Our take on the Metra 99-5720 Dash and Wiring Kit
Metra's 99-5720 dash and wiring kit allows you to install an aftermarket receiver in the oval-shaped dash opening of a 1997-up Ford Escort or 1997-99 Mercury Tracer. The package includes a mounting kit (which allows you to install the new radio) and a wiring harness (which connects the new radio to the factory receiver's plug). You must remove the climate controls from the factory radio and attach them to the new kit.
Note: You must cut your dashboard in order to use this kit — the alterations will NOT be visible if the factory radio is reinstalled.
Note: Most vehicles will require additional installation parts please identify your vehicle if you haven’t done so. You can also call an Advisor for more information.

Dash Kit: This kit allows you to install an aftermarket receiver into 1997-2000 Ford Escort and 1997-99 Mercury Tracer models without factory amplifiers. Three circular openings below the receiver slot accommodate the factory Fan Control switch, Temperature Control switch and Vent Control switch. The rear defrost switch is also located on the front of the kit. Attached to the rear of the kit are several wires, some of which plug into factory harnesses and others that need to be spliced into the wiring of the new receiver.
Power Adapter Plug: Attached to the back of the kit is a set of wires and the Power Adapter Plug. This gray 6-pin plug connects to a matching factory harness. Five 6" wires coming out of the plug need to be spliced to the new receiver's wiring harness.
Rear Defrost Wiring: Attached to the back of the kit is a 3-pin wiring plug for reconnecting the factory Rear Defrost wiring harness.
Speaker Wiring Adapter: Supplied with the kit is an 8" Speaker Wiring adapter. The black plastic end of the harness plugs into the vehicle's factory speaker harness. The bare ends of the harness need to be spliced to the speaker output wires of the new receiver.
Aftermarket Radio Connection: This Metra OEM Integration Kit features the following hardwire connections to your aftermarket head unit and factory system.

Why did you buy this?
Adapts stereo to odd arrangement Ford uses. [ F Apr 18, 2017 ]
I thought it best to stick with the recommended items. The cost was better than anywhere else when bundled with the new radio. Also, I was impressed overall with Crutchfield's complete setup for all necessary parts for this installation. The alternative was to piece it togther from other sources. Frankly, I was not seeing any savings in that. Finally, should I need support, I know that I can reference a Crutchfield item # and order for faster answers. [ Joseph Aug 14, 2016 ]
