Average Customer Review(s):
Worked great but they do not sand the edges so beware you will cut yourself good on these if you slip while pulling.
Pros: Worked great to remove the stock stereo
Cons: Very sharp edges, sliced my finger open, use caution!
Great ! Must haves !!
Pros: Awesome product have used other pieces of metal this makes life easier
Successfully used to remove radio in 2003 Land Rover Discovery SE (Alpine factory stereo)
Worked as intended, no issues....
Old radio stays in dash without these tools. Makes removal of stock radio extremely easy. Without these tools, I would just send the new radio back,or have to pay to have it installed.
These work well and are ready to use!
Bought this, along with the other recommended products, to install the Sony XAV-AX100 stereo head unit in my MK4 GTI and it made the whole process 100% easier. Install took less than an hour and the stereo works great.
As simple as it gets - works as needed
Pros: It just works
Worked as they should. Great, since they were free!
Worked well, easy to use, but had a tenancy to slip out. Took 4 or 5 tries to get the radio pop out but it did work.
worked perfectly to remove my stock radio from 03 SLK
Pros: simple and easy
The factory radio removal tools work Much better and Much more expensive! These are ok, but they only worked on 1 side of my radio. They are good to have in a jam. ...but I would rather work with the OEM tools.
Check your factory radio before ordering because you may need two sets of these (the package includes two tools, and some radios require four).
Works as good as the factory tools.
It made the whole setup much more simple.
Tools work great!!!!!!! VW dealer get a lot more for the pair. Thanks again Ron
Can pull out head unit, as well as glove box mounted CD changer. 2 Sets will be needed to remove RNS-E
Pros: Works, Cheap
Cool tool buy these you will not be disappointed
The tools worked fine but the instructions was wrong for a 2004 vw passat. I finally figured it out with the help of an online video.
Worked as expected.
Arrived in 3 days a day before it was scheduled. Worked as advertised.
Worked perfectly to remove oem radio.
Item works well
Pros: worked as should
Tools worked perfectly for installation job. Thanks!
Pros: Free with new Kenwood receiver perfect tool for job
Tool worked perfectly! No problem removing the factor radio from our 2003 Beetle!
I needed to remove the factory radio to get to the back of the radio and I purchase 2 set which was 4 total keys. It is very durable and East to use!
Works awesome in removing the factory radio. Very happy it was shipped with the radio.
Pros: Very easy to use.
They fit perfect and are so much better than the orginals make taking the stock stereo head unit out really easy
Removed the radio in seconds.
Works well for Daimler-Benz (Becker) radio
Pros: Free with new deck
Cons: Light weight - not bad, just thin
The removal tool worked perfectly to remove the radio in my 2004 Chrysler Crossfire. I simply inserted the tool and it immediately unlocked the hinges which held the radio in place. Following this, the radio slipped out easily.Simple device that works
Worked great removing the factory head unit from my wife's 1997 Mercedes SL320. Like butter...:o) !
Easy to shop, on time delivery
Pros: On time delivery
Very flimsy metal and didn't work. I don't know if the problem was the flimsy material or a problem with the clips on my factory radio. I had to break the factory radio to get it out
Cons:Crutchfield response on 8/2/2016 Whenever you encounter a problem with anything you purchase from Crutchfield, please contact our tech support team right away. Lifetime tech support comes with every Crutchfield purchase.
Makes it simple to remove the radio
Handy tool for the job. Other things can be used, but it is nice to have this ready to go. Although it isn't universal, it does cover many applications.
Cons: Not universal
My head unit was really wedged in. The thin metal pressed uncomfortably into my hand like a dull knife when I put any pulling force. These might be useful if you have multiple types of clips, but I would have rather gotten my specific clip type with plastic rings on the end. Also, check your system because you might need to release four clips and require two sets of two.
Pros: Fits multiple clip types.
Cons: Cuts into hands with any pulling pressure. Easy to bend.
It took exactly 10 seconds to get my factory radio off with this fascinating tool.
Pros: Can use it again in case I need to put back my OEM radio temporally for any reason.
Cons: No cons
Tried all 3 sides & the one that was supposed to work didn't. Now I'm not sure if the release pins were damaged but once the tool was inserted it didn't release the radio from the dash. Ended pulling the key out with pliers thus rendering the pins useless & then the tool couldn't do the job.
Pros: Works when things are right but not for me.
Cons: Read review comments
This is a pretty simple and effective tool that does what it's designed to do--remove the in-dash radio. It would be nice if the handles had a soft curved surface, but then we are only talking about a $6 tool! In fact, the shipping was more than the cost of the part, which seemed excessive, as it can be fit into a business size envelope...
Pros: easy to use, durable
Cons: Shipping costs
Perfect tool for the job for removal of Becker radios. Thanks Crutchfield.
Worked very well.
Did what they were supposed to do. 5 stars.
It is true i would not have been able to remove my stereo without these, but they came with a lack of clarity on how they should be used and what to expect so i ended up ripping the face off of the stock stereo trying to get it out. luckily, i had no intent on keeping it, but i wish they had clearer instructions on how to use them.
Pros: Very necessary
Cons: little confusing.
I had to call the Crutchfield Technical line for help because the existing radio just won't move with the tool inserted as instructed per the Master Sheet. Daniel S sent me a link to the Youtube and then it is obvious the factory radio's retaining clip works completely different than all the after market sleeve retainer. The Boxster factory radio has no sleeve. The tool after insertion collapses the clips in the radio and allows the radio to slide outward. The Youtube video saves the day.
Pros: Technical help, Daniel S, came to the rescue with the Youtube video that shows how the factory radio clips work.
Cons: Master Sheet should state that the 2002 Boxster S factory unit has no sleeve and furthermore the right side of the opening needs to be enlarge about 1/8" to fit the CZ305 sleeve.
These worked as designed, but I didn't exactly need them. I got them as part of a "kit" when ordering my new radio. The kit comes with 4 components: - wiring harness - antenna adapter - dash pocket - radio removal tools Sadly, it is cheaper to buy all four of these together than it would be to just buy the first two. I didn't need these tools as I already owned some, nor did I need the dash pocket. One more thing to either get lost in the toolbox or end up in the trash.
Pros: Appears to be useful for radios from multiple manufacturers
Cons: Other, manufacturer specific tools are more ergonomic
Crutchfield included two pair of these removal tools which enabled me to remove the double din factory radio. Quick and easy once I figured out which way to insert them.
Pros: Worked as stated
Great product. I used it for my 2004 vw Passat to remove my double din stereo. You actually only need two not four, just do one side at a time.
These tools were the only way to remove the radio from the 2002 Jetta, and thank you to Crutchfield for including them free. Worked awesome.
The tool works but you have to be very careful because the metal is really soft and the catch notches tend to round off causing it to slip. Almost didn't work because it kept slipping and getting worse. Note that if you have a double DIN radio you might need two sets (2 tools each for a total of 4 tools) to remove it.
Pros: Works with some very careful fidgeting.
Cons: Soft metal which causes the catch notches to round off and slip. Very marginal for tight fitting factory radios such as a 2008 Audi A4.
These did exactly what they are supposed to do. The only mystery is: why did Crutchfield send two sets?
Pros: Worked perfectly
Little too thin and flexible, could be stiffer
Pros: Unit can work on several factory radios
Cons: Metal thin, could be stiffer
Pros: easy use
The Removal Tools work well after you figure out by trial and error how to use them. It would be helpful to have written instructions or suggestions on how the use them.
Pros: Works well
Cons: Requires trial and error
Works on 2007 beetle with monsoon
It works well! The tri-star shape takes up more space at the cost of the added utility of having more key shapes.
Cons: Maybe a larger size and shape than other radio removal options out there.
cheap, stamped pot metal keys that didn't work. in fact, inserting these keys "sprung" the clips holding the radio in, rendering them useless!..could no longer remove the radio using this method. had to destroy the factory radio to remove it. but, to be fair to the manufacturer of these sharp edged throwing stars, Crutchfield needs to share the blame for this one. they never sent me the removal instructions. ZERO stars for both.
Cons: didn't work, period.Crutchfield response on 10/19/2015 We're sorry to hear that you had difficulty with the factory radio removal. We send out the vehicle-specific installation instructions ahead of the order (as an attachment to your shipping confirmation email) so that you can familiarize yourself with the installation requirements before receiving your order. We also make instructions for most of our products, including these removal tools, available as a downloadable PDF in the "Details" tab on our web presentation. And of course, our Tech Support team stands by, seven days a week, to help with any installation problems.
Use work gloves when using these! as i cut myself trying to pull/use these(not too bad), they worked OK on a couple of the 4 key-ways to unClick radio. I ended up just ripping apart the old radio face and tearing out the old bezel in a fit of rage!! with large pair of pliers and flat head screwdriver.
Cons: Sharp, weak(bends easy), Other then what end to use Instructions are useless.
Like other things I bought with the Metra name, the quality is fine, but the instructions are awful. Ignore the little sheet that comes with this tool, instead look at the PDF on this site. If you use it correctly, the tool goes in with a satisfying click and makes extraction of the stock unit a breeze.
Pros: Absolutely necessary tool at a decent price.
Cons: Worthless instructions.
quick n easy
these radio removers worked perfect when used correct.
Pros: very easy to use-worked perfectly-
Cons: the instructions they came with was wrong. turned it around and it worked as it should. internet is always a helping hand
Did not work in removing my factory original receiver.
Pros: Just wish I had the Mercedes or Porsche to be able to use the other tips!
Excellent for my 1996 MB E-320
Product works as directed.
Works well - and it was thrown in for what I bought.
Pros: Fits the Porsche Radio
Cons: Thin and can bend easily
This worked exactly as it's supposed to. I inserted the tool into the factory stereo in my '01 Passat, and it popped right out. No issues.
Poped my stock deck right out would recommend to all diyers
The directions showing which end to use for a specific application are wrong. I had to go searching on the internet to find the correct shape for my 04 Jetta, and then the tool worked ok. Problem was in trying to follow the directions I bent one of the clips in the radio and had to resort to alternate removal instructions anyway.
Pros: Came with purchase and will do the job if you ignore the included instructions.
Cons: Included instructions are plainly WRONG.
The tool works like it says but I need 4 not 2 and it didn't say that on anything.. Only disappointing part.
Pros: does what it says
Cons: Not enough tools for the full job on a 2003 jetta.
Awesome product works perfect on an audi a4
Pros: Sturdy and fits
Cons: It worked there are no cons
TOOL WORKED GREAT, RECIEVED IT EARLY, THE INSTRUCTIONS SENT WITH TOOL FOR RADIO REMOVAL WAS SPOT ON. THANKS FOR EVERYTHING. LOOK FORWARD TO DOING FUTURE BUSINESS WITH YOU TIM
Pros: WORKED GREAT, DELIVERED AHEAD OF SCHEDULE, INSTRUCTIONS ON RADIO REMOVAL WERE SPOT ON
Works great for removal
Pros: saves time and frustration. Better than what came with the stereo
Made for easy factory radio removal
Pros: Super easy and straight forward
Simple to use and they work. Fantastic.
Pros: Work well.
Easy to follow directions. Good tool to keep around.
Pros: It worked
The Metra 86-9001 Factory Radio Removal Tool worked perfectly, had my MBZ stock stereo in DIN1 size out in 15 seconds.
Pros: works like a charm.
These removal tools were another free item that allowed me to easily remove the factory radio prior to installation of the new head unit.
Pros: Made removing the factory radio a snap!
Tool works perfect
Not much to say. They worked!
The radio removal tool allowed me to take the radio out in less than 1 minute replace the fuse in the back of the radio and it was working. The dealership wanted 75 just to pull out the radio not including replacing the fuse.
Worked well for removing the factory radio.
Works as advertised
Removal tools worked well. My only complaint was that the instructions were not well written and difficult to follow. Not just for the removal tools but also for the harness installation as well as the radio installation.
Cons: poor installation instructions.
Tool worked perfectly. In fact, it worked perfectly multiple times as I fitted cables and checked.
Pros: Works as advertized
Tools worked great to remove old radio
Pros: Easy to use and free with radio purchase.
Tool makes it easy to remove factory radio in 2003 Volkswagen Jetta
Pros: Easy to use Radio comes out easily Free with purchase of radio
Changed battery in 1999 Mercedes SLK230, couldn't remember code. Contacted Mercedes and code they had didn't work, told me they needed radio model number. Used this tool and pulled radio in 15 seconds to get model number. Got a different code from Mercedes and popped radio back in. Viola radio works.
Pros: Works as advertised
Cons: sharp edges, could cut yourself
These tools work great, just as advertised.
Pros: easy to use
Works perfectly. A little scary once you realize how easy it is to remove factory VW radios
Pros: Easy, works great
Nice, universal tool.
Pros: Does the job.
Needed this to remove the old Monsoon stereo from a 2000 VW Golf. Worked great, and I appreciate Crutchfield supplying it with my order.
Tool was very useful in installation of Kenwood DDX471HD
Works perfect . . . well worth keeping
Worked just fine to remove the factory stereo in my 2002 Jetta. Unfortunately, I had a 4" factory stereo, which required 4 tools to remove. Crutchfield only sent 2. Luckily, the part of the tool labeled "For Mercedes applications" also worked. I cut those spokes off with a hacksaw and was able to remove the stereo.
Pros: Works as advertised.
Cons: Not enough tools were sent to remove the factory stereo.
Must have when removing a factory radio and cd player on Volkswagens! No more trying to use screwdrivers and other utensils to pry radio from car!
Pros: Quick and easy!
they work as advertised. there are only two keys so you need to do one side of the radio....pull it out some and then use them on the other side
Pros: they work
Cons: only way it would be better is if there were 4 of them to do all at once
Worked very good. I was able to get my old head unit out in less then 30 seconds. No problems with fitting or anything.
Pros: Very easy to use and a great tool.
The custoner service tech who helped me order my JVC KD-R650 head unit advised me to get this item. It was absolutely necessary for installing this head unit in my 1995 Mercedes C280. It simplified the wiring a LOT by providing 4 RCA jacks that connected to the left/right, front/rear speaker outputs of the head unit. Sure beats having EIGHT MORE wires to splice into the car's wiring harness. Two of the connectors from the car's wiring harness plug into this adapter. There is no way to connect them incorrectly! The head unit is supplied with a wiring harness that matches the Metra adapter. The eight speaker wires were not used, as the RCA plugs took care of that. There were only 5 wires to connect. Match them color-to-color and you can't go wrong.
Pros: Simple and easy installation. Very little room for error. If you can match 5 colored wires on this adapter to the same 5 colored wires from the radio, you can't.won't do anything wrong. Worked perfectly as soon as I powered up the unit.
Cons: None. Everything with the installation went perfectly.
They work perfectly, old deck was out in 30 seconds
Pros: Do the job quick
You REALLY need these. It's the only time I've ever been able to remove a factory Monsoon system on the first try!!! Be gentle and deliberate when using them though. They are a bit flimsy.
Pros: Keys fit and un-lock the factory Monsoon system from the dash perfectly.
Pros: Works great
Cons: can't think of any
Very easy to use
Pros: Makes job very easy
Popped right out thanks to these
Pros: Super quick and easy with this tool
it worked perfectly, very easy to install
WHAT I NEEDED TO GET MY RADIO OUT. 100 % ON POINT !
Pros: ordered, super fast delivery, helpful sales person- wow- what more could a consumer ask for !!!!
Cons: none !!!
It was too thin to immediately disengage the head unit. I finally gor it to work by sticking both of them into a single slot to unlock the radio.
Pros: Included in the order for free.
Cons: See above.
Factory Radio was out in about 15 seconds!!!
Pros: Easy to use
Made removal of the radio a five minute process, which would have been a disaster to remove otherwise.
Pros: excellent product would never remove radio without
They did exactly what they were supposed to do
Pros: Worked fine
Cons: A lot of sharp edges - would be better if they had a finger hole to help pull the factory radio forward
I've been installing car stereos for quite a while, so I already have a collection of radio keys, but these came with the kit from Crutchfield, so now I have another. These actually seem to be a little better quality than the last set I got. The metal seems a little thicker. Anyway, they did what they were supposed to and I didn't have to dig in my tool box since they came with the kit. I'm happy.
Pros: Effectively free with radio purchase Quality material
These work perfectly. Use once, throw 'em away!
Pros: Perfect for removing Double Din units.
A must for this "Mercedes" based car.
A craftsman never blames his tools. He also has the right tool for the right job. If this is the removal tool you need, buy it. If it is not, get the right one. Be a craftsman.
Got these for removing the OEM stereo from a Mercedes-Benz. They work very well.
Cons: Bend easily.
Worked but needed 4...only sent me 2
Cons: Symphony 1 and 2 radios need 4
They fit, but it's very easy to insert too far into the slots and bend the small levers they clip to. They also have sharp edges, so wear gloves if you use them. The dealership uses a plate with keys attached to insure a proper angle. If you bend the levers, you'll have to remove the dash to pull the VW head unit out so I highly suggest you bring the car to the dealership and have the techs pull the head unit for you.
Pros: They work when inserted properly.
Cons: Sharp edges and easy to insert too far.
Excellent tool for removing Mercedes factory in-dash units.
Pros: Works for my receiver and others
you should have this tools to remove your radio.
These worked great! I inserted these & out came the stock cassette player.
Cons: None really once you know which ends to insert
It does its job. People are crazy with these reviews. Its too sharp? Too flimsy? Its nothing of the sort. It does exactly what its meant to do. Try getting one of these at a dealership.
Pros: I don't have to cut up old credit cars to get my radio out.
Cons: None at all.
They seemed flimsy at first glance but they work just fine, which is all that matters.
The right tool for the job, thanks
Dealer / electronic store wanted 55.00 to remove radio and check fuse. Ordered from crutchfield, received order 2 days flat. Talk about service this was not my first purchase and wil not be my last.
Pros: Worked just as described
The tools work great, and i would give it 5 stars, but I think the manufacturer could stand to smooth the edges on these so they don't scratch as easily. One false move and BANG a nice little scratch in what ever it touches. Other than that, they work exactly as expected. ***Note, they cannot be removed until the radio is pulled as you have to manually press the tabs back in to remove the tools. At that's how it has to be done on an Audi.
Pros: Works as expected. The start design gives you something to pull on to remove the radio as there is really not much to grab hold of on these radios.
Cons: Sharp edges. Carefully of cuts and scratches on anything you might touch with them. Keep them in plastic during storage so they don't damage anything around them.
Cool tools - I have to hide them in the van so my sons don't use them as ninja throwing stars!
Pros: Works on my equipment
Just you basic removal tool, worked fine.
Pros: Did just what it was supposed to do
Smart design. Very easy to use
Great tool, easy to use!
Pros: Ease of use!
Nice and cheap but essential! These things are a must have in order to remove your factory head unit.
Pros: Easy to use
Cons: Cheap and appeared to have already been used with scratches on the metal upon arrival! No point in complaining, they still worked...
Cons: front plate you have to glue on
I used this tool with my Volkswagen beetle monsoon radio. It was a little hard to take out but finally managed after a lot of tugging. You may need another person to take out radio so one person can pull on the tools while the other pulls from the cassette.
Pros: Great price! Came free with the radio
Cons: Slips out, doesn't stay locked in place
While this came with a good picture and how to, the tool was flimsy and didn't really grab onto the radio. Needed a screw driver to pry out the radio since the tool kept letting go.
Pros: Good thought, drawings
Cons: Didn't work as planned, kept slipping off the radio.
Very easy to use no complaints.
It's nice that Crutchfield takes care of you, It's hard telling how much this would have cost if I had to buy one.
Pros: easy to use
The removal Keys worked flawlessly. Much better than trying to make them out of a credit card. Worth the money.
Pros: Worked flawlessly
Cons: No issues.
Works as described. Push inside slots, finegal a bit, pull out headunit. Used on an 02 VW Passat.
Removal tool makes it so simple and easy. Did what it supposed to do.
Pros: Easy to use
They slid right in and clicked as advertised, but simply popped off when I trying to remove the deck. Ended up ripping the face off the existing deck to get it out. In fairness, it was more likely the old deck than the tool...
Pros: Unlocks the deck.
Cons: Would not remove the deck by simply pulling on the tool.
Didn't need them in this case but have always worked well in the past.
Not much else to say but Thanks for including these with my purchase!
worked but cheaply made even for a freebie.
Couldn't have done the job without them!
need for double din vw 2003 jetta
Great tool to removing OEM radio. A great way to reach back and unlatch a radio.
Pros: The instructions were very explanatory for the task with the assurance of technical support.
Just being honest here . I had my own set already , only because the factory Monsoon in my Passat uses 4 removal tools , not 2 . So i had already had the set of my own before this kit .
Pros: But it's nice they include these at no extra cost !
Cons: None .
The tool worked well. I recommend wearing gloves as the pressure needed to remove my factory Porsche CDR-230 deck was painful due to the thin metal. Otherwise would be 5 stars. But Hey! It worked.
Pros: Crutchfield provided it at no additional cost. It worked.
Cons: Metal is thin and could cut, wear gloves and no problem.
On older W124 chassis with somewhat inset radio, the tool does not work unless you bend or cut off one of the three legs. Other than that, it is serviceable and does work as intended.
Pros: Works but may require some modification.
Cons: Needs modification to work on some older MB models.
Very handy tool to get your stock radio out.
Pros: Free and it gets the job done.
Cons: Be careful of the sharp edges.
Didn't use as I had OEM tool.
This removal tool is a good idea and it will get your foreign car's radio out, but the stamped metal design of these are bad. They have sharp edges and I cut my finger pretty good getting my radio out.
Its free. It works.
Pros: Its free and it works
I love the fact that these tools were included with my order! Very handy during removal process.
Universal OEM DIN Radio Removal Tools.
Pros: Did the job
Cons: Took me several tries before I got the factory radio securing feature to release. Razor sharp edges -watch out Gillette you got competition.
Something so simple totally made the install a breeze! If you've never used anything like this before, read the directions. They are thin because they have to be. With that said, be careful because the edges can be sharp. If you're using them correctly they are more than strong enough... If they are bending, you're doing it wrong
Pros: This tool is invaluable!
Cons: May have sharp edges
Read the directions. Saw some goof ball on You Tube use these wrong. If you spend less than a minute reading the directions you will have no problems. WEAR GLOVES when using these. They are cheap and will cut you if you're not careful.
Pros: Free and do the job.
Cons: Poorly made and universal.
Remember, If you want to do the job right you need the right tools. You have to have these tools if you want to remove your stock stereo without damaging your radio or interior trim. Follow the directions. Start out by inserting the tools and pulling out with light pressure on the right side then the left and work the radio out little by little going back and forth from one side to the other and you'll find out it will come out quite nicely.
Cons: edges sharp
Works exactly as designed, good instructions.
I was somewhat skeptical of these tools based on other reviews; however, these worked just fine for me in removing a Bose system from my 2002 Audi A4. Took no more than 5 minutes to do the job. The metal is very thin and sharp. I wore a pair of gloves based on other reviews and things worked fine. Don't know if I'd want these for a commercial opperation where I had to use them frequently but for the job I had, they worked fine.
Pros: Prompt delivery. Worked as advertised.
Cons: Very thin metal; one bent while using but it was easy to straighten out.
I got two sets of DIN tools with my stereo, to remove my old head unit. They were incredibly flimsy, bent on me and had very sharp edged that cut up my fingers and imbedded steel slivers in my hands. I work with my hands, so my callouses can take most minor abuses. These tools exceeded my durability. Be careful, wear gloves.
Pros: not much. They did the work, but just barely.
Cons: thin sheet metal bent easily when force was applied, sharp edges cut up my hands!
Since I didn't do the changeover myself, I assume the installer had no trouble. Thanks for including it.
Pros: It was very convenient to have the ability to get the radio in and out.
Thank you for including these free with my stereo purchase. Nothing like being able to pull the old stereo out in seconds without a lot of sweating, crying, and cursing. It didn't just make it easier, it flat out made it EASY. Crutchfield does it right.
While I had a removal tool for my head unit prior to my order, it's nice to have Crutchfield include one just in case. The steel is rough with sharp edges, but it could do the job.
this was by far the most easy part off the installation off my new radio. the old one came out so easy.
Can it get any easier. They gave me the tools to remove my old radio in seconds!
Did the job in a quick and easy snap! great!
it was so easy to take my factory radio out.i cant belive i used to pay to have a radio in
Man can you say cheap! This tool they sent was the worst ever! It was so flimsy that it kept bending. It never did work on pulling out my factory radio, and I had to resort to actually prying the faceplate off like I was stealing it to get to the tabs and use a screwdriver to pull the radio out. Good thing I had a new radio to go in or I would have been screwed. The tools were made of very cheap metal and kept bending and were very sharp.
The JVC deck that I purchased came with the necessary tools so I didn't need or use these.
I didn't think I would need these, but since I had to wait for some other parts to exchange my stereo, I decided to pay the few bucks to add them to my order - I am glad I did! These made getting the factory radio out of my Crossfire a two second operation rather than 15 minutes of fiddling with thin bladed screw drivers. Highly recommendedA
While the tool could potentially work for its intended purpose, it is flimsy and difficult to hold/pull on. While I understand that it shouldn't need more than a slight tug, if at all, on difficult pulls where the radio unit doesn't cooperate, the tool hurt to pull on. Save yourself the trouble and invest the $ in a decent pull set if you are going to be needing them on a time to time basis. For one time pulls, I suppose this tool would be sufficient.
They work perfectly. The only thing keeping it from being 5 stars is that these things are razor sharp! Wear some good gloves when you use them, either that or make sure your first aid kit is well stocked.
Worked like a charm!
These made it so easy to get the old radio out that I smiled!
Worked perfectly, made removal a piece of cake.
I used these to remove a radio from an Audi TT. While the tool is necessary, the radio was stuck and could not be removed by these tools alone. I found an internet video explaining how to remove the radio if it's stuck. The video has a disclaimer that using their method can be dangerous, but I was able to remove the radio without any damage.
Amazingly easy to use. Just make sure and read the directions first.
I have a double DIN radio in my 2001 Audi A6, and I ordered two pairs of these tools to fit into the four slots on the radio. I popped all four tools in, they all clicked, then I gently pulled the radio out, and I was done. Literally took less than five minutes to remove the radio, fantastic tools. A note: Once I had the tools in, I wasn't really sure how to get them out. I'm not sure if everyone else just knows, but I was pulling at the tools assuming they just slide back out. What I found out is, on the sides of the radio once you pull it out, are four metal tabs. If you push these tabs in with the tools still in the radio, the tool will unclip, and you can pull it right out.
Made removal much easier.
Worked perfectly on first attempt!!!!!!!!!!!!!
When I put them in my radio they all "clicked" into place but then when I went to pull out the radio, the tools just came right back out. So I had to put them in to unlock the radio and then pry it out with screwdrivers. And yes they are very sharp.
Product worked OK, instructions sent with stereo (supposed to be vehicle specific) said to use wrong end of tool. After thumping head against wall read the instructions that came inside bag with tool and like magic it all worked out.
These were provided "free" when I purchased the radio. Although they claimed they were a value, I wouldn't have paid a dime for them. The edges were as everyone states, increadibly sharp. I sliced all 10 of my fingers in the first 5 seconds of trying to remove the radio. Thank goodness my car had leather, I bled everywhere. One of the tools wouldn't unlock the radio, and the other wouldn't come out at first. BEWARE!
The key is very easy to use and the stereo just pop right off
Overall, the four Universal OEM DIN Radio Removal Tools I used to remove the radio in my 2003 VW Passat worked well. Firstly, they are very SHARP and, if you are not careful, you will cut yourself. Secondly, they are flimsy and they will easily bend if you are not careful. Thirdly, they were easy to insert into the radio but difficult to remove so be patient and don't panic.
Works pretty good. the best part is that they are usually free with the order of a head unit. They can be a little flimsy, but overall work well.
If only I had more uses for these tools! I couldn't believe how quickly my radio slid out.
Does the job. Flimsy. More importantly has some sharp edges that weren't removed after they were stamp cut. With some care you can avoid cuts
Worked perfectly, saved me a ton of time!!
This product work good I saved mine after removing the stock radio from the jetta. I would recommend that to anyone.
the key will do exactly what it said will do: remove factory radio. just click, and pull. I have an 03 Jetta.
does exactly what it's supposed to.
These tools make removal of the OEM head unit quick and effortless. I used them on the dual-DIN unit in my 2003 Passat and it was out in seconds.
It was very easy to remove the stock headunit from my 97 VW Passat with these. I was a bit concerned about the warning sticker that says they contain a chemical known to the state of California to cause cancer and birth defects, but I haven't noticed any problems as of yet.
This tool works PERFECT. I am not sure how you would get the radio out of the VW Beetle without this DIN Key. I slid them in, heard a little click and pulled. The radio came right out - perfect! Thanks Crutchfield!
Compatibility: These factory head unit removal keys are designed for many VW, Audi, and Mercedes vehicles, plus a few Chrysler, Dodge, Ford, Land Rover, Porsche, Smart and Volvo models. If required (some cars require two sets), they'll be added with the installation package you choose.
Note: These removal keys may be compatible with an increasing number of vehicles as newer models become available.
