Our take on the Metra 70-6504 Amp Bypass Harness

This Metra 70-6504 amp bypass harness allows you to install a new car stereo in your car without having to cut the factory wiring.

This Metra 70-6504 amp bypass harness allows you to install a new car stereo in your car without having to cut the factory wiring.

Simply splice the color-coded wires on your Crutchfield integration adapter to the wires from your aftermarket stereo — you can crimp or solder the connections in the comfort of your home without having to struggle with splicing wires behind your dash. Next, plug the Crutchfield integration adapter into the harness that you removed from your factory radio.

Since you didn't have to cut off your car's original radio connector, it's easier to put the factory radio back in when you sell your vehicle or return it at the end of the lease. Just plug the factory radio back in and keep the aftermarket stereo. Warranty: 60 days.

Note: This integration adapter bypasses your factory amplifier. In order to install it and make the necessary connections, you will need to run wires from the adapter to a switched power source and to your factory amp location above the kick panel on the driver's side. You'll lose the factory subwoofer when the amp is bypassed.

Please enter your vehicle information or call a Sales Advisor at 1-888-955-6000 to find out if this model is compatible with your vehicle.

Note: Most vehicles will require additional installation parts — please identify your vehicle if you haven’t done so. You can also call an Advisor for more information.

Was very pleased with my purchase, the ease of installation made it the quickest stereo install I've ever done. The length of the harness required some creative placement in the dash, but overall very satisfied.

No longer tech savvy

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I must be getting old (er)... I used to love this kind of wiring challenge in my old vehicles. There were no instructions on where to run the wires. It is a good thing I purchased the proper panel tool a while back. Could've marred paneling from rear of vehicle to dash. Took patience and 2 hours to run wiring to receiver. Was nice when done, but visual descriptive instructions from Crutchfield would have been nice to help with confidence in install.

Pros: Pretty simple in concept, too much more effort to accomplish.

Cons: No instructions on wiring harness.

Easy to install

Was very pleased with my purchase, the ease of installation made it the quickest stereo install I've ever done. The length of the harness required some creative placement in the dash, but overall very satisfied.

Pros: Plug and play, bypasses stock amp with ease.

Cons: About 8 feet too long, had to creatively stash extra wire in dashboard.

Used with Kenwood receiver that replaced the OEM Infinity system. Perfect-made the installation easy. Plenty of extra wire length to allow almost any routing desired.

Pros: Easy install

Absolute waist. After spending hours following their installation instructions the harness did not work. Ended up cutting all the wires and wiring myself. I was never more dissatisfied with a product. This whole installation took 5 hours due to bad components and instructions sent. BTW - I have installed tons of radios.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

this was perfect. I have a 05 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Amp was behind the right rear panel. there is ton of wire so you can bypass the amp and run it to your new head unit. I have two aftermarket amps so i just trimmed the wires and connected them directly to the amps in the trunk. made life easy since i did not have to rerun wires to each speaker in the doors. just make sure you use a crossover for the tweeters in the dash. Loved this product so easy to use.

Pros: easy hook up, well labeled, just use factory wiring to door and dash speakers

This kit is designed for an 07 jeep and Crutchfield didn't have any info on my 08 so we took a chance and it did fit accept for the memory and ground plug but I tapped into the factory harness other than that it worked out great

Pros: Plug and play and did what it was designed to do

Cons: The plug for ground and memory didn't fit

Didn't work

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This product was built into the package that I got to install my touchscreen pioneer radio. After installing the radio and checking to make sure everything was hooked up properly and testing power multiple different ways we realized that the harness did not work. I logged back on to the Crutchfield website to double check that I got the right parts, and entered my car info in again just to realize they don't even offer this part for my car package anymore. Super disappointed with this website. Had to go out and purchase the correct harness just to finish the job.

Pros: None.

Cons: Didn't work at all.

2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee

2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The bypass harness is nicely bundled for easy routing under the left side trim and scuffplates from the rear amplifier to the radio. The bypass harness wires were plenty long - cut off about 2' at the radio. The other end had connectors that snapped right into the amplifier in the rear fender. Wiring to the new radio was facilitated by printed functions on the wires in addition to the color codings. Given that the amplifier was so far from the radio, there isn't an easier way to hook to the speakers than this bypass harness.

Pros: Straight forward connector hook up to the amplifier; printed wire function and color code on the wires makes easier receiver wiring.

Cons: Stringing the wire bundle under trim can be challenging - I taped the end of the wire bundle to a long plastic stick that I routed under the trim and then pulled the wire bundle through.

I think it would've worked.. but...

My car had a previous owner and they completely messed up the original wiring. I'm sure this would've worked but instead I had to go get another. So I still will rate it as a 5 BC everything came together, shipped quickly and I'm very pleased with all that I purchased! I will be returning to Crutchfield for any and all related purchases!

I absolutely love Crutchfield . This shipment just every other in the past was great. Great customer service , awesome product, fast delivery, and very helpfull tech support.

Pros: Very easy to install works great on my 2004 durango.

Cons: Intimidating when you first see it (lots of wire), but if you have any experience with car audio installs it's very simple.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Installed this into a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited in order to use an aftermarket head unit. Everything works great and haven't had any problems. Using this harness to bypass the factory amp doesn't change the audio quality at all, the speakers still sound amazing. Install wasn't too bad, definitely recommend this to anyone looking to install an aftermarket radio.

Pros: Easy install Plenty of wire Works great

Cons: none

05 magnum rt amp bypass kit

JasonP from Minnesota on 3/17/2015

2005 Dodge Magnum
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This kit did what it was suppose to. Came with everything to bypass the amp with plug and play connectors so you don't have to damage the vehicles factory wiring harness. The one thing I didn't know about is you need a antenna adapter that doesn't come with this kit. I do think they should make a different part number for the magnum RT since this kit comes with 15 feet of wire to get to the amp near the steering column which I only needed 3 feet. So they wasted 12 feet of 30 wires. I see this is a universal kit for other vehicles that have the amp near the rear of the car though.

Pros: plenty of wire. correct connectors. works great

Cons: waste of left over wiring

I was iffy at first about bypassing my factory amp, but now that it's done my vehicle rocks. Bypassing the factory amp really woke my factory Alpine speakers up. Before I either had a little bass or all lyrics. Now I have alot of bass and lyrics, best of both worlds.

Pros: My new sounds quality keeping the factory speakers. .. and the price through Crutchfield.

Cons: None

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I'm giving it 5 stars even though I didn't use it. The tech from Crutchfield was absolutely awesome in making sure this would fit. I just bought the truck and it came with a Pioneer AVIC Z120BT but the sound wasn't that great. So, after some researching, I found these products to bypass or use with the factory Infinity amp. I get the bypass kit, take my dash apart and there was an AXXESS CHTO-013 amp interface. Everything was hooked up except for the switched pos. I hooked it up and the sound was awesome. I'm still keeping the bypass kit just in case.

Pros: Tons of extra wire

Cons: Tons of extra wire

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The kit specifies Magnum/Crysler. But this works well on a 2004 RAM. It make the job so much easier. To rewire the wires from the doors would have taken so much longer. For the money this wiring kit is excelent. I would highly recomment it.

Awesome wiring harness!

Daren from Fresno, CA on 11/17/2006

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This wiring harness made it so easy to bypass the factory Infinity amp in my 2006 Ram. As an added bonus, the harness includes high quality speaker wiring that was more than long enough to go all the way to my aftermarket amp under the seats. It consists of a plug that attaches to where all 7 factory speaker locations connect to the aftermarket amp.<BR><BR>I could not find this anywhere locally, local shops wanted to sell me a $100 bypass kit. <BR>Tip: You will need to find switched power elsewhere in this vehicle. I used the cigarette lighter on the left side of the center panel.

Wiring Harness: This wiring harness prevents you from having to cut your vehicle's factory radio plug when replacing your factory radio with an aftermarket head unit. Simply solder or crimp the wiring harness to your aftermarket head unit's harness (solder & crimps not included), plug the aftermarket head unit's plug into the rear chassis of the aftermarket head unit, and plug the wiring harness into your vehicle's factory radio plug.

Note: Installation tools, hardware, & accessories are not included & sold separately. Please see the Accessories tab for recommendations & availability.

Wiring Notes: If the wiring harness is not equipped with a ground wire, you will need to ground the aftermarket head unit's ground wire to the metal chassis of your vehicle. Some vehicle's may require you to bypass the vehicle's factory amplifier (in another location from factory radio) or hardwire certain connections. If your vehicle is equipped with factory steering wheel controls, an additional adapter is required & sold separately.
