Installation Note: This harness uses your factory amplifier; your new stereo must have one pair of preamp outputs to connect this harness.
This vehicle-specific wiring harness makes connections between your new car stereo and your car's electrical system.
First, attach the color-coded wires on your Crutchfield-supplied harness to the wires from your new stereo. If you're not using a soldering iron, we recommend that you purchase some wire connectors to secure the connections. Check out our handy article on three ways to connect the wiring harness here.
Now, once this harness is connected to your new stereo, you'll be able to plug right into your car's factory radio connector. This harness makes installing your new stereo easier, and allows you to put the factory radio back when you sell your vehicle or return it at the end of the lease. A detailed instruction sheet comes with the harness. Warranty: 60 days.
Please read this important note: This harness may not contain provisions for every wire needed to complete your installation, and it will not accommodate special navigation, video, or factory steering wheel control connections. You will need a special adapter if you want your factory steering wheel audio controls to work with your new stereo.
Note: Most vehicles will require additional installation parts please identify your vehicle if you haven’t done so. You can also call an Advisor for more information.
Average Customer Review(s):
The harness saved lots of time
Hooked my pioneer head unit up to the stock for harness easily.
The wiring harness was perfect for my application and was fairly easy to hook up to my factory wiring harness.
Pros: Perfect fit to my factory wiring.
Cons: Does not come with instructions to help if you have a factory amp.
This is the correct wiring for the Mach audio system
Excellent harness. Metra is my go-to for harnesses and the like, and they didn't disappoint me at all -- and probably never will.
Pros: simple install
Excellent product. Clear and easy instructions with wires prespliced for ease of install
Pros: Simple clearly marked
Great product. Fit seemlessly into my 2003 navigator and pioneer avh-4800bs head unit. My only complaint would be the steering wheel volume controls no longer hire or lowers the volume. But that's probably the head unit and not the adapter. Overall great product and great company. Got me my item super fast and effortlessly.
Pretty simple to wire up. Matched the factory plugs exactly. Was a bit of a tight fit, plugging them in, but they worked. Much better that trying to wire it up under the dash!
Pros: Good instructions, plugs matched perfectly.
Purchased this kit as told by Crutchfield its the one for my car and my new Sony double DIN system. The colour wires from my new system dont match the wires from my Mustang Cobras harness. Also the plug with 2 wires (blue/grey) I am not sure what that is for? Can you advise? I am going to get an expert to install as I cant work out the wires. Dont want to blow up my new unit and the amps etc.... Besides that good product
Cons: Have to make sure plugs line up with pins as you will damage them.
This fit my 03 mustang convertible, with Mach 460 sound system. I initially bought the wrong one after watching several online videos, but this is the correct one as advised by the Crutchfield website.
Pros: Correct harness for the job
Cons: One plug was a little loose. Still all works ok though.
Worked perfectly. Was able to keep all my factory speakers and amps. Very happy.
Pros: Plug-n-play, not much easier.
Cons: Had to make a call to Crutchfield for a quick explaniation of some wires, but, they answered them quickly and everything worked 1st time on.
What can I say it made the job easier.
Did the trick.
Pros: Fast delivery, easy instructions, worked perfect
The wiring harness simplified the install so much, I dont think it could've been easier. Thanks to Crutchfield for the help over the phone as well!
Pros: Simple and easy
When you finally get the old head unit out you think the hard part is done. Until you see that there are 3 connectors worth of wires that have to go into 1. That's because I was replacing my factory installed MACH1000 with a new Kenwood. Nearly 3 dozen wires in all. The Metra 70-5701 Receiver Wiring Harness made that job easy with accurate wiring information and all of the adapters needed. When I did end up with a couple unidentified wires, a Crutchfield tech had the answers at his finger tips.
Pros: Ease of use and accuracy of information
Cons: Wiring information printing was on the bag and small
good stereo and good price and like the reduced price installation kit
Pros: the tech support was great, helped with the wiring connection of the wires that were a different color
Cons: color of some wire were different
Excellent Product! Crutchfield makes installing your radio as easy as it can be!
Pros: Ease of installation.
Easy installation No more popping had a question called the help line took a few sec and bam I was jamming out thank you Crutchfield wouldn't shop anywhere else
Made installing my me wood a breeze. Anyone could do it
Pros: Easy to use
These made connection to my factory Ford harness easy and quick, with the quality feel that reassure me of a long lasting trouble free connection.
Pros: Easily installed, even for a novice like myself.
Harness for the way it should. Delivery was on time and was a nice that I received an email from Crutchfield that the paxkad was delivered
Pros: Quick and easy aftermarket to factory connection
Used to install Alpine head unit with subwoofer out into an Explorer Limited with the Mach audio system. Factory amp & subwoofer worked perfectly. No turn-on thump. All fit nicely, and wire colors matched the Alpine output.
Pros: Perfect fit with factory Mach audio system, including subwoofer. Very easy install.
Cons: none, nada, zilch.
thank goodness for Metra. Made the install of my Clarion cz302 so much easier.
Pros: makes for a quick install
This harness was a perfect fit for my 1999 Eddie Bauer Explorer. The wires connected up color for color and my install was great allowing me to keep the factory amp as well.
Pros: Worked perfectly
The harness kit made installation of the Kenwood DNX692 a breeze.
Pros: Fit perfectly, fairly easy to wire to the Kenwood harness.
Cons: Illustructions could be a little more detailed.
a must for mach 460 sound system
Pros: easy to follow instructions. worked great
Cons: none what so ever
Perfect. Just what is needed to hook up my new Pioneer DVD to the stock Mach 460 speakers and amps in my 2003 Mustang.
Pros: Everything you need in one kit at a reasonable price.
Fit just like it was suppose to, easy and fast to install
Pros: Matched up well with all my factory wires
Cons: Ought to come with wire connectors or at least an option to purchase
I bought this for a 2003 Mustang with the Mach stereo and replaced with a JVC unit. The wiring was ok , the instructions were not as detailed as I would have thought and had to call Crutchfield for help on some of the wiring which if the instructions were clear for my vehicle I wouldn't had called them, I have installed several radios and this is the 1st I have had an issue with the harness.
Pros: Quality connectors
Cons: All instructions not clear.
2003 Ford F-150 XLT SuperCrew needs this harness. Last year of this model and they used 2004 model wiring. worked very well.
Pros: Good match
Cons: Learned their is two types of harness for this model year. Early built and later built models. Check when your truck was built on the driver door VIN sticker when ordering.
Easy to use/install. Instructions were perfect and wire colors matched with head units. No complaints.
Pros: Simple & easy
this was the best thing ever! so simple and I did a live chat and a representative gave me the link for the exact product that I need for my vehichle! amazinhg services great job
Pros: simple , exact no worries, just connect the connector
Made installation a breeze. Great install directions from Crutchfield.
Pros: Perfect fit
Between the online instructions and the paper one we were able to get it all together. Everything was clearly marked. It is a lot of wires to keep track of but it was pretty straight forward.
Makes for a FAST and EASY INSTALL!!! Great Product!!!
All and all good product
Pros: Works great easy to install
Cons: Tight plugs hard to connect
Everything fit perfectly without any "tweaking" or modification. Instructions were clear for the harness, not so much for the stereo itself (Pioneer).
Pros: Perfect fit, clear instructions.
Couldn't ask for anything easier. Very good!
Perfect fit quick and easy install now I can use the factory amp and sub with my Pioneer deck and it sounds great. Thanks Crutchfield
Pros: quick and easy instructions tell everything you need to do.
Simplified the install. All wires matched up as advertised.
Pros: Made replacing Ford stock radio easy
does what it suppose to do
Pros: fast shipping
-1 star for the Amp Turn-On/Sub Harness plastic connector was too tight. I couldn't get it to snap in. I broke the release tab off. I used channel locks (use at your own risk) to get some extra pressure in the connector to get it to seat as far as it would go. I still didn't get it to snap in but it seemed pretty tight. *Everything else was great. I tried chat for some advice and they gave me the installers phone number which I used 3 times. It was my first car stereo install. Everything sounds great.
Pros: Customer service was great. Wire harness matched up good. My first time installing a car stereo and Crutchfield got me through it.
Cons: Amp Turn-On/Sub Harness plastic connector was too tight.
Was a little difficult figuring the factory amp/sub connections, but figured out by using Crutchfield archives
Pros: Color codes were same as radio harness
Cons: Need to have a little bit better explanation, regarding factory amp connections
Wiring harness worked fine on my 2003 Ford Windstar. As always Crutchfield delivered a quality product at a reasonable cost and fast shipping! Just another thought. Crutchfield is the only company that I order from that I have not had to return anything because it wouldn't fit. That means a lot to me. Thank you Crutchfield!
Little confusing a first, but works great.
Awesome perfect fit easy to install
Pros: Quick install perfect fit
I decided to follow what the other reviewers were saying, and I'm glad I did. This harness fit my 2001 Mustang GT with the Mach 460 audio system. No problems at all. Tie ALL the black grounds together, and hook the two blue wires for the rear amps to your head unit's remote wire. This was my first Crutchfield purchase and I'm happy.
Awesome fit right in and made my other controls ready for aftermarket control
super easy to wire up my existing harness connections to my new radio. Had the connections done in 30 mins
Pros: exact wire color to color match
Perfect fit . Quick install
Pros: Correct in every way
Worked great as designed
Pros: very good instructions
plug and play just put the wires together and plug in your ready to go
Pros: easy just follow the colors
Match wire colors, pull the old radio with included tool, connect plugs, and insert radio, Installation took less than an hour and everything but wire splicers is included.
Finally after trying other manufactured wiring harness's I found one that works. Everyone else selling a 2002 Mustang harness had the wrong size plug for the amp connection. It looked close but the pins would not line up. I admit I was skeptical about this fitting but others said it would. Worked great!
Pros: Finally found the right connector that works with the Mach 460 amps in my 2002 Mustang GT.
Cons: Not a thing
Wiring harness worked perfectly for my 2002 Saleen Mustang S281 - SC with the Mach 1000 system. Installed a new Pioneer DVD double Din deck.
This worked great with my 02 mustang gt mach 460 system, though there wasnt a need for the baby blue and brown wire harness. With this i added splitters to a seperate amp and sub which sounds great.
Pros: Good product, makes for an easy install
Cons: No need for bby blue and brown wire and one harness needed a bit of push to sit correctly
There isn't much to say about these really. They work as they say they do. What makes this special though, is that it comes with every piece you need to wire up your stereo properly. It has the main wire harness for your speaker connections and things like that, antenna harness so your antenna has proper power, and the amplifier harness in case you have a factory amp. I didn't need the amp harness, but I did need the antenna one. If I had went to autozone, I would have only gotten the main one and my antenna wouldn't be getting the power it needs, since it is an in glass antenna. Thanks for having the proper parts crutchfield!
Pros: It works It has every harness for the car
Pros: easy to do
The folks at Crutchfield did their homework well with this wiring harness. Crutchfield was the only vendor that had all 3 connectors in a single package/purchase AND with documentation. I compared the actual wiring of this Crutchfield harness to an official Ford electrical manual - Crutchfield got it right!!! Car electrical is not for the faint-of-heart so I can't stress how important it is for a vendor to get it right to save the customer from plugging in a $700 head-unit into faulty/incomplete/hacked-up wiring harness. Nice job Crutchfield!
Pros: The immense benefit of not hacking or splicing into the car electrical system. Can put the stock radio back in in 5 mins with no evidence that an after market head unit was ever installed.
Cons: Yes, that I wasted my time believing that vendors (other than Crutchfield) who should know what they are doing with car electrical connectors for aftermarket head-units, don't.
A Crutchfield adviser helped me pick this part. Saved me the trepidation of, "Did I get the right one?" Most helpful. The harness worked perfectly and instructions were clear. I'm very happy with the result.
All the wires necessary are there, but if you are replacing a bottom line stock stereo it's not exactly intuitive where they all go. Yes, there is a diagram that is helpful, but for a stock unit you are not using most of the wires. End of the day I would get it again, and do it again. Had the whole stereo and speakers replaced 90 min. after the package arrived from Crutchfield. Great job guys!
Crutchfield Wiring Harness: Crutchfield wiring harnesses prevent you from having to cut your vehicle's factory radio plug when replacing your factory radio with an aftermarket head unit. Simply solder or crimp the Crutchfield wiring harness to your aftermarket head unit's harness (solder & crimps not included), plug the aftermarket head unit's plug into the rear chassis of the aftermarket head unit, and plug the Crutchfield wiring harness into your vehicle's factory radio plug.
Note: Installation tools, hardware, & accessories are not included & sold separately. Please see the Accessories tab for recommendations & availability.
Wiring Notes: If the Crutchfield wiring harness is not equipped with a ground wire, you will need to ground the aftermarket head unit's ground wire to the metal chassis of your vehicle. Some vehicle's may require you to bypass the vehicle's factory amplifier (in another location from factory radio) or hardwire certain connections. If your vehicle is equipped with factory steering wheel controls, an additional adapter is required & sold separately.

I believe that the gauge of the wire is 16 [ MICHAEL Jan 12, 2015 ]
I know that the power wires area a heavier gauge than the speaker wires. You should have no issues in using BLUE size butt splice connectors. My 1st choice is solder with heat shrink, 2nd are 3M bullet connectors with heat shrink built into them, and last is your traditional butt splice. [ MICHAEL Jan 12, 2015 ]
