Kenwood KMM-108U
1997 Jeep Wrangler
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)
Works great with iPhone
Pros: Priced and quality
Cons:
Tired of those scratched-up CDs taking up space in your car? With Kenwood's KMM-108U digital media receiver, you can enjoy your entire digital music library without missing a beat. With no CD player to worry about, Kenwood's engineers were able to pack this receiver with everything you need to enjoy MP3, WMA, WAV, and FLAC files from a variety of devices. The compact "short-body" design will fit into almost any vehicle, too.
The compact chassis fits lots of applications
The KMM-108U works with all the latest gear, so you have lots of ways to enjoy your tunes. Got an iPod® or iPhone®? You can plug your player (with optional cable) into the front-panel USB input to enjoy Internet radio on Pandora, iHeartRadio, Aupeo! or TuneIt. Of course, you can also access the music stored in your device using the dedicated "search" and "return" buttons, plus you'll find handy tools like AppMode, Alphabet, Percentage Skip, and Related Search that help you find your music fast. The 13-digit LCD display makes it much easier to see song titles and channel information.
If you store your music on an Android device, Kenwood's Music Control app allows you to enjoy a variety of search and playback features when your phone is plugged into the front-panel USB. You can also plug in a thumb drive, or by jack another device into the front-panel AUX input. This versatile receiver plays MP3, WMA, WAV, and even FLAC files. Whatever you're playing, Kenwood's Drive EQ technology will compensate for wind and road noise to achieve maximum sound quality.
In most cars, you'll need an adapter to retain those controls with this car stereo. Connect a few wires, then program the adapter for your particular car and radio, and you'll retain the convenience of your steering wheel controls. You'll see the adapters that work with your vehicle when you add this receiver to your cart.
iPod/smartphone note: If you're going to use your iPod or smartphone with this receiver, be sure to check "Details" for compatibility information.
This marine digital media receiver will not play CDs.

Works great with iPhone
Pros: Priced and quality
Cons:
Can't go wrong with Kenwood!
Pros:
Cons:
Had to read the instruction manual with a magnifying glass but the installation went easily.
Pros: Sounds good
Cons: Bright red lighting is annoying at night.
Great features and sounds great
Pros:
Cons:
Nice unit, I would purchase again.
Pros:
Cons:
I purchased this as a direct replacement for an existing Kenwood that reached it's life expectancy. I was extremely pleased to see that my existing wiring harness and dash mount were exactly the same fitment. I've had several Kenwood products in the past and hope that this head unit will also live up to my expectations!
Pros: Detachable faceplate, multiple memory presets, easy installation, iHeart capable...
Cons: "Marine" water resistance remains to be seen...time will tell!
So far, this stereo is being excellent. It doesn't throw tantrums or become recalcitrant like my old stereo and I like the front panel layout more than the old, because the important buttons are larger. But nothing is perfect which is why it gets 4 out of 5. The settings you access through the volume knob could be less cluttered and better aligned for faster access to more commonly used features. I would liked to have a choice of a color other than red for the lighting of the knobs. I don't need a rainbow, but red, blue, and green would have been a good color range.
Pros: Works better than my old one which was the same price, but built with less quality - even for a brand name. Volume knob has soft click feel as you turn up or down, so you get some idea by feel alone how much volume is changing, especially between songs.
Cons: Programming menu for audio, display and setup could be better laid out for access. Red lighting only - should have at least one other alternative color choice.
Bought for my work car to upgrade the old head unit. Has all the features I was looking for at a good price.
Pros: Good sound, great features
Cons: Haven't found any yet but have only used for less than a week
Was disappointed that for the price this had no bluetooth, just assumed it was standard. Will remove it and put in my son's car when he buys one next month. That being said, sound is fantastic in my six speaker corolla. I found the key to balancing the sound was the feature that let you select what kind of speaker configuration you have in your vehicle...before setting that properly the sound was a bit thin. Read the instructions and make the proper adjustments. Highly recommend this unit if you do not need bluetooth. Love how it recognizes an iphone or ipod right away and remote makes it very easy to move around and select your music. Installation was very easy. Vastly improved sound over the factory stereo.
Pros: great sound customizable to your speaker configuration remote is best feature
Cons: no bluetooth
I really enjoy this product. Upon arrival, I realized I ordered the wrong one but, I choose to just use it anyway and it is fantastic!!
Pros: Easy install Easy to use
Cons: No bluetooth When it says made for Apple, it means made for apple
Works great for being in an old 1967 Ford farm truck.
Pros: It does the job for the price.
Cons:
After a few years without a radio in my car I figured it was time for a change. It came quick and I had it installed with no problems
Pros:
Cons:
Upgraded my 2003 Silverado factory radio with Bose system with this radio. Sounds better than factory and I can play music from USB and phone. Awesome prices and support.
Pros: Price, sound
Cons: None
Does everything I was expecting and easy to install
Pros:
Cons:
Great sound and easy to use.
Pros:
Cons:
$80 is still quite a bit of money. So I think it's fair to expect this head unit to not be so cheap looking... Flexible, flimsy, shiny plastic. Glaring bright red LEDs (the little LCD screen is dimmable, but the LEDs are not). Very low-tech LCD screen. The main 'pros' for me relate to USB drive abilities: -- Large USB drive support (some headunits only support 16 or 32 GB drives) -- Support for large numbers of folders on USB drive. This was big for me, since I like to keep my entire collection of music on one drive in the car, organized by artist folders with album subfolders (also other organizational folders like letters of the alphabet, etc). Some (Sony especially) only allow a small number of folders which limits organization. That's why I replaced the Sony DSX-A40UI I had before (which otherwise is remarkably similar-looking and sounding to this one). The Sony only supported 128 folders which might sound like a lot, but if you want your whole collection on one USB stick it's very limiting. -- No bluetooth. It seems that the bluetooth headunits have bluetooth on all the time (can't turn it off) which pumps out a lot of powerful RF into the cabin of the car at all times even if you don't have a bluetooth device paired to it. I'd rather avoid that (note to manufacturers: allow Bluetooth to be completely turned off). The specs on the components seem good, but my stock speakers are falling apart so I can't really comment on how good it sound
Pros: Supports large USB drives and large numbers of folders + files on USB drive. Specs for sound seem good.
Cons: Very cheap-looking shiny flimsy plastic, primitive LCD screen, twitchy control knob, bright glaring red LEDs can't be dimmed.
Excellent user friendly receiver, you can't beat the features and quality for the price.
Pros:
Cons:
I ordered and received a Kenwood KMM-108U receiver. I forgot to order the adapter kit for my 2003 Dodge Dakota. I called customer service and they sent one to me at no additional charge. Their instructions were spot on and the installation was a breeze. I must say, at first I was nervous about ripping my dash apart, but everything went smoothly. What a great experience and I saved a lot of $$. I will recommend Crutchfield to all my friends.
Pros:
Cons:
Really nice stereo for the money. Install was very easy in my opinion. I didn't use the included mounting sleeve as the brackets in my 1992 Toyota Land Cruiser bolted right on. The free install kit with den and wire harness was perfect. Two drawbacks so far with this stereo. First, there is not a USB Port in the back. I should have read the description closer, because my plan was to conceal a usb cable for my phone through the den I installed. Although the USB port in be face makes it easier for passengers to connect a different device, etc, so not really a big deal. Second, the menus are not as intuitive as I'd like, but it's not a smart device, it's a car stereo. Overall, I'm very pleased with this product and would recommend it for the money.
Pros: Easy installation. Couples easily with iPhone.
Cons: No rear mounted USB port
Great unit, only "flaw" was the wire insulation melted when I was using a heat gun to shrink insulation over the soldered joints.
Pros: Good sound, nice basic media ipod player
Cons: Wiring harness insulation melted with heat gun
For a basic (which is what I wanted) multimedia receiver, this is a nice piece. Once I went through the setups, it's fairly easy to operate. I do wish the display dimmed with the headlights, but for the price, I can't complain too much. It sounds really good in my Miata. (I also replaced the headrest speakers when I reworked the upholstery, so I didn't expect less, but I was not disappointed.) One positive aspect is that It has a removable face plate. I did not notice that when I purchased it.
Pros: Relatively easy to operate. Good sound. Removable face.
Cons: Lack of automatic dimming.
This is a great unit sound great great price and the easiest to install.
Pros: Price and installation
Cons: NONE
installed in 01 Wrangler. The actual Kenwood unit gets 5 starts for price to quality ratio. The only snag in the old stereo removal instructions is that it makes taking the old factory stereo out easy...it is not. Removing the security bolt in back of the old factory stereo is a pain.
Pros:
Cons:
Good overall head unit for the price. Buttons can be a little bigger. Only compliant is the remote can be touchy especially on the forward section.
Pros: Price, good fit
Cons: Remote, buttons
This is a great radio the only reason for not giving it 5stars is its lacking in Bass.
Pros: Good value
Cons: weak bass.
Great for the money
Pros:
Cons:
Very easy install with equipment provided. Great sound and features.
Pros: Massive amount of presets, day of the week on clock display, bluetooth
Cons: Red, wish I could get blue
Great media player, we have used 2 now in Harley-Davidson
Pros:
Cons:
Love every kenwood product I have ever had, this one is no exception. Great little stereo with a remote, usb, and aux port.
Pros:
Cons:
The Kenwood KMM-108U was easy to install, sounds and looks great. Actually looking to buy another one for my other Jeep.
Pros: Looks, Sound, Quality
Cons: use of USB port can be troublesome
Price was right. Delivery was quick. Install was a breeze.
Pros:
Cons: None
Great little receiver, fits perfect in my 2000 Dakota. Not a fan of CDs anymore so this is just perfect for me.
Pros:
Cons:
I am not a music or radio enthusiast. I wanted to update the original factory radio and speakers that came with my 2001 Nissan Altima at a reasonable price. This radio came with a 60 day free trial of Pandora which really drew me in. I have enjoyed having it and there are no complaints. I mainly use Pandora now and haven't listened to the radio since I got it. I can't say how easy it is to program the stations, set the clock, etc. I use an AUX cord to listen through my iPhone and I haven't tried listening to music thru the USB so I am not sure if that will work. It fit okay in my car's radio slot but, not perfectly. It hasn't been an issue and isn't really noticeable.
Pros:
Cons:
I bought this head unit based on several factors: I did not want to spend more than $100, looking for max RMS power (this unit has 21!!), USB connection, and remote control. Install was pretty easy considering this was my first time. Did make 1 call to Crutchfield and my problem was remedied in 30 seconds-- install was not working bc I left a plastic bracket around the stereo. Popped it off and everything went back into pace perfectly!
Pros: USB connection, 21 RMS max power, remote control
Cons: Challenging to set Bass, Mid, Treble, Loudness, etc. Not sure I have a better solution, but it seems like more work than necessary.
I bought this because it has the USB port, and thought it would play from the USB drive as well as a Panasonic CD/USB deck I got 5 years ago did. The same thumbdrive the Panasonic had no trouble shuffling randomly, in this deck, works as if there were only a few tunes on it. The manual says to get some windows software, Kenwood Music Editor. I hear the same tunes over and over, often the same sequences. If I select an album, not shuffling, it plays by alphabetical order, not track #, though every tune is tagged. What is this software anyway--spyware, digital rights management, big brother monitoring my music consumption? That was not advertised, and I don't have windows anyway.
Pros: Sound good, radio works. Has an AUX port, so I might as well just bring my MP3 player instead of bothering with the USB drive.
Cons: Poor USB performance, too complicated to select music manually when driving. I don't have or want windows, and don't want another computer program just to get the USB to work better, if that is what it does.
Great Sound for a Great Price!
Pros:
Cons:
Bought this deck to upgrade my daughter's 2002 Jeep Liberty. Great looking deck, easy installation (thanks to Crutchfield install kit and instructions), and excellent sound. My daughter loves the iPhone attachment via USB, even charges the phone. The color changing display is a nice touch and EQ Presets and Pro capability make adjusting the ranges real straight forward.
Pros: Ease of install, seamless look in dash, great quality for the $$.
Cons: None
This product is perfect for low budget people, like myself
Pros: Great sound great quality for a good price, comes with everything you need
Cons:
Very nice stereo for the money, sound quality is also excellent for the value, all around great little all digital media stereo.
Pros: Great value and ease of use
Cons: Display hard to read at the angle it's installed in my car but probably more auto manufacturer design flaw than it is the stereos fault.
About what you expect for the price.
Pros: Inexpensive, good sound, easy to use
Cons: Hard to press small controls, only one display color, no cd
Exceeded my expectations because the price point.
Pros:
Cons:
Awesome sound and quality
Pros: Easy to use, great sound with aftermarket speakers.
Cons: None
Stereo was easy to install and easy to use. You really get a lot for your money with this unit.
Pros: Easy to use and great sound
Cons: Can't change display color
Overall good product. Fairly easy install in my 02 Explorer.
Pros: Good sound For a stock product. Nice digital connection features to iPod etc. Nice remote option for the back seat user.
Cons: Can't change display color (other models can). It's a little complicated to change sound features. No mute button.
Fits my vehicle perfectly. Looks great. (Hope nobody steals it.) Many features I'll never use. (What's the remote for?)
Pros: Looks and sounds great. I will use the USB port. Well lighted. I like the USB port dust cover. All my HAM radio gear are Kenwood so I was happy Kenwood made a replacement in-dash radio that fit my vehicle.
Cons: Complicated. I just wanted a simple AM/FM radio maybe play a books-on-tape. Remote Control? No thanks. Pandora? No thanks. I Heart radio? No thanks. IPOD? No thanks. Probably great features for somebody else but not me.
This head unit fit like a glove into my 1989 Mercedes 300E. I was not expecting it to go in so easily. Combined with the wiring harness adapter, the installation took less than an hour to complete. The sound is far superior to the factory stereo and it sounds amazing! The iPod functionality is a dream, and changing songs by using the buttons on the deck is much safer than looking at an iPod if you are driving. A great value, I couldn`t be happier!
Pros:
Cons:
Went in easy, sounds great!
Pros:
Cons:
I bought this for my sons car, it was very easy to install and he loves it! Sound quality is Great, visual appearance of the stereo is awesome!
Pros: Easy to install, Great sound quality and nice visual appearance.
Cons: none
Like the fact that I could buy a stereo with out a player of some sort and save money while getting quality sound. I need to replace some other head units and will probably use this style of unit again.
Pros: Smaller size. Good sound quality.
Cons: Will not read thumb drive unless files are converted to mp3 format.
Does everything it says, no more and no less. Does the job good but does not amplify the sound as much as I would have though. Probably
Pros:
Cons:
This is a great unit for the money. If you're serious about upgrading your sound system you probably will want more. If you're just upgrading from factory though, this unit will blow you away.
Pros: Good sound quality for price range. Livens up speakers well compared to stock. Excellent price
Cons: It could use HD radio, more EQ bands, and Bluetooth, but that would completely blow away its price advantage. Not really anything to complain about....
Got everything I wanted out of the product, but the directions lacked one of the wiring connections that was specific to my car so I had to troubleshoot for longer than I should have
Pros: Quality, cheap, looks good
Cons: Remote is a little weak, wiring instructions lacked
For the money it is a nice unit.
Pros: Value, sounds great, easy to install, small package.
Cons: Red color only, volume knob looks cheap, no bluetooth
Wondering now why I waited so long. Wasted time and money with various iPhone/iPod adapters and this stereo is the right solution. Love the Pandora control and it definitely sounds much better. Crutchfield was easy to do business with and all of the installation components made the install a breeze. Super happy!
Pros:
Cons:
Excellent sound and ease of use
Pros: easy install
Cons: the volume button is recessed to far in. Making it hard to turn
Went in easy....only thing that tripped me out is if you have Keyless Entry, you need to keep the stock radio and connect it to the new radio and then hide it behind the center console...
Pros:
Cons:
Typical sound quality for a Kenwood, always one of my favorites. Compact size (depth) is a plus. My only complaint is that when scrolling through menus, the display changes much slower than the other units I own. You have to pause a second to see where you are in the menu tree. Just a little annoying.
Pros: Price, sound
Cons: display
very good unit love the display
Pros:
Cons:
This is my 3d Kenwood, but the first time I installed one myself. This fit a 2002 BMW 325i perfectly, with the recommended accessories from Crutchfield. I'm not an audiophile, but it sounds good to me & it works perfectly with my old iPod Nano. "Ease of Use" is not a 5-star only b/c there are many features I don't understand, but it's easy to use the basic functions.
Pros: Fits well in the car & sounds good.
Cons: More features than I need, but they don't inhibit its overall functionality.
Sounds great with no issues installing it. I would recommend it to friends
Pros:
Cons:
Great little head unit. Great function and sound for the cost.
Pros: Great looks. Functions are easy to use. USB and aux input are a bonus.
Cons: n/a
Great stereo, sound is there, had professionally installed.
Pros:
Cons:
First of all Crutchfield is awesome they come with everything you need to install this receiver without a professional. So I went ahead and installed it myself. Overall it's a great receiver that looks futuristic and the light is Ajustsble from brightness to dimming which is also nice. The sound is amazing compared to stock speakers and receiver. I installed some speakers for my front doors and some speakers for my rear deck also were both Crutchfield products. I love use Kenwood only because it's affordable and highly rated.
Pros: Install, coolness factor, easy to use.
Cons: Remote was useless, the wire was unable to look up to stock wire harness.
I purchased this unit looking for a cheap upgrade to my stock head unit. First off, the sound is amazing once you find the "sweet spot" with EQing it, the interface is easy to use, the radio quality isn't the best but I rarely ever use it,. Overall, if you are upgrading a stock head unit then this is an excellent product for you.
Pros: Easy to use AUX/USB sound quality Sub preamp Ipod/Iphone compatibility Clear text Detachable faceplate Sturdy design
Cons: Radio sound quality One color Remote control has to be aimed directly at the unit
I have used kenwood decks for years and have always been very pleased with Thier build quality. Sound quality is excellent, ease of use was excellent, and good options at a cut throat price. Will buy again
Pros: Quality through and through at a great price
Cons: Time will not display on screen
very good
Pros: good
Cons:
Easy to install, loud and clear sound, a big improvement over the factory system
Pros: Good instructions from Crutchfield team, Radiohead and new speakers made a huge difference in softop Wrangler
Cons: None
Sounds great, looks good, installed in a motorcycle batwing fairing.
Pros: Small compact, light, good visabilty on screen
Cons: Remote does not turn the receiver off.
I am really impressed with this stereo for the price. Menu interface is logical and easy once you've had a day to orient yourself, and the manual is very helpful in listing all of the menu areas and functions. USB feature works great with my thumbdrive, which is so much nicer than having a binder of cds in the car. Aux input transmits clean sound. Being able to set volume offsets between sources helps when switching between radio, aux and usb. Lightweight because of the lack of cd drive, but the build quality still feels as solid as my wife's more expensive Kenwood unit. Most units these days only seem to have a temporary clock mode or a small time display on a second line, but this unit can quickly and easily change between many display modes including a full-screen clock that stays on screen. Some small usability quirks I don't like: The up and down buttons are on shared button paddle pieces with the source and search buttons and while these buttons work ok they feel cheap and they press in with a clunky motion. In comparison all the other buttons have a nicer and more solid feel. For navigating the usb drive, the top button goes "up" the alphabetical list (a to z) and the bottom button goes down (z to a) however this is the opposite direction of how computers usually display these kind of lists (starting with a at the top). Just a needless and odd little quirk. Thankfully the dial can be used for file navigation and the "clockwise for a-to-z" makes more sense
Pros: Great value Has a full-time clock display mode in all input modes and in standby! USB mode remembers the song and position on my thumb drive if I've taken it out
Cons: Display is only one line No button and display color customization like on more expensive models USB slot is too close to AUX input and large thumbdrives can push on your input cord Small usability quirks (see review)
I literally installed this radio in the parking lot where I work in less than 10 minutes. Don't get me wrong, there was about 90 minutes of prep work the night before. I matched up the harness adapter to the wiring of the radio, soldered and heat shrinked, and then assembled the mounting bracket onto the radio. All that was left to do was pull the stock radio out and connect this one, which I did in approx. 10 mins. My stock radio was stubborn coming out, otherwise it would have only taken 5 minutes. Setting up the sound so it sounded good took another 10 mins or so. It was mostly trial and error finding the best settings. After that I plugged in a USB stick and the music was incredible. Being able to step through folders is liking having a massive selection at my fingertips. And the fact that it only cost 80 Dollars!!!!! Awesome to the MAX.
Pros: It's not a heavy radio. It plays loudly with good bass. 3 band tone controls, bass, mid, treble. Reads new folders from USB with simple button push. Well lit display. Several display options allow for choices. NO MOVING PARTS! Removable display is easy to come off and back on. Stays on last song played when ignition key shut off.
Cons: Doesn't hold the memory of the previous folder, always returns to song one.
Compared to the Chrysler radio you can see why this costs less than $100. It's cheap and light weight but the installation in my Jeep was pretty easy and the instructions were spot on. I really wanted something that would play from my iPhone 5c and all the alternatives that preserved my Chrysler radio were too expensive. So I opted for a total replacement. It fits the bill. Crutchfield does a good job with installation notes and provides all the bits & pieces you need to put this in. Installation took about an hour. Why is it that aftermarket radios always have such crummy knobs and try to make every knob do five functions.
Pros: cheap. decent sound. fits well and supports my iPhone 5c
Cons: light color not consistent with other dash lights. no dimming of lights. all the controls are too small. way too many "features" no one will ever use; it makes the controls way more complex than they need to be cheap build quality; it feels and looks cheap. It is.
It was easy to install, great sounds and look. The factory plug adapter was very helpful.
Pros:
Cons:
Great product, and because it was shorter in depth it made the install even easier.
Pros: Great sound and quality
Cons: No Bluetooth
I have had my Kenwood head unit for about a month now, and I don't know how I made it all that time with out it. It was very easy to install, and looks great! The service through crutchfield is always great, and made the experience of installing my new sound system even better.
Pros: It looks amazing, sounds good, and my cars rockin' every day now
Cons: It doesnt fit exactly into the space provided, but I believe that was a user error
Great product easy to install
Pros:
Cons:
Awesome stereo...exactly what I was looking for...easy to install!
Pros:
Cons:
very good product overall
Pros: has great sound quality built for ipod connection which is great
Cons: doesnt have front and reaer preamp outputs for a amp install only has sub preamp output
Im a kenwood fan. This is my 2nd time buying this deck. Perfect for a simple build with one sub since theres only one precut. Well worth the money.
Pros:
Cons:
You don't get Bluetooth but the sound quality for the price and the build is pretty good.
Pros: good sound quality and quality build
Cons: no bluetooth or card reader
Great upgrade from the factory stereo in my Jeep. The front USB plug made life allot easier when connecting our iPhone and USB drive. The sound quality is great and with the added power of this unit, there is plenty of volume, even with the top down.
Pros: Front USB
Cons: none
Kenwood Media Receiver KMM-108U
Pros: Excellent FM performance, better than the Factory Honda head, audio in from the smartphone and laptop works. Don't use usb except as a phone charger, can't comment on Pandora feature.
Cons: Subpar AM performance, especially on the lower AM band. The radio is almost completely blind of 5kw KLIF 570AM, and a struggle to hear AM 660, which has a 20kw daytime power. The Honda Insight has an 18" rubber duck, not a windshield antenna. I thought omission of the CD player Kenwood may design a better radio, well FM is better. I have a Blaupunkpt Orlando I purchased from the 90's from CF, I saved it from a vehicle I sold and installed it, superior AM reception compared to the Kenwood.
Great Head Unit for a 1993 GMC Pickup. Factory radio was pretty much dead, so this was a major improvement. Since I've owned Kenwood in the past, I pretty much knew what to expect. Plenty of power for the 4X6 Pioneer speakers I also purchased. I added boxed 6X9's behind the seat. I won't win any sound competitions, but I wasn't trying to! Install was pretty straight forward...removing the old unit was a bit of a pain. Crutchfield service (Customer and Tech) as always was top notch. Can't say enough good things about Crutchfield! The Master Sheet was SUPER helpful, as I had no idea the amp and Radio Control Unit were 2 separate pieces...in 2 different locations. I called Tech support for clarification on the antenna connection, only to find out the antenna cable had become disconnected from the amp (thus why I only got one radio station with factory unit), and had hidden itself in the dash panel under the steering wheel. Won't miss CDs, just plug in the iPod, hit random, and GO! Pleasantly surprised by the receiver section: great reception and little to no hiss/static/etc.
Pros: Easy to install, easy to use, and plenty of power for my application.
Cons: None for my application.
Nice working unit. So far it plays, works, looks great.
Pros: Does everything it is suppose to do well.
Cons:
Great radio over all for the price! Sounds good to me but I was not looking for a top notch radio just something to put in my 05 Camry . I thought the menu was easy to use once you learn how it works. Connects fine to my I phone the Pandora controls work great. I do not like how bright the keys are at night you can dim the radio display but from what i can tell not the keys, I would recommend it over all.
Pros: Price, simple install, would buy it again
Cons: Keys are bright at night, still needed a interface box to connect to my steering wheel the box was almost as much as the radio.
Good stereo but dosnt have good sound quality but for the price I paid can't really argue with it
Pros: Easy to connect looks good
Cons: Needs better sound quality
Nice upgrade to stock unit. Music sounds more clear and easy to install
Pros: Better sound quality, good head unit for price
Cons: Takes a short while to get used to
A fairly inexpensive yet feature packed aftermarket radio that's easy to install and sounds great. For anyone who's still running an old stock radio or tape deck and wants a sub $100 upgrade, this one's perfect. You'll lose the CD player but really you won't ever miss it after being able to play music from your MP3 player or phone via the USB and AUX ports.
Pros: - Very easy to install, especially with a factory plug adapter. - Inexpensive - USB and Flash Drive support - iPhone/iPod/iPad support for Apple fans - Sounds a million times better than my stock radio - Plenty of EQ adjustments to get it sounding right for your car
Cons: - No CD player (But who really needs those anymore anyway) - Settings are a bit clunky to navigate though but after everything is to your liking, the rest is quite straight forward and easy.
Awesome stereo, great sound and great price
Pros:
Cons:
the unit works fine although it is difficult to scroll thru the menus to change any of the settings such as balance, fader, bass, treble while driving. the ipod function works well. the front inputs are easy to use.
Pros: ipod connection on front is easy to use. radio reception seems to be better than the factory uniit. sound quality is better than the delco unit.
Cons: hard to adjust features if driving ie balance, fader, bass, treble for different types of music.
Easy install in my 97 land cruiser, sounds great, especially Flac files played through USB or my Sansa Clip+ played through the AUX 3.5 mini port. Good radio reception. Don't at all miss either cassette or cd player Thank you Kenwood for the product and the Crutchfield technical staff for the small bit of help and advice I needed.
Pros: FLAC, USB, Aux and small with excellent sound. especially with USB playing FLAC files. Sansa playing them through aux port almost as good and most people probably can't discern a difference?
Cons: USB file index structure not as nice or as fast to use as Sansa Clip+ ( a great little mp3 player) with Rockbox free software installed in it.

16 Bit D/A Converter: The Kenwood KMM-108U utilizes a 16-bit digital to analog converter for superior sound quality.
MOSFET Amplifier: The Kenwood KMM-108U is equipped with a MOSFET amplifier. Compared to conventional power supplies, the MOSFET amplification circuit is smaller and more efficient, and it delivers increased power with less distortion and absolutely zero on/off switching noise. More power means louder and cleaner music at higher volumes because you're not pushing the limits of the amplification circuit. The power output specs for the KMM-108U are as follows:
Selectable 2.5V Preamp Output: The KMM-108U features a 2.5-volt stereo preamp output that you can be adjusted from a full-range rear speaker preamp output to a low-pass subwoofer preamp output.
Subwoofer Controls: The Kenwood KMM-108U offers the following subwoofer controls, when you have the unit's subwoofer preamp output activated.
Speaker Settings: The Speaker Setting function tailors the head unit's audio settings according to the type of speakers in your vehicle. You may select a Speaker Setting of 'SP-Off' (flat/off), 'SP-OEM' (for OEM factory speaker systems), 'SP-6x9/6' (for systems with 6" and 6"x9" speakers), or 'SP-5/4' (for systems with 4" and 5" speakers).
Preset EQ: Eight EQ curves are preset into memory, allowing you to recall the best preset EQ curve for different types of music. Each preset has its own level settings for bass, midrange, and treble . You can choose from the following preset EQ curves; Rock, Pops, Easy, Top 40, Jazz, Natural, Drive EQ, or User. The Drive EQ mode is an EQ preset that helps reduce road noise. The User mode allows you to manually adjust the head unit's Bass (200Hz) , Midrange (2.5kHz), and Treble (12.5kHz) level from +/- 8dB.
Note: You can store bass, middle and treble tone settings for each source (AM/FM, Aux, USB, iPod, and Pandora/iHeartRadio).
Sound Enhancements: The head unit provides further sound enhancements for your car audio system.
Volume Offset: The level of each source may be independently adjusted to prevent radical leaps in output volume when switching from one source to another. The available settings range from -8 to 0 (-8 to +8 for Aux source).
Key Beep: The in-dash head unit provides an audible beep to confirm button operation. This function can be turned On or Off.
Detachable Face: The Kenwood KMM-108U features detachable face plate to deter theft. There is no protective face case included. An optional soft face case (142DFC1X, sold separately) can be purchased for this unit. A face-fixing screw is supplied for making the face non-detachable, if desired.
Single-Line LCD: The Kenwood head unit features a single-line, 13-segment, backlit LCD with white text and black background, plus red button illumination.
Note: This unit features a Demo mode which can be turned On or Off within the menu.
AM/FM Tuner: The Kenwood KMM-108U features a built-in AM/FM tuner. You can choose one of four tuning methods: Auto 1 (seek tuning), Auto 2 (cycles through and tunes the selected band's preset stations only with each button press), Manual Tune, or Direct Access (via remote). The KMM-108U's tuner features 3 FM banks (1, 2, 3) and 1 AM bank for storing presets. The Kenwood KMM-108U offers two preset modes.
Note: Not only does the digital media receiver's tuner allow you manually enter your desired presets you can choose to have the unit automatically put stations with good reception in the memory banks automatically; this is a handy feature when traveling.
Wireless Remote Control: The KMM-108U comes with an IR remote control (RC-406) for wireless operation of the head unit. The remote will control Audio, USB, iPod, and Tuner functions. It is powered by a single CR2025 3V lithium-cell battery (supplied).
Steering Wheel Remote Compatibility: The head unit features an OEM steering wheel remote control input wire (blue/yellow) within the included wiring harness that lets you keep your vehicle's factory radio steering wheel remote controls when used with an optional steering wheel audio control adapter (sold separately).

Replacing an existing Kenwood that just stopped working after six years or so. [ Brendan Aug 31, 2017 ]
Cheap, with USB on front [ Gordon Mar 17, 2017 ]
Kenwood is a reliable brand; Crutchfield is thee #1 spot to order electronic equipment from; the red light on the unit matches the kid's red truck. He is all into that. [ Lisa Oct 17, 2016 ]
I've always trusted Kenwood products. Buy one they last if you take care of them. [ Robert Sep 13, 2016 ]
Not sure exactly why i chose this device. It's cheap and has similar power ratings to other devices, so i went with the one that wasn't all space-shipped out i guess. [ Stephen Aug 15, 2016 ]
Had the options I liked for the right price. The options for my 1979 triumph are very limited, so I was really surprised the number of units I had to select from. Hoping this significantly improves the sound quality in my car! [ Vito Aug 14, 2016 ]
very good reviews, high RMS watts, under $100 [ Brian Aug 10, 2016 ]
Thought it would be a good receiver, tried it, reinstalled the factory radio, AM reception with the 2004 Honda Insight factory antenna was terrible. Reinstalled it in a Dodge minivan with a steel whip antenna and AM reception worked much better. [ ERIC Jul 15, 2016 ]
ipod support, good price, nice features. I also appreciate the lack of bluetooth connectivity. [ Lars Jun 09, 2016 ]
Best choice for what I am going to be using. [ Joseph May 27, 2016 ]
Have had several kenwood stereos they are great. [ Jesse May 24, 2016 ]

Has the features I need in a stereo without the extras that I do not need. Good price [ Anthony Mar 24, 2016 ]
Factory radio broke, needed cheap fix, found this at very good price. Kenwood produces good sound, and looks good. [ Maciej Jan 08, 2016 ]
Great system for a great price! [ Canaan Blake Jan 01, 2016 ]
My son picked this out for his Christmas present. i have always heard Crutchfield is a reliable company so I had no hesitation to order through them. also the two day free shipping to Illinois was an added bonus. [ Julie Dec 11, 2015 ]
I ordered the Kenwood Kmm-108U based upon price ($79) and that it is compatible with iPods and USB flash drives. I have a Ford F350 used for ranch work and rough roads alsong with dust. Not have a CD player is a plus in keeping dust out. The unit's depth is very shallow - due to the abscence of a CD drive. I like the Kenwood name. [ Stephen Dec 09, 2015 ]

The Kenwood KMM-108U is a digital media receiver, meaning that it does not play CDs. This model doesn't include built-in Bluetooth, however and there aren't any in-dash receivers we carry that would allow you to wirelessly transmit audio to Bluetooth speaker(s). I hope that helps. [ Larry Apr 15, 2016 ] Staff
Good question(s). I have a folder within a folder and it seems to play through just fine. As to the random order at different times all I can say is when I have used the random feature it is different each time. I cannot say to the limit of directories or to the type of format. I use medie player to create my sticks. [ TIM Jun 28, 2015 ]

His unit does play am and fm radio. [ DONALD May 03, 2015 ]
It is different in that it has no cd player but does have radio.. But, you shouldn't need a cd as you cab use your smart phone etc . I bought mine because it reads lossless Flac files and I have my music selection condensed on a hard drive in the flac format. I simply put the music I want to listen to on a USB stick and organize it with the free Kenwood organizer and plug it into I can get almost two hubdred cd's onto a 64 GB drive. The Unit has a good radio and amplifier and is much better than a cd player for me. [ TIM Mar 26, 2015 ]
I forwarded your question to an Advisor and they responded with the following: When you select random playback, it'll randomly play songs from the various folders. You wouldn't have to put all of the songs on one folder. If you would like to discuss further you can contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. Not sure I didn't motice wire for dimmer during install. Install was on work truck so wasn't that concerned with dimming. Can look at schematic if you would like [ Nick Jan 07, 2015 ]
via clock [ ALLICA J. Jan 06, 2015 ]
This unit has no provision for auto dimming as when headlights are turned on. You can set the display to auto dim level or you can control brightness manually level 0 thru 31. I don't see any wire in the circuit dedicated to sensing daylight/darkness. [ BAILEY`S AUTO Jan 06, 2015 ]
For details on fit or installation please contact an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They will be able to pull up your vehicle and give you the details on if this will fit and what you will need for an installation in your vehicle. [ Krissy Mar 26, 2014 ] Staff
