    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Beautiful unit, well built, and easy to install. However, the speed of the read (particularly for MP3/WMA CDs) and reliability of the read is questionable. The documentation for all the whistles and bells is lacking.

    Pros: Well built, attractive.

    Cons: Read reliability and speed.

Got this for my work van and all the guys love it. More sound options than just an am/fm radio, with access and control of Pandora, iPhone, and Android.

Pros: Variable display color to match your dash lights, cd, usb, auxilary inputs, and Pandora, iHeartRadio, and Sirius/XM control.

Cons: When using Pandora, you have to wait for the unit to connect to the iPhone, and press "allow" on your iPhone screen to complete the connection. Once that's done, you now have control from the unit.

    Good basic stereo

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Bought this to have Sirius satellite radio without having to have plug and play unit. Wiring was easy, fit dash adapter fine. Simple design, but controls can be tricky. Haven't figured out how to control color display on unit. It rotates through all colors, red, blue, green, and orange. Wish I could figure out how to keep it set up on blue or green to match dash lighting.

Pros: Easy wiring, decent sound. Would be better with quality speakers. Currently running Pioneer 6x8s on doors and stock speakers on rear deck. Will eventually upgrade to a powered sub and maybe some component speakers.

Cons: Controls can be tricky to figure out. I'm sure I'll get used to them with repeated use,.

This is a great low priced radio that fit the car exactly as indicated. Has a little trouble with the wiring, but after installed worked great.

Pros: Arrived fast, great instructions and was easy to install. GREAT PRICE FOR RADIO AND 4 SPEAKERS

Cons: Wiring a little hard due to color change in original wiring. Took time to decipher correct wire connection

This unit is a good value sounds great is built solid but it is hard to navigate through all the features. Setting up the mids highs and lows was a bit of a task and it took some time getting used to how the controls work. Also the unit has different colors that change and I am still not sure if I can set it to one color or not. Other than that this this unit works great.

Pros: works good ,lots of features

Cons: Hard to set up tones/ features

Great unit if your looking for a good factory replacement as i was. Good base model don't expect a lot of features. I like the option to be able to play Iheart radio or pandora but if you want to use hands free i would suggest the 500u model

Pros: looks good and sounds good with a set of kenwood speakers.

Pros: Ease of use, installed quickly, looks great in dash, large volume knob, plenty of power so it's louder than stock.

Cons: Display is not bright enough.

    2005 Scion tC
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I've had this deck a few weeks and love it. I drive a Scion with the standard Pioneer system. This unit really pounds the speakers. Honestly, it sounds like I installed new speakers along with the deck! Sound quality is awesome. I love the ipod and USB ports on the driver side, right in the front. Makes them so easy to use. Also, this unit gives you tons of color options to personalize the way your deck looks. Not a functional necessity, but it is a very cool feature. All the necessary wiring harnesses came free of charge, and made installation very quick and easy.

Pros: -Sound quality/display color options -Ease of installation -Fit and finish once installed -Supplied wiring harness and trim finish kits -Good value compared to similar head units

Cons: -The unit literature tells very little about how to set the deck up once installed. It takes a lot of trial and error to figure out how to set the sound profile up.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Fit was good on my 2014 Nissan Versa SV, the kit sent with it did not fit well....I ended up using the brackets from the factory HU.....later I found that the Best Kits BKNDK786 is the best fit for my Versa....the harness was simple to install. Sound was good with factory speakers but now that I installed Polk speakers it really brings the Kenwood HU to life far very happy......

Pros: Easy installation of the HU. The wiring harness was easy to install and connect. And the fact that you can change the screen color to match your vehicles illumination is a plus for me.

Cons: Installation kit sent did not fit my 2014 Nissan Versa SV with fatory single CD HU. See my above review.

It is just what I have been wanting, looks very good after installed fits just like it said it would. Very good sound with original speakers, I had the deluxe speakers already in the car. I would recommend this product very good price.

Pros: I love the Sirius XM, I like how you can see who is singing and the title also. Installs well in Toyota 4runner. Like how you can have any color you want in it.

    Cons: Nothing

    2006 Ford F-150
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Seems to be a good sounding unit. Installation was made confusing by the packer; 1- Included were two different rectangular trim pieces and neither was needed (or fit). 2- The two plactic side mount pieces had to be cut off (4x inner-most tabs) in order for the unit to fit into the dash area. 3- Lots of extra screws?. 4- There was an antenna extension cable that was not needed...good thing since it was for a Chrysler fitment, not Ford.

    Pros: Sounds very good

Cons: Unecessarily complicated settings operations, and the factory only offers view/print option? No download?

Modified fit into a 2000 Ford Explorer, was pretty simple to install myself. Was only able to afford a new head unit with no speakers yet, but I can say this has brought new life into my stock speakers (four 6x8s).

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Installed as part of a full factory replacement on a 2014 Nissan Sentra. Bought this unit to replace a new receiver I installed a few months back because it didn't look quite right in the Double-Din opening. This receiver looks good, sounds great, and it has all the settings and media playing capabilities I would ever need. Navigating the menu takes little time to learn and being able to change the colors to match those of your car is a nice touch.

Cons: So far the only complaint I have is how dim the display appears on a bright sunny day

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Price will often tell you alot about a device. If you are looking at the cheaper range you can't expect to be wowed, which is the case here. This is a good sounding head unit that does all the basics. It does have a few pluses like the usb jack in the front and iphone/ipod control. This unit does not support Bluetooth but the model above this one for a few dollars more does. I was replaceing an aftermarket JVC unit that I had hated ever since I bought the vehicle. This unit looked much better mounted in the dash. It looks like it actually belongs there. The ability to change colors of the display independently from the key colors was a plus that I didn't think i would have liked as much as I do. You can set them to match your dash lights or contrast them. I actually have the display match while my key colors constantly slowly cycle through the spectrum. It's really quite cool. I have no amp connected and it still does a decent job pushing 4 speakers. For the money it is a nice little head unit.

Pros: All the colors you can change the display and the keys too. Looked very good for a cheaper unit sitting in my dash.

Cons: Display can be hard to see in direct sunlight, but the unit it replaced had the same problem.

I bought this as a replacement for my factory head unit..mine stopped ejecting cds and i wanted to add xm radio. I wasn't looking for all the bells and whistles .. just a solid upgrade of my gm unit. this is perfect upgrade for me at a value price. Was easy to install and matches my dash fairly well. This one has easy to use menu buttons and a i have no idea why. This unit has all the outs for amps and also inputs on the face for usb and aux jack. I'll probably buy another one for my s10 project

Pros: value..kenwood double din for the price sounds so much better than my gm radio ease of use..switching between radio and xm color for display easy to match different dash colors

Cons: mine was missing the owner..user manual doesn't have bluetooth if you want that

Crutchfield response on 8/20/2014 These days, many car stereos don't include an owner's manual in the box. Manufacturers either include it on a disc or send you to their website to download it. You can also find it on our website. On the stereo's web page, click on the "Details" tab. At the top of that tab, click on "What's in the box?" or just scroll down below the chart. The first item appearing in the "What's in the box?" box is a link to the owner's manual. You can view it in your browser or download it to your computer.

This unit is a perfect OEM upgrade nice display not too bright at night a little dim in direct sunlight looks really clean in factory location sound quality is very good, does not have the muddy sounding low end of the pioneer that this is replacing. The menu is a little tricky at first but once you figure it out it is pretty straight forward. Great receiver so far and matches dash lights perfectly in my SUV paired with 2 sets of kicker 6.5 sounds very nice.

    Disapointed Now

Carlyle from Peoria AZ on 8/13/2014

I installed this unit in my F250 about a year ago. I bought because the CD player was a feature I really wanted. The Cd player died about a month after the warranty ran out. I am not happy it died so soon with such little use. I did review this unit after I installed it. I still stand by most of what I said. All I am saying now is the unit has proved over a short period of time to lack in quality. I won't buy another one. Another sad part is that I had to modify the dash to put the unit in. I will never do that again either. Now I am stuck. I would leave the dash alone so I could easily install a different unit if needed. Live and learn I guess. If you don't need a CD player you will probably love this unit.

Cons: CD player is junk. Had to modify dash for installation.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is a definite upgrade over the factory stereo, it sounds noticeably better. It was easy to install and the wiring kit makes that part easy. My daughter likes the way the display changes color. The instructions don't explain a lot of the settings but if you sit there and play around with it you can make a good sound combination.

Pros: sounds good, easy to install

Cons: settings/features not explained very well in the instructions

    Very Flexable The DPX300U

    shadetree from Iowa on 7/28/2014

    2003 Oldsmobile Alero
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

As I titled, this unit is very flexible to install in most all environments from standalone factory to a full amped system. New or limited budged users can build from the fully functional head unit without the worry of replacing it or purchasing expensive adapters and such. The operation is strait forward affording the user more direct function buttons without the need to look at the screen using a navigation control as other brands, especially important while driving. The Android App has performed flawless so far. One note, If it wasn't for the USB drive option I know I would need to up my data package. All in all this is a nice unit that offers users mostly what they will ever want or grow to.

Pros: 1.Flexible installation. 2.Beautiful finish and control layout. 3.USB works with Android APP. 4.Tuner is very sensitive. 5.Settings will allow almost any thing a user prefers. 6.USB Drive capable is very fast to access.

Cons: #1. Biggest complaint is the USB file browsing does not list the folder/s name/s. Very difficult to navigate large collections, especially using the common folder format: Artist/Album/ or worse, Artist/Album (with more than one album). 2.Tuner head unit not capable to manual set stations or traveling weak stations, it's a car! Users will need to use the remote. 4.As others have mentioned, the included Start Manual is limited, suggest to download the full manual first to familiarize your needs.

    Great alternative to factory stereo

Bev and Jim from Keyser, WV on 7/27/2014

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Brooke @ Crutchfield recommended the Kenwood DPX300U to us to enable installation of a "hidden" SiriusXM receiver that we wanted to install. Everything necessary to facilitate installation was included in the shipment. And the installation was simple as could be after reviewing the included instructions. Brooke also added some really neat 'crimpless' wiring connectors that gave this installation professional quality without the need for soldering. Removal of factory stereo and installation of Kenwood and SiriusXM receiver was just over two hours and it looks better than the factory stereo.

Pros: Great sound using existing factory speakers. Easy installation with the install gear that was provided. Great looking multi-colored display. Seamless installation of SiriusXM receiver. Lighter than factory radio being replaced.

    Cons: None so far.

I dinged the value here only because the DPX 500 BT, which is bluteooth enabled, is only $40 more. I don't feel like switching the system. but I wish I had known that when I ordered the DPX 300 U.

Pros: Easy to use - my previous system had an interface where one knob tilted and turned to control all features - that was not usable when I was driving. The DPX 300 U is considerably simpler.

The Kenwood unit was an excellent choice for the Sliverado. The fit was perfect. Sound quality is above the OEM unit that was in the dash. As far as pricing the value was very good. The display on the unit puts to shame the original unit. Add in Crutchfields outstanding service and you can't go wrong.

So far so good. After having the factory unit fail twice I decided it was time for an aftermarket unit. Having dealt with Crutchfield before they were my first choice. The Kenwood DPX 300U is a great unit. The quality of sound over the factory unit with just the head change is outstanding. I wish I hadn't wasted my money having the original factory unit repaired at the first failure.

Pros: Ease of installation, overall quality, everything required for a neat install included and awesome sound quality. My car sound system never sounded better.

Cons: The direction to set the clock were wrong. However a one minute call to Crutchfield's tech line resolved that problem. Thanks to Carl on the tech team!

I just had this installed and for the most part I'm satisfied with the unit. It's attractve, sound is fine but I had to download the owner's manual, and print some pages to be able to set some of the functions. Not being very tech saavy I found it a bit difficult initially . Now I've gotten more used to it. What I REALLY don't like is the difficulty to see the display in daylight. I tried various colors to no avail. It's really almost impossible to see in any kind of light.Even with the dimmer off. Sure does detract from the overall rating. BE SURE to order the optional tuner if you want satellite radio. It's optional( I missed that and didn't order it)

    Pros: Most everything,nice looks,price,sound.

Cons: Display nearly impossible to see in daylight. A bit difficult to use AT FIRST.

I finally got around to replacing the factory unit in my '01 Subaru Legacy. This is my first Double-Din unit, but it's the fourth Kenwood that I've owned, and I am VERY happy with it. Very clean sound, great controls and user interface, and tons of options for customizing the sound, and every other aspect of the unit.

Pros: Excellent value. Beautiful design. Simple and elegant, doesn't stick out like a sore thumb; actually looks like it belongs in the car! Front USB Port. MORE AMPLIFICATION than most other aftermarket head units(88 watts RMS). If you don't want to spend the $ on a dedicated amplifier for your speakers, Kenwood is the only way to go; and if you ever do decide to add an amp for a subwoofer, or speakers, or both, all the preamp outputs you'd ever need are there.

The Unit has great sound, sourcing can be CD, AM/FM, MP3, USB drive. If you are into "Cool", it offers multiple colors to select from for the display, none of which do well in direct sunlight which means in my Convertible I can see the display at night or with the top up. I tend to use a Flash drive as my input with my choice of music so the display is just a little aggravation versus a substantial problem.

Pros: Great Sound, Outputs for: Subwoofer, Rear entertainment systems, Amp. All kinds of Source inputs. It has a very modern appearance. I'd say for someone with a major Amp/Subwoofer system this would be a good choice

Cons: The front is really cluttered. The On/Off/ Source button is miniscule and located right above the USB port. With the exception of the Volume Knob every control is small to tiny. The display is large, no trouble seeing Artist, Title, etc as they go scrolling across (unless the top is down and the sun is shining) I am probably going to apply a layer of 2" clear tape to the Display area as to is very high gloss and will show the smallest of abrasions from the most careful cleaning.

Found this to be a very high quality receiver for the price. It has all the features of the high end models at a much lower out of pocket cost. This one is also user friendly, very easy to set up for display and sound shape.

Pros: As long as your not trying to blow out an ear drum! this has just the right amount of output power. The color choice and being able to modify colors on keys as well as the display is a very nice feature. The single touch ATT that in an instant lowers the volume to next to nothing and then allows you to return right back is one great feature. The ease of use is also a very nice feature, the remote is just the right size so you dont have to fumble for the buttons.

Cons: Down loading and PDF printing of the actual operators manual was a con but if you have a lazer printer and a three ring binder your all set. The receiver has a Gloss Black finish and matches poorly to most vehicle dash boards that have more of a Matt Finish. It also has a glossy and very smooth face, this is very reflective and likes to colect dust on it. I find myseld carrying a small micro fiber towel now to give the front of the unit a fast wipe every couple of days.

I purchased this stereo as a replacement for the JVC KW-XR610 head unit that was previously installed in my 1995 Buick Roadmaster. I liked the JVC. It looked good in the car, delivered excellent sound quality and was easy to use. Unfortunately, the buttons intermittently stopped working before it finally died after only three years of use. I was very disappointed on two levels. First, when I purchase an expensive stereo from a supposedly good brand, I expect it to last. Second, the JVC's failure forced me to disassemble and reassemble the dashboard on an almost-twenty year old car that you cannot get interior parts for anymore. Not wanting to relive the JVC debacle, I decided to go with Kenwood on the advice of a coworker who is knowledgeable about electronics. It was also the most stock-looking double din stereo available for the application. Almost all the other stereos I looked at were grotesque looking. The Good: Installation was reasonably quick and painless, taking less than a couple of hours. The Crutchfield website indicated that this stereo would not fit my in car. However, it fits seamlessly into the dashboard stereo bezel with no need for spacers and actually looks (more or less) like it's supposed to be there. The customizable display is nice because you can set it to match the rest of the dashboard lights exactly. Nothing looks more out of place than a bright blue/red/orange radio surrounded mellow green lights everywhere else. The sound quality is at least as good as the stock GM and the JVC units were (although not noticeably better). It is highly customizable, so you have to tinker with the audio controls a lot to make it sound right. The Pandora compatibility is a nice touch.

Cons: The Bad: Both the placement of the controls and the layout of the user interface lack dramatically. The buttons are all too small (with the exception of the six presets) and are not easy to operate while driving. Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I drive a 1997 Honda CR-V and have been using the original OEM receiver for the 14 years I've owned the vehicle. I wanted the ability to listen to my extensive mp3 collection while driving and this was the perfect upgrade! Very reasonably priced and this does just about everything you would want for a CD receiver. This was easy to install on my own- took me about 4 hours from start to finish with one call to Crutchfield tech support, but if you've ever done this sort of thing before it would probably take just a couple of hours. The variable color display is great- with 24 options, I found an exact match to my vehicle's dash color display. The sound is outstanding even with stock speakers, so I can't wait to hear what it sounds like when I upgrade the speakers. The preset EQ options all make noticeable improvements to different styles of music. I bought a Kingston Digital 32 GB micro USB drive, which is just the right size to store the maximum 255 folders/255 files per folder that this receiver can read. I leave it connected all the time and now I have around 500 hours of music constantly at my fingertips. It's kind of slow to advance through that many folders (no iPod-style spinning through the list, you just have to press buttons to go forward or back), but that's a nice problem to have. This receiver has a clock, which I definitely need and most other double-DIN receivers did not have. All in all, an excellent purchase and I am very pleased with this receiver!

Pros: Easy to install, USB input, adjustable color display, excellent sound quality.

Cons: The display is hard to read in bright daylight (looks great at night, though).

Great shop, took less than 45 minutes to install head unit and rockford-fosgate 6X8's in all four doors. Keep my factory 8" sub and the sound is truly fantastic. Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Easy install, only cost $65 for a professional to do it, plug in the GM adaptor and get it going. I purchased the Kenwood DPX300U over the DPX500BT as I did not want bluetooth, phones, or even Sirus Radio, ONSTAR and GM getting my GPS, starting or stopping my vehicle if they liked, or some hacker hijacking the car/truck while I am in it or not. The Kenwood really pulls in FM stations, and puts down a very clean signal to the speakers. If you are upgrading your Factory system as I was (2008 Avalanche) then put in new speakers as the factory speakers are really poor quality and can not even handle factory sound. The free antenna adaptor is necessary as the factory antenna has three holes to bolt it down and one center hole for the antenna wire, to upgrade the antenna on the fender is an expensive bit of labor. so go to a window antenna if you can. Fender antenna like the ones they put on boats are cheap at $11 but three hours of body work to put them in despite being the equivalent of 40 feet long (the wire is coiled inside the rubber) so they work really good. The GM adaptor integrator so that the steering wheel paddles and buttons work, well they all work better but slightly differently then the factory setup. I am very happy with the radio and how it works in the Avalanche.

Pros: It looks great, easy to use with the big buttons on the Kenwood, and color at night is spot on correct to factory dash lights if you want to set it for that. I am very happy with the purchase and the package Crutchfield put together with their Tech Team. Take your time on what you want to purchase, and talk on the phone or use the chat room. Then get all you need in one go especially the free stuff in package sales. Well worth the effort.

Cons: Nothing negative to say ... all good.

I wanted something to replace my factory radio/CD player, but didn't want more than I needed. This Kenwood unit filled the bill. Perfect fit where my original radio was, double din. Plenty of features without going overboard. It was an easy install, and even with the original speakers sounds far better than the original. Will replace the speakers eventually but for now they'll do. . It's a nice unit, download the user manual and familiarize yourself with it. It's pretty straight forward to operate. .I was even able to adjust the display color to fit the dash display. . Nice..

Pros: Ipod, and auxiliary connections, great FM reception, looks good and sounds even better.. Easy to install, just familiarize yourself with the instructions.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is the 4th Kenwood product I've purchased for Car Audio over the years and not a single complaint to be had about the quality, ease of installation (Crutchfield made it easy with their installation tips and package deal). The only point I would like to make is that the 300U is NOT compatible with any of the services they advertise, such as Pandora, UNLESS you have a iPhone. They state it's Android compatible.. yep it has an mini-stereo plug input for your headphone input and it will charge your Android with the USB... but that's it! You have to use both cables and the radio will not pair with your Android Phone. Just a small surprise I got after purchasing and installing. When Kenwood Customer Service was contacted to inquire why it didn't pair with my Android - they suggested I upgrade to the 500U... nice huh? Other than that - no complaints - a great replacement for the OEM GM Stereo that went kaput on me after 8 years.

Pros: Easy Install, Good Quality, Outstanding Sound Output

Cons: Is NOT Android Compatible. Do not expect to plug your Android in with the USB and have compatibility with Pandora or even the Kenwood Mobile App they ask you to download... it is ONLY compatible with iPhone

Needed a Double DIN CD player to replace my aging 2000 Toyota Avalon stereo who's CD player no longer played most CDs. I didn't want to spend a lot of money but my one must-have was a preamp sub output and this head unit was the one I choose. Love the fact that Crutchfield included the Metra Wiring Harness and Metra In-dash Receiver kit for free. Plus no tax and free shipping! I told myself I wouldn't regret it but now I regret I didn't spend $40 more to get the Kenwood DPX500U that has built-in Bluetooth. Oh well. I'm still very happy.

Pros: Large easy to read display and a multitude of display colors. Great sound using only the DPX300U to power my 4 door speakers with a Kenwood Amp powering a Sub in the rear.

Cons: No built in Bluetooth. Wish now I spent the extra $40 to get the DPX500U unit which has it. Nowhere in the Kenwood instructions/manual what some of the settings terminology means like - "Throughput" although I finally found it here on Crutchfield's Product Research.

This replaced a factory Pioneer head unit made for Ford that had random issues with CDs. I am a long-time Sony and Clarion/Alpine fan, and was considering those brands for the double-DIN application. The Kenwood unit exceeded the competition in nearly every way and was among the lowest cost. Despite the great value, this unit delivers on every expectation. Unit is easy to use, has far greater headroom than the factory head unit, and has a mile long list of features. Multi-color programmable backlit display is clear and crisp. USB interface is thus far flawless. I am now a Kenwood fan as a result. This head unit will not disappoint.

Finished product looks very good. Controls are hard to use, instructions are very basic and not inclusive. There is an owner's manual available on the Kenwood website, exept I couldn't get it to load either for viewing or for download. Ended up calling the factory for help on a few things. Was told no manual available as yet for mailing.

Pros: Great sounds for the $$$. Good looking unit.

I actually ended up returning this to Crutchfield and going back to my factory receiver. It sounded really great, and had a lot of great features, but the controls and menu system were not intuitive at all. My factory receiver was much easier to use, especially during driving (which is very important). Also, the display is only one line even though there is a lot of real estate on a double DIN receiver. My factory unit actually was easier to read because the display is back lit and uses two lines of text instead of Kenwood's one. The Kenwood reciever also has very small buttons which are difficult to push while driving, my factory receiver uses nice large ones that I don't have to think about when I am driving. Overall I am pretty disappointed in this Kenwood receiver. They put styling before function.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I received the dpx300u from Crutchfield in only a couple of days after placing the order. It came with all of the necessary hardware and wiring for installation, as well as a set of instructions. It took about three hours to install, with one hitch. I wasted an hour trying to remove the four bolts that were specified on the instruction sheet only to find out that it was incorrect and only two bolts had to be remove in order to drop the steering wheel. Aside from that, the remainder of the instructions were strait foreward and complete. The dpx300 fit very nicely in the space available and looked like it belonged there. It worked the first time. The sound quality was much better and clearer than the factory unit. It is worth the time to download the manual from the web site, and takes some study in order to get familiar with the settings and operation. One drawback to this radio is that the display is difficult to read in bright sunlight, and impossible to read with sunglasses on. Color adjustment of the display will help, but does not fix the problem. Overall I am quite happy with the dpx300u.

Pros: Great sound, even with the factory door speakers

Cons: Difficult to see the display in bright light conditions.

    Great stereo. AMAZING Customer Service!

tim from Ottawa, ON, Canada on 8/28/2013

First, and have amazing customer service! I think it is some of the best customer service I've ever received. I installed the Kenwood DPX300U deck in a 2006 Nissan Xterra Offroad with a stock Rockford Fosgate stereo. I'm not sure if it's a design difference with the Canadian version of the Xterra but there is a duct behind the radio. This duct prevented installation of the DPX300U using the Metra wiring harness Crutchfield sent with the deck. The RCA jacks on the Metra harness that plug into the deck were pushing up against this duct and I wasn't able to get the factory mounting brackets flush with the dash. As a result, I had to make a few calls to Crutchfield to get help. First they immediately sent out a Schosche OEM Amplifier adapter and I got it a few days later in the mail. Installation was pretty straightforward but I did need to rely quite a bit on the tech support staff. I've never installed a car stereo before and add to that I'm colour blind made it even more challenging. The Crutchfield staff is a very knowledgeable, friendly and patient group of people. They were a huge help and easily available. As for the DPX300U, it's a pretty nice deck. The iPod adapter available with the Kenwood was the main reasons I replaced the factory stereo. The price was very affordable and with the Schosche amp adapter it produces pretty nice sound from the OEM speakers. The Schosche requires a few extra minutes to calibrate but it's pretty easy to do

Pros: Nice deck. Very good sound quality and seems considerably better than the factory stereo. Lots of ability to fine tune the sound quality.

Cons: None in terms of the stereo. The Kenwood manual that is included is pretty useless for anything other than understanding basic functions of the stereo. You'll need to go to the Kenwood website to get the more detailed manual for setting up the deck.

I installed this receiver in my 2003 F250. Took about 3 hours because this was my first time so I took it slow. Tech support was awesome. Only had to call once to get all my questions answered. I did have to modify the dash to make the receiver fit, but I knew that from the start because Crutchfield was clear about that when I ordered. I also found that the tools they suggest for the install is all I needed. That is a rear thing. I like that I got everything I needed from one place and they do the homework to do the install for me. "Coolness Factor" should be 6 stars. Great receiver. Great service. Thanks Crutchfield.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Arrived on time and properly packaged. The recommended harness and attached wiring sheets worked perfectly, took my untrained hands about 2 hours to get everything connected properly. Install took an additional 2 hours (again, first timer), and went fairly smoothly. I only had to make a small modification to the bracket to allow some A/C wires to fit properly on my 2004 Pontiac Vibe. Glad I went with the double DIN, the display is easy to read and all buttons are easily accessed with minimal distraction. Display can be a little hard to read in the daytime, but I also chose a low-brightness blue color, since I drive a lot at night. iPod controls work really well, can't wait to hide some wires and just leave it plugged in and hidden all the time. I do wish there was a rear USB port, but I'm sure most people prefer the front. Sound quality is marginally better, but I think that's more an indication of the rest of my system. This unit does offer a lot of EQ options, and I can't wait to really start tinkering when I get new speakers and an amp. Great step one to my whole system!

Pros: Cost, variable display, intuitive iPod controls, plenty of EQ options

Cons: (All minor) No rear USB for wiring hiding, lacking display brightness, beeps for too many functions.

I purchased this double din receiver to replace the factory unit in my Olds Alero in order to have a receiver with a USB input.

Pros: Good looking appearance in a double din application.

Cons: The worst issue with this receiver is the illumination of the display. During the day, under normal daytime driving conditions, you can not see the display. It's almost as though the display was turned off. These second issue is the quality of the audio. I was dismayed to discover that the unit actually sounds worse than the receiver installed at the factory. I returned this received particularly because of the illumination problem which made the receiver unusable.

I was able set the display to match my interior lights, so it looks like it could have been a factory unit. I have no really big complaints other than the functions, and EQ's...There are SO MANY, which is a great problem to have but I'm no audiophile and trying to dial in great sound, which I know its more than capable of doing is really, really daunting.

Pros: Great price, looks good, easy install.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I've only had this unit in for about a week, but so far am very happy with it. Installation was very easy. I soldered the supplied wiring harness adapter in about 30 mins. And installation in the car itself took a little over an hour, including 'help' from a two year old and five year old. A lot of people talk about the ever-changing display colors. This is not permanent and is easy* to set to a specific constant color value. *Easy once you go online and find the appropriate page of the online manual, that is. My biggest complaint thus far is the combination of navigating through settings using only the center knob. Some of the settings menus are many-layers deep and it seems that with a number of buttons at your disposal, navigation could be simplified. Second complaint is the lack of paper manual. If nothing else, there should be documentation included on how to set the display colors. And yes, viewing the display in bright light can be quite difficult. But these Cons aside, I'm very happy with the purchase and look forward to years of use.

Pros: Seamless integration with iPhone/iPod. Both USB and 3.5mm audio plugs on front face. Easy installation.

Cons: As others have said, display can be hard to see. Default looping colors on display. Lack of included user manual. Additionally, no PDF version, just a downloadable html version.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I've always had great luck with Kenwood and this stereo keeps it going. I'm not a fan of touch screen stereos so the buttons are a plus, the build quality is good, and the sound is great through my factory speakers. There is plenty of control over the treble, mid and bass and it sounds great even without the factory sub. My only 2 issues are even with the supplied accessories I still had the subwoofer thump when it is powered on. I skipped the sub but it still sounds great without it. My other issue is the constantly rotating color scheme. The darker colors are not bright enough to see in the sunlight of the day. If one of the colors could be set as default it would be a perfect unit. Even though the dimmer is not user adjustable, it's not bright enough to be annoying or dangerous. Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I am very pleased with my purchase. I am able to play my ipod in the care which before I had to use the tape player adapter. I am happy I can do this with ease. I like that my title of my music selection can be seen on the radio. I like that I can use the radio to change a song rather then messing with the ipod. I like that I can use an Aux cord or the USB cord then my ipod can charge while I'm using. I wish that it would have come with some kind of bracket to put the ipod in. I don't like the buttons for the radio. For some reason the placement along the side are confusing for me and because I have wires coming from my ipod down to the radio the buttons are in the wrong place for me. I would have preferred the buttons along the bottom as opposed to the sides. I love all the different colors that the screen lights up although that isn't why I bought it. Sometimes I have difficulty seeing the screen because of the sun.. but at night it is perfectly clear. My husband was able to hook up the radio/receiver relatively quickly so that wasn't an issue. I love the sound quality no complaints there. It was shipped to me very quickly as well. Also when I picked it out the fellow that was helping me via chat was very helpful.. I would tell him what exactly I was looking for and he was easily able to direct me to different products. He was very helpful and very knowledgeable. Customer service gets an A++. This is the 2nd radio/receiver I have purchased and I will again

Pros: Good Sound, Very Attractive, I like the ipod choices of Auxillary and USB attachment..although I wish that an auxillary wire would have been sent along. I like that you can have 9 FM channels programmed in automatically. I like the colors of the display. I think it changes colors like five times: red, pink, purple, green and blue..It is relatively easy to operate. It was relatively easy to hook up, my husband wasn't upset after putting it in.. It has a remote but I don't use it. Nice price.

Cons: I wish the buttons for changing stations were along the bottom. I have my USB and auxillary wire coming down from my ipod and it is along the side where the radio buttons are. wish they were at the bottom. I wish it would have come with an aux wire for the ipod. I also wish it would have come with an attachment for the ipod. ..during the day the display is difficult to read. The manual could have had a little more detail of how to operate things. Remote useless not safe to use while driving

Nice radio with good features. Install was pretty straight forward with the adapters that was purchased for the install. Installed it in a GM vehicle with steering wheel controls and Bose system, sound was as good if not better then the factory. Only complaint was that I had to Google to find out how to lock the vari-color to one color. There was not a manual to show how to do all of the custom features that the radio offers. But still a nice radio with good features. Would buy another!

Radio has a ton of good features, and works great with my iPhone, Pandora, and IheardRadio. The screen is very hard to read in bright sunlight, and the navigation with the buttons on the radio (menus, options, etc.) is not intuitive. After a week I was used to it, and now my wife drives my car just to use the radio. :-)

2005 Blazer. I wanted an inexpensive CD, USB (Ipod) and RDS capable device to replace the faulty OEM radio. I wanted larger buttons similar to the OEM radio. This fir the bill Ordered on a Friday, delivered on a Monday. Also purchased speakers and the required GM onstar adapter. Issue with extra wires on the onstar adapter - called the mfr, on hold 15 mins. hung up, called crutchfield support answered on 1st ring, answered the question in less than 1 minute. 5 starts for Crutchfield support. No issues with fit/finish. Install is straightforward. Audio quality/clarity is good with the OEM speakers. (Have not yet installed the kenwood speakers I got with this system) Other reviewers have said the bass is weak - I don't think so. No, it will not rattle the windows, but it will vibrate the seats. for that, it does have additional output ports to feed an external amp.

Pros: Fits without adapters. audio clarity is good. Ipod classic works through both the usb and aux jacks. usb port charges your device. does not require separate amp. Larger buttons - east to find/adjust by feel.

Cons: setup manual is skimpy - had to goto the web to figure out how to make some functions work. Some functions are not intuitive - for example you don't (re)set the clock from the Clock settings screen. Still haven't figured out how to make it display CD track names.

Knocking a star off because had we known how bad the Kenwood Android App was we would not have purchased this model. The radio is great be we were specifically bought this model because it said it could use the App.

really lit up the very reasonably priced MTX TN653 speakers that I installed first. So much better than the stock unit and I suspect many other units due to the 22-23 watts per channel of RMS power. Very clean sound. Lots of adjustments for setting color, bass boost, and subwoofer cut offs and frequency. I bought a scratch and dent from Crutchfield, no scratches/no dents, just a returned item. Only issue is mine came only with the quick start guide, not the full manual, which I had to access on line. Unit looks better than factory, especially with the various display colors and brightness that you can adjust. FM reception much better than factory, just sitting on my driveway which is a tough reception area.

Pros: very clean 22-23 watts RMS power which made the moderate priced speakers sing, lots of subwoofer customizations that you can tweak,

Cons: no bluetooth on this model. If I needed that, I would chose the 500BT unit .

Switched over to this receiver after my previous unit died. I love that it has a button dedicated to EQ and sub adjustments, none of that "hold down for 3 seconds" nonsense. Looks clean and has a lot of color options if that is your thing. I play my music off USB flash drives, and this receiver automatically sorts the files alphabetically so you can locate your tracks easier. The remote is also very user friendly and has a long range. I was able to adjust the volume control from outside the car when setting my sub amp gains. Great product at a fair price.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this unit a few weeks ago as I was in the middle of overhauling the factory system in my Honda CR-V. I just wanted a good basic unit that would allow me to run separate components and a sub. It can be tough to find a head unit with the 3 preouts needed and not spend alot of money. This Kenwood gave me everything I was looking for(F,R,S, low FM sensitivity,Double Din, Variable Display Colors) and now is the heart of my system. Navigating through all of the features with this unit is easy and really gives you the control to set up your system for your listening taste. Over the years I've purchased Kenwood products and the quality and durability of their equipment has been exceptional, this unit is no different. I have this receiver hooked up to two Rockford Fosgate amps and my system sounds awesome. If your looking for a quality head unit that will allow you to jam, i would recommend this unit to anyone. On another note, if this is your first time using Crutchfield to purchase your equipment, don't hesitate to use them. Over the past 20 years, I have used their services and and have been completely satisfied with the service they provide.

Pros: It is everything I was looking for!

Cons: Kenwood didn't supply a operations manual with the unit, what's up with that? Gotta go to the internet for that.

Easy to install, wiring harness a necessity and made the job very easy. Could not use the orange/white lighting wiring, it made the lighting on he radio flash. Other than that, it's a great unit and made my factory speakers sound great. One other complaint is having to go to he web to find a printable manual for he unit. It is available on the Kenwood site, and definitely necessary to get into all he settings details you'll want to make.

Pros: Great sound, easy installation, like the 24 different colors available on the display

Cons: Overly complicated menu system for detailed adjustments. Also found that the face plate is a huge dust magnet. I'm trying an anti-stat spray on it to see if it helps.

System looks good in 2012 Xterra. The sound tuning capability goes a long way in improving the stock speakers (next project). iPod and Pandora integration works very well. Display is not as bright as I would like but good enough and quite customizable. I wanted a double DIN so it would be easier to operate the radio while driving. I had the same freezing problem as another reviewer but I called Crutchfield and they promptly emailed me a link for a firmware update that should fix it, and the update was easy to apply using a flash drive and the USB port.

Pros: Looks god in vehicle, lot of sound tuning options, large size makes it easy to operate without taking eyes off road, easy to update firmware, iPod functionality works well, 24 choices of display color

Cons: Display could be a tad brighter so it would be easier to see in sunlight.

Mike C from Mishawaka, IN on 4/8/2013

Installed this in my Ford Explorer 03' . Looks great, sounds great. Some of the colors are hard to see in the sunlight but you have a wide choice to use. I like the multi-color fade at night. Came with all the needed hook-ups and adapters. Crutchfield is the BEST. Had a question about hooking up my one factory sub with the 2 sub outputs on the unit and the got back to me in less than 24 hours. The instructions that came with the unit and speakers I bought were clear and easy to follow.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I am a 26 year old female with no technical expertise, BUT, I installed this unit by myself. I also had to swap out the molding in my car, which was fairly simple with the instructions Crutchfield sent. I am thrilled with this unit and even more thrilled that I didn't have to pay someone else to install it for me. The colors are awesome, the iPod/iPhone connector is a must, and it amplifies the sound quality in my car tenfold. I would definitely recommend this unit!

Pros: color changing display, iPod connector, Pandora ready, simple install, AWESOME sound quality

I have an iPhone and it works with mine. You can play all your music on your iPhone. [ ANTONIO  Feb 16, 2014 ]
No. The phone needs to be able to be recognized as USB .mass storage device. The new android operating systems don't do that anymore. I don't have the radio anymore but was never able to pair with my nexus 4. I ended up buying a sandisk cruzer fit and it worked great. [ DANIEL  Feb 16, 2014 ]

Yes it has FM/AM radio. Pandora will play through off of an Iphone and Sirius will work through it if you have the receiver for it. [ DANNY  Feb 02, 2014 ]
You can! You can configure your USB drive on your computer to have whatever folders you want. Then all you have to do is navigate to them with the hourglass button on the deck to find your songs. Pretty simple to use. [ BRAD  Jan 01, 2014 ]
    Yes [ LONNIE  Jan 01, 2014 ]
I don't really know. The radio quit working about two weeks ago and my husband checked the fuses and they all checked out but he can't check into it further because he had a knee replacement. I know my IPOD works with it. Sorry I couldn't answer your question. [ DONNA I  Dec 31, 2013 ]
Yes, you can play music direct from a flash drive on this unit. [ LARRY  Dec 31, 2013 ]
Yes! I listen to music from my flash drive all the time! Works great!!! [ BETHANY  Dec 31, 2013 ]
Yes you can. I just loaded some songs to test it. It started playing as soon as I plugged it in. Sounds great and even had the song titles on the display. Also works great with my I-phone/I-pod. Google nav app lowers the stereo volume and goes throught the speakers as well. My wife and I both have this unit in our vehicles and love it. [ JOSEPH  Dec 31, 2013 ]
Yes. This is one of the things that I really like about this unit. I just copy files from my computer to a flash drive. I copy entire albums. The display shows all the song info which is also pretty nice. [ JASON R  Dec 31, 2013 ]
