The Bluetooth advantage
The DDX419's built-in Bluetooth lets you keep your hands on the wheel you receive a call. Your phonebook transfers easily to the receiver, so it's easy to make outgoing calls — you can even use voice dialing with compatible phones. And this Kenwood will play the music you've stored on your phone wirelessly.

App control
When your iPhone is connected to the DDX419's USB input, you can take charge of Pandora® Internet radio, with easy control over your stations, "thumbs-up" and "thumbs-down" ratings, and other major functions. You'll have access to streaming video sources like Netflix, too. You can watch on the built-in screen whenever you're parked, or add an external screen and wireless headphones so your passengers in the back can watch while you drive. And you can download Garmin's "Streetpilot" app for iPhone, then use the Kenwood's big screen for navigation.

More media choices
The DDX419 plays CDs and DVDs, along with recordable discs loaded with MP3, WMA, and AAC files. And of course you'll have control over the music and video content on your iPod. If you've got a gaming console or other A/V sources, plug them into the front or rear A/V inputs. This Kenwood also works with the SiriusXM tuner (not included) to bring you the fantastic music, sports, and entertainment offered by satellite radio.

Want to keep your car's steering wheel audio controls?
In most vehicles, you can use an adapter to connect your vehicle's steering wheel controls to this Kenwood stereo. Connect a few wires, then program the adapter for your particular car and this Kenwood, and you'll retain the convenience of your steering wheel controls.

Note: Bluetooth compatibility of this device may vary, depending on your phone and service provider.

Note: If you're going to use your iPod with this receiver, be sure to check Hands-on Research for specific iPod model compatibility with this receiver or its optional iPod adapter.

I have had this unit installed for 7 months n my Subaru. I like the ease of set up, the sound quality and a few other qualities. What I do not like are that the bluetooth microphone quality is very poor--have to hold up to your mouth to get decent voice out of it. I also am having routine and repeated lock up s on the unit. Especially when in XM radi0, the system will freeze an a station and only powering the unit off will allow you to navigate the unit.

Pros: Sound Quality. Ease of set up.

Cons: Freezes up. Blue tooth microphone

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I couldn't be happier with the DDX419 in my 2012 F150 Screw. Sound quality with the upgraded speakers I purchased is excellent...even without an amp. The interface isn't much for flash, but I'm a function first kinda person, so I don't mind. I personally don't have an iPhone, so I can't speak to those functions. What I can say is, the unit works well with my android device..both in telephone and bluetooth audio mode. Front USB works great if you want to tote your entire music library or photo album, just make sure you aren't in access of the number of folders (250 I think). With a little organization, you can access all your data no problem. Custom screen background and color changing is a cool plus as well. For me, I picked the perfect unit...especially for the price.

    Pros: Clean sound, screen quality...everything

Cons: Installed for a couple weeks and nothing yet

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I installed the DDX419 in my Tundra, using Toyota's factory speakers, adding an amp and sub. Sound quality is really very good, although there are many ways that it can be adjusted in the settings screen, which will require more reading on my part, to know what I am adjusting. The touch screen iPod control is cool, but song/artist searches are tedious, and should not be done while driving. I've had some complaints from hands-free phone listeners that the mike sounds fuzzy/garbled, however the bluetooth has performed otherwise very well. One disappointment was thinking I could use the rear USB port to leave the iPod always connected in the glove box, and not have a cord hanging out front, but the rear USB is dedicated to bluetooth, and is useless otherwise. Also, I ordered and connected the Kenwood back-up camera, which works well. Overall, I am very satisfied, and believe this unit is a good value for it's price.

Pros: Great sound quality. User-freindly bluetooth operation. Touch-screen is very cool.

Cons: No usable USB on the rear of the unit. Bluetooth mike is of questionable quality.

    Thought it would be better

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

When i bought this unit it was because it was Sirusxm ready, I also bought the Sirusxm adapter to go along with it. After installing both units and activating the XM i relized that if i took a phone call or left the XM screen it would freeze up..... still playing music volume would work but to change the preset it wouldn't change.I would have to turn the unit off and then back on and all would work fine. The only other complaint that i have with it is that if you pair an iPhone on the telephone and an iPod for blue tooth it will always go to the phone when blue tooth is selected. Other than that i like the unit. I still haven't watched a DVD on it yet.

    Poor Blue Tooth Performance!

Ron from Fort Worth on 12/29/2012

This head unit is beautiful and easy to ease... unfortunately, the telephone blue tooth performance is VERY poor. I moved the mic all over my car and simply couldn't find a good location. I tried the steering column, by the rear view mirror, and by my forehead. The only control is a gain setting and I tried all combinations. I did have the unit professionally installed. Anyhow, I finally returned the unit today and installed an Alpine IVE-W535HD (Car Toys cut me an amazing deal on this unit). And while the Alpine is more expensive the Blue Tooth performance is AMAZING! In fact, my "test group" who received calls from me when using the Kenwood and then again today with the Alpine said there is no comparison... they weren't sure if I was using the phone or Blue Tooth when calling through the Alpine.

Pros: Good looking unit and easy to use.

Cons: Blue Tooth performance (voice) is terrible.

    Awesome Unit Kenwood DDX419

Artney from New Orleans, LA on 11/30/2012

I just received this unit and had it installed the same day. Looks amazing, the finish came out great. At first, the only way to play music from my iPhone was to have the aux cord plugged in, because the standard iPhone USB cord would display all the information but would not play the sound. I chatted with Crutchfield support and they solved my problem in a snap. Turns out all I needed was the specific iPod cord designed for the unit, Kenwood KCA-IP22F iPod® cable. The guy also told me that if my bluetooth is hooked up, that I can play my music with out any cords which is a big plus for me. I was concerned about buying this Unit at first because some of the reviews said the microphone for the hands free calling was very difficult to use, but it works GREAT in my 2012 Nissan Frontier. The reason I gave it 4 stars in sound quality, is because the bass in my truck went way down and i couldn't find the bass control on the unit, but the chat with the Tech Support cleared that up as well. Overall, very very pleased with this unit.

Pros: Looks Great, Touch Screen is phenomenal, Cool features, Easy to use, Definitely value for money. Just everything is great.

Cons: Sound Quality wasn't to par at first, but after talking to Tech Support it couldn't be better.

Review after owning for several months

John from Tampa, FL on 11/28/2012

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have never been a big Kenwood fan but I was attracted to the DDX419 specifically because I needed a double din, and needed to be with in a specific budget. I have owned this radio for several months and am not the worlds biggest fan of this unit. You need to study the owners manual to know how to adjust simple things like bass, mid and treble, not to mention that you have to do this for each of the types of music sources that you are using. The radio settings for bass, mid and treble need to be set specifically for your iPod, Radio, Pandora, CD ect.... Other things that should be simple are not, such as selecting cross over setting's and Q factor. Its great that you can adjust these, I guess, if you know what your doing or what these settings mean. There is no description with in the owners manual as to even explain what the different cross over settings mean, specifically what they do or even what a Q factor is. Overall I like the radio, some of its features and for what it is, you cant beat the price in my opinion. I just wish the instruction manual had more detail and explanation in it. Kenwood, however did include three instruction manuals in the box though. Less expense on a global language customer base and more focus on the content of the manual in the market in which your selling too.

Pros: Inexpensive double din dvd, player.

Cons: Difficult to use, complicated sound adjustment settings. Add on's can exceed the price of the unit if you opt for all available add on features. Decent unit however far from great.

Kenwood DDX419 in 2007 Tacoma double cab

DBCSteve from Davis, CA on 11/18/2012

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

My son had installed this same unit in his older Tacoma, and it worked well with my iPhone 4S and iOS 6. The only criticism I read in several reviews was to make an effort to find the best location for the microphone. Installation was very straightfoward -- I wired in the supplied harness at the kitchen table using the Posi-Products Connector Kit, which made wire connections very easy. Removal and installation went according to directions, but there were usual challenges in figuring a few things out: use only three of the four screws per side to mount the factory brackets in the new unit, and use the original screws rather than the ones supplied by Crutchfield. When putting on the new faceplate, be sure to mount the supplied yellow clips on the four tabs -- I don't think the instructions covered this, but easy to figure out. The after market faceplate was a perfect fit and perfect match for both color and texture. The Kenwood paired easily with my iPhone and phone calls were pretty good -- not quite as good as the built in unit in my 2012 Prius. I placed the microphone on the upper left of the windshield, and routed it through the side panel with the grab handle. Bluetooth streaming is excellent, love the interface. It covers all I need and is still fairly simple to use with larger icons and a menu system that just makes sense. Sound quality is very good, and it probably limited by stock speakers. Be sure to use the equalizer -- makes a BIG difference!

Pros: Excellent fit and finish, excellent unit menus and controls. Like having a volume knob and front USB.

Cons: Would have liked both front and rear USB. Rear USB would allow me to plug in an extension cable to connect my iPhone / iPod out of sight.

    Steve from Guam on 11/18/2012

I am overall very happy with this unit. I was looking for a double Din unit with bluetooth for hands free phone use and use for an iPod and this one fit the bill at a nice price. Since it has an input for a backup camera I went ahead and installed one. Installation was fairly easy with the Crutchfield instructions but I did have to call to find the connection for the parking brake to my 2003 suburban. The bluetooth works okay except the mic took a lot of adjustments to make it tolerable for use. DVDs play fine except I rarely sit and watch movies when I am parked with the parking brake on.

Pros: Looks nice, big touch screen is easy to use, sounds good

Cons: blue tooth hands free mic does not sound as good as other products that I have

    decent first aftermarket head unit

scott from north florida on 11/15/2012

Overall, reasonably happy with my purchase. sound quality is just above stock unit. features are a little silly for someone who never has passengers in his car (video playback?), but i mainly just wanted a double din unit with ipod connectivity and a few creature comforts. build quality is great, doesn't feel cheap like a lot of head units. Price was reasonable at time of purchase. 4v outputs are welcome, as is composite video in for backup camera options. Bluetooth call quality could be improved, and why the USB a/v input isn't routed to the REAR of the unit with the Bluetooth adaptor taking up the front, I have NO idea. (other than charging more for a more sleek unit.) keeping a cable hanging from the front of your receiver is prettty tacky.

Pros: Fit and finish is great. Tactile response of knob and buttons is good. Backlight options are welcome depending on input/playback mode. Install was a breeze for someone who has never taken their car apart. Sound quality, as mentioned, is reasonable. video is nice for the size screen (but when am I going to use video?) crossovers work nicely and the filters aren't too wide.

Cons: Interface! Seriously, this is the first place this head unit fails. this interface is so abysmal that it feels like i'm stuck in 2004 when trying to navigate the controls. Paying kenwood a premium for their iPhone/ipod cable is extremely insulting. Bluetooth call quality with stock microphone is awful regardless of placement. Bluetooth audio playback is glitchy for the first song, but smooth after. No 4-band parametric eq (can't cost kenwood THAT much for such a crucial feature...).

I am very happy with the unit. It was easy to install and the sound is excellent. I like having Pandora Radio available, as well as the apps from my iPhone. It's like I added the Sync system to my Mustang for very little cost.

Pros: Pandora Radio is added with ease. The Bluetooth is excellent. The ability to change the units color is a major plus. The menu is easy to use and the setup was flawless.

Cons: Screen is dark when movies are being played. The unit did not come with a remote, so I had to order that separately. Having to change the sound options for every song is a little annoying. I have yet to find a CD that the unit actually has the information stored for. It doesn't list the name of the radio stations or the song that is playing.

Crutchfield is definitely the place to buy car audio. They sent everything you would have to go buy in a store, if you could find them.. cable adapters, mounting brackets, even a personized photo install manual for my specific SUV. The radio has everything except a GPS. It looks great over the stock radio, and sounds even better. I hooked up my Sirius, I bought the add-on. And connected my iPhone 4s and got Pandora. I haven't watched a movie on it, nor do i expect to. The radio plays great too. Just make sure you hook up the antenna correctly. Bluetooth speakerphone is also a plus feature, people do not even know i am on it, or they are just being nice. Great value, and if ou don't want to pay for a internal GPS, then get this one. I did a lot of homework and this was a wise choice.

Pros: Ease of install Nice screen Customizable main screen Sound quality Bluetooth Radio control of Pandora Good speakerphone

    Cons: Face not removable

I love Kenwoods even more after purchasing my DDX419. Kenwood have best quality and price. My other car all run eXcelon (speakers, deck, sub) enough said about Kenwood. So DDX419 is installed on an A4 and just looks perfect thanks to crutchfield for the free kit. DDx419 powers my speakers better than stock and has all the settings for bass, mids, and highs. Touchscreen is very good and responsive. Screen and picture quality are good too. Bluetooth worked right after pairing with my phone and everytime i get in the car or turn on my Bluetooth. streams all my music on my phone via Bluetooth even Pandora. And my wife loves how she can pair her phone and listen to her music files. DVD is also very good and had played every movie i tried watchingon different formats. .phone feature is cool with voice recognition but i still have to experiment with Mic thing, sometimes it works great but i also had comments where they said there was strong echo and distortion. I have yet to discover how i can watch Netflix.

Pros: Price and quality. Well Enough power for my speakers (audi symphony)

    Cons: Mic (sometimes)

Factory speakers but they sounded better with the factory stereo. Very disappointed in this Kenwood. Will be returned for something else. Not happy. Not looking forward to rewiring the entire thing.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The unit leave a bit to be desired. The picture quality on the screen for DVD/Netflix playback is rather poor. Even after adjusting the picture quality it only becomes so so. Was very disappointed to find out that the iPod cable had to be hooked up through the front of the unit as there were no provisions to do so on the back. Would have really liked to hide my iPod hook up. Also note that GPS through the iPhone is an extra $100. $50 for the app itself and then another $50 charge to "display externally". That was rather upsetting to find out. But overall the unit is not terrible. The response speed is good, it's functionality is average. I'm not disappointed in the product for the price I paid. But if I had to buy it again I would have spend more money in a better unit. If you're looking for a unit as a GPS also, save and spend the money on a nicer unit

Pros: It looks nice when turned off

Cons: Very misleading description, and hidden costs.

The Bluetooth worked flawlessly on first attempt. I was streaming music and making phone calls through it with in minutes. The install in the Lexus was time consuming as I had to bypass factory amp and extend wiring harness. Crutchfield tech support had informed me of this ahead of time and ensured I had all the right harnesses, cabling, a trim kits. Looks beautiful and sounds great. Also paired with a Kicker amp and sub woofer; what a great upgrade!

This unit is fairly easy to operate and the installation was easy with the provided kit from Crutchfield. The blue tooth streaming works well but it does not display the tag information on the screen. I am using an HTC EVO LTE and not an I phone so I don't know if that plays a role. The sound quality I have not gotten figured out just yet. I am running the unit through an alpine 360 4 channel amp and i have plok 6x9's in the front and Alpine 6.5" coaxial speakers in the rear. This thing should sound good but I think it lacks a bit but again it could be me at this point.

Purchased this unit after my Father got the DDX719. Was going for the same unit as him but spotted this little gem. I like the Volume knob and the hard buttons better then an inch more of screen. Had the stock unit pushing out to 2 new Kicker 6x9 up front and 2 new 6 1/2's in the rear. Old stocker was just a pitiful excuse for a radio.Did not hear much improvement over the cardboard ones. Got this unit, used the harness that Crutchfield set for free, had it posi twisted and installed with in 2 hours. Being massively color blind, I was a bit worried. With the Mastersheets was a breeze. Now my new speakers are amazing! They thump with authority! A great add-on is the iPhone cable, bit bulky when your using it but well worth the small hassle. Bluetooth streaming for your music and phone calls is nothing but perfect. Sirius tuner a must for the long trips. DVDs load quick and the picture is great. Had an old Kenwood folding face DVD years ago. Not a lot of options to make it match your style. This unit is perfect to change colors, wallpapers, you name it it can be changed! Love it!

Pros: Easy to use, iPhone cable a must but, the Bluetooth streaming is flawless!

Cons: None that I can see!

Recently bought this unit for a new car I got thinking it would be an awesome unit and man was I wrong. First day using the receiver noticed how incredibly slow it was! Second day noticed when selecting a song it would randomly pick a song for you in lou of your selection. Then came the random changes in songs. I don't know if I just got a lemon but it was not a good experience. I will say to absolutely get another unit. Thank gosh for the awesome people over at Crutchfield. They made the situation right.

Only problem while installing was the dash kit; the screws they gave me in that kit i was sent were too short to fit through the holes cut out in the plastic side plates to attach to the radio (took a ride to another retailer, spent 5$ for 1/2" #10-32 screws, Problem solved). This radio has so many settings, you could just sit there all day and tweak them to perfect the sound of each song. You must use the PAC adapter though - simplified everything!

Pros: Nice screen and display, sounds great, Bluetooth works fine

Cons: Sound quality could be just a tiny bit clearer for the price, but overall it's great

    Nice radio

Just had this installed in my 2010 ford expedition and love it! Also had a back up camera installed to it. So far the unit seems pretty nice. Its easy to work around, Bluetooth works great. The only complaint I have is the radio reception stinks. My factory head picked up more stations than this one. I took it back to installer and replaced the antenna adapter but no change. Looking to maybe add a booster to help but its really frustrating when you upgrade radio and lose reception.

Pros: Nice looking, Easy to work around.

    Cons: BAD radio reception.

The first thing that caught my attention was the sound quality. That is excellent. The look is awesome, and it's easy to use. Installation was also easy, even with having to hook up my steering wheel audio controls. Very pleased with the purchase, and would recommend this unit to anyone.

Pros: Sound quality, look, ease of use

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Installed in my 2005 Tundra JBL System using an iPhone 4S. Install went fine. PAC Module sold with unit to interface with JBL was terrible and only worked 50% of the time. had to return for 100% better Metra Access Module which is engineered much better. Ok to address some of the bad reviews: Music only from the front speakers, is solved with the Bluetooth setting 'front/all' Startup of unit is a little slow, but not annoying so. Yes the phone mic is not the best; I initially experienced complaints from callers regarding terrible sound quality, echo, and speaker cut off or choppiness. Nevertheless I found that three things will greatly improve the quality of the phone conversation: 1) Place the mic in the upper right corner of the windshield, instead of the visor or mirror, 2) There's a mic gain setting on the unit, I adjusted it to the lowest setting '+1' gain, and 3) Keep the volume on the head unit on the low side if conditions permit. These things eliminated the echo and choppiness. Unit doesn't crash, but does screen freeze periodically if you try to navigate too fast. Power off, then on, will clear. I live in Los Angeles. Stereo reception is fine. Unit does sound significantly better than factory stereo - there is better sound detail and better separation - it rocks! Front USB is a shortcoming on this unit, however I found that Bluetooth streaming is the way to go. I really can't discern any difference in sound quality other than with complete silence I hear a tad more white noise, but just barely with the volume most of the way up - at lower volumes no difference at all in quality. I'm never going to use this unit for DVD or Videos, but there only seems to be a brightness and blackness control for the screen. Over all for the price point, I'm very happy with the DDX419 and the backup cam is a nice bonus. I liked the Boyo IR License Plate Cam for night vision.

Pros: Great sound quality when integrated with my factory system.

    Cons: No rear USB port.

Had this unit prefessionally installed earlier this week and am loving it so far. My droid incredible links right up shortly after the unit is finished booting up, and bluetooth playback is seamless. The bluetooth feature for making and recieving calls is great, im sure I wont miss anymore calls due to loud music. I wish there were more features for android based phones though. I am anti apple, so some features will go unused.

Pros: Bluetooth playback for audio and making/receiving phone calls. Picture quality Sound quality

Cons: No support for android based phones

I had this unit installed earlier this week and absolutely love it! I've combined it with an old sony 250 watt amp, sony speakers in the doors, and mb quart 2 - 12" shallow subwolfer that you can buy on amazon for $70. The sound is awesome in my regular cab Chevy Colorado. I have a Samsung Galaxy Nexus phone and the bluetooth sounds perfect through it, idk why people say bluetooth sounds awful because it is in my opinion much crisper sounding than the AUX plugin... Overall, it looks great it is fairly easy to use and the installation was easy as Crutchfield provided all the necessary things to know. Only complaint is the Pandora app is limited to iPhone and the clock is way too small + on the far right hand side of the screen so when you're driving it is kinda hard to see.

Pros: Great equalizer, beautiful screen, works well with bluetooth.

Cons: Small clock. No android support.

This is what a $40.000 truck should sound like. Crutchfields service is the best in the business and everything to install all my gear was sent free with my order and worked great. The shipping was the best i have seen. I received my order the next day FREE!!

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have had it installed in my 2006 F-150 for several days, and I really enjoy this deck. Despite some mixed reviews here - the Bluetooth function works perfectly with my Samsung Galaxy S first generation, although the quality of the microphone leaves a little bit to be desired. It plays music and handles calls in excellent fashion. I'm not a huge sound fanatic, but I do appreciate the nice sound it produces. I'm sure those who are really, really into perfect sound could find a better sounding deck at a higher price range, but it does everythign I need with factory speakers. I haven't yet hooked up a rear camera or extra back-seat video monitor, but it was easy to stub out wires for these using the RCA and 1/8" plugs on the rear of the deck. Crutchfield free shipping was reasonably fast, and they gave me the proper dash kit, wiring harness, and AM/FM adapter. I will say the FM reception is not nearly as good as the factory deck, but I think that's to be expected with most after-market decks. I was mildly annoyed that it doesn't have speed-sensitive volume like my factor deck did - I'm not sure why you have to buy a much more expensive deck to get that feature. Another annoyance: with the Kenwood KCA-IP22F cable it still doesn't play video from my 3rd generation iPod Nano - I don't know if this is a deck problem, iPod problem, or what.

This is a nice unit for the price. I chose not to include a navigation system since I have a portable one. Probably would include it next go-around. The screen is clear, un- cluttered and easy to navigate. Install required some mods to the dash, which were minimal, this was mentioned on the site. It was just removing some plastic tab like things from the dash, which I did with a dremel..It looks good. The instructions specific for my truck were just that. Crutchfield did there homework! They made the install smooth. I purchased the plastic panel removal tool as well. Need this to keep from breaking the snap-tabs on the panels and it worked great. I got it installed and took it on a long road trip, I am pleased.

ZX10R203 from Central Valley, CA on 7/27/2012

Just installed this DD deck in my 2002 Ford Ranger. Major improvement to sound quality even with the OEM speakers. The blue tooth is a plus. I can easily answer the phone. Phone sound quality on my end is great but other side quality leaves a lot of room for improvement. If you talk too loud the mic will cut out on the receiving end. The ipod/iphone interface works well. A little slow to respond. Trying to skip a few songs ahead take a little while as it has too load each song info before you are allowed to skip to the next song. Otherwise it works great. The deck will not read and or display any Iphone/Ipod photos due to privacy agreements with Apple. The USB interface work great also. If you have multiple folders in one USB stick you can randomize within one fold are all. Also the USB and ipod plug is located on the front of the deck. So I have a wire hanging from my stereo at all times. Makes it very obvious to thieves that you have something plugged in. Huge down for me. My other deck in my other vehicle has a dedicated USB and ipod/iphone video jack in the rear so the cable can be hidden in the dash or console with the ipod/iphone tucked away out of sight.

Pros: Quality Sound Easy of use User Interface Controls Bluetooth and...

Cons: Delay in skipping songs on iphone/ipod - each song info must load before it can be skipped Will not display photos from ipohne/ipod USB and ipod/iphone jack located on front panel - so a cable is there hanging at all times.

Just replaced my factory radio in my Tacoma with the ddx419 and I couldn't be any happier. The unit was easy to install using Crutchfield's wiring harness and instructions. I also watched several YouTube videos just to make sure I knew what I was getting in to, as this was my first install. All went smoothly, just take your time and double check your connections and don't forget to plug in the microphone into the back of the receiver. (I did). The sound quality is amazing. Can't wait to upgrade the factory speakers DVD playback is great although there is significant glare through my non tinted windows. I'll rectify that soon. Grounded the parking brake wire to a screw behind glove box so my son can watch cartoons while I drive. So simple. Bottom line, I highly recommend this unit!

The only issue I have encountered is the system locking up and needing to be restarted occasionally. It is random and doesn't happen everyday. It is a known issue with Kenwood and is apparently better since the latest update, but it still happens ocasionally. If they get the firmware updated to resolve this issue I would rate the unit a solid 5 in build quality. I really hope they get the firmware updated again soon, because other than the rebooting issue I love this unit.

Pros: Plays all media I have, good sound quality, flexible EQ, ability to use it as a Nav Unit with an iPhone app.

Cons: Firmware needs updating again to resolve the reboot issue.

This is a very nice radio. I just had it installed this morning. It is pretty intuitive having a touch screen. I look forward to connecting some amplification through it. I do a a few complaints though . 1st. The blue tooth sound terrible to the person your speaking with, they hear their voice echo and it sounds like your speaking to them in a can. The 2nd is I wish the clock was bigger. Other than that, I think I'm gonna enjoy this radio.

This unit was purchased to replace the factory head unit in an 07 Frontier. Installation was a complete snap and the harness and dash kit worked like a charm. The finished product is flawless. The menus are easy to navigate and learn, the interface is clean and crisp, and the setup was a snap. I installed the SiriusXM SXV200V1, and installation for that was a breeze as well. This is my second Kenwood dash unit and once again, they did not let me down. The sound coming from the factory speakers sounds exponentially better. Still will be replaced, but it works for the time being. The only drawback I have experienced is people on the other end of the phone saying I am a bit hard to hear. This might be a microphone location issue, but not completely sure. I would have to hear it myself.

Pros: Ease of use and installation, sound quality

Cons: No rear USB access...entry for this is the 719. Microphone not picking up voice well.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Installation was a breeze thanks to the Crutchfield supplied dash kit and simple wiring connections. The unit's microphone for voice recognition was mounted to the upper roof liner with the cable run around the windshield trim and down through the dash. That proved to be more trouble than it was worth as the voice command option with the phone is totally useless. The unit does not recognize anything correctly and after too many times saying "no" and cancelling, I've given up. Otherwise, the unit is great in other respects with amazing sound and bright clear display. I only wish the unit had rear USB/iPOD hookups...not sure whay any units still have them on the front panel.

Pros: Sound quality is spectacular with great control of highs, mids, bass, and subwoofer. Display is sharp and uniform and the menus are pretty straight forward. Bluetooth audio streaming makes playing my iPOD completely wire free and is handy when I just want to play a genre, playlist, or all songs on random.

Cons: Voice recognition is a wasted feature on this unit. Front panel USB/audio has forced the unit to have other buttons jammed too close to the volume knob...awkward for bigger hands.

I purchased this unit for my '05 F150. As with every purchase from Crutchfield, they provided the needed parts for a seamless install. A quick solder job with some heat shrink tubing and the unit was ready to be plugged into the factory harness. The trim/mounting kit fits perfect for a great finish. I think the unit is great, the menu system is laid out nicely, but it may be a little hard to navigate for the first time users. There are great features including the systemQ which allowed me to dial in the eq curve for the front, rear and sub channels. The dedicated subwoofer outs allowed me to ditch my Kenwood eq and use this unit exclusively. I was able to update the firmware without issue (however it does take 30 minutes to update). I played Pandora & Ipad2 through both bluetooth and usb without issue, it played from a usb stick great. I was able to connect my phone and download the contacts without issue. I added a personal background image easily. It played both cds and dvds with ease. The screen is clear and bright. This unit is packed with features. I really like the 4volt preamp outputs, it better utilizes my amp's power and provides a clean signal. I noticed in other reviews stating that it only plays through the front speakers with Bluetooth/Pandora, there is a setting to allow ALL speakers to play for this, just gotta set it that way (not sure why this is set front only as default)

Pros: Full of features and options. Great sound, and systemQ.

Cons: Needs special cable to connect Apple products.

    cr250.57 from Oregon on 7/10/2012

I have owned Kenwood for decades but had to sell this deck after two months and buy the Pioneer 4400. I really like the flow of the menu items and the sound quality was superb. The pandora control is pretty good too. The bluetooth phone/mic control was garbage quality, I could not use this for talking to clients. Streaming bluetooth audio did not yield any quality. I was usually done backing up and going forward before the deck was powered up and camera visible. USB on the front was my initial shock along with the Kenwood cable that could reach the back seat, ended up zip tying that so not the crowning piece of the install. I am loving my first Pioneer deck and not using any more cables!

    Pros: menu navigation, price.

Cons: Bluetooth audio and phone worthless, slow startup in comparison, USB and cable in front make a mess of this showpiece.

I purchased this unit for a 2007 Jeep Wrangler and was surprised by sound quality difference it made with my system. Per some of the other comments, the back channels have be setup to work with Bluetooth. Overall, this a great unit for the price with Bluetooth, USB front access, Pandora, and iPod controls. The installation in the Jeep Wrangler is easy minus getting the metal bracket out of the back of the bay. There is a USB connection on the back of the unit but this for the BlueTooth connection. I have flirted with putting a hub of the unit to see if I can add an additional connection for the iPhone.

Pros: Nice interface for the price. Plenty of options and quality sound with factory speakers in 2007 Jeep Wrangler. Plays video while driving with some easy modifications.

Cons: There were some headaches with finding the rear speaker controls for Bluetooth, I had to update the firmware from Kenwood's website to get my iPhone 4S to work properly and there is not USB on the back of the unit for auxiliary connections.

Great Unit - Garmin App misleading...

Flyboy92021 from San Diego, CA on 7/5/2012

This unit was a pleasant surprise. After some research we thought it would be the best for our needs with the exception of one thing (see below). The time to operate the unit is quick from start-up (we have an expensive Pioneer unit in our other vehicle and ti is so sloooow). Screen resolution and clarity is one of the best for the price. As for the Bluetooth for making calls - one of the best in the market. Very little background noise and very clear according to everybody we call. Beats the one in my new Acura (people think I am always driving with my window down). Now for the bad part - the Garmin Nav App for the iPhones 4S. Ok $50.00 is not to bad but THEN you need another APP for $40+ to display on the DDX419 screen WHAT??? Come on now up to $100 - still plugged into the iPhone while we could just buy a portable Garmin unit for $99 anywhere. BTW, if you download the APP for the Sat Nav would would thing it would be obvious where to get the display software - nope - they are so embarrassed by it that they hide it from the website. I feel cheated... Then POI's suck - looking to test it to go to the movies - near our place there is a large shopping center with Regal Theaters inside, well not listed in the POI section! Also the video quality of the Nav app to the Kenwood is very poor this beautiful screen can do great high quality video - but when you display the Nav app on the screen it goes to low resolution. Why???

Pros: Excellent bluetooth. Easy to use and control.

Cons: Garmin - rip-off. $100+ to display it on screen - come on get real!

RT from Atlanta Ga on 6/6/2012

Bought this unit because of info given on Crutchfield detail info page. They said it was compatible with Android phones. After having it professionally installed in my 2008 Corvette,it WAS NOT compatible with my Droid X Andriod phone. Not even close. Even downloaded the Kenwood music app. After calling Kenwood, they said this unit was not compatible. On there list of units from $99.00 to $300.00 but not this unit.( I find this odd). It only gets worst. Reception on FM stations was horrible. They found out this unit was defective and replaced it with a brand new one. The new one is not much better. FM stations fade in and out (I live in the Atlanta area, not in the sticks) So with no Android controls and bad reception, I am forced to go with Pioneer. It really sux because I have always bought Keenwood. Don't really know it has to do with Kenwoods affillation with JVC or not, but they need to address this problem. It is still a little buggy and will occasionally reset but you can leave the phone running with pandora running in the background. Spotify now works great on the Kenwood when in iPhone mode. And most of the funky bluetooth issues are gone now too. Turns it is the iPhone software - not the Kenwood!

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I like this device so far but it really is lacking compared to what I expected these products should do by now. I expected a far wider range of video playback, I can't get it to play anything expect dvd's even though it states mpeg 2 and mpeg 1. I think at this point in time these companies should not be so in bed with Apple and should support all phone operating systems, Pandora for example, this is obviously just a software issue and I should not have to pay twice as much to be able to control Pandora on my Android phone, which outnumbers iOs devices by at least 2 times, it is even funnier because it costs money for these companies to support Apple devices, Android is open source. SiriusXM Hardware for this device is cheap and I love that fact. There is one problem with this device, after a week of owning it I decided to upgrade to the newest firmware and afterwards I started getting random reboots, touch screen wouldn't respond and sometimes I couldn't even turn it off, it would turn the volume up, lol. This problem seems to be caused by the newer firmware because after Crutchfield sent me a replacement device the problem is no longer present, it has an older firmware, so I am hoping Kenwood will realize there is a problem and release a firmware to fix this problem.

Pros: SiriusXM hardware is cheap. Bluetooth works well. sounds a lot better than my factory stereo.

Cons: video playback formats. non apple device support. firmware issues.

I got this so I could use my iPhone and iPad on it for long trips from NC to FL and NC to Canada. The features it has are some of the best out there but only when they actually work. The video cord works but image quality is not the best on Netflix and the output to a second monitor requires a button hold and you have to do that multiple times to get back to the output if you had it on something else This should have been a single press action. Now for the real reason I put it at a 2 stars. It has rebooted on me at least twice a day. It seems to always happen as I try to configure the EQ to sound good with my subs. Also it seems to forget the changes I make so each morning I have to configure again but here is the gotcha part the same settings don't seem to have the same results each time. The sub controls will make it loud one day and make no difference the next. I reboots in configuring that all the time making strange noises to the sub as it reboots. I called the Kenwood and they had me update the firmware (took 30 minutes) but all the same. Also bluetooth has tons of issues on its own which has been said all over this site. I am going to call crutchfield and see if I can return for a Pioneer or something else. I have never had any luck with Kenwood

Pros: iPhone and iPod integration Plays Netflix video

Cons: Reboots a lot and is not good. Does not store settings Oh it reboots all the time, did I mention that. Stay away

Good but has some quirks --- wish I'd bought from Crutchfield!

Andre S from Salt Lake City, Utah on 4/1/2012

Overall I give it about 4 starts in pretty much all categories. I've had it for a few months now and am a fan. Sound is excellent, usability is descent other than some quirks below. I would buy again. The issues: - Intermittent usability with my iphone, sometimes Bluetooth works, sometimes it doesn't, sometimes I've connected but the phone doesn't work, but overall about 70% of the time it works. I imagine this will get fixed in later models with software updates. I'm going to try this and see if it makes a difference. - Second is you have to get the most expensive cord and this comes out of the face of the front and is bulky and ugly. I wish I'd gone up a level and gotten the one where the cord plugs into the back and route the cord out somewhere in the center console or so. - When you plug in the iphone it automatically defaults to ipod mode, and I hardly use my iphone as an ipod. The unit works awesome as an ipod controller though. In short, it's a couple years behind the curve as a pandora / Spotify / modern day head unit. - When you leave pandora app on your phone it will not play. Need to check and email or something - music stops. Retarded. - The head unit freezes and resets maybe once a week. It does load quickly though. - The microphone stopped working. - Other than that, pretty good, and bluetooth music mode even sounds pretty good as well. - I wish I'd bought from Crutchfield so I could address these issues with ease.

Pros: Nice and clean, great looking, good features especially for the buck.

Cons: The software quirks and retarded old school Japanese designs. I feel like I'm in an old Nintendo game. Kenwood really needs to get with it and hire some people who are in charge of "user experience." Because everyone else sucks too does not mean that Kenwood should. They should just knock off the iphone format, or bring the iphone interface right to the head unit and be done with it, then it would be an excellent unit.

    Great Buy

    2003 Chevrolet Silverado 2500/3500
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I installed this in a 2003 Chevy Silverado 2500HD Ex.Cab on March 17th 2012. Cructchfield shipped on time and with everything I needed. Looks like a factory fit and sounds great with the new speakers. Infinity 6032si and 6432cf. DVDs look and sound good. Bluetooth phone conversations sound good. Used Metra's VT-GMRC-01 chime it works great.

Pros: So far everything but ease of use

Cons: Ease of use - The only issue is changing functions or radio stations because its a touch screen you cant "feel" for a button and have to look down.

It's okay but nothing to write home about

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I like the fast shipping time. Normally I don't use UPS because they're ground shipping is so slow. Scheduled for Monday but arrived on Friday. Everything I needed for the install was included. Stereo is nice but I am not sure I would by this one again.

Pros: Blue tooth works great with my phone - the reason I bought this in the first place. Figured it was cheaper to keep my Ridgeline and install a new stereo than to buy a new truck. Tacomas are expensive!

Cons: The unit needs two cables or the special cable to work to connect an iPod. Really? Not so with my friend's Sony. One iPod cable and he's set.

    Not hating it.

Everything is working as described. Everything is easily accessible and easy to use. It took a ho-hum stock system and really made it sound fantastic.

    Pros: Everything

Cons: I keep pressing the menu button when I adjust the volume. Operator error.

    Love it!

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Love the DDX419. Sounds really good in my Tundra with the JBL system. Makes everything sound much clearer. Only complaint would be the ipod hook up being in the front. Not sure why Kenwood don't just run the plugs from the back and include them with the radio instead of charging more. I have no problems with seeing the screen even when a movie is playing. Save $$$ and get this instead of a built in nav unit.

    Pros: everything

Cons: ipod plug in the front and have to buy the ipod cable

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased this Kenwood DDX419 because Kenwood used to make quality products back in the 90's and I thought I would give them a chance. Well I was proven wrong as the unit malfunctioned from the begining. The front 3.5 jack didn't work it would only output sound from one side, what a horrible location to put the ipod jacks. The unit would also peridoically shut down and then have to reboot. It was very random but it happened at least once a day. On top of all thw quality issues the screen resolution looked terrible and the colors where really unbalanced. I could not find a way to ajust the color, hue or saturation. The only two controls I found for the screen was a bright and a black level. If your on the fence save your money and buy the Pioneer AVH-P4400BH its a way better unit in every way.

Pros: Good sound, when it worked. Bluetooth worked great, Good stereo reception

Cons: Terrible build quality, DVD's looked horrible on the screen as the colors where way ou of adjustment

    2004 Pontiac Vibe
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This review based on initial purchase and installation. I purchased Kenwood because I recently put a KDC-X995 with amp and sub in my truck and am very pleased with the sound. I installed it in a 2004 Vibe with kenwwood KFC-X173 speakers. At 50W per channel (they don't say if that's Peak or RMS) it does not need an amp and sounds great. The only thing that would make it sound better is if I had realized the Vibe had tweeters in the sail panels and purchased component speakers for the front doors. Once again Crutchfield supplied everything required for the install. The only problem was that Kenwood does not explain the function of the "parking sensor" wire anywhere in the manual, I thought it was for parking sensors and camera so I did not connect it as I am not installing those. I did find a reference to it in the Troubleshooting section. It was not until I tried to capture a picture for the background that I found out it would not display video or stills unless in park and kept displaying "parking off". Now I have to pull it out, find wiring diagrams for the car and rip out the dash to hook up the wire (I could defeat it by connecting to ground) or remove the console and carpet to go to the lever switch. The "coolness factor" would be off the scale if it displayed visualizations like media player.

Pros: Great sound, touchscreen is nice, looks good, bluetooth,

Cons: Manual/install instructions could be a little better, clock display could be much larger with all that screen real estate, can't change color of display items (only buttons).

Kenwood did good on this one

    2009 Kia Optima
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Beyond anything you could expect for this price range of units. Completely transformed the sound of my 2009 Kia Optima's factory speakers and the two 12" sub woofers I currently have. As far as the unit's functions and features, everything works extremely well including the bluetooth wireless capabilities. I had my brother (MECP advanced installer) install the unit along with axxess steering wheel control module with zero issues. Best place to mount microphone for bluetooth is clipped to the vehicle's ceiling (behind the visor where it meets the windshield), then running the wire along the pillar into the dash to hide it. Crutchfield hooks it all up and is worth the extra money then some websites offer. Love this unit! Go Kenwood!

Pros: Easy to use and customize. Great EQ and speaker customization. Bluetooth works great (as long as you don't have the volume up loud while our talking) and great looking unit. Perfect unit for the price and fully upgradable.

Cons: Pandora and app function is only for iPhone and iPod. What about people with Andriod? Otherwise, nothing it does what it should.

    2006 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is a very nice headunit. The installation was easy enough. It sounds great on my 2006 Chevy Crew Cab and looks cool. It allowed me to to go completely wireless with my iphone 4 and my ipad 2. Excellent blue-tooth capabilities. The Garmin USA OnBoard App works OK but you will need to spend 100 bucks to get it to work. 50 for the app and another 50 for the vehicle display. The menus are easy to navigate and use. I am very pleased with this unit as this was my very first install and everything worked with my factory Bose system with OnStar.

Pros: Awesome wireless blue-tooth controls phone and streams music. Easy to use menus. Sounds and looks great.

Cons: If you have to reset the unit (like after a firmware update) all your presets will be lost for both phone and radio. Garmin App needs some work but will give you a heads up display on the unit if you pay the 100 bucks.

    Very Nice

CSP from Inver Grove Heights, MN on 2/12/2012

Easy to use and setup. The installation was very straightforward and I had little trouble as this was my very first install. The unit looks and sounds great in my 2006 Chevy Silverado Crew Cab LT3 with Onstar and Bose speakers. Menus are easy to use and it works great with my iphone 4 and my ipad 2. My goal was to make everything wireless and this unit did not disappoint. Beware if you want to use the Garmin App to display on the head unit it will cost you 100 extra bucks. The screen is sharp and clear when playing DVDs but this is not the reason I bought it. Kudos to Crutchfield's support team as they answered all my questions during the install. I would recommend this product.

Pros: Sounds great. Easy menus and very customizable. Looks awesome in my truck. Bluetooth is flawless.

Cons: After resetting the unit after firmware update you lose all your presets and clock. Garmin Streetpilot Onboard is 50 bucks with another 50 to make the on screen navigation work. In my opinion Garmin's app needs work but OK for now.

    Very Nice

CSP from Inver Grove Heights, MN on 2/12/2012

Very good receiver and very easy to use. The sound is excellent so far with my factory Bose system in my Chevy Silverado Crew Cab. The install was pretty easy and everything works. The bluetooth capabilities are excellent and for the most part everything I use it with is completely wireless. The Garmin app feature is 100 bucks and works OK not great. It does look sweet in my truck. The only thing that bothers me is when you reset the unit after a firmware update it resets all your preset stations and phone presets but that's pretty minor. All in all I am happy with it.

Pros: Can make everything thing completely wireless with bluetooth. Sounds great. Customizable menus.

Cons: Garmin app costs 50 bucks that works with it plus another 50 for it to display on the screen. Presets will reset if you have to reset the unit.

    New & improved!

still2grumpy from PSL FL on 2/10/2012

Well, I just installed the newer version for Kenwood's DVD receiver. I can't say enough good things about my opinon for Kenwood's equipment. I believe that what ales in the DDX418, must have been corrected in the DDX419. Bluetooth connected to my Motorola Photon, no problem, uploaded the phonebook, mutes the music when in a call. Ipod connection works just as should, using a standard ipod connector that comes with Ipod's, still shows menu's playlists, able to scroll and make choices right on the screen, no special cable needed, unless you want to watch movies.I am still in the process of connecting back up cameras to the front and rear, so I can't comment on these yet, but appears straight forward, to install. Overall, I am very pleased with out of the box performance, vs. the China made, nav receiver, I am replacing. The sound on the Kenwood, is very easy to customize, even with a factory sub. Great sound without a need to add an amp. I will post back, once I finish all the other add-on's for a more complete review. If your looking's a great deal, on a solid piece of equipment.

Pros: easy to read & understand install manual, straight forward menu keys, good sound performance, ease of options. Update on frimware available on Kenwood site to improve Ipod functions.

Cons: Downside--USB on back is still only for the bluetooth dongle. I was hoping to have 2 connections, to have Ipod connection on the back, to hide wires.

Custom Background Images: You can download a still image for use as the unit's background from a connected USB thumbdrive.

Multi-Language Display: For your convenience, this unit is equipped with a multiple language display. You can select the language which is best suited to your first language - English, French, Spanish, German, Italian, Dutch, Russian, Portuguese, Chinese (simplified/traditional), Thai, Turkish, Arabic, Persian, Hebrew, or Greece.

Note: For connected external monitors; only English, French, Spanish, German, Italian, Dutch, Russian, and Portuguese are available.

Front Panel Controls with Variable Color Illumination: In addition to the touchscreen controls, the unit includes frequently used buttons and a rotary-dial along the left edge of the screen. You can adjust the head unit's button illumination from the following preset colors - Blue, Purple, Sky Blue, Yellow, Green, Amber, Red, Pink, White or Scan (Scans through all preset colors). You can also select a custom "User" color that is adjusted between Red, Green, and Blue (values range: 0-31).

Note: The Eject and Kenwood logo remain red, regardless of variable color illumination setting.

Parking Brake Detection: To prevent the display of video while the vehicle is in motion, the light green wire (attached to the rear-chassis) must be connected to the vehicle's parking brake detection circuit. While the vehicle is in motion (parking brake off), you can still view all of the other displays and menus.

Dimmer: The dimmer function will dim this unit's display and button illumination automatically when the vehicle light switch is turned On when you connect orange/white Illumination wire of this player's harness. You can also manually dim the unit's display and button illumination.

Security Indicator: The Security Indicator feature helps to protect the Kenwood DDX419 against theft. Turning this function "On" allows the security indicator light (red) on the front-panel of the head unit to flash when your vehicle's ignition is off.

2-DIN Chassis: The DDX419 has a 2-DIN chassis (also known as Double DIN or size DD), and will fit in many vehicles with a large dash opening. The unit can be ISO-mounted using factory brackets, or Euro-mounted using the supplied mounting sleeve.

Note: As always, please consult Crutchfield's Outfit My Car to verify fit with your vehicle.

    Built-in Bluetooth

USB Bluetooth Adapter: The Kenwood DDX419 comes supplied with a USB Bluetooth Adapter (KS-UBT1) which is pre-installed into the head unit's rear-panel USB input, making the DDX419 Bluetooth 2.0 certified. The DDX419 supports Bluetooth hands-free communication and wireless audio streaming.

Note: The USB Bluetooth Adapter (KS-UBT1) must remain plugged into the rear-panel USB port, and cannot be installed in the head unit's front-panel USB port. The rear-panel USB port can only be used for the included Bluetooth adapter; not compatible with USB memory devices.

Bluetooth Technology: Bluetooth is a two-way wireless communication system allowing you to make and receive phone calls wirelessly from your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone, as well as wirelessly stream audio from your Bluetooth enabled portable music player using the Kenwood in-dash multimedia receiver. Bluetooth wireless technology operates on a 2.4GHZ frequency band within a range of approximately 10 meters (about 33 feet).

Bluetooth Profiles: In order to use Bluetooth wireless technology, your phone must also be Bluetooth compatible and be able to interpret certain profiles. This unit is compatible with the following Bluetooth Profiles:

    • Hands-Free Communication: HFP (Hands Free Profile), OPP (Object Push Profile), PBAB (Phone Book Access Profile).
    • Audio Streaming: A2DP (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile), AVRCP (Audio/Video Remote Control Profile).

Pairing: Your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone must be paired with the DDX419 before hands-free operation. You can register up to five Bluetooth enabled cell-phones with the Kenwood head unit (only one paired phone can be used at a time).

Note: Due to the differences in Bluetooth technology, some Bluetooth enabled devices may be incompatible, function improperly, or may not support all features when used with the Kenwood DDX419. Visit for a complete list of compatible Bluetooth enabled phones.

External Microphone: The Kenwood DDX419 includes an external microphone to carry on your side of your phone conversation and voice command dialing. The external wired microphone offers improved audio quality versus an integrated microphone, so you can be heard easier over noisy traffic and road noise. You can adjust the level of the microphone without affecting the volume level of other sources. The external microphone features an attached 10' cable terminated by a right-angle 3.5mm connector which plugs into the mic input on the rear-panel of the head unit. The microphone offers an integrated mounting bracket which can be clipped to your vehicle's sun-visor or taped to your dash. The external microphone measures 0.525" (diameter) x 1.485" (depth).

Note: This unit does not offer an integrated front-panel microphone.

Bluetooth Hands-Free Communication: The head unit supports Bluetooth hands-free communication for your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone. The controls of the DDX419 can be used to dial a number, answer an in-coming call, or end a call. The unit also features an integrated microphone (featuring adjustable gain), so you can carry on your side of the conversation while listening to the caller through your vehicles speakers (front or all). During a conversation, you can switch between the Private Mode (talking directly on your cell phone) and the Hands Free Mode.

    • Answering a Call: When a call comes in, a ring-tone will be heard through your vehicle's speaker and the caller's name or phone number will be displayed. You can answer the call from the head unit's touchscreen, or setup the head unit to automatically answer the incoming call within 5 seconds. The DDX419 also supports the Call Waiting function, so you can answer another incoming call while suspending the current call you are on. Your compatible cell-phone must also support this feature.
    • Dialing a Number: Using the DDX419, you can dial a phone number in one of the following ways:
      • Entering a Phone Number: Allows you to directly dial a phone number up to 32 digits from the head unit's touchscreen.

Each number can be up to 32 digits long and each name can be up to 50 characters long. You can do an alphabetical search (A-Z) to find your desired contact.
      • Call Log: The Call Log is a list of calls that have originated from and were received by this unit that you can dial. You can select Outgoing, Incoming, or Missed calls (up to 50 each).
      • Voice Dialing: If your mobile phone supports voice recognition, then you can dial out by voice command. Simply speak into the included microphone.

Note: This unit allows you to answer a call or dial out using any option without engaging the parking brake.

SMS: If your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone is compatible with SMS (Short Message Service), the Kenwood head unit will notify you when a message has been received. You must then use your phone to check to the message.

Note: You cannot read, edit, or send a message through this unit.

The DDX419 will be able to control basic playback functions of your Bluetooth device's stored music; such as Play/Pause, Next/Previous Track, Fast Forward/Rewind, and Random/Repeat. The head unit will also display your stored music's song information; such as Artist name and Song/Album title. The DDX419 also supports audio streaming of music apps (such as iHeartRadio, SiriusXM,, Rhapsody, & Slacker), but without control or metadata. You will continue to use your Bluetooth enabled smartphone to view and control streaming music apps.

Note: When an incoming call or outgoing call is in progress from your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone, audio streaming will be paused so you can take your call. Once the call is finished, your streaming music will resume.

Folder/Track List: The Folder/Track List allows you to search folders and audio/video/picture files stored on a disc.

Playback Screen: During DVD playback, you can control certain operations simply by touching an area of the screen. The touchscreen has 4 functions areas. You can touch the left of the screen to start the current chapter over, or the right of the screen to skip to the next chapter. Note: There is also a rear-panel USB port used to connect the included USB Bluetooth adapter. The rear-panel USB port cannot be used to connect a USB memory device.

iPod/iPhone Connectivity: The Kenwood DDX419 supports audio/video playback from select Apple iPods and iPhones.

    • Audio/Video Playback: The Kenwood DDX419's front-panel USB (type-A) port and front-panel 3.5mm A/V AUX input allow you to connect your Apple iPod/iPhone using the Kenwood KCA-iP22F iPod cable (113KCIP22F, sold separately). The unit's USB port handles the control, metadata display, and charging of your iPod/iPhone. You can navigate through your music and video files using the head unit's touchscreen controls and view song and movie info on its display, while your iPod/iPhone charges. The 3.5mm AV input handles audio and video transfer from your iPod/iPhone to the Kenwood DDX419. By using the Auxiliary input, the music travels to the receiver as an analog signal, so you can even play the Digital-Rights-Protected files you've stored on your iPod/iPhone. The unit's front-panel AV input must be set to "iPod" in order to playback audio/video from your connected iPod/iPhone. Video can only be displayed while the vehicle is in park.
    • Audio Only Playback: If you only want to playback audio from your iPod or iPhone, you can simply connect it to the DDX419's USB port using either the USB/iPod dock cable that came with your iPod/iPhone or Kenwood's iPod Direct Connect Cable (113KCIP102, sold separately). This 1-wire USB connection bypasses the iPod/iPhone's DAC and sound quality is maximized through the head unit's 24-bit D/A converter, allowing for a Signal-to-Noise ratio up to 99dB. The unit's front-panel AV input must be set to "AV-IN2" in order to use the 1-wire USB connection. You will not be able to play Digital-Rights-Protected files.

Note: If you have an iPod nano (7th gen), iPod touch (5th gen), or iPhone 5; use the Lighting-to-USB cable that came with your Apple device to connect to the head unit. These Apple devices only support audio playback (no video output).

iPod Control: You can choose to control your connected iPod/iPhone from the head unit, from the iPod/iPhone's clickwheel or touchscreen, or from select apps streamed to your iPhone.

    • Head Unit Control Mode: The Kenwood head unit allows you to navigate your iPod's music library by Playlist, Artists, Album, Genre, Composer, Song, Podcast, or Audiobook. Your iPod's video library can be searched by Video Playlist, Movie, Music Video, TV Show, Video Podcast, Rented Movie, or iTunesU. You can then search each of these categories using the head unit's touchscreen slider function. The head unit also supports Repeat (track) & Random (album) playback functions of your connected iPod/iPhone.
    • iPod/App Control Mode: The iPod/App control mode allows you to control stored audio/video content from your connected iPod/iPhone's clickwheel or touchscreen. This is very useful for the person riding in your passenger seat. The iPod/App mode also lets you listen to your favorite music apps, such as iHeartRadio, SiriusXM,, Rhapsody, & Slacker streamed to your iPhone (iOS 3.0+) through the Kenwood head unit and your vehicle's speakers. You can even watch video on the Kenwood DVD receiver's touchscreen from streaming movie apps, such as Netflix & YouTube, downloaded on your iPhone 4/4S (iOS 4.0+), via the Kenwood KCA-iP22F iPod cable (sold separately). The App Mode's video functions can only be accessed when the vehicle is in park and the hand-brake is fully engaged. Not all apps will be compatible with App Mode and App Mode will provide only limited (basic), if any, control over the app. Available controls may include - Play/Pause & Skip Previous/Next.

Note: Access to your iPhone's downloaded applications will depend on the availability of a cellular and/or WiFi network for purposes of allowing your iPhone to connect to the Internet.

iPod/iPhone Display: The Kenwood DDX419 will display your iPod/iPhone's music file information when you are controlling your iPod or iPhone from the Kenwood multimedia head unit. The head unit will display Track number, Elapsed playing time, Artist name, Song title, and Album label. The unit will also display Album Art. If you choose to operate your connected iPod/iPhone in iPod/App Control Mode, the DDX419 will not display your iPod/iPhone's music information (the head unit will instead display 'iPhone App and iPod Control Mode + Parking Off').

iPod Charging: The head unit's USB connection provides 1A of current to power and charge your connected iPod/iPhone when your vehicle's ignition switch is set to the 'ACC' or 'On' position. This unit does not charge the iPad.  If your iPod/iPhone has no initial battery charge, then the unit will not recognize it.

Pandora App: Pandora is the leading Internet Radio music service in the United States, giving people music they love anytime, anywhere, through personalized radio stations. The free Pandora app lets you play music from the Pandora music service through the Kenwood DDX419 using your connected Apple iPhone, via the Kenwood KCA-iP22F iPod cable (sold separately), or the USB/Dock cable supplied with your iPhone. To access Pandora you must have an Apple iPhone (iOS 3.0 or later) with the latest version of the Pandora application from Apple's iTunes App Store. Your iPhone will need an active Data Plan account with connection to the Internet via 3G, EDGE, or WiFi. You will also need a Pandora music service account. The DDX419 will provide control over the Pandora music service & display Artist, Album, & Song information (including Album Art).

    • Station List: You can select Pandora stations from your Station List by date or alphabetically (A-Z).
    • QuickMix: QuickMix allows you to listen to songs played on one or more Pandora stations in your Station List randomly. You will need to edit your QuickMix station selections on the iPhone before connection.
    • Skip Songs: You can skip song tracks within a station. You cannot skip back to a previous song. Pandora limits the number of skips allowed.
    • Thumbs Up/Down: You can give songs a thumbs up or thumbs down to help Pandora personalize stations to suit your preferences.
    • Bookmarking: The song or artist currently being played can be bookmarked & stored in your Pandora account.

Note: Access to the Pandora service will depend on the availability of a cellular and/or WiFi network for purposes of allowing your iPhone to connect to the Internet. Pandora is not supported in Canada & only available in the United States.

Garmin App: In addition, with the Kenwood KCA-iP22F iPod cable (sold separately) you can view navigation maps and get audible/visual directions on the Kenwood DVD receiver's touchscreen, from the Garmin StreetPilot Onboard USA app ($49.99), when downloaded onto your connected iPhone 4/4S (iOS 4.0+). The Garmin StreetPilot Onboard USA app contains NAVTEQ map data for the United States (lower 49 states); with over a million POIs, turn-by turn directions, lane assist with junction view, traffic updates, and speed limit alerts. And because the map data is downloaded onto your iPhone and does not live on the network, wireless coverage is not required to navigate. Once you have selected your destination on your connected iPhone, your map route will be visible on the DDX419's touchscreen (even with parking brake disengaged) and turn-by-turn directions can be heard through your car stereo speakers. You will continue to use your iPhone's touchscreen to control the Garmin StreetPilot USA app. The screen of your iPhone and the screen of the Kenwood DDX419 will not be identical.

AM/FM Tuner: The Kenwood DDX419 features a built-in AM/FM tuner. You can choose one of three tuning modes: Auto 1 (seek tuning), Auto 2 (cycles through and tunes the selected band's preset stations only with each button press), or Manual.

Radio Data System (RDS): The unit's tuner features RDS (Radio Data System). RDS is a service used by some radio stations to transmit data outside of normal radio broadcast signals. When an RDS station is received, you can immediately find out what kind of data is being transmitted by looking at the program service name which appears in the display after the frequency. RDS features an emergency transmission function which interrupts regular programming to broadcast an emergency announcement (such as a tornado or severe storm). There is also a switchable Traffic Information function, which will automatically tune a traffic bulletin when it is broadcast, even when you're not listening to the radio.

    Audio Section

24 Bit D/A Converter: The Kenwood DDX419 utilizes a 24-bit digital to analog converter for superior CD sound quality.

MOSFET Amplifier: The Kenwood DDX419 is equipped with a MOSFET amplifier. Compared to conventional power supplies, the MOSFET amplification circuit is smaller and more efficient, and it delivers increased power with less distortion and absolutely zero on/off switching noise. More power means louder and cleaner music at higher volumes because you're not pushing the limits of the amplification circuit. The power output specs for the DDX419 are as follows:

    • Full Bandwidth Power: 22 watts RMS x 4 channels (at 4 ohms, 20-20kHz, 1% THD)
    • Maximum Output Power: 50 watts x 4 channels

6ch/4V Preamp Outputs: The DDX419 features front, rear and subwoofer 4.0-volt preamp outputs. The front and rear speaker preamp outputs are balance and fade adjustable. The subwoofer preamp output is non-fading. The front, rear, and subwoofer preamp outputs are fixed to the rear chassis of the head unit.

Front & Rear High-Pass Filter: The DDX419 features an independent High-Pass Crossover for the front & rear channels when your front & rear speakers are connected by the unit's speaker-outputs or preamp-outputs. You can adjust the high-pass crossover from 'Through' (off), 40, 60, 80, 100, 120, 150, 180, or 220 Hz. The "Through" selection is a full-range setting. This feature is very helpful when you have smaller-type speakers in the front and larger-type speakers installed in the rear of the vehicle.

Subwoofer Controls: The Kenwood DDX419 offers the following subwoofer controls, when you have the unit's subwoofer preamp output activated.

    • Low Pass Filter: The receiver features a built-in Low Pass Filter control for the preamp-output, when the output is set to Subwoofer. You can select from 50, 60, 80, Hz, 100 Hz, 120 Hz, or 'Through' (off).
    • Subwoofer Phase: You can adjust the phase of the subwoofer output between 180-degrees (Reverse) or 0-degrees (Normal).
    • Subwoofer Level: Once the Subwoofer preamp output is activated, you can independently control the subwoofer preamp output level (-50 to +10) from the DVD receiver.

Speaker Type Setting: This feature tailors the DDX419 according to the type of front speakers in your vehicle. You may select Standard (for speakers with a general diameter), Narrow (for speakers with a small diameter), Middle (for speakers with a medium diameter), or Wide (for speakers with a large diameter).

Preset EQ: Eight EQ curves are preset into memory, allowing you to recall the best preset EQ curve for different types of music. Each preset has its own level settings for bass (100Hz), midrange (1kHz), and treble (12.5kHz). You can choose from the following preset EQ curves - Rock, Pops, Easy, Top 40, Jazz, Natural, Flat, and User.

EQ Pro: The DDX419 features independent Bass, Treble, and Midrange control when the Preset EQ is in User mode. EQ Pro allows you to adjust the following settings for the Bass, Treble and Mid frequency levels.

    EQ Pro
Center Frequency Q-Factor Bass Extension Level
    Bass 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 100, 120, or 150 Hz 1.00, 1.25, 1.50, or 2.00 On/Off -8 to +8
    Midrange 0.5k, 1.0k, 1.5k, or 2.0k Hz 1.00 or 2.00 N/A
    Treble 10.0k, 12.5k, 15.0k, or 17.5k Hz N/A N/A

Loudness: This function enhances low and high frequencies to make the sound clearer lower volumes. There are 3 levels (LV1, LV2, or Off).

Source Tone Memory: This feature allows you to store System Q bass, middle and treble tone settings for each source (Disc, AM/FM, AV-IN1/2, USB, iPod, Bluetooth Audio, and Pandora).

Volume Offset: The level of each source may be independently adjusted to prevent radical leaps in output volume when switching from one source to another. The available settings range from -8 to 0 (-8 to +8 for Aux source).

Tel Mute: The DDX419 features a cell-phone mute wire (tan) in its harness that when hooked up to your car's phone system mute wire will automatically mute the receiver's audio signal when a call comes in.

    AV Connection

Dual A/V Inputs: The Kenwood DDX419 DVD receiver is fitted with two audio/video inputs.

    • Front Panel A/V (3.5mm) Input: The unit features a front-panel 3.5mm audio/video input on the front panel of the head unit for connecting a temporary external A/V source, such as a game console. This input also serves as the A/V input for your USB-connected iPod (using proprietary Kenwood cable).
    • Rear Panel A/V (Composite) Input: The head unit also features a composite video/stereo audio RCA input on the rear panel for connecting a permanent external A/V source, such as a Blu-ray player or mobile ATSC tuner.

Camera Input: The unit features a composite video input for connecting an optional rear view camera, such as the Kenwood CMOS-200 (113CMOS200, sold separately). The video from this connection can be set to display when switched to this input, or display the rear view camera video automatically when the vehicle is shifted into Reverse gear. The purple/white wire (attached to the rear chassis) must be connected to the vehicle's reverse lamp circuit for automatic video switching. Automatic video switching takes approximately 1.5 seconds.

Note: Audio from your music source will continue playing, while the back-up camera is displayed.

A/V Output: The unit features a composite video jack and 3.5mm audio jack to output A/V signals to an optional monitor and headphone system in the rear of your vehicle. You can select between a 16:9, 4:3 LB, or 4:3 PS Aspect Ratio for the unit's video output to match your connected monitor. The audio/video source which you can output to a separate monitor and headphone system depends on the current source that is being played back on the Kenwood DVD receiver.
