Phone integration meets Kenwood Excelon

HD Radio

When we heard that Kenwood added Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™ to the Excelon DDX9902S DVD receiver, we knew this would be a winning combination. You can integrate apps from an iPhone® and an Android™ directly to the handy 7" touchscreen display for total media control. Kenwood combined this functionality with the wireless convenience of Bluetooth® with aptX for high-quality music streaming and hands-free calling.

You can choose from a wide variety of sources, such as HD Radio™, SiriusXM, Pandora®, iHeartRadio®, DVDs, CDs, and music from a USB drive or a portable audio player. Extensive sound-shaping tools let you refine your sound, and Kenwood backs up this receiver with a 2-year warranty.

Apps on the go

Here are some of the interactive features this Kenwood offers with your Apple® or Android™ phone.

  • Apple CarPlay™: CarPlay integrates your iPhone® into the driving experience in a new, seamless interface, putting iPhone content at the driver's fingertips with minimal distraction. That means easy access to your music library, your phone, messages, navigation, and many third-party streaming music apps, too. Learn more at
  • Android Auto™: If you're an Android fan, you'll love how Android Auto integrates the Android platform into your driving experience in a non-distracting way. You'll have voice control access to Google Maps, weather, music, your phone, text messages, plus easy access to many of your favorite apps. Get more info at
  • Phone swapping: If your family includes both iPhone and Android™ users, you simply plug in the phone you want to use with this Kenwood without having to choose a particular input or adjust menu settings for control.
  • Siri Eyes Free: With your compatible iPhone, you can take advantage of Siri Eyes Free functionality with a touch of the receiver's touchscreen, using your voice to place calls, select music, hear notification, add reminders — even compose and listen to text messages.
  • Android mirroring: By connecting your Android to the rear HDMI/MHL input on the Kenwood, you can display your Android's screen on the receiver's large 7" display for better viewing.

Taking Bluetooth a step further

The convenience of Bluetooth for hands-free calling and audio streaming can't be overstated. When a call comes in, you'll answer with one tap of your finger, and you can stream music without the hassle of plugging your phone into the receiver.  Kenwood ups the game by supporting aptX high-quality audio streaming from equipped devices, so you can enjoy streaming audio quality that'll satisfy your sonic demands.

Listen to just about anything

The DDX9902S features a built-in HD Radio tuner which allows you to hear improved fidelity and reception from participating AM/FM stations all over. And if you want to listen to stations that won't fade away on the longest trips, this Kenwood also features a connection for an optional satellite radio tuner, so you can enjoy SiriusXM's extensive programming with your subscription. You can even stream your favorite Pandora® and iHeartRadio® stations from your phone.

And when you're not in the mood for radio, you can use the rear auxiliary input to plug in a portable audio player, or plug a thumb drive full of music into the rear USB port  — it'll even play FLAC files. If you still have some DVDs and CDs hiding in the console or glove box, you can even slip them in.

Kenwood Excelon DDX9902S DVD receiver

An audio and video delight

A wealth of color choices and customizable menu on the big 7" screen let you tailor the look of the Kenwood to match your vehicle. This receiver plays video content in bright, clear detail when you're parked. When you're on the road, you can entertain your passengers by sending a movie from the receiver to a rear-seat screen. And of course you can plug in a rear-view camera to play it safe in crowded parking lots.

The powerful built-in amplifier sends a crisp, clear signal to your speakers, while the 7-band equalizer boasts Kenwood's Drive EQ feature — when the radio is playing at lower volumes, it boosts frequencies in the music that are often masked by road noise. The built-in DSP (digital sound processing) with digital time alignment lets you zero in on your perfect sound, and the three sets of 5-volt preamp outputs deliver an ultra-clean signal for adding additional amps for even more power.

Want to keep your car's steering wheel audio controls?

In most cars, you'll need an adapter to retain those controls with this car stereo. Connect a few wires, then program the adapter for your particular car and radio, and you'll retain the convenience of your steering wheel controls. You'll see the adapters that work with your vehicle when you add this receiver to your cart.

iDatalink Maestro lets you keep your factory extras

If your vehicle comes with factory add-ons like Ford SYNC®, GM OnStar®, Chrysler Uconnect™, and VW's media interface, you don't have to worry about losing your favorite conveniences to get navigation and better sound — the DDX9902S offers compatibility you won't find in many other aftermarket radios, thanks to the iDatalink Maestro module (not included).

  • Ford SYNC systems: you'll be able to retain voice-controlled features, steering wheel audio controls, and factory audio functions;
  • GM vehicles: you'll keep your steering wheel audio controls, your factory amp, safety warning chimes, and OnStar;
  • Chrysler: you'll keep all your Uconnect functionality;
  • Volkswagen: you'll retain the factory Bluetooth, the factory digital amplifier and fader, plus VW's media device interface.

Bluetooth note: Use of this receiver's Bluetooth features will depend upon your phone's Bluetooth capabilities. Learn more in our articles about Bluetooth profiles and streaming music using Bluetooth with aptX.

    Horribly unreliable.

Harry from Knoxville, TN on 12/21/2016

    2007 Dodge Ram 2500

2 units, both broke within a week. First one, the screen would intermittently go out. Receiver still functioned, but the display wouldn't work, so I couldn't see what I was doing. Its replacement started fine, then would shut off. Then got worse, finally to the point where the only way to get it to come back on was to pull the vehicle's fuse to cut all power to it.

Pros: Great features. Well, I think anyway.

    Cons: Unusably unreliable.

Michael from Monroe, WI on 5/30/2016

Overall I'm not happy with this stereo, mostly due to the benefits vs cost. Dont' forget in addition to the radio you need to spend several hundred dollars in installation costs including a Maestro RR, mounting kit, etc. The reason I don't like this is becuase, as other reviewers have pointed out, it is buggy. - Android auto does not work at all. Tech support said the unit needed a firmware update (did not fix anything). Then they said to reset the unit. Then they said the USB cable was bad (I already tried several). Now they're blaming my new LG V10 Verizon phone. I'm going to try the neighbor's phone this weekend, and then call tech support again... - Bluetooth calls are terrible, absolutely terrible. First the bluetooth connection keeps dropping randomly mid-call. Again, this isn't a problem wtih my phone, as none of my bluetooth earbuds do this... only the Kenwood. If the bluetooth is working, the quality is absolutely terrible. No one can hear me. I'm screaming at the phone, and they're still complaining they can't hear me. My factory bluetooth quality was much MUCH better. No one had trouble hearing me. - When in a all (and someone usually can't hear me anyway) the Bluetooth often drops. Randomly. Just a junk system. - The firmware update I was told to do, while fixing none of my problems, now makes holding the volume up button ineffective. So if you have the stereo extremely quiet due to a commercial or conversation

    Nice Radio

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this radio for my truck and just installed it. Sounds great even with the factory speakers. Installation was fairly simple. Very clean looking install. So far I absolutely love this radio, it blends in the dash very well. I can hook up both my wife's and my phone via Bluetooth. Carplay is nice. I word of advice think about any connections you want available and have them ready at the time of initial installation. There is no aux input on the front or the radion

Pros: Very Cool Excellent Sound Ability to connect 2 phones at the same time Nice Display Apple Carplay

Cons: menus a little hard to navigate all inputs are on the back of the radio

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was excited to get this installed, but after using it a couple months I hope I can save you the pain. The software on the unit is unstable & for the price it should be much better. I thought I did my research, but this deck just isn't the quality expected & the installation in my vehicle should only be done by a pro.

Pros: Looks good, plays cd's well. I enjoy using the iphone on my car when it's not resetting (daily)

Cons: Resets multiple times a day. Phone calls just drop back to the phone w/o notice. Had to tear a lot of my inner dash out to fit it. Software is quirky & goes out for no reason. W/ accessories... I'm out quite a bit.

Wanted to upgrade factory radio for better sound and ability to move the camera from the rear view mirror to display screen. Ability to move camera not available unless you can trace factory wiring in dash and reroute to display. Sound quality great especially after installing new JBL speakers.

Pros: upgraded sound quality, nicer touch screen,

Cons: inability to move camera, mounting brackets are plastic and flimsy,

    It's great

First things first ... The Crutchfield team is fantastic! They are more helpful than any support staff I've ever encountered. This is a fine product and has a lot of features. Great upgrade for an older vehicle.

Pros: It has great sound quality and all of the audio features one could want.

Cons: I was never able to make my Galaxy S7 connect for navigation. The USB port is limited in that it cannot accept a USB hub for multiple USB devices. My vehicle has several USB hubs throughout and none of them will work with this system, only the cable hanging out the back with one device at a time. The screen seemed a little washed out and unreadable in bright sunlight.

    I like it

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I had it professionally installed along with the Axxess ASWC-1 to let my factory steering wheel and Bluetooth controls (phone and voice command) work. The only things I'm currently waiting for now: Google to get Waze working with Android Auto and Kenwood to get Kenwood Smartphone Control to work with my Nexus 6P. I can barely afford to be so high-tech, but it makes life so much easier. I have a 3rd gen iPod touch connected over Bluetooth and I can use it and my phone at the same time or have the head unit switch between phone and iPod for media playing without having to plug in the iPod since the phone is taking the USB for Android Auto.

Pros: Sound quality and output compared to stock head unit. Android Auto. Compatibility with my 3rd gen iPod touch Bluetooth.

Cons: Still getting caught up with technology like Waze and the latest Android OS compatibility for Kenwood Smartphone Control.

Easy to install and worked well right away. Only issue I had was volume of navigation. Finally figured out I could adjust it while the nav voice was speaking and it would retain that volume level. Sounds good. Android Auto works like a champ!

    Pros: Easy install. Android Auto.

    Cons: None

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have a 04 Chevy Silverado and I didn't want to buy a brand new truck ($67,000 for a new replacement) so I bought a stereo instead. I really like having the Android Auto and after a bit found that that is where my stereo is always on. I wish I could change radio stations in Android Auto. I do however live in Alaska so the nighttime can be very long. I have found that the stereo will only dim a little bit. Now I have a television screen glaring at me when I am trying to dodge moose. I have written to Kenwood asking if they could, at the next firmware release, make it so the screen turns completely off after a minute of inactivity or until you touch the screen or a button. I would encourage everybody to write to them about this.

Pros: Cheaper then a new truck. Lots of features, some that I never use.

Cons: Too bright, even dimmed all the way down, I even fiddled with the contrast to darken it a bit more. Think of the moose.....

    Great, with a few flaws

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great. Great connections, detailed instructions, great sound. My only complaint is the screen itself doesn't dim with your lights. The buttons do! But that seems kinda pointless since there's still a giant freaking screen blaring in your eyes. Outside of that, the screen adjustment angle was a very nice and unexpected touch.

Pros: Screen angle adjustment Decent sound quality Plays FLAC files Android Auto

Cons: The screen doesn't dim, but the buttons do? (This blows my mind.)

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

    Really nice Deck

Pros: I bought the deck for the Android Auto functionality to replace my UConnent on my Dodge Ram. Not including Android Auto, the deck works better with Android than UConnect ever did. Google Voice is available while not connected to Android Auto therefore has much of the Android Auto functionality without the tether. The deck works well with the OEM speakers and has superior sound to the UConncet deck. Bluetooth call quality is good for the driver. Crutchfield support has been awesome!

Cons: The deck is bigger than the OEM and takes a bit of work to get it to fit in the dash. Call quality through the included the mic is poor to the person you call. I have now tried multiple mics and can't get much better. The mic call quality in my 2015 Challenger is superior to this deck, which has surprised me. If the quality of the call was improved this deck would be a 6 out of 5!!

    2012 Toyota FJ Cruiser
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Installed this in a 2012 FJ Cruiser with JBL sound system with sub woofer. Crutchfield's install kit's are always the best. The Axxess TYTO-01 Wiring Interface allows the head unit to interface with the stock speakers and Sub prefectly. The Axxess ASWC-1 Steering Wheel Control Adapter works perfectly to keep the steering wheel controls fully functional. I did turn the ignition on to make sure I had bothe of the Axxess boxes hooked up correctly without the Kenwood Head unit connected. This was not a big deal, but I just had to go through the "reset" procedure for the Axxess steering wheel control box and power it up WITH both car and head unit connected so it would detect both. The Kenwood head unit is pretty kewl. The screen slides down and out at the bottom to give access to the DVD/CD slot (does anyone play CD's anymore?). One nice feature is you can set the tilt of the screen to park at. I have mine angled up slightly makes seeing it easier on the flat FJ dash. I have this tied to my Samsung Note 4, and the Android Drive works very well. Android Drive only works if you have it physically hooked up to the USB cable. I'm still working on getting my stock USB and 3.5mm audio jack connected. I just like that look better than the cable hanging out of glove box. Overall I really like this Head Unit. I would recommend it.

Pros: Extra swank tilting screen!, Android Drive works great.

Cons: No included instructions on how to keep stock USB and 3.5mm Audio input jacks functioning.

Sounds great, easy to use, nice features

    2008 Toyota 4Runner
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I installed this unit in a 2008 Toyota 4Runner and it was very easy. The sound quality is 100% better than the stock stereo. Apple CarPlay works very well, with the exception of Apple Maps, which is inferior to Google Maps. I seriously considered dumping my iphone to buy an Android phone just so I could use Google Maps with this stereo. Apple Maps works ok, though. You can use your finger to move the map when you are not actively navigating to a destination. Once you are navigating to a destination, you cannot move the map. You can use the + and - buttons to zoom in/out on the map. You can't use multi-finger gestures such as pinch to zoom. Some reviewers have mentioned that the unit is too bright at night. Here's how you can fix that problem. To dim the Top Menu (the menu that belongs to the stereo), go to Setup > Screen Adjustment and make sure that the "dimmer on" item is selected (this tells the unit how dark you want it to be when the headlights are on). Set brightness and blackness to as low as they can go (e.g., -15). This will not change the brightness of the CarPlay menu and it will be very bright. To change the brightness of the carplay menu, go to the CarPlay menu (it looks like the iphone screen), press the AV button the stereo, then adjust the brightness and blackness. The touchscreen is very responsive and supports inertial scrolling. Screen is easy to see in daylight, even when my sunroof is open. Screen can be sufficiently dimmed for nighttime driving.

Pros: Touchscreen is very responsive, doesn't have glare in the sun, and can be dimmed for night driving. CarPlay works very well. Siri always understands my commands like "play songs by...", "get directions to...", "send my wife a text message that says...", "call Bob", "read my text messages", "play voice mail", etc.

Cons: Navigation relies on having phone service. I knew this when I bought the unit. If you drive lots of places where you can't get cell service, you will not be able to use Apple Maps for guidance. Google Maps can download and cache maps and I assume this feature will work well with Android Auto.

    Great Upgrade to my F150!

I'm amazed at some of the OEM features such as parking assist, backup camera, tire pressure, and remote start integration. Only thing Crutchfield didn't tell me I needed was an antenna adapter.

    Pros: Android Auto, OEM intergration

Cons: Screen hard to see in direct sunlight.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is a nice looking design and the unit itself is very fun to mess around with but when it comes to Apple CarPlay it just needs so much work. Hopefully more updates come out, I have updated to Version 1.6.0 and I still have issues mainly with Spotify. It either won't display anything at all for Spotify or else it only shows my first 100 songs in each playlist

Pros: Great design, smooth operating system, customizable, great sound.

Cons: CarPlay is buggy, Spotify hardly works correctly, switching songs too fast lags out the screen, glares badly in sunlight

    For My Motorhome

LeeRV from O'Fallon, MO on 12/8/2015

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought the product to use in our Motorhome. High priority was ease of use while driving a 40 foot ,42,000 lbs.vehicle; quick access to a rear view camera view of our tow vehicle and other vehicles near by; and full Android access to my Smart phone apps like Wazes for GPS guidance. All the music and talk radio (Pandora, iHeart, USB input, was a bonus).

Pros: This unit dose all I hoped it would. Screen transition is easy. The unit is attractive, the screen slant feature works well and is helpful. The sound is awesome, but then I'm not any audiophile.

Cons: The rear camera image is really poor, especially when the sun is at the rear . . . totally washed out. It gets the job done but not pleasant to the eye.

    Totally worth the price!

    WarriorBear from Ontario on 11/23/2015

Replaced a burnt out stereo in my 2010 Jetta (a very common issue for numerous VWs of that year). This was a great replacement. Slightly better sound quality than the stock receiver. I'm using it with Android Auto, which has been problem free so far. Construction of the unit could be more robust, but it's not too bad. Overall, the 9902 offers good value for your dollar and stacks up well against the Pioneer 4100NEX.

    Pros: Sound, features

    Cons: Construction could be better

    In a very loud van

    Ralph from California on 10/26/2015

    1963 Ford Falcon
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I installed this in my '63 Ford Econoline. I have not finished installing all insulation and sound deadening materials, so the vehicle is very loud at speed. On the Pacific Coast highway this last weekend I had the windows open and the rpm up around 4M while I drove for about 4 hours. A lot of the time I had the music on and with the volume at 30 I could enjoy the tunes but it was very loud. I had to turn my sub woofer off and use natural on the equalizer to make the sound as clean as I could. When I was parked and camping over night I was able to enjoy the music at a low volume. Of course at that level I can't say its was rocking. I installed the radio a few days before last weekend and while experimenting with it I had trouble keeping it connected to my iphone and each time I parked and turned the van back on it lost the signal and I had to go to settings to get connected again. This occurred so often I figured that is the way its going to be. But after all the driving this weekend that seemed to go away. On the entire way back I was happy to get in the van and start up the engine and had it go directly back to CarPlay without a problem. Despite the sound issues I have in the cab Siri worked fine, loud and clear as did the phone calls. I don't have use of all of the other features other than the backup camera which I have not installed yet so I can't speak to several features (connection to transmission, backup sensors etc) but overall I like this unit very much.

Pros: Cool looking, Easy to read, Loads of available features

Cons: Depending on where it can be mounted the brightness adjustments could be lacking. For my van I had to mount the unit low, considerably below the bottom of the dash. This requires the angle of the screen to be pointed upward. This location does not work well when the sun comes pouring in from the flat windshield almost directly above the unit. I don't think this is a real con but its the only bad thing I have experienced so far.

Great head unit.... easy install with great pointers from the support team. This was a modified fit for my excursion. I took some extra time to familiarize myself with what was needed before plunging in to my dash, but it turned out quite nice. Great fit and very custom. Start to finish, including the backup camera, took me about 2 hours. Now.... about that fifteen inch monitor for the rear passengers.

Overall the DVD Receiver is very nice. I did a firmware update. Hopefully the instability goes away. Navigation form the iPhone works great. Hands free calling works great. Available Apps all work great. Touch screen a bit sensitive. Very nice upgrade for our 2004 Tahoe. Plan on putting it into out 2005 Silverado.

Pros: Nice upgrade to out 2004 Tahoe. Works as advertised.

Cons: Had to do a Firmware upgrade as soon as I was done installing the unit. Hopefully the firmware upgrade fixes the unit powering down for no reason.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have a 2013 Silverado and the kit came with a cable to allow the USB port on the dash connect to the head unit. Android Auto kept crashing and I tried about 8 USB cables (plugged into the factory USB port on the dash) and then pulled the radio back out, ran the USB cable on the head unit to the glovebox and connected up my phone there and Android Auto ran without any issues. The factory dash USB port is not good enough to support android auto... it would support a flash drive full of music, but not the Verizon S5 on android auto. All is well now and the radio is amazing.... DVD, HD Radio, XM (using my factory XM receiver - thanks iDatalink Maestro). Steering wheel controls work perfectly and immediately. Integration into the vehicle is cool... I can set gauges on my display to watch things like transmission temp and other assorted vehicle parameters.... even reset the check engine lite if it ever comes in. The iDatalink harness (HRN-RR-GM5+) came with a ODB II plug... no splicing into the OBD port required... just route the wires and go.

Pros: This thing does everything and does it well (after getting the USB cable issue resolved).

Cons: Got to make sure you have a good USB connection for Android Auto --- it's picky.

Back up camera: place the veicle in reverse and you get parking assist not camera. there is no way to fix this. it is designed this way; place the vehicle in reverse. Push the button on the head unit and see the camera. Place the vehicle in drive - screen turns to blue. Tap display to return to previous function. I wanted to all this to be automatic. That's the expectation. Pandora: Not if you're in Car play. You can only operate pandora on the phone itself if you are in car play. Same with all other apps except apple music and apple maps. Actually the apple maps function does work pretty well - surprising considering the rest of this thing. The system never returns to the previous function. Get a text - push the symbol on the head unit. Siri reads the text. screen goes black, touch the head unit, find what it was doing before you received a text, select that button, now you are back to the previous function. I wanted that to work automatically - it doesn't. Steering wheel Hang Up (disconnect) after call. Not in car play. You have to push the red button on the head unit. Steering wheel control does not respond when in Car play. You guessed it - you have to select the function you were in before the call to return to the previous function. I wanted that to occur automatically. Don't want to be in Car Play so that you can run apps like google maps or pandora via bluethooth? Forget it. It doesn't work. No volume in bluetooth mode

    Pros: Can't think of any

Cons: Does not work as advertised. Labor intensive. plain and basic music display. no volume on bluetooth. Cannot select back up camera. "reverse camera interupt bitton does not do anything.... On and on. Just doesn't work like they say it does.

    Great for Car Play

So far my experience with the HU has been positive. It does exactly what its supposed to do and functionality has been great. There have been a couple things here and there I have had to work around but all in all, so far its been fun and enjoyable listening/commuicating experience having a nice HU in my truck. The only thing I havent been able to get to connect is Pandora thru the HU. However, I can easily connect it through carplay or bluetooth so it isnt an issue. One of the best things is that it is really fast moving through the menus, which is nice. I have no patience for slow browsing and this HU does not disappoint in this dept. I have not connected a droid, but from the reviews, it doesnt seem like it works as well the the iphones. I saw a review where someone connected an iphone and the screen was black. that happened to me once and all I did was tap the AV button and carplay popped up. Other than that...Carplay has been flawless.

Pros: sounds good, carplay works great, enormous customization

Cons: a ton of menus, sometimes hard to find different settings

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased this unit to get the Apple Play with the control of my power retractable antenna. The unit has a lead that is specific to the power antenna. Kenwood told me on the phone when I called them about this issue that the antenna would only go up when the 'radio' was on not merely the head unit. They were either quite mistaken or confused. When the unit is powered on the antenna lead goes to 12V and remains at 12V until you turn the unit off. Normally not too big of deal, but when I was Specifically not wanting this trait, it was a big deal to me.

Pros: it is a pretty head unit

Cons: it doesn't control a retractable antenna

    over-priced junk

I just replaced my DDX8901HD in hopes that this one would fix all of the bugs in the former model... fat chance! I give this receiver 4 stars for the concept and 1 star for the execution. This is a clear case of incompetent engineering. I had both head units professionally installed It, just to set the record straight. It freezes and crashes multiple times a day. The Apple Play integration has major problems with volume levels, and I could go on for pages about the bugs and functionality that was overlooked. Overall it seems like Kenwood stopped beta testing about half way through and just sent it upstairs for retail distribution as "good enough". I will never buy another Kenwood audio product after have two miserable receivers in a row.

Pros: looks cool, some features work properly

Cons: most functions work very poorly and the software is very unstable

I recently had this unit installed into my 2014 dodge challenger. After downloading the Android Auto to my Galaxy S6 / Note 3 I had a little trouble getting Android Auto to work. This issue was with the USB cable not the head unit. After using the factory USB cable that came with my phone Android Auto work flawlessly on both phones. The unit have plenty of customization option. If your car supports Idatalink Maestro RR you will not regret spending the extra money for it. It provides a lot of valuable information about you car such as tire pressure and service error codes. I highly recommend this unit.

Pros: Android Auto Sound Quality Customization options Controls Features

Cons: a little expensive (but you get a lot of features for the money)

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I got this unit for my 2014 Mazda CX-5, with the PAC RP4-MZ11 harness. This is my first high end head aftermarket head unit I've ever purchased. It has all the bells and whistles. CarPlay works, Android Auto works. I have a Nexus 6 for use with Android Auto, though sometimes Android Auto lags or gives a blank screen. I have to pick a different option then go back and it will refresh. Colors and color settings on the Kenwood isn't very good, it's hard to adjust and get proper colors and be able to see light background when showing music coverart during Android Auto. Also the screen looks low resolution during Android Auto, not sure if it's Kenwood or Android Auto issue. The "AppsMode" is interesting, but the Android App needs a lot of work. Since my Nexus 6 does not have video out, I installed a Chromecast and set my Nexus 6 as a hotspot. But "controlling" the phone via the Kenwood didn't work properly, the screen/touch alignment and can't fix. I have everything working, CarPlay, Android Auto, AV1 input (Using Zune HD and SoundGate interface), HD Radio, HDMI input, Auxiliary input (using AV2), rear view camera (had to make custom adapter), steering wheel controls. I have the BOSE speaker system in my CX-5 and this Kenwood sounds great on it! Unfortunately, I'm not very good at configuring audio and there are a lot of speaker settings in the Kenwood. There's also no easy Treble/Bass settings, it's all with the 7 point EQ. So far I leave it at 'Natural' EQ and sounds great.

Pros: CarPlay, Android Auto. HDMI, AV inputs. Rear View camera switching is quick.

Cons: Only 1 USB port, no SD card slot, color settings, no treble/bass setting, complex audio setup, bluetooth phonebook on Android buggy. UI is ok (I think all aftermarket head unit UI are horrible)

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I sent it back. It's a mish-mash of applications that don't work together. Took five cables and two Google Nexus phones before I got a combination that worked for Android Auto. Unfortunately it wasn't my phone, a Nexus 4, unrooted, running 5.1.1. And once I got Android Auto to work, it was a PAIN to get other functionality to work. Excessive static and dropped signal on backup camera. SiriusXM sound quality is horrid (imagine putting speakers in a garbage can and filling with water). User interface for things other than Android Auto is a joke. I train people on how to use technology but with the printed manual in my hand, a searchable PDF version on one iPad and Google search window on another I was unable to do some of the most basic things I expect from a radio. Crutchfield tech support was great, but couldn't get me functioning. SiriusXM tech support was a joke. The answer to everything is "we'll send a refresh signal." Don't try this at home and certainly don't try it while driving.

Pros: It looks cool, and gives you bragging rights.

Cons: Everything. Took dash, interior and trunk lid of my 2010 Jetta apart multiple times over three days tracing connections and confirming connections to Sirius XM, AM antenna and backup camera were correct to no avail. Got AM radio to work by piecing together parts from three different Scosche adapter kits.

    Very buggy.

Apple Car Play worked first time I plugged it in with an IPhone 6. Only thing I can't get to work with the Apple Car Play is the ITunes radio. Keeps saying unavailable and to turn Cellular usage on which it is. Maps and Spotify works great. Android Auto is another story. I tried a Galaxy S5, Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Edge, and Galaxy Note 4 Edge. I also tried 3 different cables. I couldn't get anything to work except the Galaxy S6. Started out it would stay on 5 - 10 seconds and then would kick me off. Then I got it to work for up to an hour at a time. Now it's back to kicking me off fairly quickly. Also on Spotify with Android Auto, when you click Your Music and then Artist, will only show the first 10 artist. So if you want to listen to the 15th artist on the list, it doesn't even show up. You then have to use the voice command which can take some time. I called Kenwood about what I was experiencing with the Android Auto and they notified me unit just came out and can't test it with every phone. As you can see above, I think I tried all the current most popular phones. She told me somebody farther up the Tec Support chain would call me in the next couple days. 2-1/2 weeks later and still no call. I have a Mustang with the Maestro. It's been upgraded slightly and works good. Music sounds better then last years model especially the bass thru the Shaker system. If buying for Apple, I'd say buy it. If buying for Android, I'd wait for bugs to get worked out.

Pros: Apple Car Play, Sound, Maestro Mustang Controls

Cons: Android Auto is a DISASTER

    Worth the wait!

I really wanted to add a backup camera to my 2007 Toyota Tacoma. At night it was really difficult to see behind me. I started researching double din head units, and decided that if I was going to buy one that I would want it to have CarPlay capabilities. I was not a fan of the Alpine option because it did not offer other basic features like bluetooth. I also did not care for the offerings from Pioneer, as their designs and overall interface did not appeal to me (especially the windows xp look-alike buttons). I waited for the DDX9902s to finally be released, and installed it as soon as I received it. It was my first double din install, so I had some help. It was really fairly easy, and looks great. It has so many cool features, and is a really attractive stereo. I love CarPlay and my new backup camera. I will update this review after I spend more time with this product.

    Pros: CarPlay, Sound Quality, Interface

Cons: A little expensive, but well worth it.

    Touchscreen & Remote Control

6.95" Touchscreen Display: The Kenwood Excelon DDX9902S features a motorized 6.95" widescreen (16:9) touchscreen LCD with LED backlighting. The LCD touchscreen has a resolution of 800 (H) x 480 (V) x RGB with 1,152,000 total pixels. This unit has touchscreen controls with easy-to-identify icons, making menu navigation easy. The monitor electronically slides down for loading or ejecting a disc. The bottom of the touchscreen monitor can be tilted upward at six different positions to provide the best visibility in your vehicle (you can save any one of these positions to the head unit's memory).

    • Aspect Ratio & Picture Adjustment: You can change the aspect ratio for video playback. You can select from Full (16:9), Just (4:3 LB), or Normal (4:3), or Auto (automatically selects to match incoming video signal). You can also adjust the unit's display brightness, contrast, color, tint, sharpness, and black level to suit your viewing needs during video playback.
    • Custom Top Menu & Background Images: You can customize the Top Menu by rearranging the icons and moving the icons you use most to the front page. You can even download a still image (800 x 600) for use as the unit's background from a connected USB thumbdrive.
    • Clock Display: The DVD receiver offers a 12-hour clock which is visible from any source or menu screen. With your vehicle's key in the accessory or start position, the head unit will continue to display the LCD background image, clock, and button illumination during "Standby" mode. Pressing and holding the Power/Menu button turns the unit off completely.
Note: To prevent the display of video while the vehicle is in motion, the light green wire (attached to rear chassis) must be connected to the vehicle's parking brake detection circuit. You cannot view video unless your vehicle's parking brake is engaged. If you attempt to view video without the parking brake engaged, the unit's LCD touchscreen will simply display a blue screen and "Parking Off". While your vehicle is in motion (parking brake off), you can still view all of the head unit's menu screens/settings, source information, metadata, and album artwork; as well as Apps Mode, CarPlay, and Android Auto.

Front-Panel Controls w/ Variable Color Illumination: In addition to the touchscreen controls, the unit includes frequently used buttons along the bottom edge of the screen. You can adjust the head unit's button illumination, as well as display background color from the following preset colors - Blue, Purple, Sky Blue, Aqua, Yellow, Green, Amber, Red, Pink, White or Scan (Scans through all preset colors). You can also select a custom "User" color that is adjusted between Red, Green, and Blue (values range: 0-31). You can save up to 3 custom color presets. The Kenwood logo and eject button remain red, regardless of variable color illumination setting.

Remote Control: The Kenwood Excelon DDX9902S offers compatibility with factory steering wheel controls (adapter sold separately) and is compatible with Kenwood's IR wireless remote control (sold separately) for added convenience.

    • Steering Wheel Remote Compatibility: The head unit features an OEM steering wheel remote control input wire (blue/yellow) within the included wiring harness that lets you keep your vehicle's factory radio steering wheel remote controls when used with an optional steering wheel audio control adapter (sold separately). Please consult Crutchfield's Outfit My Car to see if your vehicle is compatible.
    • Optional Remote Control: The optional Kenwood KNA-RCDV331 IR wireless remote control (113RCDV331, sold separately) unit is designed to operate this Kenwood DVD head unit. The wireless remote controller operates off of two supplied "AAA" batteries. The remote operates off of IR transmission so the KNA-RCDV331 must be pointed at the front-panel of the Kenwood head unit within direct line of sight.

Security Indicator: The Security Indicator feature helps to protect the Kenwood Excelon DDX9902S against theft. Turning this function "On" allows the security indicator light (red) on the front-panel of the head unit to flash when your vehicle's ignition is off.

2-DIN Chassis: The DDX9902S has a 2-DIN chassis (also known as "Double-DIN"), and will fit in many vehicles with a large dash opening. The unit can be ISO-mounted using factory brackets, or Euro-mounted using the supplied mounting sleeve. As always, please consult Crutchfield's Outfit My Car to verify fit with your vehicle.

    Built-in Bluetooth

Bluetooth Technology: The Kenwood Excelon DDX9902S is equipped with built-in Bluetooth (3.0+EDR) allowing you to make and receive phone calls wirelessly through the receiver; as well as stream music wirelessly from your smartphone to the head unit. Note: Separate EQ settings and EQ presets are stored for each source (Disc, Tuner, USB, iPod, Bluetooth, and Pandora/iHeart Radio).

Volume Level & Bass Management: The DVD receiver offers several volume level adjustments to tailor the audio output of your sources. The DDX9902S also provides bass management to get the most impact out of your system.

    • Volume Offset: The level of each source may be independently adjusted to prevent radical leaps in output volume when switching from one source to another. The available settings range from -8 to +6.
    • Dynamic Range: The dynamic range can be adjusted by selecting either Normal, Wide or Dialog. Dialog makes the total sound volume become larger as compared with Wide and Normal, allowing you to listen to the movie's dialogue more clearly. This is effective only on Dolby Digital software.
    • Bass Boost & DC Extension: The DDX9902S features a four-step Bass Boost (Off/1/2/3) to enhance your music's lower frequencies. When "Bass DC Extension is turned on, frequencies lower than 6.25 Hz are set the same gain level as the unit's 7-Band EQ 62.5 Hz gain setting.
    • Loudness: This function enhances low and high frequencies to make the sound clearer lower volumes.

Key Beep: The in-dash DVD head unit provides an audible beep to confirm button operation. This function can be turned On or Off.

    AV + OEM Connectivity

Dual A/V Inputs: The Kenwood DDX9902S DVD receiver is fitted with two rear-panel audio/video inputs. Both AV inputs consist of a 3.5mm jack for connection of an external AV source; such as TV tuner, Blu-ray player, or game system. The optional Kenwood AV cable (113CAC3AV, sold separately) provides composite video/stereo RCA audio inputs. The AV-2 input also serves as the A/V input for your USB-connected iPod (using proprietary Kenwood cable).

HDMI/MHL Input: The In addition to Apps mode for iPhone and Android, the head unit's HDMI/MHL input can be used to connect almost any external mobile AV source with an HDMI output; such as a TV tuner, Blu-ray player, or game system. The HDMI input will provide video and audio playback. Your vehicle's parking brake will need to be engaged to view video on the receiver's screen. Playback functions will need to be controlled from your HDMI-connected device.

A/V Output (with Dual Zone): The unit features a composite video jack and 3.5mm audio jack to output A/V signals to an optional monitor and headphone system. The unit's A/V output can be set to Disc, AV-1, USB, iPod, or Off. You can adjust the volume of the 2nd Zone independently from 0 to 35. You can select between a 16:9, 4:3 LB, or 4:3 PS Aspect Ratio for the unit's video output to match your connected monitor.

Note: Different sources from iPod/iPhone cannot be set as front and rear sources independently. Only one iPod/iPhone source can be set as front and rear sources. Apps mode and the HDMI/MHL input are not available to the second zone.

Camera Input: The unit features a composite video input for connecting an optional rear view camera, such as the Kenwood CMOS-230  (113CMOS230, sold separately). By connecting a rear view camera, you can use the in-dash receiver's touchscreen LCD to see what's behind you when backing up.

    • Auto Switching: The video from this connection can be set to display when switched to this input, or display the rear view camera video automatically when the vehicle is shifted into Reverse gear. The purple/white wire (attached to rear chassis) must be connected to the vehicle's reverse lamp circuit for automatic video switching. Automatic video switching takes approximately 1.1 seconds.
    • Parking Guide Lines: When a rear-view camera is connected and you are viewing a rear view image, parking guide lines appear on-screen making parking easy and safer.
Note: The rear view camera feature is meant as a back-up aid only; never solely rely on the rear-view camera when backing-up. In addition to using the rear-view camera, always look behind you to make sure everything is clear when backing up your vehicle.

GPS Receiver & Antenna: The Kenwood head unit features a built-in GPS receiver and comes with a GPS antenna to enhance the performance of the unit's navigation apps from CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as Apps Mode.

OEM Integration: This Kenwood DVD receiver is compatible with the iDatalink Maestro RR (794ADSMRR, sold separately); a web programmable module that will permit the aftermarket Kenwood receiver to work with select Ford, Lincoln, and Mercury vehicles that feature the factory SYNC system; as well as select GM vehicles with factory OnStar; select Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep vehicles with U-Connect, and select Volkswagens with factory digital amplifier. The iDatalink Maestro RR lets Ford/Lincoln/Mercury, GM, Dodge/Chrysler, and VW owners swap out their factory radio for this aftermarket Kenwood head unit; while retaining the Ford Sync system, GM OnStar system, Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep U-Connect system, steering wheel controls, Bluetooth, USB interface, Satellite Radio, and 911 assist. You also get to keep the hands-free mic that comes with the car (which is specially tuned to that particular vehicle). In some installations, the iDatalink Maestero RR lets you configure the head unit to operate interior climate controls and provides extra visual data; such as User Selectable Gauges, Vehicle Info (Tire Pressure/Battery Voltage/Check Engine Codes/Door Ajar Warning), and Visual Park Assist.

Note: The iDatalink Maestro RR is web programmable, which means you'll need to flash the iDatalink Maestor RR interface module with the correct firmware from iDatalink's website. In addition to flashing the iDatalink Maestro RR module, you'll also need a vehicle specific harness (sold separately). The Kenwood receiver's OEM Setup menu must also be configured with your compatible vehicle's factory system before initial operation.

    Why did you buy this?

I wanted to upgrade my factory stereo in my 2013 Subaru Impreza. I like Kenwood so I didn't really consider any other option. I wanted a new model that was touch screen. This was a lot of money. It better be worth it!! [ Michael  Feb 19, 2016 ]

You will want to contact an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat to discuss compatibility with your factory system. They will be able to pull up your vehicle and see if this will integrate. If it does not, then they will also be able to discuss other options with you. [ Kenny  Aug 20, 2016 ]  Staff
Yes you have to have it hanging out under the dash but my recommendation is DONT BUY THIS UNIT. Has been nothing but problems. Thanks, Mike [ Pamela  Mar 29, 2016 ]
    Yes. Yes. [ JOSHUA D  Mar 25, 2016 ]
It's a cord off of the back. I ran mine thru a cubby under the radio. I attach my phone and close the door. [ Robert  Mar 25, 2016 ]
Its only for CarPlay [ Eugene Pinchback  Mar 25, 2016 ]
The usb port isn't actually on the back. It's on the end of a wire that comes off of the back. I have mine hidden from view, but still accessible if I want to change what is plugged in to it. [ Brandon  Mar 25, 2016 ]
My radio kit actually had a usb port attached to it. On my other vehicles I purchased a usb port, cut a hole out in a convenient location and mounted it. Parts express sells them. If not it will be loosely lying wherever you have it coming out at. [ Alan  Mar 26, 2016 ]
The USB connection is a cable that comes from the back of the radio. I ran it to the glove box and hook up there. [ CARL  Mar 26, 2016 ]
    Yes. [ John  Mar 25, 2016 ]
I guess you can do that. But I bought an extra-long (6') USB Cable for my iPhone and I routed it beneath my gear-shifter, to my cubby area, so I can hold it in my hand, when needed. Or you could run your device-USB cable over to your glove-box and leave a device in your glove-box, to work it via your Kenwood receiver. [ roger  Mar 25, 2016 ]
Yes. I have one hanging down that I have to plug in to my Android phone to use Android auto. Awesome setup though. [ Mark  Mar 25, 2016 ]
A cord extension is one way to do it. My dash kit ( included a spot where the phone sits with a USB port just above. [ Christopher  Mar 25, 2016 ]
You could. In my jeep I have the cord coming out of the top of dash above the stereo where there is a tray of sorts. You route it wherever. [ Drew  Mar 25, 2016 ]
The USB port is on a cord that is long enough to come out from under the dash [ Austin  Mar 25, 2016 ]
I ran the usb cord into the glovebox and connect my device there. [ Damon  Mar 25, 2016 ]
Yes, though it seems a bit clunky, that is precisely what one does. [ JCL  Mar 25, 2016 ]
Not the actual boot up screen, but, the background can be changed. It even includes instructions on adding your own backgrounds. [ Robert  Feb 17, 2016 ]
Yes it is very easy, I changed the splash screen to the logo/badge of my car, it looks more like a factory installation when the unit is in standby. [ Dale  Feb 16, 2016 ]
There are instructions available. I have had issue doing it because part of the sequence involves the reset button. I'm not sure what the issue is, but on my unit the reset button is not pressable. Like it's not a button at all. I don't know if mine is a dud or if this is supposed to be this way. But I have read of people doing it with success. [ Brandon  Feb 16, 2016 ]
I've had it for a few months. Have looked several times at expanding its capabilities. Haven't seen anything about GPS. It does have a supplemental GPS antenna, but it only enhances your phones input. It has no navigation software of its own. Pulls strictly from android/apple. Hope that helps. [ Brandon  Jan 17, 2016 ]
You must have a smartphone with gps, connected by usb to the deck [ Jeremy  Jan 17, 2016 ]
I have not found a software pack on the Kenwood site to add GPS. The hardware appears to be present. [ george  Jan 17, 2016 ]
There is an optional antenna. It works great and is very inexpensive. I bought Ali of the things they suggested when I made the purchase. Made everything work great. [ Tony  Jan 16, 2016 ]
The Kenwood Excelon DDX9902's DSP is used to set the type of vehicle, speaker sizes & locations, listening distances, and cross-over points. Those are the only features that would be affected if you bypassed the DSP, everything else would continue to work as-is. [ Larry  Jan 06, 2016 ]  Staff

We checked with Kenwood, and they stated that this model does not support pinch and zoom. [ Jeff  Jan 06, 2016 ]  Staff
It does not. You can move the window around while you drive, but zooming commands must be done with the on screen controls... [ JEFFREY R  Jan 04, 2016 ]
Honestly, I'm not sure. I never got the NAV mode to work (or activate?) You may want to re-read the description because I didnt even see it in the menu screen. I bought this particular radio because I thought it had everything that I wanted. (My unit was OPEN-BOX. Maybe I was missing something? A NAV CD? But I didnt press the issue because I didn't even see NAV as an option) I love the radio, especially Car-Play. It really works well. [ roger  Jan 03, 2016 ]
No. The screen is not a capacitive touch screen, it is a resistive touch. When in app mode, it only allows screen mirroring. If you are in Carplay/Android Auto mode, the unit is limited to single touch gestures only, in my experience with the unit. [ JAMES C  Jan 01, 2016 ]
Up any angle up to 180 (?)degrees flat down none at all. Only one direction. [ Christopher  Dec 15, 2015 ]
It tilts up...I don't believe it tilts down though. You can set the level of tilt you want it to have, It automatically adjusts to that everytime you turn the stereo on. [ MARK  Dec 15, 2015 ]
    Just down [ Nicholaus  Dec 15, 2015 ]
II have not installed my unit yet, but my research suggests the answer is yes. [ Leon  Nov 20, 2015 ]
CarPlay capable stereos (like this Kenwood) offer a 1-wire connection from your phone to a USB input (you can even use the Lightning to USB cable that came with your phone) so, no, HDMI is not used for this feature. The HDMI is an audio/video input so there is no option for directly connecting a hard drive to HDMI. If you want CarPlay & the ability to connect a USB mass storage device, you may want to consider the Pioneer AVIC-4100 NEX model as it offers 2 USB ports: I hope that helps! [ Ryan  Nov 06, 2015 ]  Staff
I think the GPS provides location into to the phone to improve nav. [ Christopher  Mar 25, 2016 ]
I was able to mount my GPS antenna inside the dash of my Honda and I have had zero issues with reception. [ Robert  Feb 17, 2016 ]
The GPS antenna is included and its designed to mount onto the outside of the vehicle to get a better, more stable signal from the GPS satellites in the sky. So that you get more accurate directions when using one of the smartphone interfaces (and compatible smart phone) that this receiver offers. [ Paul  Nov 03, 2015 ]  Staff
For details on fit or installation please contact an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They will be able to pull up your vehicle and give you the details on if this will fit and what you will need for an installation in your vehicle. [ Krissy  Oct 27, 2015 ]  Staff
Absolutely. Our "Open Box" items come with the full manufacturers warranty. [ Jeff  Oct 27, 2015 ]  Staff
Not sure (curious) what you would do with a front camera...but it would be installed just as a rear camera is and that depends on where it its being installed. The connector on the receiver is a video in. The RCA yellow jack but do not confuse this with an RCA audio jack. The camera should be compatible with the specific radio so make sure the Crutchfield staff confirms you have compatible camera for your unit. [ Ralph  Oct 26, 2015 ]
    It works well [ Jennifer  Oct 23, 2015 ]
We did not install a front camera. We did install a rear camera. [ Terry  Oct 22, 2015 ]
I do not have a front camera or rear camera installed. [ John  Oct 22, 2015 ]
I have many mp4 (and mkv, if you were wondering during on a USB drive and have had absolutely no problems playing any of them. The only thing that is mildly annoying is that the video can't be higher resolution than 720p. Anything above that and it won't play it. [ Brandon  Oct 21, 2015 ]
    No u can't [ Eugene Pinchback  Feb 16, 2016 ]
The front plate does not come off. Only the Pioneer 4100nex has the removable front plate. [ jerry  Sep 13, 2015 ]
The short answer is it depends....It has mounting frame and screws...but...I installed in a Jeep Wrangler and the mounts would not work, so I had to buy an additional mounting kit. If you go through the add to cart process by selecting your vehicle, then it should show you if you need anything else. I also needed an antenna adapter and car module adapter (I picked Maestro with proper wire harness). I am loving this radio so far....still learning all the features [ Michael  Sep 03, 2015 ]
You can choose one when you check out, there is an extra cost associated with it. [ Jeff  Sep 03, 2015 ]
Crutchfield gives you the instal kit for free along with the antenna adapter. They also give you the wiring kit for 50% off. [ LANCE  Sep 03, 2015 ]
No, I had to buy the dash kit and harness. Crutchfield offers a discount on accessories if you order them with the unit. [ Charles  Sep 03, 2015 ]
Yes crutchfield supplies wire harness & dash kit [ Jeremy  Sep 03, 2015 ]
Crutchfield provides a free installation kit with the purchase of this radio. stereo Ive ever had !!! [ MARK  Sep 03, 2015 ]
It fits in a double din opening in the Tundra. Should fit in any other double din opening. [ jerry  Sep 13, 2015 ]
Hi Yes, this fits a standard double din aperture. [ Roalh  Aug 15, 2015 ]
This unit fit into my Lancer Evo X standard double din opening. It may be due to the awkward plastic shape but I had to maneuver the dash a bit as I wrapped it back over because it was catching on the tiny buttons on the bottom. [ Christopher  Aug 11, 2015 ]
Yes, I believe so. The unit comes with a gps booster antenna. [ Matthew  Aug 03, 2015 ]
I haven't used the nav yet but would imagine it would cut out. [ Jamie  Jul 31, 2015 ]
The gps runs off the phone, mirrored to the stereo. However, an iPhone has GPS that is not dependent on cell coverage. The GPS may not work due to something blocking the signal such as a mountain or tall building, metal in your car. [ Jeremy  Jul 31, 2015 ]
For details on fit or installation please contact an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They will be able to pull up your vehicle and give you the details on if this will fit and what you will need for an installation in your vehicle. [ Krissy  Jul 27, 2015 ]  Staff
I forwarded your question to an Advisor and they responded with the following: The unit features a composite video jack and 3.5mm audio jack to output A/V signals to an optional monitor and headphone system; you can also route the audio of the the dual zone source to the head unit's rear speakers. If you would like to discuss further you can contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. We have not received any answers from other customers on your question. I would recommend reaching out to an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They should be able to help answer your question. [ Jeff  Jul 20, 2015 ]  Staff
The MHL/HDMI port will allow screen mirroring of a device attached to it, e.g. an iPhone with AV adapter or an Android device that has an HDMI port and is MHL capable. However, you will not be able to use gestures or interact with the connected device, as it only functions as an external display for the device. [ JAMES C  Jan 01, 2016 ]
ONly compatible with MHL according to the product literature. [ jerry  Sep 13, 2015 ]
We have not received any answers from other customers on your question. I would recommend reaching out to an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They should be able to help answer your question. [ Jeff  Jul 20, 2015 ]  Staff
I forwarded your question to an Advisor and they responded with the following: This Kenwood deck comes with a GPS antenna with an attached 11.5' cable. It is terminated by a proprietary connector so unfortunately no extension is available. If you would like to discuss further you can contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. [ Krissy  Jul 17, 2015 ]  Staff
IT does scroll and I believe it can be made stagnant but it looks different than the Pioneer. The pioneer text 8's much larger and scrolls on o e line where the kenwood scrolls the same information on multiple lines. [ jerry  Sep 13, 2015 ]
Under the settings menu you have the option to select consistent scrolling. [ Charles  Sep 03, 2015 ]
    It is stagnant [ Matthew  Aug 03, 2015 ]
So far I have only seen it stagnant, I have not seen it scroll so far. [ LANCE  Jul 13, 2015 ]
The Rapid Charge technology that the Nexus 6 utilizes runs off of a 12V charging voltage. If you have the original Motorola charger that came with it, look at the ratings on that charger and you will see what I mean. The charger intelligently changes the voltage to vary the charging speed. This head unit PROBABLY only charges using 5V (standard USB voltage). [ Sean  Aug 21, 2015 ]
I forwarded your question to an Advisor and they responded with the following: I am able to tell you that the USB is 'USB 2.0 High Speed and delivers DC 5 V 1.5 A ' From what I can tell, most of the rapid chargers seem to put out more Amps than this, so I am not sure if it has enough power to rapid charge. If you would like to discuss further you can contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. [ Krissy  Jul 09, 2015 ]  Staff
I forwarded your question to an Advisor and they responded with the following: Kenwood does not provide the startup time on this unit and it is still a preordered item which means we have not gotten internal research yet. I can guarantee it will be quicker than the DNN990HD as the DDX9902 is not a navigation receiver. Typically slow start up times are a result of the built in navigation systems. If you would like to discuss further you can contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. [ Krissy  Jul 06, 2015 ]  Staff
I forwarded your question to an Advisor and they responded with the following: This would be Resistive. Only the DNN models offer the capacitive touch screen.
