Great product for the price

Anonymous from College Station, TX on 2/14/2017

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was skeptical, but for the price, I could not pass them up. They worked great for what I needed. I thought they would not be sturdy, but they definitely felt substantial for plastic. I would recommend them, but understand this review is by a DIY and not a full-time stereo installer.

Pros: Simple and solid

Essential Tools

Kory from Hillsboro, OR on 2/5/2017

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

If installing radio or speakers, you need these tools. I successfully removed panels myself and didn't leave a scratch or mark. Being patient, slow, and firm with prying movements allowed me to pop out the dash panel segment I needed to remove when installing a new stereo. I thought having more than one tool in the set was overkill but in this case I needed two different shapes for the right leverage. I know I will need them again for other maintenance on my door panels, so they aren't just a one-time use thing for me.

Pros: if used right, leaves no marks on panels

Cons:

Worth the money

Mark from Raleigh, NC on 2/3/2017

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

You know i kind of regretted buying these. It's $12 and their just plastic. But on a cars these days when everything is plastic and some put on with clips that are very difficult to remove. On the stereo install it helped & I did some fog light wiring later and these came in handy again. I guess this is like most jobs sometimes having the right tool makes all the difference.

Pros: I've used them for more than just the one install

Bojo Trim panel tools review

Ed from Severn, MD on 1/4/2017

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Bought these to help remove the door panels on my 2006 Hummer H3. Tools are sturdy and helped but would have made the job easier if they were a little longer. I know my case may not be ordinary but something to consider if you have to really get under a door panel to pop it off. I ended up also using a small pry bar tool on subsequent door removals.

Pros: Good price for the set. Sturdy

Cons: Need to be a little longer.

Pros:

Cons:

Good for some applications.

Anonymous from Kutztown, PA on 1/2/2017

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These worked well to remove interior trim pieces, but they were not stiff enough to remove the door panels on my 2008 Saturn Outlook when replacing speakers. I needed something longer and stiffer, and resorted to a heavy screwdriver wrapped in tape. The door panels were tough and took a lot of force to pop off. I doubt anything not made of metal would have worked to remove them. They only other car I have removed door panels on was a 1988 Volvo Wagon. Those were much easier to remove and these tools would have worked on those panels If I had them at the time.

Pros: Versatile and non marking.

Cons: Not stiff enough for some jobs.

Useful tool, worth the money

Marc from Cumberland, RI on 1/1/2017

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I used these tools to install a JVC KW-V220BT DVD Receiver in my son's 2008 Subaru WRX. They made the job much easier. I'm not sure if these tools were redesigned since the last reviews, but I don't understand why people say they were flimsy, I didn't think so. They seemed pretty sturdy. The ends are fairly thin and I still had a little difficulty getting them in between the trim panel and the dash, but I was patient and it worked well. As with any tool, you have to use common sense.

Pros: Made the install easier as it gave me more confidence to pry at the trim panel and not think I would break it.

Cons: None I can think of.

Great tool kit

Mike from LA on 12/21/2016

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Modern car panels are full of clips and pop out bolt covers. These tools were a great kit to remove all of that stuff. The only thing is was lacking for me, was a very thin, tiny flat screw driver type tool. The tips in the kit were too thick to get under some of the small 2" square plastic bolt covers. I did it with a regular metal screw driver, but a non-mar plastic tool would have been nice

Pros:

Cons:

Quality tools, but not really required

Leonard from Prineville, OR on 12/20/2016

Nicely Made, Did the Job

Kevin from Hawthorne, CA on 9/18/2016

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I found these trim panel tools to be super useful. And, nicely made. Plus, they came included with the receiver I ordered. I definitely would have felt less secure removing the panel I needed to remove without these. Never having done an install before, it was really nice to have everything I needed included in the package. The person who helped me out (Ryan) put everything together I needed. This assistance really made the installation a lot easier. I KNOW I would have forgotten something without this help. I know that's a little off topic for this review, but it's significant. And, I wouldn't have purchased these on my own, as I wouldn't have known I needed them. These are worth purchasing too. Even if you don't get them included in a package deal, they're still a good tool.

Pros: Performed properly, Nicely made, Good price

Cons: None

Pros: Plastic reduces potential trim damage ; inexpensive.

VERY HELPFUL from Aurora, CO on 5/5/2016

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These tools are not going to break the bank. Really helpful when starting the removing process. Gets into areas without any hic-ups. Fo a beginner installer or a do it yourself kind of person. They are really handy and lend a piece of mind that a metal screwdriver is not going to break the plastic clips. The forked tool is the best at this.

Pros: Handy tools for the job Right tools for the job

Cons: Could come with a smaller one for smaller clips once the big stuff is off.

Must-have for novice installers

I just completed my first installation of an aftermarket head unit, and purchasing these tools as part of my Crutchfield package was a great recommendation by the Crutchfield Advisor. Pros: Easy to use

Cons: none

The right tool

AlexAloha from Kaneohe, HI on 4/28/2016

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have one of these tools with a screwdriver like handle and metal fork end, but I like the all plastic quality of not scratching the car's plastic trim. Seriously considered the set of 6, but found these 3 have thus far, been all I really need. One could make do with a plastic putty knife or large flat head screwdriver with a taped end, but it is much easier to do the job right with the right tool.

Pros: Well designed, plastic/nylon material less likely to damage door and panel trim on cars. Blue color makes it easy to find in a tray full of tools.

Cons: Seems to require a bit more volume to reach optimum sound. Maybe a function of location/placement, but car audio speakers should be designed with this in mind.

Id give this six stars if there was a place, This tool made it nice and easy to remove my dash face plate. I had a brake light burn out and needed to replace it. I used this tool to remove the pop pins that hold the panels in place. Normally the job was done with pliers, screw driver, whatever would work,, Id always leaves scratches behind,,, not with this tool. I never knew these existed until my crutchfields rep recommended it to me. I think every house hold and garage should have a few of these for those pryie, pokie, pushie moments lol. Oh, and for putting in car stereos too. The material seems pretty tough too, I was thinking about letting my dog try one out just to see how tough it is.. If i do, ill do an update here.

Pros: six stars

Mark P from greensboro, NC on 2/15/2016

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I had hopes for using a modern product for trim removal. I've upgraded equipment in most of my previous vehicles, (at least 14 of them). In all that time, I used a Tupperware orange peeler to wedge apart trim pieces and loosen fasteners. With my recent purchase, I thought it might help to use current tools to ensure I didn't damage anything. The tools looked fairly sturdy and flexible. The one with the angled head was too thick to slide into most gaps. The flat on with a single tip was used the most. On the four doors there was on piece of trim which was notoriously stubborn based on feedback from fellow F-150 owners. I removed it successfully on the first three doors. On the fourth, however, the tip snapped off the tool. Overall, I'm not very impressed .

Boy were these helpful. I'm glad the crutchfield representative recommended that I get these. I used these tools to install my head unit, front door speakers and rear door speakers. The 45 degree angle pry was especially helpful. Only thing I can think of is to maybe to include a 90 degree tool as well. Could've used it for more leverage and awkward angles. The 45 degree pry tool sufficed though.

Pros: Worked like a charm and weren't cheap and flimsy. 3 different tools that help with different panels and trims.

Cons: Need to include a 90 degree pry tool as well.

great quality Trim Panel tools but missing a knife edge tool

Dave from California on 12/11/2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These tools can take a beating. I torqued, twisted, bent, pushed, pulled, and overall abused the heck out them and they are more or less unscathed. Great quality. Only criticism is that there is a missing tool. You need to have a thin knife edge tool to pop up the nylon body panel insert clips high enough to get the other Trim panel tools under it. I had to make one out of some spare nylon I had lying around the garage. I took a piece of nylon and used a file to put a knife edge on it. Until I made this tool I was spending 5-10 minutes getting each nylon body panel insert clip out. After I had the knife edge home made tool it only took about 10 seconds. Pop the knife edge under the nylon clip, pop the Trim panel tool under the knife edge, pop out the nylon clip; done.

Pros: Great quality. Will last a long time.

Cons: Missing a thin knife edge tool to pop the body panel insert clips up high enough so that you can get one of the other Trim Panel tools under it.
