Marine stereo receiver cover

Michael P from southbridge, MA on 3/22/2016

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this stereo cover for the Kenwood marine stereo that I bought for my Harley Davidson Road King. The fit is great and the install was easy, but when the cover is opened to access the stereo, the cover does not stay up. Not totally terrible, should definitely keep the stereo protected but I wish it would stay up when opened.

This cover works great even in the HOT, SALTY, Hawaiian waters. Average wind speeds are about 20- 30 mph in the waters between islands and the cover blocked out all the wind splash. If can stand up to these harsh conditions, it will protect your investment even better in a fresh water lake. My son broke the cover by accident while traveling between islands, so I had to buy another one.

Pros: Awesome protection!

Cons: You have to open the cover to hook up AUX or USB connections of you don't have Bluetooth connections.

Does what it's designed to do

Great product. Works as described

Pros: Protects radio from water and mud.

Cons: None so far

not bad

river rat from grand island, Nebraska on 1/7/2014

Great way to add extra protection in my river jeep. However it will not waterproof it. Buy an aftermarket mounting unit and a marine receiver and mount it in the glove box and once it's all hooked up silicone all openings and it keeps it nice and dry for the most part when you get into the deep water! It's extra work but worth it if you don't want to keep buying new receivers every week

Nice Fit / Weak Spring

Mr. Ed from Central PA on 7/22/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Worked perfect for my application. Nice look and protection from the elements. After one week the cover would not stay open...contacting Crutchfield for advice.

Pros: Ease of installation. Good protection for the radio face.

Cons: Weak spring on the cover

The spring loaded cover makes no attempt to stay open, apparently a defective product. I returned it and will try something else.

Looks nice. The Metra's big, rounded corners didn't cover the entire cutout of my dash.

Pros: Looks well built.

Cons: Didn't fit my application.

Helps, not a cure for wet use in a Jeep

Paul from Maryland on 1/10/2009

Crutchfield specifically lists this as a way to protect a radio in your Jeep. This certainly helps protect the faceplate, IF you have no issues with dash interference. But in my TJ, water reaches the back and top of the radio area through the dash. This is NOT an alternative to a marine rated head unit in a Jeep you really do get WET, but it could be the final piece in keeping a marine rated radio dry in truly wet use of your Jeep. By itself, it will NOT be enough to keep a non-marine head unit from shorting out when spashing through the wet stuff with the top off. Take note, though, marine rated head units tend to be water resistant, not waterproof; you can't submerge them.

Hands-on research

Product Research

Overview: The Universal water-resistant radio cover protects your car stereo receiver in marine applications (or open off-road vehicles). The kit allows you to install most DIN or 2-shaft receivers. No special tools are required to install the cover.

Note: Installing a DIN receiver requires cutting the shaft cups from the frame.

Hinged Cover: The kit features an Accu-view tinted hinged cover with a spring-loaded latch. The heavy-duty hinged cover is supported by dual springs which support the cover while it's open.

Water Resistance: The kit is equipped with a foam gasket to protect the receiver from water seeping in from around the frame. Also, the outer frame has a rubber ring gasket around the receiver opening to protect the face plate from water entering from around the closed cover.

Dimensions: The cover has the following dimensions:

  • Outer Dimensions: W=8.948", H=4.206", D=1.909" (D=4.172" with cover open)
  • Internal Cover Dimensions: W=7.5" H=2.36" (maximum allowable space for receiver's trim ring)
  • Internal Depth: 1.465" (maximum receiver nose depth allowable)
  • Sleeve Opening: W=7.17" H=2.08" (allowable space for receiver's DIN sleeve or chassis--some slight filing to kit opening may be required)
