Almost worked.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The plastic plug matched my cars factory plug perfectly but the negative terminal was too big for the terminal on the kenwood speakers I bought. It just slipped right back off after attaching. I tried to clamp the terminal down with pliers but it still slipped off. I had to cut the wire and splice the negative lead that came with the speakers on to the plug.

Pros: Perfect match to my cars factory plug.

Cons: Negative terminal is too big for the Kenwood speakers I bought.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Nicely adapts VW wiring to the Jensen speakers I also installed. However, not plug and play as you will lose the functionality of the stock tweeters in all 4 doors. VW had a jumper installed in the factory speakers allowing the tweeters to parallel off the main speakers, but these adapters do not have this feature. I had to splice/solder in my own connections and in the end it would have been easier to do this at the time of crimping on the proper female connectors than trying to go back and redoing this job with these adapters. If your tweeters are blown then you are fine, but mine are still working well and I really noticed their absence.

Pros: Plug and play if you don't want your factory tweeters to function.

Cons: See above.

Speaker Harness

Matt J from Olney, IL on 5/2/2016

2012 Volkswagen Passat
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These harnesses worked perfectly on the front speakers of my Passat. The rear, not so much. These harnesses only have two wires, whereas the rear factory have 4. The other 2 wires run to the tweeter that is located in the door. By using the harness in the rear, you will loose the tweeters unless you modifier the harness. The only other way is cut the wires and splice. I'm not a fan of that and I'm sure most others aren't either.

Pros: Easy connection

Cons: Not proper harness for rear speakers, will loose door mounted tweeters.

2014 Volkswagen Passat
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These are convenient if they fit. The connectors did not fit my 2014 VW passat premium without forcing the connector on and using a razor knife to cut out where the ridges did not fit this connector. After this modification, it fit perfectly and securely so these are still a viable option. If you have this 4 pin connector, chances are that you have a factory dual voice coil door speaker with 2 separate + and - channels. These connectors only use one of these channels which means the replacement speakers will only have half the power coming from one channel and not 2(with factory amp). If I knew for sure i could bridge the 2 factory amp channels then there would not be any problems. My replacement speakers did not sound as good as the factory due to the lower power they were receiving. I hope this made sense and helps you plan your install better than i did.

Pros: Good connector. May require modification on newer vehicles.

Cons: This is a 4 pin connector with 2pin slots not filled and only 2 wires out to the door speaker. If they door speaker originally had 4 wires going to hit, chances are you are now sending half of the power to any replacement single voice coil door speaker. upgrading the factory amp would fix this.

Loose connection to speaker requires modification

2015 Volkswagen Jetta
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Decided I had enough soldering and wire cutting in my last car so I decided to get these adapters so I could just plug and play some new speakers. The part that clips into the factory plug does fit well which is great, however, the two quick slide connectors are worthless as they practically fall off the speakers. The problem is especially prominent in winter when the metal contracts and the already loose connection became problematic. To give a specific example; the vibration from simply opening my window while going through a drive-through was enough to cause the speakers to cut out completely. After experiencing the speakers cutting out I decided enough was enough and took a look. After gaining access to the speakers in the door, I found that the slightest tap on the speaker wire caused sound to cut out. I clipped off the quick-slide ends and soldered on the much more tightly fitting ones that came with the (Polk) speakers and I was back in business. After swapping out the quick-slide ends for ones with a better connection, I actually believe that the sound quality, specifically the bass response, has noticeably improved; it's not something I was even listening for but noticed almost immediately.

Pros: Connects well to the factory connector and allows you to re-install factory speakers if you ever wanted to; makes the install process slightly easier.

Cons: quick-slide ends were worthless and did not have a tight fit to the speakers. New speakers will come with their own connectors that will provide a much better connection and potentially better sound.... use those.

I loved how easy this harness was to use. All you have to do is plug the negative wire into the negative terminal and the positive into the positive terminal. It makes the job so much smoother and was a perfect fit for my speaker connector. Rather than trying to spend the time manually wiring your speaker wires together, go ahead and spend a few extra dollars on these and make the process that much easier.

Pros: Easy to use, self-explanatory, and perfect length.

This harness made installation much easier as I did not have to splice it into the wiring. I did still have to splice the speaker wires themselves together from four to two. The only improvement I can think of would be to make the harness do that installation will be completely plug and play.

Pros: Simple plug and play install on the speaker end.

Cons: Still had to splice speaker wires on the car side to make it work.

daveb from portland,or on 11/12/2013

2001 Volkswagen Beetle
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Its a good idea, just needs a tweak and it would be great. The negative (smaller) terminal on both the connectors they gave were too large. Putting them onto the speaker they would fall right off under their own weight. Had to crimp them down with a large pliers while being careful not to mess up the plastic sleeve. This ineviteably made them a bit too tight, and required playing back and forth a minute to get it right. Not the worst thing in in the world, and saved the OEM connector. I cant help but thinking it would just be less time to crimp on a new connector then use these though.

Pros: keeps oem connector

Cons: doesnt fit negative terminal and needs manual adjustment to work.

These adapters may work for some installations, but for the VW component system, they do NOT power the satellite tweeter. VW uses the 2 of the 4 conductors in the terminal for the speaker input and the other two to power the tap to the tweeter. I had to jumper the spare pins in the adapter to get the tweeters to work.

Pros: Free - you need the VW connector to get the component woofer to work.

Cons: Does not power the tweeter on a VW - need to splice or jumper the unused terminals.

These came free with my purchase of some Alpine speakers. I definitely liked not having to cut my factory harness, but the connector terminal for the negative speaker lead was so loose on all 4 of these I used that I had to crimp it a little with pliers to get it to stay snugly. The positive plug was fine, so I am not sure why the other one was so loose. Fix the problem and these will be perfect.

Pros: Genuine VW plug/harness used, just enough length to reach from plug to speaker, plug & play (no wire swapping).

Cons: Negative terminal plug cheap and loose. Plastic covers popped off the speaker-end terminals sometimes making them a bit difficult to attach sometimes.

Jeremy H from Portland, OR on 6/6/2013

Factory speakers use a coil and a capacitor as a cross over to the tweeters. I wanted to keep this, and ended up cutting the connector, coil, and cap out of the old speakers, I then wired to the ground and the 3rd wire as these adapters for the new speakers. Worked like a charm, not sure why they dont just make an adapter with a cap and a coil as a built in cross over.

Pros: free

Cons: not so usefull as a direct plug in part, OK for parts.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

It is nice to not have to ruin factory connectors. This does just that! Plenty of length to make appropriate connections.

Pros: Plug and play

Cons: May have to use pliers on the negative connector IIRC so it would fit tight on the speaker terminal.

worked great. Note: the lugs had be tighted a bit with needle nose pliers to attach tightly to my speakers, but that is not an issue, and happens often with sort of work.

Pros: saved me lots of time, and the adapter works as designed

Cons: tightening the lugs to hold tightly to the speaker- Hardly a 'con', by my experience.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Incomplete and unusable. The harness will only work if you are installing a full range (coaxial, etc) speaker. It only has 2 wires feeding the speaker; the OE design 4 wires with the second 2 wires going to the tweeters. I had to cut off the factory plug and run those 2 outputs to an aftermarket crossover, then run new sire to the speaker and a second wire going to the tweeter high in the door. Unless you are just installing coaxial speakers, dbon't bother buying this harness.

Pros: Useless purchase for the Passat, although it might fit other VWs if you just want to drive a single speaker in the door

Cons: Consider your installtion carefully, but for my application It is unusable

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Easily connects to factory fitting but the narrow (-?) fitting was loose on the speaker prongs of the Pioneers that I bought (TS-G1644R & TS-G1643R). I took pliers and squeezed fitting a little before slipping onto prong and it now holds tight. Easy fix.

Pros: Attaches to factory hardware easily

Cons: May need to tighten narrow end that connects to speaker

So easy

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This cable did indeed fit the factory connector in my 2001 Beetle but it would be really nice to have supplied some sticky-back foam to wrap the connector in to keep it from rattling against the door and panel. The original speaker has the connector built into the spacer and there is no extra slack in the wiring harness. I modified the new spacers and epoxied the new harness connectors to them to resemble the original configuration.

Features

Speaker Harness: These speaker harnesses prevent you from having to cut your vehicle's factory speaker plugs when replacing your factory speakers with aftermarket car speakers. The speaker harness features two female quick-slide connectors on one end to attach directly to your new aftermarket car speakers & a proprietary Molex connector on the other end that connects to your vehicle's factory speaker plug.

Quick-Slide Connectors: The speaker harness is equipped with a large (positive) & small (negative) female quick-slide terminal. These quick-slide terminals fit directly onto most aftermarket car stereo speaker terminals (slight crimping may be required). In rare cases that the quick-slide terminals do not fit your car speaker terminals, you will need to solder the speaker harness to your aftermarket speaker's terminals or replace the quick-slide connectors on the speaker harness with the correct size terminal.

Note: Installation tools, hardware, & accessories are not included & sold separately. Please see the Accessories tab for recommendations & availability.

Quick-Slide Terminal Measurements: The positive female quick-slide terminal measures 0.205" (inner width), while the negative female quick-slide terminal measures 0.115" (inner width).

Wire Code Chart: Two identical speaker harnesses are included.

2 questions already asked

What year make and model component or just speakers all new wiring from amp to speakers or component system you will not need them as you will be putting new clip ends for wire to speakers [ ANTONIO  Oct 14, 2017 ]
You will not need the speaker wiring harnesses when running new speaker wires, no. [ Ryan  Oct 11, 2017 ]  Staff
I forwarded your question to an Advisor and they responded with the following: This speaker harness is not "made" by Crutchfield, it is made by Metra. They no longer actually offer the part however, and don't have a current item/model number for the part. It looks like we have them, simply because we had a large stock and have not sold out of them over time. There's a good chance that we may be one of the only solutions for getting their hands on this piece. If you would like to discuss further you can contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. [ Krissy  Sep 10, 2014 ]  Staff
