I have had several Kenwood products and been happy with the sound quality. One big disappointment with this unit was the first time I wanted to load a CD the CD door broke off!

Pros: Easy to install, great upgrade from old factory unit.

    Cons: CD door broke off.

Like others say, its difficult to see lighted display in daytime. Impossible with sunglasses on. If you use reading glasses the clock display takes a moment too long to come into focus because it is too small. Too much time looking away from the road. Same with the pre set buttons. They are just too small for my normal size fingers and the back light not bright enough to see for a quick selection. The band selection button is located too close to the volume dial so when pressing it I sometimes move volume. One more thing I am not happy with is something I never thought to check. My factory radio has a feature that lowers the volume upon turning off until. So I could shut it down at high volume then when i start car back up, the sound is at a low volume. With this unit the sound when turned off is the same when turning on. Not a major problem after getting used to dialing it down before shutting down. The CD door would be better if it swung in. instead you need to open it from a small tab on right side. Same with USB door. It has a small tab to pull open to access. So considering most units in this price range probably have similar functions and sound quality.. I would pay attention to design for my next selection.

    Pros: Looks cool

Cons: Bad display design. Backlight useless in sunlight. Pre set buttons way too small.

Coming from an factory radio that id kept since 2002 this was seriously an upgrade. It's easy to go from one app to the next. Tuning is simple and the fact that it get siriusxm is an added bonus. There is so much variety! I can listen to my iphone, USB, pandora, iheartradio, and siriusxm. Hands down there is no way you'll be bored with this radio at all! Definitely recommend. Oh and the detachable face is certainly some peace of mind.

Pros: Easy access to all apps. Detachablr face. Tons of ways to listen to music.

Cons: Had to buy a case for my detachablr face.

Good quality unit. Impressed with the sound quality and easy to use controls. Little bit of a challenge to install, but I think that was just me and my Pontiac. Enjoying most features of it and trying to work out if USB will work with newer Android devices. So far having trouble with Samsung Galaxy S5. Other than that, I'm loving it.

Pros: Sound quality is great. Look and feel of the device is great.

Cons: Antenna cable did not match the prior unit. Crossing my fingers the cable doesn't fall out halfway down the road. So far so good.

Definitely excellent affordability. Easy to install, and looks like its more expensive than it is if you worry about that. My biggest issues are mechanical, sometimes buttons stick or the remote feature doesn't work very well. Other than that, the sound quality is amazing, and the bass is surprisingly good considering that I don't even have subs.

    Pros: Price, sound quality, looks

Cons: remote feature doesn't work well, buttons stick sometimes

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this to put in my son's 03 Mustang GT after the factory radio ate his CDs. It was a easy install with the included gear from Crutchfield. Total time for the install including wiring the adaptor was 30 min. My son is very happy with the radio and the sound. Makes the factory Mach speakers sound better. The reason for the one star reduction is some times the radio will change the bass settings to +6 upon start up making the bass to pronounced. It does not happen all the time and I am not the person using the stereo so it maybe user error. Over all a great stereo. If I could I would have given it 4.5 stars

    Pros: Great sound and price

    Cons: Settings sometimes change.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I'm sorry to say that after inserting about 4 or 5 CD's that the unit failed. After calling customer service for advice , and re-setting the unit, the need for deck replacement became necessary. The customer service was great and another unit from another manufacturer was issued without delay. I was definitely afraid of re-installing the same Kenwood unit in case the same thing happened again. I will have to absorb the cost of re-instillation which I'm not too happy about but I understand that these things happen. I would like to say thanks to Crutchfield for outstanding customer support! Everyone was just great, easy to get through to and easy to talk to, and even though I've had initial trouble I would not go anywhere else. Customer service after the sale is just as important as the sale! The attention to my concerns made me a satisfied customer and will speak well of the company. I will definitely do business with Crutchfield in the future!

    Pros: Cool looking

Cons: Broke after 4 or 5 CD's. I am very careful and go easy on these things. Luck of the draw I guess.

Overall a nice radio. Controls are quirky between sources. Sirius radio adapter works well but no easy way to change stations without going through direct # via remote or genre.

Pros: Nice clean appearance. Crutchfield did great on the wire harnesses. Lots of presets and different sources. Good radio with good options for a good price.

Cons: Volume varies between sources, USB would be better on the back, Sirius control needs easier use. Have to tape all the wires to the vehicle harness Crutchfield provided (easy but tedious)

This stereo made our 2005 Dodge Ram soung great!!! Was my first stereo install and it went great. This stereo takes a bit to figure out, but after reading the manual and playing with it for a while, it's not an issue. My wife and kid really like the multitude of color choices too!! Hooked up SiriusXM Tuner into this and worked great. XM Soungs so much better than FM modulator hook up.

Pros: Easy install, great sound, different colors, and SiriusXM ready!!

Cons: Confusing to control at first, but just unfamiliar with it.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I replaced the OEM tuner in my '89 Bronco and have been very pleased. The updated instructions that were emailed to me were very descriptive. When I had a issue and called tech support they answered my question before I could finish explaining everything. Turns out that when you call all of your car and tuner make and model info pops up on their screen based on your phone number! Why can't every tech support be that efficient? The wiring was straightforward and the install was simple. Everything is covered in the tech sheets emailed with your receipt. The unit is exactly what I wanted. Enough bells and whistles without breaking my wallet. This is going to be my ski trip vehicle and will see extensive travel this winter all over the country so I wanted something that could play my iPod (USB) when I am out of range of stations or use the iPhone (AUX) to put my navigation app through the speakers during unfamiliar roads. Plus the USB charges your device. I also love that it comes with a remote. Anyone with a full size Bronco knows how far away the radio controls are from the drivers seat. No more leaning over just to change the station. I am so pleased that I am going to update the speakers this week. Can't wait for the snow to fly!

Pros: *Detailed Instructions *Straightforward Install *Great Tech Support

    My first after market tuner

JCon from Kansas City on 7/12/2014

    2005 Hyundai Sonata
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This was my first after-market tuner installation in one of our cars. I installed this product in a 2005 Hyundai Sonata to replace the OEM CD/Cassette/Radio that would no longer eject or operate the cassette input adapter I was using and was also getting a bit blinky on the CD operation. Installation with the instructions from Crutchfield was very straightforward though I did need to get some guidance on the wiring for the replacement universal antenna. (The motorized OEM antenna has also gone belly up.) Back to the tuner... I'm very pleased with the performance overall. It does tend to sound a bit bassy and I'm not crazy about the way you change the source from tuner to CD to USB to Aux (which amounts to repeatedly clicking the source button to get to the one you want - but with a delay in response). Even so, I'm thrilled to have the option to connect the iPhone via USB for playing and charging. It does a nice job controlling Pandora and you can program specific Pandora channels to the presets. These work quite well. I haven't had occasion to use the Aux input yet. The device has a removable faceplate as a security feature. I have a little trouble with this because the dashboard trim kit that I got with this unit fits it very snugly and the faceplate catches on it. I just have to fiddle with it each time I remove it and "pry" it out. That's not the radio's fault but a feature of this installation. I had to replace the outer trim ring with the one from trim kit.

Pros: Good overall sound. Great price point for all the features Nice set of features including USB/Aux/Pandora and iHeart radio support

Cons: There's a glare on the display that makes it a bit hard to see in the daytime with the rotating color display option. You need a co-pilot to operate the controls if you are doing more than playing/pausing/advancing. Single button toggling through sources is annoying.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Kenwood KDC-358U was just what I was looking for. Wanted a SiriusXM ready head with iPod and USB inputs. Installation was super simple and the sound is awesome. Crutchfield instructions were spot on. Technical support in helping me pick the right unit and gear was superb. I'm running this with a Rockford Fosgate R250X4 Prime 4-Channel Amplifier through Alpine Sps-610c 6.5" combos in front doors, Alpine Sps-610 6.5" in back doors and BOSS Audio R1100M Riot 1100-watt Monoblock through Kicker 10C104 Comp 10-Inch Subwoofer. Very happy with the overall system. It is in a 2002 Chevy Suburban.

Pros: All the features I wanted for a very good price. Nice look and display. Sound is very good.

Cons: Only con is that the clock display is a little small - hard to see. Other reviews complained about the UI, but I thought it was pretty straightforward.

Still getting to learn how to use all the cool features,. but sound quality is superb, radio & CD player, even thru OEM speakers. I was able to adjust loudness, bass mid & treble to suit the speakers I have. Plenty of power! I setup the FREE mounting bracket, FREE plug, and FREE antenna extension at the kitchen table, and then took it out to the driveway to install...I had this radio installed & playing in EIGHT MINUTES! NO JOKE! Installation was clearly spelled out for me by Crutchfield,, they supplied all needed parts, FREE! Excellent sound, easy install, good price point-Can't beat that!! (Pontiac Tran Sport Van)

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Install easy on 2009 rav4, only 1 hiccup. When i attached everything I found I had no AM reception. If this happens to you, here is my fix, I attached blue wire on Toyota wire kit to the blue/white on Kenwood wiring harness. It doesn't explain it well in the description that this should be done, but after i did it, reception improved for FM and AM came in crystal clear, I think it has something to do with the antenna needing power.

Pros: Sound improved dramatically, even with stock speakers still attached.

This is a nice simple deck that has lots of options. The styling is very understated which matches the interior of my Nissan Frontier. Love the USB Features for the ipod. I use it for spotify (even though it has build in controls for pandora and iheart radio). This is my first radio with a remote (which I thought I would never use) but found it extremely useful to help keep your eyes on the road. I would recommend it.

Pros: Lots of versatility for a small price.

Cons: Digging through the menu and controls take a little while to get used to. The display even on the brightest setting is almost impossible to ready. Clock display is too small.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Overall I really like this radio. I can use my ipod, which was my main goal. The sound is quite good. My only problem is the display. There are about a hundred color choices and none of them is just plain white like all the other radios I've ever had. I chose the lightest color I could, but it still isn't very bright which makes it hard to see during the day. I called Crutchfield and they helped me brighten it up as much as possible, but it's still dim. And the clock is tiny. And it's not particularly user friendly so I keep my manual handy. Besides the display, though, I can't really complain. Works well, sounds good, affordable. I'm happy with it.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Fitting this into a 2003 Audi TT w/Bose proved difficult. The pre-amp outputs on the Kenwood KDC-358U are on the right rear for this stereo. They feed the factory Bose amps. I needed to add 90deg RCA plugs to clear an obstruction inside the dash on the right. If I had pulled out the factory stereo before choosing a head unit I would have looked for one with the pre-amp outs on the left or center. There is little room inside the dash for stuffing the ground loop isolators , antenna adapter and the wiring harness. The Kenwood KDC-358U does work with the Audi TT stereo cover. There is room to close the door if there is nothing plugged into the front panel aux inputs.

Pros: Good value. Easy to navigate controls.

Cons: Display could be brighter. I would not recommend this for a convertible.

Great stereo with excellent sound and easy to use. I like that it has the pandora mode. The one thing I can say that doesn't work so well is the pandora and iPod mode. When the USB is hooked up, it seems like something inside the unit disconnects very often and the music stops then comes back on and so forth. When I hit small bumps on the road it disconnects.

Cons: Pandora and iPod mode doesn't work so well.

This product is a great value for the money. I installed this unit with the Kenwood Excellon KFC-683 speakers. It definitely gave the speakers the drive that they needed and improved the clarity. The radio is much clearer than the factory unit, and some stations come in perfectly clear that were just fuzz on the old unit. I'm having trouble getting the USB port to read my MP3... but it is a non-issue given the aux cable. The only down side is the face is extremely hard to read in sunlight.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

It's been awhile since I have needed to purchase an after market radio and I was hesitant but I went with a brand I trusted and I must say I am impressed. I have a '09 Wrangler with the Infinity system and for a stock radio it was pretty decent. Well after installing the Kenwood I probably should change my opinion on the stock one as the Kenwood delivers quality sounds and packs plenty of power. I certainly upgraded my system and for the price I am beyond satisfied.

Pros: Great Sound and plenty of audio set up options. Remote

Cons: Having many color option is nice, but many of them are difficult to see during the day/sunlight. The clock is really small, but I admit I didn't buy the radio for the clock. On the Sirius source, I wish there was a scroll to get the artist and title at once, not one or the other.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was looking for a receiver with a CD player since my stock CD player died. I wasn't looking to spend a fortune but wanted a receiver that had auxiliary/USB input and was SiriusXM capable. This receiver fit the bill perfectly and was easy to install. This was the first time I have ever installed a receiver in a vehicle and it went without a hitch. Sound quality is good (I am still using the stock speakers but the unit would probably sound MUCH better with better speakers) and the coolness factor is great. Still getting used to the controls and how to get around but that is to be expected since the stock radio it replaced was a very basic CD/radio.

Pros: Easy to install, sounds very good, has a lot of features for the money

    Cons: None so far.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was recommended this unit, by Crutchfield. It has all the features I needed, USB,EQ CD, and RCA outputs. The unit, if can believe, is very confusing to use. There is no on/off button, only stand by/mode. To adjust settings like bass, clock or display color, you must work your way through a maze of button pushes and dial turning. To get out of settings mode, you have to back space, multiple times back to radio, rather than it. just doing it ,automatic. The unit has locked up on me twice, where it will not respond to anything. I had to remove the faceplate, and re-insert to get to function. By doing this all my settings were lost and had to be redone, step by step. The display, in bright sun, is almost unreadable. Finally, the sound: weak, lacking high end and not impressive in any mode, EQ or manual.

Pros: Comes with an impressive number of features, for the price!

Cons: Awful design and hard to adjust anything, without pulling over. Settings lost when faceplate removed. No on/off button! Display not bright enough to read in bright daylight. Poor sound quality for Kenwood. Might be better with some amps added. I would return it , if it was not in my car, installed, looking perfect.

A great stereo for the price. The audio controls and features allow for great customizing, and are very user friendly. The USB and AUX ports work great, and USB displays track info on the display. If I have to find something I didn't like, the clock is way too small. This unit has a dual line display, with the option to select what displays on each line, but no way to display the clock on the upper and larger of the 2 lines. The multiple display color selection as a nice feature to match your existing vehicle lighting. Installation kit was a big help, and the factory side mounting brackets lined up to this unit perfect.

Only issue that I truly have is I've been unable to get it to work with my smartphone, an LG G2. Factory premium head unit in my car was broken, so I went with this because it has 22 watts RMS power per speaker, USB input, and a somewhat cleaner look with the hide-away door to cover the CD entrance. The 3-band adjustable EQ works nicely as well as other audio tweaks. The "sound reconstruction" feature actually is useful for mp3 playback and improves sound quality. 3 pairs of pre-outs are nice. Low and high-pass filters for doors and subs blend nicely together. And most importantly, the sound quality is superb. Also, it doesn't say that it has a HD tuner, but mine displays all station and song program names in real time. With free harnesses, tools, and shipping, this was a home run for my tastes.

Pros: Great sound quality, excellent RMS power, great tuner, adjustable colors, easy to use, sleek look would probably match look for most vehicles

Cons: Instruction manual is missing info on some hidden features, but once you figure out access to them the unit is excellent.

After installation, the first thing that I noticed (aside from the surprisingly long boot time) was that the sound quality is a bit better than my old Sony unit. I could choose the size of my speakers to better tune for my car, and I could disable things like Pandora and iHeartRadio since I will never use them. I was disappointed to discover, however, that the display is not customizeable. You can choose between 32 (I believe) colors or an obnoxious light show of all of them, but not much else. The highest brightness setting is very dim. The super glossy screen means that any ambient light is reflected. This makes visibility really bad, but that's not the worst part. The second line of the screen is reserved for the clock on inputs without track info. This cannot be changed. This means that, when listening to my phone, the top screen reads "AUX" and the small screen shows something completely imperceptible that includes the full date and time. It is frustrating enough that, if it weren't broken, I would have put my old unit back in and sold this one.

Pros: Many color options, sound quality, included features

Cons: Very poor visibility, slow boot time

After reviewing many different products on Crutchfield I decided to purchase this unit (Kenwood KDC-358U). I bought it to replace the factory stereo unit in my 1998 Honda Accord. Great little stereo for the money, nice features.

Pros: Easy to install - Use of iPhone functions are easy - Thumb drive is a great feature - Love the ability to change the display color to match gauges - So many features for a Kenwood stereo under a $100

Cons: Might be the angle of my factory stereo location but hard to see display on sunny days even with settings at max and the clock display is a little small.

Had a few issues, but tech support was great and walked me right through it. For the money, this stereo rocks!

Pros: great sound! Lots of features!

Bought this to replace the factory unit in my 2006 RAV4. Good upgrade from the factory unit, playback from MP3s and USB source are greatly enhanced by the expansion software feature. Sounds very good with the front factory speakers. I replaced the rears with Kenwood 6.5" and it sounds much better. The mounting kit was great, very easy to install.

Pros: Displays radio song info, USB works well, plays all my old MP3 CDs

Cons: Some display colors are hard to see in bright light, wish there were more color options.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I needed to replace a defective Alpine SiriusXM receiver in my '06 Tacoma and the Kenwood fit the bill perfectly. I also gained the benefits of a USB input for my iPod and Pandora Radio, which did not exist in the Alpine. I'm most impressed with the sound quality as I am not using an amp or sub but the punch and clarity from my Tacoma ('06) speakers is perfect. Installation was a breeze with Crutchfield's outstanding documentation and I was also able to re-use my existing enclosure and did not even open the kit that was shipped with the radio. In order to use my existing old style FAKRA connector that was on my XM antenna (and thus avoid having to pull trim to re-run the new antenna that was supplied with the XM kit), I had to buy an adapter to fit the new module but it was inexpensive and a cinch to install.

Pros: Great sound quality, more XM pre-store bands than you'll ever need (20 channels), nice looking low profile and installed easily into my existing trim kit.

Cons: Display lighting is hard to see in bright daylight (although the radio offers you several color choices) and using the options control (sound settings etc.) is not conducive to other than pulling out of traffic.

I bought this model because it was Sirius/XM compatible (replaced an existing Kenwood deck) - very easy to install and was up and running in less than an hour.

Pros: Easy to install especially if you had an existing Kenwood deck Economically priced Good sound with upgraded speakers

Cons: Clock display is too small Only has one line of text display - an option to see both the Artist and Song would be good The Sirius/XM Replay option can be confusing and cumbersome - nice feature but you should be able to exit by pressing any Preset #1-6 instead of the Seek Down button

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Very good Unit for the price. It is easy to adjust the settings (colors, clock, sound). It is much more powerful than the stock unit in my 95 Mitsubishi Eclipse. Plenty of outputs (good if you have a factory amp and want to hook up a sub). It was a little too wide to fit inside the factory bezel so I had to modify slightly, despite Crutchfield stating that it fit without modifications. I also had to alter the mounting unit they sent for ease of installation. I have installed many headunits and this one has been biggest hassle. It looks good now and I am happy with the deck's overall performance . The only con would be that it is hard to see in the daytime.

Pros: price, customizable, ease of use, clarity

Cons: hard to see display in the daytime

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I installed this Kenwood KDC-358U head unit to replace the factory MINI Harman Kardon sound system in my 2005 MINI Cooper S Convertible. The HK amp failed, so I decided to take on a complete upgrade, and despite having to run completely new speaker wires to each speaker, I was able to do it, thanks to Crutchfield's tech support personnel and a Chilton's-like service manual. I also mated this receiver to the Clarion XC1410 amp and Kicker speakers. The result is much more punch and way better sound quality. I also now have the ability to hook up my iPod, and my phone, thanks to the USB input. I also opted for the Sirius XM tuner. This unit does not have Bluetooth, but I did not see the need to have that, because who talks on the phone in a convertible with the top down? Not me! Besides, for the audio, I can use the USB input, but I will mostly listen to SiriusXM or my iPod. It also supports Pandora and iHeart Radio via USB connection. I would definitely recommend this head unit to anyone who is looking for good sound, good features, and does not necessarily require Bluetooth.

Pros: Great sound, easy menu and setup, great features via front USB and Aux inputs. Looks good in the dash if you are looking for a clean-look.

Cons: Orange color setting needs to be more adjustable to make it a little more red/less green in order to match the BMW/MINI "Portland Orange" color. But this is just my OCD talking. :-)

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is my first venture into an aftermarket car receiver after my well-worn factory unit became too glitchy. The receiver is nice looking, straightforward, and easy to use. The sound is very nice even using my factory speakers (a speaker upgrade would make it even better). I like the doors over the CD and Aux/USB inputs for when they aren't in use. There's a nice set of colors you can choose, or you can just keep it on random where it will cycle through them. The glare in sunlight can be a problem, but this is a universal issue. Frequency modification (EQ) is fairly easy and it has several presets if you aren't a sound tweaker. The display functions are pretty easy as well and allow you to change things to your needs on the fly. Menu navigation is somewhat labored, but not too bad once you get used to it. The remote is a nice touch for those who can use one, and of course there's the detachable face for added security. While taking apart my dash was quite a process, installation of the receiver after that was a snap. Crutchfield's instructions made that very easy. I called a Crutchfield Tech when I had a question about one of the wires, and he was very helpful and extremely courteous. So far, I'm very satisfied.

Pros: Nice sound, good looks, great value for the feature set, outstanding tech support.

Cons: iPod navigation on the head unit takes a little getting used to. Sunlight glare on the display (a problem with most receivers).

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The Kenwood KDC-358U is a real nice deck with lots of features and capability. We were looking for something to replace the factory Mach 3 deck in a '03 Ford Ranger Edge. We wanted to add the auxiliary jack input and USB port functions. We looked at adding this to the factory deck, but for about the same price, we could replace the entire deck and have those functions. It was great, the deck is cool, and was easy to install using the installation kit and factory harness adapter Crutchfield recommended for our application. It took less than an hour to wire the harness, remove the factory deck, and install the new deck. It looks and sounds great, and the multiple color display settings will give you about any look you want with your factory dash lighting.

Pros: Gives you all the functions you want or need, plus will interface with a satellite radio receiver if you want or have one. Most functions are intuitive and can be learned with about 15 minutes of time using it.

Cons: The clock synchronization function is not as intuitive and requires reading the owners manual to understand how it works.

Crutchfield always makes the home installer's life easier. The included installation materials and instructions are top notch. I bought my first Kenwood car receiver 30 yrs ago and this unit did not disappoint. Removing the old radio was more challenging then installing the new. The instructions were good but I would recommend searching Youtube for video help also.

Pros: Nice sound especially for the price, far better than the stock unit.

Cons: Because of the design of my truck, this receiver had to be installed in the center of the dash (further away from the driver). I have some trouble seeing the display and controls. The clock characters are small. The display is not particularly visible in direct sun and the control functions are not intuitive but this will get better with practice.

WOW! I put the HU in earlier this evening and played with it for about 30 minutes, but so far - very impressed with the quality of the sound upgrade from stock. Replaced the stock HU in my 96 MB E320. Perfect fit. Easy install. I'm no audiophile, but the sound is very crisp and clear. Tried the Tuner/Iphone/Pandora/iHeartradio functions - all worked as advertised and sound amazing. Looking forward to getting plenty of use from those functions. I'll try to update this review after I've had about a month of system use. Easy to find a nice amber color to match the other dash lighting.

Pros: - Very easy install (manual called for cutting of factory harness for my range of vehicle model - but it was unnecessary for my specific setup - perfect fit for adapter harness to factory harness) - Nice clean face-plate - Variable colors allow easy dash lighting match - Lots of listening options

USB Port: The Kenwood KDC-358U features a front panel USB (type-A) port that is hidden behind a flip-up cover. The USB port enables connection and control of a portable USB mass-storage class (MSC) device; such as select Android smartphones (Froyo/Gingerbread OS only), portable digital audio players, or USB thumbdrives. The unit supports playback of MP3 (8-320 kbps), WMA (32-192 kbps), and WAV music files stored on a compatible USB memory device formatted with FAT12/16/32 file system. Your USB device should only have a maximum of 8 folder layers, 999 folders, and 999 files per folder - with a maximum of 20,480 files and folders. USB portable audio players that can be charged via USB will be charged when plugged into the CD receiver's USB port (max. 1A), and the vehicle's ignition switch is set to ACC or On.

Note: When a mass-storage class (MSC) compatible smartphone is connected to the head unit's USB input, the unit's Drive Change features lets you select its internal memory or external memory (such as an SD card) for stored music playback. The Drive Change feature also lets you switch between multiple memory cards (up to 5) in a USB multi-card reader or multiple USB thumbdrives (up to 5) connected to a USB hub.

Music Control for Android Smartphone: The Kenwood Music Control app for Android organizes your Android smartphone's music, while providing quick and easy search capability from the Kenwood CD receiver. The free Kenwood Music Control App for Android can be downloaded onto your Android smartphone from the Google Play App Store. Your Android smartphone must be running Android OS Froyo or Gingerbread (2.2+). Once the app is downloaded and has a chance to organize all the stored music on your Android smartphone, you can connect your Android smartphone to the Kenwood CD receiver via USB (your compatible Android smartphone must be recognized as a USB mass storage class device; not compatible with MTP protocol). The Kenwood Music Control app offers the following Android supported functions.

    • Song Management: Music stored in your Android smartphone can be navigated from the Kenwood CD receiver. Songs can be easily selected by searching for a Song title, Artist name, Album label, or Genre.
    • Song Information Display: Song information such as Artist name, Song title, and Album label are displayed on the connected Kenwood CD receiver.
    • Mood Playlist: Playlists can be created by classifying songs into categories by type of mood. Songs are analyzed and classified into the following categories of moods - High Energy (Active/Powerful/Core), Acoustic (Detailed/Simple/Smooth/Easy), Standard (Dynamic/Rockin/Vivid), Stylistic (Cool/Urban/Trance)

    Audio Section

16 Bit D/A Converter: The Kenwood KDC-358U utilizes a 16-bit digital to analog converter for superior sound quality.

MOSFET Amplifier: The Kenwood KDC-358U is equipped with a MOSFET amplifier. Compared to conventional power supplies, the MOSFET amplification circuit is smaller and more efficient, and it delivers increased power with less distortion and absolutely zero on/off switching noise. More power means louder and cleaner music at higher volumes because you're not pushing the limits of the amplification circuit. The power output specs for the KDC-358U are as follows:

    • Full Bandwidth Power: 22 watts RMS x 4 channels (at 4 ohms, 20-20kHz, 1% THD)
    • Maximum Output Power: 50 watts x 4 channels

6ch/2.5V Preamp Outputs: The KDC-358U features front, rear and subwoofer 2.5-volt preamp outputs. The front and rear speaker preamp outputs are balance and fade adjustable. The subwoofer preamp output is non-fading. The front, rear, and subwoofer preamp outputs are fixed to the rear chassis of the head unit.

Front & Rear High-Pass Filter: The KDC-358U features a High-Pass Crossover for the front & rear channels when your front & rear speakers are connected by the unit's speaker-outputs or preamp-outputs. You can adjust the high-pass crossover from "Through", 100, 120, or 150 Hz. The "Through" selection is a full-range setting.

Subwoofer Controls: The Kenwood KDC-358U offers the following subwoofer controls, when you are using unit's subwoofer preamp output.

    • Low Pass Filter: The receiver features a built-in Low Pass Filter control for the preamp-output, when the output is set to Subwoofer. You can select from 85 Hz, 120 Hz, 160 Hz, or off.
    • Subwoofer Phase: You can adjust the phase of the subwoofer output between 180-degrees (Reverse) or 0-degrees (Normal).
    • Subwoofer Level: Once the Subwoofer preamp output is activated, you can independently control the subwoofer preamp output level (-15 to +15) from the CD receiver.

Speaker Settings: The Speaker Setting function tailors the head unit's audio settings according to the type of speakers in your vehicle. You may select a Speaker Setting of 'SP-Off' (flat/off), 'SP-OEM' (for OEM factory speaker systems), 'SP-6x9/6' (for systems with 6" and 6"x9" speakers), or 'SP-5/4' (for systems with 4" and 5" speakers).

Preset EQ: Eight EQ curves are preset into memory, allowing you to recall the best preset EQ curve for different types of music. Each preset has its own level settings for bass, midrange, and treble . You can choose from the following preset EQ curves; Rock, Pops, Easy, Top 40, Jazz, Natural, Drive EQ, or User. The Drive EQ mode is an EQ preset that helps reduce road noise. The User mode allows you to manually adjust the head unit's Bass (200Hz) , Midrange (2.5kHz), and Treble (12.5kHz) level from +/- 8dB.

Note: You can store bass, middle and treble tone settings for each source (CD, AM/FM, Aux, USB, iPod, and Pandora/iHeart Radio).

Sound Enhancements: The head unit provides further sound enhancements for your car audio system.

    • Bass Boost: The Kenwood CD receiver features a Bass Boost control that can be set to the following levels (BB1, BB2, BB3, or Off).
    • Loudness: This function enhances low and high frequencies to make the sound clearer lower volumes. There are 3 levels (LV1, LV2, or Off).
    • Sound Reconstruction: When MP3 or WMA files encoded at a low bit rate (less than 96 kbps, 44.1k, 48kHz) are played, the Sound Reconstruction function restores their high frequencies so the sound quality is closer to files encoded at a high bit rate. The processing is optimized for the compression format and the bit rate used. When Sound Reconstruction is Off, the unit plays the original sound stored in the audio file.

Volume Offset: The level of each source may be independently adjusted to prevent radical leaps in output volume when switching from one source to another. The available settings range from -8 to 0 (-8 to +8 for Aux source).

Key Beep: The in-dash head unit provides an audible beep to confirm button operation. This function can be turned On or Off.

The PDF on the Kenwood website doesn't show one, so probably not. [ GLENN  Sep 05, 2014 ]

There is a setting that can change colors randomly but the music doesn't affect the way the colors change. [ TERRY R  Aug 16, 2014 ]
    Yes [ FEROZE  Aug 16, 2014 ]
    Yes [ FEROZE  Aug 16, 2014 ]
To the best of my knowledge it does not change colors to the music you are playing. You can however manually change to multiple display colors. I found the operational instructions very difficult to understand. My son(it is installed inn his car) uses it mainly with his I-Pod, so he is happy with it. Last time we tried we still could not figure out how to preset stations. [ DAVID  Aug 15, 2014 ]
No, but you can have it change color randomly [ ERIC  Aug 15, 2014 ]
It changes every like 3 seconds , not to the music [ JAVIER  Aug 15, 2014 ]
    Yes [ FEROZE  Aug 15, 2014 ]
Yes it does. However you can adjust it one of many colors if you like [ DAVID  Aug 15, 2014 ]
I have not seen that feature anywhere, although there is an option in display colors which slowly fades between all of the available colors constantly. There also is not an equalizer view which displays a live equalizer. The display is pretty simple, and my biggest complaint is you cant read it to save your life in bright sunlight, even at max brightness with the dimmer off. Looks great at night, but if you expect to see it in the day, especially with sunglasses, fuhgettaboutit. [ LUKE  Aug 15, 2014 ]
This receiver does not have enough amplifier power for a subwoofer. You would need to connect an amp to the receiver, then from the amp to the subwoofer. [ Jeff  Aug 13, 2014 ]  Staff
What is the model of your ipod? [ asif105878  Feb 26, 2014 ]
Yes, I just purchased and installed this deck and works perfectly from my iphone [ TODD  Feb 24, 2014 ]
Yes you can control it with an ipod or iphone. Its a very user friendly stereo, especially if you have owned a Kenwood stereos before. [ LARRY L  Feb 23, 2014 ]
Sorry but you can only control the iPod from the radio . [ Anthony  Feb 23, 2014 ]
I have not been able to install it, can't find the adapter and it does not look good without one. [ Paulo  Feb 23, 2014 ]
Not if its plugged into AUX. If you have a USB connection you can search by folder and track number. [ NICHOLAS G  Feb 19, 2014 ]
Hi Asif A I don't know. I installed the unit for my wife in her vehicle. I do not use the Kenwood at all. Sorry I could not be of more help. Thank you Joe Ludden [ Joe  Feb 16, 2014 ]
I installed it in my wife's car and didn't play with it too much so I'm not sure, sorry [ steve  Feb 14, 2014 ]
I have only connected my Ipad. And yes I can search from my Ipad by album or artist or song. [ MICHELLE  Feb 14, 2014 ]

3 answers How is the display in terms of readability while driving? Is it bigger than the last year's models like Kenwood KDC-HD455U ( Does it scroll song and artist name? Does it display more than one folder or just one folder when using the browse function? [ asif105878  Feb 04, 2014 ]

Yes it does scroll the song and artist name. It displays more than one folder. The main issue is the clock is very small no matter what display options you select. [ JASON  Feb 05, 2014 ]
Yes it scrolls title and artist and is bigger but the clock display is on the bottom of the display and very hard to see. Everything else is easy to read, color selection has a little to do with that too. The folder question I'm not to sure about I always use and iPod and I set it on title/artist. Overall it's a really good radio [ Matthew  Feb 05, 2014 ]
Asif A, I can't answer the readability as it compares to last year's models (I haven't personally put eyes on any of those). The main display has several options, one of which does scroll the song and artist name for your digital music (ipod, flash drive, etc) and also from FM stations providing that station is broadcasting that information. The only time I used it with a flash drive was with a single folder, using the Kenwood provided PC software called "Kenwood Music Editor" that you can download. The software can read through multiple levels of folders. If you use the software to build the metadata on the flash drive your search options increase. From the manual: When you play audio files with song data added using the KENWOOD Music Editor light or KENWOOD Music Control, you can search for audio files by Genres, Artists, Albums, Playlists, and Songs. _, For what it's worth I'm still enjoying this head unit and think it's a great value. [ Emile  Feb 05, 2014 ]
Sorry no Android or iPhone [ JIMMY  Feb 09, 2014 ]
    Dont know. I use iphone. Sorry [ ROBERT T  Jan 20, 2014 ]
What a buzzkill, if it just plugs in the USB drive I don't understand why it would only work for iPhones.. [ Jeremiah  Jan 20, 2014 ]
    iphones only [ Jonna  Jan 20, 2014 ]
It only works for iPhones. I'm pretty sure it's like that on almost every Headunit [ DAN  Jan 20, 2014 ]
There's an eject button under the cover. [ michael  Jan 12, 2014 ]
There's an eject button under the cover, on the right side [ MATTHEW  Jan 08, 2014 ]
there is a flip up cover and underneath that cover is an eject button [ LINDA S  Jan 08, 2014 ]
There is an eject button under the cover. [ Mark  Jan 07, 2014 ]
You have to push the eject button [ MARION W  Jan 07, 2014 ]
The cover is just like a dust cover and to hide the cd slot. You still have to push an eject button to get cd out. [ steve  Jan 07, 2014 ]
Yes there is an eject button under the flip up cover. [ RODNEY A  Jan 07, 2014 ]
Yes have to lift up the cover then hit the red button on the coner of the radio to the right [ Anthony  Jan 07, 2014 ]
For details on fit or installation please contact an Advisor by phone or online chat. They will be able to pull up your vehicle and give you the details on if this will fit and what you will need for an installation in your vehicle. [ Jeff  Jan 03, 2014 ]  Staff
Yes it can. The stereo seems to do almost the full color spectrum. [ Joe  Jan 10, 2014 ]
Yes the color can be changed to red. It can auto-change colors or be set to one specific color. [ JASON  Jan 08, 2014 ]
I believe I saw one of the colors as red. [ DOUG  Jan 04, 2014 ]
Yes. The display and button colors can be changed to Red. Note, the display and button colors must match. ie. you cannot have Red buttons and Blue display. If I recall correctly, there are about 24 pre-set colors (a few of those are different variations/shades of Red) and 1 user/custom setting where you can fine tune the Red/Blue/Green settings to make your own custom color.
