Overview

This vehicle-specific wiring harness makes connections between your new car stereo and your car's electrical system.

Metra 70-6502 Receiver Wiring Harness

This vehicle-specific wiring harness makes connections between your new car stereo and your car's electrical system.

First, attach the color-coded wires on your Crutchfield-supplied harness to the wires from your new stereo. If you're not using a soldering iron, we recommend that you purchase some wire connectors to secure the connections. Check out our handy article on three ways to connect the wiring harness here.

Now, once this harness is connected to your new stereo, you'll be able to plug right into your car's factory radio connector. This harness saves installation time since you won't have to cut factory wires individually, and this also enables you to re-install the factory radio if needed. A detailed instruction sheet comes with the harness. Warranty: 60 days.

Please read this important note: This harness may not contain provisions for every wire needed to complete your installation, and it will not accommodate special navigation, video, or factory steering wheel control connections. You will need a special adapter if you want your factory steering wheel audio controls to work with your new stereo.

Connections:

  • 12V constant power
  • 12V switched power
  • chassis ground
  • power antenna turn-on
  • illumination
  • left front speaker +/-
  • right front speaker +/-
  • left rear speaker +/-
  • right rear speaker +/-

Note: Most vehicles will require additional installation parts — please identify your vehicle if you haven’t done so. You can also call an Advisor for more information.

Worked perfectly!

This adapter is missing a wire to connect pin 14 (i think) of the factory harness to connect to the pink wire of the Axxess ASWC-1 Steering Wheel Control Adapter. Because of this, you need to cut the factory wire behind the factory connector and splice it into the pink wire. Ok, so this isn't the end of the world, but really what is the point of buying an wiring adapter if it isn't complete? I would have gladly paid another $1 to cover the couple of pennies it would have cost to include the connection on this adapter. For that matter, why aren't all the wires presented in the factory connector added to this adapter? The manufacturing costs would have been pennies and I would have been willing to pay a dollar or two to cover it.

Pros:

Cons: Connections presented from the factory connector are incomplete if you buy the available steering wheel controls adapter from Crutchfield.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The wire harness adapter works as expected, with one deficiency. There is no contact/pigtail for PIN 14, which is the PCI bus for the steering wheel control. Using the Axxess ASWC-1 Steering Wheel Control Adapter, the PINK wire of that device had to be directly connected to the vehicle harness blue/yel stripe. Regardless of the actual device/methodology used to implement the steering wheel control function, in my view there is no excuse for not providing an appropriately labelled pigtail for the steering wheel control in the Metra 70-6502 adapter, which is supposed to eliminate the need to make any splices directly to the factory wiring.

Pros:

Cons: No pigtail for PIN 14 PCI bus steering wheel control function.

What you see is what you get. The product is of high quality; all wires are firmly attached, and it plugged directly into the factory wiring harness in my '03 Durango. All you have to do is match colors, and in my case the orange "illumination" wire was not used with my aftermarket head unit. I recommend using Posi-ProductsT Car Stereo Wiring Harness Connectors to make the connections simple and secure.

This wiring harness came with the kit to install my new Sony MEX-GS610BT into our '03 Jeep Liberty. Very good quality connector, all the wire colors match the stereo harness (although the shades were slightly different, but what do I know, I'm color blind... LOL!) and verified by mo son and the wire ends had the sheathing pre cut for easy removal. All I had to do was strip the wires on the stereo harness, solder and shrink the tubing over the connections. The rest was plug-and-play.

Pros: Quality connector Color matched wires Wire sheathing pre-cut

Harness does what it's supposed to. The wire color code chart can be a bit confusing until you verify which wires your particular harness doesn't have, as they use a universal bag for a bunch of different harnesses.

Pros: Quality construction Easy to connect

Cons: Confusing color code chart

Flimsy pins but t does what it's supposed to do

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Pretty easy to wire it to the Sony harness but before I installed the head unit into my dash I did a check of all speakers. Sure enough the right front wasn't working. I inspected the Metra pins to find one pin bent over. This was odd because I didn't jam the connector onto the jeep harness or do anything rough enough to warrant that outcome. I was able to use long nose pliers to bend the pin back and, so, the stereo is now fully functional.

Pros: Easy to use.

Cons: Flimsy pins. Be very careful when connecting it to your vehicle harness.

Wire harness was fine -- instructions were poor. One wire on harness was capped and I was able to figure out NOT to use it even though other part of harness had the same color of wire. Had forgotten from previous experience that harness would be 2 pieces and would need to be soldered together. Fortunately this is not an issue for me.

I remember the day working upside down underneath a dashboard with a soldering iron and a roll of electrical tape splicing into factory wiring harnesses. Using this connector and making all of the electrical connections on a work bench and then just plugging it in sure makes it a breeze to install a new receiver.

Pros: Having a connector that mates to the factory wiring harness sure makes life easier.

Cons: Throwing in some wire connectors would be nice.

Helpful if you want an easy connection to your new stereo, but it does create an extra connection. When I use one, I like to solder the wires together and cover with heat shrink tubing. I then use dielectric silicone grease around the plug in connectors to help seal out dust. The solder work can be done on a bench instead of under the dash, then the unit simply plugs in. It also makes it simple to replace the original unit when I sell the vehicle.

Pros: easy connections simple plug in installation

Tough perfectly adequate to the purpose intended, I found the wiring to be a tad too thin. They are using an 18 gauge wire when they should be using 16. Any high-end installer will end up mating this thin wire to a thicker wire which is less than optimal. Of course, the wiring coming out of most head units is 18 ga so I guess that makes sense. And one should run thicker wires from an amp, not the head. Still, this got the Jo done rather easily. The instructions were clear. The coloring in the wires is bold and easy to distinguish, unlike some companies that provided these harnesses with faded or muted coloring.

Pros: Good documentation, perfect fit, bold coloring, solid plastics used

Cons: coloring a tad thin gauge, but adequate

Wow, a lot of wires were in the back of my factory radio! Much more than my other classic cars. So, with that said, I love Crutchfield because they instantly know what kind of wiring you need so there is no frustrating trip to the parts store. My harness (from the original factory radio ) was a very complex set of wires. 27 to be specific due to an add-on satellite system. Crutchfield supplied the correct adapter harness and installation was a snap. I managed an install in about 1/2 hour.

Pros: Perfect parts, easy to install.

I rated the harness with 5 stars due to the fact it was easy to connect, color coded wires to match my stereo unit. For someone who has never worked with wiring it was made very simple to figure out. Good job to Crutchfield for making the job easier.

Pros: Big plus for the do-it yourselfer. Easy to connect just wire nut or solder and heat shrink.

Cons: no wire nuts included may be a con to some people. But not an issue for myself.

This adapter cable is of good quality. However the instruction sheet included did not mention connecting the blue wire to the blue wire with the tracer on the radio. I had to call tech support to get sound. They also could have recommended moving an unused wire to the #14 pin location for the steering wheel control connection with the tan wire of the adapter.

Pros: Good quality

Cons: Could use more detailed instructions

TeB from Hawaii on 10/29/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This harness was really easy to install. The directions were clear and concise. The only issue I had was that there are a couple wires that didn?t match exactly. Ex: Orange with white stripe wire vs. Orange wire. However, when you look at the wires descriptions...you find that they are the same. So I?m still giving it 5 stars because it worked like a charm once I read the directions and got it installed. Took less than 10 minutes to wire the harnesses together.

My OEM unit fried so I bought a new head unit. 2003 Dodge Grand Caravan, (w/o Infinity system). Local shops sold me several different wiring harnesses claiming to be "exact" factory replacements. FALSE. I should have gone to CRUTCHFIELD right away cause ultimately, I WASTED money, time AND fuel. I bought their Dodge/Chrysler harness and the wiring instructions were TOP NOTCH! Easily seen and read, I wired my head units harness directly to Crutchfields and the unit WORKED the FIRST time! KUDOS! I'm 60 years old and have little patience left for almost everything, lol. GO TO CRUTCHFIELD for ALL your auto AND home electronic needs. Who sez you can't teach an old dog new tricks?

Very good harness. Was shopping for a head unit and found three different harnesses that are said to fit my vehicle. I emailed Crutchfield...and they responded quickly and showed me that this harness is what I need. You just have to make sure you hook the "power antenna" wire on this harness to the "amp power on" wire on the stereo harness. That way the built in Infinity Amp will turn on. All the other wires are color coded and match the units harness. Easy to install....and works great. Also a big thank you to the people at Crutchfield for the assistance!

Pros: Easy to install...well built...Makes it so you can reinstall the factory stereo.

Cons: None.

If you take out a factory radio and replace it with an after market head unit your going to have to connect some wires. Your new head unit will have a plug with wires. This piece will allow you to connect to that plug sitting at the table and when you actually do the install in the car it will be quick and neat. The car wires will not be cut and the factory radio can go right back in if you ever wanted to.

Pros: convenient, easy and professional

This harness was well constructed, perfectly priced, and easy to work with. I installed this in my 2005 Jeep TJ, connecting it with a Kenwood KDC-BT952HD (just for reference). Also just FYI...and I am not trying to sway anyone's opinion about connections...I soldered the connections with a 60/40 solder with a pencil iron. The solder technique was the Western Union splice (google if needed).

I work in the car alarm & stereo business & put these in many cars & trucks for people who want the best, but at a cheap cost, when it was time to upgrade my own system, I called my distrib. & asked for a discount, their price for ME was higher than Crutchfield & it would have cost me additional money for the faceplates, converstion parts, etc ????? I always delt with Crutchfield on my other cars & went on line - WOW I saved over $100.00 between the radio, speakers, and ALL the parts i needed to install - bottom line, I AM IN LOVE WITH MY SYSTEM !!!!!!! & saved money, I now know why my customers come back & send friends for the same system !!!!!!

Pros: everything was perfect

Receiver Harness Wiring

Herman C. from Houston, Texas on 4/10/2012

The receiver wiring harness I received from Crutchfield had the colors of the wires that matched my cars coloring scheme. You have to verify this first, but after that it was a breeze. Buy the wiring cap connectors and the job will be a snap. It plugged right into my cars harness connector. This was the part I was most concerned about making a mistake, but Crutchfield made easy to perform.

Harness works great. One issue - if you find yourself with no audio for the CD or any of the aux systems - It's a known issue with the wiring harness with the blue wires. Called tech support and they know exactly what the issue is and actually call it the 'blue wire call'. Seems if they know what the issue is - they would just fix the instructions. Although - excellent tech support for a Saturday at 7pm - simply amazing and efficient.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought the dash adapter and the wiring harness for installation of a new stereo in my '04 Jeep Wrangler. I didn't even buy the stereo from Crutchfield! But the tech guy couldn't have been more helpful. He attempted to sell me an antenna adapter and extension, which I declined, thinking I could maybe buy them locally (cheaper), but they were included at no extra charge! Crutchfield also included very extensive instructions (at no charge) for both products. Would that the instructions that came with the stereo be so clear and simple! The only way this product could have made the installation easier is if the tech guy who sold me the products had gotten in his car, driven down here, and put the darn thing in himself! Highest recommendations!!

The Jeep wiring kit was very easy to connect to the radio harness and made installation a few minute process instead of hours. It makes it fast and easy because you make all of the wiring connections outside of the vehicle and not under the dash. I was a little intimidated when I first saw all those wires, but it turned out to be really easy to match them up one pair at a time. All the documentation I needed came with the harness and the radio. The diagrams clearly indicated the function of each wire, so all I had to do was match the pairs by their function. I know how to solder, so I elected to use that method. Covering the soldered joint using heat shrink tubing made for very neat, clean and secure connections. The harness connected perfectly to the factory plug and everything worked just as it should. This is a high quality wiring harness and it makes installation of your receiver a breeze.

Crimping the this adapter to the wiring harness provided by the stereo was a piece of cake. But the hard part was to identify which wire to which wire. Everything was hooked up but there wasn't any sound until i checked crutchfield.com's wiring diagram then i realised i had an amplifier beneath my passenger seat! The blue wire needs to be connected for the amplifier to be turned on for my 2003 Sebring LXI. Apart from that this is a awesome product. But if they can come out with a pre-connected adapter with everything already crimped and connected for every car make, wouldn't it be even better? :)

I was most concerned about getting the correct harness for my vehicle. But it turned out not to be a problem as this fit my Durango factory harness perfectly. Fit perfectly in my 2006 Jeep Wrangler with 7 speaker package. Perfect to keep the wire loom intact to replace with stock unit if I choose. Besides not trusting the color coding of the wires with the head unit (Mine was correct but is safer to double check) I would warn against using tape to attach the wires. In a vehicle is going to get warm/hot and black tape is going to come apart and short something out. Solder (I use the J hook soldering method) it and use heat shrink tubing. It my cost you extra in parts (soldering Iron, Heat-shrink Gun and needle nose pliers) but in the quality of the connection, the sound and safety of your equipment I think its worth it.

Great product over all but instructions were a little unclear. Figured it out with little trouble. Install was easy and went well.

Some of the cables are labled different than the cables on the stereo, so beware that you may run into issues like that. I had one cable that was supposedly not used, but became very necessry when there was NO sound coming out at all. Other than that one wire, everything else was great. Thanks again Crutchfield.

Worked like a charm - directions were well-written and easy to follow. Took a little under an hour to get it connected to the new head unit's cable (not trying to rush the job). If I ever replace a radio again I'll be back here for another version of this cable.

Okay, it doesn't get any better than this. Just splice in some wiring from the new stereo to this harness and plug it into the stock stereo plug. Wish everything was this easy.

I suppose there may be a way to conect a new HU to factory wiring without this but I can't imagine why anyone would. This made the potentially most problematic part of the upgrade the easiest part of it. The wires are labeled and in conjunction with the directions that come with the Alpine HU and some Posi Connectors it was a snap. I wired this to the HU harness in about 20 minutes and then it just plugged into the factory harness. Presto, all done. Can't imagine doing the job without it!!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I used this to install a new head unit in my 2002 Dodge Dakota. This was free with the purchase of my headunit and is a must have if you plan on returning the factory stereo to your vehicle when you get rid of it, or if you don't want to hassle with wiring in the dash. I soldered and heat shrinked all of the connections and plugged it in. Simple as that. A+ once again...

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

It was simple enough to connect to the radio's wiring harness, but the instructions were a bit vague on connections for systems outside the norm. My Jeep has a factory subwoofer, but the connection diagram did not address this. A call to the support desk got me a quick answer--basically, connect the retractable antenna lead to the subwoofer power-on signal lead. Other than that, it was a simple, straightforward installation.

This is just your basic harness adaptor. It fits the factory plug and it connects to the harness provided with any head unit. I would prefer a direct plug-in harness from head unit to harness for my installs BUT Crutchfield is nice enough to provide this adaptor for free. Thanks for the free adaptor Crutchfield!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

When I ordered my Alpine IDA-X100 & HD Radio Adapter; I did not receive a receiver adapter for my 7-speaker Infinity stereo system in my 2004 Dodge RAM. Crutchfield's website claims that this adapter does not fit my application. This item, DOES IN FACT WORK WITH THE INFINITY 7-SPEAKER STEREO setup if you are keeping the factory amp. A check of the factory maintenance manual and pin-outs, identifies pin 13 as 12-volt signal (Dark Grey) to turn on the amp. That pin and wire, is not in this receiver adapter. All other wiring is IDENTICAL. If you have the 7-speaker stereo, you will be required to run your own 12-volt signal to the factory amp. Not a difficult task. I called Crutchfield about this, and they are sending the receiver adapter to me. GREAT SERVICE!! Once again, a testimony to Crutchfield standing behind everything they sell.

Defenitley buy this part, that is unless you like spending an hour or more cutting & splicing the stock wiring harness to your new stereo. I spent about 20 minutes wiring this to my new stereo at my kitchen table, which has better light and more space, than the inside of my Jeep. Once I was ready to install it connected right up to the stock harness and worked perfectly!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Vehicle: 2007 Dodge Grand Caravan SXT Nice quality wire, easy to use. Makes installing the stereo that much easier and professional. I recommend soldering the wires and using shrink tubing on the connections prior to installing the stereo - you'll get a better connection. For installation on my Caravan, there are a couple of open connections for later additions, which is a handy thing to have.

WOW Easy

Anonymous from Austin, Tx on 9/2/2008

Talk about being easy, just follow the wire coding. WAY too easy. Back in my day when you crawled under a dash and in the trunk of cars just to re-hook speakers and find the right power supply cable coming off the key this was a breeze. Color coded wiring that matched what was in my dash and a few small wirenuts and I was done. By the way I am old enough to remember installing 4 and 8 track tape machines under the dash and having to wire "through" the radio. I even installed a 45 rpm turntable for a guy one time. (If your wondering it didn't work very well when driving but while sitting still it was awesome.)

I'm not much of a solderer, so that part went kind of slow, but once that was done the rest of the install was a snap. Plugged my new HD radio right into my Ram 1500, and worked flawlessly. Came FREE with the HD radio - that's why I picked Crutchfield.

Worked perfectly. The instructions were very clear and the harness worked perfectly with my Alpine receiver. Looks like now there's a standard in coloring the cables, as the colors in the harness matched 100% with the cable color scheme in the receiver. Completely fool proof.

Important Note

Mike from Agawam, MA on 2/10/2007

If you are installing this in a vehicle identified as a "non infinity system", please note, your vehicle may STILL have an infinity system. When you connect it, if there is power and dimming, but no sound, make sure the BLUE/BLUE WHITE wires are connected! The "power antenna" lead also provides the switching power for the infinity amps. My system did this (no where is it marked on my Grand Cherokee LTD that it has an infinity system), but the helpful Crutchfield support guy got it working in no time. (I had no power antenna so I left the blue leads unattached).

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have a 2006 Dodge Ram 2500. The harness Crutchfield sent me did not match up to my truck harness. Only the memory and speaker wires worked. No switched power, or illumination. When I called they said they had a note that said I would have to pull a positive wire from the fuse box. I wish that note would have been with the harness. I wound up tapping power from the left side power outlet which is ignition switched. The Crutchfield tech was quick to apologize and suggested the power outlet. I did put a fuse in-line from the outlet to the radio as well.
