Overview

This vehicle-specific wiring harness makes connections between your new car stereo and your car's electrical system.

Metra 70-7552 Receiver Wiring Harness

This vehicle-specific wiring harness makes connections between your new car stereo and your car's electrical system.

First, attach the color-coded wires on your Crutchfield-supplied harness to the wires from your new stereo. If you're not using a soldering iron, we recommend that you purchase some wire connectors to secure the connections. Check out our handy article on three ways to connect the wiring harness here.

Now, once this harness is connected to your new stereo, you'll be able to plug right into your car's factory radio connector. This harness makes installing your new stereo easier, and allows you to put the factory radio back when you sell your vehicle or return it at the end of the lease. A detailed instruction sheet comes with the harness. Warranty: 60 days.

Please read this important note: This harness may not contain provisions for every wire needed to complete your installation, and it will not accommodate special navigation, video, or factory steering wheel control connections. You will need a special adapter if you want your factory steering wheel audio controls to work with your new stereo.

Note: Most vehicles will require additional installation parts — please identify your vehicle if you haven’t done so. You can also call an Advisor for more information.

It was supposed to keep you from cutting into your vehicle harness, but it didn't as it was. It didn't include the wires for the steering wheel controls and when I called in to ask I was told they aren't populated because depending on the vehicle they can be in different places. So instead of cutting into my vehicle harness, I ordered another one and removed some wires from it and put them into the original one. Also the ground cable was labeled Subaru only. My vehicle is a Nissan, and it was in the right location for ground and I used it and it worked OK.

Your Lack of Steering Wheel Pins Disturbs Me

Jason from Creve Coeur, IL on 8/26/2017

2013 Subaru Legacy
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The harness itself is decent. The pre-stripped wires are a nice touch. They don't include the steering wheel control pins, nor do they appear to make a version of it that does. Thus, they lose two stars. I recommend that they make two versions of this: One with and one without the steering wheel pins. I ended up having to order one with the right pins. It's unacceptable and irresponsible to force a consumer to cut their OEM wiring harness in the name of alleged safety. I get it that you don't want some lunkhead blowing out the data bus, but at least give someone the option of being able to order the product they need if they aren't a lunkhead. I had to buy another harness because of Metra's erroneous judgment call.

Pros: Pre-stripped wiring makes it easy to use.

Cons: A lack of steering wheel pins, or the option to buy a version with them, makes this thing useless for attaching a steering wheel control kit. The answer of "cut into the wiring" is not acceptable. I bought a different harness to avoid that.

Pre-cut wires, very nice touch. I could very easily solder these and heatshrink them to my head unit's harness. It plugged into the factory harness and it all worked.

Pros: pre-stripped wires!

Cons: Not copper wire, but it's not critical that it is.

Pretty Good, Sans Steering Wheel Leads

Jay from Lafayette, NJ on 6/21/2017

2014 Subaru Forester
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This harness is perfect for hooking up to the stock stereo harness on my 2014 Subaru Forester. The one part where it was lacking, and for all I know all after market adapter harnesses have this issue, is that it is missing the pins for the steering wheel controls. The entire pins and leads are simply not there. So if you are using this and you want to hook up the wheel controls with something like a Axxess, you need to splice strait into the stock harness. Would have been so much easier if the leads were there so you need to use something like Posi-Taps, which isn't a huge deal. This may be how all of these harness are though.

Useful if the only things you need to hook up are power and speaker outputs. If you want to attach anything else like steering wheel controls, USB interfaces, parking brake/reverse gear sensors -- and on modern cars, *you will* -- then you'll be back to doing the old way of cutting into the original wires. It would be a better value if it attached to *all* wires on the original harness, and left tape over the optional ones.

Decent harness, does it's job and the pinout/colors are correct. The reason for the low rating is it wouldn't clip into my factory plug. It's a snug fit so it shouldn't come loose. Also, only two of the wires were prestripped, I had to strip all of the rest. I've never bought a harness that wasn't stripped when I got it.

Pros: Correct pinout and colors

Cons: Wires weren't stripped, plug won't clip into my factory harness

Worked for my 09 altima just fine. My only problem with with it is it does not have all the wires that match up the the factory harness. This is a problem if you need to install a steering wheel controll adapter as you will have to cut and splice wires from the car adapter instead of being able to connect to this harness.

Pros:

Cons:

Harness is missing the 2 SWC wires

Bill from Hamilton, ON on 1/6/2017

2010 Subaru Forester

First the good news: the quality is great, the Crutchfield documentation was also great, the hookup for the receiver was quick and worked right away. I used solder and heat shrink to make the connections. Now the bad news: It does not include the 2 wires for the steering wheel control. I get that they cannot hook to the receiver directly anyway but I also bought the Metra ASWC-1 to get around that. So in order to hook up the ASWC-1, I had to tap the missing two wires. Then it did not work so now I have to verify the taps before I can work on figuring out where the problem lies. This is a ridiculous pain and should not be necessary. Extra wires would have been easy for Metra (especially when it is the same company making the harness and the ASWC-1). For now I am running without the SWC.

Cons:

This harness is high quality and it comes with a handy diagram that explains what each of the colors do. I was able to match color to color the wires from my factory harness to the wires of this harness and everything crimped together nicely and fairly tidily. I would definitely recommend this as it came for FREE with my purchase of a Pioneer head unit and it made installation of the head unit smooth and problem free.

Got this to install a Kenwood DDX373BT HU in my 2015 Subaru Forester. This harness did not include pins to connect the SWC, thus forcing me to tap into factory wires which I did not wanted to do. Crutchfield confirmed this when I called them up. I ended up ordering a harness from somewhere else that had the SWC pins.

Pros: Would probably be fine if you don't want SWC

Cons: No SWC pins

Eddie from MA on 12/8/2016

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

To use, you splice or solder the loose wires of this harness with the loose wires of the aftermarket HU's harness. Then you have to push the rectangular white plastic connector for this harness into the rectangular white plastic connector of your car's OEM harness. It gave me a scare because when connecting to the car's wiring harness connector, it really required a lot of force to push together, with no reassuring "click" or "snap" type sound to let you know that it's all the way in, or in correctly. I was afraid I had put the two connectors together with one upside down, but then I was unable to pull them apart. The aftermarket head unit powered up and played fine, but the display was missing a lot of characters, so I called the vendor to ask. Relieved that after some troubleshooting, they concluded that I had received a defective unit rather than having misconnected the wires as I had feared. Just wish these electronics manufacturers would make more user friendly parts! A little audible click-producing tab would add what, 5 cents to the production cost of this thing? Makes you wonder if they're actually in cahoots with the pro car audio installers' union, lol.

Pros: Works, made for a fairly smooth install up until the last minute.

Cons: No clear instructions on how to attach to car's harness connector---which side is up? Or does it even matter?

Easy to use. It would've helped if they were stripped back further but no complaints. Stripped them back myself, an extra minute of work. And plugging it into the car plug was one hassle. I originally thought it wouldn't work. I realigned the pins and really pushed hard to get it to go and it worked.

Pros: Works great after soldering and plugging everything in

Cons: Had to push hard to get it to mate with the OEM plug... Almost seemed like I was going to break it but it worked, surprisingly.

You have to de-pin the vehicle side wires or cut them from the harness. As others said, the pins don't exactly line up with the vehicle-side connector and you don't get a full mate.

Pros: Gives you yet another electrical mod project when installing a new head unit

Cons: Does not mate well with existing connector Does not include all pins/wires

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Many years back, I purchased a stereo from Crutchfield and the stereo came with everything ready to go - a true plug & play system. I really liked that I didn't have to splice and solder any wires. I'm not totally inept with some electronics, and I do enjoy tinkering. However, with the complexity of newer cars and systems, I was hoping the kit would be like the previous one's I've purchased, where all the wires were already connected to a vehicle specific harness. I had to do a bit of research with Subaru and Youtube, to determine the proper wiring sequence. In the end, I think I managed to get it right, though.

Pros: Quick delivery. Friendly customer support.

Cons: A little more work than I was expecting with the need for splicing wires.

It's always nice to have a harness to plug and play with stuff like stereo equipment, but this one is missing the SWC wires for the Subarus. I contacted Metra about this and they do not offer a complete harness. So if you want to have SWC (like an Axxess unit), you either have to start messing with your OEM harness or look elsewhere.

2011 Subaru Forester
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This adapter worked well, especially if you're replacing a head unit without steering wheel controls. All pins are not passed through this connector, so in my application I still had to tap into the car's wiring harness to connect 3 wires for the steering wheel controller adapter. And because this is designed for both Subaru and Nissan (possibly others as well) the wire harness adapter only slides over the car's wire harness. There wasn't a clip hole for the car's harness to lock into. So over time if there was enough vibration there is a possibility the harness could come loose, but is unlikely.

Pros: Fit the car

Cons: All pins were not passed through so steering wheel control adapter had to be wired into the car's harness. Universal design doesn't have a spot for the car's harness to clip into and lock in place.

Jeff from Pennsylvania on 12/31/2015

2012 Subaru Forester
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Super-simple and all colors and stripes matched the harness from a Kenwood head unit. BE CAREFUL...on the 2012 I don't have a power antenna retractor, but a fixed stubby roof antenna. THIS ANTENNA USES A POWER SIGNAL AMP. I looked at the blue/white wires and assumed it was for a motorized antenna and taped it off un-used from both the new head unit and this adapter. The result was zero AM reception. After some internet troubleshooting the light bulb came on. After connecting blue/white from the head unit to blue /white on the adapter (imagine that), it was solved. The instructions could be better at addressing this easy point of confusion with a note about the antenna booster needing power even when you don't have a motorized antenna. Otherwise it's great.

Pros: Works

Cons: Instructions could address blue/white and boosters even when no motorized antenna is present in Subaru.

It's as simple and functional as any typical wiring harness. It seems to mate to my subaru's audio system just fine. Unfortunately this one doesn't have the three additional pins/wires for the steering wheel controls. Matched up with everything on the receiver harness of my Pioneer deck. A couple of things. The black ground wire that says "only Subaru" is exactly that - don't use it otherwise. The black ground wire on the Pioneer harness was considerably longer and easily reached both of the two screws easily accessible behind the stereo for grounding. The manual does mention this, but is not included in the package, but it is on the Crutchfield site. Just go to your "Orders" page and there is a link. If you require an antenna adapter with the blue wire, connect both the blue/white wires from your head unit and the vehicle harness Along With The Blue From The Antenna Adapter to the same butt connector or whatever you're using. This is not really specified. I did it that way and then called support the next day to confirm that was correct, and they did.

Pros: Works, color coding is all correct, labeled for exceptions even.

Crutchfield sends you all the parts you'll need to do your own at-home install. This was my first time putting in an after market stereo on my own and it was pretty painless. I soldered my wires which I'd recommend. Just find a good online video and give yourself some time to make sure you do it right and you won't have any problems. You'll need your own soldering iron, flux, and solder which you can find at any craft or big-box store. Also get the heat shrink tubing to go around your solder joints. I used a blow dryer since I don't have a heat gun, it works. I'm a novice car person with no particular interest in car modification and just wanted Bluetooth and an AUX imput in my car. If I can do it, you can.

Pros: Fit just right in my Subaru, works great.

Cons: You'll need your own soldering iron, flux, and solder. Plus some heat shrink tubing. Match up all the wires and give yourself some time to make sure all the wires are connected.

I would rate this unit as average. If you are just using it to install a new stereo to your vehicle, I would give it a 5. Directions are clear cut and there is really no way to screw it up. If you need to keep your steering wheel controls, then I would rate this a 1. There are no wires coming out of the plug that you can tap into for the ASWC-1 steering wheel control adapter. This means tapping into the vehicles harness :(. Surely, since this adapter is supposed to be vehicle specific, all the wiring should be available.

Pros: Straightforward install for car stereos only

Cons: No wires in the harness to attach necessary external equipment such as steering wheel control adapters.

Take your new stereo harness off, match the wires with the attached diagram, and then once you're ready to install it'll be so much easier. Save the time, get one of these.

This wiring harness was nearly perfect for my 2015 Subaru WRX and Pioneer AVH-4000NEX. The one thing missing is that it doesn't have any of the wires required for the steering wheel controls. If you study the Axxess ASCW-1 wiring diagrams, it is possible to get them to work though. In my case, I bought a second wiring harness to harvest the wires that I needed.

To everyone complaining about this harness NOT having the three SWC wires, and giving it bad reviews based on the fact: STOP BEING LAZY!!! I installed this on my 2014 Subaru WRX. NO ISSUES AT ALL! Do I have my steering wheel controls anymore? No. But it does not kill me to reach over with my right hand and change the volume or track or to answer a call., or use the remote that comes with it. Metra does NOT specify that it has the SWC control wires contained within the harness; why would you just assume it does? If it's that big of a deal to ya, grab some pins and add them yourself. Stop being lazy people. This is a good harness and a good product. Stop your crying. Everything on the harness works excellent.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I've been using Metra wiring harnesses for many years, and I wouldn't even attempt to install a car stereo without them. I spend a little extra time soldering the Metra harness to the stereo's plug harness, and I have always ended up with nice, clean installations.

Pros: Color-coded wires are fairly universal and consistent. Instructions are very clear and easy to follow. Really simplifies car stereo installation.

Cons: This particular harness (Metra 70-7552) works with Infinity, Nissan, Subaru, and Suzuki. I am guessing that each of the manufactures has a different style of antenna plug, which might explain why an additional antenna harness is necessary. However, it would be nice to have the antenna harness integrated with the main harness.

He did not specify what he was connecting to (HU), so he wasn't told automatically on his order what he would need. Further, on our website it says, "Note: Most vehicles will require additional installation parts - please identify your vehicle if you haven't done so, then check here for a list of parts. You can also call an Advisor for more information." The information was out there. Somehow he missed it or misunderstood. What do we do about this review? This harness was missing pins needed to install steering wheel controls without cutting wires. Very cheap. In addition, the service from Crutchfield when I called to ask what to do was poor as well, telling me my only option was to cut and splice. A local store sells these harnesses (I needed this in a hurry) so I went there, cut open another harness, and took the pins I needed and put it in my harness. Considering I paid a premium for my receiver on Crutchfield, and I received poor accessories and service...I do not recommend purchasing from Crutchfield for the customer service, like I did.

It works well, however, it was extremely tight fit for my unit... got the Kenwood DDX790 for my wife's 2012 Nissan Xterra. If this is your set up, you will have to remove the dash and work with it to get the unit to fit. One thing on the documentation, it is a little unclear what to do with the double-din mounting brackets... basically, you snap them into the sides of the opening for your unit. The fit of your head unit, holds the brackets in place, and then you attach to the unit with screws.

Pros: perfect fit for my 2012 Nissan Xterra

Cons: Documentation is a little unclear, tight fit with DDX790

This harness is great for most of the wired connections that you need for an aftermarket head unit. Unfortunately, Metra continues to sell this harness with wires missing that are needing for connecting steering wheel control buttons. Why go to the trouble of making an incomplete wiring harness? In order to connect the the steering wheel controls, you STILL have to cut factory harness wires and hard wire them to the steering wheel interface module.

Pros: -Easy color coding that matches up to OEM harness wiring. -Allows you to connect an aftermarket head unit without cutting any factory wires (with caveats pertaining to steering wheel controls)

Cons: -Missing wires/pins for steering wheel controls

This harness is a good replacement if you don't use steering wheel controls and intend on using the Axxess ASWC-1 adapter. It doesn't have some of the pins (wires), that the ASWC-1 requires, which means you have to splice-into the wiring harness in your car. Works perfectly and made the after market install VERY easy. After having done several of these installs, I wish they also included the pins for the steering wheal controls as that would make the install even smoother, provide a better connection option, and help minimize the amount of wire work that has to be done while in the car (can be done ahead of time outside of the car).

Pros: Moves much of the wire work outside of the car at a desk where it's more comfortable to work. Makes the install much easier. Easy to convert back to factory/no permanent alterations.

Cons: Doesn't cover steering wheal controls too.

It confuses me why they wouldn't just include all pins for this harness. I know some people wouldn't need them all but they could just tape those wires off. Instead they only include the basic pins and make it a pain in the "you know what" for the people that need those extra wires.

Pros: Made hooking up the speakers and power simple

The wiring harness fits like it should, but if they would have included two more wires in the harness, I could have tapped my steering wheel controller into the wiring harness extensions, instead of splicing into the main harness. Two simple wires would have made this product awesome, but instead the ports in the plug were left empty.

Pros: Everything

Cons: The harness instructions a little confusing. The instructions state the colors of the wire might not match but after speaking to a Tech the wires matched up by color.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I missed this in the detailed info, even though they mention needing a 3rd party module to maintain steering wheel controls, this harness adaptor doesn't include the wires in the plug, so you'll still need to tap into the factory harness. If you're buying this for a Subaru, there is a better harness that includes the Steering Wheel Control wires, which I've now bought to avoid cutting the factory harness. As cheap as wire is, this harness should have wires in each plug even if it add a $1 or 2 to the price.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

When my receiver first came I jumped right in and started with the installation. I am really into installing my own stuff and pretty good at it. I couldn't understand why I was having problems. I could hear the radio, but the volume was very low. I called a tech at Crutchfield, and discovered I had received the wrong harness. He sent me the right one at no charge. Once it came I wired it up in 10 mins. I installed the stereo in 15 mins, and it worked like a charm. The harness was so easy because the color coding is so good. Everything matches up so easily. Crutchfield has been my source for car audio since the mid 80's.

Does not Support SWC on 2012 Subaru Forester

Pete_VT from Northwest Vermont on 12/23/2012

2012 Subaru Forester
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Maybe for the basic installation it would be okay. It was the correct connector. My problem was the support for steering wheel controls. This harness is missing the necessary wires to accommodate the SWC controller I needed to use. I was instructed to tap into the wires on the back of the car connector. This kind of defeats the point of a wire harness. After a fairly simple search of the internet I was able to find a source for the needed harness. Unfortunately I had to pay for it and shipping.

Pros: Correct connector

Cons: does not support steering wheel controls.

This DOES work on a 2013 Subaru Forester W/O NAV!! This harness requires a lot of force to get it engaged into the factor harness but it did all go together and worked fine. The pin outs are correct for the factor harness!! Overall I was very happy.

Pros: All the pin outs were correct on the 2013 Subaru Forester W/O nav!!

Cons: It would be really nice if they left the pins in for the Steer wheel controls. Its a pain having to splice into the factory harness.

This became more headache then I wanted, turned out there was 3 Pins that was not part of this connector that was needed for the Steering Wheel Control. If this connector had all its pin wired up, I would of gave this a 5 star rating, but since it was missing PINs I needed to hook up the SWC to my Kenwood deck on my 2011 STi, I ended splicing in the factory wire-harness, I needed Pin 4, 13 and 14 which was not there on this kit.

This fit our 2008 Nissan Xterra and matched our new basic receiver just fine. I would suggest wiring this up to the receiver cables before starting the install, as it's quite a separate event from the install itself. I connected mine by weaving the wires, dropping some solder on, and then wrapping in electric tape. No problems so far, even after a long off-roading trip (lots of shaking and vibrations).

2010 Nissan Altima
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I wired this up to the Kenwood head-unit the night before and it made installing the Kenwood head-unit a breeze. The wires I didn't use out of the radio were options not present in my Altima, so all major connections were as presented in the wiring diagram supplied with the radio. I used Posi-connectors and that made the hook-up simple and secure; I usually like to solder connections but they're difficult to un-do, whereas you can screw and unscrew the posi-connectors as often as needed.

Pros: Exact fit to factory connector, wire colors matched the radio's harness.

Cons: none.

Great product and critical to a successful install. The black wire that says "chassis Ground" (for Subaru only) was taped off and not used. We had no extra amp so the blue/white - amp turn on wire was taped off. All other wires on this harness matched easily to the Pioneer AVH2400BT harness. A back up camera hot red switched wire was piggy backed to the red on this harness along with the red from the radio harness. The yellow wire from the XM tuner harness along with the constant power yellow from the Pioneer were both attached to the yellow of this Nissan receiver wire harness.

Pros: Simple solder, plug, and play. Thank you to Crutchfield for including the correct harnesses to match our vehicle.

Did not work/fit on a 2011 Nissan Frontier Crew Cab (w/ standard speakers) - a big inconvenience after going thru the trouble of preparing the wiring, removing stock radio and unplugging everything to get ready to install my JVC KW-XR810. The harness fit a 2010 Subaru Impreza very well -- all connections were solid, and it connected very nicely to the factory harness. The only issue I have with this harness is that it does not include pins 4 and 14, used to connect the steering wheel interface with the head-unit. I ran out to the local big box store to pick up a spare harness, scavenged two wires, and installed them in the correct positions. Worked like a charm, but would have been better to have them installed out of the package.

This is my third installation over the years and it doesn't make any sense that you would not include Crimp Connectors. I think most people would use them over solder. You try and make everything else easy for the installer and then you make them go to the store and find and buy Crimp Connectors before they can install the radio. I think most of your customers are end users and not professional installers.

This harness will somewhat do the job BUT it is lacking some important wires for the steering wheel controls (SWC) if you buy one of the SWC adapter kits. This plug needs at least those wires added. There are many other wires missing that could be useful for other applications and could be added for a few cents. If you use it as is you will have to cut your OEM harness and splice wires which totally defeats the purpose. This also needs a wire added for the bluetooth controls that are on the 2011 cars. If you are not worried about keeping your SWC & Bluetooth buttons then this is adequate.

Nissan harness also used on many Subarus (2010 Forester XT w/out Nav) Has all the standard connections. Didn't use the speaker connections since I was upgrading with an amp that I ran RCA cables to. One thing that would make these Crutchfield supplied harness great would be the inclusion of wires for connection to other common features. Many cars have steering wheel controls which communicate using just two or three of the wires in that harness that you are plugging into. If I had those, I could have soldered my Sony head unit and Metra steering wheel control harnesses together with the Crutchfield adapter on a bench. As it was, I taped up most of the wires (8 for speakers) and cut into my factory harness to tie into the steering wheel controls. Crutchfield doesn't sell the Metra brand controller (yet?) but they do sell the PAC and it would be helpful to those customers as well. Other than that, it does exactly what it is advertised to do....and nothing else.
