Cons: Bulky

iPhone 4/4S Compatible

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Picked this up as the USB port on the back of the radio worked well to charge and link the iTunes music, but didn't allow the use of Appradio. This cord works as described and brings the iPhone to life on my Pioneer avh-x3600bhs DVD receiver. My only complaint is the cord should have two equal lengths for the data plug and the USB plug and it doesn't. So making it fit from the stereo to a location accessible to plug the phone in is horrible without using a USB extension cord. Otherwise, you can pick one up locally and move on with life.

Pros: Heavy construction, solid lockin 30 pin iPhone connector.

Cons: USB and Data plug are Not The Same Length?

No surprise here. Its a cable that allows you to watch videos from an apple device with old school pin connector. I'm using it with my couple of generations ago iPod nano. The cable is a little bulky, especially trying to run it through my glove box, but I managed it. If you want to watch videos, you will need this. the price is a little steep but oh well.

Pros: Serves its purpose well.

Cons: Expensive Bulky

The Cable

Richard from Memphis on 12/9/2014

Well... Like everybody says, you need it for app radio & video. And it would help if the phone was jail broken. I have an iPhone 4s & the X8500BHS. Everything works. GPS, Google maps, Pandora, iheartradio, Netflix & Youtube even works. So I'm good. I don't even use my Bluetooth. I let my passengers connect to it.

Pros: Does what it supposed to do Charges phone

Cons: Bulky cords

WOrks well with iPod Touch

Jeff D from Corning, NY on 11/17/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Cable works well with iPod Touch. Unfortunately it uses the only USB port and is quite bulky. Doesn't stay attached well.

Pros: Works as advertised

Cons: Expensive, Bulky and uses the lone available USB port. Would have rated it a '5' if it weren't so expensive and bulky

Nice working cable

Pros: It does the job intended

Cons: Head is big, you have to modify your phone's protective case just so that it fits.

Brett P from Sykesville, MD on 10/3/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The cable works as advertised, but dues to needing to plug the USB and interface ports in the back, it lends itself to a very bulky cable that you are snaking through your dash.

Pros: Works well as advertised.

Cons: This is essentially 2 cables that you must run in tandem. I haven't seen a head unit that did not have the usb and interface ports far enough apart to justify not combining the cables as they go further than 10" from the head unit.

Good Cable

Osuh8r from Suffolk Va on 6/13/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Good cable. Highly recommend

Pros: I have a 5C iPhone and the adapter fits great. Works well with Pandora.

Cons: Cable works great but the apps are horrible for Pioneer

works great, only minor complaints

JimboX from Sacramento CA on 5/8/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The cable works great, does exactly what it is supposed only complaints are... 1.the I-phone connector is a little big...i had to change my phone case to one with a bigger opening to get it to stay connected (plugs in through my "Spek" case, but pops right back out) 2.its a bit expensive....but, it does as advertised.. all in all, it does what i want it to, so don't hesitate (as long as the price does not scare you off)

Pros: cable is long enough (was worries about that) cable is heavy duty cable has usb connector in-line, so i can connect a usb flash card easily

Cons: large plug, made me switch cases to keep it pluged in price $$$$

Works as advertised

What can you say, it's a cable, you need it if you want to connect your iPhone. It works as advertised.

Pros: It works

Cons: Too expensive for no more than it is, especially considering it's for an almost outdated phone (4, 4S)

I purchased this harness with my new head unit to replace the RF transmitter I previously had been using. The install was a simple plug and play while installing the new head unit. The cable works great and is crazy long if you need to route it pretty far from your head unit.

Cons: The price was pretty high for the cable but is worth it considering it is about as a nice RF transmitter.

Pros: Works as described

Cons: A little too expensive

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I thought this was a little pricey for just a cable. There are aftermarket cable available at a lot less of a price. But, this was guaranteed to do what I wanted to do - navigation apps from my phone, and Pandora - so I put out the extra money and it has performed flawlessly.

Pros: Works without a hitch.

Cons: A little pricey.

Great product, works as it's supposed to. Allows my iphone or iPod to be directly connect to my stereo. The length was perfect for my jeep.

Pros: Good length of cable Works with most apple products some new iPhones and iPods will require an adapter. Charges devices

Cons: Price is a little steep

Expensive but required

Pioneer iPhone connection

Stephen from Ridgefield NJ on 12/16/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Nice product but cable is doubled up and very stiff. I could not get the iPhone to stay in one position because of the stifness. I ended up buying a white single male to female cable which is more flexible. The functionality is good when controlling the iPhone but with my receiver I'm finding that it is only marginally better than the included streaming BlueTooth. I probably would have had the same functionality if I bought a iPhone cradle and used that instead. The app Mode that it is used for is kinda worthless and not developed fully yet and I rarely use it because you have to pull over and apply the parking brake for it to be functional. In my opinion don't spend your money on it.

Pros: Controls iPhone with the receiver.

Cons: Stiff cable, app mode for Pioneer is not fully developed, need to apply parking brake, BlueTooth streaming and normal USB iPhone hook up are sufficient.

The cable does the job it is intended to do. The build quality is really good.

Pros: Crutchfield was/is offering this for free if you purchase the right head unit.

Cons: Priced somewhat high but not too much that I would buy it.

Great Wire at a High Price

CK808 from Hilo, HI on 10/22/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This cord works pretty well but the cost is really high and is really fat. Since its the only way to play videos from an idevice,I didn't have much of a choice. Also, this cord still uses the USB input, which doesn't allow for any other input options with the idevice. Should either be included with the deck, cost less, or use a plug other than the USB plug.

Pros: Works pretty well

Cons: Costs too much, is too fat to hide easily, and takes up the USB port.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

It's durable and works as promised. kind of clunky, but i assume its to protect the wiring inside. Wish my iphone 4s allowed for mirroring which would make this item so worth 10 stars.

Pros: seemingly strong and durable, video, netflix, and sound clarity is nice.

Cons: if any, the thickness and price.

GolfEngr1 from Fort Worth,TX on 6/17/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This product is not even worth 1 star. I understand the need to have a seperate cable not sold with the radio, not everyone uses an iPhone. I don't mind spending money when it is something that will solve for what I want. My intent was to use my iPhone with the Pioneer DVD reciever and display my maps from my phone (Will review that function with the DVD reciever review). In order to do that you need to buy this cable. THIS IS THE ABSOLUTE WORST PRODUCT I HAVE EVER BOUGHT! When I spend $$ I have expectations that this cable will be everything I think it should be. The adapter to the iPhone is comparable to some of the worst / cheap connections I have ever used with the phone. It will barely go into the phone and when it does the clips will often times not release. You can not use a case with this adapter. I have a very minimum size cover for my phone and I had to take it off. The adapter fit better but then would not release. THIS PRODUCT IS SO BAD THAT I CAME VERY CLOSE TO TAKING MY PIONEER RADIO OUT OF MY TRUCK AND SWITCHING BRANDS! If I didn't have to go through all of the effort I probably would. APP RADIO IS HORRIBLE ANYWAY! Simply use a standard iPhone cable plugged into the USB on the back of your receiver. This will work well for everything including Pandora. I saw some negative reviews of this cable and looked past them. I am writing this so buyers can be fully aware. Pioneer should be ashamed of this product, the quality and the price!

Pros: The cable is black

Cons: Adapter to phone is horrible Does not work with phone case adapter gets stuck in phone Separate USB cable has to plug in and not integrated with 1 cable Cable is very bulky Is not needed to control Pandora and use voting thumbs up / down App Radio is the awful I think this product was developed for the 1st iPhone ever and not updated!! Read the other "positive" reviews of this - you can read between the lines very easy - Thank you Crutchfield for a 60 day return policy.

Not bad

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I've had the cable for about a week. It works well. The only real complaint I have about it is that it's very thick. Also, not the cables fault, the compatible apps are pretty weak.

Pros: Charges phone fast

Cons: Very thick

Fairly dissapointing

RealPilotNow from Ocala, FL on 4/27/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Cable does what it claims, but the apps (maps) tend to take a bit of "disk" space on the iPhone. My biggest complaint would be that I could not multi-task, (Maps AND radio at the same time)... For such powerful hardware, (iPhone and Pioneer AVH-X4500BT) they should be able to work better together in my opinion, especially when they are connected. I use my vehicle for business and travel a lot. I need something that will entertain, and have the capability of GPS at the same time. Normally, Google Maps works great, (no display on the radio though) and will give directions even if the radio is playing and you don't need the cable for that! Cable is bulky and would be prone to wear if you cycled the connection on the phone several times a day (as in my case). My radio is a tool, NOT a toy! Perhaps the apps will improve eventually. Hope Crutchfield has a great return policy! A cradle with this cable might be nice, at least that would eliminate the hassle of what to DO with it to make it look good in the car. As it is, cable management with a cable this bulky leaves a lot to be desired.

Pros: Does what it advertises. Had no issues running the apps.

Cons: Simply did not meet my needs. Cable is bulky and difficult to manage. Very difficult for cable management if you care what your car looks like. WAY too expensive for what you get!

Pretty beefy cables, especially with the USB cord piggy-backed, but it works as advertised. Charges and interfaces with the iPhone fine. The plug is large and I had to grind some off to fit my wife's iPhone case. Also, I'm not sure why the separate USB cord versus housing them both in one case.

Pros: Works as designed

Cons: Bulky cable, 2 cords to feed (I attached mine together), large connector

Pros: Well built

Cons: Too expensive

Large and Awkward

LBW from Raleigh NC on 3/7/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Caution! When I fist hooked this up, it did not work. After reviewing the Pioneer owner's manual, I found that you have to also use the USB cord that comes with your Receiver. So coming out to your phone/ipod is this big heavy combersome cord with 2 seperate cords attached to the phone plug. Very ackward! I tried my iphone charging cable in the rear USB port by itself and it worked perfectly! Why bother with this cable? Waste of money if you ask me.

Pros: I don't see any

Cons: Heavy, way to large, double cabling, expensive!

I have this connected to my AVH P8400BH to use the app radio and forgo bluetooth audio streaming. It's unnecessarily expensive and bulky BUT it's the only way to go if you want to use all of your Pioneer head unit's features. Maybe the bulk will pay off in longevity?

Pros: It works, it's neccessary

Cons: It's big and expensive

It Works

Mr. Mike from Adamsville, GA on 9/12/2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I only use this cable to control my iPod and access my music files, and this cable works exactly as described. As another reviewer said, it is a bulky, so I hope you have plenty of space behind your radio. The only real problem I had with the cable is that I thought the USB part of the cable would detach from the rest of the cable so that I could plug another device into, but this not the case. The USB cable is made into the iPod connector, and it is much shorter than the rest of the cable, meaning when stretched all the way out; the USB cable is only about one third of the length of the rest of the cable. If you look closely at the picture you can see it. This made it difficult to plug both parts to the back of the radio, and keep enough length to put the iPod in the desired location.

Pros: Works as described.

Cons: Bulky, and the USB cable is not the same length as the iPod cable.

Wow, it works but...

Shadmaxservices from Portland,Oregon on 5/21/2012

Ok, so its a very heavy duty cable and works very well for the iphone 4s (is what I have). However, Its very large and thick in size and buyer beware if your planning to put it in landscape mode or switching orientations. I ordered a second cable because I didn't realize how sensitive this cable was about being in landscape mode. I actually use it alot with setting the GPS program on my Iphone. This appmode that is included with my AVH-P8400BH wants you to use MotionX or A Program called NavFree. Right now, there is a number of limited apps out there for use with this AppRadio Cable. I use an AV jailbreak program called Display Out so that what ever is on my Iphone can be used with this cable. So, I use the Navigon App for GPS. (It's not an app supported with this Appradio List) However, I do still use it. The touch screen is not usable on my headunit because Its being used as a mirror display only. Overall, Pioneer has the right idea with this cable add-on however, keep it in portrait mode or else you will wear it out much faster than it's intended to last.

Pros: Thick Cable Works with the AppRadio Enabled Head Units from Pioneer Only Has a protective Ipod/Iphone Connector Plug when not in use. Allows 3rd party Video Programs to output VGA RGB Signals to Headunit.

Cons: Cable cant take alot of Orientation switching. Portrait to Landscape (Visa Versa)

Yes you will be able to access it. It works better if you have a Iphone [ DAMONT  Feb 18, 2014 ]
Yes. AppRadio Apps will work. Cable is well made and reliable, however it is heavy duty and is too thick to fit through the opening of a Life proof case. [ Jeffrey  Feb 17, 2014 ]
I have not been able to access my apps using an iphone 4s. I self installed, so this could be the issue. Extensive internet research shows that the app function should work with any phone. So to answer your question, it doesn't work for me, but should. [ MITCHELL  Feb 16, 2014 ]
yes, but you will need to get an extender. [ ERICH  Jan 02, 2014 ]
Unfortunately I can't give you an educated answer on this, I didn't have a LifeProof case. I can't picture it working though. I have an iPod with the typical thin cover and I have to uncover the port to allow the connection to fully seat. I would think the LifeProof case is way thicker that the soft case on my iPod, which wouldn't allow the connection to fully seat into the iPhone. [ MARK  Dec 31, 2013 ]
The 30 pin connection is approximately 1/8 inch wider on all sides than the iPhone slot. If the opening on the LifeProof case is at least that much larger, it should work. [ MITCHELL  Dec 31, 2013 ]
Sorry, but I don't use the case that you are inquiring about. [ SCOTT A  Dec 30, 2013 ]
No it will not [ BERTHA  Dec 30, 2013 ]
Put simple yes and no. Yes it will fit but because of the case you really have to push in, BUT it seems road vibration does at times allow it come loose. Works better with the Otterbox than Lifeproof version. [ GORDON  Dec 30, 2013 ]
I'm not familiar with that case so I'm not sure if it will work. I have an iPhone 4S with an otter box commuter case and it works just fine. The plug in is pretty much the same size as the iPhone 30 pin, just slightly thicker. But the plug size is the same. I hope that helps you. [ CHRISTIAN  Dec 30, 2013 ]
No it will not. I had a life proof case also when I bought the unit but had to switch to one with a larger opening at the charger for it to fit. It was just a pain having to take the case off every time I got in the car. [ ROGER  Dec 30, 2013 ]
Unfortunately it won't. But then again no cable does except the Apple supplied one. I end up taking my case off. I have the 4 and wife the 4S and both use that case. Wish they made a connector like they did for the headphones. [ ALEXANDER  Dec 30, 2013 ]
I don't think this cable will connect if you have a large case such as the LifeProof case. I solved this by removing the case entirely. The connection is very solid and you can even pick up the phone and look at it by holding the cable. I am very pleased with the interface and the Pioneer software easily picks up the iPhone input and plays anything you have in queue. So if you can part with your case, this is definitely a solid cable and a good buy. When I eventually upgrade my 4s phone to a 5s or a 6, I will experiment with one of those $30 adapters that Apple sells from a 30 pin to the smaller set. [ RYAN  Dec 30, 2013 ]
I have an Otter box case, and it works fine. The connector end is the same size as my Iphone charger, so I would guess that if your charger works with your Lifeproof case, then you should be ok. [ WILLIAM J  Dec 30, 2013 ]
Yes this can be used with the 4s. It can be used with any 30 pin connector. [ MARSHALL  Dec 22, 2013 ]
