Component sound

Kenwood's Performance Series speakers deliver the full range of your music with accuracy and warmth. The KFC-P509PS component speaker system includes two 5-1/4" woofers and two 1" dome tweeters, along with in-line crossover networks that simplify installation.

Woofer construction

Each woofer cone features a Diamond Array pattern that increases the strength of its surface, improving bass response as well as reducing internal vibrations and other distortions. The cone's rubber surround resists weathering and provides reliable support that keeps your music playing, no matter what.

Separate tweeter for superior sound

The 1" soft dome tweeter mounts in a separate location closer to your ears, so it can broadcast the high-frequency details more effectively. The in-line crossover network routes the correct frequencies to the woofer and tweeter, so you hear clean, balanced sound.

Installation note: You'll need a pair of our universal backstraps to install the tweeters in the factory locations.

If u want nice bass and good sound get these. I got one set, should've gotten 2.

Pros: Much better than 3 ways. Easy to install. Good price. These put my 3 ways that I purchased with these to shame.

Cons: None really. Get what u pay for.

Great sound!

These sound great in my 2003 Avalanche. A real upgrade from the factory originals. I had to tweak the placement of the tweeters but otherwise very easy to install.

Pros: Sound quality

Cons: Tweeter install location is a bit ghetto.

Great speakers once amplified

Pros: Perfect fit in most cars

Cons: none

Poor Quality

LeviH from Ohio on 9/15/2014

These speakers worked well for the first few months of having them, but then I started hearing some signs of one of them being blown while I had them hooked up the the 45W RMS that they're rated for (checked for clipping with O-Scope). The midbass from these isn't impressive at all for what I paid and the highs are almost ear-piercing. I would not get these again and I would not recommend them to anyone.

Pros: Fit well in a 1998 Grand Prix GTP, had to hot-glue the tweeters into the door sail (expected that with any component set I would've got). Sounded ok for a few months.

Cons: Poor build quality, poor sound field, rattling after less than a year on the 45W RMS specified that they can handle.

The sound quality is outstanding. With the set-up I have it sounds like a concert in the car.

Pros: Great sound quality. The voice from the mids is clear and conscise. The tweeters produce outstanding highs.

Better than stock

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I'm no audio expert but to me these speakers sound clean with the Kenwood radio I installed at the same time. The factory speakers were blown (cranked 1812 Overture up a bit much) and I fried the front panel of the stock radio. I'm still trying to get more mid-range from them and can't pin down if it's my radio settings or the bass blockers that I installed since I also installed an 8" powered sub. Radio options are not intuitive (that's another review) and I haven't had time to take everything back apart and remove the blockers. Although Crutchfield provided adapters for the speakers, brackets for the tweeters had to be fabricated and I cracked the housing that came with them as the directions for removing it was a pictogram that didn't show enough detail. A picture showing how it should look removed would have helped along with something written explaining the process better.

Pros: Clean sounding.

Cons: instructions could be better

They don't have the punch i thought they would.. the tweeters are louder than the 5 1/4 's .. i have them hooked up to a kdc-x797 no amp..

Pros: price and were somewhat easy to install..

Cons: not the sound i was looking for.. Bass almost non existent. mids are there but not very loud..

Nice kit of speakers - sound great

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great sounding (budget) speakers. Universal installation for most applications. I was hoping these would work in my wife's 2001 Acura Integra, since it came stock with component tweeters. Despite the amount of different mounting methods, it was quite difficult to make these work, since I had to use the factory grilles (since the Kenwood bezels were too small for the hole in the door panel.) I would have given 5-stars if this speaker kit worked flawlessly for my application. Several weeks later, they sound great and as for speaker/sound quality, I have no complaints.

Pros: Universal mounting for most applications.

Pros: Great sound Good price

Cons: None

Sound great

Levi from Ohio on 12/26/2013

I installed these in my 1998 Grand Prix GTP today. I could not get the tweeters to fit right so I just hooked up the original ones and they sound great. The woofers sound so much better than the original speakers (from 1998). They sound better than the 6.5" pioneers that I had installed in my 03 cavalier by far and I'm impressed with them.

Pros: Great sound, clear, nice looking, easy install

Cons: Could not get tweeters installed without drilling hole in door panel (Crutchfield said they would fit in factory location but they didn't fit)

Sweet set of Clearance Speakers! I love Kenwood Sound! I highly recommend these speakers!

Pros: Crystal Clear sound and good depth too! Best part! They fit in all the stock spots that are in the vehicle already so no crazy cutting and building going on! Car still looks factory new! Awesome!

Cons: None I can think of!

Wow what a difference

2004 Mazda RX8
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I installed these in the front doors of a 2004 Mazda rx8, the installation was extremely easy. The adapter plates, factory matched speaker wire plugs and master build sheet included by crutchfield made it an easy fun project. The crossover/tweeter feed wire was long enough and was easily routed through the existing clips and grommets. The only modification I made was to remove the tweeters from they're mounting brackets and removed the grilles. They fit perfectly in the factory door sail mount I also fabricated a wedge underneath to direct the output toward the rear of cab more, so the highs would fill the space better. These speakers did exactly as I expected and I now have great mids and highs in the cabin of this car. It's amazing what it was lacking with the stock system

Pros: Ease of install, crisp clear mids and highs, durability, price

Cons: Should have option to purchase without grilles. For a factory location they're not needed and is a waste of materials

Great sound

Great replacement for stock speakers. Fit and work as described. The installation info is invaluable and help is only a call away and online. Also calls are answered quickly and no automated answering service that put you on hold like most support lines. Also purchased a Kenwood receiver KDC-MP345U which is a great combo.

Nice Value

Jeff from Kansas on 3/13/2010

Just installed these in the rear deck of my '01 Neon along with the matching P709PS in the front door. I don't know how they'd sound powered off a head unit amp, but with a decent 4 channel they really come alive! I previously had a set of 9 year old JL 6x9's without an amp and this setup is like night and day compared to those. Like I said a real nice value. The only thing that's not mentioned is the crossover isn't much. It's just heatshrinked into the line from the tweeters to main speaker. That and the line length may not be sufficient if you're installing the tweeters in factory locations. But all in all, am really enjoying these speakers.

Woofers: The 5-1/4" woofer cones are textured Polypropylene and use rubber surrounds for added durability and bass response. The woofer basket is designed to fit a standard 4-hole 5-1/4" application.

Soft Dome Tweeters: The 1" soft dome tweeters offer smooth highs and low distortion.

Tweeter Mounting Options: The tweeters can be flush mounted using the supplied housings and metal retaining-clips. Once installed the tweeters can pivot in the housing, so their angles can be adjusted to obtain a better soundstage. The tweeters can also be top or bottom mounted in a factory tweeter location using the included brackets. The tweeters cannot pivot when installed in the OEM brackets. Once mounted in the appropriate housing, the tweeters have these dimensions:

Flush Mount Factory Top Mount (remove bottom mount flanges) Factory Bottom Mount (remove top mount flanges)
Mounting Depth 1.233" mounting screw depth 0.993"
Mounting Height 0.668" 0.913" 0"

Crossover Network: The system features 6 dB/octave crossovers at 5 kHz; the low-pass woofer crossovers are wired to the terminals and attached to the speaker baskets; the high-pass tweeter crossovers are integrated in the included 28" speaker wire.
