    lucky exchange

Roy from Littleton, NC on 10/13/2013

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

First bought 7500 unit to replace factory radio in 07 Lincoln Town car. Did not like the fact that in put for I-pod was on the back of the unit. I move the I-pod from car to truck and to the gym. Did not want cord hanging out of dash somewhere. When I called tech. support he recommended the 6300 instead.(By the way Crutchfield can't be beat for their free shipping and no hassle to exchange) When I received the unit it appeared to have been used somewhere before. A call to support and said would replace with new 6300. Turned out no more to be had. I moved my old 5200 from my truck to the Lincoln and installed 6300 in my truck(I use the truck more) Both units appear identical so it is great to not have to adjust to different unit when I go from car to truck. Functions and features are great on both units. Some comments that cell phone microphone is scratchy but others say sound is perfect. Probably cell phone problem not unit. Units are completely flush with dash in both vehicles. Look factory. Tight fit in Lincoln but just required some patience to route wires. Pioneer makes quality gear. I've owned the 5200 since 2010 and have had no problems. Expect the same from the 6300.

Pros: Features, ease of set up, coolness.

Cons: None but would like to see an outside temperature gauge in the unit. Would be a really cool and useful feature.

    Good overall stereo

Got this unit on a scratch and dent special. Great deal, unit was shipped with the wrong wiring harness, but crutchfield rectified the problem immediately. Sound great, and easy to use very happy.

    Pros: look and sounds great

    Cons: none so far

    Great Head Unit!

JohnP from Washington, IL on 6/10/2013

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Replaced the stock head unit in my 2012 Dodge Challenger RT. Fits perfectly. Easy to install, features are great. Works well with my iPhone 4s, and I use the SD card for additional music in case I dont want to plug in my iPhone. Pandora feature is awesome! With the additional harness recommended by my Crutchfield advisor, the steering wheel controls still work! One caveat - if you have a factory installed amplifier, dont miss the sentence in the installation instructions telling you to hook up the front output of the head unit to the rear speakers on the harness. It is the only way you will still hear your bluetooth phone through the car audio. You WILL lose the ability to fade front to rear, as the amplifier handles this feature.

Pros: Touch screen is intuitve and easy to use. Great colors, and fit and finish is good overall.

Cons: The removable face plate is all plastic, and doesnt seem very sturdy. I worry about removing it and breaking it. Also, the motorized display is a bit noisy and seems a bit cheaply made for the unit.

    Spacing between MP3 Mixes

    Lindy from FL on 5/26/2013

How do I set the stereo to skip the spacing between MP3 mixes. There is a 3-5 second pause between MP2 none stop mixes when playing. Play them on another regular pioneer BT deck and there is not pause or silence when the tracks are changing over.

    Pros: Great sound

    Cons: spacing between mixes

Pros: Incredible features and options! Easy to use with touch screen.

Cons: Only one is that I have a single DIN slot on my car but this product takes care of that issue perfectly!

Great head unit. I've had it for about 2 weeks now and love everything about it. Sound quality is astonishing and you have complete control over every aspect of it. Plan to add nav soon (also pricey). All in all very pleased as it's the best deck I've ever owned.

Pretty cool receiver. Looking forward to learning how to use the many features. It sounds a lot better than the factory stereo.

Pros: Good sound, good picture, plays music from pandora and iPod

Cons: Stupid parking brake wire, only enables video while parking brake is set. Complicated operation for all the features. Can't figure out how to play "top rated" playlist on iPod

The good, the bad & the ugly

Alan B. from Spfld, MA on 9/16/2012

THE GOOD: By far, the best sound quality I've gotten out of a head unit. I've tried many different brands and have to say that good sound, costs good money. I'm using this head unit through factory Bose amp and speaker setup and it made the speakers sound like they were upgraded. The iPhone/Pod control is superior to other brands, allowing full search and selection of albums, playlists, etc. THE BAD: The AppRadio function is close to worthless. I guess this is the 1st generation and it doesn't work near as good as they make it sound. First, it only allows for display of the App (when it works). App control is only with the newer AppRadios. You can NOT use IPhone maps, so you have to download NavMii or similar to have Nav without the pricey add on (seriously, why is Nav add on that much?). THE UGLY: The face of this stereo sticks out so far it embarrasses me to have it in my car, it looks completely out of place. With the display open, it is ok, as it draws attention away from how far it sticks out. Also, you have to plug your iPhone cable in on the face (also an add-on). The cable is clunky and looks terrible hanging off the front. Even my 8-year old AVIC-N3 setup at least gave me a rear connection that I could run to my armrest and keep hidden.

Pros: - Sound quality - iPod controls

Cons: - Poor AppRadio support - Appearance when display closed - Front hookup only for iPhone/Pod - Too expensive to not come with NAV built in

    1999 Chevrolet Suburban
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great product. This replaces a Valor 703W which cost more but was of lower quality (broke too soon through no fault of the operator). I found the quality difference as soon as I powered it up. My speakers never sounded so good! I'm eager to connect my bluetooth phone and see how that works. [Aside: The Valor produced an echo in hands-free phone mode and sounded terrible (unusable).] But the rest of the Pioneer features (including iPod) work up to or exceed my expectations. I recommend this product to anyone else. The $700 is a competitive price for the unit, but I hate shelling out that kind of money for a vehicle entertainment system. I did have to call support for a "senior moment" I had. That support gets 10 stars. The tech who answered seemed to know my product in and out with putting me on hold or even taking time to read some knowledge-base info, seemingly. I think how they do it is by associating my cell number with my order, and so when I rang, the number matched my invoice and routed me to the tech who was skilled in the product I bought -- all before anyone answered the phone! That's high-tech at its best. Anyway, the tech solved both my questions in a minute or two, but then I disconnected when I dropped my phone and didn't get to thank him for his expert service.

Pros: Lots of features and inputs for a variety of music sources.

Cons: I wish it had a secondary display that showed basic info while the main screen was in the closed position.

    simply awesome

    Great Unit

RonS from Bozeman, Montana on 1/1/2012

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I had a Jensen that was giving me fits and was sent back twice for repair. When it still didn't work I started shopping around. The Pioneer was spendy, but so worth it. Having inputs in the front makes connecting an ipod simple and the on screen menu allows for quick switching between features. This is the fourth DVD player I've owned (two Alpines in other vehicles) and this is by far the best unit.

Pros: Easy of operation even with all the function options. The touchscreen makes all the difference

Cons: Changing the tilt angle and the owner's manual.

The resolution of the display is 480 x 240 x RGB, for a total of 345,600 pixels. The touchscreen display features a anti-glare coating, so you can see it any time of day or night. The touchscreen display allows you to control this unit and a paired Bluetooth device, or a connected component such as an iPod/iPhone, Satellite radio receiver, HD Radio tuner, or USB Flash memory. Menus appear on screen for making function choices, audio adjustments, and setting up the system.

Adjustable Angle: You can adjust the angle of the motorized-retractable 7" monitor from 50- to 110-degrees to suit your viewing preference. You can also adjust the LCD panel slide position, so that the panel is set back or forward. The LCD panel will automatically be adjusted to the same angle & position the next time the LCD panel is opened.

Auto Open/Close: When this feature is active, the display automatically opens when the unit is turned on and closes when the unit is turned off.

Audio Only: You can listen to audio from a CD, SD-card, USB device, or iPod/iPhone without retracting the monitor. However, there will be no display of song information, since the unit doesn't offer a secondary display.

Multilingual Display: The Pioneer AVH-P6300BT offers English, French, Portuguese, and Spanish text.

Video Adjustments: You can store numerous video settings for each source and the optional rear view camera; including brightness (adjusts the black intensity), contrast (adjusts contrast) color (adjusts color saturation), hue (adjusts the tone of color), temperature (adjust the color temperature), RGB (adjusts phase shifting), and black level (emphasizes dark portions of images).

Widescreen Modes: You can choose from the following widescreen modes when playing back video:

    • Full: A 4:3 picture is enlarged in the horizontal direction only, enabling you to enjoy a 4:3 picture without any omissions.
    • Just: The picture is enlarged slightly at the center and the amount of enlargement increases horizontally toward the ends of the picture.
    • Zoom: A 4:3 picture is enlarged in the same proportion both vertically and horizontally; ideal for a 16:9 screen.
    • Cinema: A picture is enlarged by the same proportion as Full or Zoom in the horizontal direction and by an intermediate proportion between Full and Zoom in the vertical direction.
    • Normal: A 4:3 picture is displayed as it is.

On Screen Display Color And Background Adjustment: The color of the on-screen display can be set to red, amber, green, blue or white. The background can be set to one of four preset still images, one of three preset movie images, a stored JPEG image, a video image from the external input, the clock, or turned Off.

Front-Panel Controls With Adjustable Illumination: In addition to the touchscreen controls, the unit includes frequently used buttons along the unit's lower front-panel. The color of the button illumination can be set to red, amber, green, blue, white, or scan (constantly cycling through the color spectrum). You can also create a custom color using the unit's on-screen menu.

Detachable Control Panel: Part of the unit's control-panel detaches, so you can take it with you when leave your vehicle to help prevent against theft. If the front-panel is not detached from the head unit within four seconds of turning off the ignition, a warning tone sounds, to remind you.

Note: No face case is included with this unit. An optional soft face case (142DFC1X, sold separately) can be purchased for this unit.

Dimmer: To prevent the display from being too bright at night, the display is automatically dimmed when the car's headlights are turned on. You can turn the dimmer on or off. The automatic dimmer function only works when the orange/white illumination wire in the wiring harness is connected to the vehicle's headlight circuit.

Parking Brake Interlock: This unit has a parking brake interlock system that prohibits viewing of video programming and operating certain controls when the vehicle is in motion. In order to watch video on the in-dash monitor, the vehicle must be parked with the parking brake engaged.

    Audio Section

24-Bit/96kHz DAC: For superb quality audio playback from DVDs, CDs, and flash media, the Pioneer AVH-P6300BT is equipped with a 24-bit/96kHz digital-to-analog converter.

MOSFET50 Internal Amplifier: This receiver is equipped with a 50 watts x 4 (peak) MOSFET amplifier for low distortion, high power output. The amplifier is strong enough to power small subwoofers to moderate volume levels in compact cars and pickups. For higher volume levels from subwoofers, an optional amplifier may be connected to the preamp outputs.

CEA2006 Compliant: The power specifications for the AVH-P6300BT are compliant with the CEA2006 Mobile Amplifier Power Testing and Measurement standards from the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA). These standards were developed as a way to equitably compare power specs from model to model and between manufacturers. The power output specs are as follows:

    • CEA2006 Specs: 14 watts RMS x 4 channels (at 4 ohms, 20Hz-20kHz, 1% THD-N)
    • Continuous Power Output: 22 watts RMS x 4 channels (at 4 ohms, 50Hz-15kHz, 5% THD)
    • Maximum Power Output: 50 watts x 4 channels (or 50 watts x 2 channels at 4 ohms + 70 watts x 1 channel at 2 ohms for subwoofer)

EEQ (Easy EQ): There are seven stored equalizer curves which you can easily recall at any time. You can choose from - Powerful, Natural, Vocal, Super Bass, Flat, Custom 1, or Custom 2.

8-Band Graphic EQ: The Custom 1 and Custom 2 EQ modes allow you to manually adjust the level (+/- 12dB) of each band of the head unit's 8-band graphic equalizer (40Hz, 80Hz, 200Hz, 400Hz, 1kHz, 2.5kHz, 8kHz, and10kHz).

Auto EQ (Optional): The auto-equalizer automatically measures your car's interior acoustic characteristics, and then creates an auto-equalizer curve base on that information. The Pioneer CD-MC20 Auto-EQ microphone (130CDMC20, sold separately) is required to use this function. The Pioneer CD-MC20 Auto-EQ microphone plugs into your compatible Pioneer A/V receiver's front-panel 3.5mm input. The Auto-EQ microphone should be placed in the center of your vehicle's driver seat headrest facing forward for EQ measurement.

Sonic Center Control: Sound that is suited for the listening position can easily be created with this function. You can adjust sound more toward the listening position left (7) to right (7).

Loudness: The Loudness function compensates for deficiencies in the low- and high-frequency ranges at low volume. You can set the Loudness to High, Mid, Low, or Off.

Bass Boost: You can easily boost the subwoofer bass level by using the Bass Boost function. The Bass Boost feature allows you increase the subwoofer level from 0 to +6.

Advanced Sound Retriever: The Advanced Sound Retriever automatically enhances compressed audio and restores the original richness of the recording. When the Advanced Sound Retriever is on, the high frequency range is compensated to match the frequency response curve to the original sound. There are two available levels of the Advanced Sound Retriever effect.

Source Level Adjustment (SLA): This function lets you adjust the volume level of each source to prevent radical changes in volume when switching between sources. Settings are based on the volume level of the FM tuner, which remains unchanged. Each source can be independently adjusted from -4 dB to +4 dB.

Three 4-Volt Preamp Outputs: The Pioneer AVH-P6300BT is equipped with three 4-Volt preamp outputs (Front/Rear/Subwoofer). The front and rear speakers are fading with high-pass crossover filters, while the subwoofer output is non-fading with a low-pass crossover filter.

    • Front and Rear Preamp Outputs: If you do not want low frequency sounds to play from the front or rear speaker preamp outputs (or speaker outputs), you can turn on the 12dB/octave High Pass Filter. The HPF has a selectable cutoff frequency (50, 63, 80, 100, or 125 Hz). Only frequencies higher than those in the selected range are output through the speakers.
    • Subwoofer Output: The unit has a pair of dedicated non-fading RCA subwoofer outputs with a low-pass filter, phase adjustment, and output level. When the subwoofer output is turned on, you can select the frequency of the 18dB/octave low pass filter (50, 63, 80, 100, or 125 Hz), select the subwoofer phase (normal/reverse), and the subwoofer gain (+6 to -24).

Rear Channel Speaker Output: You can choose to use the rear channel output (speaker and preout) for full-range speaker or subwoofer. If you select "subwoofer", you can connect a 4-ohm subwoofer directly to each rear speaker lead, or a 2-ohm subwoofer to one of the rear speaker leads, without using an external amplifier.

Telephone Mute/Attenuator: Sound from your system is muted or attenuated automatically when a phone signal is received when you have hardwired your mobile phone system to the mute wire (yellow/black) of this unit.

    Radio Functions

Supertuner IIID AM/FM Tuner: The Supertuner IIID features Feed Forward Control, which avoids multi-path interference. This pre-detection of interference enables quick filter control and results in less distortion. In addition, the Supertuner IIID creates enhanced stereo during multi-path interference, unlike conventional tuners that collapse to mono. Digital processing reduces distortion, and improves Signal-to-Noise Ratio and stereo separation. Advanced analog technology improves signal processing sensitivity.
