Hands-free calling and a cool display

Kenwood funnels Bluetooth® technology and plenty of sound-sculpting options into one affordable car stereo – the KDC-BT558U CD receiver. With this versatile car stereo, you'll enjoy hands-free calling and audio streaming from your phone, and you'll be able to adjust the variable-color display so this Kenwood looks right at home in your dash.

Bluetooth lets you concentrate on driving

Bluetooth gives you hands-free calling convenience, plus a wireless connection to the songs stored on your compatible music player. This receiver's secure simple pairing (SSP) technology gets you paired up right away, so you can talk hands-free by simply touching the dedicated "phone" button when a call comes in. If you're an iPhone® aficionado, the KDC-BT558U automatically pairs with your iPhone to give you full Siri Eyes Free control.

This receiver can alert you to incoming text messages that you can check when you're out of the car. You'll enjoy superior communication with the external Bluetooth microphone placed in a good spot in your vehicle.

Stream radio from your phone

If you enjoy Internet radio on your iPhone or Android®, you can play music from Pandora® and iHeartRadio® Internet radio on this great-sounding receiver. You can scroll through your stations, bookmark songs, and give a thumbs-up or thumbs-down right from the receiver's face. And if you're into radio, you can add a satellite radio tuner to this Kenwood, and get into the in-depth music and entertainment programming provided by SiriusXM.

One versatile USB port

The receiver's front-panel USB port allows you to access and control the music stored on your iPhone or Android phone. And if you have MP3, WMA, or WAV music files on a thumb drive, the USB port can handle those too. Here's a cool feature from Kenwood — Drive Change allows you to connect a memory card reader or USB hub to the Kenwood's USB input and select music from up to five memory cards or USB flash drives.

Sound thinking

The 3-band equalizer lets you tweak your music to fit better in your car's acoustics, or you can choose one of the preset equalizer settings to suit your personal taste. You can use the subwoofer level, low-pass frequency filter, and phase controls to tweak the bass going to your subwoofer.

Want to keep your car's steering wheel audio controls?

In most vehicles, you can use an adapter (not included) to connect your vehicle's steering wheel controls to this Kenwood stereo. Connect a few wires, program the adapter for your car and this Kenwood, and you'll retain the convenience of your steering wheel controls. Check the "Accessories" tab for compatible adapters.

Bluetooth note: Use of this receiver's Bluetooth features will depend upon your phone's Bluetooth capabilities. Learn more in our article explaining Bluetooth profiles.

Great product! Easy to use.. Radio controls are VERY intuitive. Easy to install. Bluetooth and phone features work flawlessly. Love the multiple connection ports to connect your devices.

Pros: Value for the money, function, sound.

Cons: If your radio mounts upward or is exposed to a lot of sunlight, display might not be quite bright enough but shouldn't be a deal breaker.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is my first experience with a Bluetooth capable unit, and I am really impressed. I'd heard numerous horror stories from people regarding their experiences with Bluetooth, and I was a little anxious, but the BT558U has put to rest any concerns. Really easy to install, pairing with my iPhone 6 was remarkably easy, the stereo sound quality is fantastic, and the call quality over Bluetooth is a lot better than expected. I've seen on other reviews that sometimes the voice quality on the other end of the call could be somewhat tinny and poor, but I've heard nothing but good things from the people I've called. Great unit for a great price!

Pros: Easy to install, very easy to set up. The settings and controls are intuitive and make sense. Stereo sounds great, call quality is pretty good.

Cons: The only issue I had is a default factory setting that is set up for Bluetooth to only play through the front speakers, however it takes about 10 seconds to change the setting.

    2001 Dodge Dakota
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have had this for just over a month now. I like it a lot. The bluetooth feature is the main reason I wanted a new head unit for my 2001 Dodge Dakota. That and I hated the Alpine head unit I bought back in 2005. That was my second Alpine and my last. They make the worst products. Overall this Kenwood is a great unit for the money with just a few flaws, but none I can't live with.

Pros: Bluetooth is great. I am using it with my old Samsung T-139 flip phone and it pairs with almost no problems. I also have my Hisense Sero 7 Pro tablet paired with it. Again it works great with only one large problem. Calls using the phone are very clear over the stereo, but it took me a while to find the perfect spot for the microphone. I ended up placing it on the visor even though it looks kind of stupid there. It makes a huge difference where you place it so that people can hear your calls.

Cons: The bluetooth feature is hit and miss for connecting with my phone and tablet. My phone will connect about 9 out of 10 times without me having to manually pair it. But my tablet will not pair unless I turn off bluetooth on the tablet and then turn it back on.each time I start the truck. That is one large pain in the rear. I do not know if this is the fault of the tablet or the head unit. All I know is that other devices I have paired with the tablet work flawlessly.

This is a great receiver for the price. It has a lot of features for the price. Installation was pretty easy the only thing I had a little trouble with was the wiring and to turn it off you have to press the "SRC" button like four times. Other than that good buy for the price

Pros: Price, Easy installation, Lots of features, Sound is very good even with factory speakers

Cons: None that I can think off.

    Very pleased.

    2010 Dodge Nitro
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

2010 Dodge Nitro Replacement for: Stock. (No external amp or subwoofer) Use 14 gauge crimps to attach harness wires! Great sound! BT-Audio: Better than expected. BT-Phone: much better than expected, especially incl. microphone for voice quality. Pandora/I<3rdo: great control over BT w/Android App USB integration w/ HTC M7 & M8/Cyan4.4.4: Non-existent support under any USB profile. Smaller buttons as noted. But no wasted space on the face. Big display. The color-changing is a cute function to change around on occasion, but unless bright white/yellow/cyan the display can be difficult to read during daytime. I really wish the display brightness had standard wiring harness controls instead of head unit menu-driven. Pain in the rear to change brightness between day-needed and night time dimmed. Once all the install parts are received, this - and most any head unit - is going to be easier to install yourself than you think. Hardest part? Taking the dashboard panels off to get to the old stereo to take it out. Read the instructions. Wiring harness adapter (AXXESS) is easy enough to deal with, *but* a diagram would save the "uninitiated" self-questioning/heartache and the eventual call to tech support. Axxess needs to take IKEA's example of pretty pictures. Wiring colors are standard but connectors aren't labelled. Lastly: Adapter is solid build, generic looking.

For this type of product, you won't find anything better unless you're planning to spend a lot more. It works very smooth with the bluetooth. The 6 channel output is my favorite feature. Hook up a 4 channel amp to your car speakers and another amp for a sub woofer and man oh man! Great set up right there!

Pros: The 6 channel output is my favorite feature

Cons: Volumen round button kinda sucks. Could be better

Love the usb and aux in front for easy use. I love to use my phone for pandora and music from my sd card the only thing I dont like is on my iphone if Bluetooth is connected you can only stream your music via Bluetooth and to me the sound quality is not as good. You can still listen to music with Bluetooth on if you use your usb I phone cord just not via aux. Otherwise great stereo

Pros: Usb, aux on front panel and has Bluetooth

Cons: If you don't have your usb iphone cord and Bluetooth connection is enabled you can only listen to your music from your phone via Bluetooth streaming if you want better sound quality you can use your aux cord but you must disable Bluetooth. At least we haven't figured out any other way

    1999 Audi A4
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Here's the deal, I know when I was searching for a unit that was really well rounded and had cool features as well as working well. This unit was the one that I eventually decided on after looking and speaking to a tech advisor here on the website. The chat option is always great if you are not confident in your decision. The stereo provides everything it claims to in the description, it looks great, has great features, and installs very easily. All the necessary directions and required tools for installation come with. Honestly this is an amazing stereo and Kenwood is truly the best brand you can buy. If you're checking this out and hesitating, don't because I expect a lot whenever I purchase something like this and I am not the least bit displeased.

Pros: - looks good - works well - sounds great - easy to install on your own - just about everything!

Cons: - none come to mind, my only issue was that in my 99 Audi A4 Quattro the additional face plate that comes with did not fit correctly and I would have to rewire speaker wires all the way to my rear speakers in order for them to work.

    1993 Toyota 4Runner
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I just installed this in my 1994 Toyota 4Runner last weekend to swap out the factory AM/FM TAPE DECK. Yes, tape deck. Needless to say, this is a major upgrade in sound quality and flexibility. The KDC-BT558U is not a device you need a NASA background in to operate. It's very straightforward, the setup is simple, and the owners manual doesn't miss anything. After putting the dash back together I had it ready for use in about 30 minutes. The sound is great, the controls are logical, and the variety of inputs it allows you to configure covers anything I could ever try to throw at it. If you are looking for a good, solid AM/FM CD player with a few bells and whistles this one should be on your review list.

Pros: Ease of installation, sound quality, simple controls.

Cons: There is no single push off button. You have to push the Source button multiple times to page through the possible source options you have until you get to Standby. That is the equivalent of off. Then there is the fact that in my particular vehicle the power antenna goes up whenever the unit is in operation. It doesn't matter if you're listening to a CD an iPod or the Radio, it goes up for everything. It would be nice if it only went up for the Radio. But hey, its a 20 year old vehicle.

Love the functionality does a lot of things well and is an excellent value for what you get. This is my second unit that I have installed in my 2 corvettes. Installation was relatively easy and all the parts included from Crutchfield where spot on perfect, and the Bose integration package was 70% cheaper then what my local big box store charges for same kit.

Pros: Bluetooth integration, USB support, Android app support, color display selection to match your car's dash lighting, and remote control. Pretty good sound quality.

Cons: Could be better: menu selection and options could be easier to understand and find. Takes a while to start the power up but that can be the BOSE integration in my 01 corvette :)

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

UI is easy enough to use and not overtly designed by an engineer. Buttons have a bit of a tinny feel to them, but none have fallen out... Font colors are a bit of an annoyance, constantly changing and glowing, but can be altered to display in one color and a dimmer function is available. Bass/Mids/Treble adjust is easy and works well. Wish IPod/Phone connectivity allowed control of media selection via the phone, and not the receiver, but I knew that before buying it, so no big deal.

Pros: Sounds great, price is right. 4 channels! Easy to use.

Cons: Buttons don't have the greatest tactility. Not a big deal, but worth noting. Probably the same on most aftermarket head units, sub-$200.

Great Stereo, Install was relatively easy. Plenty of power, don't need an amp. Controls are confusing, especially when more than one person gets into the truck when both phones are paired to the Bluetooth. But other then that I'm very pleased with the stereo. I really like the doors over the CD player and the Aux & USB ports, keeps the insides dust free.

Very good unit for the price. Sound is excellent with most of the features you would want. I have other units for more but this one has most anything you could want.

Pros: Good value. Easily installs. Has BT, handsfree. Most of all the features and apps you could want for a unit this price.

Cons: Takes a while to get used to all the features but not sure that is a con. Could use a white setting for variable display to more closely resemble me dash.

I Tend to be very picky but regardless of the cons I am pleased with this stereo. I do Courier work and rely on the Bluetooth function as well as listening to audio books from USB stick. The unit does very well at remembering where it left off in the Audiobook even if the stick was removed. if you do listen to audio books or use the auxiliary port I would recommend changing the Offset Volume of your radio to the minimum - 8 And maximizing the volume offset on your ports to +8. read your manual to determine how to do this

Pros: one of the more simple stereos to learn and to use, Bluetooth and auxiliary USB ports are very functional.

Cons: Display not bright enough(even with brightness all the way up and dimmer turned off), slight hesitation in changing sources(disabling unused sources helps), small clock with no options to make larger

    Sweet unit!

I have always enjoyed the simplicity of owning a Kenwood product. The blue tooth feature is the main reason for purchasing this unit and it awesome.

Pros: Low price, blue tooth, variable color display, USB connection, 3.5 mm jack, cd player, and the sound quality is amazing.

Cons: As owner of previous models, none yet.

Really like this unit. I replaced the factory radio in a 2000 Ford Contour. The installation was a snap. I'm running the head unit straight to the speakers (four new Kenwood 6x8 in-door) with no amp and the sound is fantastic. Would DEFINITELY recommend this unit. The only real drawback is the display is very difficult to read in bright light, regardless of the color/brightness settings.

Pros: The sound! WAY better than factory when matched with good speakers. Tons of features iPhone control Bluetooth phone/music Pandora control USB and Aux on front Detachable Face

Cons: Takes a while to really learn controls. Not all controls are intuitive. Very small buttons when you're trying to find them while driving highway speed Glare issues - Very difficult to read display in bright light, regardless of color/brightness settings Clock feature is too small/unreadable in daylight

Purchased this Kenwood head unit to replace the factory radio in my 2005 Nissan Altima. The sound delivery to my speakers has the power with the clear, crisp output at all listening levels as compared to the under performance of the factory radio. The colorful, digital display Is cooler than pictured. Front panel USB, AUX ports and Bluetooth capability made this a must have at this price.

Pros: Bluetooth, USB, AUX. Installation kit from Crutchfield made install a breeze.

Cons: Nothing. Display is fully adjustable to as little or as much light as you would want.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great receiver! Should have purchased a Bluetooth aftermarket car stereo long ago. Sure, newer expensive cars and trucks have this built-in. But my base model F150 had an AM/FM original equipment junk radio and the first aftermarket I installed 4 years ago, was a $39 auto parts store knock-off brand. This Kenwood does it all. I especially like the fact that it'll stream via BT Pandora and others, even though the receiver has a Pandora input setting (which requires the USB cord connected from my iPhone), set it on generic "BT Audio" and it'll fly. Do navigation with your phone? That comes over as well in BT mode. Sound is excellent with numerous EQ settings, several backlight color options and this Kenwood rocks. For the money, great little receiver for a single-DIN setup. It also has all the RCA connections to expand into the amplifier setups if you have those. Definitely recommend this unit for a basic, Bluetooth capable head unit. Don't forget to check for an antenna adapter if required for your vehicle.

Pros: Ease of installation, versatile, detachable face, has a remote. Many expanding options in regards to amps and powering power antenna, etc. Nice controls.

Cons: Brightness on the lightest (brightest) color could be much more. Sometimes hard to see during the day. Also, it takes several menu moves to activate the phone features but that may be phone specific, too.

Cons: Display is not bright enough in sunlight (even cranked to full brightness) Bluetooth radio sounds flat even after customizing sound When switching between Bluetooth radio and regular radio...the regular radio is so LOUD it startles me every time I switch. Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Overall I'm happy with this unit for the price. But, one of my main reasons for choosing this model was for the Pandora stream, and this feature isn't working currently. That said, I've not narrowed down the cause yet and it could be on the Pandora side. I'm in contact with them but so far they believe it may be caused by the Droid/Pandora/Kenwood interface. As of this writing, I don't have any answers. FYI What happens is that I start Pandora, and the "Pandora/Kenwood" screen pops up on my phone. The HU then displays the title of the song that's supposed to be playing but there's no sound. Then the titles start changing, about 1 per every 3 seconds, and still no music. Eventually an error message will pop up on the phone and the HU will display "Check Device". I've run through the Pandora troubleshooting guide several times to no avail. If I can get this to work, I'll upgrade my score to five stars..

    Built-in Bluetooth

Bluetooth Technology: The Kenwood KDC-BT558U is equipped with built-in Bluetooth (ver. 2.1 + EDR) allowing you to make and receive phone calls wirelessly through the receiver; as well as stream music wirelessly from your smartphone to the head unit. In order to use Bluetooth wireless technology, your phone must also be Bluetooth compatible and be able to interpret certain profiles. This unit is compatible with the following Bluetooth Profiles:

    • Hands-Free Communication: HFP 1.5 (Hands Free Profile), OPP 1.1 (Object Push Profile), PBAB 1.0 (Phone Book Access Profile).
    • Audio Streaming: A2DP 1.2 (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile), AVRCP 1.3 (Audio/Video Remote Control Profile).
Note: Due to the differences in Bluetooth technology, some Bluetooth enabled devices may be incompatible, function improperly, or may not support all features when used with the Kenwood KDC-BT558U. Visit Kenwood's Support Site for a complete list of compatible Bluetooth enabled phones.

Secure Simple Pairing (SSP) + Auto Pairing (for iPhone): With Secure Simple Pairing (SSP), you can easily pair a Bluetooth enabled phone to the Kenwood KDC-BT558U without having to enter pin codes or go through complicated settings. When a paired Bluetooth device is in close proximity to the receiver, the auto connection function automatically pairs the two units. You can pair up to five Bluetooth-enabled devices to the Kenwood head unit with a maximum of two Bluetooth phones and one Bluetooth audio player connected at one time (but only one can be used at a time). You can even pair your Apple iPhone by simply connecting it to the Kenwood head unit via USB and following a single prompt on the head unit's display.

Hands-Free Communication w/ External Mic: The head unit supports Bluetooth hands-free communication for your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone. The controls of the KDC-BT558U can be used to dial a number, answer an in-coming call, or end a call. The unit also includes an external microphone (featuring adjustable gain), so you can carry on your side of the conversation while listening to the caller through your vehicles speakers. During a conversation, you can switch between the Private Mode (talking directly on your cell phone) and the Hands Free Mode.

    • Answering a Call: When a call comes in, a ring-tone will be heard through your vehicle's speaker and the caller's name or phone number will be displayed. You can answer the call from the head unit's front-panel controls, or setup the head unit to automatically answer the incoming call immediately or after 1-30 seconds. The KDC-BT558U also supports the Call Waiting function, so you can answer another incoming call while suspending the current call you are on. Your compatible cell-phone must also support this feature.
    • Dialing a Number: Using the KDC-BT558U, you can dial a phone number in one of the following ways:
      • Entering a Phone Number: Allows you to directly dial a phone number up to 32 digits from the head unit's control knob or remote control.
      • Speed (Preset) Dialing: Allows you to register up to 6 phone numbers for quick dialing. The preset numbers can be accessed from the head unit's Control Knob.
      • Phone Book: You can dial by using the downloaded phone book. You can download phone book data from your cell phone to the KDC-BT558U. Up to 600 numbers can be stored for each registered cell phone. Each number can be up to 32 digits long and each name can be up to 50 characters long. Stored phone numbers can be categorized by General, Home, Office, Mobile, or Other. You can search each category of the phone book in alphabetical order.
      • Call History: The Call History is a list of calls that have originated from and were received by this unit that you can dial. You can select Outgoing, Incoming, or Missed calls.
      • Voice Dialing: If your mobile phone supports voice recognition, then you can dial out by voice command. Simply speak into the included microphone.

Note: The external wired microphone offers improved audio quality versus an integrated microphone, so you can be heard easier over noisy traffic and road noise. You can adjust the volume level and noise cancellation of the microphone without affecting the other sources. The external microphone features an attached 10' cable terminated by a right-angle 3.5mm connector which plugs into the mic input on the rear-panel of the head unit. The microphone offers an integrated mounting bracket which can be clipped to your vehicle's sun-visor or taped to your dash. The external microphone measures 0.525" (diameter) x 1.505" (depth).

SMS: If your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone is compatible with SMS (Short Message Service), the Kenwood head unit will notify you when a message has been received. You must then use your phone to check the message. You cannot read, edit, or send a message through this unit.

Wireless Audio Streaming (w/ Metadata Display): The Kenwood KDC-BT558U also supports wireless audio playback (AD2P) and control (AVRCP) of a Bluetooth enabled audio player or smartphone. The KDC-BT558U will be able to control basic playback functions of your Bluetooth device's stored music; such as Play/Pause, Skip Next/Previous, Fast Forward/Rewind and Random/Repeat. The head unit will also display your stored music's song information; such as Artist name and Song/Album title. The KDC-BT558U also supports audio streaming of music apps downloaded on your smartphone with metadata display and limited control. Advanced music control of your music apps will still need be done via your Bluetooth-enabled smartphone. When an incoming call or outgoing call is in progress from your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone, audio streaming will be paused so you can take your call. Once the call is finished, your streaming music will resume.

Siri Eyes Free Control: When paired and connected with an iPhone with Lightning connector via Bluetooth (not USB), the Kenwood KDC-BT858 has the ability to access Siri through its front-panel controls and external microphone. Simply press-and-hold down on the head unit's Answer Button to engage Siri and use the included microphone to communicate with Siri. Siri's voice will heard through your vehicle's speakers. All Siri functions including hands-free calling, music search, setting reminders, text-messaging, audible navigation, and more can be done through the KDC-BT558U and its microphone. The head unit's display will only indicate hands-free calling and Bluetooth audio information (all other functions of Siri are only audible through the Kenwood KDC-BT558U; visual data will still need to be viewed from your iPhone device).

Note: You can ask Siri to get directions to a destination and the turn-by-turn instructions will heard through your vehicle's speakers, while the on-screen map still displays on your iPhone with Lightning connector. The head unit's audio is attenuated while Siri provides audible directions.

    Disc & USB Playback

Disc Compatibility: The unit features a single disc player that will playback CD-Audio and finalized CD-R/CD-RW audio discs. The unit also supports playback of MP3/WMA music files loaded onto CD-R/RW discs. The CD slot is hidden behind a manual fold-up cover which blends in the front-panel of the head unit.

Front-Panel USB Port: The Kenwood KDC-BT558U features a front panel USB (type-A) port that is hidden behind a flip-up cover. The USB port enables connection of a portable USB mass-storage class (MSC) device; such as select Android smartphones (Froyo/Gingerbread OS only), portable digital audio players, or USB thumbdrives. The USB ports support audio playback and control of MP3/WMA/WAV audio files stored on these portable USB mass-storage class devices. Audio Section

16 Bit D/A Converter: The Kenwood KDC-BT558U utilizes a 16-bit digital to analog converter for superior sound quality.

MOSFET Amplifier: The Kenwood KDC-BT558U is equipped with a MOSFET amplifier. Compared to conventional power supplies, the MOSFET amplification circuit is smaller and more efficient, and it delivers increased power with less distortion and absolutely zero on/off switching noise. More power means louder and cleaner music at higher volumes because you're not pushing the limits of the amplification circuit. The power output specs for the KDC-BT558U are as follows:

    • Full Bandwidth Power: 22 watts RMS x 4 channels (at 4 ohms, 20-20kHz, 1% THD)
    • Maximum Output Power: 50 watts x 4 channels

6ch/2.5V Preamp Outputs + Sub Control: The KDC-BT558U features front, rear and subwoofer 2.5-volt preamp outputs. The front and rear speaker preamp outputs are balance and fade adjustable. The subwoofer preamp output is non-fading. The Kenwood KDC-BT558U offers the following subwoofer controls, when you are using unit's subwoofer preamp output.

    • Low Pass Filter: The receiver features a built-in Low Pass Filter control for the preamp-output, when the output is set to Subwoofer. You can select from 85 Hz, 120 Hz, 160 Hz, or off.
    • Subwoofer Phase: You can adjust the phase of the subwoofer output between 180-degrees (Reverse) or 0-degrees (Normal).
    • Subwoofer Level: Once the Subwoofer preamp output is activated, you can independently control the subwoofer preamp output level (-15 to +15) from the CD receiver.

Front & Rear High-Pass Filter: The KDC-BT558U features a High-Pass Crossover for the front & rear channels when your front & rear speakers are connected by the unit's speaker-outputs or preamp-outputs. You can adjust the high-pass crossover from "Through", 100, 120, or 150 Hz. The "Through" selection is a full-range setting.

Speaker Settings: The Speaker Setting function tailors the head unit's audio settings according to the type of speakers in your vehicle. You may select a Speaker Setting of 'SP-Off' (flat/off), 'SP-OEM' (for OEM factory speaker systems), 'SP-6x9/6' (for systems with 6" and 6"x9" speakers), or 'SP-5/4' (for systems with 4" and 5" speakers).

Preset EQ: Eight EQ curves are preset into memory, allowing you to recall the best preset EQ curve for different types of music. Each preset has its own level settings for bass, midrange, and treble . You can choose from the following preset EQ curves; Rock, Pops, Easy, Top 40, Jazz, Natural, Drive EQ, or User. The Drive EQ mode is an EQ preset that helps reduce road noise. The User mode allows you to manually adjust the head unit's Bass (200Hz) , Midrange (2.5kHz), and Treble (12.5kHz) level from +/- 8dB.

Note: You can store bass, middle and treble tone settings for each source (CD, AM/FM, Aux, USB, iPod, Bluetooth, and Pandora/iHeart Radio).

Sound Enhancements: The head unit provides further sound enhancements for your car audio system.

    • Bass Boost: The Kenwood CD receiver features a Bass Boost control that can be set to the following levels (BB1, BB2, BB3, or Off).
    • Loudness: This function enhances low and high frequencies to make the sound clearer lower volumes. There are 3 levels (LV1, LV2, or Off).
    • Sound Reconstruction: When MP3 or WMA files encoded at a low bit rate (less than 96 kbps, 44.1k, 48kHz) are played, the Sound Reconstruction function restores their high frequencies so the sound quality is closer to files encoded at a high bit rate. The processing is optimized for the compression format and the bit rate used. When Sound Reconstruction is Off, the unit plays the original sound stored in the audio file.
    • Volume Offset: The level of each source may be independently adjusted to prevent radical leaps in output volume when switching from one source to another. The available settings range from -8 to 0 (-8 to +8 for Aux source).

It is in wife's car so I just had opportunity to check. I'd say yes. The controls as I tested them are the left and right buttons which advance track. The up and down buttons go through folders but they can cross sub folders. For example if you had main folders of Rock, Country, Jazz, etc. Then folders under those of various artists, pressing up or down buttons in rock artists could jump across to country areas and all it displayed on ours was folder21, etc. But what you are asking is the better way, press search button then turning the knob displays selections in regular descriptive text..to go up a folder level press twice on search button then rotate the knob. This method actually works better than the up/down buttons. [ Jeff  Nov 21, 2014 ]
For details on fit or installation please contact an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They will be able to pull up your vehicle and give you the details on if this will fit and what you will need for an installation in your vehicle. [ Krissy  Sep 21, 2014 ]  Staff
Yes. I use it on my s3 all the time. Controls r a little different using the navigation wheel but all functions r there [ COREY ROBERT  Aug 28, 2014 ]
I don't think so. When I tried that , Pandora froze up.You'd have more luck taking Pandora off the stereo menu (so you don't pass it while going thru ) and using BT AUDIO instead. [ SCOTT  Aug 25, 2014 ]
    Yes you can. [ SCOTT  Aug 25, 2014 ]
Hi Jeremy, It sounds like your asking to remove the head unit from the dash to correct a failed install. If this is the case what needs to be done is to remove all trim work from around the radio of the dash and then remove the hardware that secures the housing holding the radio. The trim work around the radio is usually held on by push on clips that can be removed by gently but firmly pulling out by hand and using some leverage with a flat edge pry tool. (without knowing your vehicle this is most common) Once the trim is removed, at that point the housing holding the radio can be removed. The radio then can be separated from the housing by pushing the side tabs that hold it "in" and at the same time, pushing the radio out towards the front. No special tools should be needed. If the problem you have is with the rotation downward to release the head (display unit) from the the base, it may just be a bad alignment with the housing to the dash. If this is the case you will have continue with the uninstall and determine if the bezel trim surrounding the radio is needed and re-install without this piece attached. (It just snaps in place and easy to remove) You may also consider returning to the store and allowing them to correct the situation. Hope this was beneficial to you. Good luck. [ JOSEPH  Jul 14, 2014 ]
You may have to pull the head unit and dash kit as an assembly similar to the factory radio removal. Reason being is that the installer may have permanently attatched the head unit to the slide-in housing. Usually it's just a couple of screws that go through the housing into the head unit itself. It could also be that the tool you have is the wrong type. There is a handful of them that work with certain types of head units. Depending on the vehicle you're working on removing the stereo in the oem fashion is not very difficult. Hope this helps! [ Phillip  Jul 13, 2014 ]
Hi Jeremy. What I usually do is take the entire trim piece and the HU out together. Then once you get the whole thing on the workbench, you just bend back the metal tabs to slide it back out of the sleeve. I think this method would be easier than trying to release using those pullers. [ SCOTT  Jul 13, 2014 ]
My install kit had DIN pullers in it. I believe Kenwood included levers to take out the new unit I purchased if that became necessary. Have your friend contact Kenwood directly. Good luck! [ John  Jul 13, 2014 ]
You need the typical Kenwood strips that go in either side and release the head unit. [ Richard  Jul 12, 2014 ]
The ability to retain steering wheel controls with aftermarket receivers will be determined by the receiver you are using and the vehicle you have. For full information on this type of integration (including the parts you will need) please contact an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. [ Krissy  Jun 30, 2014 ]  Staff
    I have no idea. Sorry. [ KEN E  Jun 23, 2014 ]
    2 out puts [ VICTOR  Jun 23, 2014 ]
More than one subwoofer out put? Or stereo sub out? Only one set of subwoofer pre outs are one the back. The other two are fronts and rears [ COREY ROBERT  Jun 23, 2014 ]
I forwarded your question to an Advisor and they responded with the following: You can stream music wirelessly (Pandora, Rhapsody, SiriusXM, iTunes, etc.) and also do the hands-free calling. If you would like to discuss further you can contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. [ Krissy  Jun 22, 2014 ]  Staff
