This vehicle-specific wiring harness makes connections between your new car stereo and your car's electrical system.
First, attach the color-coded wires on your Crutchfield-supplied harness to the wires from your new stereo. If you're not using a soldering iron, we recommend that you purchase some wire connectors to secure the connections. Check out our handy article on three ways to connect the wiring harness here.
Now, once this harness is connected to your new stereo, you'll be able to plug right into your car's factory radio connector. This harness makes installing your new stereo easier, and allows you to put the factory radio back when you sell your vehicle or return it at the end of the lease. A detailed instruction sheet comes with the harness. Warranty: 60 days.
Please read this important note: This harness may not contain provisions for every wire needed to complete your installation, and it will not accommodate special navigation, video, or factory steering wheel control connections. You will need a special adapter if you want your factory steering wheel audio controls to work with your new stereo.
Note: Most vehicles will require additional installation parts please identify your vehicle if you haven’t done so. You can also call an Advisor for more information.
Average Customer Review(s):
worked out great along with the detailed instructions.
These things are great. A couple minutes with a wire stripper and solder iron, and you're in business, and you keep the factory wiring! Instructions are great and they even spelled out the differences for my oddball saab.
Pros: Quick, easy, reliable, able to revert to factory when you need.
Not much to say. It's labeled well and does the job right. Easy peasy!
Pros: Standard color coded and labeling.
Didn't fit my 1996 Saab 9000 at all.
Cons: Did not fit my car.
Beautifully crafted audio harness.. truly a blessing in disguise!
Perfecct companion for my VW Jetta OEM harness to JVC receiver. The wiring colors matched the JVC pigtail colors perfectly - no guessing. THANKS!
No muss, no fuss. This wiring harness adapter made the install of my son's new head unit in his 2002 GTI a snap.
Pros: This wiring harness adapter made the installation of the the new head unit I put in my son's 2002 GTI a snap.
Cons: The online advisor tool specified a different and incorrect harness. I called tech support and they sent out two different replacements just to be safe.
While this would fit my car if I cut off the 12 speaker wires at the amplifier and extended them to under the dash as recommended by your tech dept I found a harness (Metra 70-1785) that would allow me to plug directly to the car wires without cutting any. Your tech dept should have known this. Very disappointed.
This harness fits very easily into the factory wiring. The clip to release the harness is not sharp or hard to activate when disconnecting the wiring. Sufficient cabling provided to ensure you could reuse the harness a few times in the event that you change your aftermarket radio again. It worked well on my 1997 VW GTI
Pros: - Cable length is good - Sturdy construction
Super easy to use and provided free with the radio a plus!
Connected to both perfectly.
Pros: So easy.
Does not fit my 1996 Saab 9000 factory harness connectors. I was forced to cut off my connectors.
Pros: For this application, none
Cons: Does not fit
Diagram and instructions were perfect. Worked first time.
Pros: Easy to connect to car and radio.
Oh my. Crutchfield customer service is knowledgeable and incredibly helpful. I was blown away. This harness worked perfect on my 2000 e class wagon without Bose audio.
Pros: Customer service
Good product. Does what it says...
Pros: Does what it says
Very detailed info concerning hookup for my Jetta
Pros: easy to follow instructions
I imagine that if it were the correct produce it would have worked. Looks great out of the package. Unfortunately, this was the second wrong product I bought due to an error by the Crutchfield fitment department. Don't trust it, know what your application is before purchasing.
Pros: Looks good out of the package.
Cons: Wrong product due to Crutchfield fitment guide.
Excellent! I wired my car stereo ALL by myself! I showed it to a prof installation shop while checking on speaker wiring issues and they thought it was excellent! They asked me where I got the harness. I said Crutchfield. He then said that is where they got them as well!
Pros: Very easy just take your time, one wire at a time. Make sure to get the correct sized connectors and I added a small piece of electrical tape around each connector.
I received the product on time, the sales person that helped me was very patient and knowledgeable. I told him I wish, I would know about them a long time ago. Their professional advice and support, anytime you need it,is matchless. I thank you and the wonderful staff.
Simple to use product.
Pros: easy install
It was perfect it fit great and works well! So hard to find for these model cars and they had it, also got here in 1 day!
Made installation a snap. Highly recommend the adapter. I used to hard wire in but this is perfect.
Thank you for this wire harness it made my job so much easier. I was ready to pay someone to do it for me until you told me about this wire harness. It was very easy to do with your help. Thanks for saving me $150.00, that I can now use to buy new speakers from you.
If you are lucky enough of having the factory wiring of the original stereo in your car, this harness is a headache reducer, it allowed me to connect a newer stereo without the mess. The instructions sheet included made it very easy to identify all wires.
Pros: Makes installation very easy and fast
Cons: It's useful only if your car has the original stereo warning, which is very rare.
Not a big DIYer but Crutchfield made it easier.... definately the right part, the perfect harness for a 97 Cabrio. Fit right into the already in there harnesses. They could include (and charge) for the end caps of connecting wires to wires but those were easy to get at local shop.
Pros: Perfectly the right harness to my Cabiro!
Cons: Could have included the end caps for connecting wires of the harness to the wires of my new stereo unit. Wires were not an exact "color" match but were close enough that I got it right.
Did not work , I have the factory Harmon Kardon system and could not get my Dual HD radio to play.
Cons:Crutchfield response on 4/16/2013 We forwarded this review to our Technical Support team for follow-up. Lifetime tech support comes with every Crutchfield purchase.
This worked seamlessly with my VW. Made installation extremely easy.
Pros: Perfect fit and for my vehicle. Easy to connect to new head unit.
Good enough quality and I appreciate the effort, but it does not fit my car (1987 VW Scirocco 16V). The wiring colors were completely different. Being an antique, I was not surprised and just spliced into the harness as it had been cut in the past. Thanks anyways!
Pros: Probably workswell when it fits your application, no needto cut the harness connector off.
Cons: Didn't work on my vehicle.
The only problem was I had to call 4 times to get the correct alternate wiring configuration for my car. But otherwise it was a Perfect fit.
Pros: Plugged right in
Cons: It just needed a little bit better way of saying some car might need to use alternate wires.
Makes things alot easier when you do it yourself :)
A previous review stated that it didn't fit a 1995 Defender and I almost didn't purchase the harness. I can't speak for the '95 model year, but it fit my 1994 D90 perfectly once the amp was removed.
This works just fine. Not great but just fine. Before installing the head unit harness make sure all of the tabs are secure and the wires are not loose. Also, for those with factory amps, don't forget to connect the blue wire to the trigger
Pros: The wires are long enough
Cons: The directions barely cover the basics, completely missing out on some important details
It worked as it is supposed to. However, it was noted that certain cars need to change the red and yellow wire. Mine needed that, but was not listed, so it took some trial and error.
This proved to be the missing link in an involved installation
Pros: Was able to get the radio working
the harness does not fit a 1995 land rover defender
Wire harness worked fine though the master sheet said I had to cut my vehicles original harness into 2 pieces, good thing I didn't and checked to see if it fit beforehand.
Made my install go in minutes. I prewired my stereo plug to this one and it was as easy as just plugging it in. It saved me hours of work.
The instructions were clear and the harness was a match for my 1996 Saab 900 SE fatctory radio.
This harness also fits the Lotus Elise/Exige 2005+ cars which use the VW DIN harness.
I contacted Crutchfield and told sales rep that the wire harness i need should be black and red connectors. Red connector was larger then a black connector. He said rest assured I will get you the right kit. And what do you know? I received a wrong kit. I bought another wire harness kit locally and those guys will not replace it with the correct kit. At least Cratchfield is trying to replace it with the correct kit. Then again i cant say correct until i try it on my car.
I was very pleased with this product. I just matched the colors of the wires with the wires from my radio, soldered them together and it worked. Thank You Crutchfield for all the great things you offer!!
Color coded wiring made connecting the harness kit foolproof. I really liked the fact that I could pre-wire the harness before bringing the radio out to the car. I just had to pop the old radio out. Plug the connectors in. and slide the new radio in place.
I specified that i had the HK factory system, and this does not work with it. instead, i had to take the speaker wires coming from the back of it and solder RCA's on them to plug into my aftermarket deck. using just the speaker wires will fry the factory amp.
This harness was shipped with a JVC head unit. Unfortunately, it does NOT work with a 993 Porsche (1996) with the 8 speaker HI FI stereo option as it does not support the proper speaker connections. Crutchfield had to ship another wiring harness which I had to modify to work.
This harness was easy to hook up and the instructions were straight forward. Anyone who is uneasy about installing their new stereo themselves (like I was) rest assure that this harness made it so easy...I actually couldn't believe how easy it was. I stalled 2 stereos that I bought from Crutchfield with no issues and I knew that if I got stuck the Crutchfield Technical Support Advisors were there for me. This harness gets 4 out of 5 stars because the "Orange" (lighting) wire on one of the harness's was loose. I was able to get a small flathead screwdriver into the small wire connector space and "crimp" the wire back in, not ideal, but it has been working for a month. If it were not for the loose wire issue it would have received 5 stars.
Easy to use, wires are pre cut at the ends, so there's no need for stripping. Wires are a quite bit longer than they really need to be, but I guess that's better than too short.
Crutchfield Wiring Harness: Crutchfield wiring harnesses prevent you from having to cut your vehicle's factory radio plug when replacing your factory radio with an aftermarket head unit. Simply solder or crimp the Crutchfield wiring harness to your aftermarket head unit's harness (solder & crimps not included), plug the aftermarket head unit's plug into the rear chassis of the aftermarket head unit, and plug the Crutchfield wiring harness into your vehicle's factory radio plug.
Note: Installation tools, hardware, & accessories are not included & sold separately. Please see the Accessories tab for recommendations & availability.
Wiring Notes: If the Crutchfield wiring harness is not equipped with a ground wire, you will need to ground the aftermarket head unit's ground wire to the metal chassis of your vehicle. Some vehicle's may require you to bypass the vehicle's factory amplifier (in another location from factory radio) or hardwire certain connections. If your vehicle is equipped with factory steering wheel controls, an additional adapter is required and sold separately.
