Great Sound, Amazing Price

Cade from East Troy, WI on 10/6/2017

1996 Chevrolet Blazer

Good sound, really nice highs and good mids too. There's enough mid bass but you'll definitely want a subwoofer to pick up the low frequencies these just can't reach. Installation is easy, as long as you know how to remove your door panels. These don't require an amp if you have a decent aftermarket head unit.

Pros: Great overall sound, nice design, easy to install, no additional installations needed (like and amp or wiring for example), plug and play.

Cons: Quiet, will need louder volume. (Lower gain on subwoofer amp to get even sound)

Used these to replace the factory speakers in my Arctic fox R.V. , what a difference ! There isn't alot of bass from these but you shouldn't expect boom from a 5 1/4" speaker. For the price these are a good looking and sounding speaker.

This has to be the best online store in the world. The speakers I bought were replacements for twenty year old factory car speakers. Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Kenwood as always produces great bang for your buck! These are the cheapest pair available and for the price per pair to replace stock garbage they are well worth the money! Just put 4 new Kenwood KFC-1365S 5 1/4" 2 ways in my wifes 1997 Yukon and they sound pretty darn good, I do however agree with a lot of the reviewers that they provide great highs and decent mids, but they are not a real bass producing punchy type of speaker. Overall satisfied with the sound quality!

Pros: Quick easy install! Sounds pretty good for the price of replacement speakers!

Cons: Doesn't give the punchy bass that you might think that they would.

I have a 2012 Mazda 3i Touring with 6 speakers. I chose the Kenwood speakers to replace the 2 front door lower speakers because they had the highest sensitivity. Unfortunately, the bass quality was significantly worse than the stock speakers. I verified my connections to make sure the polarity was correct and even tried reversing the connections to see if that had any impact. No luck.

2011 Hyundai Santa Fe
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought these speakers for my Daughters Santa fe limited with the infinity system. If I know the 6" speakers would have fit too but I went for price and what I knew. I installed these in my Chevy Traverse and liked them very much. I made sure i had every tool I needed when I went over to her house, but forgot my drill to drill out the pop rivets that held the factory speakers on the door. Borrowed hers. this is a Murphy's law thing. The hardest part is removing the door panels but after the third the fourth is a piece of cake. I removed all of the panels while waiting for drill battery to charge. Mounting the speakers in the plastic adapters would have been easier if the screws were bigger as the temperature was around 40 F and my fingers were very cold. BTW the speaker harness connects to the speaker on the back of the speaker as you know, but the adapter doesn't have a access hole to bring back to the top side of door panel to connect to harness. so I had to make one., It would also be nice if there were extra door panel mounting posts available in the loading of the cart on the website as others things like the door panel tool does as you will most likely break a few of them. The instructions were great and the harness supplied were also great that I didn't have to cut into the harness

Pros: the sound is very good for the money

Cons: I would have wished I went with 6" as they would have fit and that was what was in the car from factory

2010 Mazda 3
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

After replacing my stock cheap paper 5x7 speakers in my Mazda 3 with these Kenwood units I was a little disappointed. My stock speakers had much more bass and sounded more rich than these Kenwood speakers. My stock speakers have really nice electrical connectors and really nice built in spacer plate. These speakers like many other speakers used a couple of spade type connectors and I had to use a plastic spacer mounted on the speaker for installation. There were multiple speaker wires on my stock speakers yet there were no instructions on how to connect them.I like the stock installation much better.

Pros: They look like a quality speaker

Cons: Not much bass

Nothing good to say about these

Anonymous from Cypress, TX on 1/17/2017

2005 Honda Civic
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Where to start...Thin tin-ish sound that does not project. No mid bass, no bass, and vocal quality is in line with what I would expect from a 1980's era shoulder-held boom box. Two weeks before I installed these, I faded the radio to 100% rear so I could get an accurate delta after I installed these. Before the install I could hear easily while on the road at volume setting 6. With these installed I had to turn volume to setting 9 to produce the same db level. I couldn't make out lead guitar parts, and the bass line was muddled and buzzy. These are worse than the Honda Civic OEMs which are now 12 years old. I have returned these and will try out the Polk DB522.

Pros: Crutchfield provided harnesses and adapters. Easy install

Cons: Poor db level despite 90 db Sensitivity. Sounds distant. No mids. No bass. Weak vocals

Good value, good sound

Great sound for the money. Excellent highs and mid, a little weak on bass when compared to the aged factory speakers I replaced in my 2000 Jeep Cherokee, but I'm OK with that since I'll soon be adding a mild sub anyway. Overall, I would recommend these speakers to a friend and would buy them again if needed.

My wife's car had a bad front door speaker. a Factory replacement speaker was about $60. I ordered these for about half the price of the one speaker. The install is easy, and they fit nice. The master sheet has decent instructions. The only real drawback was that the wiring adapters do not have provisions for the factory tweeters. Not a big deal, it's an easy fix. They sound nice so far.

Pros: Nice sound, easy install. Good Fit.

Cons: The wiring adapters that come with the speakers do not have provisions for the factory tweeter connection. Not a big deal. Nothing a couple of butt connectors can't take care of,

This is a nice little speaker that packs a punch. I blew my factory speakers in my rear doors and required replacement speakers. I went with the Kenwood KFC-1365S mainly because of the price and awesome reviews. I was quite impressed that these speakers came complete with everything that I needed to include wiring harness and speaker mounting adapters. DIY installation took all of 10 mins per door. I was very happy with the end result and the sound quality from this trusted brand.

Pros: Everything in the package is a pro. Wiring harness Speaker adapter

Cons: May have to drill hole using the speaker adapter if not a direct fit. Really not a big deal or a con, but if there were a con; that would be it

Quality speaker for the price. Very crisp sounding, but like a lot of the other reviews say they do not have much bass. The only thing that upset me was that Crutchfield said they would fit perfectly in my car without needing a new speaker harness, well they were wrong. Luckily I had ordered another set of speakers from them that came with a harness. I did not use the harness to secure the other speakers as they fit fine in the rear pannel. I was able to use the harness provided by those to secure the speakers in the door. Little upset with Crutchfield as it seems their motto is they help you find the perfect fit for your car. But overall a decent speaker, not much bass.

Pros: you get what you pay for, quality speaker.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I thought these speakers were going to be disappointing. Soon after installation I noticed that they seemed to have low power handling. They would easily distort like a cheaper speaker. However, the more I play them the better they sound! I guess there really is a break-in period for speakers after all. They have excellent midrange. They aren't going to completely amaze you with their bass. Consider that they are five and a quarter inches after all. I'm still waiting to purchase a ten inch woofer or two which I will drop into a custom made cabinet.

Pros: Midrange and treble clarity.

Cons: Too small for my door. I fabricated a wooden bracket to help seal them into the door for better sound.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

excellent mid and high, very disappointed in low end. I replaced the four stock 5.25" speakers in doors and back panels of my Odyssey. These speakers are a about 1/2" smaller than stock. Understanding these are not woofers by any stretch, but at 40 Hz I was expecting better bass than the crap stock speakers. I was disappointed, the stock speakers have far more bass with 1/4 the size coil. I don't know how they do it, but the stock speakers actually sounded better down low.

Pros: very crisp sounding mids/highs, fit stock locations with Crutchfield awesome included adapters.

Cons: horribly/non-existent "bass" compared to stock junk speakers. now either put the stock back in or look into a powered sub, not something I wanted to tackle at this stage of my vehicles life.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I think it important when reviewing a product you compare it to the price and your expectation. I spend roughly 20-30 minutes of my day in my care on average. I can't justify a huge expenditure on car audio with so little time spent in my vehicle. I purchased these, some kenmore for the rear door along with a new JVC head unit, in the expectation that I could upgrade my entire system from stock for roughly 200$. I was right. The sound over stock is a huge improvement in my 2013 mazda 3 sport. The speakers shouldn't be used for bass, the bass is ok though, but drives down the rest of the audio. If you care about bass you need a subwoofer. But for rock, some rap, and talk radio, these provide excellent audio for the price. 0 complaints

All i can say is wow. I paired these guys with the same series Kenwood 6 1/2 speakers and the sound ordnance bp8 in the suburban and i couldn't be happier. These little guys give a world of high tones yet still let you feel the rich sound of some mid range and bass frequencies. Great buy for the money.

Pros: Fit directly in the door without the use or need of a bracket.

Cons: The mounting plate where the terminals are seems a little flimsy. As long as you are careful and use your other set of fingers to brace it, you're fine. Shouldn't even matter as long as you can use some common sense.

IT IS OBVIOUS THE QUALITY IS SUPERIOR TO THAT OF THE ORIGINAL. INSTRUCTIONS SHOULD BE REVIEWED BEFORE INSTALLATION AS THE RING SUPPLIED IS NECESSARY FOR 2008 DAKOTA DOORS. REUSE THE PERIMETER DOUBLE-SIDED FOAM AND NO NEED FOR THE NICE SCREEN SENT FOR EACH. SOUND IS PERFECT FOR THE TRUCK'S CAB.

Pros: FORM, FIT, FUNCTION IS IDEAL.

Cons: NOT REALLY ANY CONS. WORKS GREAT AND TAKES VERY LITTLE TIME TO INSTALL.

Bass Distortion like crazy

FrankG from Houston, TX on 7/19/2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I would ONLY recommend these speakers if you have a way to filter out any bass frequencies and use separate speakers to fill out that low range. The speakers have decent mid-level response, but man oh man.. bass sounds horrible. Believe it or not, but my factory, paper speakers sounded better than these when songs with bass came on. Really crappy. I swapped them back out with my factory speakers and returned them to Crutchfield. Definitely avoid if you are in a simple audio installation with speakers in 4 doors that handle all the audio and the speakers handle all the ranges - these speakers don't handle low frequencies at all! Wish I had known before I bought them. Again, only consider these if you will be going through a crossover and only passing mids and highs through them.

Pros: Mids and Highs sound pretty crisp

Cons: Bass sounds horrible through these speakers.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Aside from the holes not lining up (and we were warned, so not a big surprise), the only thing that was problematic was the foam cushions not being available for the speakers. We were able to work around this, but these definitely would have been handy. Other than that, the speakers work well and were easy for my friend to put in place. Some double sided, padded scotch tape adhesive did help to end what little distortion there was from not having the liners, and all sounds fantastic.

Pros: Nice sound, easy to install.

Cons: Holes don't line up, so drill is necessary. Baffles unavailable.

Better than blown speakers but not great

ppr from Michigan on 5/21/2015

Bought to replace blown rears on my Odyssey van. They are definitely better than blown speakers but they cannot handle the bass output of the Honda stock receiver. I had to turn bass down to +1/+2 to keep them from overdriving. Another review mentioned harsh highs and mids, which is also an issue w/this speaker. If I had a different head unit or ability to EQ the front/rear speakers differently, they might be a good contender for their price range. My van only has bass/treble so I ended up fading the front speakers up more to keep the rears from getting as much volume. Fine with me since I'm usually the only passenger and my kid uses the headset for the rear DVD so the speakers are usually Off on a long trip or family drive. I bought them because "cheap speakers was better than blown or No speakers..." so that was certainly my expectation. Defintely don't get these if bass/low end is a Must for you out of this pair. I'm a semi-pro audio engineer and while sound quality is usually a high item on my list, it really came down to replacing the factory speakers with something decent for the lowest price possible. A disappointment in Kenwood but so far they are getting the job done.

Pros: Easy install Compatible with existing factory grilles Basic speaker at a low price

Cons: Low end and bass tends to distort, even at medium volumes or medium bass EQ Tweeters are overpowering in the 4k-8k frequency range, but could be corrected with decent EQ

these do get very loud but the tweeter is very harsh at moderate volumes if the treble is up at all. These speakers are very clean below half volume but anything higher and they sound like swap meet speakers even with the bass turned down, mids are lacking which surprised me, a snare drum is not snappy at all, this speaker is pretty much just like a giant tweeter. I am running them off of a jvc head unit but I will be getting some polks soon to replace these. Do yourself a favor and shell out the extra 20-30 dollars and get something better. the only good thing really is they have really nice grills and seem to be made well overall.

Pros: well made, nice grills , shallow mount, super light and easy to install

For the price, these speakers are an amazing value. I installed them as rear speakers in my 1996 BMW Z3. They have a fairly shallow mounting depth, a plus for me. Overall, the sound is full and does not favor either treble or bass. There is some bass, but this is not a substitute for a subwoofer. I would recommend them without hesitation, regardless of the value!

Pros: Consistent full range sound. Good cardboard template on the box. Awesome value!

Cons: No speaker wires - only 3" terminal connectors. If you are looking for heavy bass, this is not your speaker.

Good Sounding Speaker for the Money

Brandon S. from Orange County, CA on 8/16/2014

2004 Jeep Wrangler
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Let me preface this by stating that I have been using Kenwood products for a number of years - in previous and current vehicles. These were purchased as part of a set for my wife's 2004 Jeep Wrangler Sport with soft-top and roll-bar speakers. For the front in-dash speakers I used Kenwood KFC-4675C - the two have a real good balance together. Why did I pick these? Compared to other speakers at this price-point, they had the best range: 40-22kHz. These actually replaced a set of blown-out JVC speakers that had a frequency response of 20-24kHz, but they came with the car and were of unknown age. Installation was very easy. Kenwood things easier by supplying new brackets and screws. The face-plates/shields for the speakers line up PERFECTLY on the mounting flanges of the speakers, so you're not sitting there trying to line everything up for an hour. However the face-plates are a bit over-sized. If you are not flush-mounting these to a door you may experience issues with the face-plates not fitting into recessed openings. The sound is great for a mid-range speaker. I am not running a sub-woofer or amp in the system and for my wife (who drives this the most) the sound is clear and audible even when freeway driving (soft-top Jeep, remember?) Not too much of a punch/kick to these on full bass but well-rounded for low-mid range speakers. AND I can trust the quality.

Pros: - Good kit hardware. - Face-plates line up with the speaker mounts - Great customer service - Good quality for the price - Durable

Cons: - Over-sized face-plates

SPeakers for Volvo

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Needed speakers for an old 1994 Volvo. Crutchfield very good at finding speakers that fit well, easy to install, and at a good price point given the age of the car and abuse my kids would contribute. BIg Box store had installed other name brand speakers in the front, and I saw it was not to challenging, and installed easily. And the speakers at near the same price point sound much better than the fronts. Might actually replace the fronts also if the car doesn;'t disintegrate first (300K miles and going strong)

Pros: Easy to install, good fit, good value.

Cons: Might be the last thing left standing in the car. If anyone is looking for a couple of doors with speakers for a 94 Volvo wagon.....

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Used these to replace the factory installs on my 04 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited. This was my first car audio replacement on my own and it couldn't have been easier. The speakers fit everything perfectly and sound so much better than the old factory ones. FYI I also used Kenwood KFC-1065S for the other speakers in my Jeep and switched the receiver out for Kenwood Excelon KDC-X597.

Pros: Great sound for great price Easy drop-in relacement

Cons: none

Replaced the blown door speakers in my 92 cherokee. Cant go wrong for the price. Very good sound quality and decent bass for a 5 1/4". Only downside is the speaker isnt super loud so you need to turn up the radio a little more. Overall very pleased with my purchase. Thanks to Crutchfield for the free radio install kit and shipping.

Pros: Cheap. Good sound quality.

Cons: A little weak so it needs to be turned up more.

These speakers are great for the price. I was a little skeptical of them because the are so cheap but I was blown away. When you first plug them in and get them set up the are a little crackley but once you get the headunit settings tuned in they sound great. I put them in my front and rear doors then I put a bazooka bta850fh bass tube in the trunk and with that extra bass boost they sound amazing.

Pros: Easy to set up and easy to install

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Good sound, easy installation in existing 1997 Honda Accord OEM speaker shroud/bracket.

Pros: Great fit in OEM speaker shroud/bracket.

Cons: Supplied screws were too long for OEM speaker shroud/bracket. OEM speaker 3 screws vs. 4 screws for Kenwood, so I used #8 X 1/2" sheet metal screws. Crutchfield-supplied speaker wiring harness too long, zip-tied the excess so it wouldn't interfere with fully rolled down window.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Bought the speaker to replace a blown stock speaker. Unfortunately the stock configuration was for component speakers so the 2-way speaker provided far to much high end. Speaker sounded fine but had too strong of highs for my application. I replaced it with a component pair minus the tweeters and order is restored to the universe.

2005 GMC Sierra 1500
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought these to replace 2 front door speakers in a 2005 GMC Sierra. The speakers were blown out when I got the truck. When I chose these Kenwood KFC-1365S speakers from Crutchfield as replacements, I noticed that they had a repacked pair for sale, possibly a return for a lower price. After thinking it over, I decided that a deal is a deal and it was worth a try. I was not disappointed. The speakers sound new, look new and work like new. Installation was very simple. On this particular truck, there was one extra bolt that wasn't on the installation sheet that needed to be removed to get the door panel off, but it was easy to spot behind the inside door handle. I had both speakers in and the door panels back on in about an hour. There were speaker clips in the package, but for this door installation, where the speakers would be front loaded, I only needed to screw the speakers to the front of the bracket, use the wiring harness to connect the speaker and wire and snap the bracket into place.

Replacement for e39 deck speakers not recommended

e39 Owner from North Carolina on 2/22/2014

2000 BMW 5 Series
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought these to replace the stock deck speakers in a 2000 BMW 540i (e39). After the installation, I found them to be very flat with almost no low end whatsoever, so I put my 14-year old stock speakers back in since they sounded much better. Crutchfield accepted my request to return them and sent me a pre-paid UPS return shipping slip. While I did not like the speakers, Crutchfield customer support remains excellent as always. Note that the Master Sheet for an e39 for these speakers says you just need to pop off the speaker grills to replace them. This is not the case. You need to remove the back seat and deck to replace the speakers.

Pros: Drop-in replacement, excellent customer service

Cons: Poor sound quality, flat with not much low-end at all.

My honest opinion, no. Focal speakers are very high quality speakers that i don't think make head unit. I bought the Kenwoods because it is an improvement from the OEM that came with my truck. I wanted crisper less distortion sound. Hope this helps. Good luck. [ JOSE  Oct 30, 2015 ]
