Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)
This is the second DDX 6019 that I have purchased. The unit itself is great, I just wish Kenwood gave a better selection on wallpapers. 9 out of 10 for this one.

Kenwood's DDX6019 DVD player brings you a vivid 6.95" video screen that sits flush in your double-sized (4" tall) dash opening, with touchscreen controls and easy-to-follow menus that give you total command over all the system's functions. The screen motors down smoothly to give you easy access to the CD/DVD slot. And the screen tilts forward and back to ensure you get the best viewing angle, whatever the slope of your dash.
When you're parked, you'll love watching DVDs on the spacious screen. Connect a backseat video screen and some wireless headphones to keep the kids in back entertained while you drive they can watch movies in privacy while you listen to another source, like the radio, up front.
Advanced sound controls like the 3-way tone adjustment help you compensate for your vehicle's acoustics. The built-in amplifier puts out plenty of power to ensure that your music and movies sound full and forceful. For even more power, you can add external amplifiers to the three sets of preamp outputs.
Expand your system
You can also add an optional Kenwood satellite radio, or CD changer to open up your entertainment options, or use the the audio/video input to add a game console to your system. Kenwood's optional iPod® gives you touchscreen control over your iPod, plays it through the system, and even recharges the battery.
If you have a cell phone with Bluetooth® capability, connect Kenwood's optional Bluetooth hands-free adapter. It lets you access your contact list and make calls, all without touching your phone or taking your eyes off the road. Install a rear-view camera, and its picture will show up on the receiver's screen, giving you a clear shot of what's behind you.

This is the second DDX 6019 that I have purchased. The unit itself is great, I just wish Kenwood gave a better selection on wallpapers. 9 out of 10 for this one.
I recently purchased the Kenwood DDX6019 for my 03 Yukon. It fits nicely in my dash and works well with my speakers. It also looks good as well. I recommend this DVD receiver to anyone who needs one.
Installation of this unit in my 2004 Chevy Cavalier was simple. All the supplied documentation and dash kit all provided by crutchfield for free is outstanding service. The on screen audio function controls to control mids, highs and bass are great. Picture and sound quality are outstanding. This is a very good buy for your money
The screen is a bit outdated, as the newer Kenwood Single Din are more "iPod" looking and less pixelated. Picture is fair, again, the newer screens have much more definition, etc. Also, the iPod interface is dates and the newer generation head units show artist, title, and you can search like you search on your iPod. Only wish I would have seen that before I upgraded to this one, might have been worth the extra investment.<BR><BR> But all things considered, this is one heck of a unit, works great with the iPod and HD modules I already owned, plug and play, sound is outstanding, and it has been great for my long commute to work. Interface is easy to use, very user friendly. I am very happy with it, but I also have that "keep up with the Jones'" part of me that wishes I has known more about the new models that have come out recently, with flip up screens, single din, and amazing picture and touch screens.
I just installed this unit this week. The installation was a breeze with the Crutchfield instructions and info I had found on the web. Keep in mind this is the first in-dash car stereo I've ever installed. The fit on my 2004 F150 is clean and flush with the center stack. The unit looks like it was a factory oem item. The picture on dvd movies is wonderful. The sound is much improved with just my factory door speakers. So far my only complaint is getting used to the menus to utilize everything this deck can do. I didn't order them initially, but I'm already thinking about the navi, bluetooth and ipod equipment (and I don't even have an ipod yet). So you can see I am more than satisfied with this unit so far.
I put this unit in an 07 avalanche LT, it looks great, as a matter of fact it looks stock. I have a stock system and it really improved the sound. One thing that i like is you can control the frequency and the level of bass mid and high. Another thing about this unit is that it is upgradable to nav, tv, camera, ipod, etc. If your looking for something around this price range, this is the one to get....oh yeah the DVD's sick picture quality. One negative is the remote, is does not illuminate in the dark, but it has a touch screen so who cares. I read alot of reviews did alot research I almost bought the JVC because of the SD card slot, but it does not have the audio control that this one has. Overall tight and I would highly recommended it!!!
If you're looking for "bang for the buck" like I was, then look no further! The screen is clear and legible from any angle. The motorized tilt screen allows for easy preset adjustment angles to compensate for a highly sloped dash angle. The controls are user friendly and menu navigation is straight-forward. The sound is excellent, especially when playing DVD's. My home surround sound system should sound so good. Installation in my 2005 Nissan Nismo Crew Cab was a 1-hour snap using the adaptor plugs and easy to follow instructions provided free of charge by the Crutch. I am totally satisfied and would recommend this unit to anyone.
This product is very good. The screen is crystal clear with all my dvd's even the bootleg dvd's. I love the touch screen and the functions are easy to use. I have a 04 Pathfinder with Polk audio component speakers in the front door's and two way polk audio speakers in the rear door. This unit gives them enough power that I dont need a amplifier for them which I was going to get but it is already to loud and very clear (no distortion). I havn't hooked up any external items but an Ipod. This feature is the worst out of what I have seen on other touch screen units. The Ipod function only shows your playlist in a list preview which is ok but after you choose your title from the playlist you have to go through all the song to get to the one you want for example: if you have a playlist called my hip hop songs and you have like 70 songs under that playlist, you will have to go through all of them to get to the one you want unless you know what number it is. I wish they would make a new unit that is 98% just like the ipod functions, I will buy that as soon as it comes out. But if you by pass the Ipod Function then this is the perfect unit for you it looks great makes your vehicle look real good.
I couldn't wait to hook this thing up, and with the car specific guides provided by Cructhfield, it was a snap! Did all of the wiring at the kitchen table, then went outside and just plugged and played. The unit still surprises me with different features that I didn't even know it has. It is very versatile when it comes to shaping the sound based on the type of speakers you are using. I still have stock speakers for now, but it even made those sound 100% better. I put this in a 2007 Pontiac Grand Prix. Fits perfectly! The only problem I have found is I can't seem, no matter what I do, to get this unit to dim when the headlights are on. I have to manually change the monitor settings back and forth. Other than that, it sounds and looks great.
Good unit for the price. I wish the the display for the satellite radio would show ALL the information, such as channel, artist, and song, instead of having to choose one or the other. Seems like such a waste of real estate. Other than that, I am pleased with the function of the radio and the video display is very clear.
Installation of this unit in my 06 Nissan Xterra was a breeze. The presence of the in dash monitor creates a relaxed ambiance with the occupants while viewing DVD movies or concert type media. The on screen audio function controls allows access to many sound options. It was necessary to install a Kenwood amplifier and Infinity speakers to create the sound quality preferred for my listening pleasure. All in all this is a very good buy for the money. I also installed one in my 07 Subaru Impreza. Review to follow at a later date.
I purchased this head unit over 6 months ago. It provides basic functions for IPod applications. For the $$$ it is worth every cent. I purchased the back-up camera for this unit as well. Everything has worked nicely since Apr 07. I am very pleased for what it does. This unit provides high quality at a nice price. I am sure there are better products out there, but this will meet most people's needs. This is the best bang for the buck!!!!!
I didn't think the GM NAV or Bose Stereo was worth the increased cost in the vette, so I opted for the base stereo. I replaced it with the DDX-6019, Metra wire GM harness, Sirius SIR-KEN1, Kenwood KNA-G510 Nav unit, Kenwood CCD-900 rear camera, Kenwood KAC-8403 Amplifier with Kenwood KFC-P707 speakers in the doors. You need custom mount plates in the doors, but the speakers fit perfect and aren't too deep. <BR><BR>The new system compared to the old is like night and day. Crutchfield provides all the things you need to for a great looking and sounding install. I'm very happy with my new setup.<BR><BR>I put MP3's on a DVD-R and it works perfectly. The DVD player is nice and works as expected. The Nav is Garmin and I prefer it to other brands. The Sirius could use an updated interface, but it's functional. My GPS and Sirius antennas are under the dash above the air vents, but I may move the Sirius antenna for better reception.<BR><BR>If I had any complaints, I would like to be able to switch on the rear view camera whenever I'm driving not just in reverse, or maybe tap into the video feed for recording.
One aspect I could not get a straight answer on from Kenwood was whether it played MP3-Encoded DVD-R's or only MP3-Encoded CD-R's.<BR><BR>After purchasing I discovered that it DOES indeed play MP3-Encoded DVD-R's. *EXCELLENT*<BR><BR>Pro's:<BR><BR>• Great Sound - Comparable to Pioneer.<BR>• Easy Installation for Daisy Chain Components (Sirius, HD-Radio, Bluetooth, etc.) No Extra wire Splicing required.<BR>• Has excellent Touchsreen Directory for MP3 media - Makes it easy to find music and jump through folders.<BR>• Garmin Powered GPS.<BR><BR>Con's:<BR><BR>• User Interface is very Plain, no graphics.<BR>• Wallpapers look like Windows 95.<BR>• No Visualizations.<BR>• User Interface is NOT intuitive.<BR>• Sirius Interface does not have Category/Number search options. All you get is number.<BR>• GPS is hideaway unit - cable is too short.<BR>• GPS requires extra wire splicing.<BR>• GPS does not have split-screen 2D/3D view.<BR><BR>Overall a decent unit, but I did expect more. Kenwood user interface has always been very basic, needs work. <BR><BR>Bear in mind that I have had a good number of these devices and have become a CRITIC. If this is your 2nd or 3rd unit you will probably like it a lot.<BR><BR>*** Use Posi-Lock Connectors for Installation.***<BR><BR>http://www.posi-lock.com/<BR><BR>You can buy them at Wal-Mart.
Easy to fit, great looking (looks factory), great sounding. Would like more user options with the ipod interface but anything beats the FM mod I was using before. Picture quality is out of this world and the girlfriend loves the remote.<BR>This will certainly be used in my Classic Austin Mini build with the nav option.
I bought this DVD head unit this week and installed it 2 days ago. The installation was very easy, but I expected the unit to completely fill my 2-din slot. Unfortunately there were some gaps on the sides so I had to modify the black filler plate that came with the unit. It was very easy to cut with a dremel tool. The large screen looks great in the 2-din slot. <BR><BR>Overall the unit is great. The coolest thing thus far is the use of DVDs for audio. I burned about 500 songs on a DVD-R and organized it by artist, album and song. The Kenwood's menu allows you to easily scroll through the folder structure on the DVD. <BR><BR><BR>The user interface seems dated and counter-intuitive. I would imagine that I could design a better interface with with cooler wallpapers, buttons, etc. With that said, the interface wouldn't keep me from buying this unit. It seems that most of the interfaces on these in-dash DVD units are weak. <BR><BR><BR>The control over the sound levels is very good. You can adjust each range (low, mid, high) at various frequencies and you can even change the curve of the modification (Q-level). It really lets you dial in the system to your listening preferences. Unfortunately I find myself changing the settings for each band that I listen to. <BR><BR><BR>Crutchfield has a pretty good price on this unit. I would definitely recommend buying this DVD system. <BR>
After considerable research, I decided on this unit and have no regrets. My goal was to have a DVD player / Navigation system with satellite radio that was user friendly, but state of the art. This unit delivers amazing sound and comes with endless features. The unit improved my factory speaker sound to the point that I'm considering not purchasing an amplifier. My only complaints are 1. No Hard drive or at least a second slot for cd/dvd. and 2. It is Sirius ready, not Sirius AND XM ready. If you want XM, you have to use it in the Sirius mode, or just connect the KNA G510 through which XM interfaces. I definitely recommend this product to anyone looking for a quality dvd/tuner with options to expand, i.e., reverse video, HD tuner, Video game, Navigation, etc.
I can't think of anything I don't like about the DDX-6019. It's a pretty solid piece of equipment. I'm using this in conjunction with Polk Momo components and a Polk Momo amp, and the sound quality is stunning. I just had Sirius sattelite radio installed as well, and the controlls are very easy to use. If there's anything negative about the DDX-6019, it would be the selection of backdrops that are built into the unit. But that's just a nit pick and definately not that important. Right now, I'm saving up for the navagation unit to have the entire package, looking forward to it!! I would definately recommend this unit to anyonw who's serious about quality. And on top of that, it fits flush in yor double-din opening and looks great that way if I may say so ;)
This head unit is by far the best unit I haver ever owned. It is compatiable with more things that I use than my previous unit was. I owned the Kenwood DDX-7017 prior to this and I was not able to use the Phone interface. The picture quality is by far teh best that I have seen to date. The navigation is extremly easy to use. On top of all this Crutchfield is the best company to work with. Example, my DDX 7017 went bad within the first 30 days and Crutchfield sent me the DDX-6019 before I even sent back the DDX-7017. Plus it was here overnight. I ordered it on the 30th of November and recived it on the morning of the 1st of December. I just can't say enough about this product, I love it.
Hey guys, this is a great item! It was easier than stealing candy from a baby as far as the installation was concern. Where do I start! First, is a touch screen, remote control, loud sound, I get compliments from my valet parking people. Is great, is worth the money by far! As a matter of fact I plan to buy another one for my other car! I also plan to add the navigation system and the Sirius radio as well. I watch DVDs while driving! It doesn't get better than that! Crutchfield is a great company, I should know this is my 16th order! And not the last. I am not going to waste your time, go and get this BEAST of a DVD player. Go big or go home! Peace!!!!
I purchased a Pioneer AVIC-N1 from Crutchfield a couple of years ago and thought it was the best thing since sliced bread. Well, I was wrong. My AVIC finally gave up the ghost recently and I was unsucessful at fixing it. So I looked to replace it and found the Kenwood model with the Navigation unit as a package deal. I was surprised to see that Garmin builds the navigation units for Kenwood. But I wasnt sure how the navigation would compare to the AVIC. After using this Kenwood for the past two weeks, Ive realized that the Pioneer is basically crippled as a Nav unit. The functionality on the Kenwood is far superior. My biggest surprise was that with the Kenwood, I can search for a specific business closest to me. I could not do that with the AVIC. The only thing I would change on the Kenwood is the color scheme of the Nav maps. They look a bit "cartoonish" compared to the AVIC maps. But they are easy to get used to. <BR><BR>My only other gripe with this unit is the screen brightness. During the day, its fine, but at night, its a bit too bright, even on the lowest setting. I drive a lot at night and I wish I could dim the screen more so that it blends in with the rest of the dash lights. Other than that, the unit is perfect. <BR><BR>I did not buy this unit to play DVDs but when I tried it out, I was blown away by the picture quality. Very nice details. <BR><BR>I also purchased the Sirius tuner and the interface with the tuner on the Kenwoods screen is fantastic. With the Pioneer, I could only see one line at a time and I could not enter a channel number manually. The Kenwood is way better in this regard. <BR><BR>Kenwood hit a home run with this unit and Navigation system.
I bought this HU for iPod, satellite and nav integration. Satellite and nav integration are so-so, but not a hanging offense. The iPod integration is most certainly IMHO a crime. You'd think in buying an HU with a 6.95" screen, that you'd have the opportunity to display a lot of data from the iPod. Wrong. What they've done is shoe-horn the iPod adapter into this deck's 6-disk changer interface, as if this was some kind of magical universal interface. I don't think you'll ever fit 5K songs on a six-disk changer. Kenwood didn't think so either, and you're limited to like 254 of everything: artitsts, albums, titles, playlists, etc. The really annoyting thing though is that you only get ONE LINE of track info at the bottom of the screen! The rest of the screen is taken up by stupid track control buttons placed all over the screen! Compare this to the iPod interfaces on some of the 2006 Alpine touchscreen HUs like the IVA-W200, and you'll see what I mean. The moral of the story is, if the catalog picture shows the iPod screen, it's probably because it's a good interface. You rarely see HU iPod screens in ads.<BR><BR> - Butters
This was my first time buying anything from Kenwood. I bought this unit last month and returned it due to following reasons.<BR>Pros:<BR>Plays lots of different media formats, played some of the copied DVD's "backups" and media files that no other unit (I tried) could play.<BR>Unit is Simple to use and very easy to navigate through the menus. <BR>Loads the disk very quickly, 7" display screen (if ½ inch makes you happy)<BR>The unit was very easy to install.<BR>MP3 and WMA playback is a breeze. Lets u see all the folders from the root of the disk and you can use the touch screen to click on a song to play.<BR>Excellent picture quality in the DVD playback.<BR><BR>Cons:<BR>Plays MPEG-1 and VCD's in black and white (no colors.)<BR>Coming from a Pioneer unit - this unit sounded extremely bad.<BR>EQ: Lack of low-bass and too much distortion in sound, mids are good (clear) but then u are bombarded with the highs again.<BR>Menus and wallpapers are terrible; I ended up keeping the background blank.<BR>Remote is very badly designed and has too many un-necessary buttons.<BR><BR>Sound in a $1000 head unit is very important to me, if you are not the EQ type of listener then this is the unit for you. I have swapped this unit with an Eclipse. This was my first time shopping at Crutchfield and i am extremely pleased with their service, they gave me full refund + I received my replacement unit in two business days at no shipping cost. I sent my unit (Kenwood) back on 7/31/2006 9:30 AM and received my replacement back on 08/02/2006 11:00 AM.
I just purchased and installed the DDX-6019 this month (May 2006). I wasn't quite sure what to expect of this product since I've not seen any reviews on it, but after having it installed, I am completely "WOW!"-ed.<BR><BR>The screen quality is fabulous. It sounds great! The menu functionality and navigation is easy. You almost don't need the manual to use it the first time.<BR><BR>The remote is, however, not user friendly. I've decided not to use it much. Anyway, the screen is more fun to use.<BR><BR>With all the features, the only thing missing is the ability to customize the wallpaper or screen picture. It would be nice to create my own screen pictures from time to time just to freshen up the interface. That being said, the DDX-6019's screen picture is cool. Five of the six wallpapers, however, are pretty lame.<BR><BR>My installer is an award winning sound engineer in my country (Trinidad), having won at least 6 competitions for aftermarket car audio enthusiasts. While he claims to be a Pioneer loyalist, he said that he is completely sold on the DDX-6019. It's the best he's worked with so far.<BR><BR>This is a definite two thumbs up recommendation. Great value!
