Our take on the Pioneer AVH-1330NEX

Like a lot of people, I expect a lot more from my car stereo than just listening to the radio or checking out a CD. If that's what you're looking for too, check out what Pioneer's AVH-1330NEX DVD receiver offers.

Pioneer AVH-1330NEX

CarPlay offers up an easy-to-use interface when your iPhone is connected.

Smartphone compatibility that rules

I've seen a lot of receivers that promise smartphone compatibility, but Pioneer car stereos consistently deliver a seamless experience. You can plug your iPhone® into this receiver and take charge of a variety of apps for navigation, music, and more from a pair of very cool interfaces. Best of all, you don't have to pick one — Pioneer's made it easy to switch quickly between the two.

  • Apple CarPlay — CarPlay is an iOS user's dream. Plug in your iPhone and you'll access a friendly iOS styled interface that lets you quickly jump into your music, podcasts, messages, streaming music and more. CarPlay's a no-brainer for me — it's simply a much safer and simpler way to use your phone in the car.

  • AppRadio Mode+ — Pioneer's AppRadio Mode+ provides additional flexibility when your iPhone is attached, letting you tap into apps like Waze for navigation, and providing easy access to some video content through AppRadioLIVE.

Intuitive, customizable interface

The AVH-1330NEX boasts a bright and crystal-clear VGA display with plenty of display customization options built in. You can set your home screen to display your favorite sources, and then switch between them with just a single touch, letting you pay more attention to the road, and less to operating your stereo.

Spotify and Pandora® control

If you're like me and use streaming services a lot, you'll appreciate how you can control your Pandora and Spotify accounts from the receiver. Just connect your iPhone via USB or Bluetooth, or pair up your Android™ with Bluetooth and you're all set. You can even create new Pandora stations on the fly just by pressing a button.

Bluetooth® wireless command

The AVH-1330NEX is ready to roll with hands-free calling with your compatible phone, plus the ability to wirelessly stream and control music from up to five different phones. Plus, with your compatible iPhone, you can take advantage of Siri Eyes Free functionality, using your voice to place calls, select music, hear notifications, add reminders — even compose and listen to text messages.

Sweet radio

If you're on the road all the time, you should consider tapping into the variety of satellite radio with an optional SiriusXM tuner. Or if you prefer checking out local radio, the built-in HD Radio™ tuner offers outstanding sound quality from participating stations.

Awesome A/V

HD Radio

The receiver's LCD screen plays DVDs and other video content in bright, clear detail when you're parked. You can keep your passengers entertained by sending video from the receiver to a rear-seat screen — that sure helps to minimize wars in the back seat. You'll be able to view video content from your iPod or IPhone with the addition of optional cables. And you can play it safe when you throw it into reverse by plugging in a rear-view camera.

iDatalink Maestro lets you keep your factory extras

This Pioneer offers compatibility you won't find in many other aftermarket radios, thanks to the iDatalink Maestro module (not included). The module lets you keep factory features in your Chrysler, Ford, GM, Honda, Toyota, Fiat, or VW vehicle that you'd otherwise lose when you install a new radio. You'll also be able to check out expanded functionality on the Pioneer's screen, including gauges, climate controls, a distance sensor, and tire pressure and temperature monitors.

If you currently use AppRadio Mode, Pioneer has found that it won't work with iOS 11. They're working on an update, so you may want to keep iOS 10 until that fix is available.

Want to keep your car's steering wheel audio controls?

In most cars, you'll need an adapter to retain those controls with this car stereo. Connect a few wires, then program the adapter for your particular car and radio, and you'll retain the convenience of your steering wheel controls. You'll see the adapters that work with your vehicle when you add this receiver to your cart.

Bluetooth note: Use of this receiver's Bluetooth features will depend upon your phone's Bluetooth capabilities. Learn more in our article explaining Bluetooth profiles.

    2012 Nissan Xterra
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I installed this in a 2012 Nissan Xterra Pro4X with the factory Rockford Fosgate system. The functionality of this unit is quite good, though it can appear a little laggy in it's responsiveness at times. That said, things work as advertised. Apple Car Play functions well and using Pioneer's App Radio app, I'm able to display Waze (for traffic navigation / avoidance) on the unit's display. That being said, while App Radio can display Waze (which is wonderful), it's not perfect. It took a little learning to figure out how the App Radio app interfaces with the unit and how to switch between carplay and app radio modes. It's one or the other. If you're using ways, you're not using carplay and the ease of integration with the music, texts, etc. It's just the price you pay. Also, I've noticed that, when using Waze, if I receive an inbound phone call, waze gets the call info over the map, though it will continue to give you audio navigation prompts. Also, when hanging up the call, waze often stays with the screen frozen at the location where you accepted the call. This requires a reboot of the app or a disconnect / reconnect of the phone. All in all, it does work, though maybe it's not perfect. It is VERY nice to be able to use waze at all though, so I'm happy enough accepting the limitations. Another issue I ran into, which I believe is common, having the tap the parking brake wire from the harness to access all config options. Instructions do

Pros: Supports WAZE (though with a bug or two) sounds great

Cons: Not the *most* intuitive interface occasionally laggy, but generally fine.

This is an exceptional radio, dvd player, and diagnostic tool. I really like the fact that when you plug the stereo into your obdII you can monitor your rpm, your intake temp, your air pressure in your tires, the battery voltage and otherwise. The function of the radio is easy to use.

Cons: Haven't figured out problem with rear view camera hookup yet.

Install was easy with tech support. Only issue I have with stereo that earned it three stars was the volume buttons are so tiny, really would have preferred a kind or at least larger buttons as this is what is used the most on the unit.

    Pros: Easy install.

    Cons: Volume buttons.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Started out ok, downhill from there. Most of the time when I plug iphone in, I get an error before it does anything else. Then, usually the up and down steering wheel controls don't work. Volume and everything else does though. Usually I have to unplug it and plug it back in a few times to make it work. This is my second unit, the first stopped working all together with CarPlay(the only thing I use). I'm tired of playing around with it to get it to work properly, Pioneer doesn't respond to inquiries apparently. Regret the purchase.

Pros: Looks nice. Good when it works right

Cons: CarPlay is a failure on this unit. Random error messages

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I really like it. It is a really nice unit. It is replacing a sub par JVC unit that didn't make the cut. The touch screen is nice and functional. It's well laid out. I wish the volume buttons were a tad bigger, but is a forgivable offense because as soon as you hit the volume, you can switch to the on screen volume buttons which are easier to use. It always finds my phone, and if I walk away from the truck while it's running, it's a snap to reconnect. The Pandora controls are awesome. BT radio listening to YouTube works well also. It will list what YouTube is playing, a nice feature. Settings are easy to change. The mic for speaker phone works flawlessly, people can actually understand me instead of what I went through with the JVC. The backup camera input is a nice feature, I feel spoiled having one now. Now my wife wants one.

The resistive touch screen leaves a little to be desired. It is not very responsive. The Apple carplay is buggy. Apps won't start from the deck but they will start when activated from the phone/ Not sure where the blame lie.. Apple or Pioneer or both. Not a bad entry level system.

    2008 Chevrolet Silverado
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado last year and decided to upgrade the stereo and speakers. I purchased from Crutchfield a Pioneer FX-H830BHS and four JBL speakers. Got it installed and sounded great. However the FX-H830BHS is a not really user friendly and I could kick myself for not getting a touch screen. So agree a year I decided to order this unit and installed it. Though not quite as good as the Uconnect system in my Grand Cherokee it is light years ahead of the FX-H830BHS. Wesley from tech support was great when I had a few questions and steered me in the right direction. He told me I didn't need the new harness and that the old one would work. He was correct! I also was told when I ordered that I would need another antenna adapter but the old one was just fine. Oh well. But my advice would be to spend the extra $$ to get the touch screen you won't be sorry!!

Pros: Easy to setup and looks and sounds great!

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This has only been in my vehicle for a week, but so far, it's been good bang for the buck. The install was easy and the unit is actually pretty lightweight. I was able to navigate through the menus without needing to reference the owner's manual, so it's decently intuitive. I also like that I was able to customize the color of the display and the button backlights (any RGB color!) to match my vehicle's interior very nicely. The quality (and adjustability) of the sound is leaps and bounds better than my factory Honda head unit. My biggest two gripes thus far deal with the connection to my phone via Bluetooth: Apple CarPlay only works when tethered, and, there is way too long of a lag when advancing through songs. When you push the button on the unit or the steering wheel, there is probably a 1-second delay between the time the button is pressed and when the unit moves forward or back one song. This is really annoying and in my mind, below standard. I have an Alpine WNE-960 in my other vehicle and response time is near immediate, so it's not a Bluetooth or "music-app-on-my-phone" issue.

    1998 Chevrolet K Series
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased this stereo for installation in a 1998 Chevrolet K1500. If you are installing this in a similar truck, keep in mind some modification IS REQUIRED! The stereo was beautifully packaged and everything was included. The harness went together easily, with the rear camera signal input running to the back of the truck (had to use extra wire) and the parking brake wire to the connector under the dash. Installation was complicated but only because this style head unit was not designed to be in a GM Truck, so I had to modify it. The features of the stereo are amazing. If you know Pioneer Stereos, this one is not hard to figure out. I had to use Pioneer's Youtube page to get more info on the cutoffs, but otherwise is easy to use. Apple CarPlay is amazing and easy to use. You can set the display ti match your dash color with an almost unlimited selection of colors, as well as custom backgrounds. I only wish the stereo had 2 things: tactile buttons for Next/Prev, and a rotary volume. Otherwise, it interfaces perfectly with the other Pioneer Equipment in my truck, including the Speakers, Mono Amp and 10" Sub. Like all Pioneer Equipment, it is the best stereo equipment I have ever owned!

Pros: Easy to Use, Simple Install, Interfaces Well with other Pioneer Equipment, Apple CarPlay

Cons: Wish It Had A Rotary Volume Control, Wish It Had Tactile Next/Prev Buttons.

This is a great radio! The CarPlay feature is awesome but even better is the Pioneer app that allows me to use Waze on the screen. The radio sounds killer. The screen is easy to read and it's really easy to navigate through all the menus and functions.

Pros: Lots of features and great sound for a good price. Install was easy. Works great with the factory steering wheel control.

Cons: You must be parked to change the dimmer setting. This would be nice to be able to adjust based on the app/screen you are using.

Works for my purposes and maybe has more than what I need. Lots of screens and functions almost too many for this old guy. But it is for my daughter we were able to connect a backup camera that takes a bit to show image. I will be calling for some tech support but tired of having the dash out so will go as is for now. I added the 8" sub and wow it sounds great even with the front two stock speakers. Can't complain at this price.

Great stereo and pretty easy to install with the accessory package that Crutchfield packaged with the unit. I did have a couple of installation questions, and Crutchfield's staff was extremely helpful with resolving them. The Wrangler required the Metra dash kit to fill the openings on each side of the unit - I wish that was not needed as I don't think it looks as "clean" as the OEM install. But that is not the fault of Pioneer or Metra, it is more of a knock on Jeep for having an odd size original stereo. I hooked up a cheap backup camera, and I gotta say I'm impressed with everything about this stereo!

Pros: Price, features, Carplay, great Crutchfield support

Cons: None that I can think of

Great unit for the price you pay. You need to physically connect iPhone for CarPlay however. Haven't added the backup camera yet which is why I bought this in the first place as my OEM unit did not support that. Overall satisfied with the product. Needless to say Crutchfield Customerservice is A+

Pros: Lowest price to get CarPlay

Cons: FM sound is a bit wavering. Not sure if it is because of unit or antenna

Pretty good item, the display system I would say 8/10 quality from today's standards. However, does the job and it's pretty quick which I like and I would recommend this for anybody looking for a good touch screen with apple car play, bluetooth, back up camera and more. I bought two so far for different cars. Thanks to crutchfield for the additional charge that comes with preset wires that made it a easy plug in play for installation which is exactly why I like Crutchfield for how simple it is.

Pros: Responsive screen bluetooth apple car play back up camera

Cons: not the best screen graphics

Quick response touchscreen; immediate CarPlay connection; immediate Bluetooth connection; very intuitive radio with custom settings to spare. Excellent for beginners or serves as a great home-base for a custom audio system. Pandora, Spotify, Nav/Maps. Price was great and Crutchfield service was literally second to none. All companies, whether online or brick & mortar should take a 101 customer service class from Crutchfield.

This Head Unit is perfect. High quality, quick response, and the Car Play features are exactly what I needed. The remote mic help the unit and allow high quality phone calls. The people I am calling can't tell I am in my diesel truck driving. The sound quality is great and the controls on the radio are intuitive. I do miss not having a volume knob, but it is not a huge issue, since the physical buttons are good for what I need. The ease of connecting my iPhone for use with Car Play is seamless. Should have done this a long time ago. The wiring kit and the pre-wiring by Crutchfield were great. One quick call to Customer Service for install question and I had a new stereo that looks like it is factory touch screen!!!!!

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Overall, first impressions, the radio is very nice and looks great. I did do the installation myself, using the prewired harness from Crutchfield. Unless you are very brave, I would recommend that. I also used the Maestro device to preserve steering wheel controls. While I ultimately got this working, it was a struggle. There are a few connections that have to be made in addition to the prewired harness (data cable, Speaker and unfortunately microphone). I had hoped that the radio would integrate with the OnStar built in microphone. This is not the case. Also, external speaker for turn signals and chimes is clumsy. Again, would have hoped it integrated with the factory speakers. Another disappointment is that CarPlay is only integrated through USB. Would have preferred Bluetooth. So, several early disappointments. But still a very nice upgrade to my 10 year old car. Gives a little more life,

Pros: Nice visual improvement to the dash.

Cons: Clumsy OEM integration. No Bluetooth option for CarPlay (USB Only).

Updating prev review! Crutch. Swapped new unit and it's obvious the 1st one was defective, the new one looks works great!! However there are some funkiness with this deck, if connected to car play and you open certain things on phone deck will change source to nothing? Shuts off what your listening to for example, also there are quite a few options or features that are aren't available, greyed out!? DIimminf settings don't work and if they do, they follow headlights which stinks cuz everyone has daytime running lights nowadays! Other than that it's great! CarPlay has ALOT to improve on!!! But for the price great deck!!

Pros: Visibly stunning! Great many options, many settings! Great price!

Cons: Considering the tech in this, white a few bugs, and limitations!

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I had high hopes for this radio looking at all of the reviews, but unfortunately it hit quite a bit short of the mark. The primary reason I bought this radio was for it's purported compatibility with Waze via Pioneers AppRadio App for the iPhone. However, it is NOT compatible with iOS11 and there is no ETA on a resolution. Had iOS11 just been released I would of been OK with this, but Pioneer should of had their hands on it over 6 months ago and a solution in place long before now. With all of that said the radio itself is impressive and does a great job. It's remaining feature set is impressive, but it's software and interface leave a LOT to be desired. Software and UI are clearly NOT Pioneer's strong suits and unfortunately leaves this unit with only 2 stars.

Cons: Poor US Poor customer support Poor timing on patches and updates

I was a bit skeptical going with this deck, after demoing different brands at local stores because it didn't have the physical knob and it seemed to have a slower response time than others, especially the Sony. I chose this model because I wanted Sirius, HD Radio, a CD, and CarPlay. After installing it in my wife's car and giving it a good spin through, all I can say is it exceeds my expectations, and it's response time isn't bad at all. The lack of a physical knob really isn't a big deal at all, and in fact, it's got a fast mute feature which is really handy (many others don't). There aren't any glare issues (big open, bright car), it's supremely customizable, looks good, and the price was great. If you're wanting the features I wanted at a lower price, you simply can't go wrong with this one.

Pros: CarPlay, HD Radio, Siri and CD for a great price.

    Cons: None

Worth the extra cost for apple carplay

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Replaced my original stereo in 04 envoy xuv. Removal was easy. Install straight forward but had to call tech support a few times and was given wrong wiring info once which prolonged the process, however Crutchfield made everything right in the end. Put in a rearview camera at the same time and it works as it should. Sound is superior to the original deck using cheap aftermarket speakers. Apple carplay is convenient but some of the functionality is a letdown. The audio playback of texts is hard to understand, especially when punctuation isn't used. Siri cuts off the time given to listen to your reply texts which means you consistently have to erase and restart your dictation. Screen brightness is a big improvement over the other double din displays I've seen. Hd radio is a joy to have. The quality of the chime module is poor and sounds like a kids toy. Keep in mind that having apple carplay requires corded connection so don't forget to run that. Map function is strange because there doesn't appear to be a way to type in an address, and siri is not great at hearing destinations but it is not that big of a deal.

Pros: Good for iPhone Map navigation is convenient Sound quality excellent for cd/dvd and radio

Cons: Glitches with navigation and text functionality

I gave it a 3stars for 2 simple reasons, only 1 usb/no hdmi. Reason 2 is that I like others am struggling with the app radio to iOS 11 adjustment. Meaning I cannot use Waze/YouTube and other apps until fixed by Apple or pioneer. It is a great value for the money, the most impressive thing so far is the voice to text with Siri, it has been 100% accurate and is very convenient. ***Also, Crutchfield gets 5 stars hands down second to none, they were super helpful choosing a unit / setup that was right for me, then the pc kept switching my bezel back to matte black and the on the final order page I forgot to switch it back to gloss and received a matte blk bezel. Anyway, within 2hrs Crutchfield had a gloss blk one on its way to me with circle talk or run around, just a "yes we can fix that for u"

Pros: CarPlay/app radio (when fixed to work with iOS 11), mic is clear and Siri works better the $1,550 units that I've had,

Cons: Am doesn't play at all (I listen to talk radio), no Waze/YouTube until iOS 11 issue is resolved

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I am a little disappointed that apple car play requires that my phone be connected via USB instead of being able to operate via Bluetooth, but that seems to be universal and not to do with this specific head unit. I did take off 1 star however because the bezel that came with the unit was connected via two plastic adapters and screws. The instructions said to use 3 screws on either side, but only 2 of the holes lined up. It seemed sturdy enough with only 2 screws on either side so I just left it that way but it still makes me a little nervous. Maybe the adapter needs to be updated?

Pros: System works great Installation difficulty comparable to other systems

Cons: Bezel doesn't have the correct hole placement for the recommended 3 screws per side to attach

Good system, everything I wanted and install was fairly easy. The functionality is all there and this can be tweaked to your liking. Car play works well on a iphone 6s, bluetooth is clear, and the mic picks up sound well too. The system moves through screens fairly quick, I wouldnt say fast but not annoying either. Overall I am happy with the system. I do want to mention, this is our second unit. The first unit kept giving us an AMP error randomly. We checked all the speaker connections for any frayed or missed wired connections. We finally called into Crutchfield for a replacement and it is now good to go.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased this 1330NEX for a second car specifically because of the Apple CarPlay feature. I have 4200NEX in my other car, and the CarPlay feature had me sold. Sonically, the 1330 is every bit as good as the 4200. The 1330 made the stock speakers in the Mazda 5 come to life and the subwoofer output for the separate subwoofer I had in the car (also purchased from Crutchfield) works perfectly integrated into the radio controls. Even though Crutchfield didn't recommend using the Maestro RR unit to integrate the steering wheel controls, I decided to go that route since that combination worked so well in my other Mazda. I have all the steering wheel controls, I can answer the phone with the steering wheel controls and as an added bonus, I also can view various car functions through the OBDII port (water temp, exhaust temp, timing, etc). I highly recommend this radio if you are looking for a cost effective way to improve your car system and add CarPlay at the same time.

Pros: Apple CarPlay. HD Radio. SiriusXM. Flexible audio outputs. Plenty of power. Nice large beautiful touchscreen.

Cons: no matter how I try, I can't seem to load a custom picture for the display background. I minor issue for sure. But it baffles me why since I did a custom background picture on my other Pioneer unit.

Drew from Brooklyn, NY on 10/13/2017

    2005 Toyota Tundra
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is a great unit. I compared it side by side in my truck with the more expensive Pioneer 4200 and I preferred this one by far. The fact that it has intelligently designed and placed real buttons is worth it to me alone. It has a dedicated back up camera button, which is great (the 4200 requires digging through a variety of menus) and all the buttons are easy to find without looking at them. I found myself having to look at the 4200 constantly to find buttons and it made me feel unsafe driving. Not sure why the car stereo world seems to overlook well thought out physical interface buttons and knobs. There are also a number of well thought out features on the 1330 that the 4200 doesn't have (at least that I couldn't find on the 4200) such as button illumination brightness settings. I didn't find the smaller screen size to be a problem (it's still quite large), and I actually personally prefer it as I don't like being blinded by a huge screen all the time. It also seems to start up faster than the 4200. I just wish the unit had a detachable face, as that is the main thing the 4200 has that this unit does not. Earlier versions of press and pre sale descriptions said the 1330 had a detachable face and it definitely does not. This is the lower end of the price scale for the AVH line and I think its completely worth every penny.

Pros: buttons. buttons. buttons. on the DRIVERS SIDE. dedicated back up cam button. streamlined, simple and affordable.

Cons: Wish it had a detachable face. Wish all of the Pioneer units had a cleaner look with less text / logos on the bezel.

I really love this deck but it a couple quirks that I find annoying. The deck is supper easy to operate and apple car play is awesome! One of the issues I have with this deck is when you start the car and you are wanting to continue streaming music from your Bluetooth device it does start playing automatically. It will show the device is connect and will appear to play but no sound is coming out. I have to change I put back to Bluetooth device (which it the original setting) and it will play. Another issue is that even with the iPhone volume turned up the volume that streams is much quieter that I would expect. If I plug it into car play mode it will be super loud and have to turn the volume down. Other than those minor quirks I love this deck

This model has HD Radio whereas the Sony didn't, easy choice. Installed Timloon Car 5V 2.1A USB Interface Socket Charger and USB Audio input Socket use for TOYOTA into a switch blank. Sometimes the Apple Carplay does not connect using the apple usb cable that came with the phone. The screen just freezes or is extremely slow or Carplay doesn't load. Changing to some aftermarket usb cable to phone worked, which is weird as Apple says to only use Apple cable. Still not 100%. I may have to change the USB interface socket but it came prewired so I'll have to cut it and somehow attach the USB cable that came with this radio. Unit sounds great, very clear even with factory speakers. The mic is placed above the steering column and sounds crystal clear whereas I installed another Pioneer in my Tacoma on the driver pillar and I can hear road noise, maybe it needs adjusting. Also installed the AUTO-VOX Cam 6 Rear Reverse Backup Camera License Plate Parking Rearview System. Works great. Axxess ASWC-1 Steering Wheel Control Adapter controls work nice too although when I first installed it I plugged it in the AUX of unit but had to reset it as you need to plug it into W/R. Would have been nice if there was mention of the reset button somewhere in instructions and it's not labeled anywhere. You have to push something (like a paper clip) into the Axxes to reset it. I had to google it and read it on some forum. After I reset it and turned on the unit it found my controls setting

Pros: Sound, Mic, Siri, Texting, Backup Cam, HD Radio.

Cons: Wired Carplay is a problem with Apple Lighting USB. Wireless would eliminate stupid Apple rules.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This radio is a perfect for for older cars/suvs etc., as well for newer vehicles (Maesro iDATALINK ready for newer cars) I've purchased 3 of these units .. 2001 Odyssey, 2002 Odyssey & 2007 Accord sedan. All installed well/fabulous fit, using the included Metra mounting kits. Bright Hi-Res Screen really "pops", and is dimmable for night driving (Manually toggle, as well as AUTO if supported by you car make/model) The iPhone Bluetooth (in vehicle speakerphone interface) performs 2nd to none, as well as car play .. seamless interface with Siri for hands free voice texting - nice touch .. but takes a little practice) Built-In HD radio - very nice. SiriusXM add-on tuner works perfectly (it was a considerable amount extra work installing the antenna, but that goes for all aftermarket SXM installs). Both HD radio and SiriusXM have thumbnail graphics (Pic of artist, album covers, etc., - again, nice touch) Steering Wheel Controls add-on "black box" (Access WXWC-1) works extremely well, but make sure you get "all" the instructions, as those on Access's website seem incomplete.

Pros: Perfect radio for Older vehicles (as well as newer ones)

Cons: 1) SXM is not on the home screen, you have to select AV to access it. 2) The Dimming toggle (Day/Night) should be an option to the main screen. 3) The BSM can be easily accidentally pressed, and you'll wipe out your presets - it should have an "are you sure" Y/N option.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

First time I have ever used Crutchfield and my experience was 5 stars for their service. I received "on the fly" instructions on my iPad (next to me in car seat) when I had specific wire questions. I installed this radio in a 2015 Subaru Forester (Touring 2.5i) and found it to be perfect solution from options available relative to price point. The 440 watt Harmon Kardon OEM speakers and amp work well together with this radio to provide improved sound. Note: you do not need to by another amp as you'll be connecting the 1330NEX to existing Harmon Kardon amp in the Subaru (2 blue wires connect). What I wanted: Pioneer , Carplay ,HD radio (included), auto EQ using pioneer mic, expandable option to ad navigation/Sirius module later (add'l cost, not included, just the ports provided on back of radio), and minimum 6.5" screen. iPhone connection via UBS takes about 5 seconds and CarPlay works flawless. What I didn't want: paying for extras I didn't need in higher end Pioneer modules. Performance: very good menu performance and once I used the auto EQ using Pioneer's mic to balance the sound HUGE difference . Worth the extra money to get enhanced sound .(note have used this for indoor sound and 2 cars and it DOES make a difference) Antenna: factory antenna will connect to this unit UBS connector suggested: DO NOT BUY...this chord will patch Pioneer ->Subaru UBS ->center console. INSTEAD, 1330NEX provided chord.

Pros: Looks great, good sound, menu functions perform very well, love the CarPlay, Spotify is awesome on this unit...

Cons: Had to cut/modify 3/8" the provided trim ring to ensure flush mount to dash. If you don't want flush mount then radio will be recessed ..

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Pretty decent HU. Installed this in our Jeep JKU because the stock 130 unit was garbage and we wanted a backup camera. Works well, but the UI is slow. Even in comparison to other factory units. There's an annoyingly large amount of lag when changing screens. Not enough to make me want to return it, but just enough to bother you. The UI is OK, but it still takes several presses too much to do some things. I don't think they really thought the UI through too much. Carplay works well, and the mic quality is impressive compared to the old AVIC I used to have. Built in HD-Radio is a nice feature.

My son and I installed this in his 2005 F150 along with 4 Alpine speakers. The sound is amazing compared to the factory unit and OEM speakers. I like all of the EQ options you have, as well as custom EQ settings. The Apple CarPlay is great! We are able to pair multiple phones with Bluetooth which is convenient. We installed the interface so the steering wheel controls work with the head unit. Completely satisfied and Crutchfield was great with their tech line. This was the first time we had installed a radio and speakers and it was not bad at all. I highly recommend this radio!

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I installed this in my 2005 Pontiac GTO. The factory radio does not have phone integration and the sound was marginal. The Pioneer is a VAST improvement over stock, even with the stock speakers. I now have built in Bluetooth, HD Radio, Apply Car Play and a modern sound system. I also installed the steering wheel controller and was able to retain the majority of the controls.

Pros: Sound quality, features - bluetooth, HD Radio, Car Play, idatalink, camera, etc.

Cons: Not related to the radio but I am still trying to map the steering wheel controls for CD/iPod to do track selection. This may be a programming issue that I will continue to research.

HD Radio: The Pioneer AVH-1330NEX's built-in HD Radio tuner lets you listen to the radio with the same fidelity as your digital music. HD Radio features high quality audio, FM multi-casting, and data services. With HD Radio, your FM stations offer near CD-quality sound, AM stations provide FM-like sound, and there is crystal-clear reception with no audio distortion. Best of all, HD Radio is 100% subscription free. The unit's tuner also supports analog AM/FM broadcasts.

    • Supertuner IIID: The Supertuner IIID features Feed Forward Control, which avoids multi-path interference. This pre-detection of interference enables quick filter control and results in less distortion. In addition, the Supertuner IIID creates enhanced stereo during multi-path interference, unlike conventional tuners that collapse to mono. Digital processing reduces distortion, and improves Signal-to-Noise Ratio and stereo separation. Advanced analog technology improves signal processing sensitivity.
    • Station Text/Album Art + RDS: AM/FM digital stations can offer text and data such as artist names and song titles. The head unit also supports Album Art from select HD Radio stations. For analog FM stations, the Radio Data System (RDS) feature displays radio broadcast information such as song/artist information when listening to compatible RDS FM stations.
    • Multicasting: In addition to conventional broadcasts, with HD Radio broadcasting it is possible to choose from up to 3 multicast programs (HD1 to HD3, and analog). There are also data programs for each program.
    • Reception Blending: If a digital broadcast reception condition gets poor, this unit automatically switches to the analog broadcast of the same frequency level. If this function is set to "On", the tuner switches between digital broadcast and analog broadcast automatically. If this function is 'Off', reception will be conducted within a digital broadcast.
    • BSM (Best Stations Memory): The BSM (Best Stations Memory) function lets you automatically store the six strongest analog or HD stations under preset buttons 1-6 of the currently tuned band. The tuner has 3 FM banks and 1 AM bank. You can store 6 presets for each bank giving you a total of 18 FM presets and 6 AM presets.
    • Local Tuning: Local seek tuning lets you tune in only those radio stations with sufficiently strong signals for good reception. There are 4 levels of sensitivity for FM and two levels for AM. The higher settings allow reception of only the strongest stations, while lower settings let you receive progressively weaker stations.

Note: HD Radio is the system for digital AM and FM broadcasting in the U.S. More than 2,000 radio stations are broadcasting their primary signals in digital HD Radio technology, as a free service. Go to www.hdradio.com to check for HD Radio stations in your area.

    • Source Level Adjustment (SLA): This function lets you adjust the volume level of each source to prevent radical changes in volume when switching between sources. Settings are based on the unit's FM volume level, which remains unchanged. Each source can be independently adjusted from -4 dB to +4 dB.
    • Auto Level Control (ALC): This function automatically corrects the audio level difference between the music files and/or the sources.

Rear Speaker Setup: The rear speaker outputs can be set to provide full range output with full fading capability, or they can be set to provide non-fading subwoofer (low-pass) output. When the rear speaker outputs are set to subwoofer mode, the rear preamp outputs also switch from full range to subwoofer outputs. When set for subwoofer operation, you can connect the rear speaker leads directly to two small 4-ohm passive subwoofers or a dual voice coil sub with 4-ohm voice coils. If you prefer to use a single 2-ohm subwoofer, you can connect the woofer to one set of speaker leads, leaving the other set of rear leads disconnected. The maximum output provided when a 2-ohm load is connected to one set of leads is 70 watts.

    28 questions already asked

To your parking brake contact [ Greg  Mar 29, 2018 ]
You need to find the parking brake connection for your vehicle, it should be in your instructions or you can normally find it online. The receiver needs to know you are parked with the brake on for some of the functions to work, like watching a dvd. [ Bryan  Mar 14, 2018 ]
Wish I could help.I had mine professionally installed. It was well worth the $75 to me. [ Gary  Mar 14, 2018 ]
I believe if you purchase the Maestro module in addition to this receiver, you would be able to use your built in Sirius tuner. However, that may depend on the module you pick and the make/model of your vehicle. I know we could use the built in Sirius tuner from a 2008 Ford Edge when using the Maestro. [ Scott  Feb 04, 2018 ]
No usb port in front, USB is accessed using cable to rear usb port. [ Danny  Jan 28, 2018 ]
According to what I have read the only USB port for the AVH-1330NEX is on the rear of the unit. One USB cable extension comes with the receiver. You have to find a way to place the cable through the dashboard or the glove compartment (if you do not mind leaving your cell inside it). [ JOSE ANTONIO  Jan 27, 2018 ]
The unit comes with a USB cable. You connect the cable to the USB port at the back of the unit and feed to front. [ Reza  Jan 27, 2018 ]
No, it comes with a USB extension cable you run to a convenient location. [ Brad  Jan 27, 2018 ]
No USB port on front panel, It comes with a USB cable thats plug in on the back. [ Michael  Jan 27, 2018 ]
There is not a usb in front but a long female usb cord is supplied and you have to get creative as to where you want it to exit your dash or center console. [ Michael  Jan 27, 2018 ]
There is not. There's a USB port on the back that has to be run through the dash somewhere with a cord. [ Andrew  Jan 27, 2018 ]

Yes, as long as there is power to the radio. So, in a standard installation, it won't charge the phone when the key is off, but it will as long as the key is turned on. [ Robert  Jan 10, 2018 ]
Yes it does. I got this stereo for my daughters car so she could have hands free usage. It's awesome. Highly recommend this unit. [ BARRY  Jan 10, 2018 ]

I have not tried to display a photo or use the DVD option. Sorry I am unable to answer this for you. [ Mark  Jan 08, 2018 ]
No, the unit does not have navigation. It can display the map from your smartphone when the smart phone is plugged into the unit through the USB cord. I have an iPhone and when the unit is plugged into my iPhone 6s, and my iPhone 8, the iPhone maps will display on the unit. I also have the "Waze" app on my iPhone. This unit will also display the Waze map when it is plugged into my iPhone. [ Harley  Jan 03, 2018 ]
Yes & No The unit doesn't have it as a preinstalled feature But when you use car play The navigation on your phone comes up on the head units screen [ Greg  Dec 29, 2017 ]
No internal navigation. One can hook up phone thru usb and use Apple car play and google maps from phone. [ Henry  Dec 29, 2017 ]
    I have iOS 11.2.1 on my iPhone 6 and it is supported. [ Joe E.  Jan 01, 2018 ]
    I am using my iPhone X with 11.2.1 successfully. [ Kevin  Dec 30, 2017 ]
Yes, I am using an iPhone X with the latest iOS installed. [ Scott  Dec 30, 2017 ]
If you are not using Apple CarPlay, go to Settings>Maps>Driving & Navigation, and set it to Loud Volume. If you are using Apple CarPlay, the above steps may help, but when you adjust the volume, use the touch screen on the Pioneer to raise the "Navigation" volume. For my vehicle and settings, I find 25 is good enough. [ Pete G.  Dec 04, 2017 ]
    Absolutely. [ Richard  Dec 03, 2017 ]
    Yes [ Thomas  Dec 02, 2017 ]

Yes it has both [ Joel  Dec 02, 2017 ]
Can't answer, but PDF instructions are online. [ jpadgett  Nov 10, 2017 ]
No, USB hubs cannot be used. I tried a couple different hubs first (with no luck), and then found on page 53 of the manual: "Connection via a USB hub is not possible." [ Egggg  Mar 14, 2018 ]
I honestly do not believe it will find more than one USB Device, rendering a USB Hub useless. [ Pete G.  Dec 04, 2017 ]
    Not sure. Haven't tried to connect a hub. [ Roy  Nov 07, 2017 ]
You will want to contact an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat to discuss compatibility with your factory system. They will be able to pull up your vehicle and see if this will integrate. If it does not, then they will also be able to discuss other options with you. [ Krissy  Oct 19, 2017 ]  Staff
Hi. Nice reaching out to other Crutchfield customers. Unfortunately I have not had the time to explore everything that this unit offers. I would imagine if you get a splitter to plug into the ox cord that would answer your question. Best of luck to you. [ peter  Oct 18, 2017 ]
Unfortunately not because there is only one USB port and it is required for Apple CarPlay. However you could connect your iPod via the USB port for music and your phone via Bluetooth (for calls and audio navigation, but not using the CarPlay interface.) [ Christopher  Oct 18, 2017 ]
This works great with iPhone [ Bing  Oct 17, 2017 ]
I don't believe so. This unit only has one USB port, so that limits things. You can connect your iPhone via Bluetooth, but the CarPlay functionality goes away. All you will be left with is your phone's audio output and phone calls. [ Steven  Oct 17, 2017 ]
Not by USB since there is only one USB port and it is needed for carplay. There is an aux input, however I have not tried it. [ JohnK  Oct 17, 2017 ]
No apps outside of the preloaded ones show up on the screen. [ Thomas  Oct 07, 2017 ]
unfortunately, the uber app does not show up on the screen. [ Roderick  Oct 07, 2017 ]
No. If you go to Apple's website, you can see the handful of apps that work with CarPlay. It is apple .com / ios / carplay (Had to break it up like this due to Crutchfield's answer limitation.) [ Pete G.  Oct 07, 2017 ]
No, only what is displayed in the photos on the site. Pretty much Apple standard apps. Good system though. [ Stephen  Oct 07, 2017 ]

It would depend on the rear video system. To output video, you'd have to connect it to the video out on the rear of the unit. And I am sure it works with Android, but does not have Android Auto. [ Pete G.  Oct 07, 2017 ]
In short no as the microphone is part of a wiring harness. Great question and I asked the same thing "can I use existing microphone in a Subaru Forester?" I didn't have on Onstar and it sounds like your car is equipped and perhaps newer. Since you have Onstar and sounds like you desire to retain service I suggest it is an added layer of complexity in terms of a wiring harness connection. I did use the provided microphone supplied with the 1330NEX and it was easy to run and install. Sound works great and responsive. BTW- pay the $20and get the microphone to calibrate the sound in your car. I have done this with two Pioneer radios in two separate cars and it is VERY effective and a sound changer. Mark [ Buffaloe  Oct 04, 2017 ]
I would assume that you can as long as it has the same connector. [ james  Oct 04, 2017 ]
I would assume that you can given it has the same connector. [ james  Oct 04, 2017 ]
Yes, CarPlay does allow for Apple maps to run. [ Roy  Oct 03, 2017 ]
Yes. You can also use WAZE, but the WAZE integration works correctly sometimes, but usually has problems and does not work correctly. The Apple maps works flawlessly every time. Waze is my preferred travel app, so I hope they figure the WAZE app out. [ Harley  Oct 01, 2017 ]
Yes, apple maps can be used with CarPlay. [ Brad  Sep 30, 2017 ]
Yes it works very well with Apple maps. You can see the map on your screen and the audio through your system. The audio for maps can be set independently from what you are listening to. The audio ducts down to allow for any verbal instructions from Maps. It works far better with Maps than Waze. I believe it only allow audio form Waze. At lease that's what I understand from the manual and that matches my own experience. I really y love this system. It brings my 1987 Camry back to the future. [ Gary  Sep 30, 2017 ]
Yes it does when the iPhone is connected via the lightning to USB cable into the radio. [ Chris  Sep 30, 2017 ]
Yes, when connected on car play you can just hit the app and goes to the Pioneer's screen [ Dennis  Sep 30, 2017 ]
Yes it does. The map that is on your Apple phone will display on the radio screen. [ Gregory  Sep 30, 2017 ]
Yes. Apple maps and other Apple app will work seamlessly. Apple car play is awesome. [ Brian  Sep 30, 2017 ]
It uses the apple maps app And this time it doesn't support Waze or other navigation apps [ Greg  Sep 30, 2017 ]

I have it installed in a '97 Camry and it rocks. As far as CarPlay goes pg 111 of the user manual (which can be downloaded ) explains that the USB connection is necessary for CarPlay. The Bluetooth connection will now only allow audio while the device is connected via the USB cable. A car with built in CarPlay may work differently. [ Gary  Aug 16, 2017 ]
    No it won't work unfortunately [ Christopher  Jan 16, 2018 ]
No. Apple's CarPlay does not support any video streaming applications. [ Ryan  Aug 16, 2017 ]  Staff
    As far as I understand, yes. [ Pete G.  Dec 04, 2017 ]
    Yes [ Thomas  Dec 02, 2017 ]
It will recognize more than one bluetooth device at the same time but only play from one. It recognizes my iphone for music and phone and also recognizes my wife's samsung edge... but only can decipher and or play one, at a time. [ Tom  Aug 19, 2017 ]
Yes. Tap the gear icon and then the speaker, and then go to Fade/Balance. [ Pete G.  Dec 04, 2017 ]
It has amazing fade, balance controls. There are presets that are preprogrammed for different listening experiences. It will adjust for where you select as your listening position in the car. All can be done live. Combine it with total EQ control and ( if you have high end speakers) it sounds amazing. [ Gary  Sep 30, 2017 ]
Yes, you can from any source, there is also a crossfade to adjust the front and back speakers accordingly. [ Kenny  Aug 10, 2017 ]
Thanks for your question. If I understand correctly you are asking about the microphone. There is not one listed in "Accessories" because the unit comes with a microphone already. You'll see everything that comes with the unit in the "What's in the Box" section: Microphone w/ visor-bracket (attached 13' cable terminated by a right-angled 2.5mm connector). Hope this information helps. [ Kenny  Aug 07, 2017 ]  Staff
