Play it all
When you're ready to enjoy some tunes, play your favorite store-bought CDs and DVDs or discs you've loaded with MP3 and WMA files. You'll find an SD card slot and USB input for MP3 and WMA file playback too. And you can plug in and control your iPod® with the touchscreen. Further your sound enjoyment by adjusting the audio with the three-band equalizer, or keep it simple and select one of the eight preset EQ curves.

Create an audio/video system
Use the convenient front-panel audio/video auxiliary input to hook up your favorite portable audio player, a camcorder, or another video source. The receiver boasts a video output to send movies to rear video screen, and you'll also find an input for a rear-view camera — perfect for when you're maneuvering your vehicle in tight spaces.

If you're building a high-powered system, you'll enjoy the utility of front, rear, and mono subwoofer preamp outputs. You can also add Jensen's NAV-104 navigation module to enjoy maps and guidance on your screen.

Want to keep your car's steering wheel audio controls?
In most vehicles, you can use an adapter to connect your vehicle's steering wheel controls to this stereo. Connect a few wires, then program the adapter for your particular car and the receiver, and you'll retain the convenience of your steering wheel controls. Check the "Accessories" tab for compatible adapters.

Note: If you're going to use your iPod with this receiver, be sure to check "Details" for specific iPod model compatibility with this receiver or its optional iPod adapter.

Bought this stereo to replace the factory unit in my 03 Silverado. I like the MP3/CD/DVD playback and the ipod ready controls. It will even display album art when playing.

Pros: Ipod read. SD card slot displays photos and plays music from the card. Great proce versus comparable units. If you don't buy all the bells and whistles (bluetooth, nav) they can always be added later, its all modular.

Cons: Boring interface, no dimmer control, too bright at night, only three band EQ.

    Good product Excellent customer service!!

Can't be beat for the money. I would probably of waited and gone with a more feature loaded one with brightness controls. This was my first purchase from crutch field and I have never dealt with a company that has such great customer service. My install was flawless ( because of detailed instruction) and I was having issues with my sub and amp and they answered on 3rd ring and I got an American who knew exactly what I was talking about and solved my problem. Will be a customer for along time!

Pros: Price, looks, easy of use

    Cons: No brightness control

Seems to work OK for now, have not tried the video input yet. I put this unit in my motorhome for sound and video. Video is used as a rearview mirror. I have not really used it enough to give it a 5 star for reliability, but it does work.

Pros: Good quality, heavy, with all the features I wanted. I would buy it again.

Cons: Wish it could use my Bluetooth GPS for my Ipod. Is too big for my dash, had to modify it to hold the heavy unit.

    Not for big Car Audio

Nick580 from Norman, Oklahoma on 1/31/2013

If you are looking to buy this product in order to slightly upgrade your stock reciever then this is the headunit for you. However, if you are interested in buying this in order to expand your cars system with anything other than component speakers then find something else. This has a 3 band equilizer... Its reference voltage is terrible and it tends to clip at quite a low volume. Aside from the technical flaws of this reciever my complaints are this: you cannot search for music by Artist, Genre, Song, ect..., the touch screen lags, and the screen is also inaccurate. I will admit that this will do it job, but it will not do it very well.

    Pros: does its job

Cons: poor quality the inability to select songs by artist, genre, ect... innacurate screen

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Bought it as a temporary thing until I buy a better unit, was very disappointed. Touchscreen is inaccurate and doesn't work sometimes. The unit lags A LOT. Whether I'm browsing through the menus, changing the volume, or changing the source it lags. DVD's take a very long time to load. Unit sometimes freezes up on iPod and I have to reset the iPod to make it work again.

    Pros: Cheap Works

Cons: Lag lag lag Inaccurate touchscreen

    Good For the Price

Big B from Auburn, ME on 7/22/2012

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

bought this for the DVD player and am not disappointed, it works and looks good. I am a little sad that the radio reception I now get is not as good as my stock radio was. I experience a lot of static on stations that used to be strong and static free. Movies and CDs, MP3s all sound great though. I intend to add the Bluetooth hands free unit soon. Took about 2 hours to install, only had to remove a bracket in the back of my radio opening to get to fit snug, very snug.

Pros: DVD's, CD's, and MP3s sound great. Loved the price, and I like the expandability. Touchscreen works flawlessly. I dont see the glaring need for a brightness level adjujstment that some others have stated. I got what I expected.

Cons: Radio reception seems to be a step down from my stock unit, but thats about my only complaing.

    Good purchase

    Dmilitant1 from Trinidad & Tobago on 6/30/2012

ok...well u cant beat the price !!! only issues are 1. needs brightness control.... 2. wouldn't hurt to have a better eq !!! sorry...i NEEEEED to hear EVERYTHING ! 3. don't know if it's just me...but the dvd takes kinda long to load........

Pros: Affordable, easy to use, good output

Cons: no brightness ctrl, needs to improve on the EQ

    Good for price

Dan from Cincinnati, OH on 4/26/2012

First, for the price, you cannot beat it. So despite my criticism, I'm still very happy with the purchase. So here are the things I would have expected to be better: *desperately needs a brightness control - If you want to watch a movie when the sun is out, you have to tint your windows limo black. The music screens are bright enough that those are okay though. *bluetooth with a blackberry is a little weird. Could be the outdated phone, but pandora switches back to speaker phone output after each song and the onscreen navigation of the phonebook is really slow. The send/rcv calls though is fine...wish there was a volume boost option though. *power on volume memory please! I can't remember the last stereo I had that always turns on with the volume at the same soft setting you can't hear *radio reception is a little weak *1500 file limit on mp3's. For a DVD or CD disk that's fine, but I've got a 16GB SD card that I can only fill to about 6GB. Not sure if that limit applies to the ipod interface...I don't think it does. *some quirky behaviors with the back up camera. This might be partly an install issue since my "reverse" indicator also has power during a keyless entry unlock, but the radio will either get stuck on camera mode or shuts off when I put it in drive. I disabled the auto backup camera mode and only use it in manual camera mode to check on a trailer I'm hauling, which is great seeing how I can't even see most trailers when the tailgate is up.

Pros: Great value, lots of basic features + DVD player for the price of a CD player.

    Cons: see list above

    great for the price

Cons: Doesnt support droid Thats it

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This unit sounds great in my '05 XB with the stock speakers that are 7 years old. Can't wait to replace the speakers for better quality. It has crashed on me a couple times, but could have been due to some maintenance that needed to be done with the car. Not sure, but I didn't have any issues with the unit that was replaced. The three band EQ is a little disappointing, but there are other options in the main menu to adjust the sound quality beyond the EQ. I only gave it a 4 on Ease, build quality, and coolness because it doesn't come with a remote and I have to buy a separate adapter to watch videos. I knew all this when I bought it, so I am not disappointed. It was worth the price and the sound is great.

Pros: Sound Quality, Price, Ease of Installation

Cons: Display Options, EQ, No Remote, extra cost to watch videos.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I recently purchased this for my 2006 Mazda3. This is a great head unit for the price. As with most electronics you get what you pay for. It has the high quality sound you would expect from an aftermarket stereo but it lacks all of the bells and whistles of a more expensive unit.

Pros: Price, Sound Quality, Touch Screen

Cons: No fancy built in features but you are able to add on later. MP3 function could use a random for all files on "disc" instead of root folder as well.

    Works Good - Looks Good

Even though the unit would not fit my dash correctly. The factory radio was recessed enough that this unit fit flush with the dash and with the wide trim it looks fine. The only problems are the time display needs to be larger and some glare problem.

I would advise anyone looking for an above basic automotive system to consider the Jensen VM9224, I can not give it the max rating because of all the optional equipment required to make it GPS, rear view and Bluetooth ready. I must say if you purchase all of the optional equipment, you can bring your current base auto close to the SYNC and other advance OEM entertainment , communication and information systems. I would also like to mention CRUTCHFIELD included a perfect installation package designed for my vehicle which made installation quick and easy.

    Works great!!!

Contra from San Antonio, Texas on 6/16/2011

I initially purchased the JVC KW-AVX740 for $499 at BB sound was acceptable, the IPOD interface was great the sharpness of the screen was awesome (never play movies), the Bluetooth didnt sync with my Sprint phones ay all...well not entirely anyway I had a Moment (smart phone with Android), it only allowed me to make calls from the deck but hang up from the phone as it never synced correctly so I switched back to my old pre-smart phone, my Exclaim it allowed me to make calles, hang up and recieve calls, but no phonebook... I switched to my LG optimus and couldnt make calles or hang up, all phones used the same protocols and they were the same as the deck called for my brother-in-law has an IPhone 4 and his kids have IPhon 3s and they all worked perfectly in every respect, bought the Jensen... sound is acceptable, the IPOD interface was great the sharpness of the screen is acceptable (never play movies anyway), but the bluetooth works perfectly!!! as a bonus the IPOD interface is in the rear and works great!!! and I still get a SD aswell as USB slot up front, plus it costs less so to recap the only thing I lost from going to the Jensen from my JVC was the sharpness of the screen (remember I don't watch movies so havent even tested it yet) and ability to change button colors aswell as text/backgroung (and higher end name brand) the gains are bluetooth and 2 USB inputs one rear and one front, plus it costs less

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This unit looked appealing because of the price tag but its so terrible I want to cry. The sound quality from my stock unit was better. The interface is so poor and ugly, there's a reason why there is so few screenshots of it on the web. It has a 3 band EQ, are you kidding jensen? The J link for the iphone is awful. It wont play videos or display pics. The nav unit is worse. So slow and really poor looking. This thing is basically a playskool "My first Double Din". Do yourself a favor, spend a few hundred more for a legit brand and get something you can be happy with. This thing is making me miserable every day. The worst part is after all the ordering and installing and tweaking, now im stuck with it, unless i want to go through the whole process again. What a nightmare.

    Great product for the price

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I just recently purchased this product, and the install was pretty simple. The touch screen is very accurate. I owned a previous jensen model The UV9 and the vm9224 is way better. The double din size fit perfectly into my impala 07. The dash kit was by far the easiest dash kit i have every put together was only four parts took really only 4mins to put that together. I also previously owned the Nav102 which is a great addition to this jensen model radio, but if you don't previously own the nav 102 i would buy one with a built in navi instead. i also have a sony 1200 watt class d competition amp hooked up to the radio, and the EQ on the radio works great with the amp i can control the bass of the amp right through the radio. The start up of the radio is pretty good takes about 5sec for the radio to boot up, and about 10sec for the nav to boot. For the price and features this radio has i would recommend this to everyone. I haven't used the sd or usb slots so i'm not sure how good those work, or the bluetooth. I do know on the UV9 the USB slot didn't work to good for music. The steering wheel control adpater worked great on this radio. The aux port on the front works great i usually use this with my zune. Programing radio stations is only two buttons, and to have the navigation running while listening to music is only a one button push unlike the UV9 i had before.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

U.I. Interface is dull... not exciting at all... and Very BRIGHT at night with no real dimming capabilities... so much it reminds me of the old '80's movies at night with a light under the dash shining up so you can see the actors faces!! Response is good, but features are basic. It so far has done everything correct in changing between modes, yet sometimes loading SD card is slow and there is no way to organize what is displayed on SD card (i.e. group by artist, album, genre, etc). Overall a good product that will work, but will not impress.

    Lower End Reciever

GaigeK from Orlando, FL on 2/5/2011

This is not what I would call a mid to high-end receiver. The first one they sent was defective, not Crutchfield's fault. Crutchfield sent out another one the next day, was very understandable, and helped me with all my issues. A++ But as for the receiver, spend the extra money and go with a Pioneer. I sent this back and upgraded to the Pioneer AVH-3300BT. I am incredibly happy with its quality.

    Nice looking unit

    AlonzoC from Beltsville on 1/4/2011

Just got this unit in my car about a week ago, it works really nice. Got Bluetooth, and steering wheel control to go along with this they both work really well. Sad about losing my Honda arm rest usb for playing my ipod, but this works ok. * Have not figured out how to make this remember my last location when playing iPod music after turning the car off, also loses DVD info when you remove it, and sometimes when you turn the car off. * Battery in remote may confuse some, one set of metal leads should be below the battery and the other lead should be above the battery. I would suggest this to a friend.

This is a decent receiver for the money. However, I wish I went a different way with another one. The first one sent to me was defective and now that I have one that works, I'm okay with it but it didn't quite hit the mark. However, the people at Crutchfield have been unbelievable! I don't think I have EVER received better customer service! These people know their craft well and I highly recommend to purchase from them!

    Good but a few points

Jim from Fort Collins co on 9/19/2010

I bought this screen a week ago. Simply this is a great product. Solid, well made. All the good features I need The pros Touch screen plenty of features pretty cheap for a touch screen ability to upgrade to navigation all wires are intelligently modular (the connectors are all grouped and you can take out the one you working on) The cons "turn on parking break to view this video." Legal nanny-ing. It's probably required by law ( the cop I talked to today doesn't agree with that.. but..)It's not just the turn on a parking break to view a movie.. I tossed in a SD card with 4 gbs of songs. Nope turn on break. I trued using my roommates iPod, didn't really work, but I'm a zune guy.. I rather use the SD card... so that worries me, but I'm sure it would work if I played with it more. aux in on the back didn't work for me. You also loose all your GUIs like oh the EQ on that screen. The limitation with aux in is you lose like half your speaker inputs, so I loose my base. Not a reflection of the receiver, but they could have added a sub emulator software.. Over all Sure it doesn't do all I want, but for this price, you get everything you pay for. If I had the money and all my knowledge now, would I buy it again? Of course! Go to the 200 range and you don't even have a touch screen or a single one of these features I'm complaining about not working 100%.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Ordered this receiver with free shipping and received it 3 days later!! Installed it in my 06 Pontiac G6 without onstar. The install was tough because of the panels you have to take out to get to the deck, however, the master sheet was precise and made it a lot easier to do. The receiver is great for dvds and it gives a nice audio boost to my factory speakers. The touchscreen is nice and covenient. I would recommend this receiver for anyone that wants a nice system without shelling out a bunch of money. I'm very satisfied with Crutchfield. Go with them if you want a great experience and a competitive price!!

2-DIN Chassis: The Jensen VM9224 has a 2-DIN chassis (also known as Double DIN or size DD), and will fit in many vehicles with a large dash opening. The unit can be ISO-mounted using factory brackets, or Euro-mounted using the supplied mounting sleeve.

Note: As always, please consult the Crutchfield Car Selector to verify fit with your vehicle.

6.2" Touchscreen Display: The Jensen VM9224 features a fixed 6.2" wide, 16:9 touchscreen display with a TFT active matrix system. The screen has a resolution of 800x3 (H) x 234 (V) with 1,152,000 total pixels. This unit has touchscreen controls with interactive video graphics, making menu navigation easy. The unit has a front-loading disc-slot to make loading your disc easier, because there is no panel to slide or fold-down.

Aspect Ratio: You can choose from the following aspect ratio modes for the unit's integrated monitor:

    • Full: The entire screen is extended horizontally to the aspect ratio of 16:9.
    • Normal: The conventional display image has a 4:3 aspect ratio of horizontal to vertical, leaving a blank area on the right and left sides of the display.

PRK SW: For safety reasons, you cannot view a video source on the built-in monitor as long as the vehicle is in motion. In order to display video, the supplied pink wire must be hardwired into the vehicle's parking brake light circuit, and the vehicle's parking brake must be engaged. The pink parking brake wire is used to connect to your parking brake light wire (video on the LCD monitor can only be displayed when this unit's pink PRK SW wire senses that the parking brake has been engaged in the vehicle).

Hard-Key Controls: In addition to the unit's LCD touch-panel controls, the VM9224 also features hard-key controls on the left edge of the screen. The unit offers a rotary volume control, source button, NAV button, and eject button.

12 or 24 Hour Clock: You can set the unit to display a 12 or 24 hour clock.

Anti-Theft Feature: The VM9224 is equipped with an anti-theft feature requiring you to enter a 6-digit password upon initial power-on.

    Audio Section

    D/A Converter: The VM9224 is equipped with a high-performance 24-bit, 192kHz digital-to-analog converter with a multi-bit Sigma-Delta modulator.

CEA2006 Compliant: The power specifications for the VM9224 are compliant with the CEA2006 Mobile Amplifier Power Testing and Measurement standards from the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA). These standards were developed as a way to equitably compare power specs from model to model and between manufacturers. The power output specs for the VM9224 are as follows:

    • CEA2006 Specs:13 watts RMS x 4 channels (at 4 ohms, 20Hz-20kHz, 1% THD-N)
    • Maximum Power Output: 40 watts x 4 channels (160 watts total)

5-Channel Audio Preamp Outputs: This unit has five audio preamp outputs (stereo Front, stereo Rear, and mono Sub). In addition, the subwoofer preamp output has an adjustable low pass crossover (80/120/160Hz), and level adjustment (-14 to 0).

Start Volume: You can set the head unit to turn-on to the last volume level adjustment when turned off, or turn-on to a pre-defined volume level every time you power up the radio.

Preset EQ: Preset EQ curves are stored into memory, allowing you to recall the best setting for different types of music. You may choose from the following presets: Acoustic, Urban, Rave, Latin, Dance, Hip Hop, Rock, or User.

3-Band EQ: In the User EQ mode, you are able to manually adjust the level of the head unit's Bass, Midrange, and Treble (+/-14).
