Overview

This vehicle-specific wiring harness makes connections between your new car stereo and your car's electrical system.

Metra 70-1858 receiver wiring harness

This vehicle-specific wiring harness makes connections between your new car stereo and your car's electrical system.

First, attach the color-coded wires on your Crutchfield-supplied harness to the wires from your new stereo. If you're not using a soldering iron, we recommend that you purchase some wire connectors to secure the connections. Check out our handy article on three ways to connect the wiring harness here.

Now, once this harness is connected to your new stereo, you'll be able to plug right into your car's factory radio connector. This harness saves installation time since you won't have to cut factory wires individually, and this also enables you to re-install the factory radio if needed. A detailed instruction sheet comes with the harness. Warranty: 60 days.

Please read this important note: This harness may not contain provisions for every wire needed to complete your installation, and it will not accommodate special navigation, video, or factory steering wheel control connections. You will need a special adapter if you want your factory steering wheel audio controls to work with your new stereo.

Connections:

  • 12V constant power
  • 12V switched power
  • chassis ground
  • power antenna turn-on
  • dimmer
  • left front speaker +/-
  • right front speaker +/-
  • left rear speaker +/-
  • right rear speaker +/-

Note: Most vehicles will require additional installation parts — please identify your vehicle if you haven’t done so. You can also call an Advisor for more information.

The harness was easy to connect with the radio.

I've played with wiring harness before. If you have half the mind to take out an old stereo, to place in a new one, take the time and do it right. Electrical tape isn't the right way. Got it wired into the Grand AM GT with no problems. Red and Orange wire to the red from the vehicle.

Pros: Anyone can do this.

Cons: Unless you have an issue with being color blind. Violet and Purple are quite confusing. Thank God for the nine year old.

Doesnt work on my application

Thomas E from Conklin, MI on 4/22/2017

2001 Pontiac Grand Prix
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Not good for a Grand Prix with the Bose sound system. Lacks steering wheel button wires in the main harness and doesnt have the 2nd radio harness with the factory amp wires. Crutchfield support told me to wire the REM wire to the power antenna wire. My car doesnt even have a power antenna. An online forum group got me the right wire through but I had to cut it off the plug so no going back now. Now im gonna have to do the same for my steering wheel control adapter because the harness lacks those wires too. And with the Crutchfield recommended Scosche converter with it for my Bose amplifier, the online forum group said that was a waste of money. Sure did make the wiring a mess because some wires need to go straight to the radio while others needed to go to the converter. All that did was make a tight loop that made it a juggling act to hook up for testing in the car. 8 hours of trying to make it work before I had to call it a night.

Pros: Basic wiring is all there

Cons: Bose system wiring isnt there, nor is the instructions for it. Needs re-configuring for 97-03 Grand Prix GTP Bose systems

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I would still be trying to figure out how to connect my new radio to my existing system. I have a 2002 GMG YUKON with "ONSTAR" and a factory amplifier built into the car. With this harness and the wiring diagram that CRUTCHFIELD sent I was able to hook up my new ALPINE radio to my system. The hardest part would of been hooking it up to the " ONSTAR" system which controls the radio when in use. CRUTCHFIELD had it all figured out and installation was a snap. Once again CRUTCHFIELD made me feel like a radio "GEEK".......

Pros: Made the whole installation a "no brainier".....

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I know, it is what it is but if Metra would go through the trouble of customizing a plug specific for each manufacturer's receptacle, I would gladly pay the extra cost for the convenience. I always solder my connections to prevent corrosion and ensure a good connection but this was time-consuming and I got a little bit more money than I do time. Don't turn down more money, Metra and Crutchfield! Long live capitalism!

Pros: Very helpful for getting things correctly connected.

Cons: Very time consuming when done the way I like to do things. Instructions left a bit to be desired but I made up my own cross reference for the wires. Wire colors were not exact. This seems to be a connector that fits quite a few different GM models.

Solid built harness. I have purchased a couple with loose pins and also really short wires. This worked great for my installation. Saves a lot of time as usual, I love these harnesses. I remember the days of searching and testing wires just to install a new head unit. Anyone who has really appreciate a vehicle specific wiring harness! I have butt crimped and also soldered these harnesses before. While most of the crimped ones were okay I have had some fail. I have never had a soldered one let me down. It's the only way to go for a trouble free installation.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Overall a very good harness. Colors matched the factory harness which made for a quick and easy install. After install the Sony head unit seemed to be working as it should, however, there was no sound coming from any speaker. Several online videos and forums later I identified that the pink wire on the unused factory harness needed power. This required splicing a second wire onto the blue remote power wire from the head unit, cutting the pink wire from the factory harness, and wiring themy together. I expected a 'plug and play' situation and had to do additional wiring. Basically, from what I read, the factory amp needs power in order for the speakers to produce sound.

Pros: Came free with head unit, colors matched the factory harness

Cons: Additional wiring required

94" Chevy K1500 Easy installation.... other than having to connect the wires it was pretty much a plug n play.... I sat at my kitchen table and connected the wiring harness and stereo harness together. Took it out and plug it into the truck harness and then plug it into the back of the stereo... It was that easy... The wire harness color code and what it went to was on the Metra 70-1858 Receiver Wiring Harness bag and I just used the stereo book to match up the wires. Never had to download the instructions from Crutchfield which I did not know about until after I was done.

Pros: Plug right into my 94 Chevy k1500 with no problems... pretty much a plug n play, The wire harness bag had the color code on it.

Big-time work saver!

Keys Cuda from Florida Keys on 7/27/2014

1999 Saturn SL1
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Get your wiring done in the AC at the workbench (or kitchen counter, or TV chair, or ...) rather than in the heat, contorting yourself to work under the dash. Made the most maddening part of the install (faulty factory radio to an Alpine) much simpler. First time I've used in adapter in maybe a half-dozen radio swaps. Now a must. Love it!

Pros: Converts factory wiring to radio connection easily. A big work saver!

Cons: Hardest part of this part of install was stripping the wire ends on the adapter.

This is the only adapter you should use

I used this harness on both the Clarion unit I bought originally and the second JVC unit. I had plenty of cable on this harness to remove the soldering and even cut some off as needed. Very easy to understand instructions and had no issues with the installation. Quality Product.

Pros: plenty of cable length easy color codes with labeling

Cons: No Cons

Blue and blue/white wires reversed

Razor from Philadelphia, PA on 6/30/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great product, except the blue and blue/white wires are reversed - not sure if that's the harness manufacturer or Alpine's error. The only output to the speakers was from the tuner. After racking my brain, I called Alpine and immediately the rep said "swap the blue and Blue/white wires and that will fix your problem." He was right, but there was no documentation included with the harness or stereo. If I hadn't called Alpine, who knows how long I would have continued to troubleshoot - especially since everything had been connected properly according to color codes!

Pros: Except for reversed wires, it's a good harness.

Cons: NO documentation was included with the harness or stereo to let you know that the blue and blue/white wires were reversed during the manufacturing process.

I would have given a higher rating, but after spending hours troubleshooting a no audio problem I contacted tech support. They immediately said that on a Kenwood , in a GM product the blue wire on the GM plug needs to be connected to the blue/white on the Kenwood plug to get audio. Since known, why isn't included in the installation instructions.

Pros: Fits perfectly

Cons: crimp connectors should be included for those that can't solder.

I have installed a Metra harness in other vehicle but this one gave me a fit, it added alot of extra frustration. The plug was offset a bit and would not fit right into factory harness , had to split the harness and pull over to fit right , also had problems with factory connection at plug , once I heard it snap into place i had power to receiver. The instructions were great and it was easy to terminate wiring per color code.

Pros: Easy instructions.

Cons: Fit not great.

Wiring harness for 94 chevy truck

Wiring harness from Harrison, Arkansas 72601 on 4/13/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The wiring harness is installed with ease with the included instructions and the part works properly and has no issues the free shipping from Crutchfield is the best but each wire is printed on the wire with what it corresponds to in the vehicle in my opinion it is as easy as 1,2,3 just plug and play

Pros: Easy installation free shipping easy to identify each wire

Cons: If customer does not know they need butt connectors that can be annoying to have to buy something else to properly install part instead of black tape install. Maybe include the amount of butt connectors to install the part even if the price is raised by a Dollor or two

The product itself was excellent, but I was disappointed that no mention was made by Crutchfield that you need a special antenna adapter. Saturn/GM uses a micro connector for the antenna and you need an adapter cable to be able to attach it to most stereo systems.

Cons: Need to go buy the special adapter cable, remove the stereo and re-install it sure would have been nice if I had known before that I needed the adapter cable
