Not what I expected

Ray from California on 11/3/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Installation was a bit harder than I expected. Instructions indicated I had to connect to 12V power (I think)...and I didn't know how to splice that line into my existing wiring system. Also, I was instructed to run a wire to ground it to the frame...but I felt that since I didn't understand how to power it, I didn't even bother to try to ground it. After reading other reviews on installation, I determined what it offered, wasn't what I was looking for. I ended up returning it.

Pros: Unknown

Cons: Wiring installation seemed a bit daunting, and I wasn't prepared to handle it. Reviews indicate it only displays a limited number of features and not full fledged phone display/control

Don't buy this

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Pioneer and Mirror have failed miserably. They falsely advertise the Pioneer 1600 DVD head unit works with android; all you need to do is buy the Mirror link adaptor. The problem is there is no working ap for android, and the head unit keeps wanting a usb update that doesn't exist. The Crutchfield tech support did everything they could to help resolve the problem. However, when I called Pioneer, they insisted that what I was reading on the head unit wasn't really there, and the system is fine. There are hundreds of reviews that say Drive Link (the Mirror Link app) doesn't work, but I gave it a try. It doesn't. Pioneer is aware and will not do anything about it.. Don't buy this unless you want an expensive paper weight.

Pros: The Crutchfield team was great.

Cons: It doesn't work. Even with professional installation it's garbage.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Got this after being told by the salesperson that I NEEDED to have it after purchasing the Pioneer 2600bt. The adaptor would cause my amplifiers to turn on when the head unit was off and the key was in the acc or on position. All my connections were correct and flawless . The problem seem to be when connecting the cable into the GPS port of the head unit . I do not know if this is a function of the mirrorlink adaptor being connected to the GPS port . I called tech support but some of the staff don't seem to have good knowledge of this product or ALL it's functions . Having my amps on while the radio is off when I'm driving does not sit well with me. I could have installed a toggle switch to the adaptor 12v wire to combat this issue after some thinking but chose not to. I even had one off the guys from tech support tell me it's suppose to do that. I even thought that my radio was defective but after disconnecting the adaptor, my amps stayed off until I turn my radio on. I am glad I found this issue out because I was going to return everything . I also found that my galaxy s4 combined with the adaptor had a few issues. I think there IS a place for this Mirrorlink technology but there are so hiccups that need to be addressed. My cell works fine using the bluetooth with the radio and I really don't need the adaptor like they said. It's just not worth the money until they get the kinks out.

Pros: Very easy to install and nice long wires to install almost anywhere in the front of your vehicle .

Cons: Causes amps to turn on or stay on when radio is off. Not really as smooth with the samsung galaxy s4 and for the limitations with apps use, it's not really worth the money and headache.

Not very useful product

ScottH from Twin Cities, MN on 1/15/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Because you cannot listen to the radio, Pandora, etc while using this product, it is not very useful for me. I figured I could do both, but it is one or the other. Very frustrating. The three parts of the app are mapping, music and phone. Phone support and music support are already part of the head unit, so not very useful in Mirror Link. As to mapping, seems to me like a dumbed down version of Google maps. I have a Garmin GPS, so I don't really need the navigation. I had hoped to have the Google traffic map on my radio screen during rush hour, but if that is even possible, I could not listen to my head unit while doing so. I have since returned the Mirror Link to Crutchfield with their amazing satisfaction guarantee. Thank you Crutchfield!

Pros: Easy to connect to car wiring and the app setup is fairly easy, however I did need to call Crutchfield for assistance. BTW, Crutchfield was amazing and very knowledgeable.

Cons: Cannot listen to Pandora, radio (etc.) when Mirror Link is being used. Phone and music support already part of the radio and mapping is limited and a rather frustrating interface.

Pros: you wont need anything else to put it in and you can do it your self
