Jensen DUBW12 12" Subwoofer

Big bass with urban good looks.

Big bass and good looks

The 12" DUBw12 subwoofer features a reinforced injection-molded polypropylene cone for optimum stiffness and maximum low-frequency output. Teamed with a high damping rubber surround, the sub gives you DUB-approved performance in a stylish and affordable package. The DUBw12 also features special venting for heat dissipation, a ceramic-ferrite magnet, and a heavy-duty stamped steel basket to give rigidity to the entire structure. The DUB-derived cosmetics include new dust caps, a new finish and a stylish grille, so you get big bass and urban good looks in one package.

To drive this single subwoofer, we recommend a mono amplifier rated between 260 and 525 watts RMS at 4 ohms. For more information, please refer to our article on How to Match Subwoofers and Amplifiers.

So much better than I expected. At the sale price I had no great expectations. I know (they) don't recommend using car speakers for home use but I've done it many times before with no issues. I think car speakers are more resilient than home speakers. I used these to replace some 12" woofers in a couple of old Cerwin Vega home speakers running off an old Harmon Kardon receiver. The sound is very clean. Once broken in they have a smooth effortless bass with a good thump when the music calls for it. I haven't pushed them too much but for my use they perform quite well. Didn't use the included grilles.

Pros: Sound clean and smooth.

Sub hits hard when I crank it. Dims the lights slightly when I have it too loud. But that's a capacitor issue. Overall great woofer. I paired mine with a 600 watt 2 Channel Dual amp

Pros: Hits hard with 600 watt amp

Cons: Dims my lights when it hits if it's turned up loud. Cap would fix this

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Was impressed right out of the box with the overall build quality. The surround is high quality rubber and the entire sub looks and feels like it should cost much more. I was very skeptical for the sound quality because the cone is plastic and I've always just stuck with expensive JL audio subs. With a little tweaking on my amp and head unit, this thing provides incredible, clean bass that rivals entry level high end subs that cost 150. Mine is installed under the back seat in an extended cab truck in a 1cubic ft sealed enclosure with a little polyfill inside.

Pros: Clean bass, price

Cons: None yet

good sound even using low wattage

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I've had few different set ups over the years. Different subs from orion (early 90s when they were the sub to have) to infinity, and Rockford fosgate. Sizes from 8s up to 15s. I wasn't expecting much from this sub. I wanted a budget system for my work truck (simi). I already had an older 4 channel kicker amp laying around plus a pair of Rockford prime 6.5 components along with a Kenwood hu. The amp is an a/b 35x4. Have it running the components and the dub bridged getting 100 watts (well under crutch fields recommendations but within Jensen's) and two sets of pioneer 6.5 full range running off the hu. I brought a pre fab sealed 1.25 box from wal mart. The box didn't come assembled. It had doubled sided tape on it to seal the box. What a joke. Needless to say i took the tape off and used wood glue to seal it. With the sub being in a sealed box it could really use more wattage but even at a 100 watts it fills out the cab decently. No it does not pound but a nice clean low bass sound. I prefer the sound over a ported box for the type of music I listen to (hard rock). I used the snap on cover at first but all it did was rattle against the speaker. Rather then mess with trying to mount it better I tossed it. four stars for the price and the fact that it does a pretty good job even on low wattage. Would be interesting to hear with more power. Not sure it could handle 350 rms . Have my doubts but could prove me wrong. This is a good speaker for someone on a budget.

Pros: good low budget speaker.

Cons: The grill

great pounding bass awesome

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This sub is perfect for me. I was just looking to add some low end to my car's sound and this did the trick. Adds a nice solid low end. It can shake the car and mirrors if that's what you want. I'm not to sure about it going all the way down to 22db though. Overall a great sub for the price. Paired with a sound storm evo 1500.1 amp in a ported box.

Pros: The price Adds a nice low end for the price Great entry level sub

Cons: Doesn't quite get down to 22db Nothing special about it but does the job

good bang for the buck.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I had two 10s in a huge box that took up my entire trunk. I wanted to downsize and reclaim some trunk space, but still keep my bumpin. This sub does not disappoint. I have one Jensen DUBw12 running on a Dual XPE2700 amp. At first, I had it in a smaller, sealed box, and it sounded AWFUL. Now that I have the sub in a larger ported box, it sounds GREAT; it is only a little less booming than the two 10s it replaced. makes the rear view mirror bounce enough so that I can't see out of it.

Pros:

Cons:

Alot of bump for your buck

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Above what I expected from the woofer however 22htz isn't gonna happen with this sub like the specs say I have 2 in a 4.7cf box ported and tuned to 32htz and they start to struggle with accurate sound reproduction at that level pretty decently loud and I like the grills it came with But my honest opinion for the money I'd of rather bought soundqubed or skar subs

Pros: Cool protective grill hit fairly low for the price.

Cons: Not true to there power 325w would destroy one of these i bottomed one out on 250w don't do nearly as good in the lows as my old kenwoods, type r or the skar or soundqubed subs . Sound quality sounds like I paid the correct price for the woofer, which is ok only bothers me on a few songs

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This sub was my first venture into improving my car audio experience, and I have to say that it was definitely worth it. This paired alongside a Boss audio AR1500m 1500w mono block and a cheap receiver has far exceeded my expectations. The shipping from Crutchfield was fast (the package arrived in two days) and well packed. Spent ~$180 versus my friend that spent $400+ on more name brand products, His is boomy and mudddy (likely just the enclosure but I'm not telling) while my setup is body shaking and crisp. A little forethought goes a long way

Pros: Impressive sound- this subwoofer provides body pounding, window shaking bass while staying very tight and clear Price- for the money, the sound that come out of this thing is shocking Build- the body and frame of this sub are quite solid and weighty enough to scream quality. Looks- I'll venture to say that when most people get a sub, they want it to be noticed. With or without the grille, this sub looks every bit as aggressive as it sounds

Cons: Looks- if you want a little more refined system and still need to protect the sub, I wouldn't use the grille that comes included. It definitely looks a little gaudy if you don't have it in the right suroundings (like a teenager's sports car) Thats it, its obviously not gonna push the bass that a $400 sub would, but price to performance puts this on top.

Nice sub for the price

steve from Fairfield, CA on 5/8/2016

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I got this sub for an intro into the the 12" class, I have an old realistic floor sub that i put this speaker in. the dimensions of the cabinet were good, i took the crossover out and cut away all the excess wires. Once mounted i put it in the back of my 06 focus and started to wire it up. I used Crutchfield's ema225 amp @330 watts max, also used the wire kit from Crutchfield. (The wire kit could of used a few more tie ties, but other than that, it had everything that i needed at a really nice price. Im trusting the spec's that Crutchfield gave me on the amp and speaker--they look like a good balanced match. But when i pulled out the speaker for the first time there was a big flashy sticker that says, 1400 watts max--yikes. However, jensens spec sheet coincides with Crutchfield's. The sound of the speaker is pleasing, it brings a soft rumble of base to the stage that fills my car, I really did not test it for that really loud hard hitting base since the speaker is new for im sure there is a break in period. But i did hear enough to not doubt that when the time comes, this speaker will produce. Also, the pioneer 4100 nex picks up the starting hz of the speaker which i thought was pretty cool, it shows 22hz to start and 125 hz cutoff on the graph. Update 5.27.2016: Gave this speaker time to break in and then tested it hard. Now, it aint going to hit as hard as my friends 4X12" subs and 3000 watts thats in his Tahoe, but i bet if you used four of these Jensens and 3000 watts it would sound as good if not better. With his kickers thats all you hear, boom boom boom- no music really. This jensen and the ema 225 amp plus the polk tweeters and stock sony speakers sound really great,, I mean really nice, when the base comes it sounds really good, plenty enough to vibrate your ear lobes and hits really hard to vibrate the whole car. i think a lot of that comes from the low starting 22 hz. Like earlier, my friends hits hard, mine does too but i get a lot more bass vibration than he does. So, my opinion is, if you have a small car with minimum room and are looking for some really nice big bass sound you cant go wrong with this Jensen 12 incher. Plus, as a bonus, with Crutchfield's guidance and tech support i pretty much got a whole system for less money than my friend did for his four subs and two amps installed. (Head unit is a pioneer 4100 nex,)

Honestly, the Jensen name has been around a very long time all though it was never associated with top of the line, ever, and to my knowledge still isn't. I've sporadically owned their products through the years and while they may not have had the specs of higher end stuff they were fairly reliable, this sub matches my box perfectly, for the price I'll give it a go, has more than decent specs and good reviews. Add all that up and it's a no-brainer, being this old man is on such a tight budget! [ Gerald  Feb 23, 2017 ]

2 questions already asked

The DUBW12 are SVC 4 ohm subs so, yes, you can wire two of them in parallel to your mono amp for a 2 ohm final load. If your amp provides 500 watts RMS at 2 Ohms, each of the two subs would get up to 250 watts. [ Ryan  Oct 12, 2017 ]  Staff
If the dimensions of your home theater sub will accept this subs dimensions yes this sub will work for that application. Just make sure the ohms on your amp can handle the ohms of this sub. [ Timothy  Oct 01, 2016 ]
