Check out the KFC-W3013PS 12" sub — you get a heavy-duty polypropylene cone reinforced by a tough rubber surround that accommodates the extra-long cone excursion. Kenwood puts decades of experience into building their Performance Series subs, so you can have powerful, reliable bass in your vehicle. Check out the KFC-W3013PS 12" sub — you get a heavy-duty polypropylene cone reinforced by a tough rubber surround that accommodates the extra-long cone excursion. And this sub handles up to 400 watts RMS, so you can rock out out with plenty of thunder.

The Diamond Array Pattern reinforces the cone so that it won't warp during heavy bass production. A dual ventilation system pulls heated air out of the motor structure through the back and the sides of the sub, so the inner works stay cooler during those long, loud jams. Put this Kenwood in a suitable enclosure, power it with a nice amp, and get ready to party.

To drive this single subwoofer, we recommend a mono amplifier rated between 300 and 600 watts RMS at 4 ohms. For more information, please refer to our article on How to Match Subwoofers and Amplifiers.

Great tight bass

Drew from Central IL on 12/26/2013

Ive owned several brands of subs throughout the last decade of being a bass head.. While I'm still loyal to my Alpine subs, these are a very close second. As far as sound quality they easily compare to the Alpine SWS-12d2 (in my other vehicle).. I have them in (2) 1.4cf single truck boxes powered at 450rms in a single cab Cummins and they sound pretty good.. My standard of "loud" is skewed b/c my grand Cherokee has 1000rms to 2 12" alpine type S but I have a 600rms mono coming tomorrow so I'll get to see what more they have to offer.. All and all I'm impressed..

Pros: Nice, Tight, Controlled sound

Exceeded expectations

Theron from Gardner, ks on 12/25/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased these subs thinking that they would make a decent addition to an already good audio system in my car. These blew me away. They hit WAY harder than I thought they would. I was amazed at the power these things have

Pros: Lots of power, relatively cheap, great brand name

Cons: None

For the price, these CAN'T be beat

Adam McAlpine from Mediapolis, IA on 12/21/2013

I bought a pair of these subs with a Kenwood KAC-9105D amp and a pre-fab ported box. I wired them down to two Ohms, and I ran a 4 gauge rockford fosgate wiring kit. For having less than 500 bucks invested, THESE. SUBS. SLAM. I've had several people tell me they want subs like I have. They sound clean and hit hard, and they're at a very reasonable price. How can you beat it? The only things I noticed was when they were first new and I drove them hard, the voice coils smelled like they were going to disintegrate. But that went away after they were broken in.

Pros: -Good price -Clean sounds -Hits HARD

Cons: -Smelly voice coils - but that goes away.

Good value

Hopper from Grand Rapids, MI on 11/27/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased this sub to replace an outdated, low wattage unit I had installed in a sealed, appropriate sized box my work van. Bass mush more accurate and sound quality has improved a great deal. I have a remote gain that allows adjustment as necessary to bass levels I like with ease. 600 watt MTX mono amp.

Pros: easy install for replacement. Great value.

Cons: none

They will make you go HUH?

I bought this woofer about 9 months ago. I am powering this with only 200 watts RMS (2 channels of the alpine pdx-f4) I have it in a ported box. Very nice bass. I have had jl and alpine before. This woofer does great in the 400 and under RMS range.

Pros: Price

Cons: None

I have one in a 1.25 cf sealed box, powered by a JL Audio JX-500/1D and this thing thumps!!! I actually think it may be too much, but thankfully I added JL's remote knob (JL Audio RBC-1), so I can control the thump "as needed"!

Pros: Heavy, well made.

Cons: None.

Amazing bass

Jacob from Thorndale.tx on 1/11/2013

i have two of these bad boys in a 2.02 each slot ported Ground shaker box. These subwoofers are pretty loud for the price! i have a 1000 watt kenwood monoblock and a 1.0 micro farad capacitor (soundstream) and these things slam. i listen to everything and so im very picky with subwoofers and a friend told me to try them out. ive had alpine, memphis mojo, Blaupunkt, and kicker. these subs are up there with the alpines not quite as good and memphis but pretty dang close. definety buy these again!

Pros: amazing build quality!

Cons: the plastic peice that goes on top were the screws go is petty weak and i busted it with screws!

Buy this sub!

Austin from Glasgow,MT on 10/12/2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

this sub is straight up good i took my old sub out and stuck this bad boy in my box and it is way louder than my pioneer. easy to install, dont listen to the people that say it didnt come with what ever there saying cause it comes with everything.for the price you will enjoy it. it sounds more like a $250-$300 range.. but it just all depends on how well you set your stuff up.

Pros: everything was there.. its one badass sub!

Cons: none so far

Kenwood Slams

Eze from Antioch, CA on 9/4/2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Pushing this sub in a sealed box with 500 watts RMS from a Kenwood amp. Gain is set to 3/4's. Hits hard and loud with the right amp. The proper combination of power to sub rating is important, and makes a significant difference. This 12" sub mounted in the limited trunk space of my Mustang rivals most of the local SUV's running around with two 15"s pushed by some flea market amplifier that claims 1 million watts. Don't push this sub with anything less than 400 watts - you'll be wasting your money and you'll sound distorted.

Pros: Clean look with the spiral diamond pattern. Easy install, all hardware included, except...

Cons: Should come with a sealing foam ring. Did not.

Very good speaker but buy it from somewhere else

Sh3llshock55 from North Carolina on 9/1/2012

I bought one of these brand new in a custom made box at best buy in greenville, NC for $89.00. No discounts. No special deals. That is the price they had at that specific store. Anyways, if you want to spend the extra money on here go for it. The speaker is absoluelty amazing. It is what I wanted. I didn't want two 15's. I just wanted one good subwoofer and a nice amp. I am pushing this bad boy with a brand new mono alpine 500watt RMS amp D amplifier. That cost $199.00 at best buy but I got a 15% discount because of the rude customer service. It hits hard but not to hard. I pulled up at the gas pump with it blasting and the cashier refused to serve me because my speakers were shaking her windows. I had to turn them down. My factory tweeters still sound great and I can hear the lyrics along with the bass bumping. It sounds great, again! Def buy this. It is worth it. One alone is good, but if you want to shake the block a bit more, get two in a box with a bigger amp or an amp like mine but two dedicated to each speaker!

Pros: good clear low bass, hits hard, looks nice, sound good and treble is good.

Cons: If I start to push it to high then you start to get distortion. This is probably because I am pushing more watts to it at that point. 500 watt alpine amp. I am not sure how it is configured as it was done at best buy. I will take a look one day when I am not lazy. Could be a me problem. But overall, no cons really.

pretty good subs

Anonymous from menominee on 8/2/2012

I got 2 of these in a ported box, 1.75 per each chamber and these things pound pretty hard, I've had them for about a month now and have had no problems yet. I'm powering with a sound ordinance 500 Watt (very nice by the way) and a Kenwood 500 Watt, one amp for each sub, the only problem is that when I use them for a while you can distinctly smell the voicecoils burning pretty bad but other than that, great all around subs

Pros: Built good and LOUD

Cons: Voice coils are burning pretty bad and wont know how long they will last

Awesome Sub

Caleb M. from Jacksonville, AL on 6/18/2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

All I have to say, is WOW. $150.00 is a little much for this Subwoofer, but wow, what you pay for is what you get. This thing is built like a tank, it looks sleek, and sounds great! The mids are a little faint and the highs are weak, but the lows pound hard. I have this thing in a sealed box, and I can get everything I want out of this while pushing it at 350 watts without disturbing everyone within a 5 mile radius.

Pros: Solid, Cool looking, Nice Looking, Loud, Tight,

Cons: Mid to High range is a little weak, Needs a Grill to cover it for safety reasons.

Perfect Subs

Get these subs they are great! btw I have them on a 2000w mono amp wired parallel to 2 ohm in a super small box like L=28 W=7 H=14 behing the back seat in a jeep and they still bump hard haha

Pros: good bass,

Cons: none

Great sub!

Pros: Good sub.

Cons: Outrageous price!

These subs POUND

Mr. J from Earth on 5/20/2012

First, the only reason that I gave them a 1 star on Build Quality is because I have only had them a week. So I don't know? Now to the review. I got these put in Friday the 18th in a PT Cruiser with a sealed box, a Kenwood deck, and a 2000 watt Boss amp. I'm still in the break in period so I can't turn it up loud but my wife still says she can hear me coming for a couple minutes before I pull up. I can't imagine what these would sound like once hey are broke in. WOW. Will definitely buy Kenwood again when I need new stuff!!!

Chest rattling subs

BlackIrish from Denver, CO on 5/18/2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Bought these as part of a Crutchfield package and I am not disappointed. These babies hit so hard and Im only at 50% bass boost and 50% input sensitivity. Was worried the amp it cam e with would power them but my fear was unfounded. Car is older so parts are vibrating. Have been tightening things up for weeks.

Pros: Nice sized magnets good bass response easy to hook up goes well with amp I bought. All in all a great package. Im not at all disappointed.

Cons: Did not come with grills/speaker covers only plastic trim ring.

Absolutely amazing!

Ryan M from Lancaster, PA on 5/2/2012

I'm driving it with a Kenwood KAC-8105D which is only 300RMS compared to the subs rated RMS of 400. I slapped it in a 1 cu ft sealed enclosure with some polyfill, and oh my god this thing hits hard. If I turn up the gain my mirrors are shaking. IN A SEALED BOX! ONE SUB! To think that I could drive it with another 100 watts RMS is crazy. Can't imagine this thing in a ported box. Couldn't dream of running two.

Pros: HITS HARD (even at lower RMS) Quality sound

Cons: None

PORT your box and you will be amazed!!

HappySubOwner from Chicago, IL on 2/27/2012

Using a Kenwood KAC-7205 2 channel amp bridged to 1 channel for 500w x 1 RMS 2 farad DB Link cap First started out with a 1.24 cubic feet sealed box and it hit hard.. Very clean and responded great to several frequencies. Switched to a 1.93 Cubic Feet ported box and it sounds like I have 3 x 10's or 2 x 12's with no distortion. VERY IMPORTANT!! Use an online port length calculator to determine the correct size of your port. The wrong length will make a huge difference in sound. My slotted port opening is 4.75 tall by 2.5 wide and 11 inches long/deep. I have to show my friends it's only 1 sub before they believe me.. Can't imagine what 2 of these would sound like..

Pros: mounting depth durability sound response for the price

Cons: none

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I ordered these subs and I am more than pleased. They look amazing, and they sound just as amazing. After these I have a hard time looking at any other sub because they just don't compare to the purtyness of these. :) Thank you Crutchfield, for supplying us with the awesomeness of Kenwood.

Pros: Sounds great, and looks amazing.

Cons: None at all.

These are magnificent

Jared C from Wesley Chapel, Fl on 1/28/2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I've put these subs in multiple enclosures, sealed, ported... in both, the bass was crisp and clean. They can get very loud with low distortion. And they hit hard when paired with a good amp. These are awesome, because, not only do they sound great with rap/hip hop, they even sound good with heavy metal and anything with fast double bass drums. I recommend using 2 of these bad boys in a sealed enclosure, with an amp (around 400 rms) dedicated to each one. You will not be disappointed

Pros: -Great price -crisp, clean sound -sustains loud volume for long periods of time -good for any genre -good in multiple enclosures -they look nice -easy to install -they're kenwood

Cons: I can't fit 10 of these in my trunk

Blown up!

Derek J from Texarkana, TX on 11/20/2011

Overall good short term speakers for the value, but won't last for the long hall.

Pros: Good sound and performance

Cons: After two years both speakers blew up. The first one smoked the voice coils and the second one came appart at the base of the cone. They were great while they lasted but they don't hold up. Was only using a 175 RMS sony amp with 1000 watt max.

Very good sub for the price!

TurnHeading360 from Tampa, FL on 9/1/2011

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

If they are underpowered these subs sound bad. Installed in a sealed enclosure with 500 RMS to each. WOW!

Great Buy..

Sebastian from Paris, Tennessee on 8/15/2011

These subs are great for a truck.......They hit hard and have very clean and pure bass. They sound best if put in an enclosed box or under the seat box... Do not use an amp over 2000W on these subs because they cannot handle the power.

T-F-L-O from Indiana on 5/25/2011

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Very good subs, hits pretty hard for this low price! Very affordable and definitely not disappointed with my purchase of these.

Hands-on research

Product Research

Enclosure Compatibility

Cone: The KFC-W3013PS uses a polypropylene cone and rubber surround for added durability.

Heat Transfer System: A dual ventilation system design helps keep the motor structure cool, improving power handling and longevity.

Long Stroke Design: The pole piece has been extended to provide a more linear magnetic field for woofer operation. This lowers distortion and provides the woofer with better low frequency response.

Double Stacked Magnet: The stacked magnet assembly is used to create a powerful linear motor with increased excursion capability for superior bass output.

Spring Terminals: The spring post terminals on one side of the woofer connect to your amplifier's wiring. The posts will accept pin connectors, single banana plugs, or bare wire up to 10 gauge.

Enclosure Compatibility

Sealed Box: Kenwood recommends a sealed enclosure with an optimum internal volume of 1.25 cubic feet (from 0.75 to 1.75 cubic feet is acceptable). Sealed enclosures provide the most control over a woofer, will handle a lot of power, and provide accurate sonic reproduction, making them suitable to all types of music.

Ported Box: Kenwood recommends a ported enclosure with an internal volume of 2.0 cubic foot  (from 1.5 to 2.5 cubic feet is acceptable) using an 12-3/4" x 1-1/2" x 21-1/2" slot port. Ported (or vented) enclosures typically provide better overall efficiency than sealed so they are suitable for use with smaller amplifiers, giving you more bass output from less power. However, this efficiency comes at the expense of very low frequency output.
