Overview

This vehicle-specific wiring harness makes connections between your new car stereo and your car's electrical system.

Metra 70-1771 Receiver Wiring Harness

This vehicle-specific wiring harness makes connections between your new car stereo and your car's electrical system.

First, attach the color-coded wires on your Crutchfield-supplied harness to the wires from your new stereo. If you're not using a soldering iron, we recommend that you purchase some wire connectors to secure the connections. Check out our handy article on three ways to connect the wiring harness here.

Now, once this harness is connected to your new stereo, you'll be able to plug right into your car's factory radio connector. This harness saves installation time since you won't have to cut factory wires individually, and this also enables you to re-install the factory radio if needed. A detailed instruction sheet comes with the harness. Warranty: 60 days.

Please read this important note: This harness may not contain provisions for every wire needed to complete your installation, and it will not accommodate special navigation, video, or factory steering wheel control connections. You will need a special adapter if you want your factory steering wheel audio controls to work with your new stereo.

Connections:

  • 12V constant power
  • 12V switched power
  • chassis ground
  • signal ground — connects to same receiver wire as the chassis ground
  • illumination
  • dimmer
  • left front speaker +/-
  • right front speaker +/-
  • left rear speaker +/-
  • right rear speaker +/-

Note: Most vehicles will require additional installation parts — please identify your vehicle if you haven’t done so. You can also call an Advisor for more information.

This makes the install so easy! Just match the colors to the radio and insulate your connections. I used solder and 3M super 88 but you could use butt connectors or heat shrink if you wanted. I can not imagine doing it any other way. Anything else would probably be harder and not work nearly as well

Pros: Wire colors matched. Well made. Easy to use

Cons: Can not think of a single one!

I have never liked having to cut and splice a cars wiring harness, this product makes the installation so much easier and cleaner. I will continue to use these harness for all my installs.

Pros: No cutting of factory wiring harness. You make all the connections to the replacement harness out side the dash which is so much easier.

I thought this would be a stock to Pioneer plug to plug. Seems silly to still have to cut wires and crimp them together.

Pros: It plugs into at least on side. And it was free.

Cons: Doesn't plug into the other side. You still need to cut and crimp wires together. Yeah it saved me about 10 minutes of online research to determine what does what. If it wasn't free I sure wouldn't pay for it.

Makes splicing into the stereo harness simple. The pre-stripped portions though cut into some the wires' strands. Could possibly increase the wire resistance, but I don't know if that would really do anything in this type of use.

Perfect! the colors matched up perfect with the radio I purchased, I did verify each one to be sure with the radio instructions and the Metra manual but it just worked I can believe how easy it was.

Pros: did exactly what it was designed to do. I had an extra plug on the back of the radio, I called support and as I thought it was for a feature that did not exist on the truck, Perfect all the way around

Don't know what you'd say about the relative merits of a wiring harness, really -- it's either the right one for the job or it isn't. ;) That's where Crutchfield comes in, of course. I've had the need for several of these things over the past few decades -- and Crutchfield, whether by catalog chart, by phone support, or nowadays by website, always gets it right. They've made one and only one mistake, and they made good on it very quickly.

A simple harness to install

Dale from Stillwater, OK on 1/12/2017

2002 Ford F-150
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

As a person who has been involved with Boeing aircraft harnesses, as well as international communication wiring and US Dept of Defense electrical devices where designers seem to want to make things far more complicated than they need to be, it is a joy to deal with a receiver harness designed for simplicity. This harness was very easy to install, and a novice should be able to work with it as long as they can read and understand printed instructions.

Pros: Well marked wires making for ease of connecting. Without this harness, few people would be able to get the receiver to function.

This item came as part of the installation kit that was recommended and provided at a deep discount. I was able to connect this harness to the harness include with the head unit prior to giving the head unit as a gift. The wires were clearly marked and of a good quality. I was able to solder the two harnesses together quite easily. I installed the head unit last night and the wiring harness was a perfect fit for my vehicle all the lights and sounds seem to be functioning properly so far.

Pros: plug and play, easy to solder, clear markings on wires both color and print. adapter fit easily into factory harness for quality fit

Perfect wire color and fit match between my 1999 Ford truck and the new Pioneer MVH-X390BT head I installed.

Pros: It helped make the install cleaner and faster. Wire colors matched across the board to the new stereo head.

Cons: Minor: When you connect this to your Ford, the connection will be smooth and fitted. BUT the lock tab may be firm, and take a little work to disconnect. I like to test-fit my connectors before the final install, and that's how I learned about this.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Makes interfacing your new non-OEM radio/stereo to your vehicle simple. You can use crimp splices, but I always recommend soldering connections. The manufacturer appears to try to match industry standards, but their use of gray and green colors that are very close in shading make it difficult for those of us who have red-green color blindness (deuteranomaly). If Pioneer can use colors that are better distinguished, then so can Metra. I could easily determine the green and gray wires of the Pioneer unit.

Pros: Makes connecting your new stereo to your vehicle easy

Cons: drab coloring and poor separation of green/gray coloring may make use difficult for red-green color blindness

So easy to put in my new Head Unit with this. Soldered and Heat Shrinked the wires on this plug to the wires on the Head Units Plug (all the colors match to make it even easier!). Then it was just plug in and go when actually installing in the truck. So simple!

Pros: Color code matched the new Head Unit exactly. Put them together and solder (or crimp if you prefer) and you are ready to install.

Cons: None!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Nice piece of wiring. Easy to use. Colors matched up to stereo I was installing perfectly. I only wish it included materials to join the wires. I ended up soldering them together because I didn't have enough crimp connectors on hand and couldn't go get more because the dash was all open already. Also, disappointed it doesn't include connections for sub-woofer, which I have, but can't use right now. It would be nice to have a listing of the Ford Sport Trac wire colors to make sure everything was matching up properly.

Pros: Wire colors matched up to stereo and the connector matched up to the Ford Sport Trac wiring.

Cons: No wiring connection pieces. No sub-woofer connection option. Need listing of vehicle wiring colors to verify proper match-up.

Harness is awesome, makes for an easy install. Packaging and the individual wires clearly tells you what each wire is for. I soldered and heat shrinked all connections I used. I only used the power connections since I am using amps. Non used wires were capped with heat shrink tubing to avoid any possible shorts. I finised the headunit harness and this harness with black gaphing tape, only a little and not too tight to make things neat.

Pros: Clearly labeled what each wire is for.

Cons: No cons.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Very easy to identify which wires went to which connections on my radio. Pre-cut plastic sleeving was great, all I had to do was slide off that portion when I was ready to hook up. My only issue, and this is just nit-picky because I have never dealt with wiring, and this is the first time I have ever installed / replaced a car radio; I could not find anywhere on the wires or package what size the wire was. So when I went to buy connectors I was unsure what I was supposed to get. Of course it didn't help that the local hardware store (not a BBS) employee had no idea how to tell so I had to go to the next town over to find help in that regard.

Pros: Color coded wiring, pre-cut sleeving

Cons: Would be nice if wire size was on the package or on wire.

This was great to have and a BIG THANK YOU!!! to the guys at Crutchfield for helping me trouble shoot the problem with the connector. The instructions were a little less then friendly but the support I was able to get made connecting the correct wires simple. The instructions said to ground out the black wire to the frame but in fact I was supposed to connect it to the other Black wire from the stereo and the Orange wire is supposed to mate with the Orange/with White stripe on Pioneer units.

The harness works great and certainly simplifies the install. If you have a 2004 F250, be warned the illumination wire in your truck goes to a variable voltage source, the dash board dimmer switch, and will not work properly with your radio. Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Very nice product. Fits the stock wiring harness the way it should. Not all colors matched, but if you're even remotely intelligent, you'll be able to figure it out. You just have to match the wires to their function, not color. The instructions state this very clearly

Pros: It works

Cons: Come on Metra, don't be so cheap - supply a couple of white cap connectors. It won't kill the profit. Come on. You can do it.

Works great

This was the perfect interface cable to go from the new radio to the factory electrical harness. Be sure to follow the instructions as the color coding of the factory harness may not be identical to the interface cable, but the instructions walk you through the process

Pros: Perfect solution

Cons: None
