A marine receiver has to do more than just look good and sound great. It also has to stand up to salt, spray, sunlight, and rough weather. Kenwood designed their KMR-D358 CD receiver to withstand the rigors of boating life, with snug-fitting input covers and a conformal-coated circuit board that helps prevent moisture from seeping in and causing damage. These no-nonsense features keep the music playing, so you can relax and enjoy your time on the water.
The handy front-panel USB input does more than just let you plug in a thumb drive and enjoy a playlist. When you connect a compatible phone, you can enjoy your favorite music in a variety of ways.
With a connected iPhone, 3G service, and AppMode, you can tune in your favorite Pandora®, iHeart Radio, Aupeo, or TuneIn Internet radio stations while you're on the water. And when you're listening to the music stored on your player, Kenwood's made finding the right tunes easy with dedicated "search" and "return" buttons, plus handy tools like "Alphabet," "% Skip," and "Related Search."
Android users can download the free Kenwood Music Control app and enjoy lots of great features. Organize playlists, sort songs according to "mood," and take advantage of quick and easy search capability on the Kenwood CD receiver. You can search by genre, song title, artist name, or record label, and all that info will be displayed on the receiver.
The 13-digit, 1-1/2 line LCD display makes it easier to see what's playing, and variable color illumination means you'll see it in your favorite hue. If you're installing the KMR-D358 in an out-of-the-way spot, a Kenwood marine remote (not included) allows you to control it from the helm.
If you're a satellite radio fan, add a SiriusXM tuner (subscription required) to enjoy all your favorite music, sports, and talk, even when you're miles and miles offshore. You can also liven up your cruise by loading in a CD full of MP3 or WMA music files, plugging in a thumb drive, or by jacking another device into the front-panel aux input. You can use the 3-band equalizer to optimize audio performance, while the three sets of preamp outputs come in handy if you want to add amps and subs to your boat.
Installation note: This marine radio is water-resistant, but we recommend mounting it in a water-resistant enclosure or using a cover for best performance.
iPod/smartphone note: If you're going to use your iPod or smartphone with this receiver, be sure to check "Details" for compatibility information.

Average Customer Review(s):
Great product. Sounds good and was easy to install.
Great stereo nice set up works good in outdoor situations
I installed the Kenwood KMR-D358 in my Ebbtide 21' boat, and the installation was very easy. I chose this model since the dimensions were almost identical to the "old" Kenwood stero I was replacing.
Pros: Excellent sound from this system, and I love all the extra options the device has. Enjoy watching the display change colors some 24 times. That's neat. Also like the fact it powers "off" after 20 minutes in Standby mode.
Cons: Can't think of any.............
Easy to install, sounds great, and the price was very affordable. Great replacement stereo.
Pros: Great sound, great price, lots of features. Sounds much better than stock.
Cons: Cant complain. Cold beer, great tunes, sunny days on the lake!
First, 5 Stars for Crutchfield! Product arrived w/in 16 hours of ordering (or would have if UPS would just leave pkgs. w/o signature. Had to chase driver down at the end of his route in the evening. No fault Crutchfield.) As for the Kenwood, a reluctant 4 stars. Only because it does everything I could possibly want, and actually more than I care for making it a bit cumbersome, except one thing. Show me what it's doing. I'd read multiple reviews saying the display's daylight readability was terrible but thought, "Oh, I can just put a hand over it to see when I need to adjust something." Negative. Worst Display Ever! Impossible to see even with both hands cupped around face and eyes an inch away from the faceplate in daylight. I haven't done more than play it briefly a few times yet but will have to figure out a workaround for anything other than night fishing trips. Kenwood really dropped the ball on this one. If they came out with a replacement faceplate in exchange I'd be delighted. (Not holding my breath!) Have always had good experience with Kenwood units in the past (cars) but this one's a deal-breaker. Unless you plan to use this unit in the dark, forget it and any other Kenwood that has a like display.
Pros: All the features I wanted and more for a decent price.
Cons: Worst display Ever. Useless except in the dark.
Product was just as advertized
Simple not complex.
Very nice product, easy to install, operates and sounds great.
Pros: Removable face
For an outdoor marine radio, the display is nearly impossible to read in sunshine. I've had the Brightness at the maximum value of 31 and tried different colors without any improvement
Pros: Price, handles many different kinds of input.
Cons: Display impossible to read in sunlight
Very good replacement for the original radio in my boat. Very easy to install. Good sound.
Pros: Great price, easy to install,. good sound.
Great radio at a great price love the options on it
Cons: Could have more of the sirius options
Bought this stereo for a golf cart wanting a water and element resistant unit. All works fine, but when driving while playing a CD, the CD with "skip". I thought since this unit was for marine use, it would be able to handle rough conditions better when playing CDs. Otherwise, the unit is nice and sounds good.
Pros: Unit sounds good and is easy to use.
Cons: CDs don't play under semi-rough conditions.
Wanted a water resistant radio for our soft top Wrangler and this was perfect! Haven't used it much bet did a thorough test with all options, CD player, USB inputs, aux and everything works perfect. Hope to get years of service for our top down rides and Jeep weekends!! As always, great help and service from Crutchfield! Took me about 30 minutes to get it in and running!!!
Pros: Weather resistance, great sound, easy buttons.
Cons: None yet.
Stereo has plenty of power and great options! Can't wait to hook up the subwoofer and better speakers! Hard to see in bright sun.
Pros: Price, Quality
Cons: Hard to see in bright sun.
Fairly straight install and replacement for existing Kenwood unit, which had received water damage to circuit board. This unit installed in the exact same size opening and mount as the previous unit. I now have access to my IPOD music library which was not accessible with the earlier model. Sound quality is excellent. Wish the controls were better lit 0 the only negative about an otherwise great unit.
Cons: Back lighting could be better.
This is a great stereo! Mounted in my center console fishing boat and i couldn't be happier with it's performance!
Pros: Plenty of power, ipod usb jack, and pandora enabled.
Cons: I don't have anything wrong with it at all. Very simple to hook up and my boat sounds great!
Installed in Polaris RZR worksgreat, no CD skipping or station fading
Can't beet the price and the features. always a Kenwood fane but this is alot in a small package. Powering 4 Infinity speakers and everyone who has heard it keeps asking where the amp is. Great marine combo for under $400 all from Crutchfield.
Pros: Great for the money
The D538 has great sound and features. I am very pleased with this unit. Easy to use controls and navigate easy through user friendly settings. Built in amp rocks! Crisp and clear sound at all range and even at its highest volume. Ability to play iTunes or Pandora from iPhone and keep phone charged with USB on faceplate is a big plus. A solid 5 Star boat receiver!
Pros: Wired remote works great with this unit. (FYI: will not turn the unit on or off) Display color can be changed. Cover for CD on faceplate.
Cons: No wireless remote control and the ("not supplied for KMR-D358" as stated on page 3 of the manual) RC-406 DOES NOT WORK with this radio. I have two wired marine remotes (KCA-RC35MR) and they work great. I wanted a wireless remote for use inside the boat but they don't work! I had the same issue with the KMR-355U. The manual should really say ("NOT SUPPORTED WITH KMR-D358") & "NOT SUPPORTED WITH KMR-355U" either!!

MOSFET Amplifier: The Kenwood KMR-D358 is equipped with a MOSFET amplifier. Compared to conventional power supplies, the MOSFET amplification circuit is smaller and more efficient, and it delivers increased power with less distortion and absolutely zero on/off switching noise. 6ch/2.5V Preamp Outputs: The KMR-D358 features front, rear and subwoofer 2.5-volt preamp outputs. The front and rear speaker preamp outputs are balance and fade adjustable. Preset EQ: Eight EQ curves are preset into memory, allowing you to recall the best preset EQ curve for different types of music. Each preset has its own level settings for bass, midrange, and treble . You can choose from the following preset EQ curves; Rock, Pops, Easy, Top 40, Jazz, Natural, Drive EQ, or User. The Drive EQ mode is an EQ preset that helps reduce road noise. The User mode allows you to manually adjust the head unit's Bass (200Hz) , Midrange (2.5kHz), and Treble (12.5kHz) level from +/- 8dB.
Note: You can store bass, middle and treble tone settings for each source (CD, AM/FM, Aux, USB, iPod, and Pandora/iHeart Radio).
Sound Enhancements: The head unit provides further sound enhancements for your car audio system.
Volume Offset: The level of each source may be independently adjusted to prevent radical leaps in output volume when switching from one source to another. The available settings range from -8 to 0 (-8 to +8 for Aux source).
Key Beep: The in-dash head unit provides an audible beep to confirm button operation. This function can be turned On or Off.

Sorry no awareness of the referenced remote [ Michael May 10, 2015 ]
Not familiar with the referenced remote. It does appear that it has a hard plug to the referenced head unit. For my install of the KMR-D358 I after the fact purchased the Kenwood KCA-RC35MR Remote for KMR700U/550U/350U. The connections were like power and one or two wires from head unit. No dedicated cord like was on my previous clarion head unit. Hope this helps. [ Michael Mar 25, 2015 ]
I won't be much help...installed mine in a boat....super crisp sound though!!!! [ patrick Jul 26, 2014 ]
The radio is slightly more than 6-inches deep inside dash [ Michael Jul 26, 2014 ]
That would be close, I put mine in an electra glide Harley. it sticks out about .250 of an inch, the rest sits back into the dash and behind, there should be dimensions for the stereo, the length or depth? just take off .250 of an inch and thats what you will have going through the dash and into the area under, behind the dash. hope that helps, my cd skips, but it's in a harley. Mark McCollough [ Mark Jul 25, 2014 ]
I had it in an 83 cj7 but the back his the defrost duct work.So it may not work for that [ JUSTIN Jul 25, 2014 ]
Yes, it can be used in car stereo applications. [ ARTHUR G. Jul 21, 2014 ]
Sure, it is a standard single din install. [ James Jul 21, 2014 ]
Yes I installed it in 2002 jeep with marine speakers . This is one of this clearest soundiing radio's I have heard. [ STEVEN P Jul 21, 2014 ]
All of the connections are standard the main difference is that the circuit board is coated to handle moisture without corrosion for a car I would recommend blue tooth as well [ WILLIAM J Jul 20, 2014 ]
Yes it will work. Probably a good idea for something like a jeep. [ CHRISTOPHER Jul 20, 2014 ]
Absolutely! I have one in my golf cart, boat and vehicle. both the golf cart and boat see salt water service and have worked beautifully. Just a heads up, there is no remote control with this unit, only the car ones have that. [ Kent Jul 20, 2014 ]
Yes.. Works just as car stereo. [ ANTHONY M Jul 20, 2014 ]
Absolutely, I used mine for a Polaris RZR and I'm getting another for my shop. [ CASEY Jul 20, 2014 ]

The term "waterproof" probably isn't appropriate. The circuitry is protected with a coating to make it resistant to moisture/condensation, etc. - the kind of things electronics would be subject to when stored and used outdoors. If a cup of water were poured on the radio I not sure it would completely be protected. [ Wayne Feb 20, 2014 ]
Don't know yet as I have not installed [ LARRY Feb 17, 2014 ]
Maybe units are not water proof. They are resistant. You should use a marine cover for more protection. [ Tim Feb 17, 2014 ]
