I've always liked Kenwood products and trusted that my past experiences could be relied upon. I was correct.....sort of.

Pros: Affordable, easy to install, easy to set up eq, balance, fade, etc.

Cons: The Blue Tooth is a pain in the butt. It doesn't reconnect even though it's programmed to reconnect automatically. The Blue Tooth doesn't recognize the audio source very quickly at all.

Easy to install with the harness and dash adapter kit. Took no time at all and setup of bluetooth for my wife's phone was a snap. The hand's free feature works well and is easy to use.

    Pros: Easy setup. Sounds good.

Kenwood Has Improved Usability on Their Receiver

Steve from Southern California on 5/4/2015

    2004 Toyota Corolla
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this with the dash kit and wiring harness for my 2004 Toyota Corolla and I had it installed within an hour and a half. Following the included (Crutchfield) instructions along with the assistance of a YouTube video made install fairly easy. I'm very pleased with the sound quality this receiver offers. Definitely can hear a difference from the stock radio. I previously upgraded the rear speakers (6x9) in this Corolla so I'm sure that helped improve the overall sound quality too. I'm now considering upgrading my front door speakers. I had a similar Kenwood receiver in my previous car and the audio menus were extremely complicated and not user friendly. I'm glad that has been improved in this newer model. Crutchfield tech support also was super fast and helpful with helping me get the rear speakers to work in Bluetooth mode.

Pros: Very easy to operate. I didn't even have to look in the owner's manual.

Cons: None so far. It's only been installed for a few hours.

    Awesome, especially for the price

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I'm very happy with this deck. Just changing this out from the original stereo made a huge difference in the sound and loudness of the system. The wiring harness made the install VERY simple and I was able to have this installed in my car in under an hour. Back 25 years ago or so it would take me almost all day to install a system. The Bluetooth and USB jack are great to sync with your phone and play your own music. I did have to call tech support as I was having issues with some radio stations. They were very quick to figure out the problem, even before I finished the explanation.

Pros: Great price and value. Good power range to drive speakers properly. Tech Support.

    Cons: None

Pros: Great sound quality. The kenwood head unit fits nicely in dash. Instructions were clear and easy to follow.

Cons: The metra dash kit didn't fit exactly how it should. The screws that were sent didn't have a purpose.

I worked with a sales rep to get the best radio for my RV that would do what I wanted at a good price. I did. replacing my old kenwood with this one took ten minutes and no tools except the ones provided with the radio. I have bought from Crutchfield before and will again.

Pros: ease of installation, clarity of sound and value. Plus you know you can call on their tech team for help, no strings.

    Cons: NONE!

Basic features and not overly complicated, no color options for the display and the scroll function is not good. The sound quality is better than the one she had but that unit was 12 years old. I know Kenwood has better units for a few dollars more. Granted it was not expensive (and supposedly that was a markdown) thought I'd be getting better quality than I got.....

Pros: all said in my review

Great, Hard to Read in Sun Tho

    Jon from Texas on 4/13/2015

This thing is great, and was pretty easy to install too, after watching a couple of youtube videos and learning to solder. Crutchfield made it pretty easy by having links to whatever other accessories I needed. The one downside is that it's pretty difficult to read the display in the bright sunlight. You can shield it with your hand & read it though, but it's a bit cumbersome. Otherwise it's a great unit. Sounds great, iphone ipod integration seems good, and it works w/ internet radio apps, including tune-in. Recomend.

Pros: Sound, color, usb, hd radio, app integration, works with tune-in / pandora / spotify, iphone integration

Cons: can't really read the display in bright sunlight, at night it makes the rest of my dash look cheap & old

    2000 Toyota 4Runner
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This receiver sounds so much better than the stock unit in my 4runner. It's night and day. For a first time installer, it was also really easy to put in. The Bluetooth is awesome. It synced right up and couldn't be easier to use. When it's plugged in via USB, the controls aren't as intuitive. The BT phone controls are also taking some time to get used to. It's like going from a Mac to a PC. It works great once you figure out all the steps, but it's not as simple. My major gripe is that the buttons are super bright and don't dim like the display screen does. It's distracting for night driving. Hopefully I'll get used to it.

Pros: Value, sound, Bluetooth, easy to install

Cons: Really bright buttons, controls aren't intuitive

    2005 Toyota Corolla
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Bought this unit as a birthday present for my 18-year-old son, for a 2005 Toyota Corolla. Install went very smoothly, we did it together and took about 1 hour total. A couple of tips: (1) need a 1' antenna coupler (not originally included with order) to keep the antenna lead from pulling out of the back of the stereo, and (2) make sure to run the cord for the microphone prior to re-installing the trim. We originally forgot, and had to remove the trim (just took a couple of minutes).

Pros: Easy, straightforward install (great instructions). Lots of features at an affordable price.

Cons: During initial install, the antenna lead from the car disconnected from the back of the new stereo. Turns out the lead is way too short. Had to go out and buy a 1' antenna coupler, works great now.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is by far, the Best head unit I have ever bought from Crutchfield! Installed this unit in wife's Escort, she likes to use a USB to listen to her style of music. What got me is the tuner. I'm picking up stations that are at least 50-75 miles away and they come in clear! Very easy to set up, clock, tone, etc. Like the display(time), very easy to see in the daylight. The only thing I don't like is you can't change the display color. I just bought a Kenwood three months ago, thinking of buying another one of these to replace what's in my Avalanche. You cannot go wrong with this unit. It is definitely worth the money and time to install. You will not be sorry. Period!

Pros: display easy to read in daylight

Cons: can't change the display color

Much better sound than my 10 year old pioneer. Love the USB and Bluetooth! Can't say enough good things about the sound quality and performance.

Pros: Sound quality, tons of features, volume knob not buttons

Cons: The blue light does not dim, just the white lights. This may prove to be too bright at night, time will tell.

I was looking for a head unit to use in my work service van that only came with AM/FM radio. Has just about any feature you'd want. Fit and works just right. It's amazing how fast it picked up my tunes I put on a USB thumb drive and iPhone, not tried plugging in my Android yet buy I suspect it will be just a quick. Not really tried iHeart or Pandora yet either. One serious problem I have with it. When I connect my iPad via Bluetooth and play videos, the audio starts out fine for a few seconds then in no time the audio is dragging behind the video so it is so far out of sync it's impossible to watch anything. If there is a delay with playing songs via Bluetooth you should not notice it. This is one feature I really wanted to use hence the 3 Stars, otherwise I would have given it 5 Stars. If that is not something that you will worry about, enjoy it! I still have a Jabra Cruiser that syncs just fine and I can have it transmit to an FM frequency, I just hate going about it in a round-about-way when the Bluetooth should just work on it. Kenwood, that is a major fail for me. Other than that it seems to be a fine stereo.

Pros: Easy Setup Easy controls Great sound quality Fast pulling songs from USB and iPhone/iPad/iPod

Cons: Bluetooth has a delay making it unusable for playing videos from iPad.

I looked at dozens of decks on Crutchfield for around $100 and I'm glad I picked this one. The bluetooth feature is great and easy to set up on my HTC One smartphone. Had a friend install it for me but after watching him do it I realized that it would of been easy for me to do. It only took about 20 minutes. Has a nice look and I appreciate the auxilary jack and usb port to hook all my devices up. Great Product as always with Kenwood.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

A ton of features for the price, and everything works as designed. I didn't like the small buttons. Would have liked more dials to control sound quality (EQ), w/o having to dig into layers of menus. I think they put the microphone plug on the wrong side (back) -- should have put it on the front. Since it's on the back, you have to snake it through the back of the dash and find a place to mount it on the front of the dash. I would have preferred a small mike I could plug into the front as needed. The "master sheet" that explains how to install in my car (2003 Toyota Matrix) was a little skimpy on the details, I thought. They should make the website so that customers can upload their tips and photos. The whole kit included a set of bolts that I didn't need, but initially left me wondering what they're for. The wiring harness had extra wires that I didn't need -- again, left me wondering if I was leaving something out that I should connect. The plastic frame Crutchfield included had one hole that was a little too small for a screw, and lots of extra tabs that I had to break off. Maybe that's all obvious but it does slow down the installation as you wonder whether you're screwing up. When connecting wiring harnesses, it would've been nice if Crutchfield had included a bit of electrical tape or screw-on caps.

Pros: Ton of features, especially bluetooth connection to phone. Great price. Decent sound.

Cons: Audio quality controls are buried in layers of menu. Weird place for a microphone jack.

Seems to be a good unit, I installed it in my daughter's '05 Toyota, whose factory radio was giving up the ghost. She needed a bluetooth for her iPhone both for audio and hands free. It has filled the bill, although the audio bluetooth connection can be a bit glitchy. CD functions well, FM receiver seems good. Overall for the price and ease of installation, I'd recommend this unit. Crutchfield, provided the replacement dash plate and wiring harness, installation instructions were almost spot on.

I bought this unit about a week ago for my work car. I was not about to spend a lot of money on a stereo for this car and for the price it is winner. The unit was a very simple install. I usually just head to another retailer and pick up a pioneer and then complain about the sound. Then I thought about Crutchfield and that they sell Kenwood. I got online and found this unit on sale. Years ago when the whole car stereo upgrade craze started I had used Kenwood and loved it. Well some things never change. This unit has plenty of power and a good sound. The only thing about it that I am not so happy about is on some of my media files it sounds a little DIGITAL and the way you get from one place to another can be a pain. Oh I do want to mention the bluetooth..WOW!!! Less than 100.00 and bluetooth that not only works but actually works GREAT!!!Like I said though, for the price it can not be beat.

    Pros: Sound, and blue tooth

Cons: On some media it sounds a little DIGITAL..

My recent experience with Pioneer and Sony has not been good, so I went to better brands. I ended up with this Kenwood. The radio itself is a great unit. Fairly simple to operate. The Bluetooth features work extremely well with her Android phone and my Windows phone. Overall I couldn't ask for a better radio or more features for the price. Now I just have to replace her speakers....

I installed this unit in my mom's SUV ahead of a cell phone (hands free OK) driving ban in Austin, Texas. I usually choose Pioneer decks; but thanks to a bracket in the back of the installation I chose the Kenwood to avoid cutting it out. Mom is happy with my choice. Well, I'm not. After swapping conversations with my wife for over two years on Pioneer decks and connected microphones the Kenwood makes my mom sound like she is in a bathroom, in a hole, possibly in a foreign country. Out of seven rides I have to outfit with hands free controls; this is the one I'm not happy with.

Decent features and not overly complicated, but lacks some basic functionality I would have expected for this price point. First: no color options for the display and no way to change the brightness of the blue buttons. At night, the blue is way too bright and very distracting. The sound quality is mediocre and the buttons feel cheap. There were plenty of offerings from Kenwood that were cheaper than this. I thought by baying a bit more I'd be getting something of a bit higher quality, but I guess not. If you need a cheap'ish radio with bluetooth and you aren't picky about cosmetics, you might try this, but I'm betting there are better things out there for this price.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

First off, I'm overall quite pleased with the radio. The sound quality is decent, the Bluetooth connection with my phone seems to be quite reliable (see below for a caveat), and everything works as advertised. My only real complaint is the way you select an audio source. On other car radios I've used, there was a row of buttons to select from. On this one, you need to press the "source" key repeatedly to get to the source you're looking for. On occasion, that means I need to click through Standby, Aux, Tuner, USB, Pandora, and iHeartRadio to get where I want to go. Not a big deal, but it's a nuisance. The caveat to Bluetooth being reliable may very well be an issue with my phone. On occasion, when I get in the car, the phone won't connect. In order to make it work, I need to turn off bluetooth entirely on my phone, then turn it on and manually connect. It's only done it a couple of times, though, and I think my phone has done that once or twice with a Bluetooth headset, so... Overall, not a bad radio for the price. I don't regret buying it, even with the odd quirks.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Works as advertised. Install was relatively easy, though it came without installation instructions. On my BMW Z3, it wasn't obvious the blue P-CONT wire had to go to the car's amp, but once I established that it worked great. I even had to pull it back out a few weeks later to correct an alarm issue with the car, and getting it back out to make adjustments was easy. Bluetooth automatically connects within about 15-20 seconds, usually, when the phone is in the car. I'm not big on Pandora or iHeartRadio, but they also work seamlessly. Good product, good price -- if Crutchfield says it fits your car and you're good with the blue display on the face, go for it!

Pros: Easy bluetooth connection; quick install even for a novice; the included microphone connection makes calls a lot more clear, even in a convertible (so long as you find a good place to mount it).

Cons: It may actually have too many functions and features.

Very good stereo. Bought it for my daily driver to replace the stock unit. The sound is definitely better than the stock. Controls and menu systems seems easy to figure out. BT audio and phone calls are really good, probably better than the BT35-HONDA unit I installed on my other cars. I'm definitely happy with this purchase. It was cheap and very easy to install.

Pros: Sounds, installation, BT audio/phone, easy access aux/USB, and price. It's also great that Cructhfield included everything for the install.

Cons: Not really much. I still haven't found any cons yet on the unit itself. The only con I found are the instructions that were included to install it in my particular car. It wasn't really clear or complete on how to take off the old unit so I had to go on the car forums to get more info. Not really a big deal though.

Installed in a 1996 Ford F-250 SuperCab pickup truck. I just replaced the OEM AM/FM/Cassette unit with this Kenwood. I did not replace the OEM speakers and was pleasantly surprised at how much better they sounded after installing the Kenwood. It took me about 3.5 hours to do the install but I took my time to do it right. The supplied wire harnesses made the job easy with the supplied instructions. The toughest part was running the Bluetooth mic up the roof pillar and under the dash to the driver side sun visor where I mounted it. Still learning all the ins and outs of this Kenwood unit, but I am pleased at the instructions and the ease of the installation. Thanks, Crutchfield.

Just installed this in a 2002 BMW 325i with steering controls. It was one of the few that would fit in this car without major modifications, but it was by far the best choice. The receiver is great, provides all the functions that you want today. Bluetooth, pandora, USB, Aux and great tuning abilitie. Can take and receive calls with the push of a button and can use Siri to play songs and get directions, all that for a very reasonable price that still has lots of power. I had small issues with the installation but only because the car did not have space, so I had to do more removal than just the instructions provided, but no issues with connections. ( wiring harness, steering adapter) all worked as described.

Pros: Great value for the price with lots of functions and outputs

Cons: Cannot change color of display, but the colors are not bad, just may not fit your other interior instruments. If changing in BMW you will need to pop out the vents above the receiver location to get your hands in there to move the wires out of the way so the recover can not push it in until the wires are out of the way it could damage the receiver, I dented mine in the back a bit, but did not cause any harm to the outputs, once I cleared the wires the recover fit perfectly.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I replaced my stock Toyota radio/cd/cassette because the cassette player broke. I am using the same factory speakers that came with the car. The factory unit had better stereo separation, especially when playing the radio. The new unit's sound is also a little muddled and does not seem to be as crisp and clean. I turned on the "Sound Reconstruction" feature and it helped considerably, especially when listening to the CD player and my mp3 player connected to the mini-plug in front of the unit. The radio is also a little better, but still almost sounds like mono. Maybe there are speakers that would match my receiver better. I like the features, especially the mini-plug and the ability to place phone calls from my iPhone using Bluetooth. There are other features that I do not use. My daughters connect their iPhones via Bluetooth to listen to music. Using all the features is a bit difficult. Maneuvering through menus and sub-menus can make performing even the basic tasks somewhat prohibitive, especially while driving. It takes several steps just to make changes to the balance or fader, or to the bass, treble, and mids. Looking at all the other multi-function receivers on the market, it seems that the only way to get everything to fit is by making small buttons and layering the menus. So, I can't say that this Kenwood receiver is any different than any other unit in this respect. It's not a hi-fi unit, but I am happy with it. It does what I wanted it to do.

Pros: Many features for a decent price.

Cons: The sound quality is not as good as I had hoped. It is difficult to to maneuver through the menus, especially while driving.

Installed on my 2004 Chrysler Crossfire. Took about an hour. Great sound. Love the Bluetooth. Has more function that I need. Did not try the hands free phone yet since do not like talking on the phone while driving. Overall very satisfied with the product and customer service.

Pros: Great sound, easy to install, comes complete with everything you need such as instruction, antenna adapter, harness, and the tools to remove your old head unit(saves money and headache). Great customer service if you need help.

The radio was simple to install. I did have to watch a YouTube video for the microphone installation to install it above the rear view mirror.

Pros: The Bluetooth function is incredible. I now enjoy using my cell phone in the car! I also love the fact that all my cd's are now available via a tiny USB stick. I like having the choice to use the receiver or the iPod itself to control the iPod.

Cons: The Kenwood receiver does take a few days to get to know, but it does have a lot of functions.

I was very surprised to find a car stereo with so many features for such a good price. The unit works very well and it was very easy to pair my android phone for hands free calling. The set up was very simple and I had it programed with my local stations as well as the bluetooth in a mater of minutes. The only slight issue I had was that the blue display is a little bright at night and takes a while to get used to. The readout display is dimmable but the display around the power button is not. Overall, I am extremely happy with this product.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Solid in dash radio for 2002 Chevy Silverado. I called to ask questions about BT and then placed an order all in one smash. I was offered the plastic pry tools for the dash and the connectors for splicing the wire harnesses together. Both were MUST buys!! I also had a little trouble with the 'installation kit' that was included. The directions were not that good, a few calls to tech support and a little trial and error and I was good to go.

Cons: Apple BT protocols will not play turn by turn via Maps navigation while listening to the FM stereo. Once unit is in BT mode, the voice prompts come through fine. I called to ask that specific questions and was told it would work. Even the directions say it will. Once my iPhone is connect to the unit via BT, I do not get the audible text message receipt tone. Unless the unit is in BT mode. Shouldn't be texting and driving, I get it... Be nice to know that a text came through at least.

This radio sounds very good compare to my old Sony bt3900u. It fits my 2004 Camry very nice and the music clearly define from the bass, mid range, to the treble after you fine tune it.

Pros: good radio for the price, easy installation. My I phone 5s have no problem connecting to the radio blue tooth. It memorize it every time I get in the car. I like it, so I purchased another one for my truck.

Cons: The display is hard to see during day light. It does not display songs titles and artist with radio stations broadcast.

Went from lowest end Kenwood to this model, so install was a breeze (same connector). I used a single bladed hacksaw (without the backbone) to cut the steel frame at the rear of the radio, so that the radio could sit properly and not protrude like the old one.

Pros: Great sound! The install adaptor worked great, provides for a flush mount so looks like a pro install.

Cons: A little difficult to see in daylight. Not from the white screen display, but because of the curved, polished lens cover and accompanying glare. Would be much better if manufacturers made the screen displays with flat lens displays. Tiny remote control is difficult to use with large hands.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Replaced stock radio in a 2004 GMC Sierra and it works perfectly. Install kit and instructions from Crutchfield were spot on and easy to follow. No need to alter anything in the space where the radio goes. Radio is crisp and clear with plenty of power for a truck cab. Bluetooth connection to my iPhone is perfect. Easy to route the speaker wire under the dash and through the fuse panel. Mounted speaker on the dash next to the left front window pillar and the wire is hidden but about 1.5 inches. Picks up my voice no problem. Single CD is fine for me.

Pros: Perfect fit for my vehicle and a HUGE improvement over the stock GMC junk that passes for a radio. $140 for the radio, vehicle matched harness, and door chimes speaker is well worth the price.

Cons: Takes a bit to get used to the main volume knob NOT being the on/off switch. That switch is actually a tiny button to the left of the main knob.

Bob Mc from Shoreline area, CT on 7/21/2014

I was in Harrisonburg, VA visiting my daughter and happened upon the Crutchfield outlet store. I had avoided spending any money on myself for years, but was so amazed at the value of this model I couldn't resist. My truck is 11 years old, with 188K miles, and the interior is a bit noisy, so I didn't want to go wild with a top shelf system, although it was tempting. I love the ability to bypass my iPod's audio amp and play (and charge) through the one iPod/USB cable. Similarly, I now have the option of making playlists on USB keys and plugging directly in. The improvement over the factory sound quality surprised me. I want to highlight the Crutchfield adapter and installation kit, though. It was fantastic! Like I said, I was visiting in Virginia and was looking at a long ride back with another 8 hours of low quality audio. I wasn't thrilled. But I got an excellent explanation of the steps from my sales associate, who also reviewed the photos Crutchfield personnel have at their disposal (if you need to call them mid-installation they'll know EXACTLY what you are looking at in your vehicle). I had a small collection of tools with me, and I actually as able to change it in about an hour in the parking lot of the condo complex thanks to the kit's completeness and the overview. I was barely phased by July 3 traffic (it took 12 hours instead of 8) as I lost myself hearing things from my iPod like I'd never heard them before.

Pros: Clear audio. Vast improvement even though I did not yet upgrade factory speakers. Direct iPod play. Easy to read screen.

Cons: No simple On/Off power button. Cycle through audio inputs until you reach Standby. A few buttons are small and their functions are a little difficult to discern as you drive on a highway in a vehicle with stiff suspension.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Installed this radio into a 1985 Porsche... Took an hour to install including the time to remove the center console, slowly fixing the wiring mess from previous owners of this 29 year old car, and stopping a couple of times for refreshments. Bought it primarily for the built in bluetooth phone features. Worked flawlessly with my iphone - simple and effective. Pandora and other software features are nice but not important to me and likely will never use. Maybe 20 minutes to install if I hadn't fixed other things around the old wiring and dash components ...

Pros: Page 20 in the users manual is all you need for installation (wiring diagram of the radio's connector). Very simple install and initial configuration. Can't go wrong for the $$.... and quick shipment and the little extras (wiring connector and removal tool) thrown in at no cost, will bring me back to Crutchfield later for higher end radios for our other cars.

Cons: Crutchfield provided Porsche-specific install instructions were of very limited quality. "Copy of a copy of a copy" type of print quality but it wasn't needed for the installation purposes.

Good unit, some difficulty installing but tech team helped fix that quickly. Main complaint is no way to dim the blue accent lights on the left side at night. I'll probably mark over them with a sharpie to dim. The bluetooth audio is great but takes a few minutes to connect every time and it gets confused with multiple phones connected. Love the sound quality, love the front usb/aux input connectors, and I really love the Metra 99-8901 In-dash Receiver Kit for Subaru Outback it looks factory and adds a great storage area for phones. Be sure to order the Posi-products twist connectors it makes wiring much easier. The remote mic and hands-free phone works awesome.

Nice unit. After my factory 6 CD player, AM-FM unit ate 3 of my favorite CD's, I did some review research on Crutchfield's website and chose this unit. I could've gotten it cheaper elsewhere, but Crutchfield threw in the wiring and install kit. Their excellent tech support was a big factor also. I ran into a wiring harness problem and Crutchfield walked me through it, at 7:30 in the evening ! Takes a little practice to get used to all the bells and whistles, but over all, a great unit. My friends toll me the Bluetooth sounds excellent. Wish the buttons on the unit were a little larger.

Upon purchasing a new product, I always make sure to do the necessary research. This receiver was everything I was looking for. Sleek design, Bluetooth capable, and a CD player. I didn't want anything that stuck out too much, so the black finish was perfect. Do note that once this thing is installed, and you are playing your music via Bluetooth, sound will only come out of the front speakers. It is the default setting. All you do to fix it is go to Bluetooth settings and change it to "all". Overall this receiver is good for anyone who needs Bluetooth at an affordable price.

Cons: A bit of a lag between songs, only one display color(blue).

Really, I would give this 4.5 stars. The install was easy in my 2003 F150 truck. No problem finding a place for the blue tooth mic. The bluetooth itself isn't great but it works. Some voice recognition errors can be frustrating. The cd, tuner, mp3 features all work great. I have not yet tried the pandora or iheartradio features. I'm a little concerned about data usage (I don't have unlimited data) so I don't use those options. One drawback is that since I go back and forth between tuner, cd and mp3 frequently the source cycling is a little tedious but not a big deal. So far so good.

Pros: Lots of features. Looks sharp. Easy install.

Cons: inconsistent bluetooth voice recognition somewhat burdensome source input cycling.

I specified what I wanted and Crutchfield delivered for a replacement radio, real easy process and things fit great

Pros: nice tuner, really pulls in the FM stations

Cons: I should have mentioned that I was a mature person and used to two knob radios, this one knob thing is frightening, I guess I will get used to it as soon as I figure it out!!bluetooth operation has no sound, have to figure out how to get bluetooth too rear speakers.

    GREAT Deck!!!

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This deck is amazing. Quick easy install, good documentation, excellent sound quality, and great features!! The speakers sound great, the bluetooth was easy to set up and works amazing. I used the included microphone, ran the wire through the headliner and mounted it near my rear view mirror, and made a few calls while I was driving. Even while going 60 on the freeway (lots of road noise) people said they could hear me loud and clear and had no idea I was using a car bluetooth system. MP3 CD Folder navigation is easy (important for me), CD navigation is fast and responsive (no lag or annoyance when clicking the "previous track" button like some decks), and it plays scratched CD's easily. VERY happy!! Also, the colors are great, build quality and menus are excellent! All default options and this thing rocked my world. I have experience with Alpine, Kenwood, Pioneer, and Sony aftermarket decks and this one is by far the best I've ever used - even compared to my more expensive Kenwoods from 3-4 years back. BUY IT!! One thing that freaked me out though, is that by default it has only the front speakers enabled for the bluetooth audio streaming. NO clue why they did this, I thought for about 2 hours that my speakers weren't working until I turned on the tuner and they started working. There's an option (that took me a LONG time to find) in the bluetooth settings to enable the rear speakers during bluetooth audio streaming. Over-all, the BEST budget bluetooth deck. 5 Stars!!!

Pros: Excellent Features Easy Install Good documentation No complaints

Cons: Bluetooth Audio streaming is set to Front Speakers only by default

    Does the job

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I installed this in a 2005 GMC Canyon Crew Cab using the OEM speakers. The vehicle had an OEM XM radio, but I was no longer subscribing to XM, so this feature won't be missed. I had found a YouTube video online called "2004 Chevrolet Colorado - Radio Replacement" by Ruben Rodriguez that was very good. Ruben used a Scosche GMT2049A dash kit that has a storage pocket underneath the radio which I bought online for under $10. The Crutchfield rep had no kit with a pocket - just the basic dash kit that Crutchfield gives you for free. I also bought the GM VT-GMRC-01 interface which allowed me to wire everything in advance and has the chime replacement. Wiring was a snap as the wire color codes are identical. The little Posi-Products Connectors I also got worked well to splice the wires. As most of the reviews state this chime thing is annoyingly loud - even after cutting the circuit board to lower the sound per the directions. I ended up covering most of the units speaker holes with duct tape till the chime sound was acceptable. When playing music from your Bluetooth attached smartphone the unit is defaulted to play only through the front speakers so you have to dig through the menus to make it go to all four. Learning how to use the radio menus and sub-menus was a bit time consuming, but this is todays world.

Pros: Good value for a Bluetooth unit Works with my Blackberry 9330 Fits without modifying the vehicle or radio Installed and configured in less than two hours

Cons: No storage pocket with free kit Blue lights on left side of radio don't dim Radio doesn't dim with vehicle dashboard lights - must manually do it. Trial and error modification of replacement chime unit

Bluetooth Technology: The Kenwood KDC-BT318U is equipped with built-in Bluetooth (ver. 2.1 + EDR) allowing you to make and receive phone calls wirelessly through the receiver; as well as stream music wirelessly from your smartphone to the head unit. In order to use Bluetooth wireless technology, your phone must also be Bluetooth compatible and be able to interpret certain profiles. This unit is compatible with the following Bluetooth Profiles:

    • Hands-Free Communication: HFP 1.5 (Hands Free Profile), OPP 1.1 (Object Push Profile), PBAB 1.0 (Phone Book Access Profile).
    • Audio Streaming: A2DP 1.2 (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile), AVRCP 1.3 (Audio/Video Remote Control Profile).
Note: Due to the differences in Bluetooth technology, some Bluetooth enabled devices may be incompatible, function improperly, or may not support all features when used with the Kenwood KDC-BT318U. Visit Kenwood's Support Site for a complete list of compatible Bluetooth enabled phones.

Secure Simple Pairing (SSP) + Auto Pairing (for iPhone): With Secure Simple Pairing (SSP), you can easily pair a Bluetooth enabled phone to the Kenwood KDC-BT318U without having to enter pin codes or go through complicated settings. When a paired Bluetooth device is in close proximity to the receiver, the auto connection function automatically pairs the two units. You can pair up to five Bluetooth-enabled devices to the Kenwood head unit with a maximum of two Bluetooth phones and one Bluetooth audio player connected at one time (but only one can be used at a time). You can even pair your Apple iPhone by simply connecting it to the Kenwood head unit via USB and following a single prompt on the head unit's display.

Bluetooth Hands-Free Communication: The head unit supports Bluetooth hands-free communication for your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone. The controls of the KDC-BT318U can be used to dial a number, answer an in-coming call, or end a call. The unit also includes an external microphone (featuring adjustable gain), so you can carry on your side of the conversation while listening to the caller through your vehicles speakers. During a conversation, you can switch between the Private Mode (talking directly on your cell phone) and the Hands Free Mode.

    • Answering a Call: When a call comes in, a ring-tone will be heard through your vehicle's speaker and the caller's name or phone number will be displayed. You can answer the call from the head unit's front-panel controls, or setup the head unit to automatically answer the incoming call immediately or after 1-30 seconds. The KDC-BT318U also supports the Call Waiting function, so you can answer another incoming call while suspending the current call you are on. Your compatible cell-phone must also support this feature.
    • Dialing a Number: Using the KDC-BT318U, you can dial a phone number in one of the following ways:
      • Entering a Phone Number: Allows you to directly dial a phone number up to 32 digits from the head unit's control knob or remote control.

Up to 600 numbers can be stored for each registered cell phone. Each number can be up to 32 digits long and each name can be up to 50 characters long.  Stored phone numbers can be categorized by General, Home, Office, Mobile, or Other. You can search each category of the phone book in alphabetical order.
      • Call History: The Call History is a list of calls that have originated from and were received by this unit that you can dial. You can select Outgoing, Incoming, or Missed calls.
      • Voice Dialing: If your mobile phone supports voice recognition, then you can dial out by voice command. Simply speak into the included microphone.

Note: The external wired microphone offers improved audio quality versus an integrated microphone, so you can be heard easier over noisy traffic and road noise. You can adjust the volume level and noise cancellation of the microphone without affecting the other sources. The external microphone features an attached 10' cable terminated by a right-angle 3.5mm connector which plugs into the mic input on the rear-panel of the head unit. The microphone offers an integrated mounting bracket which can be clipped to your vehicle's sun-visor or taped to your dash. The external microphone measures 0.525" (diameter) x 1.505" (depth).

    • Subwoofer Phase: You can adjust the phase of the subwoofer output between 180-degrees (Reverse) or 0-degrees (Normal).
    • Subwoofer Level: Once the Subwoofer preamp output is activated, you can independently control the subwoofer preamp output level (-15 to +15) from the CD receiver.

Speaker Settings: The Speaker Setting function tailors the head unit's audio settings according to the type of speakers in your vehicle. You may select a Speaker Setting of 'SP-Off' (flat/off), 'SP-OEM' (for OEM factory speaker systems), 'SP-6x9/6' (for systems with 6" and 6"x9" speakers), or 'SP-5/4' (for systems with 4" and 5" speakers).

Preset EQ: Eight EQ curves are preset into memory, allowing you to recall the best preset EQ curve for different types of music. Each preset has its own level settings for bass, midrange, and treble . You can choose from the following preset EQ curves; Rock, Pops, Easy, Top 40, Jazz, Natural, Drive EQ, or User. The Drive EQ mode is an EQ preset that helps reduce road noise. The User mode allows you to manually adjust the head unit's Bass (200Hz) , Midrange (2.5kHz), and Treble (12.5kHz) level from +/- 8dB.

Note: You can store bass, middle and treble tone settings for each source (CD, AM/FM, Aux, USB, iPod, and Pandora/iHeart Radio).

Sound Enhancements: The head unit provides further sound enhancements for your car audio system.

    • Bass Boost: The Kenwood CD receiver features a Bass Boost control that can be set to the following levels (BB1, BB2, BB3, or Off).
    • Loudness: This function enhances low and high frequencies to make the sound clearer lower volumes. There are 3 levels (LV1, LV2, or Off).
    • Sound Reconstruction: When MP3 or WMA files encoded at a low bit rate (less than 96 kbps, 44.1k, 48kHz) are played, the Sound Reconstruction function restores their high frequencies so the sound quality is closer to files encoded at a high bit rate. The processing is optimized for the compression format and the bit rate used. When Sound Reconstruction is Off, the unit plays the original sound stored in the audio file.

Volume Offset: The level of each source may be independently adjusted to prevent radical leaps in output volume when switching from one source to another. The available settings range from -8 to 0 (-8 to +8 for Aux source).

Key Beep: The in-dash head unit provides an audible beep to confirm button operation. This function can be turned On or Off.

    Display Features

Detachable Face: The Kenwood KDC-BT318U features a single front loading CD face that detaches from the chassis to deter theft. There is no protective face case included. An optional soft face case (142DFC1X, sold separately) can be purchased for this unit. A face-fixing screw is supplied for making the face non-detachable, if desired.

Single-Line Display: The Kenwood head unit features a single-line, 13-segmented/13-character, white backlit LCD with blue button illumination.

Brightness & Dimmer: You can dim the LCD illumination to better suit the time of day. You can adjust the maximum brightness of the LCD illumination from 0-31. The button illumination and Kenwood logo does not dim.

12Hr/24Hr Clock: The head unit can be set to display a 12hr or 24hr clock. The unit also displays the day (Sun, Mon, Tue, Wed, Thu, Fri, or Sat). With your vehicle's key in the accessory or start position, the head unit continues to display the clock and button illumination during Standby mode. Pressing and holding the source button turns the unit off completely.

Demo Mode: This unit features a Demo mode which can be turned On or Off within the menu.

    Remote Control

Wireless Remote Control: The KDC-BT318U comes with an IR remote control (RC-406) for wireless operation of the head unit. The remote will control Audio, CD, USB, and Tuner functions. It is powered by a single CR2025 3V lithium-cell battery (supplied).

    • Numeric Keypad: The wireless remote control features a numeric keypad (0-9) which allows direct track access of your music tracks & files (from CD or USB), as well as AM/FM presets.
    • Attenuator: The CD receiver features an Attenuator button on the supplied remote control that turns the volume down very quickly with one touch of the button.

Steering Wheel Remote Compatibility: The head unit features an OEM steering wheel remote control input wire (blue/yellow) within the included wiring harness that lets you keep your vehicle's factory radio steering wheel remote controls when used with an optional steering wheel audio control adapter (sold separately). Please consult Crutchfield's Outfit My Car to see if your vehicle is compatible.

Note: The KDC-BT318U is not compatible with PAC's SWI-RC Steering Wheel Control Interface.

It gets confused with more than one. Worse the bluetooth is inconsistent a best. I've used with iphone and android phones and with both it will lose bluetooth connection randomly and when a phone call ends. If I could do it over I'd buy a different receiver. maybe a more expensive one will have bluetooth that works better [ Dan  Apr 05, 2015 ]
Two phones is all it supports. After that - it is delete to add new. Bummer it doesn't support more as my daughter now has a smartphone too. Can verify it works with iOS and Android, but BT is BT. [ Bob  Apr 05, 2015 ]

Do you have a playlist made on the thumb drive? If so try using the back arrow on the radio and select and playlist and see. Some times my phone won't play unless I open up the music app and select a playlist. I own 2 of these radios. 1 in my wife's car and 1 in my truck and I've had the issue on both. [ Joshua  Feb 22, 2015 ]
Lee, I wish I could help you out on this one but, I really don't know the answer. I never used the I phone USB port. Sorry. [ John R.  Feb 07, 2015 ]
Yes, it will charge your iPhone. That's actually one of my favorite features, being able to listen to the various music platforms while the phone is being charged. [ BRADLEY  Feb 06, 2015 ]
Yes it will charge your iPhone when connected through the USB port. [ Jeremy  Feb 06, 2015 ]
Yes, this model will charge your iPhone when plugged into the USB. Off topic, if you're looking at this stereo, let it be known that the lighted ring around the dial and the phone button can NOT be dimmed and tends to be a little too bright at night for my liking. Hope this helps. [ Bryant D.  Feb 06, 2015 ]
It will pass audio as well as charge! [ Dewey  Feb 06, 2015 ]
I have not actually used the usb input at all. I have a car charger that I use and then connect my phone via blue tooth. I know this wasn't much help. [ Jonathan  Feb 06, 2015 ]
No it will not. But other than that it is a awesome radio and of course it's Kenwood. [ Larry  Feb 06, 2015 ]
Great head unit. It will charge while plugged in the USB and allow you to utilize controls for your apple device. [ Timothy  Feb 06, 2015 ]

I forwarded your question to an Advisor and they responded with the following: No it does not support Pandora for Android via USB. It will allow for those Pandora features when connected via Bluetooth though. If you would like to discuss further you can contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. Hi Joan, I'm assuming that you have already set the clock, correct? On the front panel going from left to right on the bottom there are the two buttons to advance/retreat the track, station etc. Right next to those two is a small button with the label above it: Scroll/Display Toggle through that and you'll see the clock come up as an option. Good luck, Ron [ Ron  Jun 29, 2014 ]
