Pros: Cassette player and detachable face. Very important for a jeep when you keep the doors and top off half the year.

Cons: No USB or aux input.

Great replacement.Easy to install. All the parts were came with the radio. No need to purchase anything separately.Took about an hour, self install.

Pros: Easy, all included to install.Works and sounds great.Better than original equipment.

Cons: None really. It's what I expected for a Car cassette stereo.

Unfortunately it doesn't work properly

Anonymous from Illinois on 10/30/2015

I noticed that tapes played through this unit while the car was in motion sounded "blurry". I parked so the car was not subject to road vibrations and nothing changed. I contacted Crutchfield and the representative was extremely helpful. and a new unit is being sent out to me along with postage to get the original unit back to them. Hopefully this will solve the problem.. These things happen I know.

Great enough a combo unit like this is available. and for same price i paid well over 5 yrs ago! after a couple of hiccups, i have come to enjoy this machine very much. in fact, i turned around and bought another one for another vehicle (they should match, right? and the Customer Service had got to be unequaled! far as i can tell, you can't go wrong with company or unit.

Pros: It's Available and great price + no shipping charge.

Cons: haven't found one yet.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This isn't actually fair. I was replacing a 20 year old Pioneer radio/cassette player in my truck. I already knew the Pioneer quality. This unit lived right up to expectations. Crutchfield's made the installation easy with their recommendations of associated items to buy. I had it installed within 30 minutes and was on my way.

Pros: Designed to fit just like advertised, and the unit is as good as advertised. It is stylish and works wonderfully.

Cons: Absolutely no complaints.

1994 Chrysler Lebaron
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

My 94 LeBaron GTC convertible cassette player ate an old tape and jammed up the system. I couldn't free it no matter what. So it was time for a new one and Crutchfield seemed to be the only place to get one (nobody makes these anymore - glad they had one in stock). No directions for installation was available for this car so I took the easy way out and had it installed at the audio shop. Great move! I think the installation was more than I could have handled without damaging something. I was once told that this model LeBaron had a great sound system but what I had originally was just so-so. When I first tried out the new radio/cassette, the sound blew me away. What a difference new equipment makes. I think I upped the value of the car. It looks great and now I have a sound system to match. This was an excellent investment.

Pros: Impressive sound quality.

Cons: Challenging to install without written instructions. Probably too many functions making its use more complex than needed. Difficulty in reading the display, especially in daylight with the top down.

Bob C. from California on 8/31/2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

After the 4 days of use, the cassette player, ate a cassette tape up! I had to pull the tape out of the unit! When I did, the tape stretched, and broke! I think some of the tape was still left in the unit, wrapped around the capstan, and wheels, because other tapes being played, in forward motion, were muted, and lost audio, but when played in reverse, were loud & clear! As soon as Crutchfield found out, they immediately, send me a replacement unit, which now, works fine! The only other feature this unit doesn't have is, the cassette player cannot automatically CUE up, a song on a cassette, using fast forward, or reverse in the unit, to the next song(s)! One, has to "guess", where the songs are!

Pros: It has more FM memory channels! My old radio, only had 12 FM, memory channels! This radio, to my surprise, has 18 FM channels!

Cons: The cassette player does't "automatically CUE" up any songs, by pushing a button to a particular song! Instead you have to fast forward, or reverse, and "guess", where the songs are, that you want to hear is!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

everything about this geart am/fm/cassette player is just what I knew I wold get. No disappointment other than the one thing I can't figure out. The display button doesn't do anything. I problem is the fact that the led display is so dim I can't see it other than at night time. During the day light or sunny part of the day I can't see anything at all...which make it imposible to make other settings. The instruction say..just push the "display button" for different setting, but when I do so nothing happens. What am I missing/doing wrong??? Thanks, EJ

Pros: ease of installation, great sound (if you have the right speakers) I'm going to order a second unit to have on hand for the future.

Cons: can't figure out the display settings.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

my 30 year old oem Toyota unit went out and I could not find one like it that was not highly used up already, I was concerned a aftermarket radio would not be able to pull in weak signals like my old one did, but was pleasantly surprised with the radio performance, it lives up to the supertuner name I remember from many decades ago.

Pros: cassette radios are getting hard to find and sometimes you just want a radio that matches the era of the car.

Cons: no circuit for night time display dimming, minor issue

Great reciever. Cassette???

Joel from Kansas City on 4/20/2015

1994 Chevrolet Suburban
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Only had this unit for a few days so this may be premature, but cassette playback seems to have what I'd consider noticible flutter. Tape playback sounds "wavy or uneven like a warped record. I had to replace a worn out Kenwood that didn't have this problem with the same tapes. I'll try a few more before maybe contacting Crutchfield to see if my unit is just a dud. The AM and FM is very good. Not as many features as I was used to with the old Kenwood such as tape advance, but selection for cassette players is limited now, so it'll have to do. Was advised to buy a GM wiring harness that turns out I didn't need, but other than that, Crutchfield's customer service and technical help is AWESOME, as always.

Pros: Good sound with AM, FM. Easy to install. Looks good.

Cons: Cassette player is either a defective unit or iffy at best. Maybe It'll take some break-in time. I'll try some Allman Brothers at max volume tomorrow to see if that doesn't fix it.

Tape decks are back!

T. Stubbs from California on 3/20/2015

1987 Toyota 4Runner
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

You have all heard it. Tapes are coming back. Get ahead of the curve with a kickin' deck from Pioneer. No fuss. No muss. Plays your cassettes and has an AM/FM receiver. What more do you need? It's not going to get stolen and it is rad to be carrying around a case full of cassette decks. Load up on Rush, Pink Floyd, and Yes and hit the highway. The best part is hearing that tape switch sides. I missed that sound so much and I did not even realize it. Brings me right back. Nostalgia overload.

Pros: Not going to be stolen. Nostalgic. Hipster chic. Mechanics work perfectly.

Cons: Does not play MP3s or CDs (what are those?) or vinyl or 8-tracks. Are these cons? Truly, the only con is listening to the dead space on a tape when an album doesn't fill the entire side. That is it.

Modern blast from the not so far past

JoeN from Alaska on 2/12/2015

2013 Chevrolet Sonic
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I recently got back into cassettes and LPs. In building my analog system I learned that the best quality gear is old used-refurbished gear. I took a risk buying this cassette deck, because of the lack of quality new cassette players, and made out pretty great. It played in -22F weather; however, the tape didn't like it. As soon as the car was warmed up the sound from the tape and player was amazing. I have a Chevy Sonic, and didn't think I would be able to fit a cassette player in it, once again, was glad to be wrong. The adapter I got along with the tape deck looks like the gear was meant to be in this model. Next I'm installing some JBL speakers and I'll report if they sound better than the stock speakers, that came with the Sonic. I'm very pleased that the "super tuner" series hasn't lost any quality. I recommend this blast from past that is still being manufactured.

Pros: Inexpensive, better sound from the stock speakers than the stock USB/Radio that came with the car

Cons: Lacking features that older cassette players had, such as music search, retracting head, but still well worth the price.

Sooooo easy to install...

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The product was an almost congruent replacement for my old defunct Becker in a MB 300E. So, good fit, function-wise. Electrically, the installation could not have been easier (but then, I'm a EE, and was an electronics tech for years, also.) Getting my center console apart was a bear. Mercedes likes to be clever, hiding fasteners. But once the console was opened, getting the frame in place was a minor problem, as either it was 1/16" oversized, or the Mercedes plastic slot was 1/16" undersized? A bar-clamp used as a spreader solved this, deforming the plastic a tad, then the frame was 'tapped' in by walking it with a 2x4 (literally!) Once that was done, the unit fit like a glove. I did need to make one wire that Crutchfield did not provide: A 1/4" male-to-male spade wire, 5" long to connect the auto-antenna lead. Then the rest was a piece of cake! Works great, sounds great!

Pros: Function and electric interfaces almost perfect!

Cons: My MB 'hole' in the console.

Glad I saved all those tapes!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I am so happy I decided to purchase this tape deck. It brings me such joy. I love to listen to tapes in my car. It's something about a whole album, start to finish, the way it was intended, without having to mess with the dials. There's no temptation to touch my phone, which is super important to me for safety (but I do have a bluetooth tape that will play songs off my phone, for when I've got my navigator/DJ riding shotgun). Besides, I have so many good tapes, and they seem to be easy to find. There are even small labels putting out albums on tape, and old mix tapes from friends. Somehow, it made my speakers sound better too; I didn't realize that if my receiver was crap then my new speakers might sound lame too. Also, it's easy-op, auto-reverse with responsive buttons and radio presets. I like it so much I'm considering buying another one, just for future use, since I don't think they're making them anymore. Tape Love 4ever

Pros: The way the guys that installed it looked at me. Priceless!

The fit into my 1988 Ford F-250 was 9 of 10, the instruction could be a bit more detailed. The sound quality and operation are very good, the fit a little loose, but it looks very good. Nice stealth radio

SgtFriday from Dallas, TX on 1/31/2013

2002 Toyota Tundra
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I've had this model for about ten years now, or one almost exactly like it, if the details have changed. I have a CD changer and XM radio connected to it. Only problem was due to the XM antenna failing due to the lead-in being crimped by the passenger door. It has been a workhorse, looks like a dated stereo, and I can get XM, CD changer and AM and FM cassette radio. Slight inconvenience is having to hold a button pushed when you need to rapidly lower or raise volume. Fader access is a little difficult for me to remember and have to rediscover this feature once in a while. Buttons have held up long enough to make me wonder if they are ever going to fail. This is a good product, the sound is acceptable for my pickup truck, stock speakers, and the dependability and stealth looks are priceless. A great product.

Pros: Dependable stealth.

Cons: Some control inconvenience. Due to stealth, it isn't really cool.

Cassette head unit

fred from Phoenix, AZ on 12/3/2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This unit is being installed in a convertible where it will be visible and easily accessible. It is subtle in appearance and should hide the actual use it has as teh controller for my 12-disc changer and amp/subwoofer/speaker setup. Excellent control unit to run the main focus of my looks like a dated cassette deck of little interest to would-be thieves.

Pros: Stealthy appearance for the features it controls including satellite radio and the components in my system.

Cons: NONE.

Pros: easy to install with included instructions (any problems you may encounter Crutchfield is there to help you through if needed) Great sounding receiver with no problems at this time .The receiver that was removed was also a Pioneer and it has been in the truck for around 10 years am thinking .

Cons: none at this time ( hoping it will preform as will as the last receiver did.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased this pioneer keh-p2030 as a replacement for my pioneer keh-p4020, which had worn out and which is no longer available. installation was a breeze, I was able to reuse the keh-p4020 sleeve and existing cabling. but i don't think the keh-p2030 is as good a product as the keh-p4020. for one thing, the tape player does not have the "music search" feature. with regard to the multi-cd player, one cannot sequentially select a disc by pressing the 'up' or 'down'. repeat play is awkward and there's no 'repeat play' indicator in the display when a track has been selected for repeat play. The display itself is very weak -- not visible at all in ambient daylight (but, to be fair, the keh-p4020 had the same problem) . BUT. i am pleased: i most emphatically got my money's worth. and dealing w/ Crutchfield is always a pleasure (i called in to inquire about this thing, esp. re: re-using the sleeve and cabling from the previous keh-p4020 -- which the guy told me would be do-able)

Does have balance and fade

TW from Seattle, WA on 5/27/2012

A review on this page questions whether this unit has balance and fade adjustment. According to the manual (available for download here), it does. You do have to press a button to put the unit into "FAD" mode, and then you can adjust both the front-rear fade, and the left-right balance. (Note: I have never owned this unit, just trying to cast light on the fading/balance issue.)

Good deal

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Sounds great. Good value for the money. Be sure to order all the installation stuff recommended by Crutchfield for your specific vehicle when you check out. I did and it was all necessary and very helpful.

Pros: Good sound. No tape hiss. Fairly easy installation. Solder don't crimp when splicing in the wiring harness, you will be glad you did. Good value for the price.

Cons: Does not seem to have an automatic head retractor to disengage the head when the car is off. This causes the head to stay compressed against the tape if you leave a tape in, which may damage the head over time, so have to remember to eject the tape when parking the car for a period of time. Does not have balance/fade adjustment, unless I just haven't found it yet. The four arrows look like they should be balance/fade adjustments but they have other functions.

Product Research

Display/Button Illumination: All display indicators and readouts are displayed with light green illumination. The buttons are backlit with light green illumination.

Bass, Treble and BTB: This model allows you to adjust the bass +/-12dB at 100Hz and the treble +/-12dB at 10kHz. In addition to standard treble and bass settings, this model also has 5 stored BTB (Bass Treble Boost) settings: Dynamic, Power, Max, Custom and Flat. Custom is an adjusted BTB setting that you create. When Flat is selected, no supplement or correction is made to the sound.

Selectable Loudness: You can select a Low or High level of loudness compensation. The Low setting provides a 7dB gain at 100Hz and 4dB gain at 10kHz. The High setting provides a 10dB gain at 100Hz and 6.5dB gain at 10kHz.

Source Level Adjustment (SLA): This function prevents radical leaps in volume when switching between sources. To use this function, you compare the volume level of the sources (AM, Tape/CD changer) to the FM level, then you adjust the source level to match that heard when listening to FM. Since the reference level is based on the FM volume, SLA is not possible on FM.

Tuner: This unit is equipped with Pioneer's Supertuner, which provides outstanding AM and FM performance.

Best Stations Memory: BSM lets you automatically store the strongest 6 stations for AM and each of the three FM bands. The stations are stored under preset buttons 1-6.

Radio Intercept: The last station tuned in will play while the tape deck is in fast forward or rewind mode. This feature may be turned on or off.

yes,it can play cd,however you need to buy a wire to connect at the back of radio, also you need instruction from manual to how operate cd. [ NABHAN S  Jul 08, 2015 ]
There is no easy way to play a cd off this unit. It is a modern version of a 70s am fm cassette deck. I am using it in a 70s vehicle. You can buy a separate cd changer that mounts under the seat and play them thru the aux inputs on this machine, but you would probably be better off buying a cd deck. Unless, you want the flexibility of playing cds and cassettes, then , just buy a separate cd changer. [ ROBERT  Jul 08, 2015 ]
My sony cd player plugs into the antenna port and the antenna plugs into a box provided with the cd player. Harry [ Harry  Jul 07, 2015 ]
You would have to use a CD to cassette adapter with a portable CD player. Google it - you'll find many sources. [ Patrick  Jul 07, 2015 ]
I added a FM modulator to the radio. It has an auxiliary input and connects between your antenna and radio. When you turn it on and tune your radio to a specific fm frequency. You aux input signal, CD player, MP3 player, etc. plays through your radio. [ EARL  Jul 07, 2015 ]
I dont think you can. I use a tape with an audio jack on it to hook up my ipod. Unless you get a discman......then just plug it into tge tape jack [ RYAN R  Jul 07, 2015 ]
They used to make a device that had a "cassette" that fit into this system, and a small wire went to a .portable CD player. I saw one a while back, but I don't remember where. [ TED  Jul 07, 2015 ]

I purchased this item and it was broken. I returned it and got my money back. I can't answer your question. I ended up buying an Alpine disc player and have never regretted it. [ DENNIS  Aug 24, 2014 ]

Jim, I don't have the manual in front of me as it is in my camper 35 miles away closed up for the winter. I believe the following will help. On the left side of the receiver are 4 buttons arranged in a circle. Press and hold the top button and this will put you in the clock mode. I'm not sure about the rest but I'm sure you can figure it out from there. Earl B [ EARL  Dec 06, 2013 ]
