly i regret doing so. Been using the amp for about 2 weeks with my P2D4 12" and this amp is impossible to get tuned to sound good. I've tried myself adjusting it over the time that I've had it as well as had 2 professionals make the attempt to no avail. Also this amp has some serious overheating issues, after twenty minutes of use I'm unable to rest my hand on the device for more than a few seconds due to the intensity of the heat.

Pros: Price sleek look

Cons: Even a professional can't get this amp to sound good. Serious heat issue.

Crutchfield response on 7/17/2017 Brad, we're sorry you're disappointed with your amp. Amp easily overheats and shuts down. Randomly, it will start working again but its not very reliable. All the packaging was discarded as I was not planning on returning this.

Crutchfield response on 7/10/2017 Once we saw this review, our Tech Support team reached out to Jesus to help him further. We'll either help him get the amp working the way it should, or help him return it for an exchange or refund.

Overheats easily!

John from Elk River, MN on 6/15/2017

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this amp along with a 10" punch p2d2 sub and a box. I am extremely disappointed with this amp! It will not run a 4 ohm load for more than 30 minutes before overheating and shutting down! I trusted that this was a quality amp and could run to the advertised spec but even with the gain set to less that half the amp overheats... Of course all the packaging was disposed of at the install shop so I am stuck with a piece of junk amp. :(

Pros: price

Cons: overheats very easily, cannot run 300 watt x 1 @ 4ohm without overheating

Crutchfield response on 6/20/2017 Once we saw this review, our Tech Support team reached out to John to help him further. We'll either help him get the amp working the way it should, or help him return it for an exchange or refund.

Pros: price looks quality

Cons: none

Amazing for the price

Noah from Brookings, SD on 3/15/2017

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This amp blew me away. I had an RE Audio amp before this that had awful noise filters, let a lot of alternator whine through. This one has been working flawless and it's 100% quiet. Huge bang for your buck! The light was confusing at first as I thought it was in protect mode, but in the manual it states that red is normal and yellow means there's an issue

Pros: Everything

Cons: Power Light uses unconventional colors

Cons: well...i hooked this amp up, and with the 4GA Stinger amp kit, cant get the amp to do anything :( the amp and " bass " adjuster light up red and no sound goes to amp. i even double checked everything 3 times and still no sound outa subs. i tried switching the subs out with subs i know work and still get the same thing, no sound... i called jenson 1st and they werent much help., they blamed it on the amp kit,,,called stinger...they blamed it on the Amp... so far at a standstill with everything :(

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This amp was extremely powerful and can hold its own. Installed with a pair of JL's 12WXv2 and even with the levels on the amp set at half it still made the car shake.

Pros: Great sound, great price, great for showing off

Hands-on research

Product Research

Overview: The Jensen DUB Edition amplifiers offer performance and value for your vehicle's sound system. With a MOSFET power supply and high-current Toshiba bi-polar output transistors, the DUB amps provide lots of power and control to give your music impressive punch and clarity. The Class AB design reduces idle current and minimizes distortion.

Power Output: The DUBa1450 mono block amplifier delivers the following power output:

  • CEA Specifications: RMS power output @ 1% THD+N, 10-300Hz, 14.4 VDC:
    • 260 watts x 1 @ 4 ohms
    • 400 watts x 1 @ 2 ohms
  • RMS Power Output @ 2% THD+N, 1 kHz, 14.4 VDC:
    • 300 watts x 1 @ 4 ohms
    • 450 watts x 1 @ 2 ohms

Protection Circuitry: The amplifier features protection circuitry for thermal overload, DC-offset, and short circuits. The LED on the top of the amp glows yellow if a fault is detected.

Pass-thru RCAs: The DUBa1450 has a pair of RCA connectors that allow you to connect additional amplifiers without having to use a Y-adapter. The line output is unfiltered, providing the same signal as the RCA input.

End Caps: The DUB Edition amps include end caps to cover the wiring and controls for a clean installation. The end caps can be painted to match your vehicle, if desired. The end cap brackets can be removed if you wish to install the amp without the end caps.

Input Level: The DUBa1450's rotary gain control let you match the amp's input sensitivity to the output of the source unit. The input sensitivity range of the amplifier is continuously variable between 400mV and 5V. A small screwdriver (not included) is required to set the gain.

Remote Input Level Control: The amp includes a Remote Input Level Control module with a 5-meter (16.5') 6-pin modular cable. You can adjust the input level of the amplifier from the driver's seat or an alternate location. This allows you to tune the amount of bass you want for different types of music. The module can be mounted under or in the dash.

Low-pass Filter: The amp features a 12 dB/octave low-pass filter that is adjustable from 40 to 300 Hz.

Sub Sonic Filter: The Sub Sonic filter removes ultra-low frequencies that cannot be reproduced by most subwoofers. These frequencies do not become sound, but unnecessary oscillations which affect sound by causing distortion. These frequencies also waste amplifier power and can cause damage to speakers. The filter's crossover point is variable from 10 to 40 Hz with a slope of 12 dB/octave.

Bass Boost: The DUBa1450 has a 0 to 12dB bass boost, centered at 45Hz.

Set-screw Terminals: The Jensen DUBa1450 uses set-screw terminals for the +12V power, ground, turn-on (remote) lead, and speaker outputs. The set-screws can be tightened/loosened with a Phillips-head screwdriver (not provided).

Power/Ground: The +12V Power and Ground terminals will accept up to 4 AWG wire. You should use at least an 8-gauge power wire to the battery, with an in-line 60A fuse installed no more than 18" from the battery terminal. An 8 AWG ground wire (minimum) should be used, and attached to a metal area close to the amplifier.

Remote Turn-On: The Remote set-screw terminal will accept up to 8 AWG wire. Typically, an 18 AWG turn-on lead is included in an amplifier wiring kit.

Low-Level Input: The amplifier is equipped with a pair of RCA inputs for connecting a stereo RCA patch cable from the head unit to the amp. A stereo RCA line output is also provided for daisy-chaining another amplifier without requiring a Y-adapter.

Speaker Outputs: The amp features two positive and two negative set-screw terminals for connecting one or two speakers. For maximum power, it is recommended that you configure the speakers for a nominal 2-ohm load. The terminals will accept up to 8 AWG wire, however, it is recommended that you use a minimum of 12 AWG wire.

Q & A

Customer Q&A

Crutchfield asked
Why did you buy this?

I watched one of the videos on what to look for when choosing an amp, and they said more power is always better. So I chose this amp because it has a lot of power and was less expensive than some of the other amps I saw. [ John  Apr 28, 2017 ]
Price of the open box [ Jayson  Apr 20, 2017 ]
Seemed like the best bang for the buck on getting back into car audio. [ ALEC  Apr 11, 2017 ]

Nice price. [ DEAN  Apr 03, 2017 ]
I purchased this amp to replace an old 180 W amp I had powering a DVC 12" Cerwin -Vega sub. This amp cranks! For $80 it can't be beat. Buying a second for another subwoofer. [ Larry  Mar 20, 2017 ]

Thanks for your question. For information on selecting the best amp/sub combo I would recommend reaching out to an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They will be able to help determine the differences between the amp models and help you make the best choice for your system. [ Kenny  Jun 06, 2017 ]  Staff
There is no specified power output at an 8-ohm load, but the Jensen DUBa1450 shouldn't have issues driving your 8-ohm 6x9" sub. It would likely produce somewhere around 125-150 watts at 8-ohm. If you would like to discuss further, please feel free to contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. [ Larry  Apr 05, 2017 ]  Staff
This Amp will work great with an 8 ohm load, Class AB Amps are designed so that the less resistance the less power it will produce and the less heat it will generate. I would think the output would be closer to 145-150 Watts at* ohms but as long as you do not overdrive the sub it will appreciate the headroom. [ Electrician  Mar 27, 2017 ]
Thanks for your question. Yes it does. On the main product page under "What's in the Box", you will see the included Remote Input Level Control module which has a 16.5' Remote Input Level Control cable (with RJ-25 plugs at both ends). Hope this helps. [ Kenny  Mar 04, 2017 ]  Staff
