Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Makes the connection. With the pigtail out of the stereo this adapter and the antenna cable there is a lot of stiff wiring to stuff back in. a second shorter option would be good of there was a way to know which was needed when ordering. I also have very weak radio signals, I was blaming the new stereo as the old Bose unit had about twice the reception range. I'm out in the sticks not many stations out here. And a lot less now.

Pros:

Cons: Needs to be shorter for an application with a pigtail on the stereo.

I bought this to graft the Euro-style coax connector side of the cable to a standard RCA plug so I could try to hook up my 2011 Ram 2500 back-up camera to a Kenwood DDX898. I purchased the Kenwood to replace an old stock, outdated touch screen but Crutchfield FAILED to tell me that the expensive adapter kit I bought with it did not interface my existing camera to the Kenwood. The adapter is fine.

Poorly made product. The white plastic insert on the adaptor has casting flash which can easily bend the outer contacts on the factory antenna plug. The black mating plug isn't aligned well. I pulled that off after bending contacts back into position and installed it, then I carefully inserted the adaptor to properly seat it. Once that was done, it worked as advertised. However I'll like never use Metro products again.

Pros: Works once you understand that it's poorly made and you need to carefully remove casting flash and install as I did above.

Cons: Stated above

John from Hurricane, WV on 1/29/2017

2009 Chrysler Town and Country
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Purchased to install a Sony radio to a 2009 Chrysler Town & Country. The connector to the radio was fine, but the connection to the car's antenna didn't fit quite right. It looked like a match to the connector that was removed from the factory radio, but it wouldn't snap in. The plastic seemed a little off. We pushed it together as hard as we could and used electrical tape to hold them together. The radio reception was crystal clear and it seems to be functioning well; hopefully the tape holds over time. Noticed I'm not the only one with this issue on a Chrysler/Dodge van type vehicle. An earlier review by Biser from NY had the same exact issue on their 2013 Dodge Grand Caravan. This must be a Chrysler issue and Metra should look into this.

Pros: - Crystal clear reception - Fit the Sony receiver perfectly

Cons: - Plastic clip connector wouldn't snap in the 2009 Chrysler Town & Country - Ended up having to use electrical tape to hold the parts together

Worked as intended. Just be very careful when inserting the vehicle end of the adapter as it is very easy to bend the outer contacts if you just push it together, you need to give it a little twist as you push it together to allow everything to line up.

Pros: positive way to adapt the antenna from factory to aftermarket radio

Cons: Just be careful to not bend the outer pins on the plug

High quality. Perfect fit. I had no idea my factory head unit had a "European" antenna connection. The Metra antenna adapter came with the Crutchfield installation kit for my Pioneer head unit, allowing me to connect my antenna to the standard "US" antenna connection in the Pioneer unit.

It worked after a bit of customization. As it comes it's almost impossible to plug in the special connector to the existing car antenna! Have to carefully cut out about 1/4" of the plastic around the metal plug to be able to plug it in! Bad design! You can easily damage your car antenna connector just by trying to plug it in even if you're really careful! I can provide pictures or video later!

CJ from Midwest on 8/30/2016

2004 BMW 3 Series
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this antenna and had it professionally installed on my 2004 BMW 3 series with a new Pioneer DEH-X8800BHS head unit. I now get no radio stations. Zero. The installer warned me when I picked up my vehicle that this was the case. As it turns out, after market radios may skimp on the radio tuner quality because they need room for lots of other components (USB, Bluetooth, etc). Apparently, it is a good idea to buy an amplified antenna when replacing a stock head unit. I love my new stereo's Bluetooth functions but I didn't expect to spend $380 and be left with no radio stations. Since the installer didn't have the appropriate amplified adapter handy, I am back to the drawing board to look for amplified antenna adapters....

Pros: Cheap

Cons: Does not work if you need amplification

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Ok... so it's just an antenna adapter, but when you're doing an installation... every step is important. If this wasn't 100% right, I would have to return/re-order the part and spend another day to finish the install. Everything fit properly, no static, and the build quality was good. The good folks at Crutchfield used their magical software to find the correct adapter for my deck. To boot, I paid about 1/2 what those scoundrels at the big-box store were trying to charge. I felt like I got the right product for the right price and all was right in the world.

Pros: Perfect.

Cons: Zero complaints or critiques.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

When I first tried the new head unit I installed I could not get very good reception from my antenna. After some investigation I realized the adapter was not making very good contact with the vehicle's connector. The connector was a bit flimsy and bent even with minimal pressure into the connector. After some fiddling I was able to make good contact and overall the adapter works well.

Pros: When installed well it works fine

Cons: A bit flimsy so extra care is needed to make connections.

KoreyK from Olathe, KS on 10/27/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This item works fine, as expected. I don't know why they need to make this item so long. This makes it difficult yo tuck all the wires behind the aftermarket HU --- as it is always a tight fit. If the OE antenna reached the OE stereo, it will reach an aftermarket stereo as well. Thus, this item doesn't need to be so long.

Pros: Works

Crutchfield response on 5/14/2014 After speaking with the customer, our tech support team discovered that his truck was a "transition vehicle" which used some parts from the previous model year (not uncommon when truck manufacturers update body styles). He actually needed the harness for the 2006 Durango, which we promptly sent to him. There would've been no way to know this ahead of time until actually removing the radio.

This came with my order of a Pioneer FH-X700BT for our 2008 Town And Country van. It works exactly as you'd expect and allows you to pull in AM/FM stations. I couldn't be happier with it.

Pros: Works exactly as you expect

Cons: It is idiot proof but this idiot was still able to improperly install it the first time. FM stations came in in my garage but stopped after a couple of days as the cable had not been pushed far enough into the Chrysler harness. I had to take things apart and do it right the second time.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I got one for free with my stereo purchase. I had problems getting the square plastic end to connect to the truck. I felt I really had to force it just to get a signal. Called tech support and confirmed I had the right adapter and was told if I could not get it to work they would send me a new one. When I tried to disconnect it, the cable pulled out of the plastic housing. I wanted the stereo to be complete that day so I just ran to a local electronics store and bought a new one (identical to the one they sent with the stereo). The new one connected easily and was a perfect fit without using any force. Signal is crystal clear and seem to get the same reception I had on the factory system. I'm assuming the first one I got was defective????

Pros: The 2nd one I bought was very simple plug in and go. Good reception

Cons: Defective product for the first one, but hey for the price, I can't complain too much... Seems like it is cheaply made and will be a hit or miss product.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I can't really rate this item so I gave it a 3. I have a 2013 Ram 1500 and wanted to change out the factory unit because it didn't come with a CD player. I purchased through Crutchfield a Pioneer DEH-X8500BH deck (WHICH IS AWESOM!) and this was the antenna adapter they sent with it. It did not work however. I looked on Metra's website and they say to use their 40-EU55 European antenna adapter. I found a store in town that had it and it worked fine, I was able to tune in both FM and AM band stations with it. I have no ill will toward Crutchfield, Chrysler is more to blame I think since they try to make it so hard to use aftermarket products on their vehicles which makes it hard for companies like Crutchfield to research what products work and what ones don't. Crutchfield did return my money for the purchase as well.

wMatteo from KC, KS on 5/22/2013

2012 Dodge Avenger
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is antenna is complete JUNK! It technically fits, and converts the antenna from my 2012 Dodge Avenger to my Pioneer AVH-X8500BHS head unit - but gets no-to-hardly-any reception - at best, you can pick up static on 99% of the stations, and maybe one location station, and at worst (normally this is what you get) you get nothing but static. If I pull out the head unit, and play w/the cable, I can sometimes get some reception, but it's just terrible. There are no lose connections - it's as tight as it could be on both ends, so that's not the issue - I can get perfect reception by just connecting plain speaker wires from the old antenna to the receptacle on receiver - so I know it all works - this adapter just FAILS THAT BAD! Look at all the other reviewers with the same problem and DO NOT BUY!

Pros: NONE! It's wasted more of my time that it was worth to buy or ship back - will not be getting any more "recommended" adapters from crutchfield again after this purchase.

Cons: EVERYTHING! You'll get better results not using any adapter than trying to use this garbage!

Needed this to put a Kenwood Excelon KDC-X696 in my BMW E46. The length of it made it a little difficult to slide the radio in. It kept getting in the way, and I had to take out my AC controls to maneuver the radio in. Also, I had to tape the connection that plugged into the radio because it kept sliding out. The cable is stiff and doesn't bend very well. I would've been happier with an adapter plug. I didn't look into other options & left it up to Crutchfield.

Pros: Fit my radio.
