Our take on the Jensen VM9410

Jensen's VM9410 DVD/CD player offers plenty of sought-after mobile video features at a price that won't break the bank. It features a retractable, motorized 7" monitor that acts as both display for your movies and system control guide.

Jensen's VM9410 DVD/CD player offers plenty of sought-after mobile video features at a price that won't break the bank. It features a retractable, motorized 7" monitor that acts as both display for your movies and system control guide.

The receiver is designed to be the brains of your mobile video system's operation. It offers audio/video inputs for more gear, such as your favorite video game console. If you hook up a backup camera, you can even set the screen to switch over to the rear view when you put your vehicle in reverse.

An audio/video output lets you take advantage of dual-zone entertainment. Hook up a rear monitor and a set of wireless headphones — you can listen to the radio up front as you drive, while the folks in back enjoy their videos in privacy.

A joystick control and a rotary volume knob help you make system adjustments. Two convenient remotes are included for multi-zone mode: one for the front (primary source) and one for the rear (secondary source).

Your music will sound great, thanks to the five preset tone curves and bass-boost settings. And if you want 6-channel theater-style sound, you can hook up the appropriate external amplifiers and speakers to the front, rear, center, and subwoofer preamp outputs.

Unlike most DVD receivers, this one has no hideaway box to contend with. You make all connections right at the back of the receiver, which simplifies your installation. For a great mobile video system, this Jensen receiver may just be the right one for you.

I've had this for about a month and it works well so far. The monitor does act up when it is extreamly cold out, however everything else is great for this price range. If you don't have a lot of money to spend then this is a great buy, i'm very satisfied.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

So far I've enjoyed the head unit...and so have my 2 boys. The installation in my F150 was pretty easy. The only complaints I have are that the volume and joystick knob are rather small and some of the FM stations do not come in clear like my stock head unit. But all in all, worth the money I paid for it.

Too many problems - not worth the low price

nalvarez from Gainesville, VA on 1/14/2006

Purchased unit 4 months ago for my 99 Isuzu VX after the factory changer died for the 2nd time. Hadnt seen an in-dash DVD player for such a low price before, and after reading so many good reviews (what gives?), decided to purchase it. Purchased new (not from Crutchfield) and installed it with factory mounts.
Whats wrong with it:

1. The "loud" setting (base boost) is broken. When you press certain buttons like mute/unmute, or prev/next track, the base drops out temporarily until you adjust the volume again. Exact behavior is different with music CD vs. mp3 data CD. Its a firmware bug. Recently added a powered subwoofer, so now I dont use the base boost.

2. When playing CD tracks or MP3s, the unit skips once every 10-20 minutes. Thats totally unacceptable in this day and age. Yesterday, I was playing this unit with my truck parked in my garage and the engine off, and it skipped on every other track (CD was new and plays fine in everything else).

3. Aux video input doesnt work for some video sources. Sounds ridiculous but true. Maybe I need to add a signal booster or something. Works for most devices though.

4. LCD panel (displayed when the screen is retracted) is impossible to read in broad daylight. Easy to read at night though.

5. The little knob on the right side is frustrating to use. Its hard to tilt the knob left or right to skip tracks without accidentally pushing it in and pausing it.

6. High-pitched fan noise from the unit is somewhat annoying.

Called Jensen tech support and was told to exchange unit. Got a replacement which has the same problems. Bottom line, you should spend a little more money and get a decent

This is a great unit. The only thing I don't like is the small knobs on it. Other than that it is very good and easy to install.
