Overview

Our take on the Axxess ASWC-1 Steering Wheel Control Adapter

The ASWC-1 adapter from Axxess allows you to connect your vehicle's steering wheel controls to almost any brand of aftermarket stereo, including Alpine, Clarion, JVC, Kenwood, Pioneer, Sony, and more. (Note: your new stereo must have a 3.5mm steering wheel control or wired remote control input.)

Keep your steering wheel audio controls

The ASWC-1 adapter from Axxess allows you to connect your vehicle's steering wheel controls to almost any brand of aftermarket stereo, including Alpine, Clarion, JVC, Kenwood, Pioneer, Sony, and more. (Note: your new stereo must have a 3.5mm steering wheel control or wired remote control input.)

Installation is a straightforward process. You usually have to connect a few wires to your factory wiring. In most cases, the adapter automatically recognizes the vehicle it's been connected to. If not, you can manually program the adapter for your vehicle by following a step-by-step process with LED confirmation. Once connected, the adapter's memory retains its programming even if battery power is interrupted. A USB slot allows you keep the ASWC-1 current when updates become available. Warranty: 1 year.

Installation Note: This adapter will not retain your vehicle's factory Bluetooth functionality. Please identify your vehicle or call an Advisor at 1-888-955-6000 to see if the ASWC-1 adapter is compatible with your vehicle.

Wiring Advisory: You'll usually have to tap or splice into one to three wires in your vehicle at the radio location to connect this interface. If you're using a Metra Axxess OEM integration adapter to connect your new car stereo to your vehicle, then it most likely will have a prewired connector for this Axxess ASWC-1 adapter. In these cases, no additional wiring in required. Axxess does provide custom wiring instructions for all confirmed compatible vehicles on their website.

As a part of the installation of a JVC stereo in my wife's 2004 Infiniti G35 Coupe. I was skeptical that it would be able to make the steering wheel controls function with the new stereo. Along with the interface, it works perfectly.

Flat-out didn't work. Tech support people were responsive, but nothing that they suggested worked, although they confirmed correct wiring. Unit did recognize the receiver I have, but didn't recognize the steering wheel controls. Gave up after several hours.

The device is very intuitive and easy to install. Directions are good. I installed the adapter on a 1987 Harley and it was kind of a custom installation (which is not supported) but the project went well.

2004 Lexus RX330
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Used this interface to access my steering wheel radio controls. These is a specific sequence of actions, power-on, power-off, door open , door close. Call Tech for details on your car. May require adding a resistor somewhere. Luckily I didn't need it. The unit self-detect my steering wheel controls correctly. I had originally intended to program it so I could answer the phone and hang up using the long press button capability. This has to be done before complete installation and counting flashes. More risk for the effort so I didn't do this.

Pros: Auto-detection of cars controls worked great.

Cons: Can't easily progam switches after full installation

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Worked fine with a new Blaupunkt head unit installed in a 2009 Hyundai Santa Fe. Instructions say to splice and soldier connections I used wire taps I purchased from Crutchfield and they worked fine and made installation so much easier. Followed instructions for adapter and new head unit on programing the steering wheel buttons everything worked fine. Take your time and read instruction and all should work as they are supposed to.

Pros: Small and easy to install.

Cons: None so far.

T D from Brandon, MS on 2/1/2017

2006 Chevrolet Tahoe

Used this to retain steering wheel controls in '06 Tahoe. Worked flawlessly. Was easy to hook up and programming was simple. All controls work with new radio. One thing I would mention is the instructions from the manufacture tell you to keep pushing volume up button during programming. I would advise they amend that to mean the volume button on the steering wheel, not the head unit which I was incorrectly doing. Thanks to quick call to Crutchfield I was politely informed the correct way and instantly it worked after doing it correctly. Thanks as always Crutchfield.

Pros: Easy to install, easy to program. Small form factor so does not take up much room inside dash.

Cons: Instructions could have been slightly more clear, otherwise no complaints.

Flawlessly preserves the steering wheel control functions.

2004 Toyota Highlander
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This was recommended by Crutchfield to preserve the operation of the steering wheel controls on my '04 Toyota Highlander when I replaced the factory JBL audio system with a new Kenwood. It was easy to install with the new Kenwood and auto programs when first powered up. It took only a few seconds to recognize and adapt to the system and it works flawlessly. Nothing to do but let it do it's thing, tuck it away and forget it. A great addition to my new audio system.

Pros: Simple to install, completely self programming. Just tuck it away behind the radio and forget it.

Cons: None for my installation.

barely adequate, but works

2009 Volvo S60
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The Axxess ASWC-1 Steering Wheel control adapter works as it should in my 2009 volvo. It is not a quick install, however - you have to also take a few steps to program it. Programming it is easy enough, but it requires the car to be powered. In a volvo, powering the car without the HVAC controls connected results in an airbag fault light which can only be reset by the dealer or a volvo-specific code scanner. So, it's a bit of a pain. Also, a big disappointment for me is that unlike the steering wheel control adapter Crutchfield provided for an older 2005 volvo, this unit does not provide an illumination wire to automatically dim the radio display at night. If there is another option for HU integration, take it.

Pros: Steering wheel buttons function

Cons: Requires powered-up programming does not provide illumination control

I received the after market adapter for my 2016 Nissan Sentra and am unable to have it installed. I purchased a JVC Iplay stereo through Crutchfield and the wiring harness does not match any harness that is accessible on my vehicle. Don't have functional experience to relate. Wiring was too hard given the existing harness in my 2015 Nissan Versa Nate. I managed to undo the damage and forget the steering wheel control. Easier to control the head unit, itself. a no splicing harness would have helped. I can envision a simple harness solution, but, I guess they have not gotten to my make/model yet. I still love Crutchfield, don't get me wrong!

Great product, poor tech support

Shaun from PA on 1/17/2017

2007 Chevrolet Cobalt

I have a Sony head unit and was having a problem with the Axxess ASWC-1, it kept resetting my radio, making my clock kept resetting and forgetting my presets and the steering wheel controls wouldn't work either. Spent many hours on phone with Sony and Axxess tech support and got nowhere. They had me trying eveything and nothing worked. Sony even told me that my Head unit may be bad. So I decided to take matters in my own hands, because i knew my head unit was just fine. After i disconnected the Axxess ASWC-1, my radio worked just fine (No resetting of clock and presets). Since this Axxess ASWC-1 consumes no real power, i decided to run a dedicated (Constant) power wire from battery to the Access ASC-1, and everything worked just fine. I did have to manually program the Axxess ASWC-1. Its been three months and still working just fine. The Axxess ASWC-1 doesn't draw really anything from the battery even though i hooked it up as a constant. And just so everyone reading this will ask, NO, i did not have it originally hooked up to the accessory, i had it hooked up to the constant on the harness and it was still resetting my radio (It would only reset after car was parked for several hours; basically every morning. but during the day it was fine)

Pros: Works great, once you getting it working

Cons: Needed a firmware update and better pictures in the instructions

It wouldn't work at all initially. I was getting alternating red and green led no matter what I tried. I then updated firmware after reading some of the reviews here. Pros: Works great after update, easy programming.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Fully functional after a large amount of messing with it. Make sure to heed the advice in the booklet that comes with the adapter (not the direction from Crutchfield/Axxess) and take the ground wire to chassis ground NOT the wiring harness ground and do not share this ground for the AXXESS. Never could get the adapter to identify the car until noticing this information in the booklet. Support didn't help with this either. Do not like splicing behind factory connectors....Metra should have wire out connectors for the ASWC-1.

Pros: Provides steering wheel controls on Nissan Maxima

Cons: Have to splice wires behind factory wiring harness connector when using Metra wiring adapter.

I own a 2004 Dodge Ram SLT Quad cab with the infinity sound system. I replaced the factory radio with a Kenwood dnx572bh. By far this has to be the easiest steering wheel interface to install and the auto detect works awesome!! Prior to this purchase I purchased a idatalink Maestro RR which only works with a 2004 dodge darango as far as 2004 dodge vehicles. I then purchased a ControlPro PAC SWI-CP1 which before purchasing I called PAC tech support and asked about ease of installation and compatibility with my vehicle. Upon installing the easy 5 wire install it didn't work. Called manufacturers tech support again and was told to return it where it was purchased??? 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This adapter was far easier to use than I expected. While it clearly has a ton of capabilities, installing it in my 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee to hook up the existing steering wheel controls to my new Pioneer head unit was stupid simple. It took exactly 1 wire. One wire! (OK I also had to connect it to ground, but that barely counts.) I literally spent more time trying to figure out why it wasn't more complicated than I did hooking it up. It auto-detected my vehicle on the first try and all the features work like a charm!

Pros: Easy to install, automatically detected my vehicle, gave me all the vehicle's factory feature set with my after market stereo

Cons: Somehow, it seems like it should be more complicated. (This isn't much of a "con" is it?!)

This is a great gadget. I put it in my 2006 2500HD along with a Pioneer 830. I got it together and the autoprogramming function worked but it mixed up some of the controls. So I manually programmed the controls via their instructions. This worked for the most part. I had to get creative how I programmed it to get the right buttons to do the right thing. I have a button that is supposed to select presets up and presets down. It will only go up. I have yet to contact tech support about this, perhaps they can solve it. I suspect also that there may be some software interfacing that isn't cooperating. We'll see what tech support has to say when I call them. All in all, I feel it is a good product. T

Works great, easy install. I was very apprehensive before doing this install because of the steering wheel controller, but with the right wiring harness adapter and Axxess tech support (got right through to them the two times I called), it took all of maybe 2 minutes to connect to my 2006 Rav4 steering wheel controller. It automatically found my car did did the setup by itself. I thought I would have to manually adjust the seek buttons, but realized it was a radio function that i needed to change, not the adapter.

Pros: Easy install and setup, but need to call support to get it right. Support was also easy to reach, got right through.

Cons: Wiring instructions didn't make any sense.

I'm going to assume the second one they send me works. It was easy to program and steering wheel controls worked like they were suppose to. You can also change what the buttons control, which is cool. Problem is that every time I turned off the vehicle the unit reset and I had to reprogram it. Crutchfield is replacing it.

Pros: Can reset steering wheel buttons to do different commands.

Cons: Hopefully this is a fluke that it resets every time the vehicle is shut down.

- I double and triple checked that the wires I needed (Pink and Blue/Pink) were in connected to their corresponding wires and it still would not work. - Pressing down on my SYNC paddle caused my head unit to turn off completely. - The only thing that I was able to get was the "volume up button" (only after looking at some threads that I would have to make sure I was in the "SYNC Line In" mode) but no other buttons.

Pros: Came pre-wired in my wiring harness

Cons: Would not work after multiple attempts Shut off my Head Unit after pressing "SYNC" paddle

works perfectly in an NC mazda miata! simply hooked it up as instructed from the fit guide on the axxess website (instructions from crutchfield are generic and garbage. Get the vehicle specific from the axxess website.) and it worked flawlessly. just make sure to use good connectors. those crappy blue splice connectors that you can get at autozone and oreillys wont work. they dont give a good enough connection to the vehicle harness to be used. also keep in mind that you may have to splice wires depending on the vehicle.

Pros: auto programming easy install works perfectly

Cons: a bit bulky going behind the radio. need to route it into footwell can be difficult to understand a lot of extra wires crutchfield instructions for device are generic

Read the instructions, then call Crutchfield tech support. Don't waste a bunch of time trying to figure it out. Seems to work usually. It went weird on me once where the functions changed, but working again now. Once wired, recognized everything without programming. The instructions wanted me to solder into the factory harness. This device is a smart way to preserve the steering wheel controls when installing an aftermarket stereo. It was fairly easy to connect and program (it did most of the programming by itself). So far it works just like it was designed. I initially had a few glitches when using the radio and changing the volume. On occasion it'd change the preset station instead. A re-programing seemed to fix the issue, but only time will tell if it fixed it 100%. It works great for all other options (CD, Pandora, Bluetooth audio, etc.).

The installation and programming manual is awful. I have a 200 Pontiac Grand Prix and the following buttons on the steering wheel work: "Volume", "Seek", "Mute" "Play" (although it changes sources). The "AM/FM button" does nothing and apparantly can't be programmed. The "Preset" button is just another Seek up button and can't be re-programmed. Axxess technical support leaves a lot to be desired. I called them and the wait time said it was 1 minute. I was on hold for 20 minutes and then the call dropped. I had to call back and wait another 15 minutes. The install wasn't difficult, just had to splice into a couple of wires. Setting up the buttoms seemed like a huge pain and I couldn't figure it out for a long time. After pressing tons of random buttons, the reset button a hundred times, it somehow started to work. I don't know how, I never upgraded the firmware but it somehow figured itself out and now it works...except the bluetooth buttons. Bluetooth buttons still do not work but I like it that way because I hate accidentally pressing those buttons and calling someone.

Pros: Somehow started working correctly even though I didn't know exactly what I was doing. (Wiring was correct, the programming was confusing.)

Cons: Confusing as anything to setup and Bluetooth buttons do not work.

Other options I have not try the blue tooth stuff yet I just fill up a USB driver with some tunes and Rock that out !

Pros: easier to install than I originally thought worked properly the first time I tried it

Inexpensive, works perfectly right out of the box and super easy to install. It detected the truck and worked immediately. I programmed a few long button presses since I'm limited on buttons and that helped also. I did have trouble understanding the instructions on how to reprogram a button and gave up after trying many different interpretations - never was able to reprogram a button press, but I'm sure Crutchfield would have sorted it out if I called. It just wasn't that important so I didn't bother. I heartily recommend this product and Crutchfield. I don't shop anywhere else - the customer service is second to none.

Pros: Lowest priced option they had super easy to install Detects the vehicle by itself so no programming Fantastic customer support

Cons: The reprogramming instructions were vague

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I'm not a professional installer, but this unit was fairly easy for me to connect between my 2001 Xterra and a modern Pioneer Double-DIN radio. I believe two things would have been very valuable to know ahead of installing it: 1> The unit can (should) be updated and programmed using a laptop and a USB micro B cable (very common cable used for cellphones, etc.) BEFORE sealing it up in the dash. 2> Without programming / updated the unit, the functions of my specific steering wheel controls were misplaced and mixed up, though functional.

Pros: Functions are there. Installation is easy.

Cons: Instructions really should emphasize that the unit should be programmed / updated for full and best functionality AND that the cable required for that update is a common USB micro-B cable.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

It works, but it took me a while to get it right. My fault for not reading the instructions through completely before installing. One should be able to view the lights on the back of the unit when setting it up. I, unfortunately, installed it, closed up the dash, and could not see it. Had to set it up blindly. Great help from Crutchfield Tech Support, though. Was able to get it on second try. AGAIN, read the instructions through first.

Pros: Controls volume and station changing as it is supposed to do.

Cons: Does NOT connect or work the steering wheel controls for the phone. (I did not have that before, so it is no big deal.) Also, if it is not set up correctly, it will cause the radio to act a little funky. For example, it made my radio volume suddenly drop by about 1/3 and also change channel and display - all by itself! Once I got it set up correctly everything worked just fine.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Warning: If you own a 2008 Ford Edge SEL do not purchase this Axxess ASWC-1 unit. The presets/scan/seek buttons on the steering wheel will not function correctly. I had to return the unit for a new same unit and it still did not work. I called Crutchfield tech support which is the best that I know of and they were very helpful and recommended exchanging for a different unit. I called Axxess tech support and they were not that helpful. They blamed the unit not working because of the steering wheel buttons being bad. I had Ford replace my steering wheel control button switch and the Axxess unit still would not work. Axxess does not want to take the blame on their products. I finally called Crutchfield tech support back again and they recommended the "idatalink maestro SW" steering wheel control unit. So I did another exchange and the idatalink worked easily and flawlessly the very first time on my own hooking it up. I give idatalink 2 thumbs up for their tech support! I spent a total of about 9 hours on this entire project just to get my new JVC radio to work with the steering wheel controls. It was nothing but a huge headache as far as I'm concerned but I learned a valuable lesson and hope to save you the headaches. Do not buy the Axxess ASCW-1 for a 2008 Ford Edge SEL even though they claim it works! Crutchfield's tech support was very helpful!!

Pros: Crutchfield Tech Support

Cons: Axxess ASWC-1 is not compatible with all vehicles like they claim

Works, but not without problems

Steve from Lewisville, NC on 7/30/2016

2011 Subaru Outback
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I installed the Axxess Steering Wheel Control Interface (ASWC-1) with my new Kenwood DNX893S. The ASWC-1 allows me to use the factory radio control buttons on my steering wheel with new HU. The ASWC-1 has "auto-detect" that senses the steering wheel buttons and syncs them to the HU. It auto-detected my volume and channel up/down buttons and Mode button (toggles from radio, to SiriusXM, to Nav, etc.). My phone on-hook/off-hook buttons and Talk button (used with Bluetooth) did not auto-sync. A manual programming option exists, which I will try with these buttons. The ASWC-1 is "forgetting" its auto-detect settings from one car start to the next; the buttons work, then don't the next time the car is started. I must access the ASWC-1 inside the dash (remove trim bezel) and press its reset button to force a new auto-detect. Axxess tech support advised to ensure the ASWC-1 is directly grounded to the car chassis to eliminate changes in resistance from one car start to the next. I have it grounded with the HU, so I will separate the grounds and hope this corrects the problem. There is also a new firmware release. I will use the firmware updater utility from their website for this.

Pros: Allows me to use some of my factory steering wheel radio control buttons with my aftermarket head unit.

Cons: Not all steering wheel buttons auto-detected. Some problems with unit "forgetting" its auto-detect settings, which necessitated multiple manual resets. (May be due to incorrect grounding on my part. I will continue to troubleshoot. See "review" section for more details.)

It is fairly easy to install with the directions it comes with and the Crutchfield ones. It works very well. I did not need to update it for my '03 Ram 1500, but could see where other newer vehicles might require the new firmware. My only issue is that it doesn't work 100% of the time. There have been a couple times (very seldom) where the steering controls will not work with it. Usually they come back the next time I start the truck.

Once the product is installed and working properly, its great. I have my original steering wheel controls operating my new after-market JVC radio and iPhone (the "talk" button o the steering wheel fires up Siri on my iPhone.. neat!). I was disappointed that I had to cut into my vehicle's harness wiring to access some of the pins that were not included on the Wiring Harness that was sent to me. Other than that, it seems to working fine.

Pros: Integrates well with my steering wheel harness and JVC radio

Cons: I had to cut into my vehicle's harness wiring to access some of the pins that were not included on the Wiring Harness that was sent to me.

2005 Ford F-350
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great product, works flawlessly with my 2005 F350 and Kenwood DDX6902S. No programming/updating needed. Just splice it in and go. Not too difficult. You need to go on the company's website for installation instructions for your specific vehicle. Tip: For my vehicle's harness (Harness), the vehicle's steering wheel wire is pin #18. Unfortunately the supplied adapter (Adapter) that goes inbetween the Harness and the Kenwood does not have a wire in slot #18. Instead of cutting into the Harness, I just moved a spare Adapter pin/wire over to open Adapter slot #18 and connected the Axxess white/green wire to the relocated Adapter wire. All you need is a very small screwdriver to release and pull the red plate out of Adapter and then use the screwdriver to release the tab holding the extra pin/wire. The released wire can then be snapped into Adapter pin #18. Much easier to do than write about!

Pros: It works with very little installation effort.

Cons: Vehicle specific Instructions could be a little more detailed but they were sufficient. I didn't need the resistor but it is easy to lose when you open the packaging so be careful in case you need it. It is very small.

John from Virginia on 7/23/2016

2005 MINI Cooper

I bought this wondering "Why does this cost so much?", but I soon found that this adapter is awesome. I saves a ton of time and effort in installation and really does work great thanks to the auto-detection. The issue I had was with my newer Kenwood showing as a JVC. The documentation Crutchfield sent clearly stated that this is a known issue and they bolded the text that a 10-12K ohm resistor is needed for my radio during the programming phase. The only problem I had was that the document said the resistor was included, but I couldn't find it in the kit. A quick trip to the store sorted that out and my radio was properly detected in a snap.

Pros: Easy to install, good LED feedback, and works great.

Cons: The 10K ohm resistor either 1) wasn't in the package or 2) I lost it as I opened it (more likely). This was no fault of Crutchfield and was easily resolved.

Easy to install, but not easy to get it to work. I worked on getting it set up to work with my SUV (2004 Kia Sorento EX) off and on for a week. The Tech support from Crutchfield is great, they could not find out what the problem was, so Crutchfield sent me a whole new unit. I received the new unit reinstalled the new unit and it did the same thing as the old unit. So at this point I called AXXESS Tech support and with just a few steps the tech guy had it up and working in 5 mins. So why I'm letting you'll know this is while Crutchfield Tech Support is great, just call AXXESS Tech support with any problem with the ASWC-1 unit and you will save a lot of time.

Pros: Works great

Cons: Hard to set up and to get it to work right. I would have given it 5 stars if it was not so hard to get it to work.

Work, but I havn't gotten it to work well yet. The up volume and up track change are glitchy and done work consistently. Additionally I lost a couple of functions after taking out the stock receiver. I am thinking some of my problems are due to programming issues (when you install it you have to program it to recognize your receiver). Overall it is better than not having use of the steering wheel controls, but I feel it could be better

Pros: Give you use of the steering wheel buttons

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Based on previous success with another vehicle (VW Passat), I took the advice of Crutchfield and bought the steering wheel control module. After following all the diagrams from the head unit manufacture, Crutchfield and Axxess, I was able to connect the system. Thank goodness I did not crimp/shrink-wrap the connections, because as soon as I turned on the unit, the volume increased to the maximum. Any attempt to lower manually (on wheel or head unit) went back up to max as soon as the down button(s) were released. Checked out several boards (auto, axxess, and JVC/Kenwood), and it looks like there may be a wiring diagram problem. Decided the time to investigate was not worth it. Disconnected the adapter and successfully installed the head unit without steering wheel controls.

Pros: Instructions were thorough, if inaccurate. Easy to follow.

Cons: Wiring diagrams are not completely accurate. Volume uncontrollable.

I replaced the stock unit in my 2006 Mazda3 and wanted to keep the steering wheel controls. This box worked very well. The website had exact instructions for my car. I wired it up, turned the car and the stereo on, and this thing worked perfectly. I did spend some time on it because when I used the search buttons on the steering wheel it would search up through the frequencies instead of go from channel to channel the way I wanted it. Turns out that was an issue with the way the radio was set, not the ASWC-1. Once I set the radio correctly it works just exactly like I wanted it to. So if it doesn't seem to work you might make sure it's not the radio.

Pros: -Worked exactly the way I wanted out of the box.

Cons: -I can see where it might be a tight fit if you don't have a lot of space behind the dash. It's worth making sure you have the space for the control box to fit in.

I'm a newbie to this and the automatic setup didn't seem to work at first. Spent a lot time figuring out the flashing LEDs and trying to manually set the radio type which was wrong based on the number of LED flashes. I think part of the problem may have been the radio was on. I turned the radio off at some point and everything seemed to auto detect fine and everything now works.

Pros: Should have been easy because it does the auto detection of the radio and wiring. Seems to be working fine now.

Cons: If having the radio off at some point makes a difference, that should be in the instructions. I had to go to the website to find the explanations of the flashing LEDs. If having the radio off doesn't matter, then some other magic happened along the way and I'll just consider myself lucky at this point.

When I saw all of the wires I was a little taken back wondering exactly what I'd gotten myself into. My concerns were unfounded once I followed their instructions, went on line and found the specific instructions for my car. The details were easy to follow, they had both written instructions and pictures of each step and the installation took a lot less time than I originally expected. Most importantly, the unit works perfect and all of the steering wheel control features that I had with my factory installed bose system, work with my new Alpine radio that I installed along with this unit.

Pros: Detailed easy to read instructions specific to your vehicle Self programming once initiated. Works exactly as advertised.

Cons: Unit has a lot of extra wires for different possible installs making it look a lot more complex to install along with having a lot of unused wires to tie off.

Took some time, and a couple of sets of eyes to understand how to wire this properly. Through no fault of this product, the separate adapter harness purchased at the same time was frustratingly missing 2 wires which would make installation a breeze. This meant we needed to either splice into the factory harness of a 1 week old car, or add pins ourselves to the harness. After getting past this, control adapter was automatically detected by the head unit, and controls work as expected.

Pros: Automatically configures itself to the vehicle and head unit. Restores factory wheel function.

Cons: A bit challenging to fully understand expected wiring.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

When I finally got this installed it worked, but getting it to work took far too long. The installation instructions aren't the best. (I'm sure a more seasoned professional would disagree). Basically, the instructions say something like, Here is a picture of the wiring harness. Connect this color wire to this PIN and connect this color wire to the ground. That sounds easy. How do you want me to do that? Do I pull the wires out of the wiring harness and connect them? Do I put them back in once connected? Do I cut them? If I cut them do I connect them back together along with the new wire? Or do I just connect the new wire to... which side of the cut wire do I connect it to? Because Crutchfield technical support ROCKS I called them and they explained it to me. But once connected, the Axcess unit would not auto-detect the vehicle and head unit, as the instructions say. I called Axcess tech support and we did some troubleshooting. I was on the verge of re-wiring things when the technician realized that my particular head unit (Blaupunkt 220) had a set up menu in it that would determine the steering wheel control buttons. Whew! That was a close one because rewiring was not something I wanted to do. Once we figured that out things worked fine.

Pros:

Cons: Unclear installation instructions.

This thing works just like it should. Just make sure you download, read, and follow the instructions carefully, and understand what it takes to get your dash unit to map the buttons to its functions. That's where I got stuck, but after figuring that out, it is all working perfectly.

Pros: Easy installation, works as advertised.

Cons: Well, reading morse code blinks from LEDs isn't a lot of fun, but I can't think of a better way that would be as cost-effective.

Worked great!

2007 Honda Accord SE
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Easy to use. Truly plug and play. Steering wheel controls work with new stereo just as expected.

Pros: Easy to use Inexpensive

Cons: Had to download a separate set of instructions from their website The adaptor wiring kit was a bit messy, and I didn't even end up using it because the wiring with the dash kit I got included the necessary hook-ups for the steering wheel adaptor

Doesnt Fully work. Confirmed by Axxcess
