Filled the factory "hole ". I did add a couple of pieces of wood under the radio to offer more support. I felt the radio would bounce and possibly crack the dash kit. It looked clean when I finished.

Pros: Included with the new stereo and filled the hole

Cons: Wasn't sure if it offered enough support.

Bob from Painesville, OH on 3/22/2017

2000 Jeep Cherokee
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This dash kit was included free with my radio purchase. It fits great in my dash with my new stereo. Looks good too. However, it is very flimsy and my stereo flops around when I push buttons. I'm going to have to beef this up or put a shim of some sort in behind radio. I may have to break down and buy a kit. I had an aftermarket stereo in my other Cherokee and didn't have this problem with the different brand mounting kit.

Pros: looks great

Cons: flimsy

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Very soft flexible plastic and no support for the top left of the receiver. Installed in a 99 Cherokee and the top left corner pushes back into the dash every time you press a button on the receiver. I will probably go back into the dash and see if there is a way to reinforce that corner because I just don't like all that movement. at least this was a freebie with receiver purchase. I wouldn't want to pay for this kit.

Pros: price

Cons: stability

Dash kit makes installation simple

EBVL from Gloucester, VA on 9/20/2016

1998 Dodge Ram
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Was hesitant when found out that OEM radio was larger than standard replacements available. Customer Service assured me that the dash kit blank that surrounded the replacement would work fine. It did and fit into same screw hole patterns. Mine was matte black, which blended nicely with the gauges, A/C vents, and most other features on the dash. Unless you're looking for it, you don't even notice that the difference.

Pros: perfect fit and hides the larger space left by the OEM radio

Cons: None apparent

Not terribly impressed with the Metra Dash Kit

Ben from Moorhead, MN on 5/12/2016

2001 Jeep Cherokee
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I've used this in both a Wrangler and a Cherokee. In both cases once everything is installed you can push the top left corner and the whole metra dash kit and head unit will flex and push back - there is nothing supporting it behind the top left corner. There are other options that appear to be better and I'm considering replacing both of these with something a bit more structured.

Pros: free with a head unit.

Cons: not structurally supported in the top left corner and allows movement and flexing.

This is a plastic faceplate to mount an aftermarket head unit. It's not my first choice and I may scrap it in future if it doesn't hold well. At least I didn't pay that much for it.

Pros: Fits and mounts to stock dash, good price, ships fast.

Cons: Flimsy, cheap, no blackstrap mount, if you can use a pocket mount do that instead! I'm not super satisfied with this, I will have to modify so it holds up to dirt roads.

It does exactly what it is supposed to. My receiver fits securely into this and looks nice

Pros: A perfect fit. The color and finish are close enough to factory that it looks very nice. It came with phillips head screws so I can switch out the factory bolts that held the radio in place if I wanted to . . . and I did. Now I can use a single screwdriver to do the dash and radio removal if I want to make any changes in the future.

Cons: none. I have no negative issues to report at this time. The screw holes all matched up. The receiver fit perfectly into it. It felt like a good secure mount when the receiver was slid into place.

It works for what I needed, but is flimsy so if you push the buttons with a solid push, the radio shifts in the dash. Part of it is the mounting system, not fully securing the radio into the bracket (needs a more solid method of holding it). It does work, and I'm not so unhappy that I would take it out and replace it.

This filler component allowed us to install the standard radio into the factory space on our 95 Dodge Ram 1500. The piece looks like part of the original factory dash once installed. The plastic tabs align perfectly with the stock dash components to make installation very easy. Thanks! Jim

Does Not Support Dodge Ram Van Receiver

Jamie from California on 4/6/2015

1996 Dodge Ram 2500
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The website says this is what my 96 Dodge Ram Van needed. It does not hold the single din receiver. I had to go to a stereo shop, and the guy knew exactly which Metra dash kit I needed. Very similar but has brackets that support the stereo in the large space. Wasted money and had to go find the correct one. Bit of a bummer.

Pros: Probably works fine for the correct vehicle.

Cons: Did not work for my vehicle even though the online vehicle tool said it did. Only posting a review incase someone has a 96 Dodge Ram that needs a dash kit. Call for help first.

Crutchfield response on 4/14/2015 We have confirmed this was the correct kit for the Dodge RAM Van. It's a custom kit that Metra builds specifically for Crutchfield, and we've used it in many vehicles for years. The other kit that you purchased is most likely Metra's standard kit for these vehicles. It's more generic, so it'll work in even more vehicles, and can sometimes cause confusion during the installation. But either kit will do the job. When using this kit, be sure that you bend the tabs securely on the stereo's DIN sleeve (the metal cage included with your new stereo) in order to form a rigid mount. That will ensure that the stereo is held firmly in place. Meanwhile, since this kit didn't work out for you, we have refunded the price of it to your credit card.

Multi Jeeper from California on 4/5/2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

It's handy, and works... but There are things that could be better about it. For one, it needs to be stronger. Seems to flex more than I'd like. Might need some fibers added to the plastic mix to tighten it up. Next, I would pay more for a kit that cam with multiple mounting options. What if I wanted the head unit at the top of the adapter... or the bottom... ? I am stuck with it being right in the middle. If it was higher or lower, then I could mount some switches in the available space... or mount a jack or several, for a rear aux input, or USB input. Just seems like this adapter could have been far more developed and better designed.

Pros: Quick and easy

Cons: Lack of options Not as strong as I'd like

Usable

LKMcKee from Ashland, MO on 3/24/2014

1998 Dodge Caravan
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This will work for the stated application, but having used hits similar to these in the past, I was aware that if the installation space is large and the receiver has any weight to it, the receiver can move around a bit and seem unanchored in the rear and while the front looks good, touching and using the unit can make it seem very unsteady, so I did some searching and found a different adapter for my unit also made by Metra that has support and works awesome. This would probably work with a vehicle with less internal dash space but with my mini van... would be a nightmare.

Pros: nice finish ... looks great... fills gaps

Cons: No support for rear of receiver which is a must have if used in a larger vehicle.

This in dash kit came with the radio for my wife's Jeep Cherokee. It was easy to install and fit perfectly, after removing the dash trim that just pulls off starting at the bottom. You will need to put the car's shift lever in the low position to get the panel off if the shift is a console shift. Fallow the direction and it's a snap.

Pros: Easy to install. fits good , and looks good.

Exactly did what I needed it to do. Looks amazing. Was a little nervous I was sent the wrong part but then realized I had it upside down. Flipped it around and it fit great besides one tab. But the instructions did say to just break off the tab if it doesn't work for your setup. The screws provided didn't work for me but I just used the old ones which worked perfectly.

Pros: Looks great, Easy to install.

Cons: Could be more clear that tab may need to be broken off.

Was easy to install, heavy grade (thick) plastic.

Pros: It seems to be of really good quality and perfect fit on my 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Looks good in the dash. Was inexpensive....... Good bang for the buck.

Cons: The only support is the plastic frame..... There was nothing to support the back of the unit. I ended up lodging a piece of packaging foam under the back ok the radio unit to support it, since I run the Jeep pretty hard on some washboard back-roads. And now that I think of it, this (a rear support) probably should have come as part of the stereo & I shouldn't fault the frame.

This was for a friend and it fit perfectly. He had some color code issues and they were all on the material sheet that came with the kit. I have converted some friends to go with Crutchfield. I have purchased from them many years and have yet to find any negativity, tried but no success. Keep doing what you're doing and I will keep purchasing as long as the wife doesn't know lol.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This was a great fit on my 2000 Jeep Cherokee. It lined up correctly, had a clean look, and was an easy install. The only problem with it was Chrysler's fault. It can be bent in easily because of the two bolt configuration. Other than that, it held the radio in great and I'll probably come back to Crutchfield for more things I need.

Pros: Held radio in great, clean look

Cons: Chrysler configuration made top left corner able to be pushed in

Fit perfectly, no modifications required. DIN sleeve from radio fit perfectly, installed easily. The only "variant" I would prefer is an adapter that used one DIN space for the radio and provided a second DIN space as a storage "slot" or compartment. This device aligns single DIN radio in the center of the double DIN dash cutout. Very clean, professional, look.

Pros: Fit's perfectly. Easy installation.

Cons: Wastes one DIN space. (This device is used to fit a single DIN radio into a double DIN dash space.)

Install in 92 Plymouth Sundace Duster

CYJAK from Los Alamos, NM on 3/9/2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Easy install used original radio screws as they were larger and I felt made a more secure installation.

Pros: Easy install once you understood that the instruction were more of a general guide and you might need to adjust them to your vehicle.

Cons: Instructions covered many years of car models and thus what I had on removal wasn't what I expected. Description talked about a rear support strap but I found that there wasn't any in my car. The face plate had the radio support sleeve which you had to bend as many tabs as you could so the sleeve was securely attached to the face plate the radio then slid into the sleeve.

Cons: Too cheap. Not sturdy enough. If you have an expensive car, you might want to look for a higher-quality kit.

As low-tech as this looks, it worked very well in my 2000 XJ. You may have to add some rear support, as a single DIN unit is smaller than the stock radio and ends up "floating" on the back side. Even with that small issue, it's as the title says, simple but effective. Rated at 4 stars because there's always room for improvement.

Pros:

Cons:

Almost, but not quite...

Clark from Bellevue, NE on 6/28/2011

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The bracket fit the radio well, easy to install. But in the vehicle's dash, the lower left corner rides high on the dash sub-base. In order to even up the radio so it was stable, I added a small slice of rubber hose to the tab on the upper left to keep it from wobbling. The tab sits about 1/8" higher than the dash sub-base. Perhaps the '96 Dodge Ram dash is a bit different than most of the vehicle models the adapter plate is designed for. That's part of the problem with a single plate being used for many different years/models. Car companies try to "improve" their models, occasionally not necessarily for the best. Overall, not a bad fit, just not quite...

So, there really aren't any good instructions on how to install this so I'll explain: first take the sleeve of the new radio and line it up with this plate cover. There are small tabs of various shapes and sizes and you just have to bend them however you can to grip the adapter plate. Do not expect the tabs to line up exactly, they are 'universal fit' so will all line up differently when you bend them with a screwdriver or pliars. Then you simply screw in the adapter plate with the radio sleeve in your car dash as you would if you were putting the OEM radio back. The last thing to do is connect your harness and slide the new radio in the sleeve. The look is very clean - especially if your new radio goes nicely with your car interior.

The install kit (trim piece) fit perfectly. it looks good, fits like a glove... made the install really easy. Pretty much exactly what your looking for in an install trim kit.

Disappointed. Website says it fits. But not securely. Mounting brackets included in price. Good, but it offers NO support for the receiver.

It has been a long time since I have repalced a radio in one of my vehicles. This was very easy to use. It was a perfect fit for my truck. Looks good and JVC radio fit right in.

Glad I got this for my Pioneer DEH-P7200HD. Would have fit strangely in my '98 Dodge Dakota without it. The truck has a 1.5 DIN, and the head unit is a single DIN unit. This kit made the receiver fit nicely, and it looks like it belongs there! Perfect fit for the receiver too, once I bent the tabs on the sleeve to hold it in place.

Flimsy

Boy I don't like this thing............Hunting for a Scoshe now... I didn't realize that the chrysler install kit though "free" was such a substandard item. Thanks to that variable, the din sleeve that comes with the ALPINE (9887 mind you) HU has got every possible/probable tab bent out and the sleeve still rattles and doesn't fit securely. Because of this lack of information, The sleeve is hosed enough to NOT be used in a quality install and the bezel plate is just an incredibly thin, flimsy piece of abs..that I REFUSE to use. I don't care for probably trashing my din sleeve to find out this is not the way to go here. C'mon you guys, fix this and give us some options on this.....

Great fit for 1996 Dodge Ram 2500 Van

BillS from Sammamish, WA on 8/19/2010

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Fits perfect in my 1996 Dodge Ram Van 2500. This creates a clean look in the space that the original receiver was mounted. The original radio was about 1.5 din and this kit puts Sony CDX-GT700HD unit right in the center both horizontally and vertically. A 1.5 din receiver would have been perfect but since they don't make them any more, this is a good look. The receiver has a flip down and removable face so it sticks out from the surface of the dash more than the factory unit, but it is acceptable and has nothing to do with the faceplate but the receiver design. This is probably the same for most removable faceplates since you have to be able grip the faceplate to remove and install it. It a great bonus that Crutchfield throws in the faceplate for free when you buy the receiver.
