Pioneer's sharp-looking GM-D9601 mono amplifier can send up to 1200 watts RMS to your sub setup, for powerful bass that'll get you and your car rockin'. Highly efficient Class D technology keeps this powerful amp running as cool as it looks, and allows for a compact chassis that fits in a lot of out-of-the-way spaces. And this little workhorse can handle a 1-ohm load without breaking a sweat, so you never have to worry about impedance matching when you add subs to your system down the road.
If your car stereo doesn't have RCA outputs, you can use the speaker-level inputs to hook this amp into your system — the amplifier switches its input mode automatically when it detects the high-level signal. The amp's got a low-pass filter that lets you quickly sharpen and focus the bass to suit your car's interior, and also includes a wired remote boost that lets you control the bass from the front seat.

This amp is perfect for the application I love it
Pros: Easy installation smooth and sleek, like possi track just works!
Very nice product, works perfect with my new stereo.
Amazing amp. Great value with great price
Bought one yesterday for my DC Audio level 4 10" in ported box. Under powered I know, hopefully it will be a good temporary until I get all my highs dialed in. 2008 Volkswagen R32
Amazing mono amp for the price. Currently driving two Alpine Type R 10s wired up for 2 ohms total. Wish I could have gone 1 ohm overall to get the max out of the subs, but I can't complain with what I've got so far. Haven't had a single issue over the last 3 months with it. Even convinced me that I can safely stray from Alpine amplifiers. Would definitely get one again and will easily recommend to anyone.
Pros: Power, efficiency, size, style, and preamp in and out
Cons: Fitting 0/1 gauge wire near impossible
Excellent amp! Can take a beating powering both my 12" Pioneer TS-W309D4s without "breaking a sweat" and is ready to go for the next song.
Pros: Powerful output Great styling Easy to adjust Dual speaker outputs for easier wiring
Cons: Size Mounting tabs seem a little bit flimsy for the weight of the amp
Just installed this amp and DANG IS THIS AMP STRONG! Wiring options for this amp raises the value of this amp, with the STABLE ability to run from 4 ohms all the way down to 1 ohm. Currently running this amp to power 2 12" Alpine Type-R's wired at 2 ohms. Many will say that I'm still under powering my subs but 400w to each sub, for a total of 800w RMS, efficiently and cleanly! Upgraded from an Alpine Mrp-M650 which was only pushing 600w RMS. Fairly small in size considering it's power rating, clean sleek finish, and the bass boost knob is another awesome feature! I don't think there is another amp available that will this much BANG for the buck.
Pros: Versatility of ohm stability. POWER! Efficient clean power! Self protection from bass junkies like myself, hahaha. Price, cannot beat the BANG for buck value.
I give 4 stars for a great product stable powerful no complicated setups but i dont give 5 stars because i would like to see the knob as a remote gain control, not a remote bass boost @50hz, i bought the amp under the imperssion it was wired remote gain control. Also no subsonic filter. But it will give rated power and then some. And runs fairly cool with small foot print!
Pros: Powerful, cool, pretty, delivers rated power, 1 ohm stable, remote bass boost @50hz
Cons: No subsonic filter No remote gain knob (includes remote bass boost which imho is almost useless, but better than nothing)
Sits under the seat of my 04 Colorado perfectly. It powers too 10" DVC 4ohm audiopipes beautifully. I listen to everything from hip hop to metal to jazz and it performs better than expected, even with cheap subs. Can't wait to throw some nice subs behind it!!
Pros: Runs cool, powerful, simple, clean, amazing!
simple, clean, effective, I'm powering two 12" alpine's, no distortion and plenty of thump
Cons: Nothing worth mentioning
Purchased this amp to run a pioneer sub. The amp has tons of power. I wanted a sub to fill the bottom end in my trucks alpine system. I don't listen to real loud music but I needed a little more bass. I'm not the window shaker type, but I tell ya this amp will do it no problem! You can't beat crutchfields price either! Highly recomend!!
Pros: Very powerful. Nice design. Runs cool.
Cons: Size may be an issue for some.
I had my doubts because i'm a alpine head, but this powers my 2 10 i alpine S 4 0hms, perfectly.. i love it
Just installed mine yesterday in my 2015 WRX with an Alpine SWR-12D2 @ 1 ohm. WOW! This combo really rocks. The bass is loud and clean. Very Impressed.
Pros: 1200 watts at 1 ohm for a budget amp. Runs cool.
Cons: No sonic filter.
The amp has loads of power and fit great under my 05 tundra seat. The wired bass boost control is perfect for fine tuning on the fly.
This is a great amp for the price. Goes prefect with the system.
Very happy with the output of this amp. I bought this with Sound Ordnance B-24 and this system hits. I was surprised how well it does considering the price I paid. I was expecting less and very pleasantly surprised. This sounds great for all my music which ranges from Pink Floyd to Beastie Boys.
Pros: Clean Power
Cons: Have not encountered any yet.
This amp is incredible. I am using it with a pair of kicker 12 inch comp a sub offers and they Q bomb subwoofer box. The power in this amp is more then what I need it but for the price I just could not resist it.
Pros: The size is a great asset to it I was able to mounted underneath one of my seats.
Cons: I don't see any cons with this amplifier so far.
Great product especially for the price. I highly recommend it for individuals that want a lot of power for their subs.
With Jason's help at Crutchfield and the awesome tech support I paired the d9601 pioneer with two polk audio m 1040s in a qpower box in my 2012 Chevrolet silverado crew cab and it hits lows that are deep and carry like 15" best system I've ever owned and with research on Crutchfield easy to navigate website I installed it all myself plus wiring tech support explained how this mono amp has two speaker ports wired together internally in amp for going from 4ohm to 2ohms convenience without extra wires to break the 4ohm down amp does the work for you! This site is by far the most knowledgeable caring Internet site I have found and I've been looking a long time. I'm a life long customer! Thank you Crutchfield;)
Pros: Spent not a whole lot and have the most power and deepest bass I've ever had and have spent thousands at local stereo shops. No more !
Cons: Bad news for local stereo shops lol NO COMPLAINTS should've met Crutchfield knowledge years ago!
Love this amp! I have it powering 2 10 inch JL subs and so far I have no complaints!
I review and test a lot of car audio amplifiers, many being "old school". But I kept getting asked over and over to try out this Pioneer GM-D9601. What's this newfangled, budget, 1200 watt Class D amp from Pioneer all about. Before I go further, I'd like to explain Pioneer's importance to car audio...they introduced the first car stereo component in 1975, one of the first CD player's in 1984 and the first removable face radio (late 80's). They have always been a "Pioneer" in the car audio industry. All that said, let's get to the low down about the amp at hand. The GM-D9601 is about the dimensions as a sheet of standard notebook paper. Amazing to me they can pack over 1000 watts in such a small package. The amp has RCA inputs/outputs, adjustable crossover (12dB/oct), 4ga power/ground and 8ga speaker connections. Also included is mounting screws, a remote bass knob and cable. The exterior is very slick, the top appears to be a faux carbon fiber. Remove the six screws holding on the bottom plate (don't to this, I did it just for your benefit) and gaze at the beautiful circuit board. Plenty of filtering capacitors to keep noise levels down and a nice, beefy transformer. I put the amp on my SMD AD-1 Amplifier Dyno and got the following results: Amp delivered on ratings: rated 800w @ 2 ohms, 14.4Vdc - Measured 806w @2 ohms, 14.14Vdc rated 1200w @1 ohm, 14.4Vdc - Measured 1206w @1 ohm, 13.85Vdc Great job Pioneer! Delivered rated power with less vol
Pros: Great power for the money, build quality is high, bass knob/cable included, does rated power, small size, efficient
Cons: no subsonic filter, wish it did 1200w at 2 ohms instead of 1 ohm
Good clean power without the high price tag
Pros: Bass knob for adjusting output right up front. Looks and works great
Massive power in a small pack. Have it powering one 15 P3 Fosgate in an Audi A6. I'm only utilizing half the power of this amp and it's enough to loosen the hinges on my trunk. Insulated sealed box is the way to go, running @1ohm ,one channel.... and wow, the lows are very low. I have had no problems with the amp heating up and I am not using any fans or air movement.. this is definitely a solid amp for Pioneer
Pros: Lasting power, doesn't overheat , awesome price
Cons: Have not found any yet
I have this amp paired with two 10" Alpine type S in a SoundOrdnce ported box @1ohm load. Hits hard! Sounds amazing in my Toyota 4Runner. I highly recommend this amp if you have subs that can handle the 1200 rms watts it delivers. You won't regret it.
Pros: true rms, small
Cons: Gets hot at a 1ohm load...but never shuts off
I was not sure about this amp but got a great deal on it so I got it hooked it up the minute I got it I have two 15 jl audio w3 and bridged it and it hit alot harder than my 1200watt amp after 12 minutes of bamming I smelled my speakers working to hard so I hooked it up with out bridged still hits hard I'm pretty happy with it so I'm gonna add more speakers I know kicker CVR hit really hard so I will probably hook up 4 of them to this amp . I'm impressed instantly I seen a big difference in sound and power I think it's too much for my 15jl audio w3 stoked!!!
Pros: Hits hard sounds good I had it bridged and UN bridged
Cons: Nothing so far
The amp and subs are amazing! I would definitely recommend getting them!
It's a great amp I'm really happy with this purchese
Great amp and subs. nice size and features.
Pros: very efficient. Does not get very hot. more power if loaded down (can be safely done down to 1 OHM)
This is a great amplifier, puts out a true 1200 watts rms and is a mono block amp with a multi output connection. No need to bridge because it wont boost the power. As for the bass knob, it will work once the amplifier is tuned properly. As for the people saying the amplifier is shutting off, check to make sure youre actually at 1 ohm with a multimeter and As long as you have the juice to push it, this amp wont let you down.
Pros: True 1200watts 1ohm stable Mono block Bass knob Class D Amplifier Small and powerful
Cons: Can not stack No 1/0 connections Requires lots of power Limited mounting positions.
Excellenjt all around
Pros: easy installation and hook up
Great product, easy to install, lots of power.
Pros: Excellent product for the money.
Decent but ihow is a mono amp 2 channel?
Pros: Sleek and powerful works like a charm and can pump some serious power.
Cons: Mono amp that is 2 channel doesn't make much sense to me and I can't find any literature saying if bridging will increase power or work at all. Don't want to risk my system to find out.
nice heavy construction, solid amp. installation was simple and adjustment is easy as can be.
Pros: looks good functions great many wiring options simple installation
Cons: none so far
Can't beat Pioneer's quality. Using 4 gauge power/ground wire is a necessity even going for full output. Running 4 Pioneer 10" subs at 4 ohms, Sounds great, no problems most of the time, Bass heavy music "can" shut the amp off if gains and bass boost are not properly set. Built in safety feature will cut the amps power if it pulls to much current. Class D amp, so no heat problems, even with extended play. Overall, this amplifier is great value and quality.
Pros: -1 ohm stability -Power -Sound -Quality
Cons: -No 0 gauge inputs
Good amp for the price, powers my 800 watt sub perfectly.
Cons: The countol to change min to max power dosent work.
I've had this hooked up to my 2 kicker CVR 12s for about 6 months now and i havent encountered a single problem. this puts out an awesome amount of power, and i never fail to amaze everyone who gets in my car. the amp never gets too hot and is just an overall great product.
Just got the Pioneer GM-D9601 and hooked it up to a Pioneer TS-W3002D2 sub at a 1 ohm load since its 1ohm stable and its rocking hard. Nice sound, deep bass but i cant figure out why the bass. at times. cuts off.....maybe too much power. Overall i would recommend it to anyone.
Pros: looks output
Cons: Bass cuts off at times. Maybe its just the way i have it hooked up (user error)

CEA 2006 Compliant: The Pioneer GM-D9601 mono subwoofer amplifier power ratings are measured according to the Consumer Electronics Association's CEA-2006 standards. These standards allow you to accurately compare the rated power output of all CEA-2006 compliant amplifiers, even from different brands. Manufacturers who adhere to the standards can display the CEA-2006 logo on their products and packaging. CEA-2006 Specifications:
1Ω Stable: The GM-D9601 is capable of powering load impedances down to 1Ω.
Auto Turn-on: When using a high voltage speaker level input, a signal sensing circuit will automatically turn the amp on and off along with the source unit.
Gain Control: The gain control is continuously variable from 200 mV to 6.5 V.
Crossover: The low pass crossover is always engaged, and is continuously variable from 40 to 240 Hz.
Bass Boost: The bass boost circuit is variable from 0 to +18 dB, centered at 50 Hz. Adjustment is made using the included wired remote.
Wired Remote: The bass boost circuit is controlled using the included wired remote, which can be mounted within easy reach of the driver. The remote has integral flanges on both sides to mount the unit under the dash. The remote measures:
Power: The power and ground connections are set screw terminals that will accommodate up to 4-gauge wire. The included 3mm Allen wrench is used to tighten and loosen the terminals. Pioneer recommends different power and ground wire gauges based on the length of the wire:
Remote Turn-on: The remote connection is a set screw terminal that will accommodate up to 8-gauge wire. The included 3mm Allen wrench is used to tighten and loosen the terminals.
Speaker Connections: There are two pair of speaker output set screw terminals, internally shorted together so it's easy to connect two subwoofers. The terminals will accommodate up to 8-gauge wire. The included 3mm Allen wrench is used to tighten and loosen the terminals.
Signal Input: The amplifier features one pair of stereo RCA inputs. If no line level signal is available, use the included speaker wire to RCA adapters.
RCA Output: One pair of preamp output jacks provide a convenient way to daisy-chain an additional amplifier without running another set of RCA cables from the front of the vehicle to the amplifier location. The output is not affected by the internal crossover.

I went with the Pioneer TS-SW3002S4 12" shallow mount sub and it is rated at a 100-400w RMS on 4 ohms. This amp is rated for 500w at 4 ohms so I wanted an amp that could drive the sub to it's full potential if I wanted to. I don't think I will ever need all that power but it's nice to have. Previous Rockford Prime 1200 watts bought only months ago from Crutchfield is not functioning. [ Kervin Jun 02, 2016 ]
I was specifically looking for an entry level amp that could give me 1200w @ 1 ohm. This and the Rockford R1200-1D fit the bill. As far as specs go the Pioneer lacks the subsonic filter, but since I will be running this amp from a Blaupunkt 470 DSP which has a subsonic filter on it's pre-out line, that feature on a mono amp was unecessary and the Pioneer saves me $50. At 4 ohms you will get roughly 4 to 5 hundred. At 2 ohms youll get roughly 7 to 8 and at a full 1 ohm load youll get roughly a 1000. Obviously if it wasnt bench test certified you wont know what your truely pushing. [ BERNARD Jun 10, 2017 ]
the amp will output about 800 watts @ a 2 ohm load. if there are 2 subs, that is approx 400 watts ea. [ Geoffrey May 17, 2017 ]
Sorry I mean to say 1ohm [ Frank Apr 14, 2017 ]
Bridge is your best option to me, the amp will perform better. About getting 600 be aware this amp is more powerful the what you think. I'm running 4 Jvl 10 and belive me I'm not using this amp (max power). FYI I'm using my at 1AMP for better performance. [ Frank Apr 14, 2017 ]
I have been using this amp for over a year and never had a problem with overheating, the bass switch works just fine for me. [ Gage Mar 10, 2017 ]
i had this amp before upgrading my amp and subs. I can say this little monster can handle what you dish to it. you can have that amp bass gain knob full tilt and the bass gain on 7 8 or 9 and you wont cook the amp at 2 ohms... at 1 ohm all bets are off most amps after continuous beating at 1 ohm will fry. but the amp is nice. I have it powering 4 8 inch subs and my Rockford fosgate are running my 4 12s at 2 ohm all full gain on the bass boost knob and 9 on the gain and stable and no clipping. [ BERNARD Mar 10, 2017 ]
IMHO: the boost remote is intended for music that is not natively bass heavy to start with. that is how I use it, have no problems. Whether it can fry the amp, I never heard of that before, but anything is possible if an amp is not properly adjusted to start with and they are playing very bass heavy music with the boost up full. [ Geoffrey Mar 10, 2017 ]
Honestly I have this amp for about a year and I have no problem with it using the remote. So far the best amp I have in long time with no prblem. Moving 4 10 jvl [ Frank Mar 10, 2017 ]
Nope in my personal experience i had one for 2 years and abused that bass boost remote and the amp was always rock solid in preformace [ Sean Mar 10, 2017 ]
no, it is a 1 channel amp. It is designed for driving sub woofers. The amp needs a 1 ohm load for that rating. [ Geoffrey Nov 22, 2016 ]
No. It's a 1200 watt RMS single channel [ Jason Nov 22, 2016 ]
Only way your gonna get 1200 RMS from that amp is at 1 ohm which with the design at 4 ohms you get 400 watts 2 ohms you get 800 watts and 1ohm you will get 1200 watts. But thats a rough calculation [ BERNARD Nov 22, 2016 ]
depends on the load on the amp, most car audio installers would recommend 4 AWG, but 8 AWG would work if you have it setup for 800 Watts or less. [ Geoffrey Aug 17, 2016 ]
HI Chris...honestly I'm running straight fromega the battery a # 10 going into a cap and from the cap #10 to the amp. Also from the amp ground #10 straight the chassis of my truck. The amp is working great. [ Frank Aug 17, 2016 ]
4 Guage is suitable and recommended for both wires. [ BERNARD Aug 17, 2016 ]
i used 12 awg. i bought the soundblocker wire for speakers at local retialer for like 16 bucks for 20 feet. more then enough to run your subs from youre amp. [ BERNARD May 26, 2016 ]
Just bridge it to either Chanel mine is mounted so deep for me to get too call me [ LINDA S May 26, 2016 ]
it does not really matter, both terminals are very likely connected together internally. (do a continuity test with a multi meter to be sure.) most mono amps are like this if two terminals are present. [ Geoffrey May 25, 2016 ]

to drop your subs to 1 ohm you have to buy a 3rd sub which is 4 ohm and run the speakera in parallel. with 3 subs it starts at 4 ohms and splits to 2 subs at 2 ohms and then adding the 3rd sub would split the 2 ohm load to 1 ohm stable. but with 4 ohm voice coils the best you will get with a pair is 2 ohm. [ BERNARD May 26, 2016 ]
I'm not sure that you can. As typically, the speakers ohm rating has to match that of the amp. But I could be wrong. [ JAL Jan 16, 2016 ]
Yessir. But if your doin 2 12's its up to you but I'd put a bigger sized amp to get the full potential of the subs. Might be cool but I'm powerin 2 jl audio shallow 10's with it. I had a 1700 watt hifoniks Brutus with my old truck an that had 2 shallow mount 12's alpine type Rs an probably my favorite I've had so far for shallow subs [ Justin Sep 02, 2015 ]
The RCA plugs ends that came included. You can wire speaker wires to them, and plug them to the RCA inputs. The amp accepts high level and low lever inputs at the same place, and automatically determines what level is being used, and adjusts accordingly. [ Jason Aug 08, 2015 ]

For this application I suggest infinity kappa 10s. I have one running off this amp and I have all settings turned all the way down and it shakes my truck. [ RYAN Sep 28, 2014 ]
This is my understanding - If you are running qty(3) subs in parallel @ 1ohm, each sub will only see 400w. I don't know what wiring setup would give you 1ohm without imbalance. If you wire qty(2) 4ohm subs in parallel, it gives you 2ohms. Then you could run wires from that pair to the amp along with a single 2ohm sub, which would give you 1ohm load to the amp BUT THAT WILL NOT PRESENT AN EVEN POWER DISTRIBUTION TO ALL THREE SPEAKERS. NOT RECOMMENDED. Qty(3) 4ohm speakers in parallel with even power distribution = 1.33ohm load to the amp. This is balanced, and doesn't take the amp to its limit. This is not a huge amount of power for each driver, so you could use just about any good sub - it doesn't have to be a monster. Kicker Comp VR's will run all day long with that amount of power. There's no replacement for displacement - get the biggest subs that your available space will allow. But don't put big 15' subs in a box that's too small to support their internal volume recommendation. If you think you might reconfigure down the road, you could step up to Kicker Comp R, which handle twice the power of the Comp VR (but cost ~$50 more per driver)! [ KEVIN Sep 26, 2014 ]

Short answer is, it doesn't. I have mine wired at 1 ohm load in my boat running 2 Alpine type R 12's. It's in the engine compartment of my boat, and I have played it non stop for 8 hours without any problems whatsoever. [ Jason Aug 08, 2015 ]
Mine is located in the top of my sub box in the trunk of my car. The amp doesn't get very hot that I've noticed even during the heat wave we experienced of 105 heat index. I own an 08 impala so the trunk space is large and therfore dissipates the heat well if it were to get warm. I run it at 2 ohms. [ JOHN A Jan 05, 2014 ]
not very hot at all. my setup is at 1-ohm and unless I am really pounding away, the amp hardly heats up at all. when it does heat up it does not even come close to what I would call "hot" or reach a level to be concerned about. it's a great amp for the money! [ JEFF Dec 21, 2013 ]
since i bought this pioneer gm d9601 it's been great never overheated never shut off its a real good amp [ RICHARD Dec 20, 2013 ]
