Metra 70-1761 receiver wiring harness

This vehicle-specific wiring harness adapter makes connections between your new car stereo and your car's electrical system. It works with select 1987-up Toyota, Lexus, Scion, Subaru, and Geo vehicles.

First, attach the color-coded wires on your Crutchfield-supplied harness to the wires from your new stereo. If you're not using a soldering iron, we recommend that you purchase some wire connectors to secure the connections. Check out our handy article on three ways to connect the wiring harness here.

Now, once this harness is connected to your new stereo, you'll be able to plug right into your car's factory radio connector. This harness saves installation time since you won't have to cut factory wires individually, and it also enables you to re-install the factory radio if needed. A detailed instruction sheet comes with the harness. Warranty: 60 days.

Please read this important note: This harness may not contain provisions for every wire needed to complete your installation, and it will not accommodate special navigation, video, or factory steering wheel control connections. You will need a special adapter if you want your factory steering wheel audio controls to work with your new stereo.

Connections:

  • 12V constant power
  • 12V switched power
  • chassis ground
  • power antenna turn-on
  • dimmer
  • left front speaker +/-
  • right front speaker +/-
  • left rear speaker +/-
  • right rear speaker +/-

Note: Most vehicles will require additional installation parts — please identify your vehicle if you haven’t done so. You can also call an Advisor for more information.

Functional but disappointing

alan from IL on 2/24/2017

2007 Toyota Tacoma
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Disappointed with the "Metra 70-1761 Receiver Wiring Harness" I recently purchased. This was used to install a Sony CDXGT62IPW stereo in a 2007 Toyota Tacoma double cab. The color codes matched perfectly between the instruction sheets for both the Metra adapter and the Sony unit. Once installed, the speaker controls were completely wrong. (Balance controlled front to rear... Fade controlled left to right) Crutchfield telephone support confirmed the the adapter was indeed assembled correctly from the factory. The Sony worked perfectly in the Chevy I removed it from. Must be a Toyota issue. I suppose I could accept this because I rarely use these functions.

Pros: Clear wiring instructions and color codes

Cons: Not quite right in my Tacoma

Super easy to use. Make radio installation "Plug and Play". You simply connect all the same colored wires (i.e. yellow to yellow, orange to orange, etc.) and they you just plug in your new radio. Much, Much easier than cutting up your factory wiring and then doing a bunch of splices.

Pros: Easy to use. Don't have to cut up your factory wiring. Makes radio installation "Plug and Play"

Cons: None really. Crutchfield includes them for free, so you can't even complain about the price.

This wiring harness made the install of a Boss head unit plug and play. I soldered the wire ends to the wires of the Boss harness and it literally just clicked in place. There were some left over wires for vehicles with more features than ours but this was not a problem. Just wrapped with tape.

Harness worked great. The green wire from the stereo that needs to be connected to the parking brake was fun to figure out.

Pros: Wired up well. No issues.

Cons: If your stereo has a green parking brake wire then you will need to look up online how to install it. Maybe some additional instruction in the install guide on the need to review manufacturers instructions for installing a parking brake wire. Otherwise, all was good.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I am a novice at all this. This was my first time installing anything in my car. I used this harness in a '98 Camry to install a Pioneer DEH-X7800BHS. The install was simple and all of the parts connected perfectly. I took a few minutes to attach all of the well color coded wires, and then just snapped in place. This was a great piece of equipment, and a simple install.

Pros: Color coded, all parts fit properly

Cons: They had taped off the end of the blue (remote control) wire, but did not include a reason why. I called Crutchfield and they told me to simply strip the end and attach it to my harness' blue wire, but they could have saved me a call if they'd just explained why it was different than the others.

I got this harness for a 1999 Toyota 4Runner where I replaced the factory deck with a Pioneer deck. My review of the Pioneer is elsewhere. While I understand that there is a need for an adapter to bridge the existing factory wiring harness with a replacement deck, what I don't understand is having to spend over an hour wire stripping and soldering over 30 wires to connect the wiring harness with the deck's wiring harness. Why not just supply an adapter that already does the job vs forcing the user to solder all those wires? Luckily I'm pretty experienced with a soldering gun but for those out there who are not, it's something than can easily be rectified at the retail level.

Works, heavy duty enough wire and well labled, just don't be lazy, use solder and heat shrink tubing.

Pros: Good gauge wire, well labled.

Cons: Can't think of any, maybe make a steering wheel control plug too to help folks installing axis steering wheel controls.

The kit fit my Toyota 4Runner SR5 perfectly. There was an extra (3rd) wire harness and extra (2nd) antenna wire connected to my stock head unit that were not allowed for with this kit. I called Crutchfield and the technician knew immediately what to do with it - very responsive and helpful. The extra harness is for the rear entertainment system and was just left unconnected (as well as the extra antenna attachment). The other harness fit and work perfectly. The harness was great, but Crutchfield Customer Service is what truly sets them apart from any competition.

Pros: Good fit, Great customer support

It is an adapter that is definitely needed. I had hoped to disconnect the older Sony receiver and simply attach the new one, since I had used a similar adapter in the past. But, Sony changed their connector type and I had to do it all over again. The cables state on them what each one is used for. Unfortunately the Sony cables do not state anything. Anyhow, once this issue is solved it is a simple mix and match. The adapter works fine and as far as I know they last a lifetime.

Pros: Easy to use...

Cons: ... if you know which cable of the Sony receiver connects to the corresponding cable of the adapter.

When I 1st removed my factory radio in my 00 Toyota Tundra, I thought Crutchfield had sent me the wrong harness. My stock radio had a large 20 pin connector and this harness had two smaller connectors. A quick call to tech support and they explained that once the factory amp was removed, this harness clips into that connection and the factory radio connector is no longer needed. They were right! Once wired this to the replacement radio it plugged right into my Tundras wiring harness and everything works like it should

I bought this wiring harness to help with swapping out my factory stereo with a replacement stereo. No cutting was required...simply match the colored cables to the same colored cables on the new receiver. Wiring up the new receiver was the easiest part of the whole project thanks to this harness.

Pros: Color coded wires take the guesswork out of what goes where, tips of wires are already pre-cut so that you can just pull off the bit of sleeve and not have to use a wire stripper

Definitely makes installation easier and I wouldnt install one without it if I didnt have to. I'm surprised the plugs fit behind the unit. There were a couple wires that were marked differently, some that werent for every car, and one set of instructions says to connect the black (ground) wire to the chassis, the other says to connect it to the other black wire. I called to clarify all these things but really they were pretty intuitive. I did not know it did not include wire nuts so I had to reassemble the car enough to go to the hardware store.

Your company's expert staff advised me perfectly. This supplied product worked great for conjoining the car's existing wiring harness with that of the new head unit. The harness being pre-stripped out of the package cut down on the assembly time which was almost no time at all. My use of the product's color coded wires were appropriate with only one question of a proper connection which your knowledgeable Tech support service handled with me post haste. This device had an appropriately snug fit with an audible click of a good connection. The wire length was appropriate for joining all the leads and its function test prior to placing the head unit back into the dash and buttoning it up.

Pros: appropriate device for the purpose of attaching a new head unit to replace the factory installed equipment

Cons: Shortly after opening the package and assembling one wire at a time, you're done, and there is nothing more to crimp, twist, or solder (ha ha)

Awesome, awesome vehicle specific wire harness. Thanks Crutchfield. Installation would not have been the ease it was without harness. And was included with the head unit purchase from Crutchfield.

Pros: Super easy and perfect match.

Cons: None

excellent adapter, no issues at all

Pros: Plugs right into your factory harness, nothing to cut. Everything is color coded just like the aftermarket radio so you just match up the colors and your done.

Cons: none
