Kenwood KFC-P709PS

The Performers

Kenwood's Performance Series speakers deliver the full range of your music with accuracy and warmth. The KFC-P709PS component speaker system includes two 6-3/4" woofers and two 1" dome tweeters, along with in-line crossover networks that simplify installation.

Woofer construction

Each woofer cone features a Diamond Array pattern that increases the strength of its surface, improving bass response as well as reducing internal vibrations and other distortions. The cone's rubber surround resists weathering and provides reliable support that keeps your music playing, no matter what. The woofers will fit in 6-3/4" and 6-1/2" factory speaker openings.

Separate tweeter for superior sound

The 1" soft dome tweeter mounts in a separate location closer to your ears, so it can broadcast the high-frequency details more effectively. The in-line crossover network routes the correct frequencies to the woofer and tweeter, so you hear clean, balanced sound.

Installation note: You'll need a pair of our universal backstraps to install the tweeters in the factory locations.

Substantial improvement over factory speakers

Chad C. from Taylors, SC on 6/19/2016

2002 Chevrolet Express
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I installed these as replacements for worn factory speakers in a Chevy Express cargo van. They sound great. The mid/bass speaker fit the factory mounting base with no problems, and the provided wiring connector was also a perfect fit. I did have to cut an opening in each of the door panels to accommodate the tweeters. Only thing I didn't care for was the flimsy, floppy mounting strap for the tweeters. Kenwood needs to make those straps a little more substantial. I made my own out of some aluminum flat bar from Lowe's. I'm giving them a five star rating on sound versus price. They sound quite good. They are not a match for the comparable Infinity product I used for my last car stereo install, but the Infinity kit was significantly more money. For an upgrade speaker in a work van, these are the right price and sound quality, much better than the factory stuff, and at this price I won't feel hesitant about letting them go with the van whenever I sell/trade. I installed them as front speakers along with an amp/woofer rear speaker I had in storage from a previous vehicle install. I am using them with a crossover as mid/high drivers, with the woofer covering low mids and bass. I checked them out for a week or so before I had time to install the woofer. They sound fine as full range drivers with no other speakers involved, still a significant upgrade over the factory speakers even without the separate woofer. For the money, can't go wrong with these.

Pros: Sound much better than factory speakers, as full range drivers or as mid/high front speakers paired with a rear woofer set up. Easy fit to factory mounts (for the mid/bass driver). Great value at this price point.

Cons: Flimsy tweeter strap barely holds tweeters in place, wasn't comfortable using them with the tweeters mounted in doors that require a firm swing to latch.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The speakers are great!! I'm a big kenwood fan, always put out great products. These are not meant for bass, so don't expect thump.According to the "what fits my car" it's a joke. They are supposed to fit in the rear panels of a standard cab 2001 Dodge Ram, not even close with drilling new mounting holes and using the supplied bracket. So I put the in the front doors. But the product is great!!

Pros: Great price, and crossover built into wirering for tweeters

Cons: Crutchfield needs to look into what speaker fit where

2005 Dodge Dakota Installation

2005 Dodge Dakota
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I ordered these speakers specifically because the website indicated that they would fit a 2005 Dodge Dakota. This is not the case. First of all the tweeters don't fit. You have to cut out the factory grill and enlarge the hole on the door panel. This would not be a huge issue if it wasn't for the two gaping rivet holes left over from removing the factory grill; huge eye sore. I opted not to install these, as the factory tweeters were still operating just fine. The woofers in the doors sort of fit, though with some persuasion. 1) You will need to use the brackets that come with the speakers - so no direct swap. 2) You will need to fabricate a large washer to facilitate the mounting of the Kenwood speaker bracket to the Dodge speaker bracket. 3) You will need to drill out the Dodge speaker brackets to allow the Kenwood speaker mounting screws to pass through. Overall, I got the job done, but it was not a straight forward affair - and I have two Kenwood tweeters lying around.

Pros: Crutchfield support was easy to use

Cons: Tweeters don't fit Woofers are not a direct swap

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These speakers sound great and are reasonably easy to install in a 98 altima. However, no directions so for first timers, not so easy. The directions that came with the speakers are completely useless. No explanations, just pictures. The tweeter installation was terrible. The speaker is supposed to release from the exterior housing so you can install them behind the door panel to replace the stock tweeters. However, they would not release because the glue used to attach the connection pins spread out over the plastic release notch. I had to completley break the plastic housing to remove it. Then, I had to drill new holes to install them. When ordering these, Crutchfield stated that these were a direct fit. However, these were too big to be a direct fit and I had to reposition them until I could get the handset and the panel to finally fit.

These speakers sound great. Really good mid-bass response, but has good mids also. The tweeters are excellent, really fills out the frequency band with these component speakers. I'm pretty sure I'm gonna get a 2nd set for my door speakers later on down the road in my '99 Dakota club cab. I'm very pleased with these. Would recommend these all day.

Pros: Good price ( got them on sale for $97, but I'll certainly pay the full price for them also) Good performance. Sounds awesome.

I have a 98 Jeep TJ with a sound bar. I drilled a couple of 3/4" holes in the sound bar, and added this set powered by a R/F 400w amp wired to the rear channels. (I mounted the amp inside the passenger side dash glove box). I also got the Kenwood powered sub and put that under the seat. The Kenwood speakers are great. Having the tweets in the back adds a lot of depth. I didn't need (or expect) boom from 6 1/2's. I've got great midrange from them and crisp highs from the tweets. And thanks crutchfield for exchanging the previous set I got. Happy customer

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Installed these speakers in the front doors of my 2010 Colorado ext. cab. OEM speakers included door mounted tweeters. I'm using a Kenwood DPX791BH in-dash receiver to drive them. Crutchfield provided Scosche SAC-656 Speaker Mounting Brackets free with my order. These speakers were not a drop in replacement for the OEM speakers. The Kenwood box included mounting brackets which I used instead of the Scosche brackets. The Kenwood-included mounting brackets were easier to adapt for my particular application. If you enjoy reading instructions provided in 4-5 languages and using mostly incomprehensible pictures, then you should have no trouble installing these speakers. But seriously, the first door took more than two hours installation time, but most of that was making sure I was interpreting the directions accurately, plus measuring multiple times before drilling the mounting holes in the door. For the OEM tweeters, I needed to use a dremel tool to neatly cutoff the plastic tabs holding the OEM tweeters in place. After that, I still needed to use a utility knife to make the hole slightly larger for the Kenwood tweeters. There are several installation options for the tweeters. I chose the option to mount them on top of the door panel so I could aim the tweeters. Final installation looks fine. Sound quality is good, much better than the OEM speakers.

Pros: Sounds good for rock music. Kenwood included mounting brackets.

Cons: Kenwood installation instructions leave much to be desired.

The low down

Deacon W from California on 1/9/2015

I have havd great experience with that size and model type of that bass speaker... I am now embarking on purchasing the Hi and Low pair for my 92 Mustang GT. My goal is to have my music make sweet tones inside the car, as well as have my exhaush sing outside. Wish me luch as I tune in the hi and low speakers through my kewood 600 amp, and KDC798 headset.

Pros: I expect good mid-lows. if the tweeter is as solided as I know the low, It gives me more flexibility when setting my sub cross-over freq

Cons: on pins and needles to hear the addition of that hi tweeter

Excellent sound.

2005 Chevrolet Suburban
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Ordered these to replace factory Bose speakers and factory a-pillar tweeters in '05 Suburban. Had to return them because they wouldn't fit the front door openings. I knew the tweeters would be hit-or-miss given the small amount of space on the a-pillar so my comments aren't based on that at all. The speakers didn't line up at all with anything in the door. Tech support was great and facilitated a swap out that got the speakers I'd ordered for the rear doors (fit according to fitment guide but didn't in reality) designated for the front and replacements for the rear shipped out within a couple of days. Rating here is for the service experience as I never got to hear the speakers installed.

Great sound

Jeff from Petersburg, IL on 10/20/2014

I installed these in my 2003 Jeep Liberty at the recommendation of a local audio store to replace my OEM front door speakers and dash tweeters. My installation was a bit tricky because my car had the OEM Infinity system with the built in power amps attached to the front speakers. I decided to bypass those amps so the impedance would better match with my new Pioneer head unit. Installation took about 4 hours because I had to 1) go to the hardware store to buy a 5.5 mm nut driver to remove the pillar grab bars to get into the dash to access the tweeters 2) go to the hardware store to find something to make brackets to mount the tweeters in the existing dash cavity 3) trace the existing wires to assure I was making the proper connections. As I installed each speaker I tested it to make sure my connections were right. I got more excited after each test because I noticed vast improvements to my sound. After the final connections were made and everything was buttoned up I was very happy at how crisp and clean everything sounded. The tweeters are crystal clear and really help dial in the highs. The woofers sound fat and when I push the bass up in the EQ they still sound good and tight. I don't have component amps or a subwoofer installed (yet). I'm going to run these a while with my head to decide if, how much and what I need. For my daily driver I quite satisfied with the sound now.

Pros: Good instructions, solid construction and great sound quality.

Cons: I had to fabricate brackets to mount the tweeters. This isn't really a negative about the speakers, but something to keep in mind. Even though I was replacing OEM dash tweeters, these new tweeters were smaller and were not a direct bolt on. I could have let these tweeters just sit in the cavity, maybe with some foam padding around them, but I preferred a solid mount. I cut some strips of aluminum flashing, bent it and drilled holes for a secure installation.

Good Speaker, but Bass is light

Jason W from Charlotte, NC on 10/17/2014

2007 Toyota Tundra
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased these speakers based on customer reviews. Overall the quality is certainly better than what I was getting from my stock speakers. The highs are very clear, however I don't get a very rich bass sound from them. That is probably more a result of not having a dedicated subwoofer, so I don't know that it's fair to knock the speaker. For a basic all around good speaker, I think it's a solid choice.

Pros: Good overall sounds. You can split out the tweeter and co-locate in a different spot. The highs are very clean and crisp, especially over the factory speakers.

Cons: Lacks a little thump on the bass. Would like a richer sound on the lows.

Nice Sounding from Chattanooga, TN on 9/30/2014

I bought these to replace the factory speakers in my 07 Chevy Cobalt coupe. I am currently running the Kenwood KDC-X497 headunit to go with these speakers and also I bought the KFC-6995PS to go in the rear deck of the car. And soon will buy an amp to run all this. But right now, it sounds great with bass but with an amp would make a difference. Had no problem on install, and it was easy in the Cobalt. Will buy these speakers for my doors again.

Pros: Sound great in the car, crisp sound and installation was easy

Cons: tweeter had some problems but did find a place to put them.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Installed in my 09 Silverado with a Kenwood DNX-891HD head unit, speakers sound much better than factory as expected, more bass than I thought I would get so not going to install sub at this time (sorry Crutchfield). Installed in factory hole with adaptor from Crutchfield flawlessly, very easy to do. Unfortunately the tweeter would not fit inside of the OEM bracket where the factory ones are and did not want them surface mounted in any way or cut holes in my interior plastic so had to use originals. Not sure I would have noticed a difference anyway.

Pros: Great sound, very clean and good base

Cons: Tweeters would not go in OEM location

Earl from Somewhere, Fl on 6/23/2014

Well, I bought these speakers for a different reason than most do. I have an 05' Jeep Wrangler with a 6.5" center console woofer (as much bass as you can get out of a 6.5" woofer!). So, I only needed 1 speaker and the tweeters were a bonus. I installed the speaker and it does put a crisp bass sound into the little cab of a 2 door Jeep. So, now I am trying to think of what to do with the tweeters , and I'm saving the other speaker as a back up. I love this speaker!

Pros: Crisp sound, good bass note, easy installation.

Cons: None

2005 Toyota Sequoia
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have a '05 Sequoia. Stock 8" JBL's on both front doors were blown out like everybody else's Sequoia and Tundra. I purchased these to replace both front speakers. Crutchfield says these aren't recommended for the front doors, recommends them for the rear doors. Anything you have to put in that front door is going to require you making a bracket to fit any 6.5" speaker. Nothing different here. I made the brackets for both the 8" slot and the mid that is next to it. The tweeters this comes with can't be installed on the top of the door where your existing tweeter is because the cover will not fit if you put these tweeters in. In addition, the crossover that comes with the Kenwood's won't reach if you try and install the tweeters up there. It works perfect if you put the new tweeters in place of the stock mids. (besides, it's probably your wolfer that's blown anyway and your tweeter is fine). These speakers can take anything that the stock JBL head unit can pump out and stays clear and crisp. The bass isn't as deep as the stock 8" wolfers but you can turn it up louder without that feeling that the speaker is going to blow like it did with the stock JBL's. All in all it's a great replacement speaker for the stock JBL system, you will not be let down by Kenwood. They came through and I'm delighted. Oh, I gave these speakers a 4 because making the brackets is kind of a pain. Not difficult, you tube it and you'll be fine. You just won't be able to do it 1 hour.

Pros: The sound it gives with the stock JBL head unit is great. Nice and tight bass, crisp highs.

Cons: making the bracket to install is kind of a pain. The bass isn't as deep as the stock JBL 8" speaker the sequoia came with, but the bass it does provide is tight and sufficient for this application.

Could you find better speakers? Sure. But these sound great and they are very reasonably priced. I had to replace the factory speakers because they were all blown when I got the vehicle so I dont have a basis for comparison. But these do exactly what I need and I didnt have to drop $250+ in another component set. And maybe eventually I will get an amplifier or aftermarket reciever and im sure that would make a huge difference.

I purchased these speakers along with the Q-logic kick panel mounts. Great product comes with tweeters, inline crossovers, and the woofers. I appreciate that it comes with almost everything needed for installation minus speaker wire. I prefer this system over a pair of 2 way or 3 way speakers, because it comes with an easy to install crossover which allows me to separate my highs and lows. I hooked these speakers up to a 2 channel 60 watt kenwood amp and they hit really hard.

Pros: Quality product Easy to install

Pros: Ease of installation of the speakers

Cons: Lack of installation info on the tweeters. For anyone else attempting to install the speakers and tweeters into the door of a 2001 Chevy Silverado, there is plenty of room for the tweeters you just have to have a small amount of mechanical savvy to do so, as the installation instructions that Kenwood provides lacks a bit.

Like every one else is stating they lack in the low ranges but that's what the subwoofer is for. I have the high and low pass set at 120Hz and it turns all my friends heads how nice it sounds.

Pros: Great price, good quality, nice sound

Cons: Poor low range (but that's what subwoofers are for), and the short tweeter wires

So far these speakers sound awesome! And They are only being powered by a Kenwood Excelon X496. In a few months I'll be getting a Kenwood KAC 8405, I'll come back and edit this review accordingly. I don't believe it will be a bad review because These speakers are Great! The two things I was disappointed about was there wasn't any 3M double stick tape for attaching the tweeters to my windshield to save from drilling holes in my "A" post. A minor detail that was easily solved and not enough speaker wire for the tweeters; this too was easily solved.

Pros: Component speakers allow detailed imaging by having the tweeters separate so you can aim them towards your listening area.

Cons: If you need to attach the tweeters to a glass surface the wasn't any double stick tape and limited speaker wire for the tweeters.

I bought these speakers to replace the stock speakers at the front doors of my 2007 Toyota Tacoma Double Cab Pre-Runner V6. The supplied mounting kit for the 6-3/4" speakers worked well on both doors. The supplied wiring harness could have been a tad longer but I made it work (I had trouble with it at the passenger side door). I had a bit of difficulty installing the tweeters, I had to make a mounting bracket myself in order to install the tweeters in the factory installed tweeter location. When it was time to test the speakers, nothing was coming out until I hooked up the OEM tweeters again. I do not want to mess with the wiring so I kept the OEM tweeters and placed it securely behind the door panel so it will not rattle. These speakers are really an excellent upgrade from the stock speakers. The magnets are huge and the construction of the speakers are outstanding. Even my kids appreciated the great sound difference. It did not take me very long to install theses speakers, thanks to Cructhfield for the Step by step guide and the supplied bracket and wiring harness, that really saved me a bundle. Next upgrade on my list is the receiver and later on amplifier and a sub.

Pros: Great component speakers and upgrade for the price.

Cons: I still have the original tweeter installed (not Kenwood's fault - most likely Toyota)

Not a 6 3/4 speaker

DaveM from MA on 6/14/2012

From my experience, this is absolutely NOT a 6 3/4 speaker, it is a 6.5in speaker. My truck uses 6.75in speakers which these claim to be (the box says "oversized 6.5") but they will not fit my openings and are slightly too small. The supplied adapter rings are useless unless you own a GM or Honda vehicle with special mounting holes. They should include 6.75in holes but they only include an offset 6.5in which is obviously no help since the speakers are already 6.5 in. The mounting holes on the speaker even line up with the holes labeled "6.5in" on the adapter. After milling the ring to have 6.75in countersunk holes, i was able to bolt the speakers in but they then stuck out too much for the door panel to go back on. Be aware, these speakers have a deeper mounting depth than most factory units as well. On the plus side, the are very high quality speakers with a large magnet and solid cone and surround. The tweeters are fine but nothing too special. They do feature a nice swivel mounting cup if you actually use it. The inline crossovers are very handy as opposed to separate ones that must be mounted. However, as such, they don't allow any customization as far as sound level is concerned like a discrete unit would. My only real complaint is that upon a quick installation, they were much quieter than the other cheap aftermarket speakers I had previously. Both are 4Ohm speakers but I guess this can be compensated for in the headunit.

Pros: Quality, inline crossover

Cons: Mounting options, quiet

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought these to replace the Monsoon system that was in the car, I have to say I am very happy with them. I listen mostly to EDM such as Drum&Bass-Dubstep-House-Electro, and these hold up to the wide range of frequencies in the music. The mid and highs are great, I don't use them for bass as I have a subwoofer installed. But I would imagine they would hold up well.

Pros: Very clear sound reproduction for the price

Cons: Installation a pain in my Passat(not Kenwoods fault)

Awesome Upgrade

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Bought these to replace the stock speakers in a Montero Sport, and boy I was surprised by the difference! There was a definite sound quality improvement and everything fit (mostly). Overall I am extremely satisfied with this product and I'm about to buy these again for the rear speakers. The greatest thing is that Crutchfield provided the wiring harness, which made installation completely easy! If you want a thumping bass you'll probably want a subwoofer. Definitely take note on the mounting depth if you're planning on mounting these tweeters in the door panels. The screw on the back of the tweeter is long and will interfere with the inside of the door. On my installation I had to drill a clearance hole for these to fit.

Pros: Crutchfield quality parts and service can't be beat! Great Mid-bass and superior highs.

Cons: None! Other than the mount of the tweeter mentioned above.

Excellent clarity

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

If you are looking for slappin' bass don't, that is not what these are for... get a sub. IF you are looking for a very good mid-bass with excellent sound then this is it. The clarity is extremely good and is exactly what I was looking for. This was a replacement for my factory mid/bass tweeter speakers and what a huge difference in clarity from the stock stuff.

Pros: If you are looking for true clarity in sound then this is the set and excellent for the price point

Cons: NONE

Cons: tweeters require to much of a custom install, left them out

Nice upgrade from factory units

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I went looking for replacements for the factory front door component speakers in a 2007 Chevy Colorado standard cab. The factory speakers had failed twice (replaced once under warranty). Checked out some options at Crutchfield online and then called to ask an advisor which product may be the easiest to install. The advisor was great and very helpful and suggested these Kenwoods. Mounting the woofers took a little planning and required drilling a couple of screw holes for the supplied mounting bracket. They fit perfectly behing the stock door panel. I was able to mount the tweeters in the supplied bracket by removing the factory trim ring and cutting out the grill with a utility knife. The finished install looks as good or better than the factory tweeter. The sound from these speakers is a HUGE improvement from the factory units. The highs are much brighter and the lows much more solid. They would sound even better with a more powerful stereo or power amp but there are hassles involved with changing the stereo units in late model GM vehicles because the warning chimes are through the stereo. I would highly recommend these speakers and Crutchfield to anyone that wants to improve the factory sound and/or replace factory speakers that have failed.

Pros: Much better sound than factory speakers. Fairly easy install.

Great, especially for price

Tyler C from Joliet, IL on 8/12/2011

First off, you know you're getting a great product when you order anything Kenwood. I have always been a fan. I used these to replace my front speakers. I had 5.25s before, and it said that these would not fit. However, the speakers came with adapters (actually in the speaker box.) I screwed the adapters into the factory location, put in the woofers, and it fit like a dream. Literally couldn't have been easier. I did run into problems with the tweeters, though. They are big and would not fit in my factory tweeter location. I wanted to get them in without having to cut any holes in my door panel, but it wasn't gonna happen. I ended up drilling a hole in the tweeter grill and just mounted them there. The grill comes right off and can be easily replaced, so I didn't ruin the whole door panel. They sound good and get loud. I run them off of a Kenwood head unit, and I'm sure they'd sound better off of an amp. They get loud and sound great, you just have to know how to set your EQ. Otherwise it will distort with lows or get too high with highs. The highs and mids sound great, but there are no lows. But I didn't expect lows..that's why there are subwoofers. Great for the price.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great speakers. Kenwood always puts out a great product but the only problem with them is that you need more than a stock Dodge Infinity system to power them other than that they sound awesome. Easy fit into the stock locations and the separate tweeters were easy to adapt into the stock tweeter locations.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These speakers perform well. They will not give you low bass and don't expect them to. They are solid highs and mids. During the install I found out the tweeters didn't fit in the stock tweeter hole. Instead of trying to rig a frame we just siliconed the tweeter in the stock location. It's basically glued in. I was looking for quality and clarity in the high and mid range. It's exactly what I got. These sound great.

I ordered these speakers by mistake! I had another brand picked out when browsing before and realized I had ordered wrong when the package arrived. I know Crutchfield would swap if I asked but wanted to give Kenwood a try, needless to try I was not disappointed and saved a little money.

Great Value Sound Great

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I installed a new system in a 1999 Altima GLE for my son as a replacement to the OEM system. They were installed in the doors along with a Sony CDX-GT540UI receiver and a pair of Sony speakers in the rear. The 6 1/4's fit perfectly in the doors but the tweeters required custom installation to replace the existing tweeters. It turned out very well and they sound great. The lows are more than adequate despite the absence of an external amp and sub-woofer. If you want a quality pair of separates at a great price I recommend the Kenwood KFC-P709PS package. In addition, shortly after purchase, I found the speakers on line at a lower price and Crutchfield matched it.

Nice speakers for the price

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I installed these in my 2002 Silverado front doors and they made a big difference. The highs are clear and the bass is good but the mids are lacking. I'm still running the stock head unit which may have something to do with that. I mounted the tweeters in the stock brackets by removing the stock tweets and enlarging the hole to accommodate the new ones. The installation looks stock. The wire harness Crutchfield provided made wiring easy with no guess work.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I just installed these in an '02 Civic SI along with a set of Kicker coaxials and 2 Boston Acoustics 8's. The sound from these Kenwoods is surprisingly full for a seperate in this price range. They lack the low end of higher priced seperates, and in my opinion play a little on the bright side, but for the price and the simplified install due to inline crossovers, worth every penny. I would definitely recommend these to anyone looking for a good, clean, reasonably priced 6 1/2 component. Run them with a sub to even out the sound and you'll be satisfied. (by the way, they're powered by a rockford 500 4 channel rated at 67.5 watts/channel)

Good Value

Jeff from Kansas on 3/13/2010

I just installed these along with their smaller brethren, the P509PS's, in my '01 Neon. The sound produced by these with a decent 4 channel is really breathtaking. They replaced the factory door and dash speakers with a few minor tweaks. The only real problem I ran into with these is the length of wire from the tweeters to the main speakers. It wasn't long enough for the run from the factory dash location to the door speaker. So I ended up just splicing about 5" of wiring into them to get them to reach. Also, it's not really mentioned nor pictured, but the crossover is heatshrinked into the wiring run. Might be an issue for some, but I have been completely happy with these once installed.
