Wireless listening has never been easier

Pioneer is making it easier than ever to enjoy music wirelessly. Their A1 Wi-Fi speaker provides multiple options for getting music from different devices to this compact two-way speaker for full, rich sound. And you'll enjoy the sonic benefits that Wi-Fi streaming provides over Bluetooth, for more clear, detailed sound.

Pioneer A1 Wi-Fi speaker with AirPlay

The A1 speaker can stream music from an iPhone or iPad even without a Wi-Fi connection.

Lots of options for streaming music

Are you an Apple fanatic with an iPhone®, iPod touch® or iPad®? Use AirPlay to stream your favorite tunes directly from these devices to the A1. Or are you a PC loyalist with a networked hard drive packed with thousands of songs? The A1 is DLNA-compatible, so your entire collection is just a swipe away from pouring out of this potent little speaker. Android™ users can even stream music from HTC One smartphones. The A1 also supports Pandora® and vTuner® Internet radio, so you can discover even more artists and genres beyond your personal music library.

No Wi-Fi? No problem, with Wireless Direct

So what about that room with no Wi-Fi reception? Thanks to Pioneer's exclusive Wireless Direct, the A1 can interact wirelessly with your Apple device for music streaming independent of your home network. This allows for even more set-up flexibility in your home, so you can enjoy the A1's big sound beyond the reaches of your Wi-Fi signal.

Listen with or without wires

In addition to its numerous streaming options, the A1 is equipped with USB and miniplug inputs for wired connection to your portable devices. It will even charge your iPhone via USB as you listen. There's also an Ethernet jack, so you can connect the A1 to your router for the consistent performance that comes with a wired connection. Either way, the sleek A1 is a clean and compact way to add music to any room.

Control it with a smartphone remote

The A1 comes with a remote. But if you're playing music from a smartphone, you'll probably want to control the A1 with that same device. Just download Pioneer's free ControlApp for Apple and Android, and your smartphone will handle all the A1's functions just as easily as it streams your music.

Pioneer A1

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Was difficult to setup (wirelessly connect to my ITunes via AirPort network). Once this was figured out, it has worked well and sounds great.

Pros: Sound, price, appearance

Cons: Difficult to set up

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is a good product with a couple of standout features. Built-in Pandora and vTuner (mine required downloading and installing new firmware) are among the best features. Can be used with either Android or IOS. Nice, room-filling sound. Can play at high volume without noticeable distortion. Very good build quality. While sound is pleasant, it is a bit boomy and could use more high frequency sparkle. Connectivity was a bit iffy for me, but that could just be a function of distance from my router and structural obstacles. Wireless remote is virtually useless for me -- I have the speaker placed on a high shelf and the remote won't work at all from a lower angle. I wish the front panel buttons were physical buttons and not touch controllers because if the speaker gets knocked offline by a power failure, it is difficult to find the capacitive controller to put it back in standby mode since I am reaching up. But these minor quibbles aside, I think the Pioneer A1 is an excellent value for the money, and I am enjoying it. No other DLNA/Airplay speaker delivers the same feature set (love Pandora and vTuner) at this price. Recommended.

Pros: Pandora and vTuner, good control apps in both IOS and Android, pleasing sound, high volume without noticeable distortion, nice price, better feature set than others at this price point.

Cons: Could use more brightness in treble, imperfect connectivity, touch controllers are more high-tech and aesthetically pleasing but harder to use in practice, IR is useless, but that is no biggie since IOS/Android app controllers are needed to use Pandora and vTuner anyway.

Wireless Pioneer A1

Anthony F from Cleveland OH on 8/29/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased this wireless speaker to be able to play music outside of my home. It was very easy to setup the speaker and play music. I didn't know it also comes in a battery model, A3. Had I know that it came in that mode, I would have purchased that version. I've had it operating 100 feet or so from computer and had no problem with wireless operation.

Pros: Player has nice deep sound and far range, Once it has linked to your computer, it will automatically power up when you start playing music, and also have the setting set to the wireless speaker. Appears to have a durable finish, and is light weight.

Cons: Make sure your computer and iTunes is current enough for AirPlay. I had to purchase Mac software to upgrade my computer and iTunes to accommodate the speaker. The printed letters and controls on the speaker could be a bolder color as it isn't easy to read them.

Glitchy set up

Dallas from Dallas on 7/21/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Concept and pricing is great. I bought three of these for my retail location. Had to return them though because I could not get them to work at my work wireless network. Went through the whole process and the unit acted like it was connected but would not show up on AirPlay list. Tried it at home and using same procedures got it to work.

Pros: Price, sound quality.

Cons: Connection wouldn't work at home.

Simple and easy

Delioninsyd from Los Angeles on 7/8/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

After reading a number of reviews I decided to pull the trigger on this unit. Overall I have been pretty satisfied with the purchase. The sound is good but not life changing and the set up is easy once you figure it out. The speaker produces a lot of bass so don't expect the clarity of a more expensive unit. The worst part of the device is the limited selection of listening options available. Pandora and iTunes is fine but what about all the other services out there.

Pros: Great price and good sound

Cons: Limited listening options

Great value

jackK from Mount Juliet, TN on 5/26/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Have been looking for an AirPlay enabled speaker for some time to use on my patio. Decided on the Pioneer based on reviews and sale price with Crutchfield. Set-up was a little difficult due to the complex instructions. A little patience and I was successful. Using full feature set allowing iPhone control, Pandora and internet radio requires downloading a firmware update and then another set-up. Once set-up, unit works great and provides control through iTunes. Sound is fine for an outside speaker. A little base heavy, but for my use on the patio I am satisfied.

Pros: Automatic shutdown and start up after set-up is complete. Small, black profile. AirPlay works great. No drop outs.

Cons: Sound a little bass heavy.

Overview: The Pioneer A1 is a compact and versatile wireless speaker featuring WiFi, AirPlay, DLNA, and HTC Connect technology. The Pioneer A1 also features a USB port for iPod direct connection and a 3.5mm auxiliary input for connecting almost any portable audio source with a headphone output. The unit comes supplied with a wireless (IR) remote control for added convenience. You can connect multiple Pioneer A1 systems to your home network for music throughout your home.

Wireless Direct doesn't have an internet connection, so you cannot access the internet.

Note: Wireless Direct should be used only as a temporary connection under conditions where a normal router cannot be used. This connection is not encoded, so the music stream and music metadata will not be encrypted. Streaming of copy-protected audio content is not supported.

Customer Q&A

1 question already asked

yes it is possible. You would need to purchase a software update for your iMac., I think it cost $20 from Apple. After that you will be able to upgrade the iTunes on your computer to be able to run Airplay. I have to reveal that it didn't work immediately after upgrading the iTunes. Maybe a week later iTunes asked if I wanted to upgrade to a new version of iTunes. After that update it worked. [ ANTHONY  Dec 23, 2013 ]
The instructions indicate that this can be done. I have not tried it since I connect via AirPlay. AirPlay works well. I have the unit outside on my patio and it works very well. Sound is very clear with very good bass response. [ JACK  Dec 23, 2013 ]
