Our take on the Monster SuperStar™ by Crutchfield's Ralph Graves
Phenomenal sound from a pocket-sized system
You might be able to completely cover the ultra-compact Monster SuperStar with your smartphone, but it won't cover up its surprisingly big sound. The SuperStar features two high-performance full-range drivers with both a front– and rear-facing bass radiator to help fill out the low end. Place the SuperStar face up, and the rear radiator uses the surface under it to further reinforce the bass.
Bluetooth connectivity for music and conversation
The SuperStar features aptX® audio coding, an advanced type of Bluetooth wireless streaming that retains virtually all the detail of the audio signal it carries. And the speaker is backwards-compatible with earlier forms of Bluetooth. So you can play your music wirelessly from almost any portable device and still enjoy outstanding sound.
When your paired smartphone receives a call, your SuperStar turns into a speakerphone. It features a built-in microphone that lets you enjoy your conversations hands-free.
Versatile and portable
The compact SuperStar slips easily into your pocket, backpack, or bag. Its rubberized surface resists moisture, and the raised icons on the command buttons make the SuperStar easy to operate just by feel.
A built-in battery gives you up to 5 hours of portable operation. To recharge, plug the included charging cable into the USB port of your computer or wall adapter. (not included) An auxiliary input lets you play non-Bluetooth portable devices through the speaker, too.

Features and Specs
|NFC Touch Pairing||No|
Overview: The Monster SuperStar is a portable wireless speaker that can connect via Bluetooth, USB, or a 3.5mm analog aux input. It has a built-in microphone so you can use it as a speakerphone when it is connected to your smartphone. The SuperStar is powered by a rechargeable battery, and comes with a USB cable and a cloth mesh carrying pouch.
Bluetooth Technology: The unit is compatible with Bluetooth 2.0 wireless technology or above, found in many computers, and most smartphones and Bluetooth music players. With aptX coding, you can hear your music in greater detail, compared to other Bluetooth speakers.
Drivers: The SuperStar is equipped with two stereo full-range drivers on the front panel, plus two 1.75" passive bass radiators--one on the front and one on the back. The speaker has angled edges, and is designed to be placed on its side so that the drivers are angled upward toward your ears.
Microphone: The built-in microphone on the top of the speaker features advanced noise cancellation to give you clear wireless hands-free calling.
Top-mounted Controls: The SuperStar features top-mounted controls for Power On/Off, Volume Up, Volume Down, and Bluetooth. The Bluetooth button has multiple uses. In addition to making the speaker available for pairing, you can also use the Bluetooth button to answer, reject, or end a phone call.
Audio Feedback: The SuperStar will provide audio confirmation feedback when you use certain controls. Functions that provide audio feedback include: Power On ("Power On"), Power Off ("Goodbye"), Bluetooth pairing available ("Pairing"), Bluetooth pairing completed ("Your device is connected."), and Incoming phone call (Your ringtone will be audible).
Audio Connections: There are three ways to connect the SuperStar to a playback device:
- Bluetooth: You can pair the SuperStar to most any audio device with Bluetooth, including music players, smartphones, tablets, and laptops.
- USB: You can connect the speaker directly to a playback device using the supplied USB cable. You should control the source volume on the connected device.
- 3.5mm Aux In: You can connect the SuperStar via the speaker's 3.5mm line input, located on the side of the device. A 3.5mm mini cable will be required. Playback and volume control should take place on the connected device.
Audio Priority: You can plug more than one item into the SuperStar at a time. The speaker will prioritize the audio sources so that the inputs won't overlap. Bluetooth connections have top priority, for both music playback and phone. USB has second priority when the speaker is plugged into a USB source (computer or portable device). Finally, devices plugged into the 3.5mm Aux Input have the lowest priority. Even if you're listening to music through the USB or 3.5mm inputs, you'll be able to hear an incoming call on a Bluetooth connected phone.
Power Requirements: The Monster SuperStar is powered by a Lithium-Ion rechargeable battery that provides enough power for over 5 hours of playback time. The battery charges via USB, either from a computer or a USB AC adapter.
Auto Off Mode: The unit has an Auto Off mode to save battery power. After 60 minutes, if no charging cable is attached, the unit will automatically turn itself off. If you're playing music or using the phone, the unit will not turn off.
