Average Customer Review(s):
Fits good on my truck.
This dash kit adds a stock look to the installation of my new Kenwood head unit.
Pros: Adds good, stock look to head unit installation
Excellent fit and easy install. Works great for my Pilot.
I purchased this kit for a 2005 Honda Pilot EX-L w/Navigation to replace the factory radio in the bottom portion of the dash. Unfortunately, I was sent this kit, which is for the Honda Pilots without the navigation, where the radio is mounted at the top of the dash. The two models use different dash kits. Had to stop my install because I didn't have the correct part. Now I have to find the correct kit and complete the install on another weekend. Got the dash pulled apart, old radio removed, and cant finish the job.
Pros: Not much.
Cons: Wrong part. Plastic. Not sure how it holds up.Crutchfield response on November 22, 2016 Because of Dean's informative review, our Vehicle Integration Buyer, Darren, conferred with one of our lead Tech Advisors, Cris, and is considering upgraded the kit options we have available for select Honda Pilot models.
Went in with extreme ease and allows the head unit to adjust to sit flush with the trim. Very professional looking.
Pros: Easy install
Must have when installing in my pilot. Highly recommended
Pros: Like factory install Fits like a glove
The dash kit was not quite centered vertically in the dash opening. I holds the head unit too high by a millimeter or two. Consequently I had to leave a couple of mounting screws loose on the head unit so that it could tilt slightly to acommodate the misalignment. It is barely noticeable in the installation but it bugs me and it might work loose later.
Cons: Imperfect fit but close
Makes my Honda Pilot look great!
Makes my Honda Pilot looks great!
Made the install super easy. No minor adjustment needed and came with the trim for both location installations.
Cons: Kinda cheap looking in the bag but matches the car. I don't know if that's mean I have a cheap car but it looked good when it was all done.
looks great on my dash.
Pros: Very easy to install
Nice that it came with two trims to give me flexibility. Very happy with end result
Worked perfectly in my wife's 2005 Honda Pilot. Used it with a Sony head unit, holes lined up perfectly. Actually has like a billion potential hole combination so it'll probably work with anything.
Pros: looks stock
Cons: plastic brackets not as sturdy at the metal stock ones
The kit fit my 2006 pilot fine, the plastic brackets were a little tough to sort out, so I wound up using the metal ones from the old radio. The dash plate did a good job of filling in the spaces left by the difference in the two radios
Pros: Good match to the dash.
Cons: Little to no instructions as to how to use the plastic radio brackets and too much trouble trial and error trying to make them work when the original metal brackets worked fine.
Purchased this to install a kenwood in my college kid's Honda
Pros: Easy to install. Looks like it belongs there
Perfect fit, looks like it came with my vehicle. I love it.
Pros: Neutral color, blends in with my dash board, perfect fit, two sizes to choose from.
No problems using this kit to install an after-market receiver.
2006 Pilot. Kit fit around head unit nicely. Looked professional after putting dash back together. Brackets were plastic is the reason for the 4.
Pros: Good fit, professional look
Cons: Plastic brackets
I like Metra, but this particular kit just seems cheaper than most I've tried. It's a 3 piece fit, and there are 2 different options for the trim. If you have an LX you will use the smaller face trim plate, if not you use the big one. It is a Tight fit! Took me a few tries to get it into place because I felt like I was prying the Head Unit to get it down far enough to pop it back together.
Pros: Works, Easy to assemble
Cons: Feels light, cheaper plastic.
Easy to install, perfect fit, and looks great.
Pros: easy to install perfect fit looks great
Perfect fit. Directions were exact.
Pros: Perfect fit and design. Easy to install.
The dash kit fit perfectly. I didn't give it 5 stars because the directions were pretty much non existent. Descent directions would have saved me at least a half hour of install time.
Cons: Lousy directions.
Perfect fit with head unit and look nice in dash
I love that Crutchfield includes install kits like this, and I don't have to hunt down everything I need. Thanks!
Pros: Super easy install. Came together quite easily
Cons: One star off because it's not quite as solid as the metal factory bracket.
Pros: It fits the radio
Cons: Did not fit correctly in the truck. I had to pull it dowd about 1/4 inch down to get the bezel to fit over.
Like others, I found the bracket was slightly off when installing a double DIN radio in my wife's 2006 Honda Pilot. The angle wasn't quite right--the deck was angled up too high, which meant there wasn't enough room at the top of the radio for the dash piece to fit, and a quarter inch or so gap at the bottom of the dash surround. To correct the angle and make it work, I added quarter inch thick washers behind the bracket for just the top screw on each side when attaching the radio. Thankfully the screws were long enough to catch thread, and that additional space angled the radio down just enough to get the dash in place. Once it's in and all the dashboard elements are in place, it fits and looks fine.
Pros: Ease of use
Cons: Poorly designed
Bezels were perfect fit. The mounting brackets didn't fit properly had to use washers for it to fit right in the dash.
Pros: Clean install
Cons: Brackets not molded properly for fit.
Easy to put in and fit just right. Easy ordering.
Pros: Just what I needed to finish off job.
My 2005 Pilot EX fits this Metra kit, but does not fit the Scosche kit. Scosche confirmed theirs won't fit all of the EX models. It seems Honda swapped parts in/out in the EX/LX models based on availability during manufacturing. I'm going to rig the Scosche bezel with the smooth surface and use the brackets from the Metra to get the perfect fit for my EX.
Pros: Fits my 2005 Pilot EX where the Scosche doesn't.
Cons: Bad finish, not smooth.
Fit not great. Finish poor. Changed to Scotsche.
I used to this to complete a factory looking install. The trim ring is necessary to eliminate the gap.
Pros: Trim ring fit
Cons: Didn't care for the plastic side mounts but at this price point you can complain.
Great! Really easy to install and everything assembled seamlessly.
Pros: Everything Fits
Will not fit my wife's 2008 Honda Pilot, stereo sits about 1/2" too high to fit through the trim panel.
Cons:Crutchfield response on May 14, 2014 Our tech support team reached out to the customer to see if they could help. An adjustment to the installation kit just might solve the problem.
This didn't fit my 2006 Honda LX. The radio is set .25" to high and the dash trim will not go on. It can be modified to work if you have a dremel and a little skill. Need to offset the side mounts .25" down in the bezel frame.
Pros: The bezel fits fine.
Cons: Not for a 2006 Honda LX!
I probably would have, and should have, stuck with the existing brackets that were in my 2008 Honda Pilot, but because these were shipped free with my new Clarion CX501, I decided to install using this kit. It's not the best fit, and it is slightly uneven (only noticeable if you are REALLY looking hard at one side vs. the other), but to the untrained eye, it looks like a nice, professional installation.
Cons: Fit is a little wonky. Brackets don't line up well.
The parts by themselves are great. The side plates snapped into the faceplate securely and the finish on the pieces were blended into the dash well. The problem is that it just did not fit in my 2006 Pilot. It bracket placed the radio about 3/4" of an inch too high. I ended up purchasing a Scosche dash kit (PN HA1703B). It dropped in perfectly.
Cons: It does not fit in a 2006 Pilot
Awesome fit! Lots of choices for different trim models and even fits other vehicles.
Pros: Perfect Fit and FREE!
I have a honda pilot 2004, this dash kit does not fit, Very poorly made product, had a huge gap between the face plate of the stereo and the face plate of Metra, Crutchfield had no resolution. The product finish does not match of the car's dash. I had to by a scosche dash kit, it fitted better and its build quality is so much better than Metra.
Cons: lots of cons
Installed kenwood receiver into 2003 Honda Pilot and looks great!
Perfect fit for my 2004 Honda Pilot. No gaps, no spaces. Looks OEM
Looks good, fits good
I had to shim up the top bracket attaches with 3/16" nuts to even get the radio to sit close to properly in the dash. The top of the stereo protrudes a bit, but is flush on the bottom, so I'll live with, but the bottom line is the kit doesn't really fit without modifications. Spent way too much time fiddling with what would otherwise have been a straightforward installation. I called Crutchfield, and they said this is the kit they have been using for years for the Honda Pilots - but that doesn't change the fact that the kit doesn't 100% fit.
Cons: There is a design defect with the brackets for the 2006- 2008 Honda Pilot without navigation version of this kit - doesn't work without modifications, and even then isn't perfect.
This product appears to work for some Pilots in the year range given for it. However, it does not work for the 2007 Pilot LX model. When installed, the unit is too high, sticking out too far, and angled up at the wrong level. The trim piece cannot fit with this kit. I had to purchase factory brackets and glue the front trip piece in place to get this to look even half way decent. I didn't have the factory brackets since this was my second aftermarket stereo and I didn't keep the brackets on the first replacement. Sadly, there does not appear to be a kit out there that fits my Pilot, so there really isn't a better solution out there.
Pros: Multiple face plates
Cons: Does not fit vehicle
Seems to fit well and was super easy to install. My only issue was the two choices of face plates didn't have the "A" or "B" printed anywhere and I had to manually see if one would fit.
Pros: Looks nice, easy to install
Cons: No "A" or "B" printed anywhere for the different types of Pilots.
Perfect fit for my 2005 Pilot EX.Installed a double DIN Kenwood CD receiver. No modifications needed.
Kit is well designed but poor fitting. I had to put spacers (1/8 inch washers) behind the mounting brackets to tilt the unit forward so I could re-install my Honda Bezel
Pros: Ease of use The manufacturer did an admirable job of trying to help me fit the unit into my 07 Pilot
Cons: poorly fitting
This kit does not fit the 2008 Honda Pilot as stated. The side bracket holes do not line up correctly to allow the head unit to angle down far enough to clear the factory dash bezel. I tried talking to tech support and they did not know why it wasn't working and didn't have a solution for me. I ended up adding two plastic washers behind the top two screws (switching the supplied screws with some longer one's I picked up) that connect the radio to the car. This angled the unit down enough to clear the dash bezel but it also makes the radio trim piece sit at an angle rather than flush with the bezel. Like other reviewers, I might try and make my own bracket and trim piece. I'm reluctant to use the factory radio (metal) brackets because then I won't be able to sell the OEM unit. Crutchfield is an amazing vendor and their products are almost always spot on, they really dropped the ball with this item. Maybe if we all bug tech support some more, they'll fix the issue and send replacements! One can only hope, right?
Pros: I technically didn't pay for it, since it was included with the purchase of my DVD Reciever.
Cons: It just doesn't fit. I had to modify everything about it AND purchase washers and screws to make it 'fit'.
For my 2006 EX-L, definitely this is not the right part for the job. Plastic brackets were too thick to fit where thin metal brackets were. I ended up pulling brackets from the OEM radio. Front bezel was right size without the head unit (radio). It did not have enough space for the the radio. I had to custom make them. Two things need to happen on this kit to be useful: Replace plastic bracket with metal one. Front bezel should have much thinner top and bottom. Don't bother with this kit. Just use the metal bracket from OEM and do something clever with the gap around the head unit. Black duck tape, maybe?
DID NOT FIT 2006 HONDA PILOT! I'm in the US military stationed overseas, so I have to rely on organizations such as yours to get quality stereo products for vehicles. I've purchased my last 5 vehicle stereos from Crutchfield and I have NEVER had a problem with the installation. The adapter DID not align the stereo properly. In order to fix the problem, I pulled the brackets off of the stock stereo and attached them directly to the JVC stereo. This took away the attachment for the trim ring, so I have it just resting in the hole. I guess I can't go four-wheeling of the trim will come flying out! I am very dissappointed with this receiver kit.
Cons: DOES NOT FIT 2006 HONDA PILOT!
Works great and looks good on my 2004 Pilot EX. Even gap around my stereo, and has a nice textured finish. Easy installation too.
Does not fit 2006 Honda Pilot EX. When it's fully tightened the gap between the top of the player and the dash is 1/2". There needs to be over 1" for all the trim of the dash to be put back into place. I will have to get a different one to properly mount my head unit. Really inconvenient to have to pull my dash back apart to redo this. Not impressed, Metra.
Generally a good fit although the gap between the head unit and the trim is a bit wider than I would like; not a deal breaker, just an observation. Price was right ;)
Kit does not fit the 06 honda pilot as stated. Holes in the bracket do not allow the head unit to angle down far enough to clear the factory trim on my 06 honda pilot lx. I had to go buy another kit. Even though, I had to trim down the bezel in order for it to fit the lx radio opening it did allow enough angle to clear the factory trim. The kit does not include smaller trim bezel for the lx model.
I'm glad I didn't spend any money on this kit because it didn't work with my 2006 Honda Pilot and the new Kenwood deck I installed (DDX514). The bracket offset made the deck sit up too high so the dash panel wouldn't go back on around it. I ended up using the metal brackets that came with my factory stereo. Now I just have to figure out what to do about a trim ring.
