Affordable upgrade

Kenwood's KFC-6965S 6"x9" speakers are designed to increase your car's sound quality without decreasing your bank roll. Install these budget-friendly speakers in place of your factory 6"x9" speakers, and their 3-way design will open a wide soundstage for all your tunes. Their high efficiency also lets them work effortlessly with your stock or aftermarket radio power. With 45 watts of RMS power handling, you can even add an amp for a bigger sound.

Tough and responsive

Kenwood uses a durable polypropylene woofer with a treated cloth surround, so the KFC-6965S speaker keeps pumping out the bass even through the harsh conditions in a car. Add a 2" PEI cone tweeter and a 1/2" ceramic supertweeter to the mix, and you'll get a smooth transition between your music's highs and lows. Grilles are included, so you can also use these speakers in a custom installation.

Product Highlights:

  • 3-way 6"x9" speakers (pair)
  • polypropylene woofer with cloth surround
  • 2" PEI cone tweeter 1/2" ceramic supertweeter
  • power range: 2-45 watts RMS (400 watts peak power)
  • frequency response: 30-22,000 Hz
  • sensitivity: 92 dB
  • depth: 3"
  • grilles included
  • warranty: 1 year
  • Our 60-day money-back guarantee

Bought these to replace the blown factory speakers in the rear deck of my Honda Civic. They have great sound, provide great bass without a sub, and they installed into the factory locations flawlessly.

Nice Sound. Good Purchase

Jim from Ft Collins, CO on 8/28/2017

2004 Honda Civic
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Nice speakers.... A total pain in the backside to get them into a Honda Civic Coupe -- but once in, very nice. I uploaded three pictures. The first shows that you have to take the rear seat out. The second shows all the trim on the sides, pillars, and finally the back removed (pay no attention to the amount of stuff my daughter carries in her truck). The third is with the rear completely put back together -- no extra parts. :) Thanks Crutchfield for a great set of instructions!

Pros: The price was excellent. Spot-on Crutchfield installation instructions. Clarity was very very good.

Cons: Was not prepared to be in the back of that civic coupe for so long. Had to take out half the back but that is a Honda thing. :)

Replaced factory speakers on my 2011 altima with these. I am using factory stereo and these speakers do the job. Decent sound without stressing out factory stereo. Not direct fit, but easy to modify to fit. I was only able to screw in 3 screws, 1 went in a bit slanted.. but not speaker fault.

Pros: Good sound quality. Low price.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great bang for buck, excellent stock speaker replacement for rear stock speakers. Rule of thumb I go by, spend good money for front speakers, rear speakers you can get away with cheaper models if a sub is going to be installed.

Pros: Great sound, honestly the rear stock speakers where quite adequate, but for ease of mind I replaced with these to avoid blowing them with new aftermarket head unit (Pioneer AVIC-5100NEX)

Cons: Not free Didn't install themselves

Decent Sound

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I would actually give it a 3.5, just short of four star rating. The speakers sound good in my BMW. I paired these up with the Clarion XC1410 compact amp. They definitely complement each other. It was a bit disappointing when I seen the size of the magnet but reminded myself these are the lower end/priced model. They sound clear, I had to do a little bit extra tuning to get the sound I wanted.

Pros: reasonably priced, decent sound

Cons: small magnet

The Kenwood KFC 6965s were a great match for my original car stereo. I tried other speaker options, the Kenwoods were by far the best. I tested them over the full range of the equalizer. All frequencies responded well. I'm most impressed with the deep, rich bass. The Kenwoods were a great value for the $60.

Cons:

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I replaced my stock speakers in my Toyota Tacoma 2016 SR5 with these babies. Overall, they are a great value and pretty good speakers. The stock head unit/stereo definitely sounds a lot better, but it still lacks the richness of a deluxe sound system. I do not know if this is a result of me not also installing an amp or not.... so they could be 5 stars with an amp... I just don't know. The stock speakers were super-cheap, sounded flat, etc. These were worth the money.

Cons:

The speakers are great! They add a new fullness and dimension to my driving experience.

Pros: Great sound, easy installation

While these might not be the highest rated or have the SNOB appeal of more expensive brands, they are nonetheless a very good, inexpensive upgrade to your old factory speakers. Very easy to install(especially with Crutchfield's install kits) and an immediate improvement in sound quality with my factory radio.

Pros: Easy to install, good value.

Cons: None, really

Good ass speakers

Joe D from Middletown, CT on 2/28/2016

1998 Honda Civic
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Got a pair of these for the rear decks in my '98 civic sedan, and a pair of the kfc 1665s' for the front panels and they sound ridiculous. The highs are a LITTLE harsh for my personal taste but literally just turn them down on your stereo eq n youre mint. The bass is darn good, if youre running head unit power you gotta give em some volume to really get the full effect but if we're talkin hiphop, edm, bass heavy, these things bang with clarity n no distortion.

Pros: Great sound for the price range

Cons: Highs sorta harsh but easily fixed

I recently purchased these speakers for my 2011 Grand Cherokee. I am not happy with the sound quality. I think that they honestly are worse than stock. Great Value & Fit for 2004 Corolla

Steve from California on 4/28/2015

2004 Toyota Corolla
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased these with the Toyota wire harness (also from Crutchfield) to replace the stock 6x9 speakers in my 2004 Corolla. After removing the stock speakers, it probably only took me 30 minutes to get the new speakers installed. I cut out the speaker template included on the back of the new speaker box, crawled into the trunk and placed the template underneath the rear dash, and marked the 4 holes with a permanent marker. I then used a 13/64" drill bit and drilled out the 8 holes (4 for each speaker) and used the stock 10mm bolts from the stock Toyota speakers to secure the new speakers into place. Although I was unable to get all 4 bolts aligned, I made sure that the 2-3 bolts I had securing each speaker were tight enough to keep the speakers from getting lose. I drilled out the holes from underneath (by crawling into the trunk) because I knew I wouldn't be able to get the drill in position with the obstruction of the rear windshield slant. The wire harness made the speaker connections extremely easy, no soldering required. Just "plug and play." Although the sound quality isn't super great, I suspect that it may be because I'm still running the stock Corolla stereo head unit. I'm planning on replacing that head unit soon and I will update this review if the sound improves.

Pros: Easy install, especially if you buy the wire harness for you car.

Cons: Scores included with these speakers for mounting are a complete joke and impossible to use. The instructions also don't specify what size drill bit to use in order to utilize the included flimsy screws. It was just trial and error until I decided to just use the stock hex bolts from my car's stock 6x9s.

Paired with a new Sony reiever and they sound great together. Plenty of bass, midrange is a bit weak but adjusting the EQ on the receiver compensates nicely. Great sound at a reasonable price.

Cons:

These speakers hit their target

Fred from Pennsylvania on 3/19/2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Haven't had enought time to tune the system to perfection but so far the speakers have solid bass and good highs, the mids are where they sound a bit muffled in the area that I imagine some step up speakers may perform better in. The metal male connections are super thin metal and I bent one tryin to push on a female connecter that was too small. Just seems like a low quality area but managed to make it work.

Pros: Good bass. More than adequate for factory upgrade

Cons: Questionable materials, poor mid response

Good speakers for the money. Took advantage of $50 discount for buying a Kenwood car radio with the front and rear speakers. They are good alternatives to the factory speakers that I had. If you want bass, look elsewhere but, if you listen to music at normal volumes, these will be just fine for you.

Pros: Good price, excellent fit.

Cons: Don't expect the best sound quality. They are good for the money.

bad sound quality

Dan the sound man from alabama on 2/4/2015

I got these know they were cheap but with all the freebies were a good deal. I have them on a 60watt rms sony amp I set the gain with an O scope to not clip the speakers, high pass filter on and they sound muddy. I had to take all the mid level "1k" out just to hear the highs "12.5k" the bass was ok without the filter on, not deep! it's centered around 80h. its more of a mid bass. I'll say better than factory but not much. I'll be getting something better as my bank roll gets fatter but for now they'll have to do.

Pros: a good deal with the free Crutchfield stuff.

Cons: everything about them

Nice speakers for the $. Perfect to upgrade factory components, just go for the kickers or mtx thunder is you plan on pushing with an amp.

Pros: Clean, clear sound at pretty much any volume.

Cons: Not quite the bass that I expected

I replaced the factory rear deck speakers in my 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix GT with these. They made a big difference in the sound of the stock radio / CD player. I could pull out the mids and highs, and they have just the right bass punch. They sounded so good I bought the Kenwood 5 1/2" companion speakers for the front doors. AWESOME !

Pros: Easy peasy install with included Master Sheet. Took me all of 2 hours.

Cons: That I waited so long to do this.

These 6 by 9 speakers were a perfect match for my OEM speakers. When I fired them up the sound was amazing. The bass was ten times better than my factory speakers, made me want to go out " CRUZIN ". No problem handling the power from my Kenwood Radio..

Pros: Adds a little WUMP to your ride, even though it's the family van.....P.S. Even got my wife to crank up the volume...

Cons: none

Easy to install and very capable speakers. These will partner well with a subwoofer but with or without one prepare to blow the roof off.

Pros: Can handle power, loud and crystal clear.

Cons: Slight distortion on the lows, having a sub woofer will help

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Anticipated long day of creating mounting bracket. Pleasantly surprised, it took about 1 hour disassemble, drill holes, reassemble rear deck on Corolla. Installation was a snap. Speakers put out good sound, plenty of power but were not designed to deafen the neighborhood! Not meant for thumping your chest (and I wasn't looking for that), but great for pop/alternative at a comfortable volume.

Pros: Easy installation, good price, good sound

Cons: Not meant for high volume/low bass (which was fine for my taste)

Super Efficient

2014 Jeep Patriot
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Driven by a Naka NA780 I have 4 of these installed in a 2014 Patriot in the doors. A huge leap over the dual cone factory setup. Bass is pretty decent and they thump with anything in their class. Tiny magnets mean efficiency and low power demands. No need to hook up an amp as they would perform well even with a stock radio. If you want to connect an amp get Sony Explodes. Usually marketed as a 4pk. Crutchfield sells them as a pair and therefore double what you would find them for elsewhere. Not by any means a value oriented speaker. You get what you pay for and these are a prime example.

Pros: Dirt Cheap Price Efficient Better than anticipated bass response.

Cons: I paid too much and would have got them cheaper elsewhere.

Got these two days ago for my gas saver a 1999 Civic. I'm really impressed! I've had alpine and a few other nice brands but wasn't expecting much out of these. I bought these with a kenwood dpx300u and got the KFC 61/2s along with the KFC 6/9s for right at $200 because of a $50.00 off deal. The 6x9s alone are awesome. Don't over look these because of the low price. They work great plenty of clarity and mid bass.

Pros: Great sound! Suprising bass!

Cons: None

OK value

Chris B from Little Rock, AR on 8/13/2014

2011 Toyota Corolla
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

First, this is probably not a fair review because my home reference speakers are Bowers and Wilkins bookshelfs arranged into a surround arrangement with a sub, and that system makes me like music I usually hate. However, on the other hand, these speakers went into a Toyota Corolla with one of the worst stock systems I've ever heard or imagined, so the bar was low! The factory speakers were literally paper and plastic with magnets the size of a $2 stack of quarters. I yanked those out and put them in the garbage, and also installed a Kenwood head unit to replace the pathetic 20W stock cd player. Signal is good! It's a world better now, but I now wonder if I should have spent more. These speakers were definitely designed to go with a sub, so in a sub-less 4-speaker system like mine I set the EQ flat and put the dreaded "loudness" on level one. I might experiment more, but the point is they're not perfectly balanced out of the box. More concerning, I just don't feel the sharp (but not too bright) crispness I like from my reference speakers. These speakers seem biased toward emphasizing stringy sounds like guitars, violins, and harmonicas. That said, they're strong on classical music.

Pros: -with the connector supplied by Crutchfield, wiring is easy and foolproof. -covers are not juvenile-looking like so many others.

Cons: -lacks crispness, yet on flat EQ the treble is too high. Compensate for the treble with a sub, EQ settings, loudness, or bass boost. Compensate for the crispness by spending $100 per speaker next time. -no anti-rattle foam along the mounting surface. -no anti-road-noise foam long the front (used weatherstripping after I realized how much louder the road noise was after installing these. That fixed it.).

Wonderful bass

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I never knew how crappy my OEM speakers were until I installed these. All I can say is WOW at the bass and sound coming out of these! The install was a little tight as there an extra little edge around the speakers compared to my Mopar factory units, but not enough to require any trimming. Overall I would highly recommend these to anyone with factory units.

Pros: Very easy install

I put these in my 2008 Tacoma front doors and replaced the factory speakers. Matched them up with a Kenwood deck and they totally blew my mind. Jazz Blues, Rock, Piano music, you name it is like you are right there live. My Son remarked it sounded as good as most home stereo systems. Very pleased and the mounting adapters from Crutchfield made it a breeze.

Yes, always amp up your speakers. Lack of power will blow a speaker quicker than to much power.[ DALLAS  Aug 07, 2015 ]
Suprisingly, they sound much better than factory speakers even without an amp. I've had them installed for about a year with a kenwood stereo, no plans for an amp.[ HENRY  Aug 04, 2015 ]
Hard to say without knowing what "factory" sounds like. I can say this though, these were 100 times better than OEM in the 04 Impala. Even better when we matched them up to a Kenwood head unit.[ ROBERT W  Aug 04, 2015 ]
It depends on what kind of sound your listening for but the RMS of 14 watts is better than stock. I use an amp for my sound but I got two 12" sub to go with it.[ lionel  Aug 04, 2015 ]
