Pioneer AVH-P3400BH

Bluetooth for convenience and safety
Bluetooth lets you keep your eyes on the road — when a call comes in, you simply press a button on the receiver to talk hands-free, as if the caller is sitting next to you. You can also access your phone book from the screen, so it's easy to make outgoing calls. Bluetooth audio streaming lets you play content from your compatible device through the receiver, without hooking up any cables.

HD Radio
What's the story on HD Radio? Simply the best sound ever to come over the airwaves, that's what. When you tune in a station broadcasting an HD Radio signal, you'll enjoy near CD-quality FM, plus static-free AM with improved fidelity. There's nothing extra to do and no fees to pay — just tune in free HD Radio over the air, like a regular radio station.

Great audio and video versatility
If you connect your iPhone to the receiver with Pioneer's CD-IU51V cable, you can take charge of your Pandora® account from the touchscreen, complete with thumbs-up and thumbs-down controls. Plug in your iPod® to the front-panel USB input, and you'll be able to use the receiver's controls to access your playlists, with handy tools like Alphabet Search to help you find the song or album you want in a snap. And the 1-amp USB port will charge your devices quickly if the battery is run down.

The 5.8" LCD screen plays DVDs in bright, clear detail when you're parked. You'll need Pioneer's CD-IU51V cable to view video content from your iPod or iPhone® when parked, , or to show video on your backseat screens so your passengers can watch while you drive.

Rear panel

Add navigation and more
Pioneer's AVIC-U220 navigation module converts the AVH-3400BH into a full-fledged navigation receiver. And you can add a rear-view camera to the receiver's cam input — it'll make backing up in tight spots a lot easier and safer, too.

Want to keep your car's steering wheel audio controls?
In most vehicles, you can use an adapter to connect your vehicle's steering wheel controls to this Pioneer stereo. Connect a few wires, then program the adapter for your particular car and the Pioneer, and you'll retain the convenience of your steering wheel controls.

Bluetooth note: Use of this receiver's Bluetooth features will depend upon your phone's Bluetooth capabilities. Learn more in our article explaining Bluetooth profiles.

Note: If you're going to use your iPod with this receiver, be sure to check Details for specific iPod model compatibility with this receiver or its optional iPod adapter.

iPhone® 5 Note: You'll need to update this Pioneer receiver to enable Bluetooth control and metadata display for the iPhone 5 or other Apple iOS6 devices. This update requires a laptop with Bluetooth running Windows 7.

Has options to connect rearview camera, GPS navigation, steering wheel radio controls, and with Pioneer cable can show videos from iPhone.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have no complaints with this stereo after reading the manual. I had some issues that I thought were the stereo, but just ended up being operator error. The bluetooth works works, no complaints from me or others on the other end. Used a backup camera with receiver and it works great once it was configured correctly on receiver. Screen has a good picture for the DVD and backup camera. The microphone that came with the stereo is plenty long enough to run the wire from the stereo, under the dash, up the a pillar, along the roof liner and up to the storage compartment/map lights. This was the optimal setup for my 03 Silverado, anywhere else and it picked up to much road noise or distortion for people on other end.

Pros: HD Tuner, Bluetooth, Backup Camera ready, great sound

Cons: Parking Brake Sequence for DVD Operation

    Great buy

Android users, I strongly recommend that you confirm compatibility with your cell phone manufacturer before purchasing this unit.

Pros: Looks and sounds great in my 2005 Nissan Maxima. Easy Bluetooth sync for hands free dialing

Cons: Don't care for the manual layout. Very difficult to sync Bluetooth audio with my HTC Vivid. It connects about 20% of the time. Works like a champ with my wife's iPhone 5.

    2002 Ford Mustang
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This unit worked out perfectly: the way it looks, fits, and functions. I used the installation kit, and put padding on the rails below the head unit to avoid skipping. I have a lowered mustang that really feels the road. There was no way to attach the rear bracket that rides on the rails thus the padding. No skipping! Mounted the microphone behind my steering wheel. So it could be this project turned out BETTER than what professional installers would do ?? All I can say is that I'm way more than pleased with this product. It has excellent sound quality and additional power than most other units. It has an easy to use interface with all the functions I need, and then some...all leading me to say "hey, this thing is better than I thought it would be". Seems like it should cost alot more than this. I'm glad I went with the Pioneer DVD head unit that could receive HD radio. A concern I had was that it would take a long time to index my 16 gig flashdrive full of MP3s. But it does it in 10-15 seconds which is good enough for me.

Pros: Great value. Great sound quality. Everything about it is beautiful to me. Puts a smile on my face LOL.

Cons: Can't say there are any cons but I will say this. If they can make PANDORA work for iPhone why not my Android based HTC? I sense a bias there. Of course, it could still be made to work using the bluetooth function or the auxilliary input (which is on the front of the unit thank goodness).

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Easy to install, clean look, and loads of great features! Most of the features and settings are very easy to figure out from the start. Sound quality is excellent and the picture is as well. I found the DVD's safety setting to be very picky, sometimes the unit doesn't seem to read the signal when the vehicle is in park with the parking brake on and it keeps the screen disabled.

Pros: Great Sound, easy to use, easy to install, and it looks good!

Cons: DVD safety (park brake safety) is temperamental and seems to not work sometimes and refuse to let video show on screen.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Love this head unit. I was debating between a couple different radios and figured I'd call the Crutchfield guys and see what they though of my comparison. A few questions about preference and this seemed like the best fit for me. Man am I glad that I made that call because this radio is exactly what I wanted.

Pros: Added a back up camera which responds quickly with a clear image.

Cons: Pressing the parking brake twice for the DVD to play is bothersome. Single press of the parking brake should be enough.

Lots of color options for the display. Great IPOD integration( as long as you don't stay up to date with Apple updates. I had to reset my IPOD and install an older version. The newest version will keep you from displaying your album artwork on the display). The sound is great.

Pros: Sound , easy use, looks awesome!

Cons: more than I wanted to spend. GM had to include GMOS wire harness for safety chimes and onstar IPOD software discrepancy.

Fantastic head unit with great features. Bluetooth with iPhone 4S and Pandora App worked seamlessly. Wiring harness and install sheet made install a snap! Made the factory speakers sound new again. Amp in head unit much cleaner and more powerful than factory Ford. 3 preamp outputs for amps if needed later.

    Pros: Features, sound quality,

Cons: Terrible Bluetooth upgrade instructions/ firmware upgrade for iOS 6 from Pioneer. Press the wrong button and black screen shows up "image may be reversed" (turn off backup camera if you don't have one installed)

Great head unit, few minor issues.

    1999 Saturn SC1
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I love having this touch and tactile interface unit in my car. Few things though. There is a video out there that leads you to believe you can work around attaching Pioneer's NAV system but just having Pioneer's exclusive cord for iPhones, and iphone and the GPS Motion X app. One problem, yes you can display that app's info and the map, but only while in park! Great variety of settings to make any aftermarket newbie like myself happy, the only thing i wish though is that the picture adjustment setting can be done while driving. Sure you can change the background and theme colors while driving, but not the dimmer option that ranges from 0-+48. You will need +48 during the day, but at night, jeez it's frighteningly bright, and you won't be able to switch it unless you quick engage the parking brake at a red light. I would at least wish for a preset dimness to choose from. I really feel app mode should be able to be done with any regular iPhone cord or generic, but then what do I know maybe there is a coding thing that you need a different cable for, but i don't like having to buy the exclusive cable from Pioneer for it, just seems like a way for them to get more money from you than the base price. Everything else works great. Phone menu is easy as well as switching between sources. great eq for this price and makes my 99 saturn sound great.

Pros: - Great EQ - Very easy to use interface, and phone menu is fantastic. - Good build quality - Pretty responsive touch screen although not the most resolution, but you get what you pay for at this price point. - Everything is very modern and won't get out of date anytime soon.

Cons: - Brightness adjustment hard to get to when you need to. - Can't use your own cord for App mode; must buy pioneer's.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Excellent in-dash head unit. I am very satisfied and now enjoy driving way more. The fact that I have the option to play music wirelessly through the bluetooth or through the usb is great. I also like that is displays album art and song info when using the usb connection. Great quality. The display is very easy to navigate and use. Only 3 days in and I feel like I have learned to use it quite a bit. Lastly, I love how I can search through the albums in my music through the screen. Once your phone is set up, you won't need to pick it up again while driving, I can take phone calls, hear the navigation and music seamlessly.

Pros: Touchscreen, Bluetooth is very clear, easy to use and fun to learn. Brilliant interace. Good bang for your buck. All around good purchase

Cons: If I were to be picky, I'd suggest a volume knob rather than the buttons simply because I'm more accustomed to turning the volume up/down easier with that. Also, wish I could view the navigation screen on the unit. Screen could be a tad bit bigger.

This is a great receiver if you're looking for a step up from factory head unit. The integrated bluetooth works flawlessly with iPhone 4s and 5. Phone calls and music streaming are a breeze and sound great! Install was simple on my 1999 Honda Accord. I have this connected to 5 Way Kenwood 6x9 in the rear and 3 Way 6 1/2s up front. I was simply amazed at the sound quality.

    Pros: Bluetooth integration, simple install

Cons: Menus take some getting used to, I wish there was a setting to have the clock display in a large format WITHOUT the earth in the background, dimming does not control the buttons to the left of the screen (Home).

No SWC but what's the point of the cool h/u if you just use the wheel! I purchased 4 new JL audio speakers a few weeks ago and was pretty disappointed with the sound with my stock radio. After installing this unit I am honestly blown away with how much it improved the sound. Buy this and save a ton with a self install.. The support from crutchfield is great.

I bought this to go in a 2004 Monte Carlo SS and I'm really impressed with all the features. The display on this is really clear and the user interface responds really well too. The only downside so far has been the GMOS-4 adapter. Its messed up and will barely let any sound come through the front speakers. Crutchfield is sending a new one to try and if it doesnt work right, I'll just bypass the speaker connections. That's not the radios fault though.

This unit replaced my Kenwood DNX-8120 ($1500 4 years ago) in a 2005 Tundra quad cab. It is way more user friendly on the road (i.e. while driving) and features a modern interface that is quick to respond. Pros: Colors and themes are excellent w good onscreen layouts HD radio w data display is well layed out iPod control is excellent even w legacy iPod Search functionality is good when searching for songs or phone directory Bluetooth music (A2DP) works great w iPhone 4s (iOS6) after firmware update. Song data and control functions over Bluetooth. Overall sound quality is good with basic sound control only, plenty usable for most setups Startup time to backup camera display time is fast Steering wheel control w Axxess ASWC is lightning fast and worked without programming At this price, I'm very happy w this "upgrade". Cons include: The USB connector is only on front face of radio. I ordered a 90deg USB cable and routed cable back thru faceplate where iPod is hidden in console. Included Pioneer mic is mediocre. My aftermarket mic seems to be better quality but this is typical of most head units. Slightly underpowered amp (pushing 4 aftermarket Polks), could use a bit more drive Pioneer parking brake disfunctionality (some functionality disabled thx to overzealous Pioneer lawyers)

Pros: Modern interface iPod and Bluetooth support HD radio and data display Price

Cons: Slightly underpowered Plastic connectors for mic and remote input are fragile USB on front panel only

    Simply the best!

Can't say enough good things about this unit. It has everything you need and the ability to be added to in the future with GPS, satellite radio, subwoofer, etc. I think one of the neatest features about this unit is the ability to have the backup camera feature come on when in reverse as well as to touch an icon on the screen while driving to check on a trailer or tailgater. The backup camera itself needs to be wired for continuous power for this to work. The head unit has a lead wire to connect to the reverse power under your steering column. Thus, no need to wire the camera itself to the backup lights.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This stereo works great. I installed a Clarion in a 2003 Grand Am because the price was right. That was my first DD with built-in Bluetooth. I wasn't impressed with the BT and how it synked with our average unsmart phones, but my wife and I still loved it because we had nothing to compare it to, plus the new benefit of a stereo that would answer the phone for you was awesome. Having had Pioneer stereos since I was 16 (30 now), I decided to upgrade my wife's new-to-her Monte Carlo to a DD Pioneer with BT. This stereo makes the world of a difference. The ease of navigation and how user-friendly this stereo is just blows me away. We opted to keep the chimes and steering controls, so additional items were needed. Once the right combination of components were installed, everything worked as expected and it only took moments to synk her phone. Keep in mind that we did not install a back-up camera and we don not have Iphones. With that typed, everything works to exceed the needs that we set out to meet. Thank you Pioneer for making great products and thank you Crutchfield for making the purchase and installation of those products so convenient and easy.

Pros: Easily connect your phone via Bluetooth Stereo colors can be changed to match dash illumination Compatable with steering controls Touch screen doesn't slow in sub-freezing weather Touch screen responds with little effort Unit is very expandable for use with back-up cams, amps, and more

Cons: Like many others, I would like a rotary knob for volume. That's really just me being picky.

This is my second Pioneer 3400. I bought one for my hummer and loved it so much that I purchased a second one for my toyota Tundra and for all the features you get and the price you cant go wrong. I has everything you could want if your not expecting to much. But for me it is one of the best Head units I have ever purchased.

I brought my previous headunit from Crutchfield, which I love. But the Pioneer AHV-P3400BH, is a great headunit. In addition to the headunit, I purchased the Pioneer XM. Its a great purchase. I love the new upgrade to my 2007 Dodge Caliber.. Crutchfield is my number one source for do it yourself sound systems.. What I love about 3400 is that I can switch to different audio systems from bluetooth, XM, and HD radio at anytime. Without the use of wires and distractions.. I'm in love with this unit.. You will not go wrong.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Bought this thing using some pre-paid credit cards I got for Christmas from the grandparents. Dexter(guy who took my order by phone) was really helpful when I was going through the order process. The free din-kit, wire harness, and antenna adapter that is included from crutchfield was a god send. Since I was going from my factory radio to this, I would have had to splice in the wires behind the factory harness AND fabricate a way to secure the head unit without leaving gaps in my dash(as the normal components that come with just the radio would have left a 1/2 inch gap all the way around. However with the awesome installation gear and instructions from crutchfield I just had to cap a few wires and it was as close to plug-n-play as you can get with a radio that isn't factory. Whole unit is flush with my dash now, and looks very nice. the pre-amp in the radio has brought new life to my speakers and my car has never sounded better. A few minor instructions in the manual (i.e. favorites and saving stations) was a little confusing but that's Pioneer's fault not CF's.

Pros: *entire radio is a pro, so hard to single them all out ***BIG PRO for VW owners, within the multitude of color options there exists a red that matches the color VW used back in the late 90's/ early 2000's.

Cons: *E-brake sensor for videos would've been a pain to install on my car(due to the fact that the optimal splicing location is beneath my entire shifter assembly in a spot that I can't fit my hand in). However installing it to a random ground point with a toggle/plunger switch was a viable work around and gave me a use for a blank that was in my dash. Now I merely have to toggle the switch off and on again to be able to watch videos or view pictures.

Like all the bells and whistles of this DVD receiver.

Pros: It can even play the DVD audio disc format which did not show in DVD features, Have not hooked up the rear view camera to the unit. Will rate this product again once I have it set up.

Cons: Does not have 5.1 Dolby Digital and DTS output. defeats the sound quality of the DVD audio disc once have to be down converted to 2 channels or 4.1 channels. Cannot display east Asian characters of the media titles. The manual did not mention that have to connect the power antenae wire to the adapter harness. if don't connect this wire, the signal will be degraded, for the antena is built in the wind shield or rear wind shield which receiving signal has to be boosted before fed into the unit.

I got more than what I bargained for...

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This little DVD receiver got the kicks... It has more power than what I expected. The built, quality and design is topnotch. It has plenty to offer like easy connections of a rear view camera, additional video displays, navigation and satellite radio. Combined with the Bose Centerpointe system, watching DVD movies in the car is better than in the theater. Listening to MP3/WMA music files sounds great (thanks to the Sound Retrieval feature). All in all, I was completely satisfied.

Pros: You get more than what you paid for...

Cons: I wish the sound from a selected source would not cut-off as soon as you press the button to switch to another source. Admit it, sometimes we toggle between sources but can not decide immediately which one to select, especially for this unit which gives you lots of options for sources.

This unit fits my 2007 Classic Chevy Silverado-Crew cab perfectly and sounds great. It worked very well with my factory BOSE amplified speakers and Steering Wheel Controls using CRUX SOOGM-15 interface. Since this is my first DIY install, I had problems with no sound coming out of my speakers, I was referred to Crux tech support and they were very understanding and walked me through trouble shooting the problem. It turns out that I missed connecting the blue and white wires from the radio to the interface which powers my BOSE Amplifier. Everything works well after that and my car audio sound fantastic! I'm very happy with my purchase.

Pros: Bluetooth works very well with my HTC thunderbolt steaming music as well as clear phone conversation. Steering Wheel Controls Work well with CRUX interface - Volume, Seek, Program station selection.

Cons: My mute button does not work on my steering wheel. So, I use my steering volume control to turn it down. I no longer have speaker fader control due to the fact that I"m still using my factory BOSE amplifier

I did purchase the XM reciever to add XM to the radio head and it worked flawlessly. If you plug the Iphone 5 lighting cable into the USB, you can listen to and control Pandora from the head.

This is a great unit, just as advertised. I installed this in my 08 F150 (with sub) yesterday and it has worked flawlessly so far. I was looking for a 2 din unit with Bluetooth capabilities and HD radio and this one has fit the bill. My iPhone 5 paired with the unit in seconds (which was a concern in my research). I have been able to stream music, make/accept calls without issue. Most people I talked too couldn't even tell i was calling using the included microphone. The interface is very easy to navigate and I am very pleased with my choice. Kudos to Cruthchfield for all of the included installation equipment. The wiring harness matched up perfectly which made the wiring process much easier and almost self-explanatory. My only complaint is that the trim kit doesn't exactly fit the unit. I spent a lot of time trying to get the angle of the unitvjust right within the dash. Some guidance in this area would have been much appreciated.

Pros: Bluetooth-Works great with my iPhone 5 HD radio (sounds much better than the factory radio)

Unit works great with the components needed for a 2007 VW Jetta. Though the PAC unit did not have the wire harness correctly labeled and I needed 2 wires that where labeled for navigation. But it is easy to hook it up because the wires are all color coded and matches the PAC unit. The factory installed speakers hold out but far from perfect and looking to change them out soon.

Pros: Fast shipment and free! Good packaging The pioneer unit is awesome

Cons: Crutchfield did not offer any dashboard removal tools. I needed to order them separately. For VW Jetta this is a must. Wish Pioneer are upgrading the AV cable for iPhone 5.

Unit has worked perfectly for 2 months. I also bought the optional automatic EQ microphone. I have aftermarket speakers as well as a custom subwoofer install. The auto EQ did not work out for me. The unit performed the function the way it was designed but the EQ curve it came up with was not to my liking. The unit plays very crisp video and the surround sound is perfect. The support staff at Crutchfield is worth more than the unit costs. I am amazed at the level of service that comes from this company. I called 3 or 4 times during the installation and the tech had the right answers every time. I got the same person each time I called and he knew me by name. The stereo works better than I had hoped and the support was awesome.

Pros: Clear powerful sound with very little distortion. Video is worthy of a high def rating. Surround sound is amazing.

Cons: Auto EQ was worthless to me.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

My Accura RSX Type S has the Bose factory system. After doing many hours of investigation I decided to leave it intact and use the SOEM adapter that Crutchfield recommend. This device has pots on it to adjust the power to the Bose amp. I set them at 3/4. Both harnesses were able to be soldered and made up at my work bench. This is were most of the work is and is able to be done inside with a cup of coffee. Installation was a breeze. Old radio came right out, found a home for the SOEM unit all the way in the back behind the radio. Used outdoor double face tape to attach. Connected all the harnesses up and installed the assembly. WOW the sound quality if fabulous coming through the stock speakers. The stock sub even kicks very nicely as well. 10x the quality of the stock radio. I bumped the bass up two notches and it is nice. There are 3 levels of loudness too, and they really kick! The HD radio is clear and of excellent quality as well. Only down fall here is in the DC area they play the same crappy music over and over again. SO much for HD around where I live. Ok, on to what I consider the best feature, bluetooth streaming from my Motorola android phone. WOW~!~ What excellent sound, and great music ALL the time. The phone bluetooth works equally well. In the end as always, you cannot go wrong with this unit and most of all the Crutchfield experience, customer support, and knowledge of what you need for a successful audio upgrade! A very happy customer here. Thank you guys!

Radio is in and working, sounds good but I think a sub wood add a lot to thr sound. would have been nice to see details on sub dash mods needed. Plastic area the radio slides into needs to be expanded in hieght a little. A dremel with a drum sandig bit did good on this. The metal bracket that supports the radio was a little more challenging. This backet also needed to be taller. Getting to it was difficult. Was able to use a small ajustable wrench to bend it back some then used a block of would and a fat bar to bend it open the rest of the way. Got it to fit in snug and finished look is good.

Pros: Nice that the phone book sinks to the radio and the menues are faily easy to nav.

Cons: So for I don't think voice activation will work with the iPhone 4s.

I added satellite and I haven't used all of the source options yet, but everything works. I wish Pioneer/Crutchfield had published more about the parking brake interlock which disables some functions until you do a little dance to let the unit know you are parked. That aside, I would recommend this unit.

Bought this for my 16-year old son for Christmas and he loves it. I like the blue tooth phone connection and backup camera. He likes the HD radio, blue tooth audio streaming and USB interface for placing iPod. Excellent features for the money. I wanted safety of backup camera that automatically turns on when vehicle is in reverse; only glitch is display does not change back to last selected mode after using backup camera--you have to touch the screen and turn backup camera off--music keeps playing though. Recommend buying the steering wheel control and warning alert interfaces--definitely worth the money!!! You'd otherwise spend hours soldering inside the dash or using poor wire nuts. Install required cutting out plasic behind OEM radio--took 5 minutes with Dremel tool; free plastic mounting bracket from Crutchfield sucks and is not worth the price--you'll spend more time figuring it out than it's worth to get a free one.

Pros: Numerous features for the money; HD radio is nice.

Cons: Backup camera display does not automatically change back to last selected display when you take vehicle out of reverse (have to touch screen and select camera off). Must reset parking brake to watch video (no big deal); better than my 16-year old trying to watch video while driving.

I purchased this for my wife's Mazda5. Once I finished the install, she sat in the car to listen to the improvement and review some of the features with me. She is not an audiophile like I am, but when she heard this (even with the factory 6x8s) she was very impressed. The only complaint she has it that the user interface could be simplified. She believes it will just take a little time to get familiar with it. Pioneer's website has some helpful short clips to learn how to use some of the functions. Really pleased with the sound quality!

Pros: Excellent sound quality, even with factory speakers!

Pioneer AVH-P3400BH is an excellent replacement unit for those who want it all (no built NAV - it's optional but expensive). It's touch screen, everything is clearly layout and easy to use without consulting the manual. Looks good and sounds great!...what even better is that it play DVD! You can watch movie while waiting for your wife/kids/mother-in-law at the shopping mall (assuming you don't want to spend 3 hours in the Macy's store). Blue tooth works flawlessly with iPhone 4s and its mic is crystal clear (that is what people told me when I placed a call to them). Installed in in my CRV 2003 I am very happy with it!

Pros: Looks great, sounds great, Bluetooth works, DVD works, touch screen is responsive, easy to use, and fair price for under $350.00

Cons: I can't really think of any yet...maybe the mic should be built into the unit instead of being external(?) where you have to mount it somewhere on the dash. I also think the NAV should be a little cheaper than what it is priced at the moment ($100 should be fair since you can get stand alone Garmin for $100)

awesome unit. Few complaints - Background illumination doesnt not seem to be dimming with my truck interiors ( which isnt too big of a deal though cause you can turn off the screen with the mode button if you dont want it to be illuminated) and the font / graphics are a bit gaudy or dated. I would like look of the graphics to be a bit more high end looking. these look a little immature or something . cant really put my finger on what they look like, but they just dont scream high end. But, overall function; its awesome. Bluetooth works well, dvd is great, HD radio comes in clear, but cumbersome interface. Difficult to save stations and scan for new stations. The fit kit that came with it from Crutchfield looks great in my tacoma and went together really well. Overall a great stereo for the money.

Pros: great function and fit everything works well. blue tooth paired very easily.

Cons: graphics are a bit childish. radio interface is a bit clunky.

Installed as a Christmas gift in my son's 2004 S-10 Blazer 4 door (along with Polk db651s Speakers) and love it! The bluetooth synced with his Verizon HTC Thunderbolt and allows him to wirelessly throw Pandora radio as well as hos stored MP3 files to the head unit seamlessly. Not all Pandora features function wirelessly such as the like/dislike songs from the head unit, but you can grab the phone and kick on Pandora and it comes out wonderfully over the stereo. The touch screen works great and the user interface is quick to learn. I wish the radio companies would get with the program and try to better integrate with the Android operating system. So many people have Android phones compared to the Apple products. I will not buy into the Apple franchise, please integrate both families of devices into your operating system so that more customers can choose the stereo without being forced to try to find the few that will work with the OS of choice. Overall, we are very happy with this stereo and would highly recomend Pioneer DVD Head units.

Pros: Android BT music integration Selectable colors for hardware button area Selectable colors for screen borders and text Selectable live and static wall papers Sound Quality Increased sound levels over factory Built in adjustable high and low bandpass features Subwoofer dedicated RCA outs Screen brightness Hands free cell phone

Cons: HTC Thunderbolt Phonebook does not sync to radio. You must pick up phone while driving to look up a number. Not as Android freindly as I would like. The Iphone/Ipod users get all the love. RCA out voltage is lower than you would prefer, but this is a feature rich yet lower cost model. Above this level ytou get the higher RCA output votage for your aplifiers.

Gat unit overall, not as cool as newer x3500 but better value due it's compatibility with iPhone5 with regular lightning cable. I originally purchased x3500, and liked it but returned it due to lack of compatibility with iPhone 5. P3400 doesn't have as nice graphics, nor does it display album art from hd stations but works with iPhone5. Sound is great, works with steering wheel maestro unit on my Subaru, power subwoofer, Bluetooth is seamless, unit is very easy to navigate through without manual. I would have preferred to have a rear USB, but for 329 delivered together with installation gear p3400 is hard to beat.

Best of all we used Crutchfields InstallCard and had an excellent Tech who had it installed in 40 minutes and went over all the features with my son, this was well worth the cost. With Crutchfield you get all the costs up front and their staff is very knowlegable to answer any questions. Easy to install, it sounds awesome, I have no complaints, the HD radio is far better than the old JVC we had which would cut in and out and skip all over the place, this one blends it flawlessly. The sound quality of the Pioneer is far better than the newer model dual din JVC I pulled out, and the custom EQ is very nice.

Pros: Easy to use, and easy to install

    Cons: none noticed at all

I just finished installing this unit into my 2006 Tundra. Looks great though a little short on the ends that the extra frame does not cover but still looks good and extremely easy to install. Thanks to Crutchfield for all the instructions online for what items were necessary to purchase and all the extras sent with all my items. Truly excellent service!

    Pros: Easy install and setup

Cons: Just a little short on the ends in dash space.

Pros: Has a lot of audio adjustments, paired to our phones easily and the quality of the hands free phone were great.

Cons: Have to have a separate LCD screen to be able to see the factory XM channels and info. when you use access CMOS adapter. The screen is a little bright at night, but I need to go back and check the book.

My first purchase of a DVD receiver. Great unit and easy to install in my 1998 Infiniti I-30. Needed some help from customer support with wires that were not clearly listed on the wiring diagram. I bought the factory integration adapter which made the install easier. Adjusted the integration adapter volume almost to the minimum and this unit can still crank up the volume louder than I could ever want. I love the bluetooth and the display dimmer (dims down gradually when you turn your lights on like my flat panel TV in the house). Probably will not watch DVD movies but my kids think it is cool. Has bluetooth audio, but sound quality is reduced so I would rather use the front panel USB. I am considering buying an identical unit for my wife's car.

Pros: Easy install, powerful unit, great sound, bluetooth phone, touchscreen functions, controls factory amp and power antenna,

Cons: Adjustable illumination - found a color to match my dashboard lights but unit's illumination is noticeably brighter that my dashboard. Small price to pay for getting to choose the color. Sometimes I select the option to let the unit change through all of the colors by itself.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

First off, the sound is great. The unit replaced my factory installed Bose in my G35. I wanted a double din unit that I could use to display apps from my iphone 4 (specifically maps, Pandora, Netflix). That said, I don't anticipate using the video feature a whole lot now. The blue tooth feature works great for sound and the front connecting cord is WAY too cumbersome for normal use (video requires cord). I would recommend upgrading to a more friendly head unit if you plan on using video. If video is not a feature you need, you can probably find a much less expensive single din unit that sounds just as good.

Pros: Sound and blue tooth are great Microphone for bluetooth calling works awesome

Cons: As mentioned in other reviews, the radio feature is underwhelming. Song and station information is standard on even the cheapest models, why not this one? Front connecting USB is terrible. Contacts are listed alphabetically by first name, although by last name in my iphone

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The unit was very easy to install, and operation is intuitive. The manual is not the best in the world, but you'll have the operation figured out by yourself without it. I was unsure about the wiring harness connections at first, but the Crutchfield advisors explained everything. The C2R-FRD1/SWI-RC has all the connections needed - no need to attach anything to existing vehicle wiring in my application. Just did some soldering the night before, and swapped out the connections. This unit sounds noticeably better than the factory unit, and the fit is great. I am disappointed about two things. First, the Pandora app ONLY supports iPhone. My Android device is ignored by it. Second, the illumination wire seems pointless as the brightness level does not adjust. Perhaps I connected poorly, but I am pretty sure my solder connection was solid.

Pros: Intuitive interface, great sound and features.

Cons: No direct Android support on Pandora.

This receiver does Bluetooth RIGHT and did not disappoint. I purchased it along with an Axxess steering wheel adapter for my 2010 Subaru WRX and wanted them all to integrate with my Windows 7 phone. Well it worked FLAWLESSLY. I can control my phone from the steering wheel or head unit (skip to next song / make calls) and it displays song information on the display. When you turn the car off, the music stops on the phone. Turn the car on and it picks up where it left off. It makes your phone work like it's part of the receiver. Very nice! I imagine any phone that has the proper Bluetooth profiles would function similarly. The sound is better than the stock unit and the HD receiver and DVD player is great to have too.

Pros: Slick Bluetooth integration, great sound, nice display.

Cons: Doesn't display album art from phone. It's also considerably smaller than the stock unit leaving large gaps that even the provided filler panel doesn't cover. You'll need to purchase an additional panel to fix this.

I bought this unit to replace the Shaker 500 6 CD unit that was in my 2006 Mustang GT convertible. I was getting a CD Error so I figured it was a good time to replace it with a unit that had all the features of this one. The Pioneer unit came with all the needed instructions, adapters, etc. for my car, thanks to Crutchfield. I installed it myself in about 4 hours. I'm very satisfied with this Pioneer unit. Setup is fairly easy, the reception of the FM radio improved compared to the factory unit and the sound quality is much much better than the old unit. People that have seen it in my car so far are surprised I installed it myself, and most agree it looks like a factory fit. The DVD player works great. Don't have too many HD Radio stations here but the few we have sound very good, and even the regular FM stations sound much better and more clear.

Pros: High quality unit, plenty of features for the price... just about everything I needed minus a NAV system (which I don't need with GPS on my phone). Great quality sound. Menus and controls are pretty easy to figure out. Like the ability to change the display themes and the colors of the buttons and background of the display. Like the front USB port, makes it easy to connect/disconnect my iPod. DVDs look great. Like the ability to add XM, backup cameras, etc. later if I want.

Cons: Wouldn't mind a knob to turn the volume up and down on the unit itself a little more easily, but my Mustang doesn't have steering wheel controls so if you put this in a car that does have that it isn't a big deal.

The iPod interface did not work. And it had no phone connectivity ability. The Pioneer has everything and more that I need for my daily commutes. More powerful than the stock unit, this thing rocks the stock speakers without distortion. I'm not a young twenty something anymore, so I was just looking for a little technology upgrade for the car. Nice Receiver! Bluetooth works well with the Motorola Razor Maxx. Installed the Alpine HCE-C104 Rear View Camera, PAC SWI-RC Steering Wheel Radio Control Interface. The camera works fairly nice for the money. The SWI-RC works well as long as you follow the installation instructions to the tee. Don't use the Tap splices for the SWI-RC wire connections. I did, and it wouldn't program properly. Thanks to the Crutchfield tech support, they told me to solder splice the wires and the dam thing worked. One other thing for the receiver harness wire connections, don't forget to solder the blue/white stripe wire (Power antenna), which is also for the antenna amp to the blue/white (amplifier turn on wire). I thought Power Antenna was for a motorized antenna. This advice will help for better station reception. Other than my screw up's, the installation went well for my first time.

Pros: Easy to use controls, Bluetooth syncs and pairs easily. HD sounds great!

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

An excellent receiver! I replaced my 2003 Tundra's factory stereo with this nice unit, and am very happy overall. Best of all, even without an external amp or a sub-woofer the sound is a huge improvement over the factory unit (with replacement Kicker brand door speakers installed at the same time). The touch screen works great, and the controls are fairly simple. The "knob" for volume is actually not a rotating knob, but a press (or press and hold) for volume up, or down. I prefer a knob, but this works fine. I also installed a Pioneer rear view camera with this unit (ND-BC5), and that works very well. The back-up cam turns on within about 1.5 seconds once you shift into reverse (even if the receiver is off). You can also activate the back up cam at any time via the receiver, which overrides the "reverse gear" input--useful for positioning a trailer hitch. My only complaint is the instruction manual, which has an annoying habit of "round robin" directions. Example: the manual never explains how to actually SET a favorite phone # in one of the 6 available presets. Page 34 under displaying the preset dial screen, it says see Using the Preset Dial Lists, page 54. On pg 54 under that heading, step one says to display the preset screen, then "refer to intro to bluetooth operations, pg 34," then goes on to tell you how to CALL a number which is already in presets! Note: to set a preset phone # in Favorites, go to that phone # (in address book), touch and hold it.

Pros: Nice touch screen, excellent sound, customizable EQ settings (2 custom settings), ability to accept rear-view camera inputs

    Cons: poorly written operations manual.

This radio was listed as a modified fit. I installed this unit into a 2001 Ford Explorer Sport with the Mach Radio System ( Meaning it had a factory sub. ). The install was very easy. The only modification needed was to trim off the upper and lower plastic lips on the radio fascia. Did not received the Subwoofer harness with my unit. Called tech support and was chastised for not selecting the Mach radio on their question of type of radio. There were only 2 options that I could select and Mach Radio was not one of them ( so if you have the Mach radio call them to place your order and let them know you need the sub harness ). They did send me the subwoofer harness within a couple of days. Radio looks great and as if it came with the vehicle. It took a little learning on programing the radio presets. Other than that setup is very easy.

    Some Odd Quirks

    Jim from NYC on 9/27/2012

I recently installed this Audio system into my Audi A4 Cabrio {Convertible} which had Bose speakers already installed. I've had a few issues with the cellphone bluetooth microphone picking up wind noise while driving at highway speeds but my prior Volvo C70 convertible was much worse noise wise and certainly I cannot blame Pioneer for the extra noise versus a hardtop. Again, as has been mentioned in prior reviews, with such a large screen in many cases using Sirius e.g. the screen displays very limited information. My biggest concern thus far is my iPhone has 1,500 plus contacts for work purposes. The Pioneer only imports? lists my contacts through letters A-G. So should someone named Andy call the display shows the info, should Mark call, it just displays the phone number. Somewhat frustrating considering how cheap memory is and how tiny a contact file likely is. I have a 2012 Passat TDI and all my contacts show up with OEM stereo plus it has voice dialing. I'm still getting used to the system but it isn't the most intuitive unit I've dealt with.

    Pros: Nice sweet sound.

Cons: Radio stations tend to fade and have static. Obviously the display is under utilized as limited information is displayed. Plus it only imported about 30% of my contacts into address book. No voice dialing

I have had this unit since June and at first thought it was everything the reviews have said. I loved the bluetooth feature of being able to control my iPhone with the unit, view videos and pics from my phone on the unit, backup camera is awesome, etc. etc. HOWEVER-as of last week I can no longer control my phone with the unit with the Blutetooth connection. Can't forward/reverse a song, can't pause/play, music doesn't start automatically anymore. Ever since I updated to the iOS 6. A co-worker has the model above this one and his has stopped functioning also. Ignorance is bliss-just drove a basic rental car this past weekend and all I did was enter the code to make the connection and I could operate everything on my iphone via Blutetooth. (So it is not a problem with the new iOS!!) Even the full artist data and artwork appeared on the rental car screen while playing music. All you get on the Pioneer is "No Data Available". Since this unit was my first experience with all this technology i thought this was normal. NO! This unit is complicated to set up and appears to be lacking basic "skills". I called Pioneer about the problem and the tech tried his phone on a unit and told me to have patience until "they decide to develop a firmware update or Apple sends out a push or OS update" and I should have patience since this wont happen anytime soon. Another problem is the USB is mounted vertically and has a sloppy fit so the connection is constantly lost due to a loose cord.

Pros: Backup camera operation. Great sound.

Cons: Cannot control via Bluetooth connection with new iOS. USB connection is loose fitting and connection is frequently lost. Minimal data display when in Blutooth.

    JohnD from Indiana on 9/12/2012

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Plenty of reviews say all the nice things about this unit, but there were a few areas that were lacking. Sound Quality - doesn't sound particularly full unless you use the EQ. I prefer a stereo that sounds great with a flat EQ, so while you can get this stereo to sound great, it may not be that way out of the box. HD Radio - even older HD radios will show you what is playing on your presets so you can look at your presets and see what all your favorite stations are playing. Apparently not this one. It's possible NONE of the stations are broadcasting the data, but I was very surprised that my presets don't show what is playing. CD - this radio does NOT display CD-Text from store-bought CDs, which seems ridiculous. That's 1990's technology. I have a big beautiful screen to work with, and it is blank except a ridiculously small number indicating which track number is playing. I wrote Pioneer and they said none of their 2012 radios display CD-Text, just mp3 data. USB - does not display folders in alphabetic order, then shows albums in reverse alpha order, and then songs in alpha order. Very strange. No way to change the order, and no way to search using the BUILT IN (!) alphabet-search. Does not display album art. Big beautiful screen sits blank on the right side. XM - does not show what's playing on presets. No way to advance channels through just your presets. no way to navigate by categories. These seem like really lazy, simple shortfalls to a potentially great stereo.

Pros: Looks nice, decent price, good screen

Cons: It seems Pioneer just skimped on simple things that we take for granted, like CD-Text, and that mp3 players should show album art, and that if you have an alphabet search function it should work with USB folders, not just with ipod. And that the USB drive should be able to sort folders, search by artist/album/song, or play a standard playlist. It's just not the 21st-century radio that I thought it was.

This radio replaced an Eclipse CD5030. I thought that radio sounded pretty good, but this Pioneer sounds SO much better that it feels like my old one is a no name brand from a department store. The only thing that I really don't like is that when you listen to Satellite radio, you only get one line of text. I haven't been able to find any way to change this. A 5.8 inch screen and only 1 line of text?!?! It took a little while to figure out how to save the presets and it doesn't show the channel name for the presets. It just shows preset 1 - 6. I guess most radios are like that, but with the screen real estate on this one, I guess I was expecting a little more. The HD radio reception is lacking a little I think, but I got this radio more for the Bluetooth connectivity and the Sirius capabilities. I love the radio so far though!!!

Pros: Great sound, compatible with older Satellite radio tuners, Bluetooth. It works with my Thunderbolt.

Cons: Only one line of text when listening to Satellite radio, cheaper and smaller radios have more lines of text. The screen can disappear in sunlight.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

BEWARE, if you are buying this stereo for an RV, enclosed trailer, or boat (as in my case). First, the unit has a parking brake "toggle" feature, which means that if you want to watch video, you have to sequentially engage, disengage, and re-engage the parking brake for the video screen to activate... easily done in a vehicle, but if you don't have a parking brake to connect to, then you'll have to get creative with extra switches in order to trick the unit into operation. This is a real pain to deal with! Second, using a zip-drive with the USB input is problematic on my unit. The first USB device I connected seems to have "imprinted" some of its material into the memory of the receiver. No matter what other USB device we install, the receiver continues to show the same information that was in the first USB, as if it cached the information somehow. Not a big deal, as we won't be using the USB feature too often... it was just a matter of convenience that we tried to use it. Overall, the operation of the tuners and the DVD player are outstanding. Crisp, clear video and great sound make this a great centerpiece for a basic "home-theater" style entertainment system... on the go! Just beware of the operational proclivities if you are using it in a mobile environment outside of the traditional automobile!

Pros: Fantastic operation! Looks great and performs well. The touchscreen is really well done and intuitive.

Cons: Parking Brake activation USB operation (using a zip-drive) is problematic

The radio is great just like everyone has said, the HD Radio does not impress me as any better than another FM station. I would not have tried installing it myself except for the detailed support material and product support from Crutchfield. The general installation was pretty simple but tedious when connecting 11 sets of different wires with small wire caps. Lessons learned from my experience: 1. A trim tool is recommended for releasing the car trim panels, but a small drywall spreader works well. 2. Before you place the radio near the installation area, ensure there is a protective film on the face of your unit to prevent scratches during the installation process. 3. There is a wire called "MUTE" coming out the back of the unit, if your car doesn't have a matching wire for this (I assume a steering wheel mute button), tape it up to prevent any inadvertent contact with body panels and accidental activation of the MUTE function that will not respond to button pushes. 4. The extra trim panel for the Double Din was below average in appearance, the instructions were not clear on orientation of the black face frame (top, bottom, rear, front) and it created clearance issues if incorrectly oriented when trying to reattach the auto trim panels.

Pros: Bluetooth, touchscreen for use with smartphone music sources. With extra cable hooked between Iphone and unit, the ability to repeat map navigation displays. Crutchfield is incredible, good bye Best Buy!

It streams bluetooth from my android phone without any issues, but the bluetooth calling is not working correctly-my callers can't hear me through the installed mic, but I can hear them fine. I have to say I have not called tech support yet on this issue, so it very well could be an easy fix. I didn't need any GPS in my stereo, I use a portable Garmin for GPS; I travel a lot and use it when I travel, why have it tied to my deck? Not worth it.

Pros: Looks outstanding, actually intuitive for the most part, I had to read the manual to figure out what some of the icons meant/did, but for the most part, its easy to figure out.

Cons: I agree with some other reviews that it is really frustrating that a stereo of this quality and functionality will not allow you to change the names of your stored stations, or at the very least, display the frequency instead of the call letters (which it does for most of mine). In 2-3 cases it does display rolling text that is related to what is being played which is even more annoying. I also think this deck should have a rear usb input at this price point, but the front usb works fine.

What a shame that a deck with so many cool features has to be dragged down by a horrible tuner. I live with in 17 miles of NYC where you can pick up 100 stations on a coat hanger and this radio struggles to hold reception of the strongest stations available. My truck has had Kenwood ,JVC and sony decks in it and has NEVER had any reception issues. I even took the truck in to the professionals to have my wiring rechecked and was told "The tuners suck in the new Pioneer head units and it is wired correctly". My other friend have Alpine Hd radios that sound great and never drop the signal. This deck cant hold the HD signal in the parking lot of the radio staions transmitter. I listen to music on USB and sirius mostly so it is not worth the hassle to pull it out and return it. Plus the sound is awesome and all other features work great. If you listen to FM radio a lot then run from this unit at any price and get a Alpine or Kenwood !!!

Pros: Syncs with iphone great. Hands free calling a pleasure. Great sound Quality

This unit provides you with all of the connectioin and entertainment functionality you could ever need. I already have the highest end TomTom you can buy for navigation so I didn't want to buy a unti with navigation already installed. I wanted blu tooth audio streaming, hands free calling, Pandora control for my iPhone and satellite radio and I have all of these and much more. I personally feel the controls are very intuitive. It's easy to flip between sources and the display is very clear and has a nice matte finish so as not to be too reflective on the sunny days. I drive 50,000 miles a year with my job and this unit has made all of those miles much more enjoyable. The DVD playback looks nice as well and thanks to the steering wheel adapter it all feels factory fresh. I understand the preset name or lack there of a name complaint but that's very minor.

Pros: Blu tooth audio streaming, Pandora, Satellite, HD radio and much more.

    Cons: No Preset names.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

A couple of quirks with learning the new interface but LOVE THE RADIO!!!!!!!!! Sounds is great. Display is great. The bluetooth pairing process is a little unintuitive but was eventually able to pair it up. Had some issues with the Honda adapter frame. I think they need to ship two so when you mess up the first one, you have a backup. The tabs it said to leave on prevented the frame from properly fitting into the space. I broke off a few more tabs and now it "fits" but won't stay completely installed. Eventually I'll fasion some type of retainer so it rests properly over the radio.

Pros: Crutchfield Support is awesome!!! First and foremost this is why you spend money with a particular company. Blew a fuse and had no clue where the other fuse boxes were in my CR-V. Tech Support steered me under the hood and it was right where he said. Otherwise I'd be off to the shop and paid for them to find it.

Cons: Don't like the way it stores favorites. First, you would think the star on the main page is favorites but it's actually the magnifying glass. Star is something I personally find useless (settings favorites). Also, when it stores the station, it changes the label as the RDS/HD text cycles. So intead of it saying "104.3FM" or the call letters, it may change to part of the song title. Still need to resolve some harness wires but ran out of time installing the radio. Project for another weekend.

    Love it!

My standard Bose system sounds better now because I have better control of the EQ now. I knew there was some bass to be found in that system. Calls come in crystal clear and pairs really well with my Iphone. Seriously.... Cannot go wrong with this unit.

Pros: HD radio is a nice touch. Phone connects every time and quickly. Crutchfield support was great help when I need answers.

As usual, Crutchfield's instructions made the removal of the old unit and installation of the new unit very easy and methodical. Their higher prices are worth it, when you consider the ease that the wiring harnesses, adapter kits and instruction sets add. The radio is a very nice fit, sounds excellent and looks good in place. The drawbacks are that you can only load one CD and their are way too many extra "bells and whistles." Overall, though, we are very pleased with the replacement.

Pros: Crutchfield instructions, wiring harnesses and adapter kits.

Cons: The touchscreen is way too busy and you can only load one CD at the time.

The only issue is when I hang up the phone while using Bluetooth - there is a loud noise that tells me I have ended the call. Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I've only had it for a couple of days, but this receiver is great. The sound is excellent- highs and lows. HD radio comes through clear as CD sound. And the Bluetooth is excellent. I've played a movie on it to test it and it looks good as well- although I would not use this as my movie viewing platform. I had a couple of issues installing in my 99 Toyota Landcruiser. Once we had it installed their was a constant feedback noise that was present when the engine was on. We tried putting a filter on, but it didn't work. Eventually we just bypassed the factory amp completely and now it works great with no feedback.

Pros: Sound. Plethora of musical options. Works seamlessly with my iPhone 4S. Bluetooth. Screen.

Cons: So many buttons sometimes it's hard to find what I am looking for. Setup took a little longer than expected with my particular car. HD/Analog radio buffering sometimes results in word/sound repeated when first enter a station.

    Excellent Buy (2008 Toyota Matrix)

Donabed from Escondido, CA on 6/14/2012

I bought this on impulse from a walk-in electronics store, and wow! This unit made the stock speakers seem more lively and less distorted than the factory unit, which is crazy because I figured the speakers were the bottleneck ... apparently not. My Matrix came with the base 4 speaker stereo as well, now I just need to save money for good components, amps, and a sub to really see the head unit's potential (loving the 8-band equalizer as opposed to the older 5-band or bass/treble system). The install took me about 3 hours, but I heatshrunk all wiring from the harness adapter to the Pioneer harness and actually tore apart my interior to properly route the e-brake lead while keeping it hidden under the interior carpet (because anybody that defeats this and watches movies while driving I would NOT want next to me on the road, and having a movie playing for a passenger is a distraction for the driver, I know I couldn't help but look at the movie). I also drilled into the dashboard to mount the microphone since putting it on the sunvisor wouldn't make sense since the microphone would be worthless driving during dawn or dusk. I'll write back and see how long the microphone lasts on the dashboard in the sun but I imagine it should be fine provided I don't park my car in Death Valley, facing South, for 2 weeks straight during a hot spell.

Pros: 1. Bluetooth calling is crystal clear for both parties. 2. So many options as far as playing music goes, so many inputs, you can't lose. 3. Can make colors match factory lighting in the car (buttons anyway, but the display color themes oughta work with most cars). 4. In MP3 media the radio will play where you left off in the song, the stock Blaupunkt stereo in my old Focus would start the song over.

Cons: 1. DVD-R MP3 indexing takes long, and in this day and age there is no reason why indexing shouldn't be stored in RAM until the disc is removed or the battery is unplugged. 2. Button lights need a brightness setting, they overpower the other lighting near it (for A/C, etc.). I'll get used to it, just the OCD in me.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

When I purchased this unit, I wasn't sure what I was getting myself into. To me, it was lot of money to spend on a head unit. Surprisingly, you get a lot of bang for your buck. There are enough options on this unit to make almost any system sound great! It has subwoofer controls. It has low and high pass filters. It has loudness controls. It has an EQ. So many ways to shape your sound! Then you get into the other features. Touch screen. USB port. Aux input. Bluetooth audio streaming. Bluetooth phone calls. XM/Sirius. Backup camera input. There's a ton really cool features under the hood of this thing! It was the most complicated install I have ever done, but it was well worth it.

Pros: Very cool. Lots of ways to shape sound. Powerful enough to play over road noise. Lots of inputs and outputs. Great array of source options (AM/FM, CD, DVD, XM, HD radio, USB, AUX). Lots of ways to expand a system.

Cons: Manual sucks!!! It jumps around from topic to topic, or all together does not cover the topic. You will be calling Crutchfield with install and operation questions.

I went through several receivers from Crutchfield before I had this one. This one is the best, all functions work as advertised. Steering wheel controls, Bluetooth, etc. I can't say the same for the others. Sound quality is excellent. HD radio reception is very good, with very little switching between digital and analog stations while driving. The equalizer control is very easy to use. The parametric type used on other receivers are difficult to set. I especially like the big digital clock display. Touch sensitivity on the screen is just right for me. My only complaint would be the lack of voice dialing, which is the reason for 4 stars on "Ease of Use". That is pretty much made up for by the ability to load the phone book from my iPhone. Bluetooth audio streaming works very well, as it always reconnects when returning to the car, something the others don't do very well. This unit was installed in a 2012 Chevy Traverse with the GMOS100 interface.

    Pros: Bluetooth, Sound Quality, Display

    Cons: Lack of voice dialing

Just installed unit yesterday but initial impressions about the AVH-P3400 BH are very positive. This appears to be an excellent HU and top value for the $$. My comments are primarily about installation in '03 Sierra with 7-speaker Bose: Contrary to what Crutchfield says about the fit in this vehicle, you must cut out a portion of the plastic support structure for the OEM radio inside the dash. I suggest reading installation modification note that Crutchfield does have for the AVH-P4400 BH, which I suspect is the same size. Also, I find the Bose speakers now seem to be overpowered by this unit and distort well before maximum volume of the new HU is reached, so be prepared to buy new speakers etc to fully appreciate the Pioneer.

Pros: Great HU with more features than you'll probably ever use at an excellent price and, in my experience, typical Pioneer top quality. All features worked within

Cons: No cons about the unit. Only the above comments about the install and the possible need for better speakers, etc.

I purchased this from Crutchfield:. As far at the head unit: Installed in 2005 Avalanche, with steering wheel controls and Audiovox rear camera: ps: if anybody needs help with how to install in an avalanche I can provide advice. Fits very well, the camera was a install challenge but I put it in the latch bezel and it looks real cool and works great. Overall the unit is great for the price, Just wish Pioneer spent more time programming Iits JUST programming) and provided more choices for turning on and off screen images and text, the color choices work soso, some combinations revert to purple for some reason and that spells lack of testing on pioneers part. would like to see them fix that.

Pros: 1)Nice glare free screen 2)Bluetooth works great, fast connection and sounds excellent 3)Hands-free Phone function works very well with good sound and mic picks up voice well 4)iphone App mode works as advertised, very nice, sorry Android users tough luck... 5)Sounds is great 6)Menu functions well thought out 7)Rear camera fires up quickly and functions great, image quality is a function of the camera and not the headunit, the audiovox unit is a very nice picture, grainy at night but ok.

Cons: 1)Would like to turn off the track/sound feature, some stations don't broadcast that and it sucks to have "No Data provided" constantly displayed, wake up pioneer! 2)Would like to turn off more screen text its kinda cluttered, you can do some, with the upper right corner button, but not enough 3)Unit should have a "low" volume setting that it reverts to everytime it is powered up 4)When you use search preset menu, after choosing a station it should automatically close after a timeout period.

Very good, all-around, head unit. Perfect for people who don't need GP

This is my first head unit upgrade and the first time I ever installed one as well. I drive a Mazda 3, so I had to mount it using a dash kit. It fit pretty well. Anyway, getting out of Demo mode was pretty easy. It pretty much hits the ground running once that is over with. Audio sounds great and the onboard EQ is not bad at all. Also has a high pass feature, bass boost, and other stuff. Of course, HD Radio works as expected. Bluetooth audio doesn't lag, although I've yet to test it with an AVRCP device yet. The included Bluetooth mic works fairly good after you turn the volume all the way up on it. It's compatible with the Axxess ASWC adapter, although Mute doesn't actually Mute, it just cuts the volume in half. To watch videos, you must have the vehicle in park. It plays most of my AVI files with no issue, although it had trouble reading them from my phone's storage right away. DVD playback is fine. It is also customizable in some ways. The LED illumination, background image, and theme color can all be changed. All in all though, a very solid head unit. Plays everything just fine and audio sounds great. Unless you need GPS, you can't go wrong with this.

Pros: Sounds are great Plays AVI (Divx encoded) files Supports steering wheel controls adapter Bluetooth doesn't lag Very configurable EQ

Cons: Has a lot of features that only support iPhones/iPods (I.e. Pandora). Total lack of native Android support. Requires parking brake to be engaged to watch video. UI is a bit laggy and doesn't seem as refined or user friendly as you'd expected modern electronics to be. Video in direct sunlight is not good. Anti-glare material is required.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Just installed this unit in my 2007 Ford Expedition EL last week. So far, I'm really liking it. Great overall unit with excellent sound. I took one star away from Sound Quality due to the radio reception. The reception is not as good as the stock Ford head unit. The HD Radio has been a bit of a letdown, not quite the drastic difference I had anticipated, and at least where I am in a somewhat distant suburb of Los Angeles, as reception drops, it switches back and forth from analog to HD, which is a significantly audible difference and pretty distracting. It doesn't happen all the time, but enough that I notice it. The Bluetooth performance has been excellent, with all calls being clearly audible on both ends. I even mounted the mic fairly low by the driver's right knee, but my callers have been able to hear both front seat passengers clearly and even the rear passenger could be heard. My favorite feature of this unit is the iPod control. It's so nice to plug in the iPod and then easily control everything directly through the touch screen of the unit. You can easily browse all of your music just like you would on your iPod or iPhone. You can browse by playlist, artist, album, genre, etc. When going through the lists of content, you can either swipe your finger up and down the list, click on the up/down arrows above/below the scroll bar, or click on the ABC icon to navigate directly to the letter you want to browse. I also took away a star from Ease of Use due to the menu icons and abbreviations being fairly confusing at first, and requiring you to constantly refer to the manual to decipher their meanings. Not a huge deal, because it's just bad in the beginning, but won't affect my long-term enjoyment of this unit. Would have been nice to have a rear USB input, but I wasn't willing to pay the extra to get the 4400 model that includes it. I did order a right angle USB adapter that doesn't stick out very far at all and then has the cord drop straight down. This keeps the head unit looking relatively tidy despite the plugged-in iPod. I am running this unit with a Rockford Fosgate Prime 600 Watt 5 Channel Amplifier, Polk DB 6.5-Inch 2-Way Components in the front doors, Infinity Kappa 6"x8" coaxials in the rear doors, and a 10" Alpine Type S sub in a sealed box in the cargo area. Very happy with this complete system

I have had the unit for about 10 days. So far I am quite happy with the unit. Easy to install. Some features are intuitive, some are not. Some I have not yet used.

Pros: Easy to install, clear sound, works well.

Cons: I agree with other reviewers that the white stickers on the black bezel need to go. I removed them. No more cons.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Highly recommend this unit as it has everything you could want in a 2-DIN DVD. The AVH-P3400BH replaced my OEM stereo in my '09 Toyota Rav4. I originally wanted to purchase the AVH-P2400BT but at the time of purchase was on back order so I opted for this one. The value is alright, although I don't think the $50 price difference between the two units is worth the HD Radio. The sound quality is amazing. I was thinking of upgrading my stock speakers with this install, but waited until I heard how the unit sounded...and WOW!! There's no need to replace the speakers as they sound amazing. The touchscreen is very responsive and easy to use while driving. The customizations available were great and allowed me to select the same colors as my other interior lights to match. Bluetooth works flawlessly although my vehicle has some wind noise at highway speeds that callers can sometimes hear on their end. Bluetooth Streaming is perfect with both my Samsung Epic 4G and HTC Evo 4G. I exclusively use the USB option with a micro usb with 16GB of music and videos on it, which works excellent. I ended up purchasing a backup camera from another merchant that plugged right in. Some quick wiring for the reverse lights and I now have a good backup solution. The wife is now jealous so we'll be purchasing the same unit for her '11 Scion tC. She loves the customization options and is planning to have it be pink. I'd highly recommend this unit for the serious music and car lover.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This stereo is in a word: AWESOME. With respect to value, sound, ease of use, coolness and quality I gave 5 stars. However you'll notice I gave 4 stars overall, which I will explain in a moment. I bought this stereo because I wanted Bluetooth, HD radio, DVD capable with reverse camera input. This stereo has all of that and more. It also offers XM and navigation capability (modules sold separately). I opted for the XM module made by Pioneer and everything plugged in and fitted nicely together. I was especially impressed with the overall build quality. The XM module is very thin and is much smaller than how it appears in photos. The metal casing is top quality all the way. No cheap plugs or cables either....just quality made parts all the way around on both the stereo and XM module. This stereo replaced the factory unit in my '06 Toyota Tundra. I specifically wanted a Double-Din sized stereo with all the features mentioned above, but one thing I specifically did not want was a motorized flip-up screen like those found on many other stereos. All in all my list of requirements is pretty long, but this stereo met every requirement. The sound quality is very impressive on all sources, FM, AM, XM, DVD and HD. I was simply amazed at the crisp and clear sound of HD. I immediately noticed the difference between HD and non HD radio quality. I can hear details in songs that I never knew were there before, even though I've heard the songs before many times before.

Pros: Top quality, excellent value for the money, loaded with features! The sound is frankly among the best I've heard in car stereos costing 3 times as much. Fantastic. Bluetooth is flawless. You can adjust microphone sensitivity and people tell me I sound clear as a bell. Lots of screen saver/wallpaper options, adjustable colors. One nice feature: display dims when headlights are turned on. Overall the quality and appearance looks like a factory OEM stereo. No regrets in buying this unit.

Cons: are a couple minor issues that prevented this unit from receiving a perfect score of 5 stars. 1) No voice dial telephone feature. To place a call, I must dial # using my phone. 2) Electronic nanny is a nuisance. If you do not hook-up (green) parking brake wire certain features cannot be used, period. DVD and telephone keypad can only be used with parking brake on. Owners manual text was way too small for my over 40 eyes, even with glasses on. I did find PDF manual online.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This unit seems okay, I have mixed feelings about crutchfield though that has no bearing on this particular dvd head unit. This being my first ever crutchfield purchase there was some great value knowing that I would. A) Get the proper install kit for this unit. B) get the proper wire harness for this unit C) get detailed instructions on how to install this unit A) The included Metra install trim kit does not fit this dvd head unit very well, there is a gap all the way around it. B) Yes they did send a Ford wire harness, you know the basic of basics that includes speaker connections, power plus ground, and acc. So what's missing? How about the other two harnesses that are on the factory radio? VSS -No, Vehicle Aux port - No, Access to the parking brake - No, Access to the reverse sensors - No. When doing a DVD unit some of these are mandatory. Figuring Crutchfield with all of there research they claim to do and market speak of all the great things they offered would have had this covered if not included in the price of the DVD unit at least as an upgrade option. C) Detailed instructions- well if I wanted to replace my speakers they sent me instructions for those that were very well done. Not for the DVD head unit though. Yes it tells you how to get inside the dash to remove the factory stereo. Whats missing is the required information on tapping into your parking brake. Or how about a wire "tap" product to do it with so you don't have to splice.

Pros: Good price for a nice unit, packed with features.

Cons: My only con's pertain to crutchfield and the hyperbole they have drummed up as a company. First and last purchase with this company. If your going to advertise all these helpful things than include items that pertain to what your installing, instead of the toy that comes in the bottom of the cereal box.

Everything works great except the bluetooth microphone. You have to speak fairly loud for the person on the other end to hear you. I also with the display had something that was more visual while you are maybe the equalizer playing on the screen or a screen saver of sorts. I put a custom background but with all the in song data you can't really see it. All in all like the unit, I'm just picky.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Just installed a AVH-P3400BH in my '06 Nissan Altima SER. The wiring directions left a little to be desired, but the Crutchfield tech reps were AWESOME! They knew the product and my car (even described the inside of the dash and helped me identify a chassis ground). They provided information I wouldn't have had if I bought from Amazon. I also bought the wiring harness and Axxess ASWC. I asked the tech reps about tapping the factory harness for the steering wheel controls and they recommended Posi-taps. They sent me a set for free and tapping was a piece of cake! I'm not an experienced installer - if you are even a little bit handy you can do this. The toughest part for me was reading the small text with my middle aged eyes. Crutchfield also included directions on how to crack open my dash- very nice!

Pros: - Sounds WAY better than factory Bose - Streaming Bluetooth audio - you can skip to next and prev sounds with steering wheel and song information shows on screen. Also streams pandora. - Bluetooth phone - finally won't miss calls or get a ticket when I do hear the phone ring - Navigation via MotionX is like having Nav built-in (with some limitations mentioned above) - DVD player works well (I bought a bypass relay on ebay for $10 - small, easy to install and highly recommended)

Cons: 1) I've been told the bluetooth mic is just "OK" by the 2 people I tested it with. They could clearly hear my cold air intake. Mounted mic by rear view mirror, 2) MotionX requires subscription and doesn't allow you listen to FM. You can trick the radio to listen to pandora with MotionX, but a phone call will royally mess it up. Have to disconnect the start over.

Great product. Has all of the bells and whistles for a ridiculously low price. Still trying to figure out all of the features, but it is pretty intuitive to use. The new integrated bluetooth is the best on the market.

Pros: Price, features, options, functionality. Bluetooth best on market. Great iPhone integration.

Cons: I have struggled a little bit with figuring out all of the features with the iPhone. The integrated Pandora app only works via USB, but you can still remain wireless with the bluetooth, i just found that a bit odd. Also, not sure if you can use Motion X Nav iPhone app with this or not, which would be a bummer considering the Pioneer App radio can do it.

I really enjoy my headunit. It has soooo many options and I really felt that I should have gotten a lot of the accesories because the options still show and I feel left out. Especially going through and playing with certain things, but not being able to use it all like the rearview option for backing up. I think about it everytime I pull into a parking space and can't see behind me.

Pros: I love the options, ease of use, ability to tweak my inputs to my speakers and subs to how I want it depening on if I want to blast someone away or just lower it to get good sound when I'm pulling into the neighborhood and don't want to wake the neighbors.

Cons: Having all the options available, but having to buy more accesories to make it all work. Money, money, money. . .

I'm very happy with this unit. I'd originally ordered one model down (the 2400) bit it was out of stock, so I opted for the 3400. I wasn't sure I'd care about the HD radio, but it is nice and the sound quality on those stations is great. I love the bluetooth hands free, so much better than having to wear a headset. MP3 CD's are great, it displays all the song info and the album art. DVD's also play well, although I won't be using that feature much. The main reason I bough this radio was the Pandora integration. And so far I'm very happy with it. You get all song info and album art on the screen and the sound quality is good. You can easily view and change stations (although you can't add a station, you need to do that via the web). I was glad to cancel my sirius subscription finally, this is a worthy replacement. I have had one recurring problem with the pandora, though. Every couple days, I won't get any audio from pandora. It will show the song info and the run time /remaining time is moving. it's as if it's palying but I'm not hearing it. If I undock/redock the iphone 4, that usually fixes it. I can also switch stations in pandora and that helps, but I would expect this to be more rock solid. I haven't determined if the problem is in the iphone or the pioneer though. my biggest complaint is cosmetic: pioneer placed little white 'pandora' & 'bluetooth' stickers on the BLACK bezel. This looks very tacky & unprofessional. Like an afterthought.

Pros: Pandora rocks! bluetooth hands free, MP3 cd's, iPhone media, TONS of options

Cons: Pandora loses audio sometimes. Pioneer put annoying WHITE 'bluetooth' and 'pandora' stickers on the BLACK bezel. I kind of wish the usb/aux port was on the back, so the iphone cable could be hidden more.

I have a 2011 F-150 XLT and the first thing I did was replace all the speakers with Infinity Reference. This helped the stock sound tremendously but it still was not great. Now that I have installed the AVH-P3400BH it is like night and day. Streams audio from my iPhone just fine. USB flash drives for some reason takes several minutes to read. Even if it was just playing and I step through the sources. Integrated HD receiver is nice. The supplied Metra front facia for the F-150 fit perfectly and looks very nice. Adding the PAC SWI-PS and MS-FRD1 made integration a snap (although I have no use for the Sync system).

    Pros: Built in HD receiver.

Cons: Auto Equalizer and Pioneer mic is a lousy gimmick, does not work! Nanny interlocks prevents a few functions from working but easy enough to over-ride. Reading a USB flash drive takes several minutes EVERY time you switch to it as a source.

Lots of good features that interact well with the iphone 4s. I have used it with Pandora , netflix, and some testing it with the motionX iphone navigation app. The phone sound isn't great at times sounds like the caller is in the bathroom. Everyone on the other end says the call is clear from their perspective. Some games such as MetalStorm display on the radio, in this case the iphone displays a cockpit and radio shows the flying - cool stuff. The HD radio seems to work well, although I don't use it much I mostly use pandora. You can use pandora with or without the USB cable, but you don't get the controls when using it through bluetooth. Installed great in my Scion TC, radio door still closes without altering the factory brackets .

Pros: Interaction with the iphone is great .

Cons: No way to interface verbally with your iphone. My previous radio would allow me to use voice commands such as "call home." IN order to call someone now you must click at least 4 times on the radio. I have noticed sometimes the sound does not work when using the iphone , you have to unplug the cable and plug it back in. This does not happen with bluetooth. Screen could have better resolution, although its on par with other radio's in the same class.

This is a good stereo but a little on the pricey side. Should run closer to $350, and probably will in the next couple of months once it's more available on the market. The stereo looks good, sounds good, and is responsive to the touch. It gets good reception of am and fm stations. The bluetooth sync'd up without a hitch on my android phone, downloaded the address book, and plays pandora. I still find touch screens a bit clunky. This was installed in a 2011 wrx, and I used the Axxess ASWC to keep the steering wheel controls. The button clicks on the steering wheel are VERY fast, I'd say no delay.

    Pros: Sounds good, looks good.

Cons: The interface is a little clunky and some things are NOT intuitive. For example, try saving a radio station without reading the manual :p

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this receiver to replace my stock cd player in my 2011 Subaru Outback. The only downside to it that is more just personal preference is that the black finish is shiny. It looked to be more of a flat black in the pictures which is what I was hoping for, but it's shiny. That being said, that is the ONLY thing I don't like about it. I have had head units from Alpine, Sony, and Pioneer and this is my favorite to date. I originally ordered the Pioneer AVH-P1400DVD but it was back ordered. Wanting my new toy sooner than later I changed my order to this model. I wasn't sure about HD radio and BT being worth the extra $100 but I am glad I upgraded. I had never heard HD radio until now. It is night and day difference listening to HD vs analog. The Bluetooth is a nice feature that allows you to play music from you bluetooth phone, etc. I found that using BT with my iPhone doesn't allow full control over your music library. You can play, pause and skip tracks but you cannot control albums, artists, etc. So I will only use the BT for phone calls. I chose to use the USB cable with my iPod instead which allows full control over all of your music and also shows cover art. DVD portion works great and picture is very clear. Even with Crutchfield tech support I could not get the Axxess steering wheel module to work. Apparently there are too many variations of my vehicle and they do not have the proper documentation yet. Fortunately the remote is well laid out.

Pros: Clean sound and nice sound contol, Full iPod control with USB cable (having to use cable for full control is a con), DVD clarity, low price

Cons: Having to use USB cable for full iPod control. Yes Bluetooth works for music but I like more functionality than it offers.

Had been looking at all the different options for over a month, so I was pretty excited when Crutchfield got the new Pioneer stuff in stock a little sooner than I expected. I bought this receiver and four 6.5" Pioneer 3-way speakers to swap out the factory system in my 2011 Colorado (Z71 Extended Cab). The difference is AMAZING!. The sound is fantastic, and the receiver is nothing short of awesome. Synced with my Android phone through the Bluetooth link and now it will stream music wirelessly from my phone! It also synced my contact list and call log. The touch screen is very cool and the design interface is pretty intuitive. Much easier to control my Ipod, too. Still figuring out all the features, and I'm already impressed.

Pros: New, up-to-date technology, bluetooth, pandora, Ipod control, HD Radio, incredible sound quality, touch screen, customizable display.

Cons: None that I have found yet.

I bought this AVH-P3400BH the day Crutchfiled got it in stock, and I must say, after installing it, Pioneer definitely has got a real winner with this one. The HD radio locks on to a station and never drops out, unlike the Clarion VZ 401, Pioneer has got a great reputation for tuners and this one is right on the mark. Also, the Bluetooth is teriffic, especially with support for AVRCP 1.3, when used with the iPhone 4S, it displays the Metadata (song name, artist info) on the touch screen when used with apps like Pandora, Tune-In radio. This is the best car stereo I have owned, thanks Pioneer

What a great stereo!! I bought this unit to replace a Rockford Fosgate factory system in a 2002 Xterra. A bit of confusion as to what interface cable to buy, since Crutchfield neglected to include one with my purchase... (however, they did mail me the cable later on...would have been very nice if it came in the box with the stereo, but at least they made up for it). In any case, once I had the right one, it was a snap to connect up and solder the harness together. The Rockford Fosgate system came with an amp, and I was able to use it along with my new AVH-P3400. Once it was all hooked up, man, did it sound great!! I thought the factory system sounded nice, but this thing blew it out of the water!! So nice having all the different inputs too. I added the XM radio to it, but in all honesty the Pandora app sounds fantastic, and what a vast selection of music!! Crystal clear sound, and the nice thing is that it will pick up my iPhone on Bluetooth, so I don't even need to plug it in. Bottom line is it is a great upgrade in the sound system and I couldn't be more pleased with it.

Pros: Sound, ease of hook-up, several inputs.

Rear View Camera: The AVH-P3400BH is equipped with a composite video Rear View Camera input. The unit features a function that automatically switches to the rear camera image (Rear View Camera input jack) when an optional rear camera (130NDBC5, sold separately) is installed. When the transmission is in reverse, the screen automatically switches to the rear view camera (the violet/white wire in the AVH-P3400BH's harness must be connected to the vehicle's reverse lamp circuit for automatic video switching). Automatic video switching takes approximately 1.7 seconds. Pioneer recommends using a camera with a mirror image (reversed) output. Audio from your music source will continue playing, while the back-up camera is displayed.

Navigation Ready: Easily upgrade to navigation with the addition of the Pioneer AVIC-U220 add-on navigation system (130AVIC220, sold separately). This versatile hideaway unit allows you to switch to navigation mode with the touch of a button. Get to your destination by inputting an address or search through the POI library while enjoying whatever source is currently playing

    Remote Control

Wireless Remote Control: The Pioneer AVH-P3400BH includes an IR remote control (CXE5116) for wireless operation of the multimedia head unit and your connected devices.

Steering Wheel Remote Compatibility: The head unit features an OEM steering wheel remote control input on the rear of the unit that lets you keep your vehicle's factory radio steering wheel remote controls when used with an optional steering wheel audio control adapter (sold separately).
