Overview

Our take on the Kenwood KDC-MP345U

Kenwood's KDC-MP345U CD receiver gives you iPod® control through its USB input, but that's just the beginning of the story for this solid performer.

Kenwood's KDC-MP345U CD receiver gives you iPod® control through its USB input, but that's just the beginning of the story for this solid performer.

Easy to use with your iPod
You'll feel totally at home when you plug in your iPod. Connect it to the front panel USB input, then take control with the Multi Control Wheel to navigate your tracks and playlists. You can search for a song alphabetically, or by jumping through your playlists in 10% increments. Kenwood includes dedicated "Search" and "Return" keys that eliminate the need to work through menus when you're making a quick search. Your passengers can also use the iPod's controls to access songs, or they can take advantage of the full-featured remote control that Kenwood includes with this receiver.

Musical and expansion options
The KDC-MP345U plays CDs you've loaded with MP3 and WMA files, and features a handy front-panel auxiliary input you can use for other music sources. Kenwood's robust internal amplifier, flexible 3-band equalizer, and bass boost ensure you'll like the sound. Two sets of preamp outputs let you add outboard amplifiers, and you can activate a low-pass filter and sub level control for fingertip command over your bass.

Note: If you're going to use your iPod with this receiver, be sure to check "Details" for specific iPod model compatibility with this receiver or its optional iPod adapter.

Pros: Aux and USB options and great wattage output to HI midst

    Cons:

    Buy a newer unit.

    lkj from SoCal on 4/4/2012

I will keep it short: you should buy a newer unit than this one.

Pros: Front USB connection. Apple Nano/iPod compatible. Plays burned CDs w/ mp3 format.

Cons: AM radio reception very susceptible to noise from above-ground power lines and also the running engine. The stock radio that came with the car did NOT have that problem. No mute button. Had to re-flash the unit several times b/c of iPod interface problems.

    Great buy

I have been very pleased and impressed with the KW-MP345U. It is actually my first after-market system in the last 20 years. This is a great value for the money, produces a lot of sound, easily installed, and the navigation is pretty simple. I just wish they had made it to where you could display the clock and the source at the same time. Otherwise, I find no faults with the unit.

When my radio works it works great however when I get in my car and it's hot outside so the car feels pretty hot the radio does not turn on until I turn on my air for awhile. If my heat is on after awhile the radio turns off. Crutchfield replace the radio but the new one does it also which makes me think it's something else but I have no idea what to look at next. I gave it 5 stars because when it does work it works great, sounds great and I love having the usb and aux plugins.

For the price, I challenge you to find a better head unit. This is my first experience with anything Kenwood and definitely won't be my last. Nice search features when using USB or Ipod. 22 watts RMS which is higher than most. Two things I would add to this unit if I could: 1. A dimmer that ties into the instrument panel's dimmer. 2. Ability to read song data from radio stations. Overall very happy and I would recommend this to anybody.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Good sound, easy installation in a 2001 Subaru, but the bezel can not be used & trimming it won't work because both sides would have to be shaved down to paper width. Also, the receiver allows only some iPods to retain tuning control, which leaves you with tuning through the stereo---a slower & more cumbersome technique.

This receiver was an excellent value for the price! Right from the beginning, the sound quality over my older Sony receiver was apparent, and the unit felt like it was made with more care and appreciation for the consumer. The bass boost, paired with a new set of speakers I had installed previously was pretty killer without a subwoofer. Also, directly connecting my iPhone 3GS was a snap, and it is possible to change music with either the receiver or the iPhone itself, which was a MUST for me. My only complaint is the lack of color variations and only being able to change the brightness via two different options. I guess I cannot complain too much, because of the bargain price :). The low price, great sound quality and Crutchfield's great customer service made for a great (and simple) switch. Thanks!

I've never purchased any car audio equipment in my life, so my experience with other pieces of equipment is very limited. I went with Kenwood because of all the good things I've heard about them from various sources, and their RMS of 22W was higher than other company's 17 or 20W RMS ratings. As a complete novice it took me a little over an hour to install the headunit in my garage. It was very simple on a Ford Mustang. As far as sound quality goes, there was a definite improvement from the stock headunit, but you must use all of the settings and options correctly. However, I was not blown away by the improvement and will be replacing all my speakers soon, most likely with Kickers. In other words, this headunit sounds so good, I could really tell how much my speakers were limiting the overall sound.

I upgraded the OEM Blaupunkt head unit in my 2003 Focus because I wanted the flexibility of multiple inputs. The price was right and with the included installation kit, so was the fit. Added to the previously installed Kenwood KFC-1693PS speakers- the sound is great, not crazy loud, but tonally correct, with precise mids and highs. I mostly listen to live jambands downloaded in FLAC and the USB input has far exceeded my expectations. I'm still working through the various adjustments, but so far so good...

Love the receiver, but, seeing that I drive my convertable to the beach, I wish Kenwood would come up with a dust cover for when the faceplate is removed. How about suggesting to them to have a dark black cover that snaps in the same as the faceplate, no logo so to keep individuals with crowbars from taking a second look. Convertable owners would appreciate this, especially on windy, or beach days, when you just don't want to put up the top every time you park for a few minutes. Sand & humidity don't mix with electrical contacts.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was disappointed when the BRQ 6-CD changer died in my 2005 Jeep Liberty after replacing the battery. Now, why should something like a changer quit after the battery was replaced? No, it was not a radio code and no one at any Mopar dealer I called could offer any help. I ended up browsing on Crutchfield's web site and they made it easy to search for a stereo that would fit into the trim package on my Liberty. Right away I found this Kenwood and the price was great. It also played MP3 CD's and MP3's on a flash drive. Perfect. I expected to have to make my own bezel to adapt the Kenwood to the Jeep. I was blown away when it came a few days later with a matching black bezel, Master Sheet and Harness. The harness took about 10 minutes to solder to the Kenwood harness and that plugged right into the Jeeps existing harness. I actually did the whole job in less than 1/2 hour including removing the old radio, etc. The Bezel fit the Kenwood and the Jeep perfectly and looks great. I am now happy that the factory changer died. This was a totally pleasant experience and fun to install (did I actually say "fun"!). The Kenwood's sound is awesome and the features are amazing. The remote is great and I love being able to play music off a flashdrive. I would not even bother with an Ipod. The receiver is really configurable and lets you tweak everything. It sounds soooo much better than my factor changer. I am now a Crutchfield believer!!!

Very happy with this unit except for AM reception which is NONEXISTENT! Wish I had known this before purchasing so I could have bought another unit. Very disappointed. We listen to AM radio for a 24 hour news/weather/traffic station (nothing similar on FM) that we need to listen to as we spend most of the day on the road. The other features are great but I really wish I had done more research and gotten something else. Am removing this one and looking for something with better AM reception. Too bad that I will have to pay again for installation, which was a headache.

What an incredible bargain. Install was a breeze as usual thanks to the install kit (included, even at the sale price). I paid $10 extra and bought the two 6.5" speakers...they are Kenwood as well. The best part about this stereo is the ability to control your iPod either through the stereo/remote controls OR utilize the iPod simply by pressing one of the buttons on the face of the stereo. Why is this so important?? 1) It gives your passenger a chance to flip through the iPod and control from their seat without having to reach across. 2) With the free Sirius/XM app on my iPhone, I can now listen to satellite radio through the iPod attachment without having to purchase a separate sattelite module. Awesome product for an incredible price...buy it NOW!

I was highly impressed with this new head unit! I know and hear high marks towards Kenwood and their car accessories. This model after-market replacement for my 2000 Toyota Camry stock head unit was the perfect choice. I have a Kicker system and a Sound Ordinance b-24 sub, and it turns my music experience into something remarkable! I love this head unit because it gives off more clarity and smoothness to my system, as well as amazing options to make me have what I'm looking for. It is also built with the power to be completely compatible with iPod and iPhone! If you are looking to replace or upgrade your stock head unit, or just want a new head unit without the crazy prices, this is perfect for you! Also, I am shocked at the people who say that during the day the display it is too dim, and during the night it is too bright. The display was perfect during the day, and during the night! Not too bright, but not too dim. A 5 star product!

This stereo is perfect for my needs. My old Alpine worked fine, but it was so old there was no way to add an AUX IN and I wanted to be able to take my audiobook with me in the car. I do not need a stereo that drowns out the music of every other stereo within 100 yards, so if that's what you want I don't know if this stereo will do it. But for my needs - to listen to audiobooks, classical & new age music, and the occassional opera - this is perfect.

Good value. Used the Crutchfield installation kit with no problems. Only drawback to unit is no separate power source for power antenna. Therefore, power antenna hooked into amplifier power supply. That means antenna always up when unit is on. More expensive units have a separate ant. power supply, so antenna only goes up when tuner on. If you do not have a power antenna, no problem.

I bought the Kenwood KDC-MP345U to replace a dead factory CD receiver in my 2000 F-150. Not only did I get a functioning CD player and better sound but added all the latest iPod controls too. The unit sounds great. Controls were a bit intimidating at first but the learning curve was pretty easy. The display colors aren't as garish as some so it looks good in the dash and the installation kit added a pocket that's very convenient for holding an attached iPod. On the negative side, the installation kit for my truck wasn't exactly right but the Crutchfield tech support team helped me figure out an alternative that worked great. Removing the face doesn't always work smoothly. Great support, great sound, one day shipping. I'll be buying another for my other car soon.

With the excellent hardware and instructions provided by Crutchfield, this installation would normally be a breeze, even for someone like me who isn't super confident in their abilities. The only problem I had was getting the new radio into the dash. Removal and wiring was a easy as can be. VW isn't known for leaving you with extra wiggle room for ANYTHING, and the radio is no exception. I tried removing other parts of my dash to be able to get to the back of the radio with no luck. Nothing I tried was working, so I decided to take the unit out again and remove all the caps I put the wires together with (except for the ignition, ground, and constant power lines). In other words, all speaker wires just got twisted and wrapped with electrical tape. After that it was butter. If I would have taken the time to find smaller caps, I may not have had a single issue, and I would have had everything done in 45 minutes, from unpacking everything to listening to the new radio. Doing it my way, though, took me about 2.5 hours. So my advice: find the absolute smallest wire caps you can find if you're installing in a Beetle. Otherwise, everything went very smoothly, and the radio sounds phenomenal! I bought Kenwood speakers to go with this radio, but ran out of time today to install those, but even with my existing speakers the unit is a huge improvement. I'll try and update this once the speakers are in.

My old factory CD player would work most of the time, and when it wouldn't, I used the tape deck. Yes... I still have cassette tapes. And it didn't play CD-Rs very well at all. So i finally bought a new CD receiver, this one. It was a very good price I thought and it had some good features. The iPod USB hook-up is nice. After getting the harness adapter ready, provided free from Crutchfield, the actual installation was super easy and quick. And the sound quality is amazing with my original speakers compared to my old system. The remote is nice, and most of the features seem to be easy to access. So far this receiver is not missing anything I need and is easy to operate. I love it and it sounds great.

My expectations were simple. I wanted to replace my factory car stereo with one that I could plug my mp3 player into, but not specifically an ipod, as my player is not an ipod. This unit works great for my purposes. I don't even use my mp3 player now, but an 8gb thumb drive. If you load your music to your external media using Windows Media Player or Winamp, the search feature of this stereo works just like it would for an ipod. The installation was fast and easy. Crutchfield provided everything I needed. Installation took less than an hour.

All I can say is Wow. I ordered a stereo and 4 speakers for my car. I got all the brackets and cables to go with it, complete with all the instructions for putting the items in the car. I figured something wouldn't go right such as something missed, but that was not the case. I have installed a car stereo back in 1988 in a 1978 Cutlass Supreme and let me tell you, I took alot of trips to the auto store trying to make up for what I didn't have. Crutchfield provided everything except the wire nuts and panel removal tool, which I got at a very low cost. Went home and didn't have to go anywhere else till the job was done. They made me feel like an expert. Thanks Crutchfield.com.

The radio is a joy to have. I use the usb port for my music from my computer - sounds great. I use the Aux port for my XM radio - no more transmission problem with the FM radio method. The FM radio does well. The radio looks good. I would recommend it. Before this unit, I had another Kenwood radio so the installation was basically plug and play once I had access to the old one. Installation info was included with the radio and any special plugs that might be needed. I only needed a screw driver. I will definitely use Crutchfield in the future.

The installation was easy. Whether by chance or design the wire colors of the factory and Crutchfield supplied harness adapters were the same. i bought this head unit about two weeks ago to replace my factory stereo in my '96 honda accord. The factory unit wasn't allowing me to use my ipod adapter anymore so i decided to just upgrade the whole head unit. i was looking for something that could play both my ipod touch as well as pandora on my droid...this stereo does both. i also did the install myself, which i had never done before. stereo shops and best buy wanted $80+ to install it. through the install guide from crutchfield and the internet, you can do the install yourself. i also liked how crutchfield includes basically everything you need to install it yourself. the new stereo makes my speakers sound wayyy better. i'm still getting used to controlling the ipod through the knobs on the stereo, but you don't need to use this option if you don't want to. all in all, i couldn't be happier with this purchase.

The sound difference was night and day plus the ability to control my Ipod was just plain awesome! What really surprised me was the instructions that were included with the package deal. Since my Insight was a very low volume car, I never imagined that the included instructions would amount to anything, but I was pleasantly wrong. I thought that buying a better head unit would at least help the problem if not fix it, I was wrong. This Kenwood Mp345U is actually WORSE at shutting off at loud, deep, bass. It's a lot worse. I can't use this head unit at all in my car and ended up re-installing my old JVC, at least it can work up to about 85% volume WITH bass boost. The Mp345U can not be used past 50% volume in my car. I expected A LOT MORE out of a name like Kenwood and was very disappointed.

This Kenwood cassette receiver was very easy to install into our 2000 Toyota Sienna, thanks in part to the superb directions from Crutchfield and exact fit with the added pocket to fill the 2 DIN slot after removing our OEM receiver. I had a little trepidation in terms of connecting wires to the specific wire harness, but paper directions answered for every color, and as well for several wires that were not used. The harness plugged in perfectly to the Toyota connectors. As for the receiver itself; the CD player plays beautifully with CD copies that I make on the computer both mp3 and wma files. CDs load quickly, which appear to be a complaint with some other receivers on the market. Additionally its really enjoyable to be able to take a flashdrive with mp3's and have them play just by putting the drive into the front USB socket. I haven't fumbled around yet to locate specific files, but from other reviews have heard that it can be somewhat frustrating. One should try to append their reviews of the product in 6 months perhaps. It takes a little time getting to use the controls, but after only a few times fiddling it almost seems pretty normal and pretty logical, and there is a clock. Overrall I'm very pleased with it, including tuner sensitivity, and excellent sound.

This radio is amazing! im a teenager without a job so as usual i wanted to save some money, so i decided to install it myself. with no experience in anything like this i was hoping that the manual would guide me through it. well it did, there were a few times where i didn't understand what i was supposed to do(probably because i have no experience) but finally got it. i have a 2003 pontiac vibe and the whole kit and everything fit perfect. the radio and everything looks very clean after installation. i heard that the new software for the ipod touch(4.2.1) doesnt work so i was a little worried until i heard music begin playing from my playlist about 5 sec after i plugged it in. the ipod controls are nice and it sounds really good. the unit sounds great and really amplified my sound to where i could have it turned to 5/35 and it was loud enough and then if i wanted to blast it there was no need to go over 15/35. i still have my factory speakers in and im fine with them for now because this radio was big enough of an upgrade for sound

I was looking for an inexpensive stereo receiver that had a front input jack, as I have a portable Sirius receiver and of course an iPod (or three). I wasn't looking to spend a lot of money or go top-of-the-line, as I'm installing this unit in my '99 Silverado that I only drive occasionaly. The Kenwood KDC-MP345U is a fantastic unit, with front 1/8" jack input, front USB input and full iPod controls. The KDC-MP345U is a great sounding, easy to use, inexpensive deck that I would recommend to anybody looking for such features, in a ggod-looking package.

I bought this stereo a year and a half ago. While I initially gave it 5 stars and a stellar review, I have since run into a few issues. I have a 160gb ipod and the stereo can't handle it sometimes, going out of USB mode and restarting my ipod. With other ipods like the ipod touch and iphone, I have run into problems initially connecting it to the stereo. Sometimes it won't connect at all and I have to repeatedly connect and disconnect it until it finds its "happy place." Furthermore, the radio does not get very good reception at all, I only seem to get a few channels. Its great to go in and out of "hands free" mode, which will let me use the ipods features through either the stereo or directly on the ipod. I love that. Make sure it is compatible with the speakers, because I have had the unit go into "protect mode" on numerous occasions with not solution as to the cause. In conclusion, i might just have bad luck, but it is still a great unit for the price, and also looks really cool.

This unit looks good, sounds good, and has alot of fun features. My ONLY complaint is the fact that the clock will only display when the unit is actually turned on. So if you don't feel like listening to music right then, your only option is to just turn the volume down the whole way, unless you want your clock to disappear. Not a deal breaker, but it would be nice if it were noted as such in the literature!

...in a 2002 Ford Focus ZX5... This unit has a lot of power for just being a replacement head unit. Sounds great with my factory speakers. I hope to upgrade those in the spring. I bought this mostly because I've bought Kenwood in the past and they have never let me down. I wanted a way to play tracks off my ipod touch that didn't involve a fm modulator or just a headphone jack. I like the "hands off" feature, where you select tracks thru the head unit. With the kits and wiring harness that Crutchfield provides, it couldn't have been any easier. I think it took me maybe half an hour to complete. The unit itself sounds great with the stock speakers, and my daughter uses the USB port with her smartphone and is able to plug her ipod directly to the unit. The wiring harness was useless, and it took HOURS to remove the old stereo and install the new one. Did not fit, was not compatible, had to individually solder the wires and screw the thing in place. Worked well once jury rigged in there, but the fit still is not quite right, I now have scratch marks on my dash from trying to get the old one out and had I known it would be this much of a headache I never would have bothered and bought something else instead.

This is a great stereo for the money, with great iPod/iPhone connectivity. What I was most pleased with was the ease of installation and most of all, the fit. I installed it into a Honda S2000, and was warned up front that it would not likely be a factory fit, the trim ring wouldn't fit (leaving a gap), and the face plate would have to be removed to close the factory stereo cover-door. To my surprise, the unit fit perfectly, along with the trim ring (no gaps) and the ability to close the factory stereo cover-door with the faceplate attached! It actually took longer to splice together the wiring harness adapter than it did to complete the entire installation. I am a loyal Crutchfield customer, and things like this will keep me coming back!

This is an ok receiver. Install was semi easy. I really dont like the usb drive interface(the sole reason i bought it). Having to press the button each time to progress through every folder then having to wait for the info to be displayed its just a big pain, or maybe i just dont know know to use it correctly. i could use an ipod with it, but ive also given up on those pieces of junk. I dont think its as loud as my factory system was, just doesn't sound as clear. When the sun hits the faceplate forget about seeing anything on it, the blue lettering just disappears. The install kit that came with it was cheap and had some weird space made into it, why not just put the receiver hole in the middle? I will be removing it and replacing the factory 6 disc when the weather warms up.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The major features that swayed me to this model were the USB inputs, the aux inputs, and Kenwood's reputation for quality products. Installation was easy due to good documentation provided by Kenwood and Crutchfield. I ended up NOT using the dash installation kit since the factory mount worked perfectly with the new Kenwood. I did use the Crutchfield supplied wiring harness, though a fair amount of soldering is required to make all connections. I was able to get everything working without any problems on the first try. The new Kenwood works perfectly and the sound improvement was instantly noticeable. I plugged in my iPod Nano (third generation), it was recognized immediately and started playing through my playlists. Same with a USB flash drive. The Kenwood does a quick scan of the media and starts playing. The remote control is easy to use and the buttons are well marked. Most of the front panel controls are intuitive, though I do keep the manual nearby. I should note the bass boost is set by default from the factory and I had to change that setting to flat response since both doors would rattle with the excessive bass. The Kenwood plays noticeably louder than the factory stereo with lower distortion. Overall, this Kenwood is relatively easy to use and the sound quality is very good. I'm very pleased with this unit and would recommend it to others as an excellent OEM stereo replacement.

I have a 2006 jeep liberty and was looking for a new head unit for quite a while before choosing this. I didn't want anything too flashy and extreme, but rather something that would help me slowly build up the audio in my car. I have always liked Kenwood products and the installation for this was a breeze, I would say it took under 30 min to install and right away the sound in my car is noticeably better. Right now I have four 6 3/4" speakers in the doors with two tweeters in the dash. The music sounds cleaner and I can here things that sounded muffled with the stock unit. Plus I can hook up anything with a USB port (including iPod) and anything with a headphone jack. There are plenty of options to adjust the audio how you want it and this unit gives you the option of adding a subwoofer. I think I will go with the JL PowerWedge Max. The 12" powered subwoofer. All in all crutchfield has been great, delivery was fast and their customer support is always ready to help if you have any issues.

I was in the market for a radio that would be compatible with my iPod. I liked that the Kenwood KDC-MP345U not only was compatible with my iPod but that it reads the music files from my iPod, allows you to search by playlist, artist, genre, song etc. and displays the title/artist on the display. It also charges it while it's plugged into the radio. I found the functions fairly easy to figure out. The hardest thing for me to figure out initially was how to back out of the menu once you started selecting options. Install was an absolute breeze. It took me at the very most 30 minutes to wire up the wire adaptor to the wire harness, take my dash apart, change out my radio and put my dash back together. The sound quality that this Kenwood has given my car is phenomenal. My car's factory system has never sounded so good. The advisor's were great to deal with and it only took 4 days for the radio to arrive once it was shipped.

I had read all the reviews on this unit before buying, and they were on target. You do not need new speakers with this great unit. Picked up an old '91 Lumina, yanked the factory tape/radio, stuck this Kenwood in, left the sun scorched stock speakers in, and was blown away by the sound. Clean, clear sound, screechy CD highs filtered out, bass just right, nice level sound between songs, etc. The CD's , the sticks and the MP3 player all sound fantastic through the Aux. input. Left the default settings as is. What great bang for the inexpensive buck. Couldn't recommend it more. I'll be buying another!

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this for my girlfriend's Infiniti when the factory stereo started to go. She wanted iPod functionality and this unit gives you that, and more. The USB input not only plays iPods, but allows you to control the playlists, search, etc via the unit's controls or the remote that was included. It also charges the connected device through USB cable. I read somewhere that this unit would not interface with the iPhone 4.0 OS, but was pleasantly surprised to find that this is not true. Her iPhone (with the latest OS) works just fine. I have yet to test the unit with a flash drive or external HD to see if the browse/search functions are simple enough to use while driving, but I think it would be fun to connect a 120GB drive and have an entire library at your fingertips. Overall, she is very happy with her new toy and I was pleased with how easy the install and wiring were.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Bought this for the wife's aging RAV4. She's a bit of a technophobe so didn't want too many bells/whistles (bluetooth, HD, etc.), but did want direct access to her iPod and ability to play CDs. This unit did the trick. It has nice iPod control features though she did have to sit for an hour with the manual and radio to understand how everything works (did I mention she's a technophobe?). For most folks, this is a no-brainer upgrade for a basic OEM radio. It has great radio reception--to be fair, I'm judging it against the terrible Toyota stock radio. I particularly like the front USB support for playing mp3's from a memory stick...much slicker than messing around with an iPod, but does handle an iPod equally well. Controls might not be very intuitive to some, but easy to master with a bit of practice.

Al-Fla from Tampa Bay area, FL on 11/5/2010

I bought one and had it installed in a 2001 Nissan Maxima. I'd give this a C, so far. Positives: the interface for an iPod is great, and it sounds much better than the stock radio. Negatives; The tuner doesn't have the sensitivity the old radio had and doesn't automatically pick up weaker FM stations. Also, this has relatively tiny buttons. My dealer didn't tell me I need to buy an adapter so the volume and tuning buttons on the steering wheel will continue working - an extra cost I discovered after installation.

I was looking for a simple replacement for a previous replacement for a 1995 Nissan 240SX and this serves the purpose. Nothing fancy, but as Ron Washington, the manager of the Texas Rangers would say, "it do what it do". The face has a bit of a scratch on it due to my mishandling it, but that scratch goes well with a 1995 interior. Installation instructions from Crutchfield and from Kenwood were fine. I spent some extra time dealing with a misunderstanding about the power antenna wire, blue -vs- blue/white, but it eventually was sorted with no problems.

This radio was a replacement for the factory radio in my work car: a 2000 Honda Civic DX with no options. It even has crank windows. It was my mother's car before she quit driving. The factory radio was quitting and I wanted MP3/iPod interface. The radio is great! The sound is crisp and much better than factory. The iPod interface (with charging) is perfect. My only wish was that you could display the time AND the radio frequency att he same time. A minor complaint and the only one I have. As with all Crutchfield kits, installation was well documented and flawless.

You can't beat the price shipped to your door because Crutchfield doesn't charge shipping on this head unit. All my referrals purchased the radio so now all my friends have the same radio in their cars. It's a perfect blend of power, clarity and function. The USB function is amazing when you plug in a 16GB flash drive and have TONS of music to listen to for hours. I replaced my Miata's factory unit with this Kenwood after doing a lot of research. I love the power this puts out. Even driving with the top down, the clarity is amazing. On the plus side: -Installation was easy and quick...thanks Crutchfield for the install kit and instructions! -The unit seems solid and well made-looks great installed -Amazing features for the money. The controls are fairly intuitive and after a few tries, you learn where everything is. -Love the front USB port. Bought a nano drive and it holds all my songs. Great for displaying various song info, etc. Works great On the minus side: -The display gets washed out with any sunlight near it. Obviously in a convertible, I'm not seeing much info on the screen -Even though it was indicated that the power antenna would only go up if the radio was on, my antenna is up whenever the unit is powered on. A small annoyance -The buttons along the bottom are a bit small and can be difficult to find by touch. Overall, I'm really enjoying this Kenwood and am quite happy. Crutchfield as always was great to work with. I've bought a ton from them and will again.

The iPod feature works fine on the receiver, however, the control that works for newer iPods, such as the iTouch, that enables one to control the song selection and volume from the iPod itself, as opposed do doing all of that through the receiver (which can be tedious) does not work for my iPod, and other versions. Make sure you check to see if this feature is actually compatible with your version if you may think you want to use it. Otherwise, I couldn't be happier with this purchase.

The price was great, the instructions were great, and we had fun putting it in. I considered having it installed but we saved $200 by doing it ourselves. The only problem is that we were limited to 4" speakers in our install because the truck is tiny. They sound good but are limited to what 4" speakers could do. My son is happy with his stereo. I'm not going to rehash the other reviews. I'm going to speak about the iPhone 4 specifically. 1: The unit I ordered in Sept 2010 worked fine with the iPhone 4 with iOS 4.1. Seamless. 2: You can control the iPhone directly -or- through the head unit. That's nice. When the head unit has control the iPod function is locked out. If you release control from the head unit to the iPhone the iPod suddenly becomes functional. The music never stops. 3: You can use a normal iPod cable. You don't need Kenwood's. In fact, I used a Nano cable from a few years ago and it worked fine. 4: Much to my surprise, the navigation is really easy via the head unit. So if you have a nano or something small you can throw it out of sight. 5: It will charge the iPhone. That's obvious, but I wanted to state it. Hope this helps clear up some concerns for people. What I don't know is if Kenwood handles the d/a conversion or if it's the iPod. Nonetheless, it sounds surprisingly good (1997 Honda Civic, stock front speakers, JBL 6x9s in back). Good luck!

I installed this in my daughter's 2003 Toyota Corolla (as a birthday gift). The installation kit worked perfectly and it looks great. So far, no problems seeing the display (due to sunlight) in this vehicle. She says it sounds better than the factory stereo, and loves being able to charge her iPhone while she drives, as well as using the direct-connect (instead of her old FM transmitter adapter) to listen to her library of music, the detachable faceplate, etc. I was impressed with how well the receiver's direct iPhone control works. This Kenwood is a good buy for the price...sounds good, looks good, has most of the functions one would want in a car stereo and is fairly easy to navigate through. I'm primarily using an 8gb flash drive with it and the ease of connection is really nice; no cords to fiddle with. I guess the only knocks I would have against it are that the display washes out in direct sunlight and the FM tuner sensitivity could be better. But overall, not bad...I'd recommend it to someone who doesn't want to "blow the budget" on car audio-

The design is nice, with a purple-ish face and red lights for presets. It's a bit smaller than I anticipated it looking in my car, but I suppose that's to be expected since the factory stereo was made exactly to fit the odd shaped console. I used the wiring harness and receiver kit from Crutchfield. I did call the help line a few times & they were very friendly & helpful. The hardest part was getting my factory stereo to fit in the console in my 1998 Honda Civic. I positioned it so that the front of the stereo (where the knobs would be) faced the drivers side floor and pushed everything back. It was a very snug fit. As for skill, I'm a girl who hasn't ever taken apart of her car before, nor done wiring. I'm mostly using the USB port with a thumb drive and the CD player to play MP3s. I really like that when I flip back and forth, it remembers where you were on either device. I'll usually have 2 different types of music going, and this makes it easy to switch by mood. I connect my thumb drive using a cable, and it's a lot easier to plug/unplug. I learned the controls pretty quickly, and haven't cracked the manual yet. One thing I'm not fond of (I'll have to look up in the manual to see if I can change this) is that you select one 'view' for the information displayed. I like seeing the titles of the songs, but wish I could have it flip occasionally to the clock, since the stereo is my only clock in the vehicle.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Was a good choice for an older Mazda RX-7. Crutchfield helped me find an installation kit and it was relatively straight-forward putting the unit in. A couple of features that I don't like: the power antenna goes up in every play mode except Standby. It would be nicer if it only went up when the radio was being used. You have to cycle through all modes each time rather than selecting the one you want directly. This causes the power antenna to go down each time you hit Stanby and go right back up when you select the next mode. The dimmer isn't dim enough, so at night the unit looks more like a billboard than I like. Sounds good paired with new speakers, and overall we are quite pleased. Support is terrific as usual - Crutchfield is simply the best when in comes to customer service.

Great easy to use unit, has all the necessary options to use with todays technology. Bought for my wife's vehicle and she likes it. So that is the best thing about it. The kids can use there ipods, mp3, flash unit, ect. So I have to say GREAT unit for the money!! The other nice thing is that Crutchfield provided the mounting kit and wiring harness adapter, which made it easy for me. Just need an evening and a six pack and everybody was happy!!!!!! Cheers.

This is the 2nd kenwood I have purchaced for my f150 truck. I loved the 1st one enough that when I had a problem I puchased another unit that was the same. The one I had was still under warranty but I did not like the turn around time so I purchased a new one. I sent the other back to be fixed and will use it in another car. Crutchfield was good to work with, and shipped new unit fast. I really like the remote on the new unit it works better and is smaller.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased this for my Honda Accord to replace the original CD stereo so I could play my iPod through my car speakers. Came with two sets of installation instructions, one for the stereo and one for the car mounting kit, which have to be cross-referenced so your wiring harness is correctly hooked up. Crimping wires took the longest time so once that's done it's a fairly straightforward removal and installation procedure. The car kit was great too because I went from a 2 DIN to 1 DIN so I now have extra space for my iPod and some CDs. As for the stereo, the sound is awesome even coming out of the factory speakers. A significant improvement over what came with the car. iPod playlists play with no skips between tracks and controls can be set to manual mode or iPod control mode. I like having the USB port on the front because it lets me plug in without drilling holes in my dash to access the back of the unit, but it does mean an extra wire hanging out of the front of the stereo. My main complaint is that the buttons are small and impossible to read so study the manuals before you get stuck trying to change something while driving. Detachable faceplate is a bonus.

This stereo is amazing for the money! I was looking for something that worked well with my ipod touch and this definitely fits the build. My only complaint is that when the sun shines in my back window the display is physically impossible to read without blocking the sun. But the remote makes me not need to see the screen much anyways. The stereo took about three days to get to me and the installation didn't take long at all. I did have problems with a short in my speakers that was ignored by the stock head unit but this unit has a security circut on it that wont let speakers play with a short. Overall if you are looking for a decently cheap stereo with tons of features then this is definitely the one!

I was looking for a headunit that was iPod compatible, provided good sound, ease of use, and was all for a good price: this purchase was perfect in all these aspects. I am tremendously happy with this product. It allows for iPod control right on the headunit, so there is no need to scroll on the iPod itself. The sound is good, and the display is good too. Installing this receiver (into a 05 Jeep Wrangler) was not a trouble at all. The provided instructions (Master Sheet) were easy to follow, and allowed installation to go smoothly. Rumor says the display can be tough to see at times, and this only occurs when the sun is directly shinning at a certain angle: it is never a serious problem for me. If it does happen, it is only for a few seconds since the angle the sun needs to hit it at is so specific. Overall I would recommend this product to anyone who wants an iPod compatible receiver that is good quality for a good price.

Only ever buying from Crutchfield. For this price I got EVERYTHING I needed to install this deck in my 2005 Dodge Ram Quad Cab. Took about 30 min for me to solder the wiring harness from Crutchfield to the harness from the radio. Once that was done it took me literally about 10 minutes to install it. Worked great! As for the deck itself this thing has a ton of features for the price. I use my 5th Gen Ipod Nano with this thing with out any issues. I also have a 8 GB USB Thumb Drive I put into the radio and hit random. Its very nice! One feature I love that is not listed on here with the deck, if you are listening to music from the USB drive and pull it out - say when you are pulling off the face plate - when you get back in your truck and put the USB drive back in the music picks right up where it left off. Just a minor thing I really like. If there is one thing I find a bit minor wrong is I can't view the clock time and the track information at the same time. But that really is a minor gripe and not enough for me to give it a 4 star rating. THANKS CRUTCHFIELD! I will be getting my stock speakers upgraded soon!

This stereo sounds great, a fantastic upgrade to the old receiver in my kid's Toyota Corolla, which had a skipping CD. Installation was a breeze. Connecting the wiring harness was straightforward, but took a bit of time. The instructions showed exactly how to get the trim off and remove the old receiver. Actually sitting in the car and changing the receiver out took only 20 minutes. I was worried the iPhone 4s my kids have wouldn't work after previous reviews, but we plugged in and it worked fine.

I was looking for a economic choice to upgrade from my stock stereo. I love the iPod control here, and the sound quality upgrade is unbelievable. I still have my stock speakers, but I went from a tinny, no-bass, muddled sound to a nice, clear, authoritative sound. As far as iPod control goes, it does exactly what it advertises. It's a little unsightly to have the cable in front, but if you can live with that, it's great. Setting it on random and choosing the next song does indeed choose the next random song, not the next sequential song. Finally, installation was a breeze. Installed in a Honda Civic in a few hours on a Saturday morning. All in all, best value purchase I've made in a long, long time. Couldn't be happier.

I got this Kenwood MP345U to be rid of my CD's. I really just wanted an excellent value for playing music from USB drives. I got this from Crutchfield based on its ratings and I also wanted the clear instructions, wiring harness supplied, and support if needed. I was happy with these items, but basically tossed the supplied trim kit because it was black and heavily textured and not a good match for my dark grey dash. I got a different trim kit and it really matches the Honda dash well. I ended up using 2 screws to mount the stereo to the factory bracket on the sides of the receiver, and then, used the Din adapter to support the front. I then used Kenwood Stereo surround trim which came with the stereo itself, it looks great. Controls are fairly intuitive but you gotta read the instructions to figure out how to turn it off. I looked for a small USB drive at a local department store and I found a 4GB Micro SD card with a USB adapter that was only 1" long and 1/2" wide, it works great. It only protrudes from the Kenwood by 3/4" at most and at night the little red LED blends right in like it was made for this stereo. The other thing I like about this Kenwood is at night, it really matches well with the red & blue lights complimenting all the dash lights, it just blends right in. Lastly, the Crutchfield Support team came through for me when wiring up the speakers, they knew all the Pos & Neg wire colors for all 4 speakers on my car. Thanks a Ton for that!

I am blown away by the quality and ease of use of this receiver! This was the first time I have ever attempted to remove and install a new receiver in a car. I have a 97 Honda Civic which required me to relocate the factory head-unit behind the dash. I have to admit, I was highly skeptical at first as to how this would work, but the instructions provided by Crutchfield were so easy to follow...my 4 year old daughter was able to help me! After getting it installed, I was worried that my iPhone 3GS wouldn't work via the USB port due to some previous reviews, but after some researching on the Apple forums, I was able to find a fix (just perform a hard reset on your phone) and now my phone works just fine with it. I don't even have to unplug it to make calls! The only problem I have with the receiver thus far is the fact that you can't have the time of day and the song title scrolling at the same time. But, I wear a watch all the time and I might just have to read through the instruction manual a little further. Sound is great (although now I'm going to need to replace the factory speakers) for the money and I didn't have to call tech support to install it. Thanks again Crutchfield!

I would also have liked if the head unit would shuffle songs. The only way of doing this is to connect the ipod via the aux input but you lose the ipod control feature by doing it this way. The factory tuner was better than the Kenwood's and the CD player never had trouble playing copied discs. Sometimes the Kenwood does. The controls are easy to learn and the instructions are painless to navigate. Despite all the negatives, is still a pretty good deal for the money.

It improved the sound of my stock speakers considerably. Very little distortion when the volume level is at 20 or below. My only con is that the built in amp has no headroom. If you turn up the volume past 50% or so, it distorts really badly. This is not a real issue for me, as I am not trying to share my music with people down the block, but I thought I should warn you. I installed this on a 2003 Saturn L200.... The harness included in the Crutchfield kit work perfectly, The dash trim was not so perfect, the factory radio uses 2 brackets to keep the radio straight and stable, but when installing this radio the brackets do not fit correctly on this unit and the dash trim kit does not provide a way to support the radio, But with a little patience and a good hammer you can modify the brackets to make them fit your needs and ultimately support the radio correctly. I am very pleased with unit. Operation is a breeze. Sounds great with plenty of overhead... I've never actually turned it all the way up. Clean sound. Interface is good, only I wish it would "time out"... if you are in the settings, for instance, it just stays there until you hit the "back" button. CD has never skipped, ever (very much unlike the radio it replaced). The only other problem I have is it is quirky when connecting the USB to my iPhone. Can take a long time to "read" the device. Other times just takes literally a second. I haven't figured out what the difference is. Perhaps it's just moody. Extremely solid product for such a budget price.

Its a nice deck. Just a couple of complaints. 1. The on-off button is also the source/mode button. Every time you turn it on you have to scroll through the options to the one you want or left it in. 2. The clock. This is a pet peeve of mine. The clock should default to on when the deck is off. This one goes part way. You put the deck in "standby" and set the display to clock so you can see it. Its a lot better deck than the Dual XDMA6355 I put in my daughters car. There is no way to see the clock with the radio off in that one.

I got this receiver to replace my factory cd/casette player. I was going to get a cheaper $100 dollar unit, but the install gear brought it up to $150. When i got this one, it all came free and install was a breeze. took me and a buddy less than 30 minutes to get the old one out and the new one wired in. I was very pleased with the iPod control on this thing. i could scroll through all my songs, it basically turns the cd player into an ipod. it uses the same menus and everything. My only complaint with this deck is that when u search through the iPod, it forgets where u were everytime u leave the menu, so u have to start at the top everytime, and there is no search function like on the newer iPods. The sound was fantastic. Even through the junky stock speakers it sounds very good. My buddy has had a pioneer deck for the last few years, and he was impressed enough to think about buying one of these for his 3000GT

I purchased this head unit as a replacement for my girlfriends van. Since she was on a budget I wasn't expecting too much from an entry level Kenwood. Man was I wrong! This is an outstanding product. even at high volume the distortion level is neglegable. This Kenwood is packed with features. Some features I have yet to find in high end headunits. To make the purchasing experience better Crutchfield included at no extra charge all of the installation goodies. schematics, wire harness and mounting kit. Sure you might be able to save five or ten dollars elsewhere, but with all of the freebies, noone can make a better deal than Crutchfield. Great value for the money! IPod integration is literally plug and play. You can control it from the receiver or give control back to the iPod itself. All the functions are controlled with two or three buttons in various combinations which takes some time to master, but once you do it's easy to search throught your music/podcast collection. The display is bright and easy to read. Other MP3 players were also easy to access, and in a pinch there's a free software application from Kenwood (downloadable) that turns a flash drive into a compatable MP3 player. A great deal for people who don't need all the bells and whistles of an iPod! I also tested classical and pop CDs -- likewise, easy to search and scroll. The sound for both CDs and USB devises is excellent even with my inexpensive speakers. I will say that the radio was a slight disappointment. My factory-installed radio from 1993 seems to have better reception and sound. Installation was a breeze with Crutchfield's custom instructions, which I took the time to read through carefully the night before installing. Most of the 45 minute installation time was spent soldering wires (crimping would have been a little faster). The owner's manual has some translation problems which may slow you down. But you can download it from Crutchfield to see what's what before you even buy.

Easy install. Soldered the included Nissan adapter to the Kenwood harness at my workbench, using the very clear set of instructions from Crutchfield (and the wire colors all matched, right down to the + and - speaker wires). The Kenwood control settings for adjusting bass, fade and everything else are very intuitive and simple to use. The sound is a big improvement over the slightly more expensive JVC that previously resided in my dash. The Kenwood's 22 watts RMS seems to bring out the best in my lowly Alpine speakers, even the 4-inchers in the rear doors. The AUX plug provides a much clearer signal than FM for Sirius, and the USB feature is out of this world...I may never, ever use the CD player because the USB sounds so great and is much more convenient. I spent a long time studying features, specs, reviews and styling before I selected the KDC-MP345U. It took no time at all to realize that I'd made a pretty good decision.

I bought this to replace a failed factory unit in an Accord, and I also wanted a connection for an I pod. I would have given 5 stars if it had a port in the rear of the unit that allowed a connection for the I pod to be run to the glove compartment out of sight. All the controls including the ones used to operate the i pod are pretty intuitive. You can scroll through menus by turning the knob or using the toggle button that is located below and to the right of the knob. Use the toggle to advance a couple songs through a playlist one by one without looking down at the unit, or hit search and then use the knob to cover more "ground". Works well for me. Sound quality is definitely improved over the factory, no surprise there. Installation was about an hour with Crutchfield's installation instructions that were specific to my vehicle. That, plus the included dashboard "adapter" and wiring harness make crutchfield the only place I buy car electronics from. This was my fourth purchase from them since 1998. I'm glad to see that nothing has changed. I simply can't imagine that another unit anywhere near the price of this one could be any better. I'm ordering a second one right now for my 2006 Tacoma to match the one in my car!

I bought this for my 2005 Frontier and it was easy to install. After a year it still plays MP3's flawlessly from a USB stick and iPhone (and an occasional CD). FYI: When you plug an iPhone/iPod touch into the USB port, it will charge and you get limited control through the deck or remote control. (next track, previous, random, pause, volume etc). When you plug a USB stick in you can play, pause, next track, previous track, random, etc. Brightness of the display was a non issue for me. I didn't even notice, as some other reviews mentioned. MP3's from a USB stick and radio are what I mainly use it for and both sound great on my stock speakers. Great choice for a reciever.

I bought this receiver about a year ago now for my 2007 Corolla. Crutchfield earned a new customer for life with the wiring harness and indash adapter included. Being still a pretty new car, I was afraid it might look bad. But the adapter fits perfectly. Originally I just wanted something I could plug my smartphone (my MP3 player of choice) into - prices to add any sort of adapter to an existing stereo are silly for that when you can buy this though. Then, once I got it and found the joy of 8Gig flash drives plugged permanently into the USB port, I forgot my MP3-encoded CDs AND my smartphone/mp3 player. This now has every song I own and room to spare. There are some issues worth mentioning, however. My AM reception has all but disappeared. I'll have to doublecheck my antenna connection though. And the method of changing folders on my flash drive isn't intuitive. But given the awesome sound and just as awesome usb port, I can live with that. In fact, I JUST bought another for my wife's mothers day present. She'll really love it, I know.

This stereo is the best one on the market in the price range. It makes the sound quality 10x better, and with all of the added features it's a no brainier. The only (small) complaints that I have: 1) In my car, when I switch from radio to iPod, etc. there is a loud "BEEP" that comes from the stereo. This may just be the way I wired it, but is a small obnoxious flaw. 2) There is a lag when using the iPod function. Of course, nearly every stereo in the industry has this problem, and honestly it isn't that bad at all. There is a clear distinction between the HD radio, and regular. I have had no problems with the HD radio and am extremely pleased. No cutting in and out as some stereos do. If you're having any second guesses - DON'T! This is the best you can get!

I've had this stereo for two weeks now and I really, really like it. I primarily use the iPod controls and listen to podcasts. The reason I picked this stereo over others, in this price range, was the ability to search based on podcast. Almost all of them can search on artist, album, playlist (this one can too) but I mainly listen to podcasts and so that was the deciding factor for me. The one negative is that the podcasts always play in alphabetical order. I wish it would play by date so I could listen to older ones first without having to use the controls. This is only a small issue and I may be missing something as well. I have tried the tuner, CD, and USB in addition to the iPod and all work great. One nice surprise is how good my factory speakers sound now. I was looking at buying new speakers but they sound really good now with this new stereo. Again, I listen to music sometimes but mainly podcasts so your mileage may very. Overall, this was well worth the upgrade and I'm sorry I didn't do it sooner.

I've only had this unit for two days, but so far it seems unbelievable for the price. It only took me 40 minutes to install, most of the time soldering the wiring harness on. It would have taken a lot less time if you use wire nuts. My only quibbles so far, are: 1. You can't listen while you fast forward a CD. I listen to a lot of books on tape, so that would be useful. 2. There's a second or so pause when going between MP3 files on a USB thumb drive. I don't know if all units do that, and it's not a big deal. 3. The buttons are a little small, and the unit is not the most attractive, but for the price, what do you want? I haven't tried the iPod controls, but the tuner, CD player and USB connection are all I'd ever need.

I have since added a 50x2 amp and a pair of 8" subs off of one of the two pairs of RCA outputs included with the radio... The sound quality this unit puts out is second to none in this price range and probably as good as some more expensive units. And I also wanted to thank Crutchfield for their great service! I ordered my radio on a Monday morning and received it on Wednesday afternoon with standard free shipping!! Also with the included mounting bracket, wiring harness and directions it was so easy to install! I just purchased this to replace my awful sounding 2004 Toyota Rav4 factory stereo and what a difference. I did not even replace the factory speakers and it sounds fantastic- great presence and a superb sound stage. Now my daughter wants one for her car so I will soon be purchasing another. Sounds great with Sirius too- use the Aux on the unit for clear sound. 5 Stars

This is really easy to install in my 02 Ford f150, crutchfield gives you everything you need to install. There also just a phone call away i didnt even have to wait to talk to someone. The Hands on - Hands off feature for ipods is really cool it even displays the artist and song on the hands off mode. It can also search your ipod and save up to 10 songs on a playlist which is really cool.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this as a package deal from Crutchfield with two pairs of Kenwood speakers to replace my Jeep GC unit. Best money Ive spent so far on improving my vehicle! Installation was a breeze. I did have to make a better support to hold the weight at the back of the unit, but that was a bad design on Jeep's part. The USB port is great to have with an Ipod, just plug it in and the unit finds all your songs and even charges it for you. My only small complaints would be a 7 channel EQ rather than the 3 channel, just to give a bit more fine tuning, but I can live with it. I would also have the removable faceplate attach from the other side. Its a bit awkward if you are trying to put it on one handed. I find it harder to do than with my JVC unit in my other car for some reason. Great price for a great piece of technology!

First of all this is my first Kenwood and I am truly impressed. This wasnt my first aftermarket deck install, and it was easier and faster than ever thanks to crutchfields helpful mastersheets and having the ability to call for help eases you mind. This install was only slighty difficult because I also installed an Onstar adapter which included a whole other harness to install but man was it worth it. The sound is awesome and is reall clear. I added a JL 500x1 mono Amp and a JL 10W6V2 in a ported box and needless to say, you can hear me when im on my way over. Not to mention this deck plays mp3s, has a usb port, an aux port and 2 sets of pre outs, what more do you need, buy this one now before they run out!!!! The Harrisonburg Store had my unit and harness etc. ready when I stopped by. I replaced my '96 Accord's stock cassett/radio with the 345. Wow! Even keeping the original 14 year old speakers, the new sound is VERY clear and powerful, with rich depth without distortion. The FM section pulls in stations with far more clarity and consistency as I drive, and my ancient Sirius receiver with the antenna adaptor switch works with no interference or noise. This simple, inexpensive upgrade is well worth the 2 hours it takes to install, and the Crutchfield instructions and installation accessories were a perfect fit. For the money this is an outstanding unit. Looks like another 10 years for the Accord with this unit.

I took Crutchfield's recommendation for the Kenwood KDC-MP345U after reading the reviews & am not disappointed AT ALL in my decision. It sounds so much better than the stock non-JBL system!!! Its been years since I put an aftermarket deck in, but the fit kit/instructions were easy to follow. I did use my factory metal mounting brackets rather than the plastic mounts & metal sleeve fwiw. I liked the extra pocket & how the metra kit looks factory even though I choose the black kit. It matches nicely. After reading the factory manual, I feel the deck is easy to use & packs a lot of punch for so little $$. The USB IPOD interface & optional Aux port gives me lots of versatility too. Highly recommend to others who want an inexpensive but value filled stereo upgrade.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have never installed an aftermarket CD player in a vehicle before and I was impressed how easy it was to install. - The most difficult part was the beginning getting the trim piece off so you can take the factory stereo out but that only took 10 minutes after using a screwdriver to pry off (it doesn't come with panel remover tool). Getting the factory radio out with DIN tools was a snap. - Wiring was easier than I anticipated. With the wiring harness I wired it at the table in the house. I already owned a wire stripper/cutter but had to buy some butt splices to crimp wires together. This was the first time I've crimped wires and apparently I crimped a few too tight because they severed the bare wires inside the splices and I had to do it again. Minor glitch. - When installing the mounting bracket and DIN sleeve into the vehicle bend the metal tabs up AFTER it's installed in the vehicle or else it won't go in all the way. - I bought this because I have all my songs on USB flash drives and it works great. NO MORE MAKING CD'S!!! - I am a bargain hunter and I found this same unit other places online for as much as $30 cheaper but after reading the prior reviews about Crutchfield Customer Service I paid a little extra money for a lot of piece of mind. I used the customer service twice and each time I was on the phone for less than 5 minutes and they had instant replies to my questions.

Installed it with my friend in an hour. Sound is amazing, this deck is the best deal for the price. It was going for $200.00 recently at stores. My favorite part is that it plays music from my USB stick. I bought an 8gb for $25 and loaded it up. It plays no problem with clear sound and even remembers where you left off on the stick if you take off the faceplate. You can even burn Data cd's and play a cd with over 200 songs on it if you dont want to use the usb. Another bonus is that Crutchfield included the install kits for free.

Solid product - never bought from kenwood and was disappointed. Owned about 2 weeks - easy to use and works exactly as expected. I like the usb slot has a flip open compartment instead of a rubbery cover. Sound is good and has decent eq. Works well with my old amp and sub (like 9 year old equipment). Bought this and put it in my truck and bought a pioneer and put in my wifes car. Not happy with pioneer so I returned it and got another one of these. Highly recommended - great price for value.

    Excellent purchase for Ipod users

Chris from warwick, ri on 2/26/2010

I think that for the money this product is hands down a total score! when I purchased this I was thinking on using the ipod with the aux input. While the usb port can be used for direct Ipod connection and memory stick media (memory stick media?!) I figured I'd only use it to charge my ipod once the bat was running low. I have a lot of songs and I do a lot of rating. I looked in the manual and found "hands-on/hands/off". With the ipod plugged into the usb port on the receiver I can hit 1 and 3 on the radio and switch between the modes. Now I can use the benefits of the usb port (charging, quality sound) AAND use my ipods clickwheel functionality at the same time. I don't even use the aux anymore! and if I want to shuffle songs i just push button 1 on the radio and my artist/album scroll across the screen and I am still happy. I even tried the search function and it really isn't that bad.The only things so far that are negative are: 1-- the screen during the day is almost impossible to see with sunlight on it. it just looks pink.. 2-- when using the usb mode for the first 30 seconds in either hands-on/hands-off mode you get a little song distortion because it is loading up i guess. I have a lot of songs and it only does it for a second. i'd say this is an outstanding product for all who love using there ipods in the car! buy it. u will be very happy.

The unit came with explicit directions, all necessary mounting hardware and cable connections (car has a factory installed power amp) for my '91 Acura Legend. It sounds Great! Useful, straightforward features though you'll have to actually read the manual to do things like set the clock, etc. I am very happy with this receiver and you can't beat Crutchfield for excellent tech support and competitive pricing.

Not much I can say that hasn't been said by the other reviewers. Here is my input anyways. I received the stereo today, packaged very well, and it included everything I needed to install it. (minus the wire connectors, but it didn't say they were included) it even had the euro antenna adapter, and the OEM din removal tools.. who would have thought of this? Thanks Crutchfield! Easiest stereo I have ever installed by far. In my 2001 VW passat, it took me about 20 mins. to crimp the wires together, and then about 5 mins to actually install it in the dash. Now to the deck itself, This thing sounds GREAT! I never had the speakers in this car (all stock) sound the way they do with this head unit. All the ranges are crisp and clear.. and it just sounds good. I do not have an amplifier in my car, or a subwoofer for that matter, but it sounds like I do now! The ipod control through the USB is awesome and easy to navigate. Quit reading reviews, and just buy it..

I'M a total noobie at this type of stuff and got lost So I called tech support and they ROCKED!!!! they stayed on the line with me till I felt ok to continue by my self and they where able to help with more then just the wiring. Over all it's to early to rate the radio but crutchfield as a company gets 10 stars. If I ever need a new sound system or anything for my car i will check here fist.

I knew this unit would be better than the orginal head unit for my Ford sport trac but I had no idea how much better. The minute it powered up and I put in my USB flash, the sound was really awesome. I bought an amplified sub that I plan to out under the back bench later but for now it still pushes more bass around than the original unit, by far. Clean, easy to navigate and very inexpensive I give this on a 5. I have been an Alpine guy forever but this has shown me they are not the only player out there.

I know it's kind of lame to review something you've used for only a couple of days....... But, it couldn't wait. I chose this unit because of the usb, 3.5 aux input and it's high RMS power output. I'm absolutely impressed by the performance and I found it easy to navigate it's menus for set up. It's pushing four 6.5" Polk DB651's beautifully and they sound soooo good ( and they're not even broken in ). If you like Kenwood HU's, I definitely recommend this one.

    Display Features

Detachable Face: The unit features a single front loading CD face that detaches from the chassis to deter theft. The CD player comes supplied with a soft black fabric, draw string face case to protect the detachable face when you have it off the chassis.

Fluorescent Display: The Kenwood headunit features an 13-character blue backlit fluorescent display with red and blue button illumination.

Display Illumination/Clock Display: When the unit is in Standby mode, the face/button illumination is "keyed." In addition, while the unit is in Standby mode, you can turn the clock display on or off. When the Clock Display is turned on and the unit is in Standby mode, the Clock Display is also "keyed." Pressing and holding the source button turns the unit off completely.

Display Dimmer: The display has two brightness settings to adjust the brightness of the display according to the surrounding illumination. You can change this setting within the menu from On or Off.

Demo Mode: This unit features a Demo mode which can be turned "on" or "off" within the menu.

    Audio Section

MOSFET Amplifier: The Kenwood KDC-MP345U is equipped with a MOSFET amplifier. Compared to conventional power supplies, the MOSFET amplification circuit is smaller and more efficient, and it delivers increased power with less distortion and absolutely zero on/off switching noise. More power means louder and cleaner music at higher volumes because you're not pushing the limits of the amplification circuit. The power output specs for the KDC-MP345U are as follows:

    • Full Bandwidth Power: 22 watts RMS x 4 channels (at 4 ohms, 20-20kHz, 1% THD)
    • Maximum Output Power: 50 watts x 4 channels

Rotary Volume Control: The CD receiver uses a rotary volume control that increases and decreases the volume of the stereo from 0 to 35. The rotary knob also controls other audio settings such as Balance, Fader, Bass, Mid, Treble and preset EQ settings. In addition, the rotary knob allows you to scroll through and select your music tracks when the Music Search function is activated.

Speaker Settings: The Speaker Setting function tailors the System Q Sound Control settings according to the type of speakers in your vehicle. You may select a Speaker Setting of "SP Off" (flat), "SP OEM" (for OEM factory speaker systems), "SP 6x9/6" (for systems with 6" and 6"x9" speakers), or "SP 5/4" (for systems with 4" and 5" speakers).

System Q Sound Control: Six EQ curves are preset into memory, allowing you to recall the best preset EQ curve for different types of music. Each preset has its own level settings for bass (100Hz), midrange (1kHz), and treble (10kHz). You can choose from the following preset EQ curves - Rock, Pops, Easy, Top 40, Jazz, Natural and Game.

Bass/Treble/Mid Control: The KDC-MP345U also features independent Bass, Treble and Midrange control. You can adjust each one from -8 to +8db. The bass frequency is adjusted at 100 Hz, the treble frequency is adjusted at 10 kHz and the midrange frequency is adjusted at 1 kHz.

Bass Boost: The Kenwood CD receiver also features a Bass Boost control that can be set to the following levels - LV1, LV2 or Off.

Source Tone Memory: This feature allows you to store System Q bass, middle and treble tone settings for each source (CD, Tuner, Aux, and USB).

Volume Offset: The level of each source may be independently adjusted to prevent radical leaps in output volume when switching from one source to another. The available settings range from -8 to 0 (-8 to +8 for Aux source).

Selectable Preamp Outputs: The KDC-MP345U features front and rear preamp outputs. The rear preamp output allows you to adjust from a full-range rear speaker preamp output to a low-pass non-fading subwoofer preamp output.

Low Pass Filter: The receiver features a built-in Low Pass Filter control for the preamp-output when the output is set to Sub. You can select from 80Hz, 120Hz, 160Hz or Through (Off).

Subwoofer Phase: You can also adjust the phase of the subwoofer output between 180-degrees (Reverse) or 0-degrees (Normal).

Subwoofer Level: Once you have switched the preamp output to "subwoofer" you can independently control the subwoofer preamp output level from the CD receiver. You select levels between -15 to +15.

Tel Mute: The KDC-MP345U features a cell-phone mute wire (tan) in its harness that when hooked up to your car's phone system mute wire will automatically mute the receiver's audio signal when a call comes in.

Key Beep: The in-dash headunit provides an audible beep to confirm button operation. This function can be turned On or Off.

    Radio Functions

AM/FM Tuner: The Kenwood KDC-MP345U features a built-in AM/FM tuner. You can choose one of three tuning modes: Auto 1 (seek tuning), Auto 2 (cycles through and tunes the selected band's preset stations only with each button press), or Manual.

    Tuner Presets: The KDC-MP345U's
